I’m such a mess because I absolutely will get into a State where I start mapping the bloodlines of the royal families involved in the Trojan War and like. Even if once they were based on real people who have been mythologized, like… half of them have apposing lineages of you look hard enough.

But his might be an easier choice than “try to decide a timeline for myself to work with for my own project, of which events happen and when in my version of Greek mythology” which like.

Man. I cannot alway tell what order Zeus’ kids are born in. Even if I exclude the mortal ones.

Part of this is because I am not smart but other parts are like. Because. Man there is a whole lot of incomplete information that is hard to filter through. And I am unorganized. I’ll like. Freaking work on it. I’m becoming motivated. Yeehaw.

anyways i think that ash is more an import god (so as a result a lot of his myths would be him coming from somewhere long away and plus. have a bit more influence as his cult would travel to more places) and since him and red had similar-ish purposes, ash would be a secondary figure that was worshiped in the cult (and vice versa), but they'd still be their own thing bc i think they'd tackle the same stuff but differently

like i have this image in my head that ash would be a sign of death/war, while red's would be about rebirth/physical strength--similar concepts, but different ways they tackle it as you'd be more likely to worship ash is you were a war general but you'd be more likely to worship red if you were a warrior ^_^ i think that's why they'd stay separate (also because i don't like the idea of them being split off from another god or merging into 1 god bc the implications of that are uh. swagdoons would Not work well with that i think)

but ya! :D i also like the idea of them being associated with the underworld somehow, i haven't thought of creation myths for them but i just think it would be sick as hell (ba dum tss) and fit their general vibes!

Billy’s phone pings in his back pocket. Frustratedly, he maneuvers the bagged groceries in his hand. Reaching to grab his phone, he expects a text from you, asking him to grab something you had forgotten to put on the list or a needy i love you text.

Instead, he frowns at the message on his homescreen. The IMS shadow covers one of his faces on the stack of black and white polaroids of you and him on his wallpaper. Quickly, he slides his phone open, typing furiously.

“Shit,” Billy hisses, forcing a hand through his hair. It was no secret that Stu wanted to fuck you. Stu had practically begged him to just let him watch him fuck you— in person or on video—and he got on his knees attempting to somehow sway Billy to let him cuck you. 

Yeah, not going to happen.

The drive to your shared apartment feels agonizingly slow, an unrelenting doom gnawing in the back of Billy's mind. His knuckles turn white from their tight hold of the steering wheel.

Tires skirt as he swerves into the parking lot, heart racing much more than he would like to admit when he takes the keys out of the admission, front wheels diagonal on the yellow lines they're meant to be inside of.

His pulse is in his ears when he reaches the door, hands clumsy for the keys before he realizes the door isn't even locked. The acknowledgment sends a new sense of dread down his spine because ever since Woodsboro, you listened to him, and you always locked the doors.

With half the mind to grab the knife that he buried it in the potted plant in the hall to castrate Stu-- if he was even there and didn't just want Billy to kill him in his sleep.

The door creaks open deathly slow. Billy's boots are loud against the wooden floors as he steps inside, listening intently. His eyes are frantic, dancing to any open space for your presence. He doesn't see you.

"Y/N?" he calls, his voice steady despite his panic.

It's quiet.

What position does he have you in now? Tied up and gagged so you can't make a sound as Stu pounds into you. Billy swallows his own bile, hardly convinced to continue his search downstairs before heading to your bedroom. If he can get to the kitchen, he can grab a butcher knife and go Michael Myers on that motherfucker.

"Boo!"

He's genuinely startled when he turns the corner into the kitchen, taking a step back and staring at your beaming form with wide eyes. Standing in front of him, perfectly clothed may he add, you cackle, your entire body shaking as you struggle to point a finger at him, too consumed with pure unaltered joy. "I--" you wheeze. "I scared you. Finally, I actually did it."

Despite the small part of him that's a teensy bit pissed (any other day he's punching a wall) that you finally got the best of him, Billy smiles, hands seizing your waist to pull you into his chest so he can hold you after the stress of a lifetime. Your fingers slide across the back of his neck, and it feels like a glimpse of heaven: having you, his girl, and his girl only in his arms, grinning ear to ear.

His fingers find your chin and he makes you look into his eyes. "You got lucky, babe."

