Omg thanks for the song recs <333
I loooooved recently by Liana Flores I added it to my bops playlist as soon as I heard the opening oooo's it was so so pretty :)))
I do also like San Fran! But in general I think the Mowgli's do good bops :)) And I love Stella by cereus bright!!!!! You're absolutely right it is absolutely a dancey vibes song and I like a lot of their other songs too!! Happier than me esp. has such toxic familial relationship vibes to me and it's so tasty
I'm so glad you liked hundred days!!!! It's one of my absolutely fav songs in the whole wide world and I'm animating something for a dnd campaign for the song so it's on my mind. I love the part in the middle where it's like the singer is screaming "I WANT. A HUNDRED DAYS. OF BRIGHT LIGHT!!!" and I can FEEL IT IN MY SOUL AND MY HEART
Never love an anchor is a classic and is a complicated motherly relationship song for all characters forever and ever <3 I love the crane wives in general but I think the garden and the well are underrated songs too
So for songs I feel along those vibes I give you:
Beloved, Mumford and sons
Thus always to tyrants, the oh hellos
Willow tree march, the paper kites
Cleopatra, the lumineers
Ophelia, the lumineers
Let's keep the recs going!! <3333

HAPPIER THAN ME SOUNDS SO VENGEFUL HKJHG i love the somber intensity ooh it is tasty for real >:3
OMG SONG ANIMATICS, hundred days would make for SUCH a good animatic, the way that it starts with a single clear singer and then RAMPS UP THE ENERGY, it was practically built for a narrative, you could ABSOLUTELY make a dnd campaign animatic from this, i UNDERSTAND I UNDERSTAND FOR REAL. there is a very real yearning energy in this and i ADORE IT, I KNOW THE PART YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT OUGH I LOVE HOW ITS SUNG, the passion!! the emotion OUGH!!! YOU'RE SO REAL AND TRUE FOR THIS!!!!!!!!!!!
oh SO TRUE the crane wives,, ough chefs kiss!! <33
Beloved - i do love mumford and sons <33 this song is sweet awa :'] <33 i keep thinking the verses are building up to something stronger but it seems to keep steadily level? i still like it though, it's lovely <3

Willow Tree March - yesss ive been meaning to get into more of the paper kites! OH WAIT I KNOW THIS ONE HKJGH i swear ive seen an animatic to this or something? i love how folksy it is, 10/10 would give my dnd party bardic inspiration while dancing around a campfire in the forest <33
Cleopatra - oh i am fond of this one, oh you could absolutely make a disco animatic out of this hkjh the first verse being harry and dora ("And it hardened like my heart did when you left town") and the second verse being kim and eyes ("So I drive a taxi, and the traffic distracts me / From the strangers in my backseat, they remind me of you") and the bridge waugh (HARRY - "And the only gifts from my Lord were a birth and a divorce" / KIM - "But I've read this script and the costume fits, so I'll play my part") and then the bedroom after the tribunal ("leads me back to my guestroom / It's a bed and a bathroom / a place for the end'') OUGH VERY NICE HJKGH <33

IM SENDING PIXAL FOR YOUR ASK MEME!!
I’M SO GLAD YOU ASKED SHE’S THE MOST CHARACTER EVER
Favorite thing: Everything <3 She has one of the best designs in the show. I love her development and personality. Her Samurai X reveal slays. She is so competent. I love her <3
Least favorite thing: Every time she screamed in Rebooted they used Nya stock screams and Pixal and Nya’s VAs sound NOTHING ALIKE so it’s like very noticeable and I HATE IT.
Favorite Line: “This will require 1276 hours to complete… I’ll have it ready in the morning.”
brOTP: PIXAL AND NYA ARE BEST FRIENDS (CANON) Also just her and anyone. Every single time Pixal interacts with anyone I do a little happy dance.
OTP: I don’t usually ship characters that already have a canon pairing. Pixane I suppose? Of course samurai shipping because I’m contractually obligated to support all sapphic ships (it says so in my lesbianism contract).
nOTP: Hotwire shippers I’m terrified of you (pls don’t hurt me)
Random head-canon: She’s a certified bug lover. Will watch a line of ants for an hour. Lets the spiders stay in the monastery and gives them names. When a bug is grossing the others out she picks it up with her bare hands and escorts it outside. She wants one of those butterfly raising kits.
Unpopular opinion: I hated her until season 7. She was SO annoying, one of my least favorite characters. Now she’s my #1 fav <33 But rebooted is still unwatchable for me, for multiple reasons, one of them being that it makes me hate my beloved blorbo.
Song I associate with them:
I use this song for all of my not-quite-human and fringes-of-the-found-family blorbos and Pixal is BOTH so it’s perfect. The song is actually about struggling to relate to your birth culture, but if you squint it’s about struggling to relate to humans.
Favorite picture of them: Not sure I have one but CAN WE TAKE A MOMENT TO APPRECIATE THIS BANGER ASS POSTER FROM MARCH IF THE ONI?
#TY FOR THE ASK!!!#ninjago#lego ninjago#ask game#pixal borg#she’s my favorite character I’d die for her

Evermore- Maliksi x Reader
Title: Evermore
Genre: : )
Warnings: Not much but I’ll leave it to you guys lmao. Implied Relationship as well so ye.
Word Count: 1, 690 k +
Description: I don’t know WHY I get ideas for fanfics at ungodly hours of the night like I’m supposed to be on a break here since my neck still hurts from writing that 2k pound of word vomit that is known to be one of my greatest smut piece that eventually earned me the title as ‘The Emissary for Zaddy Cannibal’ WHEEZE and I started writing this at 1:57 am so let’s hope I’d finish this before 4 am. I’m basing some stuff I know about Maliksi from the comics and perhaps the anime as well. I also suggest listening to Evermore from the live-action version of Beauty and the Beast after reading!
PS. I didn’t finish this last night because I got sleepy at 3 am. There’s an AO3 version of this that’s direct to the point if you want something shorter than this one which can be found here! Oh and my grandma suggested that I set the font size to 12 instead of 11! and as always, I finished this at 3:29 am GGWP talaga.
Anyways, enjoy! _______________________________________
If people asked about how the Prince of Tikbalangs was like as a person, most of them would describe him as rowdy, haughty, stubborn at times may even be perceived as a pervert due to his distaste of not wearing any underwear underneath his jeans. Some thought of him as the classical, spoiled rich kid who cared for no one but himself but in reality, he was so much more than what people would perceive him to be. Being a Prince was something, sure he got everything that he wanted regardless of what it was, he would always find a way for it but sometimes it led him to live a rather lonely life that felt like he was nothing more but a slave to live through this illusion of being the perfect prince.
If they took the time to peek through the curtains of his façade, they would see that he just wanted someone to understand and see him for who he is but this also proved to be contradictory for the poor fellow given the fact that every time someone would show him just the right amount of honesty and kindness, he would find out that most of these people were only after him for things such as taming him to become their loyal servant, for his money or even for the sake of his looks. He thought that this curse of his would stay with him for the rest of his Engkanto life but somehow that all seemed to change his rather pessimistic view on life when he had come across someone who would turn his whole life in a different direction.
Maliksi had met (Y/N) (L/N) on one of his father’s many extravagant events where he was forced to sit through it. Of course, while his father was busy chatting away, the prince took this as an opportunity to sneak away which eventually led him towards an unsuspecting person who would change his life forever.
At first, the two of them were like total opposites, always clashing and arguing about something to the point that his father, Senior Armanaz had to interfere with their constant bickering but time seemed to wear both Maliksi and (Y/N)’s dissatisfaction for each other’s presence and instead began to tolerate the other, which eventually led into something more than just friendship among the two.
Maliksi and (Y/N) were completely inseparable, almost attached to the hip to the point that the Prince was rarely seen without them. He would take (Y/N) on trips across the country, sometimes he would take them out on long drives after his races and almost everything in between. People have reported that the two seemed even more in sync especially in battle, covering each other’s backs while bantering about which car model was the best or where they would eat after this whole ordeal like the two of them were playing a mere game of Patintero or even playing a good round of Pogs to see who got the most hits on their opponents and who seemed to be stronger.
But there were precious moments where Maliksi would take them on trips across the country just to escape from the hectic and bustling streets of the city and gave them the taste of what it means to be free and live life in color. He would watch his partner’s joyful and almost curious gaze with a feeling of warmth and care in his chest that would make him smile along with them, the two of them would participate in various festivals such as Flores de Mayo and its ritual pageant, Santa Cruzan, The Masskara Festival in Bacolod down to his personal favorite which happened to be the Moriones Festival that takes place in Marinduque. But out of those trips, the one that he treasures the most was the time Maliksi and his parents had flown out to their home province, Bukidnon to celebrate the Kaamulan Festival where his partner met the rest of the family, of course, this was also the time where he had proposed to (Y/N) after their 3 years of dating, he was glad that they had accepted his proposal.
Who knew things would eventually change from thereon. With the underworld restless and agitated from all the events that have transpired, it seemed to put a strain between Maliksi and his fiancé. To make matters worse between the two, Maliksi began to do races that would conclude in fatal car accidents for both parties. This would result in (Y/N) and Maliksi arguing non-stop every time they meet however these fights never resulted in something physical but it would leave them in tears or the other walking away with a slam of the door. This cycle seemed to break the moment a certain Babaylan-Mangdirigma had beat him at his own game and managed to snap some sense into him as well the moment his beloved ran at him at full force, scolding him right in front of Alexandra Trese before the two left to settle their problems in private.
“Magpakasal na tayo.” Maliksi told (Y/N) the morning after the two of them had reconciled. Of course, this made his fiance cough up their drink, eyes wide and still hacking their lungs out while Maliksi made his way over to them, patting their back gently to ease their pain. Once things were clear, (Y/N) could only look at him, disbelief and surprise evident on their face before they spoke, “Seryoso ka ba?! Paano yung simbahan, yung venue-“ Holding their hands in his own, Maliksi could only give his soon-to-be spouse a grin, placing a chaste kiss upon the back of their hands. “Wag ka nang magalala, babe. I’ve got it covered.” And just like he had said, Maliksi did have it covered, the venue, the church, and everything in between. It was a quick but simple ceremony that had his parents and (Y/N)’s parents present and nobody outside of the clan knew about this union between them. Time seemed to move quickly after that but the two newlyweds felt like it was an eternity for them both.
In a short amount of time the fantasy of church bells and dreaming faded into war cries and chants of ‘Sic Itur Ad Astra’ quickly and we see Maliksi and his spouse come face to face with the greatest foe they’ve ever come across, the war-god of Bukidnon, Talagbusao. With the rest of their forces subdued by the War God and Maliksi trying to recover from the hit he had taken from Talagbusao, the Tikbalang prince seemed to take notice that his spouse was nowhere in sight and panic seemed to take a hold on him like a choke-hold. Standing up, he began to look for them, ruby-red eyes rapidly scanning the area, furiously looking for his beloved, silently praying to Bathala that they were okay or let alone still be alive.
His prayers seemed to be answered when he saw them, still kicking and fighting and running to where Talagbusao was and he immediately knew something was wrong. “(Y/N)!! ANONG GINAGAWA MO!?” Maliksi yelled out through the sound of roaring bullets, trying his best to reach over to where their lover was. “Alexandra, ngayon na!” Maliksi heard (Y/N)’s commanding voice ring out as she caught the Babylan-Mandirigma’s knife, Sinag throwing it to her while they subdued Talagbusao to the best of their abilities, eyes locked with their husband as they mouthed at him, ‘Patawarin mo ako, Maliksi.’ And as quick as a flash, Alexandra, Talagbusao, and (Y/N) disappeared into the Dragon’s Gate. Maliksi was left to watch his spouse in paralyzed horror and shock disappear right before his eyes, chest clenching in panic as the impact of the closing portal sent everyone nearby it flying backward.
_____________________
A month has then passed after that event and we see Maliksi within the Trese household as he would always do, always waiting, hoping, and praying that his (Y/N) would return to him safe and unharmed. This day was different than the other days he would spend at the household because this day was the day that Alexandra Trese had returned as announced by a pale-looking and wide-eyed Hank. The tikbalang prince was the first to head where Alexandra---who was now swarmed by her older brothers and the kambal, his eyes still searching for his spouse, his expression of hope immediately diminished as he spoke, his voice slowly trembling with each step he took, “Nasaan si (Y/N), Alexandra?” at the mention of his spouse’s name, Alexandra then refused to meet his eyes as the rest of the Trese siblings along with the Kambal clearing a path for him, all watching him with disconsolate looks and glistening eyes as Alexandra held onto Sinag as tightly as she could, trying her best to find the right words to say to him.
“Wala na si, (Y/N), Maliksi. She’s gone.”
_________________________
“There is a story, of a man who had lost his beloved in a war, some say he still waits for their return, others say that the day his beloved had disappeared, he had soon followed.”
“They say that this man could be found standing by the tall windows of Tower A [1] located in Ayala Avenue. Urban myths suggest that this man is a ghost bound to the building, others say that he’s the reason why that Tower still exists.” Now in his prime, Maliksi sat in the place where his father used to sit. It had been years since he had taken over the clan and years since his beloved, (Y/N) was taken away from him at such an early age. Beside him was an empty throne reserved for them once they return. No matter how many years it would take him, Maliksi Armanaz, former prince and now leader of the Armanaz clan, would still wait for his beloved, (Y/N) to return to him until the end of his days. He would wait for them for evermore.

