I AM FREE (finally finished my 25-chapter original story huehuehue, though it's just the first draft and I need to edit... but that's future me's problem)

So I can finally write fanfic again huhuhu (also I promise to add a bit to the Tales Beyond the Covenant fic and answer the asks in my inbox later sksksk). Since I have been bombarded with so many brainrots throughout April thanks to the OPMeg discord server, I don't know which AUs/story ideas to write about so it is poll time!

The explanations will be down below so you know the context of each choice.

SG Primes + Royal AU (Multichapter)

The fact that I haven't written anything for the original baseline of this AU is crazy but well it's my fault for liking Shattered Glass too much. So essentially, this is a Royal AU where the main four (OP, Megatron, Elita, and Bee) are children of the Primes - who are essentially ruling over Iacon. Sentinel does not betray them (at least in baseline because the baseline version of this AU is happy).

Unfortunately this is SG so it's the horror version. In this AU, the Primes are tyrants and the main four are still related to them. In this case, however, the High Guard actually plan to stage a coup. Plot twist though, instead of Megatron joining them, it's SG OP because in this AU. Megatron is kinda busy... being reprogrammed into being obedient by Primatronus. So OP wants to save him here.

Belobog AU (Multichapter)

So, as some people can probably tell from the profile picture, I really love Honkai Star Rail (and especially my wife, Bronya skskksks). Well, I am very delusional and when I was looking at Bronya and Seele's splash art, I was like... their color schemes are kinda like SG OPMeg hahaha. So yeah, this is fanfic is essentially inspired by the Belobog chapter in Honkai Star Rail.

Just to give a bit of idea, this is actually a bit of an off-shoot from the Sole Survivor Prima AU, since here Prima take the place of Cocolia. Prima here is the only baseline version, except he's corrupted by the Matrix and Primus (who replaces the Stellaron). In this case, Prima survives Sentinel's ambush attempt but Primus still stops energon from flowing to dissuade the Quintessons from attacking.

SG TFP AU (One-Shot)

So this one is not as fleshed out since there is only a certain scenario that I really want to write about. I briefly mentioned it within my multi-SG fanfic, but I like the idea that in SG TFP, Orion genuinely did get corrupted by the Matrix. However, when he got amnesia, he went back to being Orion. Still, Megatron couldn't really recognize him so he kinda sent him off the Nemesis.

Orion does become Optimus again, except this time he's in symbiosis with the Matrix, so he remembers everything now and is no longer corrupted. He wants to win the war here so he can ensure a world of peace and order for his conjunx. This one-shot is essentially just an exploration of what would happen if Optimus actually did win the war and captured Megatron afterwards.

Fliers as Vampires AU (One-Shot)

This is a bit of a silly idea but I love vampires so I thought what if the High Guard were all vampires since they're all fliers (I believe) in TFOne. This is also combined with the idea that the seekers were the original vampires and they essentially infected the rest of the High Guard when they were on the surface. The City of Vos also exists here and Starscream is the Winglord cause I think that would be cool.

So this is like a few years after the events of the movie in TF:One. Optimus is weirded out that Megatron "disappears" after he was banished with the High Guard and is informed about another city in Cybertron, which is Vos. Like they end up allying to defeat the Quintessons and when Optimus goes to visit that's when he meets a reformatted Megatron who has been turned into a flier.

TFOne Amnesia AU (One-Shot)

Nothing really elaborate, but I would just like to write an Amnesia AU for TFOne and I swear this time this is baseline and not SG lmao. So like you know, typical scenario, Megatron loses his memory and reverts back to D-16. Optimus finds him and decides to bring him back to Iacon. He's unable to really put him in jail so he just keeps him around even though he feels guilty about doing so.

However, since I am a bit of a sucker for possessive Optimus, he just does his best to essentially keep Dee from finding out he's Megatron and the leader of the Decepticons. Like he feels guilty essentially confining Dee and kinda taking away his agency, but Optimus just wants his best friend back, even if it means keeping him in this state. This will have consequences though lmao.

Vessel Prima AU (Multichapter)

Another off-shoot of the Sole Survivor Prima AU, because someone kept me up until 5:00 AM just because of this concept. So it's essentially the same thing with the Sole Survivor Prima AU, except in this case Prima isn't... just Prima. So the concept is, as the first Prime, Prima can actually hear Primus in his head and at times can be controlled by Primus.

In comparison to the original fanfic, in this AU, Orion didn't get invited to archive information about the Primes. Instead, he acts reckless about looking for information to the point that he ends up attracting Prima's attention, and therefore Prima finds out about Megatron through him. So they end up getting dragged by the High Guard and arrested lmao.

Sole Survivor Prima AU (Multichapter)

So I know I already wrote like two one-shots for this AU but I do genuinely want to write a fully-fleshed out fanfic for this (like having multiple chapters), so I can actually discuss more about the Primes as well as build up the horror lmao. So yeah, this is just an expansion upon the idea of the Sole Survivor Prima AU where I actually write more about Prima and D-16.

There's still some OPMeg here, however they're not the focus. I will be changing it from the original premise. In this new scenario, I am going back to the actual original version (of the first Megatron being related to Prima and Megatronus AU talked about in the OPMeg server), where Prima ends up finding Dee by accident cause I like Dee just dealing with the horror of that all on his own.

He doesn't dance much bc his legs hurt if he keeps putting pressure on it during too long, but you can definitely coarse him into dancing one or two.

Otherwise he just likes to watch you dance, even if you don't really know how to/are a lil bit clumsy. You look very happy dancing with your family/friends that he gets smitten all over again

He's kinda scarred for life once he saw kids breaking a piñata during one of your nephews' birthdays & un bolo during a baptism (where the hosts throw money so the guests could pick it up) (iykyk)

He started to watch telenovelas by mistake. Like maybe you were watching one or just putting it like white background noise while doing something else.

