you're something special: my first kris-identity fic! i have mixed feelings on this one lol. you can tell its the first i wrote and i hadnt yet solidified my version of kris, tho i think this one probably fits better with canon. overall i like it though!

but then a bigger heart grew back: ooooooh i REALLY love this one. its postcanon owl house fic centering on hunter's grief over flapjack's death and his friendship with waffles!!! i wrote and posted it the DAY after the finale came out which is still really wild to me. its also the only fic ive seen that uses my favorite headcanon of 'hunter didnt carve waffles, she found him' which im so so fond of.

i hope your organs fail you (before i do): this was the first deltarune fic i wrote after chapter 2 came out!! the beginning of my deltarune spiral....its sort of a messy non-chronological look at deltarune's various routes and how kris might experiencing the game's multiple save files. also it has such a banger title. salt lake city by motherfolk is just banger after banger lyrics-wise

non-imaginary friends: god i hate that this is up here dkgjdfg i wrote it back when deltarune first came out and it SHOWS. i refuse to reread it but i think it's kris trying and failing to introduce the dark worlds to asriel. c'mon guys ive written so many better deltarune fics. blease. let this one rest in the past <3

we don't belong (but we're together): oooh, a warrior cats one! im....i mean, this one is like, fine, i guess. it follows hollyleaf and jayfeather in an au where the two of them flee through the tunnels. it has fun lore and i do like my oc pine but. man. its also the fic where i gave hollyleaf a power and if theres one thing i would change about my warriors au its that holly would NOT get a power. this is why i pre-write all my fics before posting now!

yes!! or at least i try my best to. i love and appreciate all my comments sometimes im just Bad at responding to them....i never know what to say beyond 'wow thank you' so sometimes i try to focus more on comments where i can actually say something of substance, yknow?

6. What’s the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

oh thats hard hmmmmmmm. i think i'd have to say it's and i want to tell you something-- which is a fic about kris & ralsei & the player/soul, where susie and noelle try to save kris from the soul, but both kris and ralsei know they cant survive without it. so in the end kris shatters the soul and is implied to die rather than keep being trapped.

7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

hmmmm. i think most of my ending are pretty bittersweet so in terms of pure happy ending...gonna go for a deep cut here and say its my naddpod fic +1 dad in which moonshine meets lucanus when shes a kid and they hit it off and they get to have that father-daughter relationship from the start. bc lucanus is the BEST naddpod npc and oh my god he loves his daughter so so much you guys--

i have a few times but its never been like, super major. the funniest time is. i deleted the comment so i dont have the exact wording but im pretty sure someone called me a fandom-deserting cur for. not writing more warrior cat fanfiction?

no im very aroace lol. i barely write romance.

i used to!!! i did the adventure zone crossed with both how to train your dragon and pokemon mystery dungeon: explorers of sky. i was a different person back then. i dont think i'd do it now, but. who knows.

not exactly co-written but both sometimes i think i left you just to see if i'd be missed and a buy one, get one free sort of friend were inspired by conversations i had with my friend @hyperfixations-go-brr! they would not have existed without those long discord chats. halloween festival will live on forever. synth my love.

14. What’s your all-time favorite ship?

im not super into ships beyond like. basic 'oh thats fun' when reading but i WILL actually give the two im the most excited to write in my dess raises kris au someday:

noelle/susie/ralsei: YOU HAVE TO TRUST ME. like. this is an au where noelle basically replaces kris in the fun gang but not in the prophecy and dkjgdfg its about. this budding relationship. and ralsei clinging to the prophecy that doesnt want noelle here and susie who bucks against anything that acts like it knows what shes supposed to do and noelle struggling with the return of her sister and a world that wants to write her out of the story and all of them wanting to be there for their friends but ralsei is dealing with so so much and in the end she gets to throw off her chains and be free <3 noelle/susie/ralsei is so real in my heart.

dess/chara: literally the funniest queerplatonic relationship ever. theyre reluctant coparents. dess trusts chara with kris's life. chara would never ever let dess watch either frisk OR kris unsupervised. chara is 'i can fix you' to dess's 'im literally the most perfect wife in the world.' dess doesn't believe romantic love is a real thing people feel. chara puts xir kids above everything else. dess never asked to be a mother even though she literally kidnapped her best friends baby sibling. they get married for the tax benefits. they should absolutely get a divorce.

