i guess i had a longer post before but since i'm working on it now, a quick summary of hans' muscle composition

first is that they have a lot of explosive strength. their height and weight was confirmed as 170cm/5'7" 60kg/132lbs even before the anime adaptation, so it's true to how isayama imagined them. in the above scene that compares to pastor nick's height and weight of 192cm/6'3.5" 72kg/159lbs.

in the anime adaptation this action lasts a total of 1m14s.

35s - bearing initial weight. nick is still supporting himself and hans is not holding him that far from their combined center of mass. 22s - hans pushes him further over the ledge, increasing the distance of their center of mass from their body. this increases the amount of force that they must exert in order to hold him up. at this point hans' arm begins to shake, caused by their muscles beginning to alternate between fibers to distribute demand 17s - nick stops supporting his own weight, further increasing the amount of force hans has to exert to hold him up. killing him should not only be a mental question but also a physical one at this point

they then use the last of their strength to throw him back over the ledge. their entire body is shaking when they sit down.

the situation is somewhat unrealistic, especially hans' pose as regardless of their muscle strength they are at a major mass disadvantage and would absolutely have to place more of their own weight away from the ledge (this would naturally occur by widening their stance and lifting their unused arm on the opposite side) to avoid falling, but overall within the realm of possibility. regardless, it takes a lot of explosive strength to do something like this.

hans also has similar explosive strength on a few other occasions, notably when they kick over this table.

however in contrast, they don't seem to have much endurance

they're so exhausted from running presumably just a short distance from their horse to tell erwin that they drop to the floor lol. as if it were a regular occurrence, erwin just gets them a glass of water

so hans' endurance definitely doesn't compare to their explosive strength. which actually makes sense, considering two totally different types of muscle fibers control these types of movements.

the first type, which hans definitely has a large distribution of, are fast twitch muscle fibers. those ones use an anaerobic process to generate energy, which is also why they aren't breathing heavily after holding nick over the ledge, as their muscles used almost entirely anaerobic glycolysis to generate the energy required for the action.

the second are slow twitch fibers, used over longer durations. they use aerobic metabolism to generate energy, so this is why hans is breathing so heavily after running.

based on the disparity in their respective areas of strength, hans most likely has a higher distribution of fast twitch fibers. there is a certain gene which controls this, the ACTN3 gene. that one encodes alpha-actinin-3, which is a protein only expressed in fast twitch muscle fibers. allele variations control whether alpha-actinin-3 is actually encoded at all. individuals with a CC genotype have full expression of the gene, whereas CT or TT result in reduced production up to no production at all in individuals with a TT genotype. this is called ACTN3 deficiency. without alpha-actinin-3, muscles are shifted towards aerobic metabolism and fast twitch fibers work less efficiently.

it's actually very cool that hans' physical strength is so consistent in this way that we can even speculate on their muscle composition, up to them likely having a CC ACTN3 genotype. i haven't read much of isayama's blog but he used to post a lot about sports up to betting and predictions, so it seems like his particular athletic knowledge came into use here to depict them.

Oops, all ceruleans!

I actually have a bias towards blood castes with built in "gimmicks", i.e., purplebloods tend to be clowns, tealbloods tend to be in law or any related field, ceruleans have cool eyes sometimes etc. etc. I like having a base to work with that I can either full embrace or subvert.

okay. watched a mythbusters episode where they tested scenes from star wars

they tested the tauntaun scene where han hides luke inside of one to keep him warm while he builds a shelter.

here i was thinking the ice planet hoth must be the most unimaginably cold place ever conceived, like physically impossible to even comprehend how cold it was

instead i find out that hoth is apparently canonically only as cold as a winter on the canadian prairies? roughly -30° to -60°C

so like yeah i get why it was so dangerous to get lost- but idk it kind of takes away from the excitement of that scene for me because it’s like, i’m so accustomed to those kinds of temperatures. fully aware that it’s so easy to die in that kind of weather but also. i do hour long dog walks in that. i go ice fishing in that. i went and got a haircut and wandered around the downtown of my city while we were colder than siberia lmao (it was -52°C i believe)

So i was listening to Alice and Ares' audio clips and felt like the Ares in my head sounds just a biiittt different so i played with a couple of clips and have them here to compare

Robbie Daymond has a fairy like quality to his voice that even when he's voicing older or broodier characters didn't feel quiet like the Ares in my head

As for Evan Gulock well, ive been listening to a lot of episodes of Young Leif and the more i listen to him the more im like yeah, Ares sounds like that too lol. I took this clip from a yt vid he posted called "a town called....whatever" and as most of you probably know, the official Ares voice clip is from the game's ending cutscene

Death of a creator. Again.

