Wow, you must really be fearsome, Captain Barbossa. To reduce a Commodore of the British Navy *and* a Norrington no less, to that slutty unkempt little deckhand you have scrubbing your boots.
You know his father, Admiral Lawrence Norrington, is rolling in his grave right?
What is your favorite vintage computer, besides the Commondor?
Besides the Commodore VIC-20? (which holds the title of my favorite computer of all time, not just favorite vintage computer).
That's a tough call, 2nd place probably goes to the Cactus (jk, it's not actually vintage) the Data General Nova 1200.
I wish I could figure out what exactly is wrong with it, but it's not an easy machine to fix. The new power supply seems to be stable, but the CPU is suspect -- even simple programs don't work consistently. Writing diagnostic routines in assembly is not easy for this architecture, and the diagnostic routines I have from DG are not obvious in how they're supposed to report back failures based on the manual. Without a known-working machine to test each of part in, I'm kinda feeling stuck for the moment, even with the assistance of the modern Data General Users Group (or whatever we're calling ourselves these days).
When the Nova 1200 has worked, it's been fun toggling in programs, and using BASIC on a core memory minicomputer.
Right now it has a diagnostic extension card installed between the bus and the CPU card to hopefully help me figure out what's hosed.
One day we'll be back to running software with no problems. It's a damned cool, beautiful machine that influenced so many important machines that would follow, not just from Data General.
If you've ever been caught up in a character like James Norrington, you probably know the story of his childhood. At a young age, the boy's father took him on a ship with him to learn "hands-on". During one of the battles, James fell overboard and was rescued by a pirate. I could be wrong on some of the details, but the gist is that this story started Norrington's deep personal hatred of pirates. His father would have preferred the boy to die rather than be rescued by a pirate and it's what made him blame himself for the rest of his days.
Can you imagine the wound on Commondor's heart (complex if you will)? Now think back to the first episode when James, overcoming his shyness, tries to say the words that are important to him and Elizabeth…. falls into the sea. And who rescues her? Captain Jake Sparrow, "the meanest pirate" Norrington's ever heard of. I mean, do you realise what James is going through at this point? It's not just about Elizabeth's safety, it's about being rescued by a man that the Commondor hates. He was despised by his father, and now he can despise himself, because he didn't save his beloved from the same fate.
This post is about Norrington's heart being broken to pieces as a child and the episode with Miss Swann did it again. He may be a Commondore in the Royal Navy, but the girl was saved by a pirate and that's something his father hasn't forgiven him for and now he can't ask for himself.
Now that I'm nearing the end of my main story, I'm thinking of the other AUs that I created for the fun.
Casino AU: Rudi is a bellhop, carrying guests' luggage to their rooms. Moon is a bartender, and Sun is a card dealer at the tables.
Witches AU: Sun and Moon are witches. While practicing a powerful spell, Sun accidentally kills his brother, causing Moon to become a ghost. They summon Devil Rudi to make a deal to bring Moon back to life in exchange for their souls. Rudi is tricked though, into a binding spell, becoming Sun's familiar. (Completed)
Pirate AU: Sun and Moon are Pirate Lords, pillaging towns and villages while being chased by Commondore Rudi. The brothers find it entertaining. They tease and flirt with Rudi while managing to escape every time.
I'm not so sure if I want to make these AUs into full-fledged stories, but I wouldn't mind drawing more of them.
There was also a Christmas AU, but there's no actual backstory for that.
Barbossa looks at James and goes into the moonlight revealing his skeleton form "ye best start believing in ghost stories commondore, yer in one".
(@captainofthepearl)
(Ooc: did this for halloween)
..James stared at him as he changed into that gruesome skeletal figure and laughed at him , and his skepticism. " So it would seem" he didnt scream like Elizabeth had but his hand was clutching his chest, wide eyed. Supernatural didnt scared James as much as the average person, but the Commodore was still quite startled by it
Okay what if the Commodore is a part of the Unbroken Chain, and high up too, and what if it was the Unbroken Chain that killed Agro's mom/ordered her to be killed/made the decisions that led to her death
And what if that means that either Argo's mom isn't as good as he thought or the Unbroken Chain isn't as good as they claim it to be
Barbossa was out on the pearls deck, he took out his telescope to navigate using the stars. He didn't notice the commondore standing next to him; he gazed to his right.
This was probably the only time the captain and the rumpot deckhand get any alone time. There was many secrets the captain held, he refused to spill anything. The night was calm, the sound of the ocean could be heard gently crashing against the pearl.
The captain wouldn't admit it but the scenery was quite relaxing so far. He spoke "a captain knows his ways around these waters usin' the stars" .
