Except by critics. Last and silliest of the AIRPORT movies, THE CONCORDE … AIRPORT '79 (1979) adds some preposterous aerial action and amusingly cheesy model work to the usual airplane disaster movie recipe of big stars, contrived peril, and schmaltzy melodrama, as a treacherous aerospace tycoon (Robert Wagner) makes a whole series of attempts to down a Concorde airliner carrying an intrepid reporter (Susan Blakely) who has just gotten a bag of incriminating documents about him. However, he hasn't figured on the cool competence of the Concorde's new captain (Alain Delon) and his stalwart copilot (George Kennedy, who I think was the only star to appear in all four AIRPORT movies). A movie with a little bit of everything except plausibility, logic, taste, or brains — it veers so often into dopey self-parody that AIRPLANE! (1980) starts to seem like a very easy shot — but hard to dislike unless you make the mistake of taking it seriously. After all, where else will you find Cicely Tyson, Sylvia Kristel, Jimmie Walker, and Charo in the same movie?

Ah...... So I had a theory about which movie 8x02/8x03 will be inspired by after reading Tim's interview and seeing those planes. But the Airport 1975 set sail pretty quickly and I don't want to come off as an asshole constantly trying to "akshually" people.
Since the trailer is coming out today, I don't know how much they'll reveal, but I guess it's the last chance for me to share my original theory.
I thought it would be based on Airport, the original one, in 1970. That one involves a passenger trying to bomb the plane and commit insurance fraud, while another plane is stuck in the snow block off the runway. The flight crew and some passengers try and fail to stop the bomb from going off, so the plane has to turn back for an emergency landing, with ground mechanics trying their best to move the other plane away from the runway.
Depending on how the trailer goes, I may further develop this theory.
I also briefly thought about the Airport 1975 double pilot incapacitation scenario, but in my own theory, the prisoner (Dennis Jenkins?) will be the only one onboard with flying experience, for maximum level of drama.
Or maybe Tim decided to troll us with an Airport '79 parody, dodging missiles by flying a fucking Concorde upside down like a fighter jet. (You can ignore Airport '77, it's more of a submarine movie.)

Happy Birthday Sybil Danning!
Tall, leggy, buxom and statuesque 5'7" blonde beauty Sybil Danning reigns supreme as one of the sexiest, most dynamic and commanding actresses to achieve cult B-movie queen status. She was born Sybille Johanna Danninger in Wels, Austria, the daughter of a US Army major father and an Austrian mother. She grew up on army bases in such places as New Jersey, Maryland and Sacramento, California. Sybil attended Etontown's Star of the Sea Catholic School. At age 14 she worked for her uncle as a dental assistant. Two years later she moved to Vienna, Austria, and worked for a dental supply company. She then relocated to Salzburg and worked as an assistant to a top oral surgeon.
Danning then enrolled in the Buchner School of Cosmetology in Salzburg and received a diploma in facial treatment, decorative make-up, manicure and body massage. She soon began doing fashion shows and photo layouts. Danning made her film debut as Lorelei in Komm nur, mein liebstes Vögelein (1968).
She next portrayed Kriemhild in The Long Swift Sword of Siegfried (1972). Sybil studied for three years with noted Munich drama coach Anne-Marie Hanschke. Sybil made memorable appearances in such mainstream features as Bluebeard (1972), The Three Musketeers (1973), Crossed Swords (1977) and The Concorde Airport '79 (1979).
She also continued to act in such enjoyably lowbrow exploitation items as Naughty Nymphs (1972), Loves of a French Pussycat (1972), and Cat in the Cage (1978). Danning was especially excellent and impressive as the fierce Valkyrie warrior Saint-Exmin in the science-fiction cult classic Battle Beyond the Stars (1980).
Other notable roles are tough prison inmate Ericka in the babes-behind-bars classic Chained Heat (1983), a formidable female swordfighter in The Seven Magnificent Gladiators (1983), wicked werewolf queen Stirba in Howling II: Your Sister Is a Werewolf (1985), a cunning femme fatale English professor in They're Playing with Fire (1984), the Queen of the Moon in the hilarious Amazon Women on the Moon (1987), the strict Warden Sutter in the amusing chicks-in-chains parody Reform School Girls (1986), an alien queen in The Phantom Empire (1988) and a rugged lady bounty hunter in L.A. Bounty (1989).

The Concorde….Airport ’79 (David Lowell Rich, 1979)
Alain Delon’s last attempt at American stardom. This film dashed any further hopes and, whilst it was at it, killed off one of the most successful franchises of the 70s: two birds with one stone. All the Airport films are ‘producer’ films,’ exercises in packaging stars and concept with an eye firmly on the box-office. Jennings Lang, the agent who was shot in the balls by Walter Wanger for…

Airport ‘79 – The Concorde (USA, 1979): 🙁 [2020]
Último filme da série Airport. Um Concorde (esse belíssimo avião que infelizmente está aposentado) é alvo de mísseis teleguiados porque um dos passageiros carrega documentos secretos relacionados com a Guerra Fria.