So, I just finished reading the fanfiction that you recommended and now I look forward to new ones, so if you know something else to read please let me know.
I’m finally here! It took me a lot of time to find new works to suggest - and not because I’m lacking material. I’m still following a lot of works, but I don’t want to suggest unfinished fictions, so I had to see their endings before deciding if they were good or bad. So they won’t happer now, but they can always have a place in Recommendation part 3 (that will come out when someone will ask me again in the future):

Apologies by Fangirlwriting
This fiction is about Thomas having an abusive relationship and how it affected every Side. Janus is the only one still lucid enough to realize there’s something wrong in this relationship and we follow him in his “quest” to save all Sides - quest that will final lead to Thomas leaving his abuser.
The pace of the story is amazing, there’s this sense of “doing this before it’s too late”, all while following Janus around and rooting for him.
And some choices are GREAT. Logan isn’t locked in his room “because of the plot”, but it makes sense. Just like Virgil’s reaction when Janus talks with him. And all the Sides’ reactions are so realistic it really gives you a nice feeling.
____________________________
Cold Comfort by storytellerontheside
A great story about Janus realizing what the Core Sides’ issues are, working to help them and then... well, up to you to see it. Spoiler: it broke my heart in tiny little pieces, then put them together one by one.
Some ideas are absolutely amazing and left me utterly delighted. The idea about Logan’s room is the most innovative, painful and logic you can imagine and I loved it with all my heart. The Roman chapter is great as well. And the Remus one is both adorable and oh so painful oh such good pain ow my heart.
In other words: if you want to suffer, but in a satisfying way, read this. The style is good, the ideas are good and everything is pain, but you’ll love it.

Three Minutes Less by Fangirlwriting
Oh, I definitely won’t forget this story so easily. This will probably be stuck in a corner of my mind for a long while, because I absolutely adored it.
The plot is as simple as it looks: Roman dies and a demon offers Remus the chance to come back in time to save his brother. But every time he comes back, Remus loses 30 minutes of his life.
Do you think it’s a race-against-the-clock story, with ideas and plans and how we will focus on every little detail... but no. There’s also this, but it’s first of all a psychological story. And not Roman’s, but Remus’ psychology. The thoughts, the questions he asks, his way of thinking, there’s a lot here. And a lot of regret and sadness too - and yes, there’s also the race against time. But there are also some powerful chapters and scenes. Like the mall scene (it’s so powerful, I love it) and Remus’ conversations about death and leaving something behind... wow. Just wow. That’s truly a great story.

Humility's A Sin by Ptolomeia
Awesome in everything. Plot? Awesome. Writing style? Awesome. Pace of the story? Awesome. Pain? Awesome. Solution? Awesome. Roman? A hero. (seriously, I LOVED Roman in this story. That’s probably my favourite Roman) Janus? Another hero, but also a moron. Just to give you the idea: while reading the last chapters, I was crying and laughing at the same time.
Long story short: there are problems, of course. And Roman ducks out. His decision starts a cascade effect, that leads to all Sides being involved in this rescue mission, with a side dish of angst, more angst, the best kind of angst (especially with Patton. Ah, such perfect angst). But also King Creativity angst - and used in the best way.
It’s not like you should read this. It’s you MUST read this, because this is so good and satisfying, it’s absolutely worth the time spent.

The Other Side of the Mirror by Frejennix and Lalijinx
Techinically this isn’t a story, but a collection of one shots/short fanfictions and they’re all closed, so it technically counts as both “on work” and “finished” at the same time.
And this series is AMAZING. The concept is very simple: the Dark Sides and the Core Sides switch places. So we have Thomas with Janus, Virgil and Remus as Core Sides and he’s slowly learning about his Dark Sides.
Logan is the first one to be introduced and we’re learning to understand him, to know him better - just like Janus, Virgil and Remus are. There are a lot of hints about what will happen and it’s clear there’s a big plot planned.
The single fanfictions are very good. The writing style works, the rhythm is interesting, the characters are great. It’s a very nice way to spend some time - and a great series to follow!

Flores Facets by Whiskey_With_Patron
After The Other Side of the Mirror couldn’t left out the second important series I’m following. And this is SO. CUTE. It’s basically Sanders Sides, but from Nico’s pov. And we know his Sides. And, just like Thomas’ Sides, they’re full of issues. Of course. Especially Heart, but for a comprehensible reason. There are only four parts until now, but it’s starting to emerge a bigger plot, with possible dark sides and future names for every Side.
In addition to that, Nico isn’t just “the pretty boy”. We see him struggling with the aftermath of his last relationship, with his feelings for Thomas, with his desire to become a writer. Every shot is a nice addition to the series, it’s well written and it’s a nice way to spend some time while reading something good.

With A Door Between Them by rosesisupposes
After POF, Janus tries to talk to Roman. Simple as that.
But compared to many others stories, in which they start to profusely apologize and it’s all Good Feelings TM, here it’s... a conversation. They talk about a lot of stuff and it has a nice flow. It never sounds like it’s forced or they’s just following a script. One of the best ways to let them handle their issues.

Fitting Pieces by Haley3
Who is she? Never heard of her~
Okay, I wrote this. It’s an Intrulogical, that means there’s Remus and Remus doing Remus things. But there’s also Logan being the absolute nerd he is. And they both have amnesia, so they should find a way to get their memories back. But all they have is a tiny little dice.
If you want to give it a try, be my guest.
Or you don’t like Intrulogical and you prefer to read something about the Dark Sides being a family, with special focus on the relationship between Janus and Virgil? I have In te, Domine, speravi - In you, Lord, I have hoped that gives you an insight on them, through Janus’ memories (real and fake ones). All of this with a side dish of religious references.
I know, I’m shamelessly promoting myself.
____________________________
Morbid Fascination by alicat54c
Last but not least, a great work from my beloved.
It’s an Intrulogical and you have the best of both wooorlds. Logan’s character is exactly like in the series: cold, unable to truly understand his feelings (or common slang words), yet fascinated by Remus and stubborn enough to keep hanging out with him despite everything.
Remus is amazingly creepy. His room is even creepier. Everything about him screams creepy, morbid, like a swamp monster fused with a boogey man. I loved the idea of crawling under your bed to reach Remus’ place. And I loved even more how Logan managed to demonstrate (by using the scientific method) how useful Remus is.
Special mention to Janus, because he’s also so damn creepy and I loved it so, so much.
In other words: do you like creepy stuff? Do you want to read something with huge creepy vibes, great ideas and amazing characters? This is the perfect story for you.