You know, it's kind of ironic to me. When you think about it,DR was the first game to introduce the idea of Joey being dead in-universe (and consequently, moving the timeline forward at the same time).

Yes,of course, the books introduced this concept first (Crack-Up and TIOL),but DR was the first to introduce this specific idea into >the games<, you know? (Or, I guess,you could consider BATDS to be the first to introduce this idea thanks to Wilson's secret audio log,but I consider DR more for the fact that it's more direct in telling the player to their face that "yeah, Joey is dead, fr fr")

Then in the same game, we are introduced to this version of Joey, who is supposed to be a copy of the real one, and a living ghost memory that we encounter along Audrey's journey. And what happens to him later at the end of the game? Yep, he dies at the hands of the Ink Demon (literally)

So not only do we have the idea that of the real Joey confirmed dead in-universe introduced in this games, but we also got to see his ink copy die as well. Basically,i guess you could say that Dark Revival was the game where Joey Drew died. Twice. And I find that ironic. So much for "cheating death itself". I guess the devs weren't satisfied with him dying just once, I see.

Sorry for the pointless rambling, I don't even know if all of this made sense lol. I've had this in mind for a while now.

Oh yeah, the prompt. Yeah, the "failure of Joey Drew" line was the first thing I thought of when I saw the prompt and the little sketch attached to it on the calendar. Interested in doing this one for a while. First time doing these underwater effects. They turned out nice.

as pleased as i am that we're getting a new support hero, i can't help but be disappointed that she looks like d.va's and tracers's models just got mashed together (i literally thought it was just a new skin for either of them for a sec). i kinda want to know what the lore behind her is, but... at the same time i lost interest in new characters lore after bap :( let us know if she's at least fun to play when you get a chance to test her out!

i havent been interested in OW lore since like. idk maybe ramattra: at this point i am just here to see if the chara plays nice and if they look nice while liking the old ones LOL juno looks real fun to play with the space theme, so i'm optimistic she'll be a joy :^)

regarding juno about her appearance, i don't think she looks too much like a mash up of dva/tracer like some of the gal heroes usually do (kiriko genuinely does just make me think of tracer sometimes, for instance)..

...but i do like her 'preview' model before. at the very least, her eyes made her stand out with how sharp the lashes were coupled with her smaller face

in the model we have now, they like. nerfed her lashes LOL??? i could be coping but her old eyes looked more 'rectangular' than the rounded shape we have now also. if they kept the eyes from before, i think that would've helped make her stand out, at the very least the lashes. they have a particular style to them that just isn't translated into the in-game model now

So there's a bottle shop not too far from me that delivers to my house. This is nice because booze, in general, is too difficult for me to carry without hurting myself. I don't drink a ton, but I like having something delicious (that'll help with my joint pain) every so often.

So I've been trying a lot of different kinds of beers lately. For many years, I thought I hated beer, but I've realized that honestly I mostly just hate a lot of the beers that are popular lmao.

This time of year there are a lot of sour beers, which is nice. Those are my favorite, I think, especially the fruity ones. I'm drinking one right now that was brewed with raspberries and rose hips and it's really, really nice. Really refreshing in this warm weather.

I think the funniest thing to come out of all this, though, is that I've ended up trying a lot of beers from Anderson Valley Brewing... which is like an hour from where my parents live. So it is a little funny that I only realized I liked their beer while roughly three thousand miles away.

Dad and I are planning to go for a visit next time I'm in California to try a bunch of samples. Should be a nice day trip. I always like going down to Anderson Valley, not least because we always stop at Pennyroyal and pick up cheese. Sometimes they let us pet the baby goats, too. *_*

I'm not really going anywhere with this, I'm just excited by the prospect of petting baby animals and eating that one goat cheese they have that's mixed with blueberry preserves.
