In my Kagehina feels, so y’all are getting my headcanons
-they got together in their first year after Kageyama’s second crowning
-this happened in the most Kagehina way possible, where they were walking home together and Kageyama just says ‘I think I want to date you, dumbass’
-Hinata says ‘think I wanna date you too, asshole’ and that’s it, they’re dating now
-sure, the conversation following the confession is a bit more emotionaly charged and Kageyama thanks Hinata for the support, but there’s no more mention to the nature of their relationship
-they continue on in their relationship up to their third year
-no one notices
-this is because nothing changed. Sure, they are physicaly close, but they basicaly fell asleep on each others’ shoulders before this, it’s not like them holding hands is weird
-they don’t really enjoy kissing, because it’s just weird to do so
-until they find out about the horizontal tango in their third year
-this kinda expands their horizons, but they still dislike kissing in public without any followup, because they’re very competetive in everything, including bedroom activities
-Yamaguchi, Yachi and Tsukishima kinda think something is going on, but they’re never sure and it’s driving them insane
-anyone can ask ‘Hinata, is Kageyama your partner?’ And the answer will be ‘yes’ but the answer has been yes for three years now goddamit and surely the two of them couldn’t have been together for THAT long, right????
-their touches border platonic and romantic, but they never really cared about the distinctions, so who even KNOWS
-they spend a shitton of time together, but that’s NORMAL, stil
-chaos in the gc. Their senpais get in on this and it’s a whole bet going on
-Brazil time. Why should they ‘take a break’? Nah, they’re fine, long distance is no problem for either of them as long as they get to talk to each other weekly
-Oh sure, they miss the physical aspects of their relationship, but the way they feel about each other hasn’t changed at all and they both know Hinata is doing this for the both of them
-that being said, when Hinata gets back from Brazil, Kageyama is the one to go pick him up and then doesn’t show up at practice for two days straight because they keep each other ‘occupied’
-they both also cry when they meet at the airport. The only lucky thing is that this was at two in the morning on a Tuesday and Hinata was nowhere near as popular as after his MSBY debut, otherwise Kageyama would’ve probably been followed by at least three journalists and their ‘Welcome home’ kiss would’ve ended up plastered on every single sports magazíne cover the next morning
-as soon as they settle into their new routine, the ‘when will they get together/are they together yet’ game starts on a bigger scale, now including their V-League teammates
-Kageyama comes to practice bruised up? The bruises look natural and could be from a number of other activities he regularly does
-Hinata has scratches on his arms? It’s a well known fact that he’s very fond of cats and has been seen petting a stray one just the day before
-both of them drop out of practice on the same day and are seen together? Turns out Hinata’s sister came to visit and she just LOVES Tobio, really, how could you deny the Hinata smile™️ anything?
-they call each other by their first names? Oh, they’ve known each other for AGES
-they share an apartment sometimes? Tokyo is EXPENSIVE and Tobio lives so close to the Adlers gym, why waste an opportunity to play volleyball together?
-funny thing is that they’re not even the ones comming up with the excuses, it’s just the two sides of the bet arguing over the possibility of their win
-and along comes Japan national team
-they win their first gold together
-and kiss on the olympic court
-afterwards, both of them look so giddy and shocked that EVERYONE assumes they must’ve just gotten together. And really, that has always been the more popular assumption, because the two of them can be DENSE
-read a really funny fic where Kageyama was doing a press conference and he was asked who his favourite spiker he ever played with was and instead of saying someone from his current team, he just said Hinata (they do this constantly)
-so it’s not that big of a surprise. Money is payed out to the assumed winners, there’s a general sense of great ease and everyone congratulates the two of them
-they seem confused about the congratulations, but then again, it has been a very emotional day for the both of them
-well, there’s an afterparty for the national team
-Kageyama and Hinata sit next to each other on one of the couches and the team is huddled around them and everyone is just having a good time
-and then Hinata turns to Kageyama and says ‘Hey, let’s just get married after the games end’
-the party grows quiet
-Kageyama’s response? ‘Oh, sure, works with me’
-you could hear a pin drop
-and the two of them just try to continue on with the conversation that the question interupted
-then Bokuto, bless his heart, and Ushijima, no social awareness extraordinare, congratulate them on their engagement, to which Kagehina smile and thank them and then try to pull them into the conversation
-Atsumu is the one to speak up next
-‘um. Shouyo-kun, I don’t want to be mean or anything. But uh. Don’t you think it would be better to wait with the engagement a bit? I mean, I know you two have known each other for years and all, but then again, you just got together. Wouldn’t it be better to think this through a bit more?’
-…
-Hinata and Kageyama look at each other
-wide eyes, they mouth Atsumu’s sentence back to each other
-then Hinata bursts out into laughter and burries his face in Kageyama’s shirt
-Kageyama snorts and gets redder than the Japan jersey
-everyone else is confused as fuck, that is until Hinata manages to get his breath back
-‘We’ve- uh, hah, we have been together since the first year of highschool, ‘Tsumu- Tobio- To- Tobio. Fuck- we never fucking told anyone’s have we?’ more laughter
-this time it’s Kageyama who loses it and hides his face in Hinata’s shoulder
-‘No, no we did not-‘
-que everyone else losing their shit
-that night causes more chaos in the V-League comunity than anything else in the past decade in the least
-next morning, after a LOT of phonecalls, a post appears on all of Ninja Shouyo’s social media accounts, with only a ‘We’re here’ and a photo of Kagehina, with their olympic jerseys on and showing off their gold medals
-and under all of these, the first comment is always from the underused, almost empty accounts of one Kageyama Tobio, stating ‘can’t wait to marry you’

This is just a lil story that has been nagging at me for days to be written :) I may post a longer more fleshed out version eventually ❤️
Smut, 18+ minors go away, fwb who fall in love ;) the usual.
Not canon because my fanfics refuse to entertain the fact that Eddie is dead. Kay?
Tumblr media
🌸
This thing between you and Eddie had started a few weeks ago, when he gave you a lift home after your so-called boyfriend (now dumped) abandoned you in a storm for Jenny Turner.
"Hey, you need a ride?" you looked up and saw Eddie Munson in his van, the window rolled down as he peered at you worriedly.
The wind was howling and you were freezing, you couldn't believe David had been such a jerk and just left you in this storm, all because Jenny flashed him a dimpled smile and batted her eyes.
Or it was just the fact that he was a huge jerk.
You were beyond angry at him and accepted the ride because it would piss David off and you wanted to get home.
Eddie walked you from his van to your front door making sure that you were going inside safely.
That's when you kissed him and one thing lead to another and you had minblowing sex that lasted for hours.
Thank god your parents were away because Eddie could make you scream...
It was a one-off you both told each other as you dressed quickly that morning, ignoring the love bites between your thighs and on your breasts or your faint nail marks on his back.
You didn't think that you'd end up in the back of Eddies van the next day, on your knees as you sucked him off, his hand fisted in your hair and grunts of pleasure emitting from him and his big brown eyes wide and full of awe.
"You're incredible baby, so good" He groans and comes hard, his cheeks flushed, smile firmly on his face.
It was all you could think about was feeling him deep inside you again, the way his body fit perfectly against yours.
Eddie's lips between your thighs were heavenly, you were so lost in the pleasure that you could happily stay there forever.
Eddie pleased you in ways you never thought could be possible, you fit together so perfectly.
The sex was off the scale in terms of how amazing it was and you found you liked being with Eddie, waking up in his arms in the morning after the nights you shared.
Hooking up with him happened again and again and before you knew it you were staying at his more and more often.
Some nights you wouldn't have sex, just listen to him as he strategised campaigns for dnd or he would read to you, making up funny voices for different characters or play the guitar for you.
With him, you could just relax and be yourself without having to impress anybody or trying to be someone you just weren't.
At school you gravitated towards each other, he would find any excuse to be near you, you both would find excuses to exchange secret touches.
A caress on the back, fingers touching for a few seconds. Your gazes would constantly find each other and when they did it was like no one was around.
Just you two.
He would hold doors open for you, let you pass him in the hallways or cafeteria with a dramatic flourish that always made you smile.
Your friends would ask why he was hanging around you and giggle that the freak had a crush.
You told them to shut up and not call him a freak and honestly you were so smitten with Eddie you didn't give a shit what they thought.
Eddie could also make you laugh like no one else.
It didn't take you long to realize that you had fallen in love for the first time. You were just nervous to say anything in case Eddie didn't feel the same way.
Little did you know Eddie was having the same worries, his brain going a mile a minute.
He loved you. Truly fallen in love for the first time and it was exhilarating and terrifying. He hadn't felt this way about any woman before.
The truth was he had started to say it when you would fall asleep, falling into a deep sleep where you would cuddle into his chest
He would brush the hair away from your forehead, pepper your head with soft kisses and whisper I love you very, very softly. Almost impercetible.
Maybe one day he would work up the courage to tell you properly.

Have a Good Night Sleep, Dogday AU
Tumblr media
Alternative:
Tumblr media
Finally, after an month and an half of month, am finally finished.
Before I start i wanted to take back both things I said in my WIP.
When I said its cartoon world, i actually meant was its mostly take place in the cartoon world. it really an Imagination world, as you'll see what I meant during this post.
What i actually meant about its not a shipping au, its not a shipping au between Dogday and CatNap specifically. well there is no couple pairing of the critters existing, just crushes. but its never important at all (besides it only 2 critters.)
Now there is some things that are related to the bigger bodies however it has nothing to do with bigger bodies dogday nor catnap at all. it just about the cartoon world. So not even worshiping prototype exists here.
and I apologize for any grammar mistake I miss.
Anyway on to the post!
About:
About Have a Good Night Sleep, Dogday or HGNSD AU
Tumblr media
In a nutshell, it basically two children created entire storyline about Dogday trying to find a way for CatNap to turn back to normal. At least what Dogday thinks because if there was a way to strengthen Catnap (dark essence bottle), then there has to be a way to get him back to normal.
The previous storyline before the brother came was just smiling critters just doing normal activities.
Originally the au was post to be slightly similar to 2016 stuff, but I think it not really "2016" like anymore. This series is post be animated on youtube only, but i have no idea if i should since i need motivation and still have to practice my animation skills.
Just note, some characters personalities are the same, but just altered a bit or a lot. Then the other altered completely
Anyway lets start with the characters that no one will cares about first!
Welcome to the Yearwoods Family.
Family Photo Link
It was- I mean is a happy family! The family are Christians. The family consists 2 children and a sphynx cat
All names of the family are: Mr. Yearwood, Mrs. Yearwood, Amber Yearwood and Kevin Yearwood. (the parents are nameless)
the cat name is pinky. (its a girl)
Out of the 4, Amber and Kevin are the important ones.
Amber and Kevin
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Whenever Amber goes to school, she's bullied. She hates it as it ruins her self esteem. But she claims that she's fine and she don't need any help.
--------
Amber and Kevin gets along. Though, Kevin likes teasing and playfully making fun of his sister a lot. Amber usually ignores him or just pretty much says its not funny. Overall, they love each other as siblings.
Every day they play with the smiling critters toys before their mom tells them to go to bed. Amber sleeps with catnap toy or sometimes craftycorn.
Amber and Kevin playstyle is different. Though at the end, they're both obviously equally immature.
Amber's Playstyle:
Amber plays a CatNap, not shocking.... She sometimes play as the other critters (most likely CraftyCorn), but she mainly plays CatNap. And i mean main, she doesn't even let her brother play CatNap for once.
Amber is good with crafting an story, but very very bad at power scaling.
usually when she plays the other critters, they act bit more mature. However when she plays a CatNap, she either being serious or being a joke. there is no in-between.
One of the running gags of the Au is CatNap's powers. He keeps gaining new ability every time. Amber is doing that deliberately so she can win, and counter her brother every time. However when her brother starts winning, she gets annoyed and slightly mad when she starting to lose. But its the entire fact she wants CatNap to win entirely. by going as far as weakening the other critters.
She also pull the "nuh uh" or miss despite the attack was obviously undodgeable.
Kevin's Playstyle:
Whatever Kevin plays the critters, its more jokes and being unserious. sometimes he be serious but then its ruined with an joke. He mainly plays Dogday but he do play other critters. He gave Dogday powers because he thinks its more fair to have everyone with powers. Despite Kevin joking a lot, his powers are usually kind of balanced (expect for the fact Dogday is kind of op not as op as Catnap.) Dogday gains powers too but only if he learns something. The brother often wins.
Kevin likes overdramatizing fights, dark scenes and using powers, mostly because he watch too much action tv shows.
Now that's done, let get to the real AU.
Welcome to Sunnyville!
Tumblr media
(i literally had to compressed the file omfg, this stupid image lags so hard everytime i open it..)
Here's a better close up version
Sunnyville is the brightest and cheerful town around! This is the main location where the Smiling Critters resides in. The positivity and good vibes came from Smiling Critters themselves.
There's more than one groups as the known ones are Smiling critters, Nega Bratzz, The Quacking Sisters, and The Ordinarys
Tumblr media
The town is mostly nice however there are bullies (Nega Bratzz and The Quaking Sisters), but it doesn't quite override the sheer amount of positivity. Smiling Critters has a reputation in this town, often for their upbeat attitude. Outside of the critters group, Dogday is well liked by adults, awhile children thinks KickinChicken is cool. Not all though fine with their upbeat attitude, especially Nega Bratzz.
Tumblr media
The houses are altered but Every single Night, Catnap's house changes.
Well not the exterior, But just the interior does.
The interior becomes an nearly endless mansion with whole bunch of halllways and rooms. turning back around doesn't get no better. Once enter his house, the doors are shut tight enough for no one to escape.
The inside of Catnap's house is described as an dream world or illusion world. Once entered here and manage to end up falling asleep or become unconscious, it would be treated as if the critters was dreaming the entire time. That's because when the sunrises, the interior turns back to normal. Any injury is also gone.
example:
Tumblr media
The "illusion house" is quite dangerous, due to it being unpredictable unknown danger. Some rooms are safe, awhile others are not. Some could be neutral awhile other could be a trap. The critters will never know.
Aside from catnap's house, DogDay's house been redesigned in this au too.
Smiling Critters Section
Enough explaining everything else but the critters!
The story mostly revolves around Dogday and CatNap. KickinChicken is an major character. The other critters are very important too, but not as much.
Once wholesome positive team, is now a distressed team. Smiling Critters has to work together to solve this mystery of Catnap and the happenings that are caused by him. Awhile they try to solve Catnap awhile balancing their routines.
