A compelling series about how direct guidance from Spirit created The Spiritual Science Foundation in Spain.
By Robin P Foy
November 1998. The month when our world fell apart!
That is exactly how it felt when the unique, pioneering 'Scole Experiment' ended quite suddenly and unexpectedly after 5 years of the most amazing Physical Mediumship phenomena that we had ever witnessed in our 25 years of intimate and sustained involvement in this field.
Can you imagine exactly what it feels like to lose your entire family; suddenly, and without prior warning? That is exactly what losing our wonderful Spirit Team felt like!
Coming Soon: The Scole Movie
Tumblr media
The 'Scole Experiment' has since become quite famous for its pioneering role – and the role of our beloved Spirit Team – in introducing a new way of producing physical phenomena to mainstream Psychic Research. So much so, that a big-screen Scole Movie is planned about our historic project, based on the book The Scole Experiment by authors Grant and Jane Solomon.
The mind-blowing, often unique phenomena that we witnessed over more than 1,000 hours of sitting during the experimental Scole years was produced by using only a mix of 3 different types of energy dubbed 'Creative Energy' by our Spirit Team. This method has since been named and recognized as Energy-Based phenomena, as opposed to the more traditional Ectoplasm-based phenomena that was practiced widely over the previous 150 years of Physical Mediumship. Energy-based phenomena is now becoming increasingly popular with groups who set out to develop physical mediumship and its stunning objective results.
In the 'stunned' months immediately following the final sittings of the 'Scole Experiment', all four of us Scole Group members presented public seminars for interested people and researchers which set out the hard work and achievements of our Scole Spirit Team.
From the video footage taken during the live sessions at Scole, Alan Bennett edited together a superb compilation of some of our phenomena, together with animated images of ET beings that visited us during the Experiment – leaving pictures of themselves behind for us to see. There were also a number of pictures of the Spirit World itself – including animated trees and fields, plus pyramids similar to those in ancient Egypt. None of these videos and still images had previously been released to the public.
It was during the first of these seminars that we met the authors Grant and Jane Solomon, who had never sat with us – but were still so taken by the Scole results. Their enthusiasm compelled them to write a book about us entitled 'The Scole Experiment', which became a bestseller. It was Grant and Jane who coined the phrase 'The Scole Experiment' and the title has since stuck.
Such was the interest in the 'Scole Experiment' that in the two years following its demise, many different people and groups from all over the world arrived on our Scole doorstep uninvited, expecting to interview us and be entertained. Despite a large number of rubberneckers, however, many really were serious experimenters and researchers themselves.
We also received numerous offers from several either amateur or quasi professional film makers and documentary makers to take part in their proposed films and documentaries. No payment was ever offered for our services or cooperation in their projects. Most simply wanted to make a name for themselves by getting involved in reporting the special and unique Scole results from their own angle.
'The Afterlife Investigations'
Tumblr media
We turned the majority of these potential documentary projects down on the spot as few seemed genuine and none offered our own editorial freedom. However, we decided to jointly cooperate in the making of Tim Coleman and Dan Drasin's Documentary 'The Afterlife Investigations' about Scole.
This film was completed by Tim Coleman and has since proved to be a major informational documentary, showcasing amazing evidence of the afterlife which we gathered during our five-year experiment.
The Afterlife Investigations has been seen by millions of people over the years, and played an instrumental role in changing the views of many people who were previously committed skeptics!
I was asked to take part in radio and TV interviews, which I happily did (without any payment). There were also invitations for me to lecture on Scole in Columbus, Ohio, in the USA (which I did on two separate occasions), and another in Budapest, Hungary, which I also did. I appeared at a number of psychic seminars by invitation. There were articles in the 'Sunday Times Supplement'; the EDP (Eastern Daily Press) magazine; plus a special Japanese magazine that reported our Scole results and published some of our photos received during sittings via the 'psychic photography department' of our Spirit Team.
Uninvited Guests of a Different Kind
One of the very first uninvited visitors after our Experiments had finished, was a dentist from Israel – Doctor Adrian Klein – who has since become a very good friend. On another occasion, a party of eight people arrived one afternoon from Italy. This party included Marcello Bacci (the famous Direct Radio Voice medium) and his wife Marina, together with their friends Emanuel Toriello; Alex Zampieri, with Italian Lawyer Amerigo Festa and their three wives.
Whilst enjoying a drink with this group at the Scole Inn, and in full light, I witnessed the unexpected arrival of a few apported glass trinkets – one of which actually arrived in my own pocket without any of the Italian group touching me!
