Today I learned that the replication crisis - the crisis in which it turns out that a shit-ton of scientific research was done with bad methodology and the results cannot be reproduced - was brought to prominence in part because of a study in which a respected social psychologist claimed to have produced evidence that precognition exists . . . but only when it comes to porn.

At which point everybody was like "okay, either we've been using really bad methodology this entire time and everything we know is potentially wrong, OR precognition exists but only for porn" and immediately decided that porn precognition is not a thing.

(Also I learned this from The Constant, a podcast which just did an excellent three-part series about the history of parapsychology research that I super recommend)
