#the coaches being so supportive of lynn <3

finally after 3 months of constant hyper fixating , i’ve finally started cooking with a StEx oc. i’m being so silly and self indulgent but who cares.
don’t have anything concrete but his name is lynn , he’s a coach car who used to go by evelyn <3 specializes in makeup n stuff <3 i like to think they’re newer than dinah but not as new as pearl.
he’s good friends with the rest of the coaches and was super nervous to come out to them. but i like to think they were extremely supportive of him. he’s a little bit of a bitch but he’s got a good heart.
lynn has no real opinion on rusty , he joins in on the teasing but thinks rusty’s got spunk.
he IS a fan of greaseball admittedly — but then electra comes along and lynn is enamored with the swag. although he thinks they do have a bit of an ego. but lynn’s like i can handle it. i think it could be a very cute relationship of lynn doing his makeup and cheering him on , perhaps being his coach in the race.
i haven’t made a design yet because i don’t know how to design train outfits. but he’s there. i love him. does anyone hear me.

april reading wrap up
i read 10 books this month! i feel like i did a mid month check in but i cannot find my post so i will just write new reviews :-)
Eileen by Ottessa Moshfegh
i really liked my year of rest and relaxation so i was looking forward to reading this but sadly it was terrible. the main character was just a little too edgy. she worked in a boy’s prison and i just hated that setting too much to continue. DNF at 100 pages.
Notes on a Silencing by Lacy Crawford
a memoir on a woman’s experience being sexually assaulted at her elite new england boarding school and the lengths the administration went to cover it up for decades. i thought this book was so powerful. also the setting of a new england boarding school in the early 90s was very atmospheric. i highly recommend. 5/5
Winter Garden by Kristin Hannah
after the death of their father, 2 daughters learn about their emotionally distant mother’s past, including the extreme challenges she faced in russia during world war 2. the first half was only okay, but we get deep into the world war 2 setting in the second half. on par with the nightingale levels of traumatizing. i just finished this last night but i think it’s probably a 4.5/5 because the second half was so strong. it made me cry so much.
People We Meet on Vacation by Emily Henry
ummm this book is perfection. it’s a travel romance and estranged best friends to lovers. two former best friends travel to palm springs together. beach read by emily henry was one of my favorite books from last year and this was even better. so so good. 5/5
The Lost Man by Jane Harper
this is the fourth book i’ve read by the author this year. this one follows a man and his family in the aftermath of one of their brother’s mysterious death in the australian outback. very atmospheric and some good discussions on the cycle of abuse. tw child abuse. 4/5
Crazy Stupid Bromance by Lyssa Kay Adams
the third book in the bromance book club series. this one is friends to lovers about a cat cafe owner and a former hacktivist. there are some unexpected discussions about the war in iraq? as with all the books in this series i really liked it and i cannot wait for the fourth one to come out this summer. 4/5
Necessary Lies by Diane Chamberlain
this KILLED me. it’s a historical fiction about forced sterilization in north carolina in the 1960s. we follow a brand new social worker and one of the families she’s assigned to. one of the girls in the family has already been sterilized without her consent and now the social worker is being pressured to sterilize the 15 year old sister. this book was pretty heavy and very informative. i listened to the audiobook which i would recommend because the narrator’s southern accent is great. 5/5
Britt-Marie Was Here by Fredrik Backman
this book gets the unfortunate honorific of the only backman book i didn’t love. we follow britt-marie, a recently divorced woman in her early 60s as she movies to a small town where she reluctantly befriends the residents and becomes the soccer coach of a youth team. this book was good but i didn’t love it. we get some good character growth and some funny parts, but it was nowhere near as good as his other books (all of which were 5/5 for me). this one is a 3/5
The Inheritance Games by Jennifer Lynn Barnes
i’m mad at this one lol. we follow the main character, a teenager who finds out she is in the will of an eccentric billionaire and he has left her billions while snubbing his relatives. she has never met this man and doesn’t know why this stranger left her his inheritance. she works with the four grandsons who were snubbed to solve riddles and discover why she was left the money. this was YA and read pretty young. for example there were discussions about losing your virginity and when the characters spoke they didn’t swear, they said things like “motherforker.” i was like i am 26 (turning 27 this month!) i am too old for this. howmever i stuck it out because i wanted to figure out why this girl inherited all that money. the gag is this is apparently the first book in the series and although i didn’t really like it i will definitely be reading the second book because it ended on a hang!!! 3/5 because of the intrigue