This meeting resulted in our being invited to Marcello Bacci's laboratory at Grosseto in Italy (three times in all) to experience Bacci's impressive Direct Radio Voice phenomena.
As a result of this invitation, and after our initial visit to Italy, two of the party who had visited us at Scole – Emanuel and Alex – became good friends. They worked in the UK for a so that they could join us in starting a new group at Scole, some 18 months after our original Experiment finished in 1998.
Just The Two Of Us
Tumblr media
After a few months with our two new sitters, it was obvious that the new group was not going to be successful – but the experience did reawaken our passion for sitting. Although the circle with the Italians did not work out, we went back to the drawing board and started sitting all over again – just Sandra and I.
First of all, we simply sat together on a weekly basis. Very little happened during these sittings until we invited our daughter and grandson to join us. On the few occasions we sat with them in the cellar at Scole, we noticed some reoccurring phenomena.
For example, a ping-pong ball 'scooted around' rapidly in a Pyrex bowl on our central table each time they joined us. This got our attention! Although our daughter and grandson were unable to sit with us regularly in the experiments, these early results did give us the motivation to continue.
Then we started to look for other circle members to join us on a regular basis. Up until 2006, we tried all sorts of different combinations of sitters in our new group. Once again, though, most of these produced very little in the way of results. We also started to have private readings with a number of professional mediums to see if we could get any clues from Spirit as to what they wanted us to do.
Finally, at a local spiritual centre near Diss, we came across an evidential deep trance medium called Les Driver. Both of us had short sittings with him and Les was able to put us in touch with some of the Spirit Team we had known at Scole in an evidential way.
This led us to believe that Spirit still had a job for us to do – and that the timing had to be right for us to once again develop some excellent phenomena. It also caused us to visit Les a second time (around 2002) for a private sitting in his home at Worksop in Nottinghamshire.
More accurate revelations came from this joint sitting and it became obvious that we did need to once again start sitting seriously, and that there was already a Spirit Team in place to monitor our efforts and help with the new centre development.
Les had himself given a large part of this private sitting in deep trance and soon afterwards, was able to work as an electrician close to Scole and combine that with a weekly sitting with the two of us. This continued for several months. Although we got lots of encouragement from Spirit via Les's deep trance, the eagerly sought phenomena just did not happen again at that time, and Sandra and I went back to simply sitting together for a while.
DelaWarr Camera Experiments
Shortly afterwards, we were contacted by Peter Moscow – the then President of the American Psychotronics Association and one of the founders of the Electronic Medicine Association in the UK. Peter had a holistic healing clinic in St Louis, Kentucky and was extremely knowledgeable in the field of radionics, and especially electronic radionic gadgets that he used, many of which were to his own specification. Peter was also a member of the Delawarr Society of Radionics.
Seeing that we had enjoyed such good physical mediumship and phenomena during the 'Scole Experiment', Peter was anxious to discover if we were able to get any positive results with his DelaWarr Camera. As far as we knew, there were only two original DelaWarr Cameras left in existence.
It was a very large piece of equipment that did not, in any way, resemble an actual camera. It worked on 'radionic' psychic principles, some of which go hand-in-hand with physical phenomena.
The De La Warrs made many radionics experiments with the De La Warr Radionic Camera in particular. A few amazing experiments the De La Warrs carried out included one in which they produced a photograph of a three-month-old fetus from the blood sample of a pregnant woman, with the lady being over 50 miles away at the time.
Another example involved taking a picture of a patient’s brain from a blood sample, which showed a tumour. An autopsy after the patient’s death showed a tumour in the exact place on the brain that was depicted in the photograph.
In 1950, George De La Warr took a photograph using a drop of his own blood and a drop of his wife Marjorie's blood while holding the thought in his mind of their wedding day in 1929. The photo they received showed two human-like figures standing side by side, although not clearly identifiable as George and Marjorie.
From 2003 to 2006, and between our weekly sittings for the development of physical phenomena, we started to experiment with the De La Warr Camera that Peter had lent us. Surprisingly, although our sessions with the camera were a bit hit and miss, we did start to get some very good psychic pictures and photographic images when we used the camera, so there was definite development taking place.
Our results, however, were never up to the standard of the photographs obtained when the De La Warrs were using and experimenting with their camera. The camera was returned to a scientific researcher designated by Peter before we left Scole.
We considered the possibility of retiring abroad, but could not agree on which country would suit us best. So, for a few years, we travelled to France, Cyprus and Majorca to seriously look at suitable retirement properties. France came out as favorite initially, but we thought that such a move might involve us in too much red tape, and dropped the idea for a while.