EOA Discord Ship Appreciation Week Day 3: Growing Old Together
a/n: hey everyone! sorry i’m a day late on this one, once i start writing something, i tend to like, not stop, and that’s what happened with today’s fic lol, it took me much longer than i expected! but, regardless, here it is! today’s fic is a bit different, focusing on a different couple (though, there are mentions of gabelena lol, but you could always fill in gabe’s name with your character of choice :) ), our beloved king raúl and queen lucía!!
basically, this fic is a what if. what if the king and queen of avalor’s story had gone slightly differently? what if king raúl and queen lucía hadn’t even left to work on the carnaval floats before shuriki arrived? in this au, raúl and lucía receive the happy ending they deserve, and they live to see many more family moments and milestones than they would in canon.
(also, for the sake of the fic, let’s just say in this au, avalor gains a new ruler once the heir becomes of age, not when the current ruler dies. okay? okay :) )
anyways, before i do exactly what i did while writing this and write wayyy too much, i’ll stop myself here. a quick thank you to everyone who’s been liking, reblogging, and leaving wonderful comments on my fics so far, you don’t know how happy they make me!! and a very special thank you to @procrastinateland , for providing the beautiful art to go along with the fic!! hope you all enjoy!!
fic is below the cut!
“Got everything, cariño?”
The queen of Avalor was busy packing the carriage with boxes full of colorful decorations to decorate their latest float for the upcoming Carnaval celebrations. Carnaval was Lucía's favorite time of year, and she always looked forward to designing, building, decorating, and of course, riding aboard the kingdom's infamous Carnaval parade floats. She and her husband, King Raúl, were headed to Castillo Park to check up on the progress of the floats, and to add a few touches to their own.
"Yes, yes, everything's here!"
One could barely see the king steadily walking down the steps of the palace, for he was carrying a stack of boxes that rose to practically over his head. Lucía couldn't help but shake her head as she turned to see this sight, and met him at the bottom of the stairs to help him out. She reached up to take the box at the top of the stack, revealing her husband's face behind it.
"Need a little help there?" she joked.
"I may have underestimated my balancing skills.." Raúl replied, beginning to place the rest of the boxes in the carriage. "But luckily, everything arrived in one piece!"
"We aren't even to the park yet, don't speak too soon!" Lucía responded.
"Have fun, you two!"
The royal couple turned to the sound of Luisa's voice, who stood at the door of the palace with her husband, Francisco, and Princess Isabel, who was waving goodbye to her parents. The two waved back, and Lucía blew a kiss to her youngest daughter.
"Thank you!" Lucía called to them. "We'll see you at dinner!"
Just as the king and queen were about to step into the carriage, the sky suddenly began to turn gray. Large clouds rolled in, some of them having a dark green hue to them. Raúl protectively wrapped his arm around his wife as they stepped back, trying to get a sense as to what was going on.
Suddenly, floating out of the green haze, emerged a figure. The closest royal guards rushed to step in front of the monarchs, their swords drawn, ready to protect their rulers at any given moment.
Lucía tightly held onto her husband, and noticed how his face began to grow pale. As the shadowy figure approached, Raúl instantly recognized their identity.
"Shuriki.." he whispered.
At the very sound of her name, Lucía could feel her heart sink. For the past few months, Avalor had been involved in various defenses alongside their allied kingdoms against the wicked sorceress. Thankfully, all of these efforts against her had been successful, and Shuriki had not been able to take over any of these kingdoms. But as it turned out, Avalor was the next target on her list, and they were gravely unprepared.
"Everyone, inside! Now!" The voice of the captain of the guard echoed throughout the courtyard as the royal family quickly made their way into the safety of the palace. But they knew a few troops were no match for Shuriki, she could infiltrate the palace in a matter of minutes. A plan had to be put in place, now, or Avalor didn't stand a chance.
For little Isabel, all of this happened in the blink of an eye. One moment, she was waving goodbye to her parents on the palace steps, now her and her family were running for their lives, having mere moments to reach a safe haven. A moment later, the princess had a sudden realization. Her abuelos were here, her mamí and papí were here, but one member of her family was nowhere to be found.
"Elena!" she called. "Where's Elena?"
Raúl had been calling out orders to royal guards and staff members as they rushed through the halls, but hearing his eldest daughter's name immediately shifted his strong demeanor. His Elenita was nowhere to be found, and was possibly unaware of the danger she was in. He frantically looked around for a moment, hoping Elena would miraculously appear.
"Elena!" he called, quickly checking in each room they passed. "Elenita!"
Lucía too, joined in on the frantic search for her daughter, but a moment later, she felt just the slightest bit of hope.
"The amulet!" she cried. "The amulet, the one we gave her for her birthday last year, will always protect her from harm!"
"But what if this sort of magic is an exception?" Raúl asked, fearing the worst. "Or what if she doesn't have the amulet on? We have to find her, Lucía!"
"Ay, don't put those thoughts in my head, cariño!" Lucía replied. "I hope we find her before we escape, I truly don't want to leave without her, but she has magical protection, we don't! Hopefully this will all be settled before we even need to escape, so we can-"
But before the queen could finish her sentence, a magical blast was heard from behind them. Shuriki was closer than they thought, they had absolutely no time to waste. The royal family picked up their pace, before they encountered their royal wizard, Alacazar.
"Come, come quickly!" he called out to them. "I have a spell to protect you! But we must perform it now, or it will be too late!"
The royal family had no time to decide on where their hiding spot would be, or where they would escape to if Shuriki did manage to take the throne. Their safest and fastest option was Alacazar's spell, so that would have to do. The wizard quickly explained that this spell would protect them inside of an enchanted painting, one that not even magic as powerful as Shuriki's could touch. As the family posed together for their 'portrait', Lucía couldn't help but think of her oldest daughter. In her final moments outside of the frame, she prayed for Elena's safety, that the amulet would protect her from harm, and that once Avalor was freed from the wicked sorceress, their family could be safely reunited. The Castillo-Flores family held each other close as the incantation was recited, and a moment later, a new family portrait, with one missing princess, was displayed on the wall.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
41 years later...
"Tlahcuilolli apartad, tlahcuilolli apareced, tlahcuilolli vivid!"
Elena bit her lip and clasped her hands tightly together as she watched Mateo recite the spell that would hopefully free her family from the enchanted painting. She had missed her family so much being separated from them for forty one years, and so hoped that she'd be able to finally reunite with them.
A moment later, a magical haze encircled the painting, and soon, the silhouettes of her family were pulled out of the portrait. Once the haze had cleared, Elena saw her family, safe and sound, as if no time had passed at all. Tears of relief filled her eyes as she ran right over to her family, being met by a tight embrace by her little sister.
"Isa!" she cried as she held her sister close. "Oh, I've missed you so much.." Elena then pulled back, just to take in this moment that she'd been dreaming of for so long. Isabel was still the adorable, intelligent, and innocent little girl she had last seen all those years ago, even down to the dirt stains on her dress.
Then, Elena looked up at her parents, who looked just as relieved to finally be free and reunited with their family.
"Mamí, Papí!" she exclaimed, and pulled them both in for a hug.
"Oh, Elenita.." Raúl said, holding his baby girl close. He feared if he let her go one more time, he would never see her again.
Lucía too felt her eyes fill with tears as she embraced her daughter for the first time in decades. "We were so worried about you, mija.." she said, before cupping her daughter's face in her hands. "You're alright..you're safe..the amulet really did protect you!"
"It did.." Elena replied with a nod, placing a hand on top of her mother's.
Elena then wrapped her abuelos in a hug, she had missed all of her family so, so much, and it felt so good to finally be reunited with them. But, Shuriki was still on the throne, their fight for the kingdom wasn't over just yet.
After a short but sweet family reunion, Elena, along with the Enchancian and Avaloran royal families, made their way onto jaquins to join the revolution stirring in the villages below. With the help of the brave people of Avalor, the forty one year reign of Queen Shuriki was brought to an end. Avalor was finally free once again, and the royal family was reunited for good. It was the happiest day in all of Avalor, and kingdom would rejoice for weeks on end. That day, it seemed as if life couldn't get any better. But, the kingdom's most prosperous and happy years were yet to come.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Four years later..
Raúl and Lucía stood proudly beside the Avaloran throne, in a ballroom filled with dignitaries, family, and friends from all over the world. Their beautiful Elenita was turning twenty years old today, but that wasn't the only event the kingdom was celebrating. After four years of experience as Crown Princess, along with learning plenty about ruling from her parents and grandparents, Elena was finally ready to become queen of Avalor.
Trumpets sounded to announce the princess' arrival, as the chief of the castle announced, "Crown Princess Elena Castillo Flores, please come forward!"
The doors to the ballroom were opened, revealing the future queen. Elena was dressed in a breathtaking blue gown, with floral embroidery across the bodice and bottom of the skirt. A red velvet robe trailed behind her as she carefully walked down the staircase. As she made her way to the throne, Elena smiled at all who had come to celebrate this day with her. Though her stubborn sixteen year old self insisted she'd be able to rule all on her own from day one, she knew that she wouldn't be the ruler or woman she was today without each and every person she passed by entering her life.
But, who had supported and guided her the most of all through this difficult journey was her family. Elena would often think of if her family hadn't survived the ordeal with Shuriki all those years ago, and how she would have ever become queen without their love, support, and guidance. She was so, so grateful they were here with her today to crown her, she had no idea where or who she'd be without them.
Once Elena reached the throne, she pulled each of her parents in for a hug, before turning to face the crowd. She stood as regally as she could for her last few moments as crown princess. Armando gently handed the crown to the king, who would have the honor of crowning his daughter the next queen.
Holding the crown above her head, Raúl took a moment to look down at his daughter, so proud of the woman she had become. He then announced, "It is with tremendous pride, that I crown you, Elena, Queen of Avalor!"
The golden crown was placed upon the young queen's head, and the ballroom erupted into cheers. Elena lifted her head with a smile, she had worked so hard and been through so much to finally achieve this moment.
Raúl stepped back and wrapped his arm around his wife, who took his hand tightly in hers. The former king and queen looked over at their Elenita, their baby girl. Even though they had mentioned it hundreds of times that day, and they would certainly continue to, they were just so, so proud of their daughter. They had no doubts that she would be one of the greatest queens to ever reign, and that Avalor would continue to thrive under her rule.
The next part of the ceremony would soon commence, where the queen would choose a partner for the first dance of the evening. Elena stepped forward, and approached her three closest friends. She bestowed a new title upon each of them, even naming her younger sister the Royal Inventor. But, she still had not chosen a partner to dance with.
Elena paused for a moment, and pretended to be in deep thought. "Now, I believe I have a decision to make.." she said, before turning towards her parents, and reaching her arm out to her father.
"Papá, no one has helped me learn how to rule more than you. Would you honor me with the first dance?"
Raúl couldn't help but gasp, as he could've sworn Elena would've chosen one of her closest friends to dance with, or even her grandfather. Sure, he knew he had been a mentor to her on her journey to become queen, but this came as a pleasant surprise to him. And of course, he would accept. He placed his hand to his heart, and bowed his head to his daughter.
"Of course, mija." he said. "It would be my greatest honor."
Raúl approached his daughter and took both of her hands in his. He leaned forward to kiss her on the forehead, and looked down at her with the proudest smile possible. "I'm so proud of you, Elenita."
"Thank you." Elena replied with a smile. "I couldn't have done any of this without you. Now, about that first dance.."
But, before they could begin the first dance, or even before any music started playing, Francisco spoke up.
"Wait!" he cried. "I didn't stay up all night writing a song for everyone to play for you for nothing!"
Elena tilted her head in confusion. "What do you mean, everyone?" she asked.
Then, Lucía, Isabel, and Luisa, along with Francisco of course, stepped forward, and reached their hands to the side.
"Guitars!"
Their guitars were then handed to them, and the quartet began to play a song written and composed specifically for the occasion.
Elena couldn't help but smile, she couldn't believe her family had gone through all the effort to write a song just for her first dance! But, said first dance hadn't begun just yet, what was she waiting for? She took her father's hands in hers, and the two of them began the first dance of the coronation ball.
By the end of the song, Elena and Raúl weren't alone on the dance floor. Just about every guest was dancing in their own ways alongside them, having a wonderful time. As Elena went over to dance with her friends, Lucía pulled her husband right over for a dance. The two of them laughed and smiled as they danced to the beat, they felt as if the golden days of Avalor were returning again. Brighter days were ahead for the kingdom, and they both knew that their Elenita, their shining light, would be a guiding light for Avalor.
¡Viva la reina! Our Elena! Our love will always shine so bright!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Approximately two years later...
In the kingdom of Avalor, every day is bustling, busy, and bright. Today was no different. But today, excitement was in the air for a very special reason. Villagers were lined up and down the streets of the city, waiting for the moment to arrive. Some had claimed their seats days in advance, either paying extra money for it, or by having a bit of a camp out on the sidewalk. Children waited eagerly with small Avaloran flags in their grasps, some even held up posters or drawings that they had made themselves. Their parents were quite tired, but they knew that being here was a once in a lifetime event. But, it wasn't only the village that was filled with both chaos and excitement.
Inside the palace, the staff was busy preparing the castle for this very special event. Rulers and dignitaries from all over the world would be visiting Avalor, so the venue had to look its very best. Every member of the royal family was busy getting themselves ready for the day, but Queen Elena's room however, was where the most activity was happening.
Lucía held back tears as she placed a veil over her daughter's head, her Elenita was to be married today. The moment she stepped back to see the bride's final look, her breath was taken away. Elena wore a strapless dress, with red and gold embroidery swirling across the bodice. The bottom of the dress was long and flowing, including small details of lace, with a six foot train trailing behind her. Her long, dark brown hair was rolled into a bun, one of her favorite formal styles. Underneath her veil was her usual tiara, the rubies casting a scarlet glow whenever the sunlight hit it. The young queen was the epitome of a beautiful royal bride.
"Oh, mija..you look absolutely beautiful.." she said, having to wipe a tear or two from her eye before they fell down her cheeks.
Elena couldn't help but tear up as well as she watched her mother's reaction. "Mamí, stop it, you're going to make me cry too!" she said.
"Oh, no, no..no crying until at least the vows, you can't ruin that beautiful makeup of yours!" Lucía replied. "You look absolutely perfect, Elenita." she added, taking her daughter's hands in hers.
"Thank you.." Elena responded with a soft smile. "I still can't believe this is actually happening.."
"Neither can I!" Lucía agreed. "It feels like just yesterday you were born, it was one of the happiest days of my life..and now look at that little princess! She's all grown up, she's now the queen, and she'll soon become a wife.."
"It only took me forty six years." Elena joked with a laugh, referring to the four decades they had missed while being trapped in enchanted objects.
Lucía laughed as well, she needed a quick laugh to distract her from how fast her daughter had grown up. "Well, I'm sure those forty six years were well worth the wait, right?" she asked.
Elena smiled and nodded at the thought of her soon to be husband. She was so thrilled to be marrying Gabe, she was the happiest woman in the world with him. Thankfully, her entire family had known him for just as long as she had, so he fit right in with the royal family, and Raúl had no hesitation on giving Gabe his blessing to marry his daughter.
Then, a knock at the door signaled that it was time for members of the wedding party to begin their journey to the cathedral, and that included Lucía. The former queen held her daughter's hands tightly and kissed her on the cheek.
"Good luck, mijita." she said with a smile. "I'll see you at the altar."
A few minutes later, Raúl entered the room to escort his daughter downstairs to the carriage that would bring them through Avalor City, and to the ceremony. He too had to pause for a moment to take in the beautiful sight that stood before him. He simply couldn't believe how his little Elenita had grown so quickly, into a strong, confident, and beautiful woman. Each and every day, he would be reminded of how proud he was of his daughter, and how far she had come.
"Elenita, you look simply breathtaking." he said as he approached his eldest daughter. "I changed my mind, I don't think I'll be able to let you go at the end of that aisle." he joked.
Elena couldn't help but laugh at the thought of that, even though she knew, if it were his choice, he probably wouldn't let her go, not wanting to accept how fast she had grown. "You should've thought of that before you gave Gabe your blessing!" she joked.
"I know, I know," Raúl said. "But I'm just joking, mija, I'm thrilled for you both." he added with a smile.
"Thank you," Elena replied, returning the smile. "I'm thrilled too, a little nervous, of course, but still so, so excited."
"I'm sure you are." Raúl responded with a nod. He then sighed, and looked his daughter over one more time. "I'm so proud of you, Elena." he said. "From the moment you were born, I always have been the proudest man in the world to have been your papí. As each day went by, I thought I couldn't possibly love you any more. But each new day, I was proven wrong. I am so incredibly proud of the young woman, queen, and now, well, almost wife that you've become. I love you so much, Elenita."
Elena wrapped her arms around her father and pulled him in for a hug. She was just so grateful to have such a loving and supportive family as she did, she wouldn't want anyone else by her side to celebrate this special day with her.
Once she finally let go, she turned to pick up her bouquet of poinsettias, perfect for her mid-December wedding. She then took her other hand and held her father's tightly. "Ready to go?" she asked.
"As ready as I'll ever be." Raúl replied with a proud smile.
Elena and Raúl walked hand in hand to the front door of the palace, where a carriage was waiting for them. The coachman opened the door with a bow, and both he and Raúl helped Elena to get inside. It was quite a task with her long train, but thankfully, everyone fit comfortably.
A moment later, the carriage began moving, and they were off. On the way to the cathedral, they passed the many villagers who had been waiting for hours for the queen's carriage to pass by. Elena waved to the people of Avalor with a smile on her face, and even gave a special wave to small children who were seated atop their parent's shoulders. After a carriage ride full of smiling and waving, they finally arrived at the cathedral.
Isabel smiled from the front doors, and began to walk down the steps to meet her sister. As the maid of honor, it was her job to make sure her dress stayed in perfect condition, which meant she was in charge of the long train on the way inside. The coachman opened the door, and Elena began to step out. With that came the cheers of the villagers who had managed to get a spot close by to the cathedral. Elena looked around and took everything in. The cheering villagers, the bells pealing, the thought that in just a short while, she would be Gabe's wife. Isabel took the back of her sister's train in her hands and lifted it up, and Raúl began to lead her inside. Before she reached the entrance, she turned around and waved to the cheering villagers with a glowing smile. She took her papí's hand in hers and held it tight, as they began to walk inside.
Inside the cathedral, she was greeted by her wedding party, who were all in position, ready to walk down the aisle the second the music started. They all gave Elena a smile, and Naomi shot her a reassuring 'thumbs up'. Isabel made her final adjustments on Elena's dress, and began to walk to her place. Once everything looked perfect, and everyone was ready to go, Elena took a deep breath, and the music started.
The journey down the aisle felt like miles for Elena, tightly holding onto her father's hand as he led her closer to the altar. She smiled at each person she passed by, the joy and excitement of the occasion had spread to practically every person in attendance. Elena's smile grew even bigger the closer and closer she grew to her future husband, this still felt so surreal. But, this was a reality, and she couldn't be happier.
It was a bittersweet moment for Raúl once they reached the altar, especially as he passed Elena's hand over to Gabe. But, with a nod of approval and a warm smile to his son-in-law, he knew that his Elenita would be in the best hands. He kissed his daughter on the cheek before heading to sit beside his wife, but before he could, Elena pulled him in for a quick hug.
"I love you," she whispered to him.
"I love you too, Elenita."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Eight years later...
"Abuelo! Abuela!"
Lucía and Raúl turned to the sound of their granddaughter's voices as they ran into the parlor. Six year old Catalina Blanca and Carolina Lucía were dressed identically, quite fitting for them being identical twins. They wore a dress of ruby red satin, with short puffed sleeves and an attached ribbon at the waist, tied into a perfect bow in the back. Along with the dresses, they wore matching paten-leather shoes, and a red bow headband to keep their long, dark brown hair out of their faces. Occasionally, even their abuelos had a tough time telling them apart, but the easiest way to differentiate the two was by their personalities.
"Oh, mijitas, you both look so beautiful!" Lucía said, as Carolina fell right into her arms. "You're going to be the best looking girls at the parranda tonight."
"You think so?" Carolina asked with a smile. "I think I'm the best looking girl every day!"
Lucía laughed softly and held her granddaughter close, Carolina was always the one to take pride in her looks. "I know so." she said.
"Abuelita, which songs are you going to play at the parranda tonight?" Catalina asked, already cuddled up in her grandfather's lap. Her and Raúl were particularly close, as Catalina was the heir to the throne, and would follow in her mother's footsteps to become queen one day.
"Oh, just the usuals," Lucía replied. "Let Love Light the Way, Hearts Full of Cheer.."
"I wanna play!" another little voice cried.
Three year old Luis Raúl poked his head into the room, and had clearly overheard some conversations about playing a song. He was absolutely enthralled with his family's love of music, and couldn't wait until he was old enough to learn from his bisabuelo Francisco, his abuela Lucía, or his mamí.
"Well, I do have my guitar handy, if you'd like play a song for us before we go," Lucía offered with a smile.
Luis nodded excitedly, and sat right beside his abuela as she reached over to pull out her guitar. Lucía placed their guitar in front of the little prince, and he began to 'strum' a song for his family. Of course, he played about as well as any three year old could, but to Lucía and Raúl, it was music to their ears.
Just then, Elena and Gabe made their way into the parlor, with two year old Marcelo Roberto in his papí's arms. Elena almost didn't want to interrupt this sweet moment between her children and their abuelos, but they did have a parranda to get to!
"I didn't know we were having a concert before the parranda!" Elena joked with a soft laugh. "Your guitar playing sounds wonderful, mijo, maybe you can lead the parranda next year!" she said to her son.
"Well, he will be learning from the best, won't he?" Raúl asked, looking over to his wife with a smile.
"Oh please, if that's the case, Elena learned from the best, and turned out to be even better!" Lucía replied.
"No, no, I think he should learn from his abuela, so he can grow to become a better guitar player than the both of us!" Elena suggested.
"Now that's more like it!" Raúl responded. "One day, I'm going to see this little one's name up in lights!" he added, reaching down to ruffle Luis' hair, which made him giggle.
"So, is everyone ready to go?" Elena asked.
With a unanimous yes, the royal family made their way downstairs to head into town to begin their annual Nochebuena tradition.
As the family made their way downstairs, a thought crossed Elena's mind. She had a gift for her family that she wanted to give them tonight, but by the time they came home from the parranda, the kids would be going to bed.
"Oh uh, wait!" she said, to catch everyone's attention.
The rest of the family stopped and turned around, wanting to know what may have been forgotten this time.
"How about we go and put the stockings on the mantel? We haven't yet, and by the time we get home, it'll be time for the kids to go to bed. Let's go!" Elena told them and motioned to her family to follow behind her.
Lucía raised an eyebrow with a smile. Her daughter had something up her sleeve, but she didn't know what. She glanced over to her husband, who shared a similar expression.
They soon entered the family room, which was decked with traditional decorations passed down from generations, and some that had been handmade by Elena and Isabel over the years. All of the children's stockings, which had been customized by Isabel, were laid on the table, and the kids rushed in to take theirs and hang them above the fireplace. Gabe helped to hold each of his children up one by one, so they were able to reach the metal hanger. Elena put up hers and Gabe's, but there was still one left on the table, one that was smaller than the others. Elena stood back and waited for a moment, curious as to who would notice it first.
Surprisingly, it was her youngest son, Marcelo, who toddled over and picked it up. He walked over towards his abuelo, not knowing what to do with it.
Raúl picked it up and looked it over. It was small, and it didn't have a name written across its top like the others. "Elena, what's this?" he asked.
Elena simply shrugged, and waited for her other children to make a guess.
"Do I get another stocking?" Carolina asked, hoping it would mean more candy for her.
"No, it's Marcelo's, they're both small!" Luis said proudly. That made sense, that had to be it!
"Catalina, do you know what it is?" Elena questioned. Catalina already seemed to possess logic beyond her years, so Elena was curious as to what her daughter would come up with.
"It doesn't make sense, we each have a stocking, with our names on it, and Luis, Marcelo has his own, so it can't be his, but I'm not sure who it belongs to!" she said.
Catalina was stuck. No matter how many situations she came up with in her head, none of them seemed right.
"Well, it does belong to someone, someone in our family.." Elena hinted.
Carolina's face suddenly lit up. "Is it abuela or abuelo's? They didn't hang a stocking yet!" she exclaimed, confident that she had solved her mother's riddle.
"Oh, we'll gladly take an extra stocking!" Lucía joked, pretending to reach over for it. "More dulces for us!"
Elena laughed and shook her head. "No one's gotten it yet!" she said. "Here, I'll give you another clue. This member of our family is not here to celebrate Navidad with us this year, but they will be here next year!"
Catalina was sitting in deep thought, putting all of the pieces together in her head. Not here this year, will be next year, a member of the family, no name, and the size of the stocking had to symbolize something. Suddenly, Catalina gasped.
"A new sibling?"
With that, Elena looked at Gabe, whose eyes were wide. All he could say in response was, "oh no..."
Elena laughed and smiled. "Yes!"
Catalina and Carolina held hands and jumped up and down in unison. Luis was also very excited, clapping his hands and smiling wide. Marcelo didn't truly know what was going on, but he knew it was something good. "Yay!" he shouted excitedly, though it sounded more like he was saying 'ray!', which made his reaction even cuter.
Lucía and Raúl were thrilled as well, they absolutely adored being abuelos to their four beautiful grandchildren, they couldn't wait to welcome one more.
"I'm so excited for you, mija!" Lucía said, wrapping her daughter in a hug. "You're certainly going to have your hands full, now aren't you?"
"I sure am!" Elena agreed with a nod. "But I've managed to survive with four, how bad could one more be?"
"Oh, I've heard that before, about three children ago." Lucía joked.
"And you two thought you had your hands full with this one, huh?" Raúl chimed in, as his youngest grandson reached up to him, wanting to be in his abuelo's arms. He picked Marcelo up and tossed him in the air, making the toddler screech in delight.
"Well, though our hands may be full, our hearts are even fuller." Elena said.
In the moments leading up to the parranda, Raúl and Lucía took in this moment surrounded by their ever growing familia. They couldn't help but wonder what would've happened on that fateful day over fifty years ago if they had left to work on the Carnaval floats even a moment sooner than they did. There was a good chance that they would've never lived to witness their daughter take back their kingdom and free Avalor from Shuriki's reign. Raúl may have never been able to place the crown upon his daughter's head to crown her queen of Avalor, or proudly walk her down the aisle on her wedding day. Lucía may have never been able to see how breathtakingly beautiful her Elenita looked moments before she was married, or witness the moment her daughter became a mamí. They thought of their four, soon to be five, beautiful grandchildren, who they never would've been able to meet. Becoming their abuelos was one of their greatest joys in life. While they couldn't help but wonder about if a single thing had gone differently, they wouldn't have wanted their lives to have turned out any other way.

