The 23,500 Co-op Live venue in Manchester is set to open in April

Bosses of two of the largest indoor UK arenas have come to blows, with one accusing the other of trying to block its launch date for competitive reasons.

The conflict is between the AO Arena in Manchester (operated by ASM Global) and the upcoming 23,500 seat venue Co-op Live, which is set to open in the city this April.

In a licensing meeting for the latter, ASM Global had objected over “public safety” reasons and accused the application for a licence being “simply unlawful”.

Initially, ASM stated they had no issue with the new venue opening until midnight, however, issues arose at the prospect of the space being allowed to open until 2am at the weekend. In written submissions to Manchester City Council’s licensing committee, the operator of AO Arena said it only wanted to promote licensing objectives to “safeguard public safety and the prevention of public nuisance”.

Elsewhere, opposition towards the venue having its licence granted has come from 32 residents, two councillors, the council’s public health team, and the Music Venue Trust (MVT).

For the latter, this comes as Co-op Live had “declined” to sign up for a £1-per-ticket levy which funds the MVT’s “pipeline investment fund” for grassroots venues. During the hearing, Mark Donnelly suggested that the MVT’s objection was out of spite due to the refusal to opt-in for the levy, however, MVT’s Niall Forde said this suggestion was “inflammatory” and “entirely false” (via BBC).

The MVT has instead taken issue with the venue’s “ancillary spaces” being allowed to stay open later into the night, because of the impact it will have on neighbouring residents and smaller businesses.

The licensing hearing continues.

News of the MVT’s issue with the arena opening comes in light of it sharing a report, showing the “disaster” that struck the UK’s grassroots music venues in 2023.

Last year, the MVT delivered their first annual report at the Houses Of Parliament – warning grassroots gig spaces in the UK were “going over a cliff” without urgent government action and investment from new large arenas.

Not to relate everything to Tom (lol) but what anon said about those film accounts is so true, they have one specific narrative and people they consider as artists who can't be at fault, and because they have a huge audience some things just get talked about more than others

For tom, there was Obviously the Scorsese comment (that was dumb don't get me wrong, but I still don't think it deserve that many quotes with people literally telling him to k*ll himself) but even another JOKE he said about making a Jax and Dexter movie at A24, and people were so pressed about it because apparently it shows he doesn't respect the studio and doesn't understand art or whatever. It creates a narrative. But never once they reposted those Luca quotes, even tho it is imo, most relevant that Tom had to say. After all he was talking about one of the most beloved indie movie (cmbyn) right ? They should've reported this, no ? But because its not putting him in a great light its just radio silence

Also Luca has the audacity to say its just "Twitter drama" when there are literal proof, from screenshots to voice messages, of him fantasizing about r*** and cannibalism, and the fact that his wife literally divorced him and made a post completely devastated after the truth came out and said herself it was not photoshopped or made up. How can it get more real than that ? What a freak I hope he doesn't lock Z under his belt (and Timmy Taylor should free themselves too imo🫠)

the best I can describe film twitter (not just film update accs) is that they're sort of a...HIVE MIND. a lot of them form their opinion of a certain piece of media or an actor based on what their feeds tell them, so they tend to have a very myopic view of things in general. when the big verified accounts decide to say something about a certain film/actor, it becomes biblical truth ("hey, guys! we love this movie okay? it's good, trust me 'cause I'm a cinephile." / "ugh. i don't like this actor! here's a thread of why you shouldn't like him too.") and then they all indulge the algorithm by committing to the bit (because hey, that gets the most interactions right!)

anyway, yeah Luca calling the allegations with Armie as twitter drama is very foul of him. but Timmy cutting his connection with him based on that alone is unlikely to happen I'm afraid 🥴

I'm pretty solidly a Sequels fan, but I have a special place in my heart for the Prequels. I'm a fic writer who dabbles mostly in canon universe AUs, what ifs, that sort of stuff. Primarily my fics have Rey with a tendency to focus on the First Order characters and plots.

My Top Faves

A classic Reylo fic from an old friend - Beneath the Facade. It technically has a prologue fic before it in the series, but this piece was the one that I really enjoyed way back in the EARLY days of Reylo.

Where do I fit into the SW fandom?

I‘m in my thirties and an OT fan since birth, because my dad was obsessed with Star Wars and we watched it a lot as kids - they are the go to christmas movies in our family. Even as a very small kid I loved Vader. I didn’t like the ST quite as much when it came out in cinemas but still watched them multiple times. I’m much more fond of them now. But my love for Star Wars really got renewed with the ST. I really liked TFA and TLJ a lot. Not a great fan of TROS though, but to each their own. I recently started watching TCW, if you haven’t go watch it! The Mandalorian is also great and feels more like the OT for me, which I love. Oh, and R1 was awesome, I loved that one! Solo also was good. I think I will be a lifelong fan because it’s such a rich universe and everybody can pick a favorite. I’m also good at ignoring the parts I don’t like, lol. But I‘m mostly exhausted about all the drama on social media, so at the moment I take a bit of a break from social media and only post from time to time. And I’m of the firm believe to ship and let ship and if the art and fics are good, you can also find me enjoying ships outside of Reylo (honestly, some Kylux art out there, woah... and Finnrey is always so tender but Stormpilot has two hot guys in it... and don’t get me started about Finnrose! You probably get the gist)