And at first he was like 🙄🙄🙄 "if the characters would do X thing or Z, this problem would be easily resolved/this problem wouldn't exist", and you tell him that it is for the 💥d r a m a💥

As it happened to the best of us when you're hanging out in the living room and your mom is watching a telenovela---Viktor just gets HOOKED. He doesn't know when it happened or how but he is invested

Sometimes you arrive home from a date with your friends and find Viktor and Jayce watching a telenovela on the couch

Only one: My multi-chapter rock band AU, Navarre Records Presents…

4. What was your favourite thing you wrote?

Oh man, this is so difficult. Even though, Navarre Records Presents… is my baby and first love, I absolutely adore my Solstice Exchange fic, Memories Consume. It was my first time writing in canon and I got to explore a few signet and venin theories as well as focus on two non-Riorgail ships (Imrrick and Brennaolin).

5. What piece was your most experimental or different from your usual style?

Definitely Memories Consume. Canon, Dragons, Magic, Smut… all of that was new for me when I wrote it 😁

6. Did any fics surprise you - either while writing or their reception?

Navarre Records Presents… It is the very first thing I ever published and I thought maybe five people would read it 😂

I also thought maybe it would have 10 chapters… but I just posted chapter 8 and these rock stars still have so much left to say 🥰

There are too many and I am sure I am going to miss some of my favorites either here or in the next answer but here goes… I will read absolutely anything posted by these awesome writers: @suebswrites (I think Just Ask was one of the first fanfics I ever read), @yanny-77 (the undisputed Queen of Comedy), @skyfallscotland (I never thought an OC would be my thing, but damn I love Remi), @justallihere (Storm in the Quiet was a masterpiece), @ubiquitouslyme (I think Here for the Video Games was my first time reading M/M smut and 🥵), and @caeli0306 (castles crumbling is so fun and VSGTSAS was 🧑🏻‍🍳💋)

10. Who is a new author you discovered?

There are so many writers from the RQ discord that just started writing fanfic this year (like me!) and we have so much fun playing with the same source material in very different ways… I have really loved reading and learning from @saranova, @tegantales @thoughtsaboutshows and @overjoyedisland

@lovemedarkly29 also gets a very special shout out because she not only wrote me an AMAZING Sloane/Aaric fic for the Solstice Exchange (Rewritten), but she then took the back-up idea that she had for me and made it into an amazing Violet/Liam fic (Use Somebody).

11. Did you do any collaborations? How did it start?

I have not collaborated, but I do have a wonderful beta, @june-s-pumpkins, who has made my writing better and gives me so many great suggestions that have resulted in some of my favorite lines 🫶🏻

12. What accomplishments are you proudest of?

Hitting post on my first chapter of Navarre Records Presents…

I never thought of myself as a creative person (my husband has always been the creative one!) and I guess I just needed the right inspiration (thank you Rebecca Yarros for writing such inspiring source material!).

13. What did you learn about writing or creating this year?

If you aren’t feeling inspired, go read or spitball silly things on discord or (for me at least) go for a run… inspiration will come and cannot be forced 🥰

14. Any advice you’d like to share with new or aspiring writers?

Write what sparks joy and trust that if you love it, there is likely an audience for it!

15. What are your creative goals for 2025?

Finish Navarre Records Presents… I have the main events outlined and would like to see the story fully come to life 🎸🎤🥁

Other than that, I really want to write more in canon… depending on what Onyx Storm brings us, either alternate POVs or, if I am feeling really inspired at the end of it, my own continuation story 😳

USS APERTURE: Not exactly Starfleets moral best, good people don't end up here. But her crew might very well be the best of the best. Headstrong, steadfast, and somehow still alive despite a few admirals wanting them gone, the APERTURE and her crew uphold their mission: to do what they must because they can!

Captain Cave Johnson -"somehow still captain" its Caroline pulling the strings keeping him in charge, and the fact he's willing to take on virtually any mission which makes him an asset worth keeping. -Fan of using the ships PA system, and is well regarded for his inspiring speeches. -Is still a competent captain, just too confident for his own good. Luckily, has a solid crew to back him up.

Commander Caroline Dubuk -An excellent first officer, regularly goes above and beyond (and blackmails a number of officials behind the scenes) for her crew. -Scarf was a present from her best friend after graduating the academy. Wears it regularly in spite of uniform regulations. -Parents split when she was a teenager. Dad married Gla'dos's mother. Neither of them really regard each other as step-siblings, and few even know their relationship with each other

Ensign Chell Redac -Not mute, but is a human of very, very few words. Few enough one would be forgiven for thinking she was. - Regularly pesters Gla'dos, who is the subject of most chaotic antics. Gla'dos is still finding potatoes in her quarters to this day. Chaos is just how Chell says "I like you!". -Determined and stubborn, could be an excellent officer someday.

Commander Gla'dos -Suffered a freak warp-core accident that scarred her and would have been career ending. Built her own prosthetics/enhancements with the help of some off the books Starfleet research. -Is a genius, was in engineering before switching to sciences. -Grew up on Earth in Michigan to a single mother, and is step-sister to Caroline though she does not talk about it

how to fish, the second fic i published in my return to writing in 2024!

1: What inspired you to write the fic this way?

the idea actually came from a brainstorm during writing the first draft of part one of my 'cars 4' series "PYBO": "The Practice Plan" <-currently an unedited 10k+ behemoth. i was taking a break from writing my two main characters (OC roger and LMQ) having a big argument and wanted to write something silly in the aftermath. so i started brainstorming in discord...