It was in early 2004 that Sandra began to receive crystal clear clairvoyant and clairaudient messages again. Whilst she sat quietly during her night-shift job in a Diss electronics factory, she kept getting a recurring message which constantly told her to 'move to Spain'.
In Part 2, Robin and Sandra Foy embark on the unknown road to Spain.

Trump surveys devastation, pays respects to tornado victims
BEAUREGARD, Ala. — Standing near the slab that’s all that is left of one family’s garage, President Donald Trump on Friday surveyed the devastation wrought by a powerful tornado that ripped through a rural Alabama town, uprooting trees, tearing homes from their foundations and killing nearly two dozen people.
“We saw things that you wouldn’t believe,” said Trump, overlooking a debris field strewn with branches and other wreckage in Beauregard, which bore the brunt of Sunday’s storm. Mangled metal siding, wood planks, piping and electric wires lay strewn on the ground, along with remnants of everyday life: clothing, a sofa, a bottle of Lysol cleaner and a welcome mat encrusted with dirt.
Trump and the first lady spent the afternoon meeting with survivors, victims’ families and volunteers trying to rebuild after the massive tornado carved a path of destruction nearly a mile wide, killing 23 people, including four children and a couple in their 80s, with ten victims belonging to a single extended family.
The trip was a familiar one for Trump, who, now in the third year of his presidency, has traveled to the sites of numerous disasters and tragedies, including hurricanes, shootings and wildfires.
The day began with an aerial survey of the area by helicopter, which flew over swaths of land where trees had been flattened. Trump and his wife, Melania, also visited a church serving as a makeshift disaster relief center for survivors. He later observed a moment of silence before white wooden crosses commemorating each of the victims.
Head bowed, Trump and his wife held hands as they paused in front of each of the markers. Trump shook his head as he stood in front of one, which had been decorated with a tiny pair of children’s sneakers.
Trump has, at times, struggled with his role as consoler-in-chief during trips to survey damage and meet with tragedy victims. He memorably tossed paper towels into a crowd as he surveyed damage following hurricanes in Puerto Rico — a move that some saw as inappropriate given the circumstances — and marveled at a yacht that floodwaters had deposited on a family’s property during a trip to the Carolinas.
“At least you got a nice boat out of the deal,” Trump told the family. He was caught on camera telling a person to whom he had just handed food to “have a good time.”
This time, however, Trump appeared to avoid any such distractions aside from some hubbub caused by his decision to sign Bibles, which Providence Baptist Church had been distributing, along with clothing and other supplies, including diapers, toiletries and personal care products.
Before signing autographs or posing for photos with the volunteers there, Trump thanked law enforcement officials and other first responders, as well as Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen, who oversees the Federal Emergency Management Agency, which is assisting state and local response efforts.
“I wanted to come the day it happened,” he said, adding that Gov. Kay Ivey had asked him to wait.
Before leaving the church, Trump posed for a photograph with a fifth-grade volunteer and signed the child’s Bible, said Ada Ingram, a local volunteer. Ingram said the president also signed her sister’s Bible.
The pastor, Rusty Sowell, said the president’s visit was uplifting and will help bring attention to a community that will need a long time to recover.
“This is a marathon, not a sprint,” Sowell said.
Earlier, Trump spent time with three families who lost loved ones, hearing their stories and dispensing hugs. He also met privately with survivors and family members, including a woman mourning the loss of 10 relatives.
“What they’ve been through is incredible,” Trump said after emerging from the meeting.
Before Trump arrived in Beauregard, Renee Frazier stood amid bricks and lumber that used to be her mother’s home and waved as the helicopter carrying Trump passed overhead. Minutes before, Frazier, whose mother survived the tornado, had been arguing with relatives who opposed Trump’s visit, calling it more about politics than compassion.
Frazier disagreed.
“I want the president here to see what happened to my mom’s house,” she said. “I want him right here on this land because my mom is about love and unity.”
Down the road, where several people died, Trump supporter Bobby Spann said he hoped the president had learned “how to be a Southerner and how to respect people” during his brief visit.
Spann said he also hoped Trump realized how much help is needed.
“Houses need to be replaced. You can’t help the dead folks, but you can try to help the ones that’s still living,” said Spann, chewing on a yellowroot twig. The tornado had partially peeled away the roof of Spann’s mobile home.
Trump had said before the visit that he’d instructed FEMA to give Alabama “the A Plus treatment” as it recovers — rhetoric that stood in contrast to Trump’s response to disasters on less politically friendly territory. Alabama supported Trump by a wide margin in the 2016 presidential election, and he carried about 60 percent of the vote in Lee County, where Beauregard is located. Blue Trump flags flying outside homes are a frequent sight in the town, and many were seen waving Friday.