15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you will?

oh god theres so many i would love to finish but its been so long i doubt i'll go back to them lol. the sequel to +1 dad that involves baby moonshine going to gladeholm. wall-e daemon au. gravity falls transcedence au daemon au. percy jackson daemon au. deltarune daemon au fangame.

as you can see its mostly various daemon aus. they were fun while they lasted! but ive moved on </3

16. What are your writing strengths?

pov you are me suddenly forgetting every single thing i have ever written.

i think im very good at writing otherkin or otherwise nonhuman characters. the comments that always bring me the most joy are those on my otherkin fics, by people who were able to see themselves in what i wrote--i think this is a thing that took me a lot of failed attempts to get just right and im really really proud of what i have.

im very good at writing daemon aus <3 there is sort of. an art to figuring out if one a work even needs daemons and two how daemons enhance or add to some aspect of the original work. theres a lot of things i like that i dont think really work with daemons but i always really enjoy figuring out how to add daemons and how to make my daemons like, characters in their own right, you know?

i like to think im good at dialogue and characterization! theres a few characters--kris and the collector, firefly to an extent--that im really proud of the voices i've made for them.

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

fight scenes. fight scenes. oh my god i hate them so much they are SO HARD. stop making me put!! visual things!! in my text based medium!!!

really any scene that relies on having a strong idea of like, physical descriptions and sense of a place--i have aphantasia so having to describe scenery and landscape and just, anything really is always a struggle for me.

i also struggle with pacing, to an extent, especially across longer works (im looking at you, owl house daemon au)--knowing how long a plot arc needs to last and how to make it interesting still even when its going to be around for 600k+ words is a challenge and if the owl house daemon au was my first massive fic undertaking i dont think i'd be able to do it.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language?

god im so bad at it but i really really am trying to be better--one big thing im going to focus on in my owl house daemon au edit is based on this because i want luz's identity to stick with her throughout the fic rather than it taking a backseat, but i am not a spanish speaker!! i know like, a LITTLE, but nowhere near enough to feel confident writing it.

19. First fandom you wrote for?

warrior cats. and beyond just 'oh its the first fandom i posted fic for' no i was writing warrior cat fanfiction from the START. i was out there on the playground coming up with warrior cat ocs. i was printing this stuff out in the school library. i would hand-write fanfiction about my childhood cats becoming warrior cats and starting their own clan. i would roleplay warrior cats on my bedroom floor with pictures of cats i cut out of printer paper and bits of plastic folders i folded into triangles and write down the stories i came up with.

i was the most warrior cat kid to warrior cat kid. I Have Always Been This Way.

20. Favorite fic you’ve ever written?

ohhhhhh this is SUCH a tough question i have so many im so fond of, but i think i'm going to have to go with alterhuman. it's an animorphs fic about tobias post-canon and its an exploration of species identity and being a hawk and as a red-tailed hawk myself, a lot of it is deeply personal, a lot of it is my love letter to animorphs, and a lot of it is neffit, who is the best oc i have ever created, hands down.

as for tags, uh....anybody who wants to talk about their fics! even if we dont know each other!! go forth! ramble on about your own stuff for an hour!! truly so so fun.

the DSMP Lost Boys AU. GOD i was on some shit when i was thinking abt that. it was literally so perfect. i still have the other half of the references buried somewhere deep in my wip folder but i just. never finished it. i was probably never gonna write an actual fic for it but god did i want to do more screenshot redraws . it was so perfect. i still think abt it sometimes when i watch lost boys like. damn .... sam is so tommy coded . i love you annoying little brothers

ANOTHER dsmp one: vengeful spirit. god. fuck . where do i even start. vengeful spirit was my baby i cared about it so much. it was my ghostbur-centric character study fic series where after cwilbur was revived, ghostbur fought his way out of limbo kicking and screaming and then they had to deal with the consequences of both existing in the living world at the same time. very heart player core. something something you hate yourself so much but now there are two of you and youre different people but also youre the same guy and you hate that your brother trusts the dead fish eyes version of you more than the living breathing one. aka ghostbur gets to be angry because i really just wanted to see him snap and punch something. unfortunately the first fic totally flopped and i had nobody to bounce ideas off of so i was the only person in the world to care about vengeful spirit. i had like 12 oneshots planned out and they were each titled with song lyrics from a song in the playlist (which still exists btw) and i made a layout and everything. A LAYOUT. i never outline things dude thats how u KNOW i went hard for this one. another factor in its death tho is i started writing it like.. right after the cwilbur revival when there was a huge lull in lore streams and i was trying to fill in the blanks. but because i am a slow writer eventually canon surpassed me and i was like "hm this is too divergent now and since i am the only one who is going to read this it will simply live in my brain forever" . also i think my time for writing dsmp is way past me now. sad! oh well theres other fandoms.

