His parents weren't too keen on the idea of a pet, but young Gray did his best to convince them he should be allowed something (he really wanted a dog of course but didnt hold out much hope). He would often go exploring and bring back some manner of creature to show them, along with a list of reasons he thought would persuade his parents to let him keep it. Most notably, he once brought back a rather large frog that ended up causing a massive ruckus in his mother's art room (he did Not get to keep the frog).

The cabin he owns was actually a request reward from a job he took when he was younger. It wasn't in very good condition when it was awarded to him but, over the years, he has fixed it up (at times with help from Leo when they used to team up and take jobs in that area). It was a monster fighting quest and the cabin wasn't originally part of the reward. The requester was an old woman who owned the cabin, her family had been killed by the monster, and the reward was simply jewels. After the monster was defeated, the old woman decided that the place was too painful for her to live in, and so she gifted it to Gray and moved to another town.

He likes to visit museums and art galleries whenever he's in a town that has them, they remind him of his parents, and he just likes art and history in general.

While he doesn't have a particularly large sweet tooth, he does really enjoy drinking hot chocolate and is quite particular about the brand and how its made, as he's very loyal to the traditional Icebergian recipe.

In his earlier/mid teens, he signed up for classes held by a master swordsman in order to improve his own skills with his ice-make weapons, however he was soon moved to private lessons due to his (surly) attitude and skill. The official course was only a year long, but he continued to train with the swordsmaster regularly for another year after that and would return for more training sporadically over the years.

Despite having an eye for aesthetics, he isn't too fussy about his own appearance for the most part. For years, whenever his hair got too long, he'd simply take to it with a knife himself. Somehow, it generally turned out pretty well, which was reason enough in his mind to carry on with the practice. After Leo caught him in the act of cutting his hair (not long after Leo himself joined FT), Gray started to go to a professional, at Leo's insistence. During the disbandment of Fairy Tail, Gray's hair got fairly long and he was quite tempted to return to his old ways of cutting it himself, but held off and eventually (once everyone was back together), asked Lucy to have Cancer fix it up.

He's one of the worst people to watch scary/horror movies with, because jump scares make him instinctively freeze whatever is nearby or whatever he's holding/touching. In general, anyone or anything that startles him tends to end up frosty.

Okay one more post about the early ISM stuff then I'm done:

Rainy was initially supposed to get an eyepatch for some reason or another I don't remember why.

I had a vague character named Annie with animal powers but couldn't decide on a design I liked and tossed her to the side

Buster is actually the name of my mom's dog and started as a placeholder for a real name, but somewhere along the line it just became Buster's actual name.

Blink used to be named Shadow, and could make shadows move at will. Supposedly also had portal abilities but I scrapped it cause I thought it was too vague and powerful.

Seraphine is actually a relatively new name. For the longest time I didn't know what to call Seraph, because I'd settled on Moonblaze originally then proceeded to go 'no way in hell' when I turned 16.

Mira used to look and act like a genderbent Kanan from Star wars rebels because I liked his design so much. Still consider it from time to time.

On a related note Nova's character was first inspired by Sabine from Star Wars rebels as well, and her paint bombs still closely resembled Sabine's, while her look was loosely based on the Mysterious Mare-Do-Well design from My Little Pony.

The inquisition was SIMILARLY inspired by the Star Wars Inquisition, and while I did flesh it out considerably to stand on its own, the baby stealing, number system, and super powered part definitely stems from them.

Blink originally had a bird companion named Midnight that could transform into a small dragon at will. Mentally the bird looked like a recolored, night verson of Filimina from My Little Pony (the Phoenix). I don't remember why I scrapped Midnight cause honestly she was amusing to write about with her own sass and personality.

“Oh Phantoms my big brother, pops never really understood our human halves or limits so…” and he just shrugs like he didn’t just drop Lore. And the teens smell blood in the water, they want to know more.