At day, Smiling critters just do their normal routine, get ready, eat, play, eat... But as soon as its Night, that's the where the real kicker is. Majority of the events that happens in this AU, takes place at night. At the moment, no one but outside of Smiling Critters area knows what's going on with Catnap.
They try to gather clues and research CatNap to get understanding on what their facing.
The Critters acts like their description.......somewhat. its altered a bit.
About the Other form i mentioned on the about, what was the so called form am I talking about? Well its called Enhanced Form. Enhanced forms are magical forms that gives a smiling critter powers. In order for an Smiling Critter to be enhanced, Dogday must enhance them, as he the only one who is able to do it.
Enhanced forms are strong, at least strong enough to fight the CatNap.
In order for an Critter to transform into Enhanced form, Dogday must use his powers to enchant the pendant (on the necklace). Then, the critter can either grabs the pendant tightly or smack it, causing them to transform into enhanced form.
Dogday can change at will, but he does not have enhanced form, but rather just a stronger form. Though, Dogday don't even need to transform, he can still use half of his abilities without it.
When a critter transforms, their pendant changes too.
Tumblr media
An Critter can de-transform by either de-transforming willingly or when they become unconscious.
I will now talk about the Smiling critters separately.
Dogday the Guardian of the Sun:
Tumblr media
Makes sense to start with the titular character of this AU.
Dogday is the main character of HGNSD.
Tumblr media
Other things that I didn't add due to space:
Dogday is an early bird, he tends to wake up everyone to get the day started. Excluding CatNap, He's the last critter to go to sleep.
full content (but also not) of how Dogday gained his powers: Dogday was slammed multiple times by Catnap (due to the fact he rebelled, fight back and took the risk of letting himself be the one getting the punches instead of his friends), before tossing him to a deep pit. The pit had spikes at the very bottom. Despite Dogday was clearly about to die, he still had some hope and determination left...causing gain powers and fly upwards in result.
Dogday is more powerful than any other critters. He can even sometimes surpass Catnap's powers. Dogday's powers deals with the sun aka light. Dogday's powers are 2x stronger at day but at night, its normal strength of the power.
The AU name is post to be ironic (really just an bullying title since dogday cannot even go to sleep properly because of CatNap) but at the same time, its foreshadowing something.
Dogday is traumatized, but he doesn't show it.
He was horrified at the state of Catnap tall self. But after dealing with him for so long, he's desensitized to it. doesn't means that's a good thing though.
Dogday gets insulted a lot, he gets upset a little but it doesn't really effect him completely. The only thing that effects him is the fact his best friend is even like this at all.
Other Critters
Now the main character is out of the way, let's talk about the other critters (expect for Catnap). They will be ordered from most important to the least important.
KickinChicken the Guardian of the Stars:
Tumblr media
(i added the bottom beak on purpose)
Let's start with kickin'
Tumblr media
Other things that I didn't add due to space:
KickinChicken is most likely the one who defends his friends from bullying.
KickinChicken powers deal with stars and light. He is almost as strong as DogDay.
He often sacrifice himself in order for his friends to escape to find safety. If Dogday is almost there to being killed, he jumps in to prevent it. Because of his sacrifices....he almost had access to change into form at will permanently.
He was able to change into his enhanced form twice without Dogday's assistance. But it happened in two different circumstances. not to mention sudden change, but it was in a necessary moment.
KickinChicken and Dogday works together sometimes.
No matter how much an critter insults KickinChicken, it doesn't bother him. In fact, he will twist the insult into a positive one.
He considers Hoppy Hopscotch his best friend. They both have an friendly rivalry when comes to any game. They get a bit too competitive....almost destructive sometimes. They always doing the "am better than you" attitude. If one of them lost, they take the lost but still cocky.
KickinChicken usually compliments himself and looks at the mirror in his bathroom.
Kickinchicken secretly can sing. He didn't tell anyone because he wanted it to be personal for him only. Until catnap exists and ruins everything. There's concept designs of kickinchicken in his singer outfit design, but i hadn't finalized it.
CRAFTYCORN the Guardian of Colors:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Other things that I didn't add due to space:
More info about her own magic: she has an specific book to learn her own abilities. She tries to learn her own magic, but it pretty much hard for her too. She struggles to use her magic, when it successful, its usually something small. In her enhanced form, she able to use her magic like she trained for years.
Sometimes Craftycorn's magic is successful either under concentration or distress. And sometimes it fails. She also the only critter who can create her own form without Dogday's help. Though it isn't an enhanced form, but rather a different form.
Craftycorn one day wants her art be display in a muesum
In her enhanced form, she has the powers of creation, unicorn magic and color. Making her quite strong. She only has on specific healing ability called Revival. she can only use this on one critter awhile focusing, and if she gets distracted, the progress will fail.
Craftycorn sometimes ends up finding out some stuff before anyone else.
Craftycorn one time was able to beat Catnap without help.
Craftycorn has a crush on Dogday, she didn't at first though. She was saved by Dogday, causing her to gain a crush on him since then (omg its almost like proto-). She been drawing a lot of pictures of him closed doors.
Sometimes she plays chess with Bubba Bubbaphant. She loses mostly.
Bubba Bubbaphant the Guardian of Intelligence:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Other things that I didn't add due to space:
Bubba Bubbaphant has the power of vision, intelligence and detection. He is able to rewind to able to see an vision from the past. Since he most likely using his powers for investigating, making clues and ideas for any sign for an cure.
When bubba bubbaphant is targeted, he sometimes gets it the worst than Dogday, simply because "he's smart". For example, everyone else will get tied up in one way, but bubba bubbaphant will have 15 different ways of being tied and caged to make sure he doesn't try to strategize to escape at all.
Bubbe Bubbaphant pacifism caused injuries. He never try to switch sides, he's still standing his ways.
When Dogday first gain his powers, He went to Bubba Bubbphant to figure things out. Though Bubba Bubbaphant obviously could not answer how to deal with his powers. So instead he tries to study both Dogday's and Catnap's powers.
Bubba Bubbphant had try to to keep up with Catnap's powers, but he clearly wants to give up at this point because its way too much. Its stressing him out
Hoppy Hopscotch the Guardian of Energy:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Other things that I didn't add due to space:
Hoppy Hopscotch powers are lighting, super speed, super jump and energy. She can charge herself by simply running.
Hoppy and KickinChicken are friendly rivals mostly competitive in games. Though Hoppy is usually the one ends up making it more destructive then it originally is. She usually try to win, by doing things faster. She also view kickinchicken as her best friend.
Extension of the trained fighter: When using her fighting skills, she usual attacks fast. Awhile Hoppy was teaching Dogday, she accidentally gives him bruises in the beginning...
She can be just as cocky as kickinchicken sometimes without using the better than you phrase.
When she is being insulted, she usually insult back.
Even when its fighting with Catnap, she still wants an challenge.
Here an example of one of her sports form
Bobby Bearhug the Guardian of Love:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Other things that I didn't add due to space:
Bobby Bearhug have the powers of healing, enchantment and love. She is able to heal multiple critters at once or strengthen them. Her attacking ability is life drain. She discover this by accident.
Due to Bobby Bearhug's pacifism, she gets injured too but not as bad as Bubba Bubbaphant.
She's has been bullied a lot, despite it all she still wants to show love. She don't really judge anyone, despite people judge her.
She does care about Dogday's situation, at the same time she just feel sympathy for Catnap.
Bobby Bearhug can cook, she mostly bakes though. Her food is delicious.
PickyPiggy the Guardian of Food:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Other things that I didn't add due to space:
PickPiggy have the power of food and mixing. That's it. She's considered the weakest critter out of all the powers. At least she can create certain foods that isn't possible.
She is not a cooker at all, despite having cooking related powers. Instead, she just be the first one at the table when the food ready. Getting large portions of foods....no wonder there's no leftovers in the fridge. (no she doesn't eat the ENTIRE cooked meal, she does let her friends get a plate too.)
■□■□■□■□■□■■□■□■□■□■□■■□■□■□■□■□■■□■□■□■□■□■
CATNAP SECTION
Now....Catnap.. well now you saw how everyone views catnap or at least treat him. Its only right to finally show him now, yes?
He needs his own separate section.
Catnap is the main antagonist of the story.
Catnap....:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Other things that I didn't add due to space?:
Truly everyone is guessing what happened to Catnap, cause no one has no clue.
Catnap powers are either the most strongest or the most weakest... I cannot pick, blame the kids. Catnap has so many powers, even god give up. His powers are the negative versions of dark, psychic, moon, and dreams. He also can send more smokes in his nightmare form, which is from his spores that's on his back. The advantage he has over everyone, his powers at night are 10x stronger....so he can take down all the critters. However the massive downgrade, at daytime, all of his powers goes bye bye, he cannot even turn forms either. He stuck back to just Catnap. Only power he can use is transporting from dark areas. So when the sunrises, he slowly turns back to normal size.
Lunar/Third Quarter Form is usually what he changes into the most, its a mix between the regular form and Nightmare's powers but not having all of its powers. This form is somewhat comic relief. This is where most the jokes be, in this form.
Nightmare form is the most strongest, as he usually do not talk in form. He either wants to put fear or he was extremely angry to change into this form.
Out of all the critters, he believes bobby bearhug is the most insane, ironic.
Catnap at first hated the boot like socks in Lunar form, but ends up being fine with it because it was comfortable.
Unlike the canon og Catnap, catnap committing evil is a complete mystery...or the fact the kids never planned one. who knows.
He has the able to put critters inside a cocoon-like substance, to make them live inside their own nightmare. The victim actually has to find the way to break out of it..somehow
He got the name Boogeyman due to teleporting underneath hoppy's bed and kidnapping her.
Catnap likes pretending to be an magician.
Past Catnap usually likes being around areas that was calm and peaceful. any interruption would startle him.
Past Catnap used go to Bobby to talk about private stuff. Not things that between Dogday and Him though.
He's the only critter in the smiling critters group to not have an enhanced form
Catnap can change his eyes at will. but nightmare form he cannot.
He owns the Lair, which the lair only appears at night. its no where to be seen at day. He got an lair later in the story because he wanted to craft his plans far away from the smiling critters sometimes.
■□■□■□■□■□■■□■□■□■□■□■■□■□■□■□■□■■□■□■□■□■□■
Now for last one its relationship between Dogday and Catnap (also my last picture i can even post i reach my limit :()
Tumblr media
Other things that I didn't add due to space:
Catnap equally insults Dogday, calling Dogday "DogStupid" because he believes that Dogday is actually stupid. Catnap actually insulted Dogday first.
Rarely, Catnap doesn't attack Dogday on certain days, as he sometimes target someone else.
Every since Dogday gained powers, Catnap been obsessed with trying to gain his powers. Mostly because he wants to torture him so that Dogday wouldn't be able to defend himself or enhance anyone no more.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
End !! now for the extras and Concepts! sorry no images.
---
Concepts/Removed:
Originally there was going be humans in the cartoon world. Because how care bears and the old MLP had humans. There was 2 humans that was along with the Smiling Critters, Oliver and Maxwell. Oilver would have blond hair pigtails and pink overalls and Maxwell had brown hair. Oliver was the confident feminine girl awhile Maxwell was a curious boy. She and Maxwell would've helped the smiling critters. Oliver would've try to fight Catnap but Catnap wouldn't even attack her, but rather put her somewhere safe.
In continuation of the humans concept, there was going be a castle way up in the sky, as the only way to access it is through a magic beanstalk. The castle had a princess named princess balloobow. She is a human with powers. She would've attempted to cure Catnap's evil but it would failed. She also would've been the one who taught Dogday on how to use his powers properly.
lastly of the human concept, in some epsiodes, The smiling critters would've travel all over the world to find the cure. having an adventure and meeting new people or critters. Catnap still would've been a villain during those adventures. They would've have got clues about the cure, the origins of Dogday's abilities, an hint about what happen to Catnap and the mystery of the current Catnap. However during those travels, Catnap would've slowly become stronger...due to collecting stuff. Dogday would've also become stronger, from looking at the ancient stuff. Sometimes in their travel, they would help people or other critters.
Catnap would've an fourth form called Disenchant form, being the opposite of enhanced form.
The original name of this au was called Nighttime with Catnap. it was also called Smiling Critters and Shenanigans.
Dogday and Current Catnap was originally considered frenemies.
~~~~~~~
Origin of this AU
This start off as an one-off joke where Dogday staying up all night playing videogames with Kickinchicken. Dogday was trying to keep himself awake until he fall asleep. As soon he woke up he was chained up on his own bed, just to find Catnap smiling at him. Catnap says he's about to punish him because he surpass his healthy sleeping schedule and decides to punish him by forcing him to watch Megamind 2. Dogday beg for mercy but Catnap turns it on, causing Dogday try to struggle to escape and scream.
----
Extras
Pickypig is the only character to even question why don't they just attack Catnap at daytime because he's basically weak. (the reason is because the smiling critters do not want to cause commotion and attract large attention from the people in the town)
Possessed Dogday exists in this au, but ill talk about it on another post. Just so you know, He did not get his body controlled in the same way the bigger bodies Dogday was.
Amber first ever toy was the poppy playtime doll. every single smiling critters came out, she abandoned her, but she still in her room.

End of the actual post ! ! this took too long, and i might forget to add certain details as usual. anyway i hope you enjoy the post, see ya

- jean - music + train/bus - modern au -
╭──────────── · · ୨୧ · ·────────────╮
I am a firm believer that Jean would absolutely adore bands like The Smiths and The Cure, listens to both religiously.
Okay, so how i imagine this would go down is that you two are sitting on the bus/train together and you suggest to him “oh lets listen to music, we have a long bus/train ride ahead of us”. You ask if you can listen to his music with him. He would be too shy to turn you down, scared that you would not really enjoy his music taste, especially as he has no idea what kind of music you listen to so he has no scale to indicate on what you may like.
You havent gotten to know each others tastes for some odd reason. The subject just has never come up, despite the fact that you are both very passionate about listening to music. Jean would be the type of person who cannot function without music. Would be the type of person to study while listening to music and gets distracted a lot, but then again it’s hard for him to just sit there and study in silence.