third one is NOT dsmp related but it IS general minecraft related. fuck dude i have so many ideas about minecraft worldbuilding. its such a perfect game to write about. i have so many minecraft ocs that have super complex lore that will probably never see the light of day bc im like. how the hell do i convey this information without actually showing people my minecraft world. the intricacies. there are so many. i cannot play this game normally i have to make a story every single time. EVEN WHEN im not actually setting out to make a story. even when im just like "hm yeah this is gonna be a casual world im not gonna take it too seriously" and then suddenly ive rebuilt an entire village to protect it from raids and all the villagers have names and im attached. sigh. i think about minecraft religion and also the magic system and how the world works and how mobs interact with each other and . man . theres so much. does anyone want to play miencraft with me i prommy i wont go insane on you

Hold On, I Still Want You -- a jatp fic analysis, specifically the jukebox factor

So for those of you who don't know, I wrote a very sad fic with the above title. This will contain major spoilers that I've already posted about and also minor ones from the fic so if you're planning to read the fic, I highly suggest coming back to this post later.

I will also be redoing this analysis once I've completed the sequel -- Come Back, I Still Need You -- because the song is about to take on a whole new meaning with where that lil story is going.

This is also gonna be long af due to reveals of cut scenes and me crying, hence the read more

Let's start with the most obvious point; the whole reason I chose this title in the first place.

Hold on, I still want you -- on it's own with zero context, I read this as begging someone not to leave. You want them around. You want them to stay. However, with context of the fic, this is more everyone in Julie's life begging her to hold on until someone can save her. Initially, I was just looking for something jukebox, but then this sat better with me. Julie is loved by everyone in her life. They're all hoping that she pulls through and survives. They want her to stay with them.

Like that's not sad enough on it's own, I paid attention to the rest of the lyrics for the first time in my life. Who wants to cry?? Me!!!!

The second and last lines hit hard. None of them ever expect Julie to leave. Luke thinks of Julie as his whole world. And when she is finally gone, who is the most detached? Yes, Carrie's goin thru it, but Luke actually almost stops playing music. The first few chapters of Come Back make it known that though the boys don't play bad music with Caleb, it is soulless and lifeless and just not them at all.

You locked yourself in the bathroom

Lying on the floor when I break through

I pull you in to feel your heartbeat

Can you hear me screaming? Please don't leave me

LISTEN. LISTEN LISTEN LISTEN.

Ok so this never made it into the fic and I wasn't really gonna talk about it but it deserves a mention for these lines. Julie's sick, right? And at first it just seems like food poisoning. She's got the symptoms. And she keeps rushing to the bathroom. Duh. It takes a while for the boys to calm down. It's food poisoning but Julie can handle herself, right? By the time people figure it's not food poisoning, Julie's beyond help (they don't know that yet tho)

So there was a piece that got cut of Julie locking herself in the bathroom. She knows herself. She's had food poisoning before. Several times. She knows what food poisoning at its worst feels like. This isn't food poisoning. But by this stage, Julie's already too tired to think straight. This is just before Julie ends up nearly completely bedridden. She's locked herself in the bathroom, terrified of what's actually going on. And usually, when Julie's locked in the bathroom, it's cause she's busy, so none of the guys ever bother her. But she's been in there for almost two hours now and Luke's starting to worry. At first he just stands outside, knocking and calling her name, waiting for her to say she's fine. But due to Julie passing out within the first 20 minutes of staring at her reflection, there's no response. So eventually, Luke just walked through the door to see Julie out cold in the middle of the bathroom. See: "lying on the floor when I break phase through"

You know, quickly followed by "I pull you in to feel your heartbeat; can you hear me screaming please don't leave me?"

I planned to have a moment of Luke experiencing pure panic when he finds Julie on the bathroom floor and because Julie is, y'know, fading ... the boys can't hold her as easy and so I planned to have Luke be unable to find a pulse. Therefore, hysterical panic. Frenzied screaming. Shouting Julie's name and crying for help until his throat is raw and his chest is heavy. Obviously, that got cut.