My Obituary for Actor Barry Newman
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/dac309999bdb8c768d5d50ea9863b186/58269481fba2de29-34/s540x810/82882a60922e1ee75b71b7389d04baafe815c486.jpg)
Another great actor exits our lives stage left...
Barry Newman died on May 11 2023
Newman was born in Boston in 1930 and studied acting at Brandeis University and the Actors Studio. He made his film debut in 1967 in the Western The Wild Bunch. His breakthrough role came in 1971, when he starred as Kowalski, a driver who races a Dodge Challenger across the American West in "Vanishing Point".
The film was both a critical and commercial success, and Newman's performance was praised for its intensity and charisma.
For myself, my personal recollections about Newman were two fold. Firstly, watching his 1974 movie "Fear is the key".
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/c693b17845b6d56c08d801be77416c25/58269481fba2de29-f2/s540x810/1b8e2a858b4928e755c5ef678fa870dd2ed3351d.jpg)
My junior high school had an after school cinema club. It was run by teachers and every month we would enjoy a big screen movie in the school hall. Movies such as "Zulu", "Thunderball" and of course "Fear is the key".
This wasn't really suitable for eleven year olds, ( tame by today's cinema output) but it was a different age, so I'm told.
It wasn't the best movie, but for some reason it still stays with me as one of my favourites.
In 1974, Newman starred in the legal drama Petrocelli, which ran for four seasons on NBC. He was nominated for a Golden Globe Award for Best Actor in a Television Series (Drama) for his performance.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/d798c4028250eeb2d1e35603c979aaac/58269481fba2de29-db/s540x810/90bcf7cda059cbb7e10019a766879d3ab5cc16cf.jpg)
Newman continued to work in film and television throughout his career, appearing in such films as The Towering Inferno (1974), The Concorde: Airport '79 (1979), and The Bourne Identity (2002). He also starred in the television series Tales from the Crypt (1989-1996) and The X-Files (1993).
Newman was a versatile actor who was equally comfortable in action, drama, and comedy. He was a cult favorite among fans of Vanishing Point, and his performance in Petrocelli helped to make him a household name. He will be remembered as one of the most talented and charismatic actors of his generation
So can we raise a drink and say a fond farewell to another entertainer from our childhood
See thee later oldies!

Oh, yes, I’ve seen both the Seconds from Disaster and Air Crash Investigation episodes on it and “Airport ‘79,” which features the Concorde from the accident. And also all the rest of the episodes of Seconds from Disaster. And nearly all of the episodes of Air Crash Investigation. And all of Disasters of the Century.
To be fair, flight numbers tend to escape me a lot of the time, so I needed to think for a sec if this was the Concorde or the flight that left Brazil and crashed into the Atlantic. And then there was the plane that crashed taking off from Paris in the 70s and killed something like 350 people, but that was a Turkish Airlines flight.
… uh, yeah, sorry, that hyperfixation’s been around here for a looooooong time.
Me: *in bed trying to sleep, after hearing that ‘counting sheep’ is just an expression for mentally listing things until you fall asleep and it totally works* Okay, so United Airline Flight 93, United Airlines Flight 175, American Airlines Flight 11, American Airlines Flight 77, United Airlines Flight 1549, Air Florida Flight 90, Pacific Southwest Flight 1771, Uruguayan Air Force Flight 571 …

28, 56, 84!
Thank you Lucie!! I hope you're well. These were fun to answer :3
28. "Welcome Aboard" - Lalo Schifrin from The Concorde... Airport'79 (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) [1979]
Okay so I am a sucker for original source music in old film scores. It's cheezy but like it's part of the Airport franchise so what do you expect. I've had a little obsession with the Concorde supersonic passenger jet this year and this is on my "Flight of the Concorde" playlist
56. "Who Slapped John" - Gene Vincent
Discovered this in putting together a playlist inspired by the stage adaptation of Clue. It's '50s rockabilly so it helps establish the temporal setting, and it feels very fitting for the whole 'who killed Mr. Body?' thing - "Who slapped John when the lights went low?"
84. "Tele-Vee-Shun" - Stan Freeberg
Some of the references and attitudes are very dated (also white people singing Calypso always feels appropriative to say the least...). That being said, I really love when Calypso is used to satirize American capitalism/industrialization and the alienation it creates. Speaking of alienation, this song is from the playlist I made inspired by the 2005 videogame Destroy All Humans about a malevolent alien who talks like Jack Nicholson and tries to take over America circa 1959. I have a couple other Stan Freberg songs on that playlist, they're a good match for the comic tone of the game.
#send me more numbers 1-100#i'll answer with the corresponding#track off my#spotify wrapped#playlist and also tell you what playlist of mine the song's on