You can tell hes hesitant and you try to reassure him by saying that he doesn't have to say yes if he doesnt feel comfortable showing you his taste but he insists, handing you one of the earbuds. (he would have headphones but would also have wired earbuds on hand cuz hes a hopeless romantic and has been waiting for a moment like this). Anyway, things are going pretty smoothly for the first few songs, you’re both just listening in silence. but then [any smiths song] comes up and you obviously recognise it, surprised at it since its completely different to the last few songs that were playing (hed have a very mixed music taste mixd of many genres)
You are so tempted to tease him about it, but you dont wanna embarass him;
You just give him a small smile while the song plays. Your silence made him excessively anxious as you didnt say something for the whole time the song was playing until after it finished. You notice theres a long silence after said song was finished, instead of the next song playing. Side note: it is a playlist he definitely would have created for bus rides like this, having a very delusional moment at the time of making it and added the smiths; he never considered he would actually be listening to this playlist with someone else.
The reason he paused was because he wanted to get a quick look at your expression, yknow that thing you do when you look at someone and theyre stariny back at you? YEAH, that happened. the way he would look away so quickly. You still speak up and say something like "you listen to the smiths?" "yeah, were you expecting anything different?" you laugh and turn your head away which makes him nervous and question what you meant.
This act was deliberate because its funny to you seeing him all shy. You tell him that he has really good taste; you two end up discussing your music tastes for the rest of the bus ride.

Princess Makara Poole of Andros
Second Born Child of Layla and Nabu Poole
Passionate Princess
-Makara Poole is the second born of Layla and Nabu Poole, and is second in line for the throne. (Which is fine by her, less problems on her end.)
-Her birthday is March 20th, making her a Phoenix in the Magical Dimension and a Pisces on Earth.
-She and her brother both have their mom’s dark skin tone, but she does have hair like her father. A violet sort of shade.
-She keeps her hair long and prefers her ‘natural’ look. Afros, braids, dreads; she loves them all and she knows she can rock them.
-Her eyes are the same as her father’s as well. It comes with the territory, she supposes.
-She’s about 14/15 when we first meet her at Alfea.
-Like her mother and brother, she does have some mer-people qualities, but she doesn’t have a full tail or anything. (Which is a major bummer to her. But hey, fins and gills are fine.)
-(She’s more disappointed in her scale color than anything, such a boring shade of green. But it is what it is.)
-Unlike her brother, Makara is a bit more… Mischievous. She enjoys pulling pranks and causing just a bit of chaos. And because she refuses to do so alone, her cousins tend to get involved. (It’s fun and everyone ends up laughing… Usually.)
-(Honestly this is probably the reason she and Etta get along so well.)
-She does try to hold off on anything too major for galas or big events though, no need in incurring the wrath of her grandparents and her parents. (Once. That happened once and she swore never again.)
-(She’d never seen her Baba or her Grandpa so disappointed in her, and her Grandma and Dadi seemed so hurt. Not to mention how embarrassed her parents were. So never again.)
-(For those curious, she swapped out a few of the chosen menu items when she was about 8 because she thought it would be funny to see a few of the ‘stuffy older people’ swell up… That was when she learned a major lesson about allergies and how people can react to food swapping.)
-Makara loves everything and anything to do with the beach and the ocean. It’s literally in her blood.
-Swimming, surfing, diving, beach parties, sandcastle making, sailing, etc. She loves it all.
-Though if she had to have a preference; swimming and diving are her biggest loves. Feeling the water on her skin, letting her body shift with the salt water into her scales and fins; it’s the most incredible thing she’s ever felt in her life and she’s honestly addicted.
-And while she prefers swimming in the ocean, she’s fine with swimming in pools. (Though her scales and fins don’t activate outside of salt water, but that’s probably for the best.)
-(She competes in swimming competitions at Alfea, which means if she had her fins and scales, she’d be considered a cheater. So… It’s for the best.)
-Makara and Caspian, along with their cousins, are training for their tattoos. In fact, there’s a bit of a competition going on to see who gets them first. (Her money, of course, is on herself. She’s never been one to doubt.)
-(That said, their elder cousin has already completed one of the first tasks involved… But still…)
-Unlike Caspian, she only has rudimentary knowledge of how boats and ships operate. She prefers being in the water itself than being on a boat in the water. That said, she knows enough about them to keep from capsizing or getting her crew killed.
-Like her father, Makara does try to keep close to her spirituality. Meditation and prayer aren’t uncommon for her. And neither is talking to her ancestors.
-Like her mother, Makara is a sporty woman, but she’s a bit more picky about what she does and why.
-Example: for fun and games, she enjoys volleyball or MagiBall, something she can just play around with her friends doing. Group sports are awesome for this. But for something she’s willing to compete in and really try; that’s swimming and boxing.
-Boxing was a surprise for her, one her Aunt Talia got her into. Granted, she was always going to learn self-defense styles because her mom and dad were insistent just in case her magic failed, but this… This was something that hit a button for her and she loved it.
-The rush, the skill, the way it’s sort of a dance if done properly; it’s exhilarating. And she just… Falls into it.
-(Etta may or may not be one of her favorite sparring partners, simply because both girls are more than willing to go all out. And then, of course, laugh about it later while trying to heal.)
-She does enjoy some of the gymnastics and cheerleading activities, and she definitely sees how they could be important for her flexibility and spacial awareness, but they’re more Artemis and Nixie’s thing.
-Makara loves dancing, just like her mom and dad. Granted, she’s not as fond of some of their ‘dance styles’ and considers them ‘old and embarrassing’ at times, but it's a fun family thing.
-(She secretly really loves learning ballroom dances. The looks on people’s faces when they see just how she glides across the floors, it’s priceless.)
-Also like Layla and Nabu, Makara has a policy about fighting: Do No Harm, Take No Shit.
-She’s okay with letting things roll off of her like waves, that’s fine. But if you keep pressing her and pressing her, or if you decide to harm those weaker than you or pick on someone she holds dear, she’s going to throttle you or drown you. Whichever comes first.
-(She seldom throws the first punch outside of the ring, but you can best bet she’ll fight to throw the last one.)
-Makara admittedly has a one-track mind when it comes to her goals. She’s been known to throw herself completely into them and forget other tasks or responsibilities she may have. Thankfully she has such an amazing older brother and friends who help bring her out of it.
-As the second-born royal to the Androsian Throne, Makara gets a tad more leeway than her brother does when it comes to royal events or galas. Less scrutiny to her style or her decorum. Not to mention she has a few extra ‘I’ll pass on that’ cards than he does.
-(She seldom makes her brother deal with the royal pains alone, but there are a few events that she does her best to steer clear of. Sorry Bro!)
-(Makara and Nixie both have issues trying to please the politicians and royals of other realms, feeling like it’s all so fake and disingenuous. They’d rather be allowed to just speak their mind and be done.)
-Like her friends, Makara goes to Alfea for school, and she surprisingly has her own room. (She tried to convince Artemis to share with her, but the Solarian Princess needs her space.)
-(She’s okay having her own room. She is. But sometimes she does sleep on the common room’s couch. Or Etta spends the night in her room when Zephyr’s working on projects late into the night.)
-One of her favorite classes is their Ecological Science classes. She loves getting to explore new terrains and learning about the different animals and plants. Especially if they get to go into the water.
-She’s not fond of the Political or Social Graces classes she has to take with Dufour, however. Or of the Cooking classes.
-(She gets that it’s an important skill to learn, but some of the recipes they learn to make seem a bit… Much.)
-Makara’s okay with Divination and some of the History classes. She doesn’t dislike them, but she’s had more interesting classes in her life.
-(For History, her family is full of people she could talk to who actually lived through those events. And as for Divination, that’s just not something she likes messing with. But she doesn’t mind letting Etta or Lily use her for practice.)
-She does have a fondness for the Defense classes with Griselda and the Physical Education classes in general. Constantly moving and getting her body and mind involved in something just works wonders for her.
-Makara, like her mother, got into playing drums! She’s trying to start a band, but it’s not easy to find people she gets along with creatively. (Which is why she and Musa and Riven’s daughter don’t play together, they have different styles and tend to clash. Their son, however, seems to be on the same level.)
-Since Caspian is the one next in line for the throne, Makara is trying to decide on what sort of path she wants to take when she’s older.
-Perhaps an advisor? Or she could travel the realms? Run a ship? Or maybe she’ll get that band together and tour? The possibilities are endless for a dreamer like her.
-Probably. Maybe. Right?

Random Question: When did you first learn about Al and at what point did you fall down into the land of Weird Al hyperfixation?
hi mirrors! (I hope it's ok me calling you that lmk if there's something else you'd like me to call you instead!)
Ok so I first learned about al when I was a kid, about 8ish. I assume this age because I think it was around the time that Poodle Hat came out. My dad introduced me to his music. I don't think he was like, a fan? More of a casual enjoyer. When he showed me and my lil bro the songs eBay and Eat It and Fat and Like A Surgeon and Amish Paradise we were both entranced. My brother was more into him than I was then and when Straight Outta Lynwood came out he introduced me to Virus Alert and I'll Sue Ya and Don't Download This Song and also Hardware Store and I loved them all. I loved the way he made the songs funny and silly and wasn't afraid to be weird. I never really dug deeper into his music than that and for a long while I mostly forgot about him apart from occasionally jamming to those songs and enjoying it when my brother played his music and irritating the people around me by singing his lyrics over the original songs whenever I heard them.
Fast forward to right at the end of December last year. 2022 was a very Year for me and I was looking forward to it being over and moving into 2023 and was like. 2022 has gotta have one final curveball for me. Let's see what it ends up being. Then one of my mutuals on main reblogged the Germs weird al gnc af gifset. And I was shook to my core. The fact that he'd done a nine inch nails pastiche? One of my favourite bands, that I discovered after my weird al days? How had it never really occurred to me that he had an entire discography that I could now explore as an adult with a richer understanding and appreciation of wordplay, humour, composition and music in general? And how had I taken this long to realise how gender he was? How much of a formative influence on me was he without me realising at all? Is he the reason I love Hawaiian shirts, I even wondered?? A couple of days later the hyperfixation hit like a ton of bricks. Like it hit so hard that I didn't sleep at all that night. I was just listening to his songs and scrolling through @yankovic-lovers until like 10am. I think I made this sideblog around the middle of January when I knew that being normal about him was likely no longer going to be an option. Then a few days after that I happened to Google "weird al tour dates" because I love seeing live music and was curious as to whether he ever played live in the UK or not and whaddaya know? He was shortly going to be playing a show of the return of the vanity tour at the same venue I saw nine inch nails at last summer. Spooky. So of course I bought a ticket. And no word of a lie, that was one of the best shows I've ever been to, even with just the seated set. Seeing a full scale tour is now bucket list territory for me.
It's been just about seven months of Yankofreakin' It and shows no sign of slowing. I'm really taking my time with exploring his entire career outside of music and outside of his main studio albums cos I don't want it to end honestly :'). I really think he's going to be one of those artists who's going to become a solid favourite, who's going with me in some way for life even when this hyperfixation isn't so intense anymore. Feels weird to say but it feels like I was always meant to find my way back to being a fan of him, like it was inevitable, and I'm so happy that it finally happened. He's really helped me understand myself and appreciate myself more (queer autistic self-recognition through the sillygoofy Other is a powerful thing, it turns out), helped me cope with what has turned out to be another difficult year, and I absolutely adore the fan community on here - you're all utterly delightful and I'm really glad to have 'met'/shitposted with you all.
I don't think that mutual who reblogged that gifset actually knows it was their fault (lighthearted) like we've never talked so I've never had the opportunity to be like. YOU!! (insert photo of person grabbing cat who knocked over plantpot here)
TL;DR: liked him as a kid, mostly forgot about him after that and then at New Year's one of my mutuals reblogged a gifset of him sliding down a mic stand in a Trent Reznor costume and now I spend my days calling him a milf on Tumblr dot com.
Thank you for asking!!! This is a sideblog so consider this reply to be me also sending you an ask with precisely the same questions!!

Towel Scale explained
So at the end of most of my Towelket write-ups I typically have a scale that places my enjoyment of each game. Right now the scale looks like this
Warau Warawau > Yorumorukimiri = Dekapari > TK1 = TK2 > Nekoashi Otome > TK4 > Fury > TK6 > TK3 > TK5
As I've played through these games and I get to sit down and really think about them after the fact, my opinions have definitely shifted around and changed. Some games find themselves inexplicably lower or higher on the scale with each review so I figured I'd give a more compressed version of my thoughts on each game and how I really feel about them as a whole in this current time. Just as a small reference I guess :')
(Also reminder this is more of a personal enjoyment scale than a quality scale lmao)
Warau, Warawau: Still my favorite game out of all of them. Story is focused and very cleverly weaved together. First playthrough was very unique and wonderful thing to just experience. Second playthrough is when I got to recontextualize all the events unfolding which made the ending hit even harder than the first time. There was clearly a lot of effort and care put into this game and it still stands out as one of the most unique Towelket games and RPGmaker games I've had the pleasure of playing.
Yorumorukimiri and Dekapari: I put these two in the same level because honestly they both have similar qualities and flaws. Yorumorukimiri and Dekapari both have very engaging characters and storylines. There very rarely a moment where I'm not enjoying what's happening in the moment. However I believe they both have a similar issues of not really knowing what direction they want to go towards the end. Yorumorukimiri was fantastic, probably some of the best written characters in the series, however the third game attempts to conclude a story that has already been concluded and as a result ends up confused on what it wants to accomplish.
Dekapari was very fun and the story and characters never failed to grab my attention. The atmosphere of this game is just wonderful however I feel a lot of ideas it clearly had at the start just don't really get done justice by the third act which is unfortunate. But overall I feel everything else it does well easily makes up for it.
Towelket 1 and Towelket 2: I'd say these two games are pretty on par with each other. The only reason they're not any higher is just due to the fact that I think Kanao's writing and presentation have just significantly improved since these games. Their stories are both focused and end perfectly imo. I would probably recommend these two the most as an introduction to the series or anyone who just enjoys RPGmaker games at all.
Kaiketsu! Nekoashi Otome: Great game! Very good presentation and overall story. The only reason it's ranked lower is due to the fact that it's more of a funny game that also has a good story. Some characters exist purely for laughs which I don't mind at all but by default they're just not as compelling as some of the other variations of themselves. It's the game that probably made me laugh the hardest but the humor is admittedly a lot more low-brow than the funnies in later games.
Towelket 4: I definitely feel like I didn't give this game enough credit the first time around. For what it is, the story is actually pretty interesting and the cast of characters are very fun to be around. However this game is held back simply due to the fact that it's just kind of unfinished? It ends rather abruptly to the point it's infamous among the people that play these games. With some context, it's very clear that this game was meant to be apart of something much bigger but unfortunately the game that was supposed to pick up where this one left off just never happened. So instead, we're left with a pretty painful situation where this story just never got the conclusion it deserved.