The Sound of Gravel by Ruth Wariner
this is a memoir about a woman’s experiences growing up on a mormon polygamist colony in mexico. her father, who was murdered when she was a baby, had over 40 children. her mother remarried and that man had four wives despite having no way to support them. everything this poor girl experienced was absolutely fucked up. i read this in a little over a day. i feel bad saying i loved it because these real experiences were extremely heavy but it was excellent. it made me cry a lot. 5/5
Klara and the Sun by Kazou Ishiguro
this book follows a robot (or artifical friend) Klara, as she is purchased by a sickly young girl. this book was pretty weird. it takes place in a dystopian setting but not a lot of details are given about what is going on in that world. it’s up to us as the reader to figure it out. this was an engaging and quick read, but i wish the author was a little more explicit about the commentary he was trying to make. 3/5

Top Canadian Finishers take a trip to China for Shanghai Endurance
Tumblr media
Leading Canadian Finishers journey to China for Shanghai Marathon
After publishing excellent times at the 2019 BMO Vancouver Marathon, Canadians David Eikelboom (2:25:25) and Rozlyn Boutin (3:05:48) took a trip to China to take part in the occasion's sibling marathon-- the Shanghai Marathon.
Review their experiences listed below.
by Rozlyn Boutin
I never might have envisioned that my launching marathon would cause the awesome series of celebrations that followed nearly half a year later. When I to begin with acquired the surprise email coming from Lynn Kanuka herself inviting me to manage the 2019 Shanghai endurance on November 17th as a result of my attend the BMO Vancouver Endurance in Might as well as with lower than 2 months' notification, I couldn't think it. Even writing this a day after coming back to grad student life in Vancouver, it still seems like it could possess been actually an aspiration!
I hadn't been actually training given that the BMO Vancouver Endurance and had several medical meetings and also 9 tours planned between receiving the email coming from Lynn and also the day of the marathon, however it was actually an expertise I couldn't refuse so I concurred along with a flutter of enthusiasm in my belly that fueled my outrageous 2-month instruction routine to come back into endurance condition as finest I could. I understood it was visiting be a whirlwind trip of a life time and a world-class take in!
Just before I recognized it, I was fulfilling Shelley (our RUNVAN ® coach/representative), David (the various other professional athlete) and also his partner at the Vancouver airport terminal and also the outrageous journey began. I wasn't certain exactly how I will manage the 12-hour tour as well as 16-hour time adjustment, but dealt with to stay hydrated as well as get the most awful of the lifeless legs out on a little bit of shakeout run the day just before the competition. After the opening night it had actually penetrated I would certainly not be actually capable to change to the amount of time improvement as well as the cope jetlag would certainly be actually genuine, however I just wished the adrenaline on race-day morning would certainly aid me obtain with it.
Our team had an amazing volunteer from the neighborhood College of Sporting activity who satisfied us at the flight terminal and also happened almost everywhere with us. She aided us navigate the foreign language barrier and happened along with me and also Shelley to establish the Vancouver endurance booth at the expo the time after our experts acquired there. The expo was actually outrageous along with lots of people and also great deals happening but the atmosphere was actually contagious! I very soon knew to simply go along with the flow and took it all in. Our team likewise received to participate in a delegate dinner, interview, and also the pre-race technical meeting along with the other elite athletes-a fairly unique expertise! Our team even satisfied an exclusive Canadian endurance legend (Reid Coolsaet) that chose at the last moment to additionally come to Shanghai- going along with him after the specialized meeting to acquire our personal canteen for the race was actually an encounter I'll always remember. Afterwards, every thing started to experience real and also I began to enjoy only exactly how incredible auto racing in an IAAF Gold Label race was actually going to be.
Regardless of getting ready for the ethnicity, our experts likewise had the chance to observe some views and experience the area. Our accommodation corrected near the Bund where the ethnicity began, and there were actually a lot of runners and tai chi-practicers the whole time the stream every morning. The whole entire metropolitan area is remarkably tidy and the illuminations in the evening are incredible-every property possesses intricate transforming illuminations and colours. Our manual illustrated Shanghai to China as being what New York is actually to the USA-and it was actually a very correct summary!