But it would've been immediately after this that they got Julie to a doctor for "unknown reasons". Previously they'd just visited the family doctor like "hey, bad case of food poisoning, what can she take to speed it up?" But this was like ,,,, ER kind of energy without actually going to the ER. This was also around the time Carrie would've started trying to persuade them to call in an expensive specialist or something.

Fun fact: Can you hear me screaming, please don't leave me is the title of the series as a whole

Skipping the chorus, we get to:

Long endless highway, you're silent beside me

Driving a nightmare I can't escape from

Helplessly praying, the light isn't fading

Hiding the shock and the chill in my bones

Luke isn't driving. But he's in the ambulance with Julie. All four of these lines are pretty much Luke during the ride from Julie's house to the hospital. He's so terrified??? Julie's silent, ice cold. It's all he can do to hope that she isn't already gone. See: "helplessly praying the light isn't fanding"

Then we get to the hospital, another scene that got cut:

They took you away on a table

I pace back and forth as you lay still

They pull you in to feel your heartbeat

Can you hear me screaming? Please don't leave me

I cut it because I couldn't write it well enough without wanting to burst into tears everytime and I didn't wanna write it mellow. So instead of this scene, I chose to write Alex and Reggie finding Flynn and following her to the hospital.

So the cut scene would have been them arriving at the hospital. At first, Luke followed Julie all the way through but he couldn't take it and eventually poofed out, pacing up and down the hallway. I didn't know how to get the words out well enough and still be okay after that and since I was gonna kill Julie, I figured you guys didn't need the trauma of Luke's internal monologue as the doctors struggle to save Julie, only for her to be gone before the others even made it to the hospital.

Though ... Julie's goodbye scene wasn't much easier to write.

So I skipped out the chorus before but I'm gonna put it down here:

Let me take your hand, I'll make it right

I swear to love you all my life

Hold on, I still need you

Because now this is really all that Luke can think about. And he's literally sitting at her bedside, holding her hand, trying to think of some way to save her. And remember, it's also at this moment that we get Luke's verbal confession. He promises that if she survives, he'll tell her again and again how much he loves her. (Well, before Luke accepts her fate and tells her its okay to let go, something he regrets almost instantly and I use to torture you guys with in book 2)

And I'm not doing the last bit of the song because it purely belongs to Come Back, I Still Need You just not in the way you think

also i’m watching the making of the album documentary now and it’s honestly spectacular (and only 13mins it needs to be longer 😭😭😭) - he goes into the back story of each song and talks about his life too and there’s clips of him filming the MVs and laying down the tracks. it’s low-key getting me v emotional especially when he was talking about dope lovers and how he had some p bad relationships bc he tends to push ppl away when he’s going thru stuff and he was recording the lyric “it was all for a kiss” and then he said “was it for a kiss or was it from a kiss because honestly, i think a lot of shit happens after the kiss” and ooft that hurttttt

FF7R Fanfic Exvacation - Trends of the Times PART 1

Welcome to my ECOLOGICAL SURVEY OF FF.NET’S FF7 ARCHIVE.

I’m scrolling through (most of) the 36 thousand English FF7 fanfics on FF.net. I’m mostly a new fan because of the remake (know some spoilers now tho) and got curious what the fanfic culture of years ago was like...of FFN specifically. Because that’s what I know and used for many years. I’ll go up till shortly after Remake’s release date, I think. 

PART 1, YOU ARE HERE! // Part 2: May - Dec 2005 // Part 3: Jan - Jul 2006 

I had 1458 pages to go through at the start. Got through 30 of them before deciding I would, uh, take liberties and skip a few pages sometimes. Sometimes 2, sometimes up to 4. Because while I liked this project, I also want to eventually, actually READ some fics for this new fandom of mine. And the oldest ones don’t often...have that high-quality writing. Or they’re about late-game plot deets that I, a newbie fool, don’t know or want to read about yet! (Note 3 months later, I kind of regret this and may go back and read more deeply about the 1999-2004 fics. Future posts of mine don’t skip nearly this much.)

SOME FINDS AND FACTS:

- July 23, 1999: first English language FF7 fic posted

- February 2000: First mention of Aerith, instead of original translation Aeris

- Dec 3, 2000: First Sephiroth/Cloud fanfic posted, refers to the pairing as “shounen-ai”. Did not see the pairing being called “yaoi” till later, in fics published June 2001 and after.