Fear Street Part 3: 1666 Ending Explained
https://ift.tt/3etXAqp
This article contains Fear Street Part Three: 1666 spoilers.
It never could be as simple as reuniting an ancient skeleton’s hand with its wrist, right? That became obvious last week when the Fear Street trilogy’s ostensible heroine Deena Johnson (Kiana Madeira) attempted to break the curse of Sarah Fier by attaching all missing appendages in the alleged witch’s grave… only to be warped to Shadyside’s early days in 1666.
Now in Fear Street Part Three: 1666, we’ve learned the full unholy breadth of Shadyside’s curse, as well as their sister township Sunnyvale’s good fortune—and it’s dark. Involving a perversion of all that is good(e), the curse that has taken so many beloved characters over the centuries turned out to be more twisted than perhaps anyone expected… but not for Sarah Fier, a victim of superstition and misogynistic zealotry. And in the end, Sarah got the last blood-curdling laugh. Here’s how.
Goode Men, Wicked Slaves
For all those who became suspicious last week of the recurring Goode family, your paranoia has been vindicated: that cop really is the Devil. Or at least he’s in service of the Dark One.
By traveling to 1666, Deena was able to walk around in Sarah Fier’s shoes and get a taste firsthand of what it’s like to be wrongfully accused of witchcraft by a Puritanical community (even if she inaccurately later describes them to be Pilgrims). As it turns out, Sarah was not a witch; she was merely the young woman who’s secret love for Hannah Miller (Olivia Scott Welch) caused a spurned suitor named Solomon Goode (Ashley Zukerman) to take umbrage. And as it so happens, Solomon was the one actually dabbling in the dark arts….
Aye, it was Solomon Goode who spilled his blood on Satan’s stone, beginning the process of offering “one name” and soul for demonic corruption in turn for good fortune for the Family Goode. When Sarah rejects his offer to join his unholy bargain with Black Phillip—and more vexingly takes offense over his severing her hand—Goode accuses Sarah for the black magic that’s bewitched Shadyside: the curse which caused a murderous minister to blind children!
Sarah hangs, but not before offering a curse of her own: She will get back at Goode one day and reverse his damnable curse. In the meantime—and at a cost of more than 300 years of functional blood sacrifices—Goode and his family profit from their deal with Old Nick. From father to son, the mainline of the Goode family tree teaches the dark ways to each successive generation, who every decade or so offers a new name and a new soul. The person selected for damnation then goes on a killing spree, spilling blood that the Devil apparently feeds on. Beelzebub in turn grants the Goode family and their Sunnyvale town ongoing prosperity. Hence why by 1994, Nick Goode (also Zukerman) is a corrupt police sheriff and his brother Matthew Goode is the mayor of Sunnyvale.
Meanwhile, Shadyside persists in squalor until….
Magic Blood?
The most satisfying twist of Fear Street Part Three is that halfway through, it becomes Fear Street: 1994 Part 2! To be honest the accents in the 1666 portion of the film were a little dicey, as was the, uh, lack of Puritanism in a film set amongst Puritans. So best to go back to the era of flannel and overalls!
When Deena returns to the ‘90s, she realizes that Sheriff Goode has offered the soul of her girlfriend Sam Fraser (also Welch) to the Devil so she’d kill Deena and keep the secrets of Sarah Fier’s shallow grave buried. And since they have Sam locked up at Ziggy’s house, that means all the Goode family’s damned minions are soon going to be after them. But our heroes come up with a pretty nifty plan.
Thanks to how they saw Shadyside’s collection of nightmares pursue Sam in Fear Street Part 1, Deena and her brother Josh (Benjamin Flores Jr.) deduce that the ghouls will be strictly after Deena’s blood—which low-key makes me wonder how the monsters have such genetic precision to distinguish Deena’s DNA from that of her brother’s. In any event, they team up with adult Ziggy (Gillian Jacobs) and Martin (Darrell Britt-Gibson) by offering the movie-stealing line of the night:
Josh: Wanna help us kill Sheriff Goode?
Martin: Let me get my coat.
The plan for getting it done is also initially pretty solid. They sneak into the Shadyside mall after hours—which just so happens to be built on the site of the Camp Nightwing massacre, which in turn is above where the Goode family’s Satan’s stone is buried beneath the earth—and have Deena cut her hand, dripping blood into a bucket. Then by combining that blood with green paint, they’re able to create cursed blood trails throughout the mall, with each trail leading into a different department store. When four of Deena’s pursuant boogeymen show up, our Scooby gang locks the monsters into their department stores and waits for Sheriff Goode to arrive and inspect the remains of his handiwork. Instead of mangled bodies, he finds his teenage crush Ziggy, now ready to dump blood on his head like Carrie references never went out of style.
It’s an elaborate plan which was built on the idea of unleashing all the ghouls intended to kill Deena on their own master. However, it might’ve just been simpler to shoot him. Oh well.
This final flourish of course goes horribly wrong but at least we get the fun sequence where the hapless heroes figure out they can delay the monsters by spraying each in Deena’s green blood, allowing for proxy fights between pseudo-Jason Voorhees and pseudo-Ghostface.
All Goode Things Come to an End
The actual resolution to this centuries-long terror turns out to be pretty simple. Deena follows Goode beneath the mall and to the Satan’s stone, as well as the literal unholy beating heart of the Goode family’s power. While she fails at stabbing the much bigger evil copper, she at least succeeds at running a knife through his power’s beating heart. It’s apparently as easy as that to undo the curse. It also allows the vengeful spirit of Sarah Fier to return from the dead and finally stab a Goode boy in the eye, sending him to Hell and Shadyside’s curse with him.
The plot’s mechanics are simple, but the implications are much more interesting. Because who else follows Nick and Deena toward the mouth of Hell but Sam, still possessed and now conveniently free of her restraints. She also attempts to thwart Deena and nearly kills her, yet Deena is able to make simple eye contact with her one great love and break through, shattering Satan’s grip.
It’s intriguing since, technically, we’ve seen Goode’s curse divide lovers before, with Tommy Slater (McCabe Slye) in Fear Street Part Two: 1978 not even hesitating to swing his axe into girlfriend Cindy’s heart. But then Deena and Sam’s love is strongly hinted at as being of a greater emotional purity. After all, Sam is clearly a descendant of Hannah Miller, the young woman whom Sarah Fier loved and saved from the noose by insisting that she alone was the witch of Shadyside, even bewitching poor Hannah into impure thoughts.
Are Deena and Sam the reincarnations of Sarah and Hannah? It’s possible, if even on a spiritual level since Sarah doesn’t appear to have any direct descendants. In any case, unlike so many slasher movies released between the 1970s and ‘90s, a lesbian romance is prominently featured at the center of this story, and is even the one redemptive light in Shadyside’s darkness.