'car bearfishing' i made it the fuck up. like "how does a car go fishing?? hell if i know. it'd be funny if they just bit them right out of the water like freaks." and i just wound up writing it for joy and whimsy. this was all around the time i decided to really lean into the 'racecars is creatures' headcanon. 'how to fish' was actually a really big step for me because it's a little weird- which is exactly the sort of thing i want to be writing. i need to get much weirder, actually. it also is one of my first attempts at 'writing to explain the larger headcanon' [aka doing worldbuilding]. most of my fics take a small aspect of the 'feral racers hc' and sort of spotlight it. i was also figuring out writing 3rd person limited present, which is the other part of the inspiration. i'd tried so often in the past to write fic but as it turns out, my brain clashes BADSTYLE with past-tense and i was simply Nottttt grasping what 'character perspective' really meant + how to use it. 'how to fish' is definitely part of that early triumph in learning where i'm strongest/most comfortable. and it's very very fun!! apparently present tense isn't for everyone, but it translates the "movielike" image i see in my head to the page seamlessly. i actually wrote the last little scene first and went back to write about the prior events second!

8: Did any real people or events inspire any part of it?

i grew up going to the beach a bunch. not a fan of the ocean, but i always find being outdoors to be so peaceful. i'll complain about the sand being irritating, but damn i'll be relaxed on that beach. i love Cars fanfic as a vessel to 'tour' the continental united states (points at the apocalypse au, which is just one extended road trip). fireball beach feels like a place i've been to a hundred times. (in retrospect i could have done a much better job conveying this, i don't even think i mentioned the Wind, lol. but cars is my little playground/gym for my writing muscles and nothing is perfect. i have a few other beachside plotbunnies lurking tho, so perhaps next time.) there's def more inspo that went into this fic but i found i wasn't great at explaining it. its more of a background radiation of Vibes rather than any direct draw.

When did you post your first piece? May 26, 2020 (Dec 7, 2014 was my OG post on ff.net haha)

Do you write fluff/angst/crack/general/smut, combo, etc? Why? I write fluff, angst (lots), and sometimes crack. While I can rec some awesome smuts, I don’t feel comfortable writing explicit smut as of yet, although I will elude to some smexy time. I do have a WIP that I will one day write that will definitely include smut because it’s part of the story.

Do you write OCs, X Readers, Ships...etc? I have some OG OCs and my starter fics on Tumblr were third-person female reader. However, recent works include x you (reader) and I find that really fun and easier to write! I don’t really write any ships for Kpop.

Why did you decide to write for Tumblr? Having read so many awesome works on Tumblr made me want to write and hopefully have other readers experience the same feelings I do when I read that great piece. However, my original goal was just to write for Monsta X since there aren’t a whole lot of fics for them but also because I have too many ideas running in my mind. Lastly, I just write for myself.

What inspires you to write? The groups I write for, other things I read (like mangas and/or shows), and especially songs!

What genres/AUs do you enjoy writing the most? I write best fluff for established relationships because otherwise it’s all just angst, which is a lot of fun to write while keeping it not too toxic unless stated otherwise for plot. I also love silly fics for giggles. As for Au’s I enjoy regular day to day life with a spin or fantasy based Au’s.

What do you hope your readers take away from your work? I hope they just feel a strong emotion - depending on the genre. I hope that they get to the end and find all the nuances I try to sprinkle throughout the story hinting to clues or plot devices. That’s always what I try to aim for.

What do you do when you hit a rough spot creatively? Cry. Jokes aside, I take a break/breather to refocus and take time for myself. I also read professional works to take my mind off things or get inspired. 

What is your favorite work and why? Your most successful? My personal favorite of my published works would be my Han Jisung x reader, Promise. It was my first kpop fic and a gift to my friend. I think it’s a hallmark of my return to writing and I look forward to publishing more of my favorite plots! My most successful is Spiderling, a Jeon Jungkook x reader fic, not surprised at all that my first official BTS fic would be the most popular one of my current works haha.

Who is your favorite person to write about? Honestly, I have so many ideas for Changkyun haha. I feel like he’s totally boyfriend material and can fit different roles from a total fratboy to a soft boyfriend. But I’m trying to expand both my writing and pairings and it’s a fun challenge to write for the different boys.

Do you think there’s a difference between writing fanfiction vs. completely original prose? I actually do! In my honest opinion, fanfiction is work about an already established character/person/universe. It’s easier for me to think up ideas for characters already prepped because I personally get lost in the details already of thinking up terms/universes to place the story in. I have a character that’s already established and people know about without having to elaborate on those finer details.

What do you think makes a good story? Proper formatting goes a long way. While I don’t judge on grammar and spelling mistakes, it is a much smoother read if people follow basic narrative-writing skills. I feel like anyone who can embody their own style and ideas (without being discriminatory or mean), then they’ve really got me hooked.

What is your writing process like? A mess. I know a lot of people outline, and I try that sometimes. But, normally I just get straight into writing what I’ve brainstormed, maybe adding some notes for future events here and there. If I get tied up at a certain part, I make a messy line break and start another scene.

Would you ever repurpose a fic into a completely original story? Yes. Funnily enough though, I repurpose my original storylines for fics, but if I could, I would write an original story.

What tropes do you love, and what tropes can’t you stand? I can’t stand cliches but I WILL cry over them if they’re well-written and/or have a spin on them. So, ultimately I’m down for anything. Enemy to lovers isn’t always my favorite but @gukyi​ does a great job, since that’s her renowned trope.

How much would you say audience feedback/engagement means to you? A lot! I have a few lovely mootz that always have something nice to say, but I would love more reader interaction! Of course, I’m a newer writer and haven’t blown up so it is to be expected that I’m a little lonely right now. I hope that’s not a long-term thing.

What has been one of the biggest factors of your success (of any size)? Who I write for. I hate to be blunt about it, but certain members and/or groups truly are more popular which is a shame at times. Plus, interacting with more mootz and authors as well as joining discord chats and networks helps by meeting new people who will interact with you and your content.

Do you think fanfic writers get unfairly judged? Yes, at times and with certain topics. We all know people will go on anon and tear anyone down for whatever reason.

Do you think art can be a medium for change? Definitely! Writing for the public,(especially fanfic and reader-based fics) especially in these times, means you have to adapt and adhere to the ever-changing times. We have a role to play in how people perceive things, whether that’s regarding an IRL person or how we view others with representation.

