Volodymyr Zelenskyy deserves all the accolades he’s received this year. 🇺🇦
At the beginning of 2022 Volodymyr Zelenskyy may have been best known outside Ukraine as the unfortunate second party on Donald Trump’s 2019 “perfect phone call”. His approval ratings were in the mid to low 20s and Ukraine was thought to be in serious danger of being overrun by Russia.
But just as Winston Churchill rose to the occasion during the Battle of Britain, President Zelenskyy mobilized and united Ukraine in a way few thought possible when Russia invaded on February 24th. Not only is Ukraine still there, it is gradually pushing Putin’s drunken mercenary convicts back to Russia.
The night the invasion began, Zelenskyy released a video of himself and other high ranking officials in the government district of Kyiv to show Ukrainians and the world that they were in the capital and prepared to defend the country against Putin’s invaders.
youtube
All through the war Zelenskyy has worked tirelessly to boost morale at home and seek support from abroad. He has been remarkably successful at both.
President Zelenskyy has harnessed the ingenuity and determination of Ukrainians who together have averted national annihilation and deeply humiliated Putin in the process.
Zelenskyy has not just united Ukrainians but has also united Western democracies. NATO had been getting frayed, largely because of Donald Trump doing the bidding of Vladimir Putin. Now, NATO is stronger than ever and is even expanding. Democracies outside the NATO region such as Australia and Japan have joined in their support of Ukraine.
Russia wanted to wipe out Ukraine as an entity. Instead Ukrainian identity is more solid and distinctive than ever. Ukraine’s flag is now highly recognizable by people all over the world.
youtube
Volodymyr Zelenskyy has been the extraordinary leader which an extraordinary country needed at its darkest hour.

I went through the notes collecting screenshots of things that jumped out to me
Posts that were too long to be screenshotted: link 1, link 2
The history of the Disney company is so fucking fascinating and complicated that I could spend the rest of my life studying it.
I hate the company. I love the media. I want it to burn. I was profoundly shaped as a person by some of the art its workers have produced. It's evil. It's beautiful. It's an eldritch horrorterror personified as a charismatic mouse. It's a nightmarish example of capitalist hell. It destroys as much as it creates. It's a flaming trainwreck. I can't look away.
It's the goddamn Elephant's Foot of media studies.
#if selling your soul is real then it seems Walt really did so#he got everything he could have wanted (aside from possibly Epcot) but at what cost???#also I never even finished scrolling the tags for stories#there were too many#and there was a set of tags I wish I had archived on someones university having a course dedicated to disney because it was really That Big#I scrolled and couldn't find it#I've spent like an hour on this#and yes Your New Home keeps playing in my head#disney#walt disney#the disney corporation#I'm so glad I can conjure imaginary worlds in my head and never have the need to go to a theme park to experience them#because there were SO MANY PEOPLE who were talking about feeling bad over giving him control over the theme parks#long post#I don't think Walt would have liked what he's seeing now#not just because he was a perfectionist but because he valued art over money as seen with how he spent it#yeah it would still be a capitalistic nightmare to work under but at least you'd still be producing art#rather than buying every single thing that produces it#animation history#I wonder if he regretted putting his name on the company at any point?#he's almost as much of a mascot for his company as mickey is#that's how he lived too#appearing everywhere in tv and magazines like an instagrammer before instagram was invented#he wasn't the ceo#he didn't handle the financials#no one knew what his job was#he lived like how cartoon characters live#all over the place without any consistent job- just a face to be seen to the public#Roy probably built the company more than Walt did considering how many times he had to save his lil bro's ass#thoughts

My camel is 6000 days old 🐪🌴
#the good ol' times of my childhood#when I got TC magazines#and had a plushie camel named after my dear Sandra#and also when I almost financially ruined my family by ordering dates for my camel by phone without my parents' consent#when my caravan ruled a small part of the desert#or when I had fun with my friends in the 3D chat or later in the coolcamels site#I truly miss those days#for some reason I loved to stay out of school on Wednesdays because that was the coolest morning you could chat on the 3D chat with others#🥲

London Regains Top Spot as the World's Leading Financial Hub
London has reclaimed its position as the world's number one financial centre, surpassing New York in the latest annual ranking by the Corporation of the City of London. This year's research, which evaluated 101 metrics, placed London ahead after tying with New York in the previous year. The metrics considered various factors, including the "reach of financial activity" and "business infrastructure resilience."
London's Strengths in Sustainable Finance and Talent
Despite facing challenges such as a decline in capital markets activity and assets under management. London excelled in categories like "sustainable finance" and "talent and skills," which helped it secure the top spot. The city's performance in these areas offset a dip in traditional market actions, allowing it to rise in the rankings even though its overall score declined. In contrast. New York led in "tech" and "wider financial activity," but the end of its post-Covid bull market period negatively impacted its overall score.