It also makes a striking juxtaposition next to Nick Goode’s dead body. This man might have been the current beneficiary of his ancestor’s bargain, but he represents something grimmer: the predatory nature of a society’s affluent feeding off the suffering and annual tragedies of their community’s underclasses. Sunnyvale flourished as a home for the wealthy while Shadyside wallowed in blood and trauma.
Kind of cuts deep the longer you think about it.
So… Who Took the Spell Book?
Of course this wouldn’t be an old school horror movie if it didn’t set up a sequel. Fear Street Part Three definitely offers resolution for its current narrative: Nick Goode is dead and exposed in the press as the Sunnyvale serial killer; Josh, meanwhile, may yet have his first girlfriend; and Deena and Sam are together, honoring Sarah Fier, if no one else will.
But beneath the reopened Shadyside Mall, we glimpse the book of black magic that Solomon Goode first used to make his pact, and a pair of hands belonging to an unseen face snatch it. Who stole the book and what are they up to?
Well, it’s worth noting that the Goode family has grown quite a bit in the 300-plus years since Solomon Goode accused Sarah Fier of witchery. Nick Goode appears to be the eldest son in the direct line. He’s the one taught the spells onscreen, and the boy who reads out Thomas Slater’s name—ironically in a bid to wrestle him away from Ziggy. However, just because Nick Goode is the one who damned Tommy and Ryan Torres in the last two Fear Street movies, it does not mean he was working alone.
Despite what Mayor Goode told the press about his brother, he almost certainly knew about his father and forefathers’ good work, as would the rest of the extended family. And here’s the thing…it will be so much harder next time for Deena (or, say, a new generation of millennial Shadysiders in the 2000s) to fight city hall. There’s also the likelihood that there’s more than one curse in that book of spells.
The Fear Street trilogy is over. The Fear Street shared universe may have only just begun.

