Michael’s character design in part III is very unpopular but it actually makes sense when seeing pictures of Charlie Luciano. I don’t know if this was FFC’s intention, but Michael and Charlie at the end of their days are pretty similar. I mean Michael’s fashion in PIII is essentially Charlie’s.

Charlie lived out his days in Italy with his little dogs like Michael. Charlie also fell over dead of a massive heart attack like Michael. It’s interesting because Vito definitely mirrors Charlie in that Vito established the Five Families of NY like Charlie did IRL. And of course Roth is modeled after Meyer Lansky.

This is all just a theory, FFC has never said anything about this but it makes Michael’s controversial style in Part III make more sense and it makes this kind of cool full circle thing with Vito and Michael both representing the father of the modern day Sicilian American mafia in the beginning of his career and the end of his life.

In the original TGF III script Kay and Michael make love in the same bed Michael and Apollonia had sex in xD. Now, I’m glad it was removed because Kay was a married woman and she definitely wasn’t a cheater, but I wouldn’t mind it if she had been single, it could have been interesting… In any case, the draft looks so much better than the final product (except for the ending and Al Neri betraying Michael for choosing Vincent over him as his successor), it’s a shame many of its great moments were modified or scrapped.