Towelket Fury: This game is a broken mess and it's story is equally as broken but it's really a train wreck you can't look away from. The fact that this game managed to not immediately become lost media is astounding. It's easily the most nihilistic Towelket game and the entire story plays out like the creator just spitting out their frustrations with the world into a single RPGmaker game. However as interesting as it is, I can't say it really makes for a good story. Overall, seeing what Kanao is capable of in a good mental state is just a hundred times more engaging and valuable to me than what this game turned out to be. I don't hate it and I do still believe its one of the more interesting games out of the classic Towelkets but overall compared to the more modern and well polished games it just can't compete.
Towelket 6: Interesting start, horrid middle, dull ending. I liked the dynamic between the main three girls at the start but once Nyanyamo is removed from the story, the game just becomes really really boring. It quickly loses focus and the main characters just end up taking a backseat for most of the game. Ending is meh. It tries to do a little bit of Towelket 2 and a little bit of Towelket 1 but just lacks the context take make itself interesting or memorable.
Towelket 3: A game that would be pretty charming had if it wasn't so horrendously frustrating to actually play. It's grinding hell and the simple story fails to justify it. It's easy to get lost because a lot of the plot doesn't really follow any sort of logic. In hindsight a lot of the story and dialogue is pretty amusing but in the moment it's impossible to appreciate due to just how exhausting it is to play this game.
Towelket 5: Game is meant to be all funny no story but it just isn't very funny. Characters existed for gags and nothing else. Any semblance of story in just uninteresting when characters have spent all game being super ironic or having a single joke and constantly repeating it. Nothing else really stands out from the rest of the game. It's a painfully charmless Towelket game.

                           𝖉𝖎𝖆𝖓𝖆 𝖐𝖊𝖑𝖑𝖞
she was born fifty-five years ago, she is a human who lives in dillon as a part time assistant manager at the motel and bartender at the vault. she looks an awful lot like melissa mccarthy.
“I mean you may never be as wise as an owl but you'll always be a hoot to me!”
tw: death, murder, attempted murder, drowning, child endangerment, dementia
Personality wise, Diana could be described as a fire cracker. She is feisty and funny, she can be stubborn and bloody minded at the best of times, but she is flexible for those she cares most about. As a mother, Diana tries to give her daughter as much room as possible to grow, but on occasion her protectiveness gets the better of her and she has been known to throw down with other mums. Diana loves hard and honestly, and expects the same in return. Her standards for those in her life, specifically for those in her love life, are considerably high making her a difficult lady to land. None knows this better than one Roman Baudelaire, her "friend".
Diana is from Brooklyn, New York, and was raised predominantly by her mother. Her father appeared at birthdays and some holidays, usually dropped a load of cash in Diana's mother's lap, spent a night or two and then disappeared again. Though it sounded cold, Diana never begrudged her father's selective participation in her childhood because in truth she never lacked for love. Diana's mother was all the parent she needed, and the two got on so well that when Diana had her daughter, the three remained living together.  Diana was happy with that. The two had a strong bond, considered themselves best friends as well as mother and daughter, and this was the standard Diana strived to achieve with her own daughter.
In her mid thirties, Diana discovered she had a Lycan half brother by the name of Lucas Sanchez. Despite discovering it at such a late age, the two bonded quickly, and funnily enough Lucas - her werewolf half brother - was not Diana's first foray into the supernatural. She had in fact dated Eric Baxter, a siren from Opulence, who happens to be the father to Diana's sixteen year old daughter Ada.
The discovery of the supernatural wasn't as shocking as it should have been. When Diana was a child, her mother had told her stories of sirens who lived for eternity, unrestrained by mortal laws and trivialities like money. Her mother explained how these sirens spent their decades of life dancing with the darkest sea water creatures and playing chase to the ocean's feisty and friendly life. The way her mother had trailed off at the end of the story, that look of longing in her eyes, Diana had always mistaken for a desire for an easier life, less work, more freedom, but upon the discovery of Eric's scaled nature, she wondered if that look of longing was in fact regret.
Diana thought she might one day get answers but they came sooner than she would have liked. Her mother was diagnosed with a terminal illness; dementia, and on the last day of her humanity, Diana's mother made a call to an unknown number, hopped on a train and walked into the ocean. A year or so later, Diana and Eric rented a boat in order to take their sixteen year-old out for her birthday. Ada and Diana were both in the water when her grandmother returned from the depths and used her new siren voice to drown her family. While Eric was able to save Diana, Ada was turned siren that day.
This life changing event brought about the decision to move to Opulence, so Ada could be close to her siren father and family, and Diana could be close to her half brother.
“what power did she attain when settling in opulence?”
Unbeknownst to Diana, she is immune to the call of a Siren's song, and most other forms of magical charms.

HCs with Kyoto kids No curses collage AU
warning! grammar issues
Tumblr media
All Kyoto kids call Utahime Mom, everyone pronounces the address with a different intonation (last one was Noritoshi, he said it suddenly and quietly, which did not escape Yori's sensitive hearing)
In addition to movie nights, they all gather together in Nishimiya's room to play poker or mafia 'well, Mom, don't start, we're not going to be long at all, and this time we're not even planning to have a drunk!'
Kasumi finds it difficult to wake up in the morning when there is a lot of sun, so she chose a room with a window on the shadow side. Noritoshi's room is across the door of an empty room from her. I like to think that their dorm rooms are located exactly where the boundary between the male and female wings. Todo chose a corner back room with a sunny side because of the large windows on two walls. In the middle of the corridor next door are the rooms of Arata and Kokichi, both on the shadow side. Momo and Mai rooms, located at the end of the corridor opposite each other in light and shadow contrast, were also chosen because of the spacious windows and the importance of sunlight for Momo's plants All kyoto kids and besto friendo Yuuji chipped in for a full-scale cardboard stand with Takada for Todo's birthday. At first, Todo was very upset when the exclusive product on the site ran out in an instant and he so absurdly missed the opportunity to place an order (Todo growled, walked gloomier than a cloud while others silently watched the suffering of his soul for several days until his b-day)
Miwa and Mai have friends tattoos (this sun behind the cloud on Miwa's forearm, Mai has a cloud with rain in the same place). Nishimiya doesn't like idea of having a tattoo on her body, so Mai draws emoji with rainbow on her forearm with colored gel pens for photos every time)
Todo knows how to weave braids. Once he braided Kasumi's long hair into fishnet braids (popular in 2014). What if he had a free head for hairdressing experiments in the person of Yuki Tsukumo, I think it's funny enough
Arata loves hedgehogs, he throws videos with them to Nobara, even more often than some memes understandable only to him (Kugisaki with a satisfied smile pokes his finger at the phone screen in front of Megumi's face and says look, it's you when Yuuji is not around! But here when Yuuji is in your field of vision! Yuuji : Did someone call me?
Noritoshi likes to look at street cats. Miwa finds it endearing since she once had the opportunity to see Noritoshi sitting alone on a terrace in the backyard of their student dormitory, stroking an incredibly gentle cat on his lap. he looked relaxed. Miwa smiled. She had never seen him so serene and had simply left without daring to interrupt this comfortable moment for him
Mai failed in her attempt to upset Todo with the fact that Тakada-chan is a lesbian and nothing amorous shines for him with her, but he already knew this, and he is not in love with Тakada-chan, he just likes to watch her play out her positive image, inspiring her fans to believe in ourselves, whatever they were doing. Todo and Mai are the type of friends who often quarrel over absurd things, and not because of something serious
Todo wanted to bring Arata out on Takada's show (let him just read his favorite manga in peace), but this does not happen often, unless his best friend Yuuji is super busy, Mai spends time with girls, Kokichi and Noritoshi are reclusive together again and will never take part in it Girls get out somewhere together, it's always shopping malls, pavilions with vintage things, walking in parks on rented bicycles, not missing the opportunity to look into cozy coffee shops to warm up/cool off for seasonal drinks and desserts, trips to the ocean to wet feets in the water
Momo and Mai think Kokichi has Snow White's vibe, he has the same slightly curly dark hair and animals are also magnetized to him without fear, if this could be called a superpower Kokichi and Kasumi listen to true crime podcasts in the evenings in the shared kitchen and discuss them while cooking something for dinner on neighboring pans or discuss new ideas for a photo session with fake katana while Kokichi dyes Kasumi's hair and after a while there are still blue spots embedded in his skin on his hands
Kokichi calls Kasumi a Goddess with katana who does not believe in herself, but he believes in her, her caring hands and her bold ideas (Noritoshi shares this faith with him)
Next to Noritoshi, Kasumi no longer feels tension and fear as it was before. He turned out to be comfortable person and pleasantly cool as a fresh pillow before going to bed, so Kasumi, always warm as a wool sweater, often falls asleep on him, she likes the contrast of their body temperatures (for the first time she apologized for how awkward it was for her to doze off on his shoulder and slide her head into his lap in a dream, but Noritoshi did not express dissatisfaction and did not try to wake her up, being not against taking a nap himself). And she also likes to see his relaxed face in glasses when she wakes up
Noritoshi and Kokichi spend a lot of time together: they study, go on long walks, watch movies (they like to meticulously comment on scenes while watching and discuss what exactly the movie was shitty or vice versa good) and gamefilms (Noritoshi liked part 1 Last of us and Death stranding), they talk about everything and also silence does not cause discomfort (they are glad that Kasumi not only with them spending her free time)
When Noritoshi talks to Kasumi and sees her gaze fixed on nowhere, he calls her to once again indicate his presence and not scare her, asks if everything is okay, and, regardless of the answer, shortens the distance between them, lightly touches the top of her head with his long calloused fingers and soothingly strokes her head (he is not particularly strong in encouraging phrases), just in case, then clarifying whether the pressure of the palm was too strong. For the first time, she froze in the pose of a toy soldier and looked at him in surprise, and then smiled her little smile and lightly squeezed his wide palm so that he could understand with what force he did it, accompanying it with a brief comment 'Thank you and, uh, sorry, uh..It was like that, Kamo-kun'. Momo and Mai, watching this, were taken aback. Really? Noritoshi willingly tactilely interacts with another person? He did accidentally hit his head, or did the alien take control of his body? they pretended not to notice anything, although he was sure that no one saw this little gesture
At the evening gatherings of the girls, Momo does not get tired of theatrically sighing "how sad it is when the chicks grow up and fly away from the nest," and after that she firmly says if something happens, she is always ready to kick the ass of both guys if they somehow offend her dear friend Miwa Noritoshi makes little confessions to Kokichi about how thinks him fascinating. To which he hears once again a request to stop embarrassing him. They are both good at studying. And when Noritoshi asks about his personal methods of prolonging productivity, Kokichi insists that he join the introduction of rest into his daily routine, and not stay up until night without breaks, then he will no longer have to complain about headaches and poor sleep in the morning. Therefore, Kokichi and Kasumi go to Noritoshi to distract him from excessive study. Usually they look like impudent cats with honest eyes, carefully sit down on both sides next to him. 'Someone's smart head really needs a rest' gently whisper in ear. 'Hey, you're already asleep' low whisper in other ear. There is a lot of fatigue in Noritoshi's eyes, and, as always, he will grumble a little, sigh, slamming notebooks with notes and already pulling these two closer to him Kokichi appreciates Kasumi's willingness to keep up a conversation on a topic she doesn't really understand, or to start a monologue about how her day went, or on some topic of interest to her when he himself has exhausted his social battery and wants to be silent, calmly resting his chin on her shoulder or on the top of her head. He listens and listens to what she says, and then, after recharging, discusses with her everything he has heard before, and vice versa. No one is offended if one is silent and the other says
Noritoshi shared with Kasumi and Kokichi his indignation over his father's family, his bold dream to check out of the family registry an problems with emotions (I just adore my hc where Nori was adopted by Chosoyuki, his last name hasn't changed, but Noritoshi doesn't care, it's important that he has already stopped all interaction with his father) In the morning, Noritoshi and Kasumi practice yoga. Kasumi once tried to stand on her head, Noritoshi held her legs, repeating that he was nearby, holding her and she would not fall. And also Kas does not know how to relax in savasana, she fidgets, turns, puffs, sighs, does not know where to put her hands comfortably, it seems a little more and steam will come out of her ears like from a kettle 'You're very lively for a corpse pose. Don't suffer' Noritoshi spreads his arms invitingly to the sides. He knows that in a strong embrace Kasumi will be able to completely relax
Kokichi is trying to quit smoking because he smoke too much due to stress and the frequent purchase of cigarettes hits his wallet, and Nori doesn't like tobacco-flavored kisses. Kas also smoke, but only in two cases: sometimes she can smoke for company or when she is so nervous Kasumi understands aurally english and can speak it fluently. Thanks to foreign visitors in Kusakabe's bar, where she works, the conversational skill are not lost. When she talks to Mai and Momo, they can switch from japanese to english in kombini, which attracts the attention of other people. Also Kas helps Noritoshi with practice speaking, and when she sees that he is tired (Nori can't always recognize own fatigue), she habitually moves closer and murmured various english songs in his ear. The quality time spent with her calms his restless head before the next TOEIC exam. Todo underestimated how physically strong Kokichi turned out to be with his tall and skinny body
Todo: Why did they leave and didn't call us? May: Because they have a date, you idiot! Momo: Mai, we're actually going to go too Arata* holds out her phone to others to see* Guys look: [Miwa posted a photo in stories for friends] 'Sakura is so impossibly beautiful! I took my recluses out for a walk'
Mai and Momo have cottagecore picnic dates and go to the farm to pick strawberries and some pumpkins
Miwa has a good sense of style, in fact she doesn't have many clothes, all the outfits that she assemble look original and fresh every time, as if she really has a big wardrobe, she willingly helps Kokichi and Noritoshi assemble outfits from their existing clothes (they all have similar tastes). Arata turns to her for advice when she doesn't want to bother her big sister for nothing
Nishimiya plays the cello and she and Noritoshi play joint improvisations of cello and piano when there is time and mood
Mai sings well, just likes to be harmful at every opportunity when she is asked to sing something Noritoshi sneezes softly like a kitten (I've only heard twice in my life that people could sneeze like that, hehe it's an awesome sound)
Arata got Todo into dating sim games on behalf of a fem character Todo: Toxic bastard and you pretended to be a decent guy too! Arata: Are you already going through episode X? Nishimiya and Mai *look questioningly at Todo and look at Arata* Todo*nods and turns to the character of the game*: How many such bastards around you! But nothing, he won't do anything to us! Arata*shrugs*: I didn't know that dating sim would affect him so much
Kokichi and Arata play video games and read manga. Kokichi also helps to solve problems with his infinitely clogged internal phone memory
Kokichi in this house is the main one for fixing problems with electricity and gadgets Mai and Kokichi spend money on arcade machines and collectible capsule toys, which they then carefully store 'I see how you want to get this Mechamaru, you're just incinerating with your eyes, though your eyes aren't lasers huh. Here, take it for yourself, I already have one'
Noritoshi and Mai share an interest in surfing for them it is always a competition and a fun pastime
Mai carefully preserves about the storage of gifts (she has this in common with Kokichi), although she always grumbles "who needs these trinkets, except for the growing layers of dust on the shelves?!" Between the pages of the book lives herbarium of small bouquets that Nishimiya gave her, in a beautifully decorated cardboard box with sweets from Kas, she keeps their joint pictures from photo booths in shopping malls, shells found on the shore during their journey to the ocean, and in a cloth bag a pendant with a silver revolver from her sister (she unwraps and she holds the pendant in her hand for a long time when she feels, how terribly she misses Maki. 'Fool' she mutters without malice, squeezing the jewelry in fist harder. Momo in such episodes considers it best to leave her alone so that Mai does not hide and openly experienced this moment of sadness)
Nishimiya is a fan of american vintage clothes and hippie style jewelry, I can clearly imagine how as a child she dreamed of opening her own cute jewelry store

Oooooooh interesting.