RTARL’s 2020 NFL Season Week 6 Extravapalooza
This week’s slate of early games....is not good. If ever there were a day to forgo NFL football and attend to some neglected tasks around the house, catch up on some paperwork for the office, or even spend some time with family, today is that day. OR maybe just drink more than usual to make the football appear more attractive than it is. Both paths are healthy and good.
My picks are in BOLD, and the lines come to us courtesy of our friends at Vegas Insider. I use the “VI Consensus” line, which is the line that occurs most frequently across Vegas Insider’s list of sportsbooks. Your sportsbook of choice may offer a different number, and if you’d like my opinion on said number A) you are insane, and B) leave a comment below and I’ll try to answer at some point before things kickoff today.
EARLY GAMES
Houston Texans at Tennessee Titans (-3.5)
Like everyone else, I was GREATLY amused by Derrick Henry leaving a chalk outline of Josh Norman on the field via stiffarm in the Titans’ win over Buffalo on Tuesday. That said, Derrick Henry isn’t having a great season thus far. He’s averaging a career-low 3.7 yards per carry (down from 5.1 last year and 4.9 the year prior). His drop in efficiency has been masked by an increase in attempts (25 per game this year, 20 per game last year). His longest run so far this season is a measly 16 yards. Is he already wearing down? Is this just small sample noise? I dunno, but I don’t feel super great about his prospects today despite the great matchup, considering that he just had 20 touches against the Bills on Tuesday night.
Cincinnati Bengals at Indianapolis Colts (-7.5)
I really don’t have much to say about this game. I’m rooting for Joe Burrow like always, but this Indy defense is nasty and he’s still a rookie. Could be a rough one for him, but don’t worry I still think he’s the coolest and wish more than anything that he’d start smoking cigarettes on the sideline.
Atlanta Falcons at Minnesota Vikings (-4)
We’re long past the point where I need to accept that my faith in the Falcons was misguided, and yet here I am, picking them to cover once more. Gotta capitalize on that dead Dan Quinn bounce, baby! At least this time they’re squaring off against another squad of top-shelf bed-shitters in the Minnesota Vikings. Each of these teams have already sustained multiple heartbreaking losses already this season, with the Vikings somehow picking up two one-point Ls in their last three games. I’m genuinely impressed by the ability of these franchises to rip the hearts out of their own fanbases. Even when they blow games in ways they’ve blown them many times before, they still somehow manage to make it feel fresh. That’s not easy.
Denver Broncos at New England Patriots (-8)
As of now it looks like Denver QB Drew Lock will be back for this game, which is nice. He’s going to be without RB Melvin Gordon and TE Noah Fant, which isn’t so nice. After what felt like an eternity, but was really only one game, New England is getting QB Cam Newton back after his asymptomatic bout with COVID-19. Hallelujah!
Honestly, I don’t have a clue what to expect in this game. The Broncos haven’t played since October 1st, and the Patriots have had their facilities closed multiple times over the last couple of weeks, so practice has been sparse. I’m gonna go ahead and assume this one will be kind of ugly for both teams and I’m tempted to take the eight points. That said, I think Denver is really going to struggle to score, so fuck it I’ll make the homer pick.
Washington Football Team at New York Giants (-2.5)
Baltimore Ravens (-9.5) at Philadelphia Eagles
Eagles QB Carson Wentz is a broken man, his offensive line is in shambles, his favorite target (TE Zach Ertz) is either completely washed or isn’t trying due to contractual unhappiness, his #1 WR today is a 2019 6th round pick named Travis Fulghum, and he gets to face a Ravens D that ranks in the top 5 in EPA (Expected Points Added) against both the pass and the run and that blitzes at the second highest rate in the league. He’s gonna have a bad time. Luckily, fans will be allowed inside Philadelphia’s stadium for the first time this season, so he’ll at least have kind words of support from the stands to keep him going.
Cleveland Browns at Pittsburgh Steelers (-3.5)
This is a tough matchup for Browns QB Baker Mayfield. He’s struggled with accuracy all season, and I can’t imagine having injured ribs is going to help him zip the ball where he wants to, especially after he gets hit a few times by the very good Pittsburgh pass-rushers. My #1 hope for this game is a bench-clearing brawl, preferably after Myles Garrett levels Ben Roethlisberger and then taunts the hell out of him.
Chicago Bears at Carolina Panthers (-1)
It’s time for me to admit that I was wrong in my belittling of Panthers QB Teddy Bridgewater and the rest of the Carolina offense. They’ve been sharp as hell, and there’s been hardly any drop-off at all going from injured All-Pro RB Christian McCaffery to journeyman backup Mike Davis. Add WR Robby Anderson to the growing list of players who have IMMEDIATELY flourished after escaping the vortex of incompetence constantly swirling around incredible dipshit Adam Gase.
Detroit Lions (-3) at Jacksonville Jaguars
BIG CAT BATTLE! In a fight between Lions and Jaguars, it really comes down to terrain. Lions are bigger and stronger, and if this confrontation were out in the grasslands they’d have a decided edge. However, this contest takes place on the turf of the Jaguars, where they’ll be able to use their agility and climbing skills to their advantage.
LATE GAMES
New York Jets at Miami Dolphins (-9.5)
I’d like to think a thorough ass-kicking by Miami here would rid the Jets players of Adam Gase once and for all, but expecting a logical move from an unqualified failson is probably unwise. I’m enjoying what the Dolphins are putting together under Brian Flores, the first good Bill Belichick disciple.
Green Bay Packers (-1) at Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Most of the focus on this game has been on the QB matchup, which is understandable. The fact that each of these guys is welcoming back an All-Pro WR (Davante Adams for GB, Chris Godwin for TB) does make it extra spicy. But, I think the deciding factor here is gonna be defense. This is bad for the Packers, because outside of DB Jaire Alexander, theirs has sucked so far. Meanwhile, the Bucs come in at #2 overall on Football Outsiders Defensive Efficiency Rankings, where they’re equally effective against the run or the pass.
SNF: Los Angeles Rams (-3) at San Francisco 49ers
Niners QB Jimmy Garoppolo looked horrific last week in his return from an ankle injury. He was clearly not close to 100%, and despite positive practice reports this week on his injury status I can’t buy in until I actually see him able to step into his throws. I was actually surprised to see the O/U on this one at 51.5, as it feels like a low-scoring game to me, a man who definitely knows what he’s talking about.
MNF (Early): Kansas City Chiefs (-4.5) at Buffalo Bills
I’m furious with Kansas City for bringing in RB Le’Veon Bell to siphon touches away from my beloved Clyde Edwards-Helaire. IT’S NOT HIS FAULT THE O-LINE CAN’T RUN BLOCK WORTH A DAMN! Anyway, due to COVID-19 protocols, Bell won’t be suiting up for this one, so here’s to CEH ending his time as the primary back in a blaze of statistical glory. These teams are each coming off of bad losses, so I expect them to come out guns-a-blazin’. The Bills are fun as hell, but I can’t take them in a shootout against K.C. just yet.
MNF (Late): Arizona Cardinals (-1) at Dallas Cowboys
Dak Prescott’s gruesome injury was a huge bummer, even if you’re like most right-thinking people and viscerally dislike the Cowboys. I hope he recovers and eventually ends up with the huge pile of cash he was headed for prior to his lower leg turning into a Rice Krispies Treat. As far as backup QBs go, Andy Dalton isn’t terrible, but you know what is? The Dallas defense. I don’t think they can make enough stops to keep the Cowboys in this one, even if the offense still looks decent.
Last Week’s Record: 7-6
Season Record: 37-31-4