Do you ever feel there are times when you’re writing for others, rather than yourself? Huh, as of now, I feel like I’m writing for myself. Without a lot of interaction, I don’t feel pressure. I do want to write for other groups, but as of now I’m trying to pick up speed with certain groups. I have a lot of WIPs, so we will see where I end up.

Do you ever feel like people have misunderstood you or your writing at times? Not that I know of, haha.

Do your offline friends/loved ones know you write for Tumblr? No, haha.

What is one thing you wish you could tell your followers? I love you!

Do you have any advice for aspiring writers who might be too scared to put themselves out there? Don’t be afraid! It’s scary, but the worst that can happen is not writing!

Are there any times when you regret joining Tumblr? HAahaha, only because the site’s interaction roles have drastically dropped and a lot of the features suck. But the people I’ve met… priceless. I love them all and a lot have impacted my life so positively.

AU where Ferris and Halt actually get along

This au was inspired by the lovely people on the discord, @rangerpippin and @smug-albatross.

Basically, Ferris and Halt talk things out and Ferris doesn't try to murder his brother for the throne.

When Halt was seven years old, it was the first time he expressed that he didn’t want to become the king of Hibernia. His parents laughed it off and told him that he was just being silly, that of course he wants to be the king. Who wouldn’t want to be the king? Halt’s brother just narrowed his eyes and took note of what his twin brother had said. Over the years, as he and his brother grew up together, Ferris grew resolute in his belief that he should be king and not Halt. Halt didn’t enjoy learning the ins and outs of court. He didn’t enjoy pouring over papers containing agricultural policies for the incoming year. If Ferris was being honest, Halt didn’t seem to enjoy much of anything about the royal life. In a different universe, this idea in Ferris would fester and grow wicked. Ferris and his brother would grow apart over the years, with Ferris almost committing one of the most grave sins, fratricide, which resulted in Halt never becoming king and leaving. Ferris would become king, but wouldn’t see his brother for decades after, right before Ferris’ death. However, in this universe, Ferris talks to his brother about his feelings instead of letting them consume him.

    At age 13, after 6 years of staying relatively silent about his fate, Halt complains to Ferris that he doesn’t want the throne and that if he could give Ferris the throne, he would. This moment is what changes everything. The seed of an idea is planted in both of their minds that won’t bloom until years later. Instead of simply seeing himself as the best candidate for the throne, Ferris sees how miserable Halt would be on the throne and Ferris feels sympathy for his older brother. Halt doesn’t know how he has changed his life by uttering that sentence.

    After 3 years of trying to fight their parents on the issue of succession, Ferris and Halt sit down together in their room and talk things out fully for the first time in their lives. Halt is the eldest twin, but wants nothing to do with the throne. Ferris is second in line and, honestly, is the better choice for the throne at this point. Ferris is ambitious, but he does care for his country deeply and actually enjoys court politics. Halt loves Hibernia but knows he can do so much more outside of the life of royalty. Also, Halt cannot stand to willingly be around stuffy nobles even if his life depended on it. He had threatened to throw several members of nobility, including himself on one memorable occasion, in the moat.

Halt tells Ferris about all of his misgivings and Ferris remembers Halt’s genuine offer when they were thirteen. Ferris asks Halt if he really meant what he said when he offered Ferris the throne and Halt says yes. At this point, the brothers remember that they are, indeed, identical twins. They come up with the exact same idea at the exact same time. Halt can’t actually give Ferris his spot on the throne, but Halt can give the throne to Ferris. They’ll switch places. They are identical after all, so there’s no chance that someone will figure out that they switched places. Then they realize that they are identical but they have massively different personalities. Halt tends to be more morose about his duties, while Ferris was more enthusiastic and a people person. Their parents would notice for sure if “Halt” suddenly started to embrace his kingly duties and if “Ferris” stopped trying to actively throw himself into Hibernian politics. This puts a damper on their enthusiasm until their younger sister, Caitlyn pops up from under their bed, listening into their heart to heart.

“Just pretend to have a fight where Ferris is really sad that he doesn’t get to be king and Halt, just pretend to have a reluctant change of heart and slowly get more enthusiastic about it. After, like, two weeks, you two can switch and no one will ever know.”

Ferris and Halt looked at each other. This was the best idea they had ever heard. They weren’t even mad that Caitlyn had been eavesdropping in on their conversation. She had just solved all of their problems.

“Wait, so I wouldn’t be the king legally?” asked Ferris. Caitlyn and Halt rolled their eyes.

“Ferris, you just came up with a plan that will allow you and Halt to fulfill your life long dreams and you’re questioning it? Plus, you and Halt have never cared about whether things have been legal or not.” She wasn’t wrong. Halt and Ferris had been the terror of several castle workers, from whom they kept stealing sweets and hiding priceless heirlooms in unfindable places when they were younger. Now, breaking the law really would benefit them.

The rest of the night was spent going over the plan and the minute details. Caitlyn had started to yawn around midnight and headed back to her room, but Halt and Ferris just kept talking through until dawn about the plan and everything else in their lives. They hadn’t talked like brothers in years and while Halt hadn’t said what he was going to do once he was “Ferris”, Ferris had a sneaking suspicion that he wouldn’t see Halt for a long time. The brothers agreed to start their plan tomorrow and to ease their way into each other’s personality.

The next morning, Halt actually said good morning to their parents. He noticed that the King gave the Queen a surprised glance, but did not say anything. Ferris slid onto the bench without a word and gave short answers to every question he was asked. The rest of the week progressed easily. Halt and Ferris faked an argument where Halt “realized” the importance of his duties and decided to accept his fate which made Ferris upset that he would never get the throne. Halt paid more attention in his classes and Ferris tried his best to replicate Halt’s ability and love for the bow and arrow while avoiding as many people as he possibly could. The King and Queen were overjoyed that Halt was finally paying attention to his lessons and vowed to talk to Ferris later to ease the pain of not being king.