I didn't actually think there was as much story both on the origin of the AU and in the AU itself.
I can completely relate to the associating OCs with media you've consumed recently.
Last year I watched with my parents the new Haunted Mansion movie Disney made a few years back, and the entirety of the movie I was imagining how scenes would play out if Elly & Dan were part of the cast...
Also I tend to think about them a lot when listening to music, there's certain songs I just imagine them being played by the trio. (Percussion is Trucy, Piano is Dan, Wind is Elly, chorus are 👻 Ghosts, everything else is spookily being played on its own)
I definitely did not expect Chaotic Crossover (or an early version of it) being the reason why Milo & Molly exist, I always thought it was the other way around. That's really interesting!
Also, I think you made the right choice not keeping the shelf aware aspect, I think it's more fun this way, but also having a character that knows he is the only character without a narrative and who was created only because another character was needed is a concept I don't think would work as well in a story without plot.
Or maybe I'm looking too deep into it...
I really love the idea of Charlie doing an "Sly 3 Honor among thieves" and going around the world recutting an expert team of both people she knows personally and people she has only heard about to pull off an impossible heist. But of course on an smaller scale because she's an small kid.
The way you describe the OG versions of Charlie & Milo makes me think they had a kinda light version of the Main character & Main antagonist team up dynamic, the Mario & Bowser, Sonic & Eggman kinda one, in which they are constantly bickering and making clear they are only doing it because of the circumstances, but when they are actually against a common enemy they are pulling on combo moves and are a great team, which is interesting considering Milo's roll in his story.
MILO AND CHARLIE ARE FIVE AND ASH‽‽‽‽
I know you said you were planning on reworking their story to use them in the future, but I thought you had lost interest in them and scratched them, that's actually really interesting.
Milo being the grumpy guy with a heart of gold💚
We all love a grumpy guy with a heart of gold💚
Also, there's definitely something to be said about the these four characters shaping each others mutually despite the fact that they will never know about each others existence, and impossible friendship so powerful it transcends universes.
Yeah, the "Charlie's angels AU" name is a cute pun, but the reference kinda forces the heist angle into the stories limiting the potential, in the end the change was worth it.
WHAT DO YOU MEAN THEY WOULDN'T BE IN A BAND FOR LORE REASONS‽‽‽
Does one of them have trauma from being in a band????
Is it just one of them not handling well loud noises????
Do they not know how to play instruments and that's it???
Something else entirely????
Pep I swear if it's the first one-
Also, you are going to use the band concept but not for these four‽‽‽ 👀👀👀👀
Ok CCAU having the reason for all of this characters from different universes being together being "They are just toys being played with" is really cute, like, you really didn't need to make a reason for all of those discrepancies between canon and AU but I really like that you made it anyway.
Yeah no, I definitely can't see any of the four dating each other, Charlie & Milo specifically to me have a very Bother and Sister relationship, but not the Mabel Dipper one in which they are a perfect duo who always sticks together, more of a Dib Gaz one in which they are constantly fighting, but they both know the other one doesn't really mean it and would completely jump at someone if they saw them treating them the same way.
But also you going "Her ass would never date a man" is really funny, cause like, Yeah, but I didn't expect the realization to go that way.
One of the reasons why they wouldn't date each other being "they have standards" caught me really off guard, they really went "Thank goodness I'm the only normal one here".
"I've seen plenty of characters which were,(...), forcefully pushed together in a romantic way, despite the fact that they were clearly meant to just be friends." Girl you can say you wanted to avoid making an Starco, I won't judge you.
I do wonder if you have plans for romance later down the line.
I have a feeling Milo & CJ might end up on an enemies to lovers, although it's still a bit early to judge...
I have a hard time imagining Pipper dating another member of the ADC cast if I'm being honest...
And I don't know enough about Charlie's & Molly's storyline to even know if a romantic interest would fit...
That's more or less all my thoughts on this post.
Definitely really interesting deep dive, I didn't actually expect the CCAU being such a big part of the characters, I expected it being the other way around, I know I mentioned previously but, I really can't get over the fact that they shaped each other despite the fact that they would never meat. Truly the power of friendship is a powerful one.
I really like this characters, and reading you talk about them is always so sweet, is clear you put a lot of effort in fleshing them as much as possible.
I know that in the end their stories will be something truly special.💜💜💜
Take care and have a great night and a better tomorrow!💚💜💛💙

A somewhat comprehensible essay about how the Chaotic Crossover AU was created
Word count: Around 3000 words.
Approximated reading time: 25 minutes.
Summary: Me explaning my weird thought process and the string of ideas that lead to the Chaotic Crossover AU. I wrote the essay for fun, don't take it too seriously. I'm totally not saying that because I went off topic a few times.
It's seperated into 10 sections so that it'll be easier to read. This is my first attempt at posting a longer piece of my writing as well as an essay, I tried to make it interesting and entertaining.
I hope you'll enjoy! 💚💛💜💙

It was around some point at the beginning of the year 2023 that my mom and I randomly decided to watch the movie Ocean's 8 together. I'm usually really picky about movies because my attention span is terrible and if I get bored I don't wanna watch anymore, but when she told me it was about a heist I was hooked. I love heist movies, I always did, and I loved this movie too, it's fun and actually funny and charismatic, with a decent twist to it that I won't spoil, but I definitely do recommend that you give it a watch.
Anyways, that day changed everything. The moment the movie was over, the moment that I went upstairs to my room, I had no real idea what I was getting myself into. I put on my headphones, put on "Mission Impossible Theme - Electric Guitar Cover by Kfir Ochaion - ALP Guitars" on loop, I took my purple hula hoop and I started to pace around my room trying to come up with ideas while spinning it around like a weird stim toy. Ideas for what, you may ask?
For my oc's to be in a heist together, of course.

You see, my mind is very easily influenced. That's definitely not a good thing to be honest, but I don't know how to phrase it differently. Basically, whenever I watch something I immediately start thinking of oc ideas that have something to do with it. If I watch a movie about cowboys I'll be trying to make a cowboy au in my head, If I watch a movie about a royal ball I'll be imagining them all dolled up at a fancy event.
You can bet your ass, that I, heist movie fanatic, wanted my oc's to be in a heist together real bad. Thing is... at the time, I had a teeny tiny little problem that made this idea a little difficult...
I literally only had two oc's to work with.
Those two being Charlie and Mina.
The girlies. The legends. The og's.
...but yeah, still. Two oc's isn't a lot to work with. I did have Charlie as a plot starter, she's literally a thief, of course she'd want to go on a badass heist to steal a bunch of valuables. But how on earth would Charlie convince Mina of all people to go on a heist with her?
Besides... these two are a fun duo, but they're not entertaining enough on their own, seeing only the two of them interact constantly will get bored real quick...
But did you think that stopped me, dear reader? Oh no, no no no no no. I didn't let go of this concept. I felt a mighty need. I NEEDED to see a group of my own special little guys on a wacky heist together.

In an act of desperation, I literally thought about bringing back my old Ducktales oc's and the Club Penguin oc's I had recently scraped. The Club Penguin oc's were a no go, I firmly decided to turn those into humans and to work on them at some point in the future. As for the Ducktales ones, I'd have to rewatch an entire show to be able to properly rewrite and redesign them and I didn't feel like doing that...
...but then, I remembered two oc ideas that were lingering in my mind, waiting to be thought of. A Making Fiends oc, which I did try to create but ultimately scraped the idea of cuz I couldn't make the design look right, and a Welcome Home oc concept, of a sleep themed character with a moon head.
While I was going to start to work on the Welcome Home one, I still didn't wanna tackle the Making Fiends one. So, in my mind, I firstly created a weird meta version of the au we know today.
I started to design and slowly form a personality for moon girl. While I was doing that, I added her to the heist even though she was nowhere near done yet.
As for the Making Fiends guy... well, he was going to be a self aware scraped character who was supposed to be able to exist only in this au, and nowhere else. It was supposed to be an universe where everyone is self aware that they're characters, and that I, their creator, exist.
The guy was supposed to be very mad at me specifically at all times, because the girls got their own lores and stories in their og universes, meanwhile his only role is to fill up space in a heist scenario.
I remember getting the idea that, before I even post about these two, that I should create a series of fake screenshots where I'd showcase these two without explaining who they are, as a sorta little thing that only I would really understand the context of.
...and this is where things changed.
For fake screenshots you need fake scenarios, for fake scenarios you have to imagine the characters interract.

The very first idea I had for this was Charlie, excitedly breaking into the guys house and then trying to convince him to join her crazy heist plan, and him of course not wanting to.
It was this bickering that I really liked. It was this bickering that I found insanely entertaining.
It was this bickering that ultimately saved both Charlie and Milo as characters.
These two are at their BEST, when they have someone to go against, a rival. Someone to argue and fight with. These two basically shaped each other as characters.
Most of Milo's personality was created while I imagined him arguing with Charlie like they're in a Danganronpa trial. And while Charlie's personality didn't change, it definitely expanded. The Charlie from a year ago isn't the Charlie we have now.
Also, I gotta add this, Charlie and Milo are basically Ash and Five but in a different font, I have realized that only later on, and I really love this dynamic. I won't explain who those two are in detail, if you know you know.
So, we have established that these two helped and pushed each other to become the best versions of themselves.
But let's be real, there ain't no way in hell Charlie's gonna convince Milo, even the Milo we have today, to participate in a heist that easily.
So, what does Charlie do?
Drag moon girl into it, of course.

I thought to myself... huh, what if Mr. Serious had a soft spot for moon girl? And then Milo proceeded to shape Molly's character into place, with one of the most beloved dynamics I've made so far. Molly changed Milo a lot too, of course.
Molly is the thing that made me realize that Milo is at his second best when he has someone to care for, someone to love. Eventually this love did spread to Charlie and Mina as well, but he doesn't show it towards them the same way.
Charlie and Molly changed each other in a way that made me realize that Molly is at her best when she has someone to lead her. A lot of Charlie's personality came to be from me imagining her explaining something to Molly in a cool leader type of way.
And then there's Mina. Now you're gonna say, Mina's the odd one out. Mina's the only one who hasn't changed at all since I first introduced her.
Mina has changed, she just changed the least. All three of them shaped her character to be more caring and less cold, which isn't very obvious... given that it's Mina we're talking about.
Heh... I guess ya could say, that she was too lazy to change any more than that. Mina's the most simple character out of all of them, I don't wanna change that too much. Her simple character is fine, and it's at it's best when it's put together with complicated characters. And welp, we got three complicated mfs right here.
All of these dynamics were born while I was imagining them in the heist scenario. You forgot about the heist already, didn't you? I can't blame you, I did too... for a long time.

I just started to imagine them in different scenarios and those kinda made me forget about the heist one, but, within this au the heist thing did happen... well, it was supposed to.
Basically the au began with them all just being thrown into this white room with four doors lined up before them. Each of them had a missing item from their inventories that they wanted to get back. They got to know each other a little while they were going through each other's universes, they found the items and that was it for a while.
Until Charlie found that a new door showed up in the room. The door lead to the front of a giant building, which turned out to be some rich guy's massive mansion. And of course the mansion was full of valuables that Charlie wanted to get her hands on, but failed attempt after failed attempt... she just couldn't get in.
That's when she realized that it would be far easier if she had someone with her... y'know, preferably three people. And boom she's at it with the convincing. Mina agrees cuz she wants to avoid another one of her aunts weedings, Molly agrees cuz Charlie told her that it's a good thing that they're doing this, Milo agrees cuz Molly is a part of it, and because he's baffled that she managed to drag Mina into it.
And because they were like in a heist together I almost called the au the "Charlie's Angels AU". Because y'know... there's Charlie who's conveniently named that, and the other three who's names all start with an M. I honestly still think it'll be a clever name for some sorta au, but I went for the name Chaotic Crossover AU because it's more simple and it explains what the au is about better. Besides, I feel like if I actually went for the title that's a movie reference I'd have to constantly stick to the whole heist thing or otherwise it wouldn't make much sense.
The only other type of name I considered before I went for the one we have today, is something along the lines of MMCM AU. Maybe the letters were arranged differently, I honestly don't exactly remember. Yeah, I didn't get too creative with this one, it honestly sounds like a band name to me... and yes, I did consider making a band au but nah, I'm going to use the band concept for something else. Also there's lore reasons as to why these 4 wouldn't really be capable of being in a band together.
So they meet up to create a plan, they have fun chatting and messing around for the whole day, only to find that the door which Charlie talked about dissapeared. She wasn't lying about it, she even took pictures as proof.
But, oh well, does is matter that much anyways? Maybe the real treasure... the real heist, was the friends we made along the way.
And, it was.

Besides this beginning, there is no other plot to this au.
The rest of it is just them mindlessly having fun with each other as I put them into random scenarios and funky outfits.
I said this somewhere before, but, the au has no actual ending or middle, just a beginning.