When I was a little girl my mother started taking me to Europe every summer. I don’t have endless detailed memories from my childhood, so these trips traveling through France, England, Germany, Austria, Switzerland and beyond were some of my most treasured. I remember the way my first scone tasted and the thick clotted cream I slathered on top served with a warm cup of tea that felt incredibly grown up at the time. Marching through countless museums, standing under the Eiffel Tower with wonder and amazement or the simple feeling of hearing a foreign language spoken and how I desperately wanted to learn it. My parents didn’t have gobs of money for these trips, so we would stay in bed and breakfasts or hostiles a few nights in a row and then splurge on a “fancy” hotel that I appreciated even more because it felt special.
I was lucky enough to live in Paris for several years on and off in my late teens, but those memories were much more about discovering the city on my own. I’ve been looking forward to creating new memories with my kids, while taking part in one of my favorite pastimes: travel!
Last summer I took Chloe to Paris for 10 days and we had such a life changing experience we decided to go again this summer, but this time we took 3 days to zip off to another beloved city: London.
I posted my travels on Instagram and so many people were headed there this summer as well, so they asked me to share where I had visited and eaten. Below is a list of some personal favorites, but I will say you can’t go wrong as both cities are an absolute treat.
TIPS:
* Bring a scooter for kids. I did a post on it here, but It’s a total game changer for cutting down on complaints and “I’m tired” when discovering a new city. You can pack one in your luggage, in the over head compartments on planes, or at gate check.
* Buy all your tickets ahead of time. You will save tons of time avoiding long lines and occasionally get tickets at a lower price. Great news if you’re bringing kids as many museums offer free passes for little ones.
* Take your time and slow down. There’s no need to rush. I find with kids doing one to two major attractions a day can be enough as it can be overwhelming for kids and you want them to enjoy the experience.
* We’re big picnic-ers! Paris is an especially picnic friendly city where you can grab a baguette, slices of cheese and fresh fruit to eat under the eiffel tower, along the Seine or in one of the gorgeous parks.
* In Paris it’s a right of passage to grab a crepe at a street stand and a baguette or croissant at your local patisserie. Chloe and I never met one we didn’t love!
* Metro. It’s safe and the best way to get around the city. Buy books of ten or twenty tickets at a time.
* Batobus – The boat is a wonderful way to get around and see all of the sights. There are many Batobus stops along the Seine and you can buy tickets at the stop. You can get on and off the boat as many times as you’d like with any of the passes but it’s probably best to buy a two day pass so you don’t have to rush.
* Paris Walks – Great tours of Paris that are only 2 hours. You’ll learn about specific areas – history, food, art, etc… Reasonably priced, well worth the time and great for a child’s attention span.
PARIS:
To see:
Musee D’Orsay: my favorite museum in Paris especially for impressionistic art in an old train station.
The Louvre – Buy tickets ahead of time and avoid the lines by entering at the “secret entrance” which is an entrance on the map called “Port de Lions”. Make sure to set aside hours for this treasure as there’s a lot to see.
Eiffel Tower: shh... this tour is a secret to most, but truly special getting to go in the underground bunkers on the Eiffel Tower grounds and then getting a private tour around and up the tower. A great way to beat the lines too!
Atelier Des Lumières: light museum focused on 3 artists and super kid friendly.
Versailles: it’s a quick train ride from Paris and worth every moment. The palace is gorgeous (visit in the afternoon) and head to the gardens before to avoid long lines, rent a boat, walk through the manicured mazes and grab a soft serve ice cream cone.
Below is a list of restaurants I’ve been once or more and felt were great for kids and adults alike. I’ve lived and stay in the 7th arrondissement most of the time, so many of these spots are in the 1st, 6th or 7th. Excited to hear about your favorite parts of the city, too! Tell me in the comments below.
Lunch/Brunch/Tea/Coffee:
Marlon - 7th
Cafe Central - 7th
Malabar - 7th
13 A Bakers Dozen - 6th
Angelina (a Parisian classic)
Les Deux Magots - 6th
Cafe de Flore - 6th
Le Comptoir - 6th
Frenchie - 2nd
Dinner:
Yam’tcha 2nd perfect for parents and a true treat. May be too “out there” for kids
Clover Grill 1st
Le Village 7th
La Fontaine De Mars 7th roast chicken dinner on Sunday’s is a must!
Desserts:
La Bonboniere 8th insane chocolates
Berthillon 4th classic french ice cream
Amorino 4th my favorite gelato
Pierre Herme 6th macarons and deserts
Laduree 7th macarons
Pozzetto 4th
The Bon Marche 7th a must for any food lover. The endless culinary products are mind blowing plus the shopping is off the charts!
LONDON:
Go see a show! If you’re traveling all the way to London, seeing a play is the way to go. Chloe and I went to Matilda and I have to say it was one of the best performances I’ve ever seen (and I’ve been known to take the occasional nap in plays. That’s our secret. Ok?)
London Eye The most incredible view of London and a treat for kids
Westminster Abbey buy tickets ahead to avoid the 45 minute line that I got caught in. It’s next to the London Eye, so easy to do both in a morning or afternoon.
Buckingham Palace If the flags are up and out the queen is home.
Victoria and Albert Museum The collection of jewels is reason enough to go.
Tate Modern Modern art for days, large rooms to explore and artists that will blow your mind.
Claridges I mark this not as a restaurant or hotel, but as a true experience for afternoon tea. This is a once in a lifetime experience that I will never forget doing with my mom. You can dress up, lay back and let the endless amounts of sandwiches, scones, tea, champagne and desserts take over.
Borough Market from food to events to all around great shopping.
Harvey Nichols and Harrods Get ready to shop. They’re only minutes apart and if you thought Paris was the place to shop just wait for the incredible fashion finds in London.
The Wolseley I’ve been here 5 times and it gets better each time. The service is out of this world and super kid friendly menu.
Where to stay: Just my 2 cents, but unless you're using points for a lovely hotel stay, I'm a big fan of Kid and Co! You can rent family friendly apartments all over the world and live like locals.
If you can’t make it to Europe this summer you can always pretend by creating your own Parisian fest at home with crepes, roast chicken and french onion soup.
If you have any questions or favorite spots in either city, please leave them below. I know I’ll be headed back again in 2019!