- GENERAL: a lot of poems and songfics. Often mournful fics with son lyrics set in between every few paragraphs, from popular bands of the early 2000s (Metallica, Creed, Weird Al Yankovic, Avril Lavigne) or just the song with FF names and words plugged in

- GENERAL: Humor or light-hearted crackfic is the most popular genre, followed by romance. By mid-2001, TifaxCloud and AerithxCloud seem about neck-and-neck in popularity. 

-  June 14, 2001: First Tifa hate fic I came across. It’s written in script style, about the characters having fun and drinking at a house party. Author says in opening AN: “I truly think she is a slut.”

- GENERAL: My knowledge of what happens after the Remake is spotty but I didn’t expect there to be more than 10 AerithxRufus fanfics and there’s been...at least 10?

- GENERAL: One story has just 1 chapter, and the summary invites readers to go to the author’s Geocities page to read the rest! May 31, 2002. 

- January 2, 2003: a “fic” that is a group of haikus about the Turks, that was neat. Points for uniqueness. 

- One summary: “Not yaoi - you ought to read it just for that!” Although M/M pairings and/or self-declared yaoi makes up 10 - 15% of everything I’ve scrolled through so far. “Crazy yaoi fangirls” doesn’t appear to be a popular demographic here yet.  

- 1999-2002 fics often had very short, poorly written and meta-factual (?) summaries. Not detailed, more like facts about the story you might write on a sticky note, and poor grammar. One might be like: This is a story from Aeriths perspective. Its about her talking to thhe planet.....I wrote this in math class btw. Thanks for helping me Ashley R&R! (In 2003 to 2004 times, this is really tapering off and legit summaries get more common.)

- 2004 sampler platter of fics: 1) Aeris (not “th”) watches an irl Australian tennis player’s match on TV, goes to his house and kills his girlfriend, is sentenced to death by chocobo pecking 2) Sephiroth is a vampire looking for a mate and sets his sights on Tifa, also a vampire; they meet in a seedy/dangerous bar 3) After President Shinra is killed, the Shinra grunts discuss how they like Rufus much more because he doesn’t view himself as too good for dirty/dangerous work and isn’t afraid to be on the front lines with the grunts

- First mention of the Advent Children in a modern AU crackfic about child Sephiroth and his “little brothers” posted July 24, 2004. But google says the movie didn’t come out till September 2005? Idk. And yet a later, unrelated fic posted on February 20, 2005 mentions “the upcoming movie Advent Children.”

- 2004 and 2005 have a lot of Yuffie representation. I haven’t seen the word “Yuffentine” since I last seriously used/surfed DeviantART in 2012.

- We are at May 2005, I’ve skimmed and simplified almost 6 years of fanfic.

I’m going to put the brakes on my liberal skipping policy. There’s 1144 pages left as of this time of writing, April 24, 2020. I will only skip 2 pages max if I want to “hurry,” so I will view at absolute minimum 644 more pages of fanfic before I’m done. Again, I’ll probably go up to the day of Remake’s release (I’m more concerned with the PAST trends here) or maybe just a bit after its release for better comparison of the very old and very new. 

This is taking a long time, and obviously eating into time I could use for my own fanfics or anything else in life, but damn it’s fun.

Authors Note: thank u anon ur so sweet! srry this took so long and im srry this doesnt have more words but i kinda had writers block in the middle. i havent written a pt fic in a while lol i kinda miss it! i hope i wrote about a panic attack correctly if i havent pls message me or just tell me how i can write it better and more appropriate. thnx for the request guys and i luv to hear what u guys think. 

Your palms were sweating, your knees buckling against each other, your eyes in a trance in a day dream. 

Nervous was an understatement, you were terrified at the most. You were a singer in P.T. Barnum’s circus. You sang only in front of Phineas and some of your friends but you have never sang in front of a numerous amount of people. This was your first concert. 

You almost collapsed when Phineas told you about the news of you singing. The truth was you have had a history with panic attacks. You wanted to tell Phineas but you could tell in his eyes and the way he smiled that he was just so excited for you to sing. You didn’t want to burn that fire within him. 

You practiced your song many times out loud and in your head. 

Nodding to yourself while staring out the window of the carriage you sang quietly the lyrics. Phineas sat beside you and seeing that you were nervous, clutched your hand. 

Your head whipped to both yours and Phineas’s hands together. 