Time doesn't flow the same, they're just meant to stay the same age, time has been stopped, basically.
There was supposed to be a plot at some point, but I realized that I would spoil a lot of stuff from their actual canon stories, and I am always overly cautious with not spoiling people.
Also, the characters here don't line up 100% with their canon counterparts, even if they do for the most part, because I erased their canon problems for the sake of having them be actually happy unlike their canon selves.
Thing is, to what extent did I erase these problems?
Because, for some of them, if I erase the problem then they're not the same character anymore...
So it's basically a weird situation where they are and aren't themselves...
...I'm losing you, aren't I? Yeah, I'm losing it too.
What am I trying to say?
I'm trying to explain in a comprehensive way that the Chaotic Crossover AU makes no logical sense.
...unless, you hear me out about the explanation I came up with because I feel the need for everything to magically make sense.

I present to you,
The Dollhouse Explanation
Which says, that the oc's in this au, are doll versions of the actual characters.
1. The white room with the doors is actually a dollhouse. Every universe they go to is me adding another playset to it.
2. Molly, Mina, Milo and Charlie are dolls. I play with them, making up roleplays and scenarios. I dress them up in different outfits very often, like one does with dolls.
3. They don't age because they're dolls and dolls don't age, so it seems as if time has stopped.
Could some of this apply to the act of making oc's and stories in general?
Yeah.
Does this change anything about the au?
No. Not really.
Why did I add this to the essay?
I showed it to my friend and she said that I should keep this part so I'm taking her word for it.
(She doesn't have Tumblr or other socials but shout-out to her!)
Have I watched too many theory videos on YouTube?
Yeah.
Should I stop?
Yeah, but we both know that I won't. :)
Also, the au was inspired and influenced by cartoons in danganronpa, which is basically a giant crossover in itself.
I'm saying this because, like in cidr, the characters and designs clearly aren't from the same universes, they still kept the each individual art styles from the shows, and I really liked the look of it. But, you could still tell that the sprites are from the same project because of the lineart and shading. It's the same situation in this au.
Tumblr media

...this is a cursed addition to this essay that I, on one hand, don't wanna cover cuz Part A of it is the cringiest and worst development fact about the au and I've kinda wanted to just pretend it never happened, but it influenced Part B in a way as to where I can't not mention it, and also I find Part B incredibly interesting.
Ok, so, Milo was always pansexual, but Charlie used to be bisexual before I settled on her being a lesbian.
...I'm just gonna rip the bandage off, Milo x Charlie was supposed to be a thing.
I know, I know, eugh. Look, I will think of many romantic character combinations just in case I might hit the jackpot, I like to explore romantic dynamics as much as platonic ones.
And, for like... a month, I was genuienly planning to make these two slowly get crushes on each other, I was gonna hint towards it with some sorta ship art.
But then, I was reconsidering things.
I started to contemplate the meaning of life, as well as all of my life choices and how they affected my life, me and my oc's. I looked into the distance, and then I took one, good, longggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggg, look at Charlie. And then, finally, like a light at the end of the tunnel, my critical thinking skills tapped me on the shoulder.
I turned around.
"Her ass would never date a man." it said. I nodded, and shed a tear. It may have taken me too long to realize it, but at least I did.
And that's the story of how Charlie became a lesbian instead! :D
Tumblr media

And no, before you ask, Charlie wouldn't like Milo in that way even if he was female, or when he's presenting himself as more feminine like in the one purple design I made for him. She doesn't find him appealing in a romantic way at all. Same goes for Milo with Charlie.
Besides, both have standards... and different types.
Their relationship is far more interesting and genuine if it's presented from a purely platonic perspective, which it is, and which it always will be.
Basically, they're besties, your honor. Case closed.
The same thing goes for another ship I considered while I was still figuring out everyone's sexualities, Charlie x Mina.
I admit, I hate this one less, but still, it's the same situation.
They're besties, your honor. Case closed yet again.
Ever since I decided to keep it all platonic, thank heavens I did, I've always had this underlying fear in the back of my head that, somehow, people are still going to see it as romantic. I remember when I made the drawing of Milo and Charlie standing next to each other in greaser inspired outfits, I was like, oh crap, are ppl gonna see them as a couple?
But no one did. A decent amount of people saw it, and no one said a thing.
And I think that's nice. Beautiful, even.
I've seen plenty of characters which were, if you ask me, forcefully pushed together in a romantic way, despite the fact that they were clearly meant to just be friends. Having this sense of control over things, being able to determine the right path for these oc's, it gives me a sense of peace and satisfaction.
Everything is in its place.
Balanced, as it should be.
Anyways let's talk about how this decision made everyone in this au absolutely unshippable with each other in every conceivable way.
1. Molly is an adult the other three are kids if you don't think this is a no go get the fuck away from my blog.
2. Mina is aroace and would never be in a romantic relationship, so that's a no go too.
3. The only two left are Milo and Charlie. Charlie is a lesbian and since Milo is a guy that's a no go.
This happened completely on accident and I realized it on accident too, but I'm not complaining.
Hooray to friendship! Hooray to platonic love! Hooray to platonic relationships!
They're just as valuable and beautiful and powerful as romantic ones!
Go tell your friends or family or partner or pet you love them!
You'd be surprised how happy they'd be to hear it.

WATCH ‘THE KING’S AFFECTION’
(This is based entirely on my own scale/interests ymmv etc)
Premise: Fearing the stigma of a boy sharing a womb with a girl, the newborn princess was ordered to be secretly murdered along with everyone who knew of her existence. Successfully smuggled from the palace, she knows nothing of her origins or her twin brother until she begins working in the palace as a maid, and finds she bears an uncanny resemblance to the Crown Prince. When the Prince is accidentally murdered in her stead, she must take his place and navigate the constant dangers of the palace in order to keep her secret safe.
Tumblr media
Only....now there is a new tutor in the palace....who is putting that secret in danger????
Tumblr media
Is It Gay: Despite the first episode threatening some straight nonsense to undermine the initial premise (seriously, there’s a lot of necessary set up in ep1 but it is ROUGH), this show is DELIGHTFULLY queer. Prince Hwi has been living as a man since she was 10 to impersonate her dead brother, and Tutor Jung who eventually falls in love with her falls in love with her as a MAN. And instead of him having a no homo panic about it, he has a completely understandable panic about his crush being THE KING. OH NO IT CAN NEVER BE!!! Honestly so many times this show could have turned sour fast and it DIDN’T EVER DISAPPOINT. When she has to “go undercover” as a woman? She is not insto-presto “girly” and in fact is visibly uncomfortable in women’s clothes! There are gender identity issues! Bi feelings! Trans allegories! The Queen might be a lesbian, honestly! 10000/10
Tumblr media
Does the boy cry: Oh. Do 👏 these 👏 boys 👏 cry. 👏 At one point Tutor Jung has had such a rollercoaster of the day his face is literally swollen from ugly crying while Hwi smiles gently at him and pats his hand. mmmmyes/10
Women: At no point is Hwi shown as less capable than the men. In fact, she is consistently shown as a BETTER SWORD FIGHTER than her love interest, which not only makes sense from a goddamn practical perspective but also is so desperately lacking in most media that it made me want to eat my own hands. There are multiple female characters with their own wants and desires, and though I wish they were a little less focused on the men(?) in their lives I also understand being this palace-adjacent means romance is often a life or death political game they have to play. 10/10
Tumblr media
Bonus: No freaking love triangles. NONE!!! Even when Tutor Jung’s BFF Dimples is also (understandably) in love with Prince Hwi, they never ever fight over who will “win!” Dimples knows he’s not in the running and doesn’t get pissy about it!! WHAT A CONCEPT. OT3/10
Bonus?: Everyone in this show is rolling constant Nat1s on their perception checks. Both hilarious and at times infuriating.
Minus: There is a rotation of three pop songs that turn the show into music videos at the drop of a hat. Genuinely probably added an entire episode’s length of time onto the show. This could be fixed with a drinking game - more funny than distracting, and at times used incredibly well.
ENDING: Solid, solid, solid. Deeply satisfying, successfully managed to make us gasp and sweat and laugh and cry. A+++
IN CONCLUSION: WATCH THE KING’S AFFECTION ON NETFLIX

So let's talk about the Lost Generation.
This is the generation that came of age during WWI and the 1918 flu pandemic. They witnessed their world collapse in the first war that spread around the globe, and they -- in retrospect, optimistically -- called it the "war to end all wars". And that war was a quagmire. The trenches on the Western Front were notoriously awful, unsanitary and cold and wet and teeming with sickness, and bloody battles were fought to gain or lose a few feet of territory, and all because a series of alliances caused one assassination in one unstable area to spiral into a brutal large-scale war fought on the ground by people who mostly had no personal stake in the outcomes and gained nothing from winning.
On some of the worst-hit battlefields, the land is still too toxic for plant growth.
And on the heels of this horrific war, a pandemic struck. It's often referred to as "the Spanish flu" because Spain was neutral in the war, and so was the first country to admit that their people were dropping like flies. By the time the warring countries were willing to face the disease, it was far too late to contain it.
Anywhere from 50 to 100 million people worldwide would die from it. 675,000 were in the US.
But once it was finally contained -- anywhere from a year to a year and a half later -- the 20s had begun, and they began roaring.
Hedonism abounded. Alcohol flowed like water in spite of Prohibition. Music and dance and art fluorished. It was the age of Dadaism, an artistic movement of surrealism, absurdism, and abstraction. Women's skirts rose and haircuts shortened in a flamboyant rejection of the social norms of the previous decades. It was a time of glitter and glamour and jazz and flash, and (save for the art that was made) it was mostly skin deep.
Everyone stumbled out of the war and pandemic desperate to forget the horrific things they'd seen and done and all that they'd lost, and lost for nothing.
Reality seemed so pointless. It's not a coincidence that the two codifiers of the fantasy genre -- J.R.R. Tolkein and C.S. Lewis -- both fought in WWI. In fact, they were school friends before the war, and were the only two of their group to return home. Tolkein wanted to rewrite the history of Europe, while Lewis wanted to rebuild faith in the escape from the world.
(There's a reason Frodo goes into the West: physically, he returned to the Shire, but mentally, he never came back from Mordor, and he couldn't live his whole life there. There's a reason three of the Pevensies can never let go of Narnia: in Narnia, unlike reality, the things they did and fought for and believed in actually mattered, were actually worth the price they paid.)
It's also no coincidence that many of the famous artists of the time either killed themselves outright or let their vices do them in. The 20s roared both in spite of and because of the despair of the Lost Generation.
It was also the era of the Harlem Renaissance, which came to the feelings of alienation and disillusionment from a different direction: there was a large migration of Black people from the South, many of whom moved to the Harlem neighborhood of New York City. Obviously, the sense of alienation wasn't new to Black people in America, but the cultural shift allowed for them to publicly express it in the arts and literature in ways that hadn't been open to them before.
There was also horrific -- and state-sanctioned -- violence perpetrated against Black communities in this time, furthering the anger and despair and sense that society had not only failed them but had never even given them a chance. The term at the time was shell-shock, but now we know it as PTSD, and the vast majority of the people who came of age between 1910 and 1920 suffered from it, from one source or another.
It was an entire generation of trauma, and then the stock market crashed in 1929. Helpless, angry, impotent in the face of all that had seemingly destroyed the world for them, on the verge of utter despair, it was also a generation vulnerable to despotism. In the wake of all this chaos -- god, please, someone just take control of all this mess and set it right.
Sometimes the person who took over was decent and played by the rules and at least attempted to do the right thing. Other times, they were self-serving and hateful and committed to subjugating anyone who didn't fit their mold.
There are a lot of parallels to now, but we have something they didn't, and that's the fact that they did it first.
We know what their mistakes and sins were. We have the gift of history to see the whole picture and what worked and what failed. We as a species have walked this road before, and we weren't any happier or stronger or smarter about it the first time.
I think I want to reiterate that point: the Lost Generation were no stronger or weaker than Millennials and Gen Z are today. Plenty of both have risen up and fought back, and plenty have stumbled and been crushed under the weight. Plenty have been horribly abused by the people who were supposed to lead them, and plenty have done the abusing. Plenty of great art has been made by both, and plenty of it is escapist fantasy or scathing criticism or inspiring optimism or despairing pessimism.
We find humor in much the same things, because when reality is a mess, both the absurd and the self-deprecating become hilarious in comparison. There's a reason modern audiences don't find Seinfeld as funny as Gen X does, and many older audiences find modern comedy impenetrable and baffling -- they're different kinds of humor from different realities.
I think my point accumulates into this: in spite of how awful and hopeless and pointless everything feels, we do have a guide. We've been through this before, as a culture, and even though all of them are gone now, we have their words and art and memory to help us. We know now what they didn't then: there is a future.
The path forward is a hard one, and the only thing that makes it easier is human connection. Art -- in the most base sense, anything that is an expression of emotion and thought into a medium that allows it to be shared -- is the best and most enduring vehicle for that connection, to reach not just loved ones but people a thousand miles or a hundred years away.
So don't bottle it up. Don't pretend to be okay when you're not. Paint it, sculpt it, write it, play it, sing it, scream it, hell, you can even meme it out into the void. Whatever it takes to reach someone else -- not just for yourself but for others, both present and future.
Because, to quote the inimitable Terry Pratchett, "in a hundred years we'll all be dead, but here and now, we are alive."
#politics#us politics#optimism#history#humanism#gnu terry pratchett#(i suppose. i do think that i wouldn't be able to think of this in this way without - for example - having read small gods.)#which also sort of illustrates the point? i mean sir terry has been dead five years but his words live on to inspire even now#i've gotten a lot of humbling responses to 'such selfish prayers' that echo that sort of sentiment - and more recently - that just reiterate#to me how important art is in connecting to others#i mean.... i wrote that fic four years ago when i was myself going through a tough time and it may seem like i Had I Together but really#i was writing out what i desperately needed to hear; what i wanted to be told#that's why it is on occasion a little... unfair to aang perhaps (although i think that's more in the writing than the intent)#i was dealing with the end of that kind of relationship - where he wasn't evil and it wasn't bad but we were just *wrong* for one another#and he wanted to get back together and i may even have said to a friend at the time what katara does to iroh about 'i thought he was ready#to be frienda again. *i* was ready to be friends again.'#and especially the last chapter was me writing out what i needed to believe. i distinctly recall thinking 'maybe this is too idealistic.'#before deciding that if ever there was a time for ideals it was that moment. i *needed* the ideals. i *needed* that katara.#and that's clearly resonated with a lot of people and that makes my heart so full i don't even know how to respond#art is how we connect with one another; it's how we survive these trials and help each other through#art is always valuable if only for its sake#i'm trying so hard to get into writing again but mostly what i've been finishing is essays like this. and i suppose that's enough for now#but i need to create again; to express. i have this scream swelling in my chest and it needs to get out and be heard.