THE CANTICLE OF CANTICLES - SOLOMON'S CANTICLE OF CANTICLES - From The Douay-Rheims Bible - Latin Vulgate
Chapter 2
INTRODUCTION.
This book is called the Canticle of Canticles, that is to say, the most excellent of all canticles: because it is full of high mysteries, relating to the happy union of Christ and his spouse; which is here begun by love; and is to be eternal in heaven. The spouse of Christ is the Church: more especially as to the happiest part of it, viz. perfect souls, every one of which is his beloved; but above all others, the immaculate and ever blessed Virgin mother. Ch. --- The bridegroom is Christ, as God and man. His praises and those of his spouse are recorded by various speakers. Solomon has given us three works; for beginners, the more advanced, and the perfect; as the philosophers teach ethics, physics, and metaphysics. All the holy Scriptures contain spiritual food, but they are not all fit for every person. Heb. v. 13. With what humility ought we not, therefore, to read this most perfect and mystical canticle, as the sentiments of spiritual love are expressed in the same words as that of worldlings, and we are more inclined to follow our own judgment and carnal notions! W. --- None, therefore, should dare to peruse this work, who has not mastered his passions, having his conversation in heaven. H. --- The Jews would not allow any ot read it before the age of thirty. Orig. and S. Jer. --- Some of the fathers and commentators have even asserted that the mystical sense is the only one which pertains to this book, (Theod. Durham. T.) and it is certainly the true and principal one, though allusion may be made to the marriage of Solomon with Pharao's daughter, (C. Bossuet. D.) or with a Tyrian princess, (c. iv. 8. and 3 K. xiii. 5.) or with Abisag. Rabbins. --- Grotius shews the corruption of his own heart in his impure comments, as Theodorus, of Mopsuestra, is blamed by the second Council of Const. iv. a. 68. The name of God never, indeed, occurs; as he is represented under the idea of the bridegroom, &c. and the piece is allegorical. It might be divided into seven scenes, or nights, as the marriage feast lasted so long. Gen. xxix. 22. During this time the bridegroom saw his spouse seldom, and with great reserve, (C.) as was the custom with the Lacedemonians. Plut. in Lyc. --- We might also refer all to six nights, or to the six ages of the Church, conformably to the system of De la Chetardie and Bishop Walmesley on the Apocalypse. --- I. Age. C. i. 2. marks the ascension of Christ, and the propagation of Christianity; v. 4. 5. persecutions; v. 6. 7. vocation of the Gentiles; v. 12. protection granted by Christ. II. C. ii. 3. peace under Constantine; v. 11. 17. troubles excited by Arius. III. C. iii. 1. irruption of barbarians; v. 4. does not overturn the Church; v. 6. they are converted; v. 11. and Christ is more glorified, as Apoc. xix. IV. C. iv. 5. the Latin and Greek Churches; v. 8. the Chaldees, lions, and Greeks, leopards, (Dan.) are converted; the Turks obtain dominion; v. 12. the Greek schismatics cut off: v. 16. the Church is persecuted, but protected. V. C. v. 2. Dew marks the cooling of charity, (S. Aug.) when Luther appeared; c. vi. 3. yet the Church triumphs, particularly after the Council of Trent. VI. C. vi. 9. after the sounding of the sixth trumpet, the Jews are converted, and adorn the Church, in spite of antichrist's power; v. 11. she addresses the synagogue, v. 12. C. viii. 2. obtains leave to go into the house of her mother, as the apostles were of Jewish extraction; v. 7. the constancy of the martyrs appears; (see Rondet.) v. 8-14. the Church pants for her speedy union with her beloved. We may justly admire her authority, in preserving this and the former work of the canon, notwithstanding the internal and external evidence, and the ill use made of them by infidels, which seemed to militate against them. The Prot. Chateillon styles this "a wicked book." Several passages may, no doubt, be abused by a corrupt heart: but what is there so holy, which may not be perverted? When we meditate on this canticle, we ought to remember the admonition given by the Church in the Mass: "Let hearts be on high;" and Oh! that all might answer with truth: "We have them to the Lord!"
The additional Notes in this Edition of the New Testament will be marked with the letter A. Such as are taken from various Interpreters and Commentators, will be marked as in the Old Testament. B. Chapter 2
Christ caresses his spouse: he invites her to him.
[1] I am the flower of the field, and the lily of the valleys.
Ego flos campi, et lilium convallium.
[2] As the lily among thorns, so is my love among the daughters.
SPONSUS. Sicut lilium inter spinas, sic amica mea inter filias.
[3] As the apple tree among the trees of the woods, so is my beloved among the sons. I sat down under his shadow, whom I desired: and his fruit was sweet to my palate.
SPONSA. Sicut malus inter ligna silvarum, sic dilectus meus inter filios. Sub umbra illius quem desideraveram sedi, et fructus ejus dulcis gutturi meo.
[4] He brought me into the cellar of wine, he set in order charity in me.
Introduxit me in cellam vinariam; ordinavit in me caritatem.
[5] Stay me up with flowers, compass me about with apples: because I languish with love.
Fulcite in me floribus, stipate me malis, quia amore langueo.
[6] His left hand is under my head, and his right hand shall embrace me.
Laeva ejus sub capite meo, et dextera illius amplexabitur me.
[7] I adjure you, O ye daughters of Jerusalem, by the roes, and the harts of the, fields, that you stir not up, nor make the beloved to awake, till she please.
SPONSUS. Adjuro vos, filiae Jerusalem, per capreas cervosque camporum, ne suscitetis, neque evigilare faciatis dilectam, quoadusque ipsa velit.
[8] The voice of my beloved, behold he cometh leaping upon the mountains, skipping over the hills.
SPONSA. Vox dilecti mei; ecce iste venit, saliens in montibus, transiliens colles.
[9] My beloved is like a roe, or a young hart. Behold he standeth behind our wall, looking through the windows, looking through the lattices.
Similis est dilectus meus capreae, hinnuloque cervorum. En ipse stat post parietem nostrum, respiciens per fenestras, prospiciens per cancellos.
[10] Behold my beloved speaketh to me: Arise, make haste, my love, my dove, my beautiful one, and come.
En dilectus meus loquitur mihi. SPONSUS. Surge, propera, amica mea, columba mea, formosa mea, et veni :
[11] For winter is now past, the rain is over and gone.
jam enim hiems transiit; imber abiit, et recessit.
[12] The flowers have appeared in our land, the time of pruning is come: the voice of the turtle is heard in our land:
Flores apparuerunt in terra nostra; tempus putationis advenit : vox turturis audita est in terra nostra;
[13] The fig tree hath put forth her green figs: the vines in flower yield their sweet smell. Arise, my love, my beautiful one, and come:
ficus protulit grossos suos; vineae florentes dederunt odorem suum. Surge, amica mea, speciosa mea, et veni :
[14] My dove in the clefts of the rock, in the hollow places of the wall, shew me thy face, let thy voice sound in my ears: for thy voice is sweet, and thy face comely.
columba mea, in foraminibus petrae, in caverna maceriae, ostende mihi faciem tuam, sonet vox tua in auribus meis : vox enim tua dulcis, et facies tua decora.
[15] Catch us the little foxes that destroy the vines: for our vineyard hath flourished.
SPONSA. Capite nobis vulpes parvulas quae demoliuntur vineas : nam vinea nostra floruit.
[16] My beloved to me, and I to him who feedeth among the lilies,
Dilectus meus mihi, et ego illi, qui pascitur inter lilia,
[17] Till the day break, and the shadows retire. Return: be like, my beloved, to a roe, or to a young hart upon the mountains of Bether.
donec aspiret dies, et inclinentur umbrae. Revertere; similis esto, dilecte mi, capreae, hinnuloque cervorum super montes Bether.

Someday I Wanna Marry My Oldest Brother, Here’s Reasons Why.
Being the only daughter in my family, I grew up with two older brothers. My brothers and I have a huge age gap. With my oldest, his name is Bobby (from the Robert Kennedy), there’s like 13 years of age gap, while for another, the youngest one, Tito, (from Joseph Broz Tito) there’s 9 years difference of age.
My dad loves politics and history so much, he even named all his children with the world’s best leaders. I guess my mom loves him even more, she only satisfied with 1 Javanese name she put in all of her children’s names, lol. Mine would be Elizabeth, well it just happened to be my baptism name, inspired from the Queen of Great Britain herself and his Queen of his heart, his Mama, my Granny.
Moving on, my dad had always wanted a daughter. Apparently, having a daughter was some sort of pride in Flores culture, where Flores tribes adopted and honored the matrilineal system. (Oh, how I adore this kind of thinking!) Again, inspired by his former boss in the military, where the general and his wife had an unexpected pregnancy in the age of 46, that made my dad thought they still had a chance to have another baby. At that time my dad was 39 and my mom was 35.
Long story short, I was born in 1989. So, imagine my two brothers who had spent their bromance time, suddenly had to make some room for this tiny little baby girl in the house. For me, the apple’s of daddy’s eyes. Lol.
Anyway, that was just an introduction of my family. Things that I wanted to share with you was a lot bigger than just my family background.
So, did you happen to read the article of Reese Witherspoon and her thoughts about the women and ambition. If not, I suggest you to read everything she has to say about the power of female ambition. Now I truly understand why she was awarded as Women Of The Year in 2015 by Glamour Magazine, because she and her thoughts are amazing! Quoting one of her statements in that pep talk-essay is:
“Run away from a man who can’t handle your ambition. So many men think ambition is sexy.”
Yes. You read that right. She strongly advised us (women) to runaway from a man who can’t handle our ambition in life. Those men who can’t accept our views and goals are not worth a damn second of our precious time, because women with vision and dreams belong to nobody but her vision and dreams itself.
So please, let me explain about my daring and a bit misleading title, about me wanted to marry my oldest brother.
My brother got married in 2009 with my sister in law. And then they have two kids and in 2011, a few months after my niece was born, my brother decided to resign from the creative and advertising agency he used to build his career on. When he resigned, he was the Creative Manager of that one agency (where he and his wife had met, because at that time, his wife was his client), and his decision might have shocked my parents. He quitted because he wanted to be a stayed at home dad but would have still accept some creative design work from home (a freelancer).
My Dad was completely shocked at that time. My dad was old enough and he was raised conventionally where the man should be out of the home making some career and cash, not the woman. The thought of being a stayed at home dad and being a freelancer was something he could not imagine. He was a bit upset but he knew he was helpless because he respected the idea that my brother built a family of his own. So my dad told everything about his concerns to…… of course, yours truly. 😅
But long before my brother made this decision, he told me his vision. Due to that, I had some ammo to carefully explain to my dad why my brother took that action.
Here’s the reasons:
1. My brother saw the hard struggle being a mother and a career woman. He learned the struggle from our mom, who happened to have a career yet she was still able to manage to do all the house works for her husband and three kids.
2. He saw that struggles in his wife. The stressful days at work sometimes got on my sister in law’s nerves and it caused her an unnecessary tension and stress. The overnight working hours, deadlines, and all that so he knew he had to take actions before everything could get worse.
3. He just simply used his logic. He knew that his wife’s career was way better than what he was having at that moment, if he asked his wife to resign from her work, this would create an imbalance cash flow for his family. And of course, he was eager to send his children to the best Catholic schools in Jakarta, for my nephew to be in Colese Canisius (his beloved almamater), and for my niece is Santa Ursula. (Where I wasn’t accepted there probably because I wasn’t smart enough -- tears).
4. If they both were still working, their children would not get the parent’s affections and attentions, as they would probably grow up with other’s affections. You see, in my brother’s opinion, to give a full attention at your children is already the hardest thing, imagine if you have to do it while doing deadlines and all that work stuffs?
5. But despite all that, he saw that his wife had the passion and ambition to go further on her career, so he took action by NOT throwing her any challenges at home and supported her all the way to achieve the best at her career.
6. He knew, his wife had a better education, so he thought that my sister in law had invested the money and time long before they even met each other. He didn’t want his wife to bury all of her dreams, when instead he encouraged her to pursue her dreams and career.
7. Those are the things that I really wish I could get in my future partner. To support and encourage each other for greater benefits, to step down when needed, to sacrifice all of his ego so that us women can have more values other than just the baby and home maker. My brother truly believed that every woman was born with something more than that. This shows of how he raise my niece, Gia, where he never stop encouraging my niece to pursue and achieve whatever it is she’s aiming, as long as it’s something positive.
8. My niece currently takes ballet, drawing and singing classes at her school. And for every noon she would play some soccer in our neighborhood along with other boys. He even tells me that Gia is so much alike me, so he hoped one day Gia could be a woman that I am now, but without attending the “digit” school. Hahaha. Well I wish Gia would be the woman more than what I am now too Mas Bobby! ❤️
9. My brother does not pity himself for making breakfast each morning for his children, taking them to school, attending parents meeting, taking Gia to her ballet classes, taking Kaka to his soccer games, you know all that Stayed At Home Dads duties, cause he is proud of what he is and he does not care about what other people think of himself, cause guess what, these people opinions do not pay my damn bills. (Well IDGAF Attitude somehow runs real well in our blood haha).
10. But don’t get him wrong, he still takes his freelance jobs doing some creatives for advertising/designs. I won’t mention any brands but they’re huge cause I’ve seen him staying up all alone late at nights creating all these ads. Dan setiap kali invoice cair gue suka kecipratan hore!
You see all the reasons why I wanna marry someone who carries the same vision like my brother someday? A man who strongly believes that women were born with many purposes in lives other than just to marry and have kids. That we are capable of doing something great or even do what men’s currently do as well. Best way to wrap my writing is, find yourself a man who is not afraid of your ambition but instead thinking that your ambition is logical, achievable and makes you sexier!