In the months after wildfires scorched California, a Democrat-led state that voted for Hillary Clinton in 2016, Trump threatened to cut off federal aid unless the state embraced forest management policies he championed.
He also engaged in a sustained back-and-forth with lawmakers from hurricane-whipped Puerto Rico, whose pro-statehood governor identifies as a Democrat. Trump repeatedly blamed the U.S. territory for its problems and noted how much money recovery efforts had cost the federal government.
The administration also considered redirecting disaster aid from those places to pay for Trump’s long-promised border wall but ultimately decided to target other funding sources.

Dorcas Davis (’14): staying nourished for the long journey
Tumblr media
Dorcas Davis (’14) is Co-Founder and National Co-Chair at the March for Racial Justice and National Director of Strategic Projects at The Posse Foundation.
Michael Wilson (’11) grabbed dinner with Dorcas to talk about what drives her, what sustains her, and how she became the leader she is today.
You were just saying this work is your saving grace.
Yeah. I say that because right after the election—literally the day after—I had a workshop to do, with some staff at one of the CUNY libraries. I walked into that space and everybody was shell-shocked. And it took me out of my “oh my God what is happening right now?” Because I had to show up and be present. And it was the best thing I could have done after Trump was elected. Because it was like, okay, it’s not about this moment. Everybody in this room, and myself included, is going to be continuing on. So what do we do? What do I want this journey to look like? How would I craft a journey that other people can join me in on, right? And that just comes up, period, in everything I do. Because it’s not just for myself that I’m doing it.
Where’s the journey headed?
Dorcas: Oh my god, I don’t know! Laughs. I’m hoping that it’s headed toward a place of peace. A place of greater connection, greater love. I know from my journey to this point…it’s been more meandering than linear, you know what I’m saying? And I’m enjoying that: the growth that comes with that. The fear and freedom that comes with not knowing. But also being intentional about the kind of work that I want to do and the kind of life I want to live. And that’s been the constant. So, no matter what task or job that I have, I know it will be serving the type of work that I want to do and the type of life that I want to live.
What’s a story that connects to that kind of intentionality?
A story. Hmm. Last year was the year I did the March for Racial Justice. My skills as a facilitator were needed more than I thought. [faculty member] Helen White does this wonderful exercise in our first year, where she asks us to be clear, or write down what our values are as a facilitator. “What are YOUR values?” I remember doing that exercise. Because I needed to be clear about how I walked into a room, how I show up, what is my intention to create there.
The first night I met a couple of people. I was greeted with a lot of suspicion. And I had to say to myself, in the moment, what reason would they have to trust you? You’re making real assumptions about who you are to these people. So what your goal is, here, is not to recruit them in anything, but to make them feel comfortable with you. That’s it. One lady was looking me up on Facebook while she was talking to me. Laughs. She was like, um, yeah, I’m looking—I was like, yeah, look-up whatever you need to look-up, I will help you. I want you to know who I am and how I’m coming.
One of your values is honoring people.
Honoring people with love. I want anybody who I encounter to feel loved. I want people to feel honored, I want people to feel respected.
So I told some jokes, we had conversation, and that was it. And we had talked about meeting the next day, because Philando Castile ’s mother was going to join us the next day. Through them. And we had planned to talk about the march the next day. After I left them that night, I had no idea how many were going to show up. Because it wasn’t like, “warm welcome,” none of that happened.
And so the next day, everybody was there plus more. With Valerie Castile.
I got shivers up my spine.
The commonality between us all was we had a loved one who was killed or beaten or assaulted in some way by police officers. And it was like, this is the thing that unites our American experience. And this can’t be. This is horrible. And so, after everyone said their goodbyes, and committed to coming to the march, I was like, wow. Okay. I knew it wasn’t just me at work there. Because I said a prayer before I—I said, “God, give me the words I need to say.” I’ve never been in this situation before. So I can’t depend on some prior knowledge.
And so that’s very similar to what happens when I’m in the room [facilitating]. It’s like, I do have activities, and different processing questions, yes, I have all this stuff, but what I have most of all is presence, and being present with the people in that room. So if I see you’re all tensed up, I’m gonna deal with that. I’m gonna deal with the human being, before I get to, “we need to have dialogue.”
Tumblr media
Dorcas in the March for Racial Justice--September 30, 2017. Photo: Coby Owens.
That’s so true about you, Dorcas. That you go for working and responding with what’s really in front of you.
Thank you for that mirror. Because that is a value for me. It’s important for me to see people and have them know that I see them. That has served me. And I think it’s what continues to draw me to do this work. Because I’m usually in a room with people who are feeling conflicted—there’s an issue, and that’s why I’m in the room.
