A blast from the past with a messy redraw~!
From the bowels of my bedroom i found a very old drawing that could be from 2013-2014. I'm no longer into Hellsing but it was neat to try. I have no clue/memory of the original picture in all honesty lol!

just thought id post some of the creative process behind the design of my characters costume, child in eurydice (by the wonderful sarah ruhl)
↑↑↑ since it's already been a couple of weeks into rehearsal by that point & the fact that the cast have creative freedom of their characters design, i created a sort of inspo board (made from images found on Pinterest) and showed it to the director & costume designer. they not only loved the fact i created a board but also loved the designs i had in mind.
ive researched other productions and wanted to do something different from the cartoonish cap, oversized shorts, suspenders, & high socks i often saw. eurydice takes place in the 40-60s era and my vision of the character was an unsettling uncanny sailor boy. the child is the same person, or more so a different side of the same coin, as the interesting man. apparently they both had envisioned for the man to have a navy suit so the sailor boy coupled w that fit perfectly. it sort of gave off a " the grown up " version vibe. Now with a more concrete design, our costume designer went online shopping and personally asked us what we'd like to purchase :D
First Photo — First draft, it's out of view but my pants were on the floor and the sweater vest seen on me was tight >_<
Second Photo — The Final <3 All the pieces were sewn so that they'd still be a little oversized but not on the floor. Gold Buttons were added & I got a cute collar n_n The shoes were found in our theaters infamous " hot box " and it took me hours to find the full pair.
I was also given freedom on what to do with my makeup! I'm already somewhat experienced in theatre makeup & was able to do it myself. I used a brown eyeliner to draw / accentuate the aegyo and widen my eyes with a white pencil to make me look 👁️🗨️👁️🗨️ like I was always staring in awe. I used a liquid cool pink blush to exaggerate the redness of my nose and the apples of my cheeks. I then used a brown liner to draw upper corners of my mouth to make it look like I was always smiling. The result was. Uncanny. Very uncanny valley. My cast members were very put off by it XD (success!) For the 'manchild' scene, I used some contour and power to darken my features and look similar to my counterpart. I even slathered a fake stubble / 5 O Clock shadow on!
I did NOT need to write that much but I love the creative process behind every decision in theatre, and I'm glad we were given a lot of freedom with our characters design. Being able to express our vision allowed a very whimsical production and im overall super happy with the show. I'm so grateful to be able to contribute my ideas like this. I love my silly creepy LORD OF THE UNDERWORLD tricycle riding freak.
Send this post to a worm!!!