While you divulge into another laughing feet, burying your face in his neck, Billy closes his eyes in bliss, savoring the moment as he hugs you. Your bodies fit together like perfect puzzle pieces. You're okay. You're safe. You're his. Billy opens his eyes, sighing quietly. And Stu is nowhere in sight--

What the fuck.

Elbows propped onto the granite island; Stu is smirking like a dead man.

Arms locked around you, Billy stiffens. You pull back, and to your boyfriend's displeasure, out of his arms.

The kitchen is covered in white flour like winter had come early and a blizzard swept inside your windows. Stu's sweater is coated in the flour as well and now that he thinks of it, he can see the powder on your cheek.

"We tried to make cookies," you explain joyously, taking a half-glance between him and Stu. The latter saunters towards you and Billy smugly. "Stu's not very patient."

"Not at all," he purrs, throwing an arm over your shoulder at tugging you into him. You laugh, oblivious to the heated exchange that was happening just above your head.

Billy was going to kill Stu if he kept looking at you like that, his eyes flickering between Billy and peeping down your shirt. Goodbye to their sequel.

You break him from his reverie. "Billy, baby, where's the groceries?"

"Yeah, man. Where are they?" Stu tilts his head.

"In the car," he deadpans although he forgot about them in the first place, abandoning them accidentally. He grabs your wrist, tugging you away from Stu's grip, fuming. "Let's go get them."

“i’ve been absolutely dying to go to this cafe ever since yn dropped that brunch pic on twitter!” kaveh squealed standing outside the cafe waiting for you and sethos. his hair was tied up in a low bun, with clips in his hair. his boyfriend raising an eyebrow and giving him a weird look. “seriously? being excited over such a trivial matter is awfully childish,” al haitham murmured under his breath. “whatever! anyways, do you think yn and sethos are running late?” the blonde asked, trying to make conversation. truthfully, kaveh was nervous. he was anxious to see his crush longtime former crush with another guy. not to mention that the entire week since exams had felt so stressful due to the number of quarrels he and al haitham had. “well obviously they are considering that they aren’t here yet.” the time was 2:15, however, the two of you were nowhere to be in sight. 

“... yeah you’re right… hey um, i’ve been wanting to talk about something important lately and if we have the time–” “oh my god we are so so sorry for being late!” there you were, running towards the couple. “sethos and i were getting ready and then i got distracted-” “we both got distracted babe. don’t put it all on yourself!” he chuckled at your out-of-breath state. “it’s fine! don’t worry about it! c’mon, let’s go in.” 

the four of you talked and chatted while waiting for the totoro bread buns. “so, yn! when did you and sethos meet?” the blonde across the table asked you. “at the party you two threw like two weeks ago! i was so wasted when we met and then we ended up kissing at haitham’s front door…!” you giggled, covering your face. “that moment was such a blur! he ended up giving me his number after tighnari caught us!” 

“aww that’s so cute–” “dating someone you’ve only known for two weeks is irrational.” al haitham scoffed. the table was silent. “... i mean sethos and i aren’t actually dating though?” you nervously laughed it off, then looked away out the window. “oh my god that was so fucking insensitive for you to say! you’ve been acting like a cold jerk ever since exams ended. just what is your problem?” kaveh exclaimed, standing up from the table and placing down his cash. “i’m leaving. i’ll see you guys around.”

Apollo & Dionysus [Part 1]

MAN. not sure if i know what i'm doing, they're very complicated and this won't be my only essay about them. But I've been delaying this essay for way too long, to a point in which I was close to crying about it.

Hope you enjoy, in any case, how i give you all the connections, both good and bad, of my favourite god figures from the Greek Folklore.

1. Karneia [Καρνεῖα].

One of Dionysus' main characteristics is how he's depicted with horns. It's part of his identity as a god, it's horns what (according to the Orphic hymns) made him look like Persephone's son. you can't take away his horns and pretend he's still Dionysus. Euripides knew that well.

Apollo, on the other hand, not many are aware that he sometimes was represented with horns, as well ! This festival, held mainly in Sparta, was to honor Apollo (and a couple of other gods but, he was the star of the show).

The reasons for why this festival was held vary; like Pausanias saying it was to calm him down so he wouldn't send a plague.