This is based on this prompt from @dragonofthedepths. Fun fact: part of it was, in fact, written in a hospital. Not the greatest way to check your fic for accuracy, let me tell you.
---
Dawn had played a lot of video games with Barry in her youth. Games with magical fairy-inspired guides or mysterious waifs that teased a player with breadcrumbs of information as the plot progressed. Games in which the tutorial held your hand a little too much, or whose advice was obtuse to the point of uselessness.
She’d never expected to find herself smack dab in the middle of one such setting, aided by a ghost who couldn’t have clashed with the landscape any more if he’d tried-- but that was perfectly fine, since nobody else could see him.
It was counter to everything she’d learned from the media form when her quest ended-- with Volo and Giratina both defeated at the crest of the Spear Pillar-- and nothing happened on that front. Usually there was some kind of goodbye at the conflict’s end, whether tearful or long awaited, but no; Dawn continued to live her life in Hisui, dutifully filling out her Pokedex as Galaxy Team’s most haunted surveyor.
Not that she wanted the Conductor to leave her! He’d been the single biggest factor making her stay bearable-- someone to commiserate to in matters she couldn’t discuss openly, who’d stuck with her when Jubilife had wiped their hands of her, the only one who actually knew her name. It just… it didn’t resolve anything. They were no closer to understanding why she and the Nobles could see him when others couldn’t. They didn’t have any idea why he was in Hisui when everything about him screamed that he was from somewhere-- and likely, somewhen-- else entirely. They didn’t even have the first inkling who he was or what his name might have been. The most they could work from was a stringent adherence to the concept of ‘safety first’ and the railway jargon he couldn’t help but pepper into every other sentence.
Hence her name for him. He’d acted as her guide through Hisui, he talked like a rail enthusiast, he was the Conductor.
Or Ducky, if she was feeling… well, ducky.
And even now-- even with the Pokedex complete and Arceus defeated-- the status quo had not changed. Sure, she was back in her time of origin, but she wasn’t home; she was in a foreign land again, still visibly a fish out of water as she listened to the guiding words of a man nobody else could see.
At least back then she’d had a baseline as to the native Pokemon, but not here.
Fortunately, the Conductor was inexplicably knowledgeable whenever she asked after a Pokemon or started down a dead end. It had made sense in Hisui-- he’d spent two years as an invisible observer prior to her arrival, so of course he could offer helpful insights-- but didn’t add up in Unova. It seemed to indicate that he’d been here at some point, but, of course, he couldn’t confirm or deny.
They would get to the bottom of it, Dawn decided. Just as soon as they made it somewhere with a Pokemon Center.
Unfortunately, they’d landed in front of a remote shrine, and the only town they’d passed through thus far boasted limited services within what was clearly some manner of battle facility. While she didn’t doubt she could compete, fighting her way up a giant tree was not on Dawn’s agenda for the time being; the Conductor seemed oddly interested, though, which marked it as a site to revisit at a later point in time.
It could wait until she made it somewhere she could call home, though.
Eventually, after a bridge, a close call on a rocky cliff face, and being steered away from a forest, they made it to a city.
And not just a city-- a massive city! It was so far removed from anything in Hisui that it wasn’t even funny. Dawn didn’t even know if anywhere back in modern-day Sinnoh was of a similar scale. Maybe-- maybe-- it was roughly comparable to Veilstone, with its department store, or the bustling port of Sunyshore, but even compared to the most lively Sinnoan cities, this place still felt enormous.
It was overwhelming, and, even though he tried to help, the Conductor’s innate sense of direction led them not to the Pokemon Center Dawn had been hoping for, but some kind of public transport. She shouldn’t have been surprised; ever since they’d gotten here, he’d been able to drift through the landscape with a vague sense of recollection, but any specific requests were too far out of his ephemeral knowledge base.
And, so, she’d made a mistake. As she’d often done when studying-- or fleeing from-- Pokemon, she’d asked him to scout ahead, to see if he’d be able to find their end destination without the limits imposed by the physical world. Dawn hadn’t counted on just how much busier the city was, how much harder it might be to pick a person out of the omnipresent crowds or how damningly easy it would be to drift along them, unaware of what she was doing. Before she knew it, she wasn’t outside the row of shops they’d diverged before, but nestled among patrons of a fairground.
She didn’t know how she’d gotten here. She didn’t know how to get back.
She tried once, in vain, to call for her friend, but it was immediately swallowed by the din of modern life.
For the first time since that emphatic promise that she wouldn’t be alone in Hisui, Dawn wanted to cry.
---
The Conductor didn’t know much, but he knew proper procedure if one was lost in an unfamiliar environment. It hadn’t done him much good when he’d awoken in Hisui, absent everything that made a human human, but better late than never, he supposed.
He’d been unable to locate a Pokemon Center within a reasonable amount of time, and returned to where he’d split from Dawn to find her gone. Though he hated phasing through other people, he hadn’t had much of a choice as he sifted through the crowd, trying to work out where she might have been shunted to the side. When night began to fall and he hadn’t had any luck, he was forced to conclude that the strategy wouldn’t lead to any meaningful result; while common sense dictated that one was more likely to regroup where they’d lost their companion, he dearly hoped that Dawn would have better sense than to return here after dark.
So he’d done the next best thing: he gone back to seeking out a Pokemon Center. It was the one landmark they’d been looking for since arriving here, and what Dawn had specifically asked him to find for her. If it was so important, surely she’d look for it on her own.
If he could find it, there was a good chance he’d be able to locate her, as well.
Unfortunately, he wasn’t entirely sure what a Pokemon Center was. There was a lingering sense of asylum that he couldn’t explain, but he didn’t know what purpose it served, beyond being a place Dawn could theoretically contact her family. He’d been told he would know it by the red roof, and while the darkness didn’t make navigating by color alone ideal, the streets here were brighter than even Jubilife Village’s after sunset. While he hadn’t found success before, given enough time, he could do this.
He could and he did. But there was still no sign of Dawn.
After some observation, he concluded that a Pokemon Center was a place to rest and heal. With a further hour’s study, his understanding grew to include the fact that people-- specifically people who traveled with Pokemon-- could find shelter here for the night. It was entirely possible that Dawn really was here, and the late hour had forced her to find a place to sleep.
While there was nothing stopping him from searching to see if that was true, he absolutely could not, under any circumstance, trespass on another’s space uninvited.
And so he waited in the facility’s main body, watching the trickle of people who sought assistance in the deepest hour of night-- watching as it opened into a stream of bodies departing for the day. He stayed stationed there, where he could pick out every face as they exited the temporary lodging, until morning had well and truly passed.
With a sinking heart, he realized his companion might not have made it here.
He didn’t know what to do.
---
The last several days had been incredibly hectic for Emmet, in spite of the fact that he’d spent exactly half of one shift at Gear Station.
It could largely be chalked up to the fact that, midway through said shift, an anomaly had been reported along the green line. Isadore and Ramses had been sent out to survey the area, but only made it a handful of minutes before hastily calling in, reporting that Emmet needed to get over there, asap.
That was when fear had first clenched his heart, and it had yet to relinquish its grasp.
Because, when he’d arrived onsite, he’d found exactly what he’d afraid of: his brother was laying, limp and unresponsive, along the tunnel floor. In the moment, it hadn’t mattered that he looked none the worse for wear-- only that he was still and silent.
With the gentle rise and fall of Ingo’s chest, however, hope managed to slip through anxiety’s hold on Emmet.
That had been days prior. There had been no change in the time since, no indication that his twin would wake, and with doubt constricting his every move, Emmet was beginning to resent the space that tiny bit of hope occupied. He’d had days to pose every question imaginable, from the practical to the grandiose-- what was going on, why couldn’t his brother wake up, why would the universe return him only to keep them apart?
So when that same universe forwarded a message from the local precinct-- non-emergency, but concerning the outdated missing persons case-- Emmet had had enough of asking questions that might never see an answer. He tasked Haxorus with guard-dragon duty and marched down to meet the responding officer and her witness in the waiting room.
The girl was vaguely familiar-- in a way that neither he or Ingo would likely work out until they pooled their information-- but it seemed the same couldn’t be said for him. Her eyes widened the instant she realized who she was looking at and a hand gravitated toward her mouth. Officer Jenny didn’t touch as she steered her away, to an aside room, and Emmet had to grant her points for that, at least.
Dawn’s story was this: she’d been stranded in Unova with only a friend at her side. They’d been lost for days-- “kind of”-- and, upon reaching Nimbasa City, had gotten separated. The kicker was that, once she’d found safe harbor at the station and was asked to describe her missing companion, she’d described Ingo. Perfectly. She hadn’t used his name-- hadn’t even known his name-- but every detail she included matched.
Only that wasn’t possible. If she’d been in Unova for longer than a week, maybe, but for the first time in years, Emmet knew exactly where his brother was. He couldn’t have been wandering around with Dawn when he was out cold in a hospital bed. And how could they have been lost if it was Ingo with her? The two of them worked in regional transportation, for the dragons’ sake; the idea that he could’ve gotten lost so close to home was laughable.
When he voiced this skepticism, Dawn went quiet. Understandable-- he’d all but kneecapped her story-- but, instead of insisting, she took up the burden of asking questions. Why was he here, in a hospital? How long had his brother been here? And for what? Did they know why Ingo wouldn’t wake up?
He kept his smile in place, but was keenly aware of the edge to it. Emmet might have excused himself shortly thereafter, if Officer Jenny hadn’t stepped away to answer a call at the same moment.
“He’s not there.” Dawn said bluntly, as soon as the door shut. “That’s why-- it’s just his body. The rest of him was helping me.”
Emmet raised a single, doubtful brow.
Frustrated, she set a hand on either side of her bandana and briskly ruffled her hair, “That’s kind of what I thought when we met, you know? That he was a ghost. I guess I was kinda right.”
“A ghost.” Emmet echoed, and while there was still a dubious hint to the twist of his lips, his mind kicked into overdrive.
Dawn didn’t seem to catch onto the fact. “It didn’t explain a ton, but that was the only way some stuff made any sense. Ghost Pokemon can disappear and float through stuff, so-- uh?”
She stopped abruptly, waylaid by the pokeball Emmet set on the tabletop between them.
“This is Chandelure.” He said without preface, “She is Ingo’s partner Pokemon. She is also a ghost. I believe she may be able to test your theory.”
“Chandelure,” Dawn echoed, testing the syllables, wondering, “I think he remembered her. A little.”
There was a beat of silence. Dawn winced at her gaffe.
“Explain.”
Looking firmly off to the side, Dawn’s hands found one another, tangling together nervously, “That’s the other thing that made sense if he was a ghost. He didn’t really… know anything about himself? I didn’t even get his name until Officer Jenny showed me the missing person flier. The only things that ever came back were someone he battled next to and a fire type Pokemon. I thought it was just… part of being dead or something.”
“He is not dead,” Emmet snapped for the umpteenth time, more out of habit than because she needed to be told.
“Yeah,” She said, immediately, but with an unexpected softness to her voice, “Yeah, I think you’re right.”
---
He hadn’t meant to become so thoroughly misplaced. Truthfully, he hadn’t.
It was just… there was a Pokemon.
That didn’t explain it satisfactorily; there were Pokemon everywhere, of all shapes and sizes, but not like this. Some rang a distant bell, but this one-- this one was so achingly familiar. The wrought iron limbs and perfect globe of its body, the flickering purple flame at its core-- he’d suffered a vague recollection of it, once, but the experience had been difficult to weather.
Parts seemed… different, but not necessarily wrong, and the Conductor had found himself trailing after it without quite meaning to. Like all others, the Pokemon didn’t acknowledge his presence-- however, its flame grew subtly brighter as they lingered together, and with time, more appeared. Not lanterns, like the first Pokemon, but smaller, waxy white bodies that shared the same gentle glow.
The Conductor had no recollection of these Pokemon, but he was certain one of their ilk had been important to him. Precious, even.
Slowly, the midday sun waned, and with it the afternoon he’d wasted. He knew he should depart immediately-- he still had to locate Dawn-- but at the same time, he didn’t know how to turn away from something that resonated so strongly with his missing memory.
Before he knew it, dusk had begun to fall.
It was hard to notice beyond the haze that settled over his mind.
---
The instant she began to manifest, Chandelure was off like a shot. Without a word of command or clarification, she phased through the wall and, when the humans-- tragically solid-- didn’t immediately follow, cried from somewhere out in the waiting room.
For his part, Emmet had already leapt up and was reaching for the door, but Dawn spent a moment maneuvering around the side rooms furniture.
The ghost barely waited for them to catch up, swiveling impatiently in the air until she’d deemed them ‘close enough’ and resumed her mad dash through the city. It was only by virtue of having lived in Nimbasa for so long that Emmet had even the slightest edge on navigation, and, frankly, he was a little surprised that Dawn was managing to keep up so well.
Even when properly lit, the side streets could be treacherous past nightfall, but Chandelure kept them safe twice over: her light illuminating any hidden faults in the walkways, and her single minded determination scaring any potential encounters away before they could challenge, question or mug either of the humans charging after her.
Chandelure only began to slow as they reached the edges of the park beyond Gear Station. She started to twirl in the air again and, for a moment, it seemed that it might have been a signal that they’d arrived, but as she drew higher into the air, it became apparent that she was taking a moment to reorient herself, to pinpoint her station now that they’d crossed the bulk of the distance. Then she froze, shrieked in outrage, and took off again, toward a cluster of slightly-distant, twinkling lights.
Litwick, Emmet realized as the shapes grew beyond their pastel flames, led by a single Lampent. Quite suddenly, he understood Chandelure’s umbrage.
While the folktales were greatly exaggerated, they were built upon a kernel of truth: feral Litwick led people astray in order to feed upon their energy, wasting time weaving convoluted circles while their prey wasted away. And the Lampent… well, perhaps its presence shouldn’t have been a surprise, given the circumstance. They were, after all, renowned for haunting cities in search of fuel.
The younger Pokemon scattered with Chandelure’s furious arrival, but the secondary form was slightly more stubborn; it crackled back, indignant, refusing to bow to its fully evolved kin.