The next week, Halt and Ferris made the switch. Caitlyn helped as much as she could, distracting their parents and the staff away from Halt and Ferris. It was a good thing that she did because while Halt and Ferris were identical twins and knew each other very well, there were still little mistakes. Halt grabbed his favorite breakfast that Ferris happened to hate one morning and a kitchen worker gave him an odd look. Ferris accidently put on his armor instead of Halt’s and had to fend off questions about it all during training. Slowly, the mistakes became less common and soon no one could have told that the princes had almost been exactly the opposite of their personalities half a year ago.

8 months after their switch, Halt approached Ferris and told his brother that “Ferris” needed to die. Ferris was shocked but Halt explained everything. He had met a fabled ranger from Araluen who was willing to train him, but didn’t know who exactly Halt was, and Halt felt like that was where he was supposed to go. Plus, Halt explained, with “Ferris” gone, there would be less chance of people finding out that Ferris was “Halt”. It made sense, in a sad way. So the brothers (and Caitlyn, they couldn’t leave her out of this final scheme) sat down for one last time and planned the last part of their big deception.

It was a cold, misty morning when Halt and Ferris walked down to the riverbed. Halt had already said his goodbye to Caitlyn in private. It was just Ferris and Halt left. They got onto the boat together, making sure someone saw the two of them sail off. Only one of them would come back.

A ways down the river, Ferris took his hand off the ropes and turned to face Halt. Halt stared back, looking deep into his soul. The brothers had nothing left to say to each other, but they knew everything had already been said. Halt pulled Ferris into a hug, surprising his brother. They hugged and smiled, bittersweet, at each other. After the embrace stopped, Halt dove into the icy water and waded to the riverbank to start his new life. Ferris tossed Halt’s pack to him on the mossy bank. As he picked it up, Ferris thought about the diplomatic papers that gave Halt diplomatic immunity from the kingdom of Hibernia. They had agreed that Halt could keep his name if he was in a different country than Ferris. Halt had given Ferris the chance to follow his dreams and now Ferris would be able to repay his brother.

The three siblings stayed in touch over the years, writing letters in code and meeting in small towns occasionally when King Halt went on a trip and Halt could sneak away from the Corps for a few days. Once Halt got an apprentice, the visits became non-existent but the letters only increased.

No one ever found out their secret. The only person who ever came close was Morgarath. Halt was, generously put, an unusual name in Hibernia and the rest of the world. So when Morgarath met Halt and learned that his name was Halt and he was indeed Hibernian, something clicked in Morgarath’s brain. He knew there was a connection between this mysterious ranger from Hibernia named Halt and the prince of Hibernia, also named Halt, he just didn’t know how they were connected. Morgarath became very busy quickly after that meeting and never really pursued the connection between the two men. If he did, he would have heard about the tragic and slightly suspicious death of Prince Ferris of Hibernia and how his older brother was with him when he died in a boating accident.  

Halt, in this universe, is almost exactly the same except for a few key differences. This Halt knows that people in power can be terrible, but he also knows that people can be given chances. He knows that he has a family who loves him back home, and because of this knowledge, Halt opens up to people more. He’s still suspicious, still hates talking to people, and grumpy, but he isn’t alone.

Ferris, in this universe, is a good king. The love of his brother allowed him to keep a clear head and his sister was always by his side, ready to keep him on track when he faltered. His ambition serves him well and the kingdom of Clonmel prospers for several years until there are several years of bad crops that were completely unpredictable. A fellow named Tennyson starts causing trouble in Hibernia and Halt volunteers to be the ranger to go and stop him, along with the help of Will and Horace. Tennyson is trying to blackmail King Halt with the suspicious death of Prince Ferris and Ferris thinks that it is best to call Halt in and take care of things.

Halt doesn’t find it necessary to tell everyone that his brother is the king of Hibernia that is having trouble. King Duncan kind of knows because Araluen and Hibernia had diplomatic meetings several years back and while Halt was able to wriggle his way out of being in the country for those meetings, Duncan still figured that something was up. Ferris had shaved his beard just for that meeting to throw everyone off but Pauline, Crowley, and Duncan knew something was up. The king just looked too much like Halt to be coincidence. They confront Halt, thinking that he is the long thought dead Prince Ferris and that King Halt had tried to kill him and Halt took his name out of spite, which is a very Halt thing to do. Halt can honestly tell them that he is not Prince Ferris. They then ask why he looks exactly like King Halt and he just repeats that he is not Prince Ferris. Pauline realizes it a second before Duncan and Crowley do. They all go crazy. They cannot believe that Halt is the real king of Hibernia and that he and his twin brother have been pulling the wool over everyone’s eyes for literal decades. Pauline can’t believe that Halt kept his name. He’s like “It would have been suspicious if a mysterious Hibernian named Ferris showed up at the same time the Hibernian prince died. It’s less suspicious if I was named Halt. Also, Halt is a much cooler name.” Duncan is losing his mind in the background, because, no it’s not less suspicious to have the exact same name as the Hibernian king who had a long lost twin brother who died around the same time you appeared. Crowley is just thanking his lucky stars that Morgarath never found out that Halt was the twin brother to the Hibernian king.

Will and Horace do not know however, and once they get to Hibernia, are very alarmed at Halt acting even more suspicious than usual. His hood is pulled way down on his face and his face is dirtier than usual. When they get to the castle, Will is expecting to have to pull out his ranger papers and present them to the guards but Halt just mutters a phrase to the guards and the trio is let into the castle without a word and led into secret room adjoining the throne room. Will and Horace are super confused and apprehensive, especially when the king of clonmel throws open the door, striding up to Halt with a frown on his face. Halt and the king, who looks exactly like Halt, stare each other down for a few seconds before both break down into smiles and laughter while hugging each other. Will and Horace are doubly confused. A few seconds later, a woman comes barreling through the doors and tackles Halt in a hug. The king joins the two of them and Will and Horace are freaking out in the background. The hugging stops and Halt explains the situation but really badly so Will and Horace only have the barest idea of why this is happening. Halt still has to disguise himself as Ferris and the siblings find it darkly hilarious that Halt has to pretend to be himself. Halt’s beard is still cut with a saxe knife but since Ferris doesn’t feel so much like a fraud in this universe, Halt does not have to rub soot in his hair. Sean is introduced to his uncle Halt for the first time that he can remember. Halt and Sean walk out of the cloak room and Sean is almost crying, he is so overwhelmed. Actually, everyone is crying.

