Just started writing, decided the OC will end up with George, but there’ll be a lil OC x John sprinkled in just for kicks (chat I’m so excited to be writing again)
how badly would y’all judge me if I wrote a Beatles x OC fanfic where my OC was the 5th Beatle (and gets with either John or George I can’t decide)

I'm in love with "The Fifth Beatle: The Brian Epstein Story" by Vivek Tiwary, Andrew C. Robinson & Kyle Baker
The 10th anniversary edition appeared in 2023. I got it for Christmas.
I love it because it's not an illustrated biography (nor is it a Beatles book)—it is a journey into Brian's mind. The illustrations are expressive and unusual. The writing tells truth as poetry. It's worthy of a man who saw what others could not—and made it his mission to share it with the world.
It shows the nights of Liverpool, where Brian learns that love is dangerous, and the stylish success of the family business, where he's Mr. Brian.
The magic moment when he meets the band that will be the life and death of him. The majestic bullfight of fame and love begins...
The book gives him an ally, an angel, a demon.
The rejections. The world saying no, go back to—
The Screams. Ed Sullivan. Nat Weiss. Boys. The Philippines. Sgt. Pepper.
Brian's loneliness and greed for success are not shown as a character weakness, but a reaction to not being allowed to love openly, due to the barbaric reality of "The Wilde Laws." There is always something missing, never a place to rest.
The book plays with metaphors and symbolism. It serves banter and stings, it seduces and cuts. And in the end...
The 10th Anniversary Edition has lots of additional material, such as an annotated playlist, early sketches, and various writings.
"... brian already had at least two social marks against him—he was Jewish and he was gay.
christ, you know it ain't easy, dusty springfield was catholic and gay but she was able to sing her way through it.
brian had to stand in the wings and watch his lads twist and shout
but those wings became the wings of the world" (andrew loog oldham) [all illustrations from THE FIFTH BEATLE: The Brian Epstein Story (10th Anniversary Edition, 2023), by Vivek Tiwary, Andrew C. Robinson & Kyle Baker. More materials on the book's website]

Hi
I listened to your episode about The Fifth Beatle, and I must say I have mixed feelings about it. I am a Paul fan, I did enjoy Wings (it's a shame they are not in the Hall of Fame :) ).
When it came to describing the Beatles, the author of the graphic novel used words describing their personality or creativity but Paul is "handsome". It is so frustrating that people do not seem to look beyond the surface appeal.
Again, when you asked about Paul being closer to Brian towards the end and why Paul was the bearer of the flame, just the amount of excuses used for why John wasn't the bearer and the reason for Paul being used is "he was there". John is always excused no matter what he does, there is a reason behind it and we must all have empathy for John.
Anyway, maybe I heard it wrong, but this is what I felt.
I feel you, Anon. I also winced when Vivek called Paul's personality "handsome" 😵💫 but he is such a lovely person and generally very respectful of Paul that I assumed he was just talking about the marketing labels (Paul was, famously, "the cute one") and let it slide. WRT: the end conversation about Brian's increased closeness to Paul v. John in 66-67... I honestly think Vivek was merely trying to defend Brian from accusations of favoritism (by denying he ever had a favorite). That certainly wasn't where I was going with my line of questioning (I was just genuinely curious about his take on Brian and Paul in '67), but I also didn't care to argue about it and was fine with letting him make that point. All that said, I do like Paul in The Fifth Beatle (we only feature guests whose work we genuinely like on AKOM), FWIW. :)

Edinburgh born Stuart Fergusson Victor Sutcliffe Scottish painter and musician best known as the original bass guitarist for the Beatles died on April 10th 1962.
There are a few people who can lay claim to being “the fifth Beatle” few have as strong a case as Stuart Sutcliffe.
Stuart’s father was an engineer officer in the Merchant Navy; his mother was a school teacher, they moved to Liverpool when Stuart was 3.
His art career began early on when he created works of art for his Mother’s classroom. He attended Prescott Grammar School, and was accepted at age 16 to attend the Liverpool Regional College of Art. There in 1957, he met fellow art student and musician, John Lennon. He was persuaded by John to buy a bass guitar after he sold a painting for £65, he couldn’t play the instrument, but rest of the band ”sat” on him until he could hold a tune.
Sutcliffe and John Lennon are credited with inventing the name “Beetles” (sic), as they both liked Buddy Holly’s band, the Crickets. They also had a fascination of group names with double meanings (as Crickets, for example, the word refers to both an insect as well as a sport), so John then came up with “The Beatles”, from the word beat (though John’s original spelling was “Beatals”. As a member of the group when it was a five-piece band another “fifth Beatle” Pete Best was recruited just prior to their first Hamburg trip, becoming the bands fifth member, so technically Suttcliffe was the fourth Beatle!
From April 1961 to March 1962 he was a awarded a scholarship at the chief Hamburg Art School, under Edinburgh man, Eduardo Paolozzi, who was doing a year as visiting professor and who is considered one of the fathers of Pop Art. He took a keen interest in Sutcliffe recalled: “He had so much energy and was so very inventive.”
Stuart fell in love with photographer Astrid Kirchherr and choose to leave the Beatles and devote himself to his work as an artist. He was an artist, poet and writer first – and a musician second.
Stuart Sutcliffe died in Hamburg in on this day 1962 from a brain haemorrhage at the age of 21.
My favourite quote about Stuart Suttcliffe comes surprisingly not from, Lennon, but George Harrison
“He wasn’t really a very good musician. In fact, he wasn’t a musician at all until we talked him into buying a bass…. He picked up a few things and he practiced a bit…. It was a bit ropey, but it didn’t matter at that time because he looked so cool.”

Not enough love for good editing, and this is good editing.
One of my favourite things Drawfee does is showing an image of whatever they reference. Even if I still have no idea what the thing is, it helps my brain focus and process what they're talking about so much.

Remembering Stuart Sutcliffe, who passed away on this day in 1962.
‘Come Foreward’ [sic] by Stuart Sutcliffe, February 1958:
“Perhaps when spring is near with skies and conscience clear will come the breath of light which through my sight will puff and blow the webs away will break the chains one day until through my lazy eye I’ll see all.”