“Don’t be nervous y/n. You’re gonna do great out there.” Phineas reassured you, rubbing your hand with his gloved one. 

You chuckled, “that’s laughable Mr. Barnum, usually when someone tells you not to be nervous it just makes them more anxious.”

Phineas took his hand away from yours quickly, leaving you a bit saddened. You placed your tiny hand compared to his on your lap, clutching your skirt. You stared out the window again, seeing the white snowflakes dance across the sky. 

You smiled and touched Phineas on his shirt, “look Mr. Barnum. Isn’t it the most beautiful thing you have ever seen?”

Phineas nodded, “its beautiful but not the most beautiful.” He then looked at you and whispered, “you are.”

You turned your attention to him with a startled face. “Did you say something?”

Phineas shook his head, “nothing just...remember to hold your head up high when you sing.”

Your looked down to your hands again. Suddenly the carriage came to a halt. 

“We are here Mr. Barnum.” The driver announced. 

Barnum thanked the driver while you got help getting out. 

You waited for Phineas to come around and you wrapped your arm around his. 

“May I just say y/n, your dress is stunning on you. You look like a queen.” Phineas whispered to you. 

You looked away bashful at his words but thanked him. 

Your shoulders peaked out just enough to call your dress risky, but you liked it that way. You wore a coat on top as you were outside. 

Walking up to the place your name in a poster was hanged up as big as can be. “Queen of music, Y/n.” You chuckled. “I love it Mr. Barnum. I think it really catches your sarcastic attitude.”

As you entered the building there were many folks there. Wanting your signature or maybe a photograph with you. You clutched onto Phineas’s arm the whole time. Your nerves igniting again. 

You shrugged your coat off and everyone gasped in the room at your beauty. You thought you could even hear Phineas gasp a little. 

As you walked closer to the stage your heart started to pound faster and faster. 

“Phineas I don’t think I can do this.” You desperately said, your eyes begging Phineas to let you go. 

Phineas’s expression though was of shock. 

“What is wrong?”

Phineas giggled, “No its just, you have never called me by my first name before.”

You stood still for a moment remembering the moments prior to this one and you looked up into Phineas’s eyes shocked. 

“You’re right. Oh, please do forgive me Mr. Barnum, its just the nerves and everything.”

“Y/n, I’m not mad. Actually far from it. From now on I would greatly appreciate you calling me by my first name. It sounds like a melody coming from your lips.”

You were very bashful in this moment. 

“Y/n you’re on in less than an hour. Get ready.”

You looked at Phineas and then you peaked through the curtains. The amount of people was astonishing. 

“I don’t, Phineas, I don’t. I think, I’m gonna.” You were trying to find the words, your heart was beating so quickly. You felt scared and you felt you were being suffocated. Your whole entire environment felt like a blur like a movie. All their voices and words didn’t come to you, it was as if they were speaking gibberish. 

“C’mon y/n, you can’t do this. Not here not now.” You told yourself in your head. 

Your breathing became erratic, you tried breathing through your nose and then out your mouth but it was not working. 

Phineas saw this and quickly kneeled down to you, since he was so much taller than you. 

“Y/n, sweetheart please look at me. Can you look at me?”

You shook your head and clutched your chest. You were having a panic attack. 

“Breathe y/n, you have to breathe. Breathe for me. In and out.”

You tried but you just felt alone, you felt lost. 

“I got you y/n. I am here.”

You breathed in and out, while Phineas held your hand. 

In and out. 

After a few moments your heart was beating normally and your breathing was slow and appropriate. 

“Y/n are you okay?”

You looked at Phineas’s face into his eyes. “Phineas I am scared. I should of told you, but I have had panic attacks in the past. I’m sorry.”

Phineas caressed your face and shook his head. “Y/n why are you sorry. I’m sorry for wanting you to do this and not caring about you being nervous. You are really important to me. I am right here for you y/n.”

You smiled and leaned your forehead against his. “Thank you.”

“You don’t have to sing if you are not comfortable with it.”

No you needed to do this. You promised every one and you were not going to let your anxiety get the best of you. You stood proud and tall. 

“I told everyone I was going to sing, then that is what I am going to do. I am going to sing my best.”

Phineas grinned the biggest grinned and kissed your hand, standing tall as well. “If that is the decision that you have choose then I will be by your side through it all.”