     [ So due to life being a TOTAL MESS these last several weeks, I actually managed to miss a rather important date last week...that being the fourth anniversary of Ryū and I RPing on Tumblr! It’s weird, it both feels like it’s been longer, and shorter...but! To celebrate, I thought we’d do a little shout-out to the peeps who have stuck around the longest, interacted the most, and overall just made these past four years as fun as they have been. 

     Sadly very few of our original partners remain, but we’ve gained and lost many over the past four years! Multiverse Sans Update v1.4.0 – Milestone Reached!

Wow! Over a year of development, and this project’s still goin’ strong! :D

This project originally launched December 13, 2017 as essentially a shitpost named sexy_sans. The project was later renamed to better fit the project goals, and re-released as Multiverse Sans on February 2, 2018. It’s been an entire year since Multiverse Support was added, with 4 shells available at release. 

It was overwhelming at first, because I hadn’t planned on multiverse support so soon. Over time, I got more comfortable with handling multiple shells, and I got inspired by @invertedfate AU, adding the lieutenant a week or so after binging on the comic.

I tentatively opened submissions for new AU shells and the highest demand AU was Horrortale, an AU I’m not personally invested in, but many people love dearly. Ymuy of @underchangeau made the shell for us, and I was glad to have a friend help prototype the shell submissions process. 

Since then, I realized I needed to complete Shell Revamps to make adding new AUs more streamlined, and due to @underfellfangame‘s silly Ink vs. Error competition I got inspired to start on beloved Ink!Sans shell, which has been the guiding force behind my exploration of complex shell work. 

We’ve really come a long ways with development on all fronts, and the next year’s slated for a ton of content too! 

You can check the Dev Plan for all that’s been added thus far, along with future plans. MVSans has suffered from a lack of proper documentation of existing content due to the amount content that’s been added, which I aim to address. I’ll have a post detailing how everything works in the next couple weeks!

Pickup lines exchanged with Sans will vary based on what he thinks of you, and how many pickup lines you’ve shared with him. Naughty endearments, and Horror!Sans endearments, have a lot more variety!

A few people have mentioned missing the “Thank Sans” menu function menu option that was deprecated due to balance issues. @riot-of-the-century​ brought up a very valid point of usage about thanking him after he offers advice. It has been re-incorporated into the Advice (Sweet) Trait Menu Function, so you can thank Sans for hearing you out.

So if you have any ideas or feature requests, don’t be afraid to send ‘em! I listen and always respond. Even if I can’t directly use your idea, it still communicates what kind of content you wanna see and I could implement the concept through my existing plans. 

Also big thanks to Ymuy of @underchangeau for making the Horror!Sans shell, he’s quickly become a favorite of many users! And thank you Dorked of @invertedfate AU for allowing me to make a shell of your AU Sans! I know you’re pretty protective of your creations so it’s an honor to have him allowed on the roster. I’ve never been so excited for an AU like I have been with IF!

AMA Transcript: Pell Grant Matrimony

This weekend, @marshofsleep, @sojustifiable (known as Amanda on Discord), @adorabbey and @tilliquoi braved yesterday's Discordacolypse in order to chat about their 2016 Resbang, Pell Grant Matrimony! Here's some of what went down:

Q: Please, give us a rundown of how this was conceived.

sleepmarshes:

sleepmarshes: It's almost been an entire year. We've lived with this sin for 11 months. Right, so, like, there was that tumblr post going around about how a bro realized he could help another bro out since gay marriage became legal, and they could get a green card. So my thought was, of course, this is Soul and (somebody).

Amanda: I believe this was the tweet marsh referenced when she first described the initial idea to me before we were collabing on it:

sleepmarshes: So, the setup would be Maka meets Soul and of course they hit it off because this is why we came here. But it turns out Soul is married.

sleepmarshes: Then we decided B* would be the best choice. He would be ultra gung ho about PDA. THEN, Amanda started signing up for financial aid, and she was like hey, what if we do it like this instead of green card? And then BAM, COLLEGE AU. Then it became a game of how many tropes, cliches, and memes we could pile in.

Amanda: And then when I was signing up for financial aid I also saw this post and was like hey alternate motivation: http://zhuy-doodles.tumblr.com/post/144803762284. How we ended up collabing and doing it for real was that I was talking to marsh about how I wasn't sure if I was going to do resbang or not, and that if i was, I wanted to do something silly. And she was like, hey you should do that thing I told you about. And I was like I can't do that, it's your thing. And she was like oh we can collab and then we made a blood pact.

sleepmarshes: Now we are borg.

Adorabear: Amanda, marsh, and I did a minecraft FRAND ritual. Very legit.

Q: How did the collab work?

sleepmarshes: At the time, I was busy with house building stuff and other things, so I knew I wasn't going to be able to help a whole lot.

Amanda: I imagine it works differently for different people but ours was a Process. When we discussed collabing we pretty much decided I would do the bulk of the writing while marsh would act as helicopter mom with plotting and everything.

sleepmarshes: HELICOPTER MOM omg. It me.

Amanda: So we plotted together and marsh would be like hey I know this is a joke but we need actual character motivation and shiz and then I started cranking out words. And then marsh trailed behind me, editing and making parts funnier and more coherent and filling in the scenes I was really struggling with.

sleepmarshes: She trucked right on man, just huge chunks. Well, I also kept throwing stupid ideas at you.

