I was about to explain why I’m redesigning Veylas, but I realized that there’s probably very few of you who know Veylas!  So I guess I’ll introduce him and his race, since I’m here anyways.

Veylas (as seen in the moderately coloured bust) is the adopted son of Captain Maximillius Rudderford, leader of the Black Valkyries and the most feared mercenary captain in the Known Galaxy, and Danielle Rudderford, her wife and head pilot.  Veylas is Maximillius’s successor!  Don’t let his friendly exterior and cheery smiles fool you, though: he’s a rather worthy successor, so known as Black Wing, and just as dangerous as the captain.

Beyond that, Veylas is a lenkai, but doesn’t really...know that.  Because he was adopted, he doesn’t know anything about his species, and the lenkai aren’t well-known because they’re owned by an empire that isn’t a member of the Known Galaxy.  He’s had a helluva time figuring out his own goddamn biology.

Other than that, there’s Donati in the bottom right, his twin sister, and William in the top right, Veylas’s lover pilot.