Ehh, well, yes and no, I like the potential of Darklina, but I DON'T like what LB did with them in the books cause again, haven't fully read them but from what I know they were BS and Alina literally become little Ms. Wanna-Be-Mary-Sue who everybody loves and she rather denies herself and gives up her Power for the boy who didn't even "see" her until others wanted her and who only liked the meek, weak version of her.... Plus, the book version of the Darkling was made out to just be pure evil, so... The books basically screwed them both over😑😩 The Netflix show on the other hand was brilliant and Darklina's dynamics are awesome and show SO much potential, but after episode 5 Alina just seems like a naive, childish girlie to me, sooo... I'm just hoping the Season 2 will go differently from the books (I mean, there are already differences thanks to the Crows being there), so I still have hope for Darklina and Alina's character development🙈😖 (Tho seriously, what is it with YA Fiction's female main characters turning into BS?? Or do I just symphazise with the villains too much??😅🙈😂) (Oh, and nah, everybody suggests NOT reading the books, only the Six of Crows eBooks are good, but the Netflix show was pretty good til now and it's only one season...I really hope they focus more Ravka, pejudice against Grisha and all that stuff since lots of Alexander's reasons seem to stem from that)

Oh, because the lines look like Mon-El from ep 100 (long slicked back hair) and Kara in general (good girl faith and a tight little skirt). Also, now I imagined karamel Grease AU, where Mon-El walks with a comb in his backpocket and fixes his hair a lot xD

AMA Transcript: Now the light falls

This week, @lunar--resonance​ stopped by to talk about their Resbang, Now the light falls! Here’s some of what went down!:

Q: What inspired this fic?

Lunar: makapedia sent me a prompt for Ghost AU back in 2015 and I wrote this: http://lunar--resonance.tumblr.com/post/119962051400/41-for-soma-o. I had so much fun with the prompt that I started a notes file on it and it got so long that I was like, yeah I have to split this up into different fics. I knew from the beginning it was gonna be a trilogy, and I have basically all of the plot points planned out for each fic which is why there are some things that go unexplained in Now the night falls. Some of what I wrote for the original prompt differs from the actual fic but that was where it all got started. :D The plot went through many drafts and revisions ahah. What I envisioned when I wrote the prompt is v different from the fic. I had a draft running before Resbang started and then I hit a rut so I had to take it to pieces and regroup halfway through so that was fun.

Q: I want to know if Soul actually made Hiro's pudding explode cause he was jelly or if it was just Hiro being Hiro.

Lunar: Soul got jelly, but he didn't mean to make the pudding explode lmao.

Q: I'm super hype that this AU will have more stuff! I was like "they didn't answer a bunch of questions, this universe is super huge and well developed." "IMMA ASK ABOUT A SEQUEL!"

Lunar: YES I HAD SO MUCH FUN WITH THE WORLDBUILDING AND YOU WILL SEE A LOT OF THAT IN THE SEQUEL. Esp with Ghostbusters squad. I'm so excited for them to play a bigger role in the sequel.

Q: What was your favorite part to write?

Lunar: I really liked writing when Maka and Soul are out on the roof because that's one of the first times they truly connect. And I was really looking forward to writing the possession scenes lmao, like I had that planned way back in the earliest drafts. I had to do it. And it's also going to be a big plot point in the sequels. ;D

Q: The roof scene made my heart burst.

Lunar: The roof scene was one of the most emotional scenes I wrote and at first it was originally slanted that Maka was the only one going through anxiety stuff but after one of the revisions, I made it so Soul was also going through stuff (for secret plot reasons) so it was interesting to write two characters who are both very not okay support each other.

Q: What have you learned from participating in Resbang for three... years? FOUR?

Lunar: I participated in Resbang when it first started which was in 2013 I think?? So four years. WOW THAT'S A LONG TIME. I would definitely say that my writing process has been developed and refined so much, I basically had just begun to write when Resbang #1 rolled around so basically my process was just WRITE. Now I actually list and plan everything out in plot instead of being like, oh I didn't know the story was going this way. Which happens sometimes still lol, just not as much.

Q: What was your process like?

Lunar: For writing I like to go through things chronologically because my brain allows no other alternative so generally I make an outline of the main points I want for each scene. Generally snippets of what I'm envisioning come alive during that part so I also jot those down and by the end my doc is a trainwreck so I re-organize and that really helps me cement the timeline for the scene/chapter. Then I start writing and if I hit a rut then usually what I do is force myself to write in bullet points of what I want to go down but just....can't find the words. Because I know if I stop writing I'm just going to be staring at a blank page for two hours lol. OH AND MUSIC. That is super essential for me getting into the headspace of a character. I can't write without it.