Q: Who came up with my daughter snappy, and also, how do you feed an alligator on student budget?

sleepmarshes: We don't talk about the budget.

Amanda: So once upon a time, I sent marsh this meme:

sleepmarshes: How DID that happen? This is clearly America.

Amanda: Just as a joke, I was like haha look at this meme and she was like fake gay fic??

sleepmarshes: I don't remember this but I believe it 100%.

Amanda: And I was like, not my intention, but okay, I can roll with it, they have an alligator now. Gained through some vague but nefarious means.

sleepmarshes: Snappy*Star. I think we decided [she was] smuggled from Disney World? I regret not making the epilogue about [Black*Star's] TV show.

Amanda: Yeah there were some interesting epilogue plans for when Snappy got too big to keep in an apartment. Black*Star was gonna have a TV show with Snappy I think on exotic pet care or maybe like, exercising with your pet. Just picture like, 3 years from the end of the fic, Soul and Maka are hanging out and turn on the TV to see the two of them.

Q for the artists: What inspired your arting decisions?

Adorabear: So I knew I'd do drinks, and wanted to do nail art (after getting a lot of encouragment from the resbang discord). I did some trial runs of the nail art shortly after the Resbang matchmaking.

Q: What inspired Queen Wes?

Amanda: Queen Wes appeared out of nowhere when I was writing the last 15k in three days and was in a delirious state of confusion.

Q: How did you two like collabing? Did it work well?

Amanda: I had a blast and think the collabing probably went better than either of us could've expected.

sleepmarshes: Oh yeah def. I've been terrfied to collab for years.

Amanda: Like, it ended up being even more collaborative with merging our writing styles so we just got this monster of laughs out of it. Tbh I was surprised that marsh even suggested collabing cuz I didn't think she did collabs.

sleepmarshes: I DON'T do collabs, but I get along with you so well I figured well, if anything'll work, it'll probably be this. Actually, Amanda did a lot of work on the timeline.

Amanda: More like I did a lot of work harrassing Marsh about the timeline because I need things to be linear.

sleepmarshes: Yeah I'm definitely not that.

Amanda: Let me pull up some parts of the outline for posterity. These are the kinds of notes Marsh makes in the outline:

Q: Why Harvar with Wes? I think it was hilarious.

sleepmarshes: Uhhh well we knew we wanted Wes to hit on DTK. Why DID we hook him up with Harv? Just because Harv has put up with his shit for so long and won't leave him?

Amanda: We hooked him up with Harv because you love Harv and love shipping everyone with everyone else.

sleepmarshes: Ok this is probably true.

Amanda: Other random add in about shipping cuz I forgot we had another pm chatlog and found where we were discussing possible ships and I have this quote from marsh's shipping habits:

sleepmarshes: Can confirm, this is my hobby.

Q: Was there a line or joke or meme that made either of you legit laugh out loud when you realized it fit/it ended up in there?

sleepmarshes: Probably every meme we came into contact with?

Adorabear: Amanda and Marsh are basically the people on the date shoving all the breadsticks in their purse, but the breadsticks are memes. And their purse is overflowing, and they're going into the Olive Garden kitchen to get more breadstick memes.

Amanda: I think there was a lot of coming up with ridiculous lines and then having the other be like "wtf is wrong with you that's hilarious."

sleepmarshes: Yes, exactly that. As for drummer DTK....

Amanda: That was another last minute thing. We knew he was a math metal head but then I was like lol what if he shows up as a guest in the music festival?

sleepmarshes: ROFL when you said that I thought well man, if you wanna write it go for it. And then when I caught up to it for edits even I was surprised. I was like FUCK YEA.

Q: Did you guys have a playlist?

sleepmarshes: I didn't have a fic-specific one, personally. I think I was mostly listening to the Macabre Records mix and maybe a Sufjan Stevens album.

Amanda: I also didn't have any specific writing music, being a musician also I find music pretty distracting so the only music I can write to is if it blends together well and is really cohesive and doesn't have any distracting vocals. Hey, I was listening to Sufjan too. Carrie and Lowell.

sleepmarshes: SAME HAT oh I had uhhh. A Sun Came.

Amanda: And maybe some Seven Swans and some old Bon Iver and Iron and Wine sometimes. But basically I need a specific ambient music to write to as opposed to anything relevant.

sleepmarshes: There was a lot of dialogue in this fic, so I needed some chill stuff towards the end.

Q: Did you guys find any characters really challenging to write?

Amanda: I can't write DTK at all so I needed a lot of Marsh intervention in that camp.

sleepmarshes: DTK is uhhh very polite 'I care nothing about what you just said, let me do what i came here to do.' How happy do you expect goth burberry to be? Despite all that, he's got squishy innards [and] four smile muscles. I had Wes issues so his flamboyancy got a lot of help from Amanda.

Amanda: I turned Wes into a monster. Marsh did most of the bbq scene cuz I was quite stuck in the middle of it and wanted to keep steamrollering ahead.

sleepmarshes: We always knew Wes would be obnoxious but I was watching a lot of beauty gurus on YouTube at the time and like... stuff... happened.

Q: Does Tsubaki continue to be a badass pilates instructor after the story ends? Does B* continue to go to her classes? Q: DO THEY BECOME PARTNERS EVENTUALLY?

sleepmarshes: Maybe they can have a workout show together with Snappy the mascot.

Amanda: B* continues to be a big fan of her workout stuff and they're swolebuds.

Q: How goes Patti's Etsy?

sleepmarshes: She's always in business the more Snappy grows.

Amanda: I think we had another potential future ending in which Patti adopts Snappy and cares for her at a wildlife refuge when she gets too big. There were quite a few potential futures for the different people, especially as we were still playing shipping roulette.

Q: Is it really that easy to get divorced in America?

Amanda: Yes, at least as far as I'm aware. If it's not, then we're going with suspension of disbelief.

sleepmarshes: I mean, as long as both sides want it and no one raises a fuss, yeah no one cares.