But, you see, the main reason this festival is mentioned here: the Spartans would stop any military activity to honor a horned Apollo, he resembled Dionysus during that time. And not only that, but he also was related with vines during it, and that's Dionysus sacred plant. Just like the laurel (or bay, i think it's called in English) is the sacred tree of Apollo.

Seeing Apollo with that plant, and harvesting grapes while having horns, has a strong conection to what Dionysus is.

2. Delphi's Oracle.

It's still Apollo's Oracle, wether Dionysus kept it while he was gone at Hyperborea or not. He killed Python, Gaia's big-ass snake, in order to get it.

But.

While Apollo had to leave during the winter time to go to Hyperborea, it was Dionysus OF ALL GODS the one who kept Delphi, and thus, his festivals were celebrated there.

On one side of the main temple, you could see Apollo with his twin sister, Artemis, and his mother, Leto.

And on the other side, it was Dionysus.

Dionysus wasn't related to prophecies, at all. Maenads did shenanigans during the time Apollo wasn't there.

But it's, you know... Interesting, that Apollo's most important oracle was kept by Dionysus during the time that he wasn't there.

With this, you should think "then, they're in good terms, right?" Yeah, well, they're supposed to be, there's nothing stating that they have a bad relationship, it's the other way around, actually !

But the next point... Is gonna leave us all confused.

3. Orpheus.

Or, as i like to call it:

And my favourite part of this essay, gotta say !

Orpheus brought many cults to the Greeks, according to Pausanias. Like the Eleusinian Demeter one, for example. And not to forget, Orphism gets his name from him, as well as the Orphic Hymns, obviously.

But, apparently, besides doing all that, at the end of his life, he claimed to not care about any gods, not even Dionysus, the main figure of Orphism, that weren't Apollo.

And his death was explained in a lost play of Aeschylus, one that two different writers describe; Eratosthenes and Pausanias, so pick your favourite:

P: 1. the maeneads saw Orpheus refusing to worship Dionysus, and killed him.

E: 2. Or, the interesting one: Dionysus saw that Orpheus devoted himself to Apollo and Apollo only, and got... Jealous. Jealous of his devotion to Apollo.

He was the one who started Orphism, the one who wrote many hymns for him. Seeing him being devoted to someone else than him apparently wasn't a good move. In this version he sent the maeneads to kill him, they didn't go for their own will, which makes it more peculiar.

I'm not writting down Ovid's version because it doesn't fucking count.

Plato also says some odd thingy, that "the gods imposed on Orpheus the punishment of dying at the hands of women for not having had the courage to die for love like Alcestis, daughter of Pelias, who had died in the place of her husband Admetus." ... Which, yeah, sure, I guess, whatever you say, buddy. We have to keep in mind Plato's texts are more related to philosophy than anything.

People always say it's Apollo the one who was envious of Dionysus' talents and parties, (for... some reason i guess) specially knowing how he had two of his muses related to him (tragedy and comedy) due to Dionysus being, after all, the god of theatre.

But, surprise ! It was the other way around. Dionysus was jealous of Orpheus' devotion to Apollo. "If you won't devote yourself to me, you won't devote yourself to anyone".

And, well, either because the sources didn't survive or because he wasn't considered his son in these versions, Apollo didn't do anything. In fact, we never see him doing anything towards Dionysus.

So, what now, Nysus? What was their relationship exactly, after all of this?

It's... Complicated !! Okay !!! This needs more research from my part, plus we all should keep in mind that, while all the authors mentioned here were Greek, they were different guys. You always need to keep in mind the place, person, era... All of that, before starting to judge how a dynamic between two gods work.