It all started with the prequels which I fell in love with and even wrote my first fan fic on. (I dragged it from fanfic.net to A03 for my own form of personal torture) I dropped out of star wars until I was in Japan and a close group of friends got me to watch Roque One and play a star wars based table top role playing game, which dumped me back into this fandom hardcore. I fell in love with the sequel trilogy and now I'm stuck forever. Lol

I have been writing on A03 for around 2 years now for star wars and it's been the most productive and progressive work I've ever done thanks to ya'll.

Also, hey, I created this multishippers discord, because multishipping rocks and everyone should do it. :P I know I've never active enough but I love this space and the people in it! My fav part about multishipping is how I'm always discovering yet another ship that is awesome. It never ends. ^^

Azealia Banks posted more screenshots. Let's unpack this mess.

Welcome to another chapter in the bizarre saga of Azealia Banks/Grimes/Elon Musk!

Azealia Banks — who claims she was abandoned by Grimes and trapped in Elon Musk's mansion while he tripped acid — has been dropping juicy screenshots hinting at the unfolding drama in her Instagram stories.

On Tuesday, Banks posted a screenshot of a conversation between her and an unnamed source. She circled a text that said, "I made you look really good today. The attorneys like you and said you're smart." 

The texts also discuss "damages that Claire caused" — Claire is Grimes' birth name. 

In another screenshot posted to Azealia Banks' story, a person alleged to be Grimes says that "he" (Musk) "got into weed" because of her influence and that when he decided to take Tesla private, the stock would be worth $419 each. 

"So he rounded up to 420 for a laugh and now the sec is investigating him for fraud," Grimes texted.

Aug. 12: Apparently Banks gets trapped in Musk's house, and things start getting weird. 

Buckle up everyone, THIS is where it gets fun! That Sunday night, Banks compared staying in the Musk mansion to the real-life version of Get Out, and then exposed Musk for "being too stupid to know not to go on Twitter while on acid." 

She also claimed that she wasn't allowed to bring her boyfriend with her, and said "it was probably some weird threesome sex shit to begin with." 

According to Business Insider, she left that night.

Aug. 13: Musk clarifies his now-memed "funding secured." Also, Banks has more to say.

Apparently Saudi Arabia is going to help Tesla go private, according to a note on the company's website. 

Azealia Banks, meanwhile, continued her rant about her weekend at Elon's on another Instagram story. She said that Musk was "better off hiring an escort" because Grimes can't keep quiet about the business. 

While dragging both Grimes and Elon Musk through personal attacks and going off on a diatribe about the colonization of South Africa, Banks also hinted at Grimes spilling secrets. 

Musk, meanwhile, told Gizmodo he didn't know Banks and that he "has never even met [Banks] or communicated with her in any way.”

But Banks sent Business Insider an alleged screenshot of a conversation between her and Mac Boucher, Claire's brother, that said, "Elon will meet with you tonight." 

Three days later, Elon admitted to seeing Banks "for two seconds" in a New York Times interview.

Aug. 18: Banks posts more screenshots and now we know too much about Musk's genitalia. 

Banks, our screenshot queen, posted more receipts on her Instagram story. "Elon Musk has been tapping my phone all week," she claimed, posting screenshots of texts allegedly between her and Grimes from before their meeting.

In the texts, Grimes roasts Musk for his "weird accent that doesn't actually exist," but brags about his "giant dick." 

Let's also just appreciate Banks calling Musk a "wild thornberry." 

Basically, though, the screenshots seem to show that Musk at least knew Banks was planning on a visit.

Aug. 19: Grimes and Musk stop following each other.

The internet's most confusing couple stopped following each other on Instagram, and Musk unfollowed Grimes on Twitter. Considering Musk's bizarre Twitter presence, this could mean nothing. Right? 

Aug. 20: Musk deletes his Instagram and Banks says he has her phone. 

Musk told Gizmodo that he deleted his Instagram account because he didn't "like it." 

The same day, Banks called him out on her infamous Instagram story, begging for her phone back. This is where it gets even spicier — in deleted story videos, she complains about how she wants to go home and says "none of this shit has anything to fucking do with me." 

"Honestly, what the fuck is even going on," she asks in one of the videos. "What the actual fuck is going on?"

Aug. 21: More screenshots, and now attorneys are involved?

Banks posted more screenshots on her story that alluded to "damages that Claire caused." She also said on her story that she was finally leaving Los Angeles, sans phone, and that she couldn't "stay here for anymore of this shit." 

"If you knew that you couldn't work ... you should have just told me to stay my ass home," she ranted on her story. Banks also pointed out that Musk "sent that first tweet" before she even got on her flight, and that she could have easily stayed.