Q: Why continue to call Kid 'Morty' instead of Kid?

sleepmarshes: Oh, man, idk, college AU with a guy named Death? I couldn't do it.

Amanda: Like, Kid isn't a name and if it's his stage name people wouldn't probably call him that all the time.

sleepmarshes: Bonus: Shinidaddy calling him Junior.

Amanda: Even with B* it's definitely a nickname, we just decided to go off the walls with his actual name. Like, what if instead of being Blake we call him something ridiculous?

Q: Does Blair ever give up the panty thieving?

sleepmarshes: Actually I had wanted that last sock Blair stole to actually belong to DTK, and he was going to find out at the festival, but I totally forgot. Disgruntled DTK with only one sock... chance missed.

Amanda: Just one of those things that slipped through the cracks in the last three days of screaming.

Q: How did Stein and Spirit move the car?

sleepmarshes: I don't know, I always figured Spirit just annoyed the heckie out of everyone in between parking spaces.

Amanda: I wanted to leave it ambiguous just to leave it like... how the fuck did they do that? Cuz they had to get the people to switch spots with them anyway, but then also had to get everyone to move to let them through too.

Same Q: What inspired your arting decisions?

tilliquoi: Hmmm well for Soul and Maka at the mailboxes, I liked it bc shark slippers and bc that was when they first met. And I drew Snappy and Wes just bc they're both fabulous and I couldnt resist.

Amanda: Both the showstealers of the fic.

Q: How did you make those pieces? What programs/materials did you use?

tilliquoi: They're all digital and done in photoshop. It's the only program i really use anymore.

Q: What made you go: Yes. That. This is the fic I want in the first place?

sleepmarshes: YEAH, I WANNA KNOW, TOO.

Adorabear: For me, I was looking for things that I knew I could make drinks for and uh, yeah, it looked fun af, and I like silly af shit.

tilliquoi: Well, last year I was an artist for another Marsh fic, coincidentally, and that one was a lot more serious. It was amazing but this year I wanted to go for something fun and ridiculous as a change of pace. When I read the summary for Pell Grant I was just thinking that I'd probably end up laughing the whole time, so I was like "that one. thats the fic I gotta art for."

sleepmarshes: When your claim came in I laughed SO HARD.

tilliquoi: Yeah it was pretty funny finding out you were one of the authors.

sleepmarshes: She had no idea I was involved.

Amanda: Marsh messaged me like "lol guess who claimed us" but wouldn't tell me until it was official.

Adorabear: Amanda and I were talking about my list, and she was in my Google doc watching me make my pics, watching me eliminate stuff.

Amanda: I was screaming inside because I couldn't let her know it was me.

sleepmarshes: We were both dying.

Adorabear: The joys of anon claiming, I guess.

Q: What are you guys' next projects?

Amanda: Uhhhh I should probably finish Strangers... but I've been focusing more on writing music lately and taking a break from fic, and then I have a couple back burner fics that I won't go into cuz I haven't decided if they'll be for a Resbang or not. Potential original fantasy story also, but I think working on more music is really gonna be the focus while I'm finishing school.

sleepmarshes: Strangers hype. I'm working on Quantum Entanglement, and intend on finishing Lodestar. Probably no Resbang ficcing for me this year, because I want to finish some fics and work on an original novel.

Adorabear: I'm not going to Reverb this year, but I think I'll Resbang art next year.

Q: Did you all ever have to reign each other in? Like were there moments you had to go whoa whoa whoa too much, too far, time to say when?

sleepmarshes: Uhm I think we were just a cycle of enabling, tbh.

Amanda: Confirmed: no reigning in nonsense, only enabling more and more batshit insanity.

Q: Anything not make the cut?

sleepmarshes: I think stuff that didn't make the cut were things we ran out of time for, since a large part of it was written in the last three days. Like I wanted Wes to have an obsession with cinnabon. I think there was more bean warfare.

Q: How did everyone, writers and artists, feel like they grew/changed/learned during the resbang season?

sleepmarshes: I think overall I learned there are more ways of collaborating in writing than I had thought. Like, I thought there was only some way with magical hand holding sentence by sentence and somehow no one committed murder. But like, we just delegated roles, she did the bulk of it, I did invasive betaing, and we talked in discord a lot about junk.

Amanda: I think my growth was just it being the first time I ever wrote that much in a short period of time. Like the last three days were crazy, but I didn't have any problems micromanaging cuz I was fine with just being like "yolo just make this better", for a murder free experience.

sleepmarshes: I was so worried at first about hurting your writing feelings. But then you were like JUST EDIT IT DON'T SUGGEST 200 THINGS.

Amanda: I don't have any writing feelings. JUST FIX IT MARSH MAKE IT BETTER. I'M WRITING AS FAST AS POSSIBLE WITHOUT THINKING ABOUT ANYTHING I KNOW QUALITY IS SPOTTY.

sleepmarshes: After that it was just prancing through a field of yolo.

Amanda: I think both our collaboration and our friendship was helped severely by the fact that I don't have control issues or take anything personally, so invasive betaing was no sweat.

tilliquoi: I think if I learned anything or grew from this, it was in experimenting with coloring styles, particularly with that Wes drawing. That was pretty far out of my comfort zone in terms of how I usually color, but it made me a LOT less afraid to use excessive colors in places I wouldnt normally.

sleepmarshes: I had Wes open on all three monitors while I was editing. This is what it's like to have Wes on every channel:

Adorabear: I think for me, it was just a lot of confidence building in terms of my artwork, because I have been really nervous [about whether] my authors are going to like what I do, or [whether] they'll think I've done enough. I'm just a worrier.

sleepmarshes: Did you get ultra fast at cross stitch? Because that's certainly what it looked like.

Adorabear: I think I just motored through that one. I guess I have gotten faster. But I was like, in beast mode for that one. I am very pleased with it, though.

sleepmarshes: I love it.

Adorabear: Anyway, I think I feel more confident that the things I make are ~enough.~