I want to ground the conversation, for our readers. What is the organization you’re working with, and what do you do?
Currently, I am the National Director of Strategic Projects for the Posse Foundation. I do diversity and inclusion workshops and design diversity and inclusion programming for colleges and universities, nonprofit organizations, for-profit enterprises and businesses. Some very big corporations. Some small ones. Even school districts have come to us and said, “we need this.” So what I’m doing is: “well, okay, what is the issue that you have, around diversity and inclusion. What do you want to do?” Because I work with people who have a commitment to diversity and inclusion. I’m not trying to change somebody’s mind and convince them that this is necessary.
There’s an assumption that’s made that people know what the next step is. But we don’t have a history to fall back on of diversity and inclusion in the United States. So, since that’s something that’s not necessarily part of our culture, how can we teach people?
The master’s tools can’t dismantle the master’s house.
Exactly. Exactly. The vision for the United States wasn’t “diversity and inclusion,” no matter what’s written in that constitution. Right? So we have to envision something else. And a lot of my work is helping people envision it. What’s this gonna look like? On a micro level in their organization. And the more people we have invested in the vision of diversity, then the more powerful the macro vision can be. Because people earnestly want to know how—they want to know, “how do we do this? I heard it’s good.”
That makes me feel hopeful…we were talking about this beforehand. You were talking about doing work for the future. Can you give me that again?
We have an obligation to our visions. And the visions that we have are not for ourselves. They’re visions for our children and our grandchildren, and whoever’s coming after us. Just like we live in the vision of our ancestors. Somebody thought about me sitting across from you, freely, before this ever happened. Right? They didn’t live it—I’m living it. Because they thought about me. So, anyone who is interested in doing work around diversity and inclusion and racial justice and social justice, yes, there are immediate concerns, but there’s also the long game.
What would you say to someone who’s thinking about training in applied theatre?
First, I would ask them, what brings them to it? Because I think about my own journey. I was a full-time artist. It was something that wasn’t quite enough for me. I was a teacher too, so I was like, I love that service aspect. I love working with people. And so, when I found applied theatre, I was like, oh my god, it’s everything in one for me. Because I needed to express my artistry and creativity, but I also needed to be of service, in a very tangible, immediate kind of way. And I needed to be in conversation.
I got all of that in applied theatre…and also the lens of a facilitator, which is very different from the lens of a teacher that I’d had.
How are those lenses different?
The job of the facilitator is to make things easier. Make the conversation easier, make the confusion or whatever is happening easier to digest. That switch happened for me in Rwanda. Because I was “teaching the class,” air quotes... And I noticed that three or four people were consistently talking, in a room of about 25 people. I was like, this is interesting…but then I realized they were speaking in English, for me. For my benefit. And that was silencing the room, because only a few people felt comfortable enough to speak in English, out like that, with me in the room. Even though those students speak about four or five languages. So here I am with my mono-lingual self, dominating the conversation, unintentionally, because they’re trying to be polite and include me in. And that’s when I was like, ooookay. I’m not making this easier. Laughs. I’m making this harder. So I looked at the room and went, “hold on a second y’all. I need somebody to translate this for me. I want you to speak in Kinyarwandan. This conversation is not for me. It’s for you. When you’re done finished I’ll know you’re done. But don’t worry about English. No more English. Okay?”
At first they looked at me like, “Is she serious?” But I was like, “go ahead.” The room lit up with conversation after that. And when they exhaled, I said, “thank you very much. Anybody else?” And then someone else would go. It was like, okay, you’re not in the room to guide the conversation. You’re there to set the space and a platform for people to have a conversation. That switch in my understanding shifted everything for me. It was like, Oh, I get Freire, I get it now. All these things that were theoretical at some points became super practical: why are you in that room? You’re not being loving if people feel like they can’t speak, Dorcas.

You could have read Freire twenty times, but you needed to have it click.
Exactly. Being a colonizer in the space. Right? Vs. being…
You had to have the consciousness to see yourself as a colonizer and the humility to see yourself as a colonizer. And the faith to know that there was something on the other side of that.
Exactly. And that faith is a part of the work that we do. Because we never know how a workshop is going to go. Laughs. Ever.
Thanks, Dorcas. I’m excited about this conversation.
I have enjoyed it. I really love you. You have a very grounding, centering presence. This was very lovely for me.
Thank you. Thank you. I hope that getting to reflect like this is some of that fuel—
Yes. This is the nourishing I need. This is some of what we do in between the crazy times, to help reenergize, to help connect. Because this is worth it, this is worth it.