And between them was the object of their animosity.
Even more ethereal than the ghost Pokemon, he knelt on the ground, shoulders slumped from exhaustion as he raised his head to look from one to the other. Neither of the lanterns acknowledged the motion, fixated on one another as they were, their hissing raising from a simmer into the boiling keen of a kettle.
The Lampent flared brighter in challenge, and what might have been the dimmest flicker of recognition was burnt away from the form below.
That would not stand.
“Chandelure,” Emmet called, and she immediately shifted her arms, anticipating his orders.
If the Lampent wouldn’t depart on its own, they would simply have to make it leave. Disruptive passengers and sore losers could only hope to find themselves ejected from the platform with merciless efficiency-- so if her Shadow Ball landed just a heartbeat before the directions could feasibly reach her, if the attack seemed ever so slightly more vicious than usual, what could be said, other than that she was verrry good at her job?
Lampent-- conscious only because Chandelure wanted it gone-- fled as soon as it regained its bearings.
In the crisis’s wake, neither trainer or Pokemon seemed quite sure how to proceed-- so it was Dawn, more accustomed to dealing with this phenomena, who stepped up.
Or, rather, ran up and fell gracelessly to her own knees.
“Conductor?” She asked, waving a hand in front of the spectral image of his twin, “Ducky?”
“Ingo.” Emmet said, more firmly, and the man in question blinked rapidly, trying to clear his vision.
Following Dawn’s lead, he knelt down so they were on the same level. Chandelure looked between them-- the two of them, oddly, Emmet and Dawn-- and gave a low, uncertain whistle as she lowered her hovering height.
Though they were mere feet apart, her searching eyes couldn’t seem to land on her trainer.
As he looked back to the apparition before him, Emmet found himself on the cusp of reaching out and had to fight the instinct, clasping his hands together to still them-- but the motion, small though it was, seemed enough to draw Ingo’s attention. With a bleary, barely-there focus, his eyes fixed, first, on the folded hands, and then on their owner’s face.
“Emmet?” He managed, so faint that even a whisper might overtake it.
Heart pounding, all but strangled by the last-ditch effort of fear digging in its nails, Emmet beamed at him.
Woozy but determined, Ingo veered closer. One fist uselessly braced against the ground, he leaned into his twin’s space and reached up, hesitating only when the reality of the situation seemed to dawn on him.
There was a small, almost disappointed, “Ah,” and Emmet decided to hell with it, unlacing his hands to meet the gesture, intangible though its terminal was.
Chandelure let out a muted chime, looking from Emmet to where his hand lingered in the air, and then the same distance opposite him. Her eyes were still unable to hone in on her human, but she was trying. She was trying so hard.
They would fix this, so she could finally see him again. So Emmet could finally hold him again. So he could finally live again.
---
Haxorus’s tail gave several restrained wags as they returned to the hospital room. Gentle though the thumps were, Emmet still grimaced on behalf of whomever happened to occupy the space below them and hurried over to her, ruffling her snout and praising her for keeping watch.
He wasn’t sure how, given that his brother didn’t currently match up with the physical plane, but he was keenly aware of Ingo hovering by his shoulder, curiously looking her up and down. It was difficult to fault him for honing in on the six foot tall dragon but, at the same time, the thought that he didn’t notice his own body laying half a room away was… amusing, to a point.
It was less amusing to consider where the inattentiveness might have stemmed from-- the pack of ghosts siphoning off his life force, or whatever had reduced him to this state in the first place.
Emmet recalled Haxorus and turned to where their attention was needed, only to come to an abrupt halt when the motion put him nose to nose with Ingo, who startled and moved back.
“Can I help you?” He asked, entertained, to an answer of averted eyes and sheepish, “Not used to anyone else seeing me...”
That would certainly be a track they’d need to clear, in time. For now, however, their task was making it a possibility in the first place.
Where Ingo had failed to spot the room’s focal point, Dawn had not; she idled at the foot of the bed awkwardly, nibbling on her bottom lip. Every so often, she’d tear her eyes away to glance at the both of them, as if reminding herself that this was legitimate. Emmet offered a level smile and stepped nearer, assuming his usual vigil. Automatically, he took the hand laying atop the blanket, exactly where he’d let it rest before.
Almost apprehensive, Ingo drew nearer, inspection of his own body cut short by frequent looks in Emmet’s direction.
Finally, he said, “We’re twins?”
There was a beat of silence.
“Are you just realizing this?”
He opened his mouth to little effect, and snapped it shut in favor of pointing-- to Emmet with one hand and his own still form with the other.
“Yes,” Emmet said, voice deliberately flat to mask his amusement, “I have been made well aware.”
“Give him a break,” Dawn said, and in spite of her words, she was clearly trying to tamp down on a grin of her own, “Ghosts can’t use mirrors.”
Ingo ducked his head, embarrassed and-- perhaps simply to give himself an out-- reached for the hand in Emmet’s grasp. He vanished instantly; for just a heartbeat, Emmet’s anxiety gained ground again, but then there was a sputtering cough and the limp hand instinctively began to curl.
“I had forgotten about breathing.” Ingo wheezed, just in time for Chandelure to complicate the matter by knocking the breath out of him.
“That is concerning.” Emmet said, and then proceeded to do nothing as she kept him pinned, secure in the knowledge that her cheer meant nothing was actually wrong.
Chandelure, spectral angel that she was, spent only a few moments there, then looked up at Emmet with big eyes-- globs of luminous lantern oil slowly arcing away with her movement-- and inched herself to the side, out of her trainer’s one-armed hug. The free hand made to follow her, until its owner followed the ghost’s line of sight.
When, instead, it diverted toward him, Emmet seized it and wasted no time pulling his twin upright, into the gentlest hug he could muster. It was hard to maintain. The rapidly loosening bindings around his heart had to go somewhere, and his arms desperately wanted to pick up the slack, to hold on and never let go-- but stubbornly, carefully, he did his best to match the infinitely more welcome pressure around his own chest. It was… faint, and he didn’t entirely succeed at reining in his enthusiasm, but it was also perfect.
A weight rested against his shoulder and he immediately turned into it, pressed a kiss to the short grey hair. Whispered a near-frantic, “Thank the gods.”
There was a soft snort against his neck, echoed by an audible scoff somewhere else in the room. It didn’t escape his notice, but he just didn’t care enough to pursue the point right now. He had much more important matters to attend to.
Three things happened in rapid succession, at that point: the limbs tangling around him went slack, there was a brief, startled, “Oops,” and, before Emmet had the wherewithal to do more than tilt his head up, he caught a glimpse of Ingo-- firmly back outside of his body-- leaning into place again.
Situated as they were, it was impossible to read his expression, but the embarrassment was clear in his tone as he rasped, “I will… endeavor to prevent that from happening again.”
Internally batting away fear’s second swipe, Emmet patted his brother’s back. “A project for another day. I will be right here to assist.”
A beat of silence, and then a heavy exhale. It could have been from reacclimating to physicality, but something in the back of Emmet’s mind told him it wasn’t; it was a veritable sigh of relief. He wondered if he’d done the same, before, when he’d finally had his twin back in his arms. He wondered if he’d been just as obvious to Ingo.
Emmet only let go when Chandelure began to get impatient-- which meant it had been substantially longer than even his time-table-oriented mind had caught-- and his brother reluctantly leaned back, only mollified when she clambered into his lap. One hand cradling her globe, he looked up to the foot of the bed and quirked what could be called a smile.
“Hi, Ingo!” Dawn chirped, moisture still gathered shamelessly in her eyes, “It’s nice to finally meet you.”
“Hello, Dawn,” He echoed, tired, but voice warm, content. Though he didn’t look, he subconsciously gave Emmet’s hand a squeeze, “It’s nice to finally be met.”

Who's your favorite Batman villain?
The Penguin. Was gonna put off this ask for a bit but I got surprised today with an incredible rendition of him, so now the dastardly bumbershoot waddled and squawked his way into my thoughts again and I gotta talk about him.
Tumblr media
Penguin's not just my favorite Batman villain, he's my favorite DC character and comic book supervillain, the main reason I even want to write a Batman story someday.
I love the imagery that surrounds him, the trick umbrellas and the birds he so lovely dotes after and the WAKs and the Iceberg Lounge, which has become maligned in recent years as a sign of his downfall, but I very much appreciate as a concept in general still. I love a lot of the performances and actors who've taken him over the years. Burgess Meredith and Danny DeVito are some of my favorite performers of all time, Paul Williams has a wonderful voice and starred in my favorite film of all time. Tom Kenny, David Ogden Stiers, Robin Lord Taylor, Penguin's just had such great, terrific performances and adaptations. Batman Returns is my favorite Batman film by far and it was what got me to start paying more attention to Oswald.
I love the roles he can play in any given Batman story and how he's managed to endure all of his falls from grace by becoming an indispensable part of Batman's worldbuilding. I love his varied dynamics with Batman and Riddler and Catwoman and Gordon and his henchmen and those who get close to him. I love his style and the way he conducts himself when he's allowed to be more than just a generic mob boss. Penguin's design has, by simply staying unchanged over the decades, gone from "common rich person wear draped over a funny cartoon gangster" to "he is so out of touch and desperate for respectability that he dresses like an 1930s capitalist caricature, like a little kid's idea of what a rich and respectable man looks like, and Penguin's still stuck in that mindset". I love how absurd and plausible he is.
I like that Penguin can very easily fit just about any kind of Batman story, from the campy supervillain plots to the gritty urban crime ones. You can tell stories about Penguin falling in love, pretending to be legit because he doesn't want his aunt to learn he's a criminal, and opening up a comedy act with a talking penguin, or stories about Penguin terrorizing the city with giant robots and guided missiles and driving people to suicide. I like that he's a character who both relishes in his lifestyles of supervillain and crimelord alike, and yet is perpetually restless because the minute he acquires what he wants, he immediately starts wanting something else. He could have Batman and the Batfamily and all other supervillains wiped out and have Gotham in his pocket and maybe even become President of the United States, and he'd still want more. Because Oswald is nothing but wants, the wants of a traumatized manchild in a funny costume throwing money and toys and brute force and tantrums at the world until it makes sense, which only makes him far too fitting as a Batman villain.
Tumblr media
Everyone forgets that Penguin was canonically the first villain to ever successfully escape Batman at the end of a story, completely bypassing the usual "villain swears revenge behind bars" ending to instead escape scot-free, and went on to establish himself as one of his biggest, most inventive and most cunning villains, second only, if not equal, to Joker. I love that he's ruthless and inventive and classy and cunning and brutal and how his main trick is using the fact that everyone underestimates the short fat man to his advantage. He's taken traits that got many of us in real life relentlessly tormented for them, and he uses them to pull the wool over those who think they are better than him.
It'ss a trick that works because even in real life people can't stop looking at this weird and silly little man and think "that guy's too silly for a Batman villain, he's not a murder clown or musclebound monster, what's he gonna do" and, yeah, that's the point, that's been the point from day one, he doesn't look scary or intimidating or even that evil, and he's the guy who pulls the rug under supergenius fighting machine Batman and becomes the top crimelord of Gotham City, a city ruled by terrors and manias and monsters infinitely bigger and scarier and stronger than he is, and he STILL made it to the top and he STILL maintains it, time and time again even when newer and flashier and scarier villains come and go. Batman is, at it's core, a fundamentally absurd character, and Penguin acts as a reminder of that. Because the minute we accept a man can terraform himself with training and money into a living legend on the level of gods, there's no reason why a tiny fat man with similar drive and resources can't likewise throw his weight with monsters and warriors far above his station.
Despite how ridiculously often he's disrespected by writers and fans alike, how far he's fallen off his former position in Batman's Rogues Gallery, and how often he's used as just a punching bag for assorted Bat-people, Penguin never goes away. He's the biggest survivor of all of Batman's villains, more so than the genuinely immortal ones, because he's the cockroach that won't go away no matter how many times you flush it.
Tumblr media
Because once you get past the piles of money and the lounge fortresses and the armies of goons and the piles of cartoony gadget toys not too dissimilar from Batman's own, what the Penguin has is brains, and spite and hatred on a scale no other Batman villain has. He hates Batman, because Batman is nothing but yet another bully who thinks he can push Oswald around just because he's bigger and stronger. He hates the lower class for it's unsophisticated brutes and boors that made his childhood hell. He hates the upper class that's rejected and also tormented him since infancy, that he desperately spent so long trying to be a part of. He hates the monsters and supervillains he works with and has to associate with to stay alive. He hates the city that he fights to rule over tooth and nail.
And although he may never admit it, he hates himself, because he'a short paunchy man with a beakish nose who's brutal and immoral not just because those are the cards life dealt him, but because he likes what it affords him too much to give it away. Because he's never going to have the love and acceptance he desperately craves, he will never be able to accept it or keep it. Because he can never fully be a gentleman, or a monster, but instead a sad mix who belongs in neither of their worlds. Because at the end, he doesn't look like anyone else. He looks like one of him.
Tumblr media
And still, I like Penguin because he's a Gentleman Villain. The one Gentleman Villain of Batman's rogues gallery, even if that's faded from a lot of his recent appearences that pushed the crimelord aspects to the forefront. He dresses like a gentleman thief, he's canonically a huge A.J Raffles fan, he's one of the most cunning brains of Gotham, he's got the money, resources, and adventurous spirit. Problem is, he's The Penguin. And suddenly, all that he has becomes overblown, outlandish, theatrical, and out of touch purely because it's him trying to do all those things. He's a gentleman adventurer gone rogue, the Count Fosco of the DCU, and that only makes it amusing, even endearing, when Penguin does engage in the swashbuckling antics he's so fond of.
Tumblr media
When all his plans go to hell and so he starts fencing Batman, or when he commands henchmen with superflous fancy language, or even when Oswald gives the whole "hero" thing a shot and we see he's actually not bad at it, maybe he actually could have been one if it wasn't for the bile drowning his heart and the hellscape that warped innocent young Cobblepot into Gotham's Penguin, a name that immediately denotes something silly and ridiculous, and he carries it with pride, because he will make you respect that name.
And that's just a couple of reasons. I really, really love this character to the point of obsession and the main reason why I ever wanted to write stories for DC was to get to write Penguin and at least try to do the character a little more justice. But if nothing else, Penguin endures, regardless of what happens to him, in and out of universe. If nothing else, that's a very admirable quality in a supervillain. Oswald is the best.