yesssss omg so basically her grandmother lisistrata is the leader ("the master") of the cult of the stargazers. they are heavily based on the cult of dionysus, and basically believe the world is a play that the stars orchestrate for their enjoyment, and the most entertaining actors win a place of honor among the stars (become stars. badum tsss). they are batshit insane and have huge abuse n murder n drugs etc problems in the community bc the more "interesting" ur story is the better. also they base their logic and storytelling techniques and morals on the old plays, so they just fucking hate women (the general society is somewhat misogynistic, but its mostly in a strict gender roles way n not in a women r inferior way). lisistrata's son, mercuțio, was supposed to inherit her role, but he ran away from the cult with his girlfriend, leaving behind his older son, orlando. when anca was abt 15 her grandmother found them, murdered her son and kidnapped anca to the cult. when she grew up both her parents were p abusive n they were struggling financially n her house was a v unstable place n within the cult she was rich nobility, so p soon, altho after a good amount of grooming n gaslighting, she came to see the chain of events as positive. when she turned 19 (altho grooming her for it sooner) her grandmother turned her into some sort of a spy n borderline sw, where shes sent to learn ppls secrets (i was thinking abt finnic from the hunger games) so the cult could manipulate them n get better rights n benefits n support for her cult. her older brother, orlando, "fell in love w her" the moment he met her (when she was 15 n he was 31!! guards!!!!) n has a 4d chess type madonna whore complex abt her where he both thinks shes stupid n incapable n that he should take care of her but also that shes the most perfect woman in the world. his wife looks suspiciously similar to anca. theres also her "reeducator", damian, who is also certain hes in love w her, n both him n orlando r basically waiting for lisistrata to drop dead so they could marry her n make her into their pefect wife (docile housewife in a semi permanent state of pregnancy). basically almost everyone in her life is either psychologically, physically or sexually abusing her she just became so disconnected from herself - she learned not to form any opinions, to not moralize or think abt anything happening to her (if someone were to hit her shed think this is physically painful not this is bad or even this is harming me), to completely disconnect from her own body, etc. at the beginning of the story her grandma sends her as some sort of an embassador to the court n in order to seduce the crown prince, marin, who is actually the first person in her life to actually care abt her. so she starts learning abt herself n putting boundries n becoming opinionated n actually seeking out pleasuring herself instead of only other ppl (for example she starts exploring her bisexuality n actually fucking women, not just making out w them for mens amusement) n basically becoming her own person. im still not sure how her ties to the cult will end - i dont want to abolish the cult entirely, but i do want to 100% Get Her Out Of There yknow. so yeah tysm again. im so normal abt this story

Do you have a deity from Greek mythology that interests you most than the others deities?

This is such an interesting question! I think about Greek mythology a lot, and specifically about the gods, but tbh I don't think I have one deity that I'm drawn to more than the others. Like I love learning tidbits about Apollo or Hermes or Athena but I can't say that I have a particular preference for any of them. What I do find fascinating though and keep being drawn to is the relationship between certain deities and how that is reflected culturally, in the art or worship or attitudes of that time, like Aphrodite and Ares (love and war), Charon and Hermes (the ferryman and the psychopomp), or my favourites Apollo and Dionysus. These two gods individually are very interesting, but it is the connections they share in cultural contexts that I find more fascinating, like the fact that Delphoi was considered a sacred place for both gods, with Apollo presiding over the Delphic oracle and practices in the spring, summer and fall, and then handing over the oracle to Dionysus for the three winter months. The two gods were considered counterparts of each other in many ways, with Apollo being the god of light, prophecy, truth, healing, etc and Dionysus embodying the unpredictability, or temporary insanity, if you will, of the winter months (as well as the darkness of winter, since he was considered a chthonic god and had connections to death and rebirth). There are many other aspects of the two gods that sort of contradict and also complement each other, both in the way they were viewed and also the way they were worshipped. I just find that sort of thing incredibly interesting to think about.

Some other things I find fascinating re: Greek deities is sort of following the progression of worship and godly figures, which gods stuck around since the Bronze Age or even before that, which have been absorbed by other gods, which have been forgotten completely, etc. Poseidon for example seems to be one of the older gods, Hestia is probably one of the later additions, while several minor gods that are known to have been worshipped in Mycenean times were gradually absorbed and replaced by Apollo. I just find that super interesting idk why haha. I feel like since worship and religion was such a central part of daily life, it tells us a lot about the people practicing it and believing in it, their worldview, their attitudes towards life, the world, each other, etc, and the few things we know about local deities or cults might tell us more about the people of that specific part of the world too. Sometimes when you visit those areas you might even be able to see the connections, even though it’s been thousands of years since then. It's one of the reasons I love history, archaeology and the classics in general, because it allows you a glimpse into those people's minds through the things that were important to them and you realise that we're not that different, that people have always been people.

Sorry if this was a bit rambly lol but yeah there it is! I'm just super interested in all deities, since they were in a sense all aspects of each other and were embodiments of different elements of nature, life or the human psyche, while also holding their own individual cosmology. Fascinating stuff!
