So I finished rewatching the German 2009 musical of The Count of Monte-Cristo and while looking up some facts found a very interesting page  (the first page is spoiler-free mostly, but not the others, so read at your own peril) which to be honest cracked me up a few times! Here are some quality extracts (spoiler-free):
This is a dangerously fabulous read. Telling others that this novel is your favourite can reveal a malevolent side to your personality. Genius plot writer, Alexander Dumas, constructed a story so evil, so clever, and so violent that future reads will just be boring.
The Count of Monte Cristo operates very much like the Russian mafia
The revenge is compelling, smart, admirably bad.
Apart from a few questions on the first page, it’s mostly just links to the original text! (But I had to include these.)

Edmond Dantès and Jean Valjean are like opposite ends of a spectrum of "how does this 19th century French prison escapee who likes to wear disguises and fake identities a lot deal with his trauma?". And neither of them are doing it well, but they're still doing it in opposite ways.

I should make edits of my own animatics I think that'd be funny. And if I'm missing any scenes I can just draw them in

Love it when guys with dark hair die or go through some other sort of trial and come out of it with a cute little streak of white in their hair. Favorite trope <3

(me trying to explain fate/go dantes to someone completely canonblind) so remember the chapter where edmond dantes turns into a powerful magical being who possesses people's shadows and fights people in their dreams

The most intriguing thing about The Count of Monte Cristo is that - everytime a new character appears - you look for tiny hints that this is in fact not a new character but just Dantes with a wig