Q: Do you have playlists you'd like to share? Or general artists you listened to a lot?

With the exception of Control all of them are instrumental, which helps bc sometimes lyrics can get distracting.

Q: Is the pudding exploding an HP reference?

Lunar: YEAH THE PUDDING WAS AN HP REFERENCE LMAO.

Q: That bullet point thing is neat! Do you find it helps you to get out of your rut when you're having a hard time with a scene?

Lunar: The bullet points help SO MUCH. From past experience I know if I run into a block its going to take me forever to get out of it, so forcing myself to write and flesh out the scene def gets my inspiration going again. Breaking out of blocks is such a difficult struggle x.x It wasn't until my last Resbang fic that I figured out the bullet point method was the way to go lol.

Q: Did you have to do any extra research for this fic, and if so, what kinds of things did you look into?

Lunar: Working out the different levels of ghosts and how they evolve into each other took some research, I only hinted at it somewhat in the story but ghosts and the poltergeists are related as well as other ghosts that we haven't seen yet ahah. Also names of places like Orcus Hollow. I put some research into that bc symbolism and future plot points. Supernatural stuff was the main thing tho.

Q: Did anything inspire that sort of in between world with all the spiderwebs?

Lunar: Mmm so the in-between world is the new witches' realm; it's kinda like its own dimension overlaid on ours. So Arachne's part of the realm is overlaid on Orcus Hollow which was why there were all the spiderwebs and spider beasts and is also why Soul and Maka ended up in the same place in that dimension.

Q: That's v neat - looking forward to seeing it play out in later parts of the series. ;)

Lunar: Me too. ;v; There was so much that I put into developing this universe but there's only a fraction revealed bc the story is only from Maka's POV (with the interlude being the exception) but in the sequel I know for sure I'm going to be switching between Soul and Maka pretty evenly and adding in some other characters' POVS as well. So that will be fun ahah. I've been working on the sequel and there is gonna be angst. The obvious conflict is that Maka is alive and Soul is not but there is other pain that I kinda hinted on in the story that will be a much bigger part of the two sequels, especially this upcoming one. I have like, one happy ending and several sad ones ahahahah.

Q: What was the most rewarding aspect of this Resbang for you?

Lunar: Ahhhhhh there were so great things but I really enjoyed bouncing ideas with my artists, they helped keep my inspiration up. Also after being haunted (haha) by this idea for so long I was excited/nervous to see what people would think and if it lived up to expectations or not.

Q: I'm still waiting for ghost fam to make a reappearance. Q: Same. What happened to ghost fam? Except jk we will probably find out in the sequels, I hope.

Lunar: I LOVED GHOST FAM. I GOT INVESTED LOL. That was one part I meant to not go in much detail in but I realized it was needed to explain Maka's issues with ghosts later on. AND YEAH YOU WILL FIND OUT IN THE SEQUEL. ;D

Q: Are we gonna get to see more of Soul learning about modern things? Cause that was one of my favorite little details of the fic.

Lunar: That was a fave detail of mine too ahah. I have sections that I wasn't able to fit in the story of Soul experiencing riding in a car and going to the mall for the first time. I'm debating whether to see if I can work it into a prompt for SoMa week?? Or just finish and publish them lmao. It will get published one way or the other lol.

Q: Whats your [worldbuilding] process? Have you developed and tricks or hacks?

Lunar: Generally I start out with: what is necessary for the plot, especially from a reader's perspective? In answering that question, it's very easy to expand on that and develop from there. Like, for example I knew that Soul was going to be a unique kind of ghost so I figured out what kind of ghost he was, then built on that to make the other levels of ghosts you see in the story and in the sequels.

Q: Where did [that] idea come from?

Lunar: I was rewatching the episode of Maka and Soul facing off free while they were fighting and the part where Maka is like, is Soul trying to eat my soul, made me think about the process of becoming a kishin in canon. And I was inspired and borrowed from that in making the different levels of ghosts in Ghost AU.

Q: How'd it spiral into a trilogy? Was that always the plan?

Lunar: The plan was always a trilogy from the get-go; when I was initially planning out everything, I knew that all of the plot points weren't going to fit into one fic, but luckily there were two breaks within the plot points that made it easy to section it into a trilogy.