Race-day morning was actually an additional disorderly blur of exhilaration. We got out of bed to an uncharacteristically warm time with 88% moisture and also made our method to the sea of distance runners, performing our ideal to navigate the foreign language barrier, move across through the wall of guards diligently blocking the start series, and also discover cream of the crop distance runner check-in. After a series of celebrations that I believed could possess simply been actually coming from a movie, I received my time chip with 5 mins to exempt before the beginning of the race, did a tiny 40-meter workout jog, as well as unexpectedly our team were actually off! The knowledge of starting a race with 35 000 other racers all trying individual utmosts on a flat training program that would take our company with all the significant internet sites of Shanghai was truly indescribable-although I was actually therefore concentrated I most likely couldn't actually tell you what some of the web sites appeared like! I had a fantastic first fifty percent of the race as well as got on rate to make my objective of running under 3 hrs, however at the 50 percent method factor the heat energy from the sunshine depressing on our team came to me and I had not been able to keep up my nutrition and also my speeds dropped way off. In the end, Shelley's motivational illustrations and keep in minds on my water bottles every 5K kept me going and also I was actually capable to dangle on to the PB yet disappointed my goal time. After figuring out that the leading 3 females were actually taken off in wheelchairs and also provided the adrenaline-charged early morning, jetlag/lack of rest, temperature, as well as moisture, I was actually still sensibly pleased along with the end result. Having actually raced in such a fantastic competition has left me starving to carry out it once more and also wish I will possess one more chance to competition globally again.
Once it was actually all over, our team possessed the opportunity to loosen up, delight in the post-race environment, attempt some brand new meals, as well as find some additional views. We went on an awesome watercraft cruise ship of the stream in the evening after the race and found out a little concerning the record of the area. Our experts additionally had the majority of the next day to purchase till our company dropped prior to moving to the flight terminal for our air travel home. Regardless of the short trip, our company came across some really wonderful individuals as well as I absolutely found out a great deal. I certainly never assumed I 'd visit China and now would certainly not hold back to explore once more if I had the option. In general, it was an astonishing life-changing take in as well as I am actually therefore happy to have possessed the opportunity to go! Thanks to every person at the Shanghai Endurance, RUNVAN ®, as well as the coordinators of the Sibling Metropolitan area relationship!
through David Eikelboom
I had actually been having a negative day-- I do not bear in mind precisely why, yet I remember it changing quite rapidly when an email coming from Lynn Kanuka at RUNVAN ® reached my inbox.
The subject line was actually "Travel to Shanghai" and the e-mail informed me that as a result of my outcome at the BMO Vancouver Endurance, I had actually been actually invited for an expenses-paid trip to run the Shanghai Marathon through a sister-city arrangement between both occasions. My time shifted fairly quickly.
As travel setups were made, my exhilaration expanded as I performed all the research I might right into the endurance in Shanghai. The pleasure continued upon our appearance in Shanghai, where our company obtained a cozy welcome. Our team were handled effectively by our lots-- aides were actually along with our team to assist equate and also navigate the urban area, which assisted me believe assured and also relaxed.
The routine was full; going to the expo, the welcome supper as well as the pre-race technological appointment were actually interfered along with some taking in the sights and shopping. Jet lag produced first blushes and very early nights. The power created in the direction of race time, which took factors up to a brand-new amount-- 38,000 joggers and also a great number of personnel, officials, and also volunteers packed the Bund for the beginning. It was absolutely the absolute most stimulating competition begin I have experienced! Along the race course people shouted "Jiayou"-- which virtually suggests "include oil!" as an expression of support. The course was actually lovely and standard, however a warm time produced challenging conditions. It was the 1st opportunity I possessed found delicious chocolate clubs, cucumbers, as well as cakes/muffins as competition food items, but ... when in Rome? Finishing in the Shanghai arena was electrifying as well as emotional-- my time had not gone as intended, yet I was figured out to finish.
After a stream cruise line on the Huangpu Stream and a vacation to People's Square, the trip related to its own final thought. I am exceptionally happy to RUNVAN ® for the option to have actually found Shanghai, took part in an unparalleled competition, and also experienced just a small item of global running society.

More snippets from Media Day: the bond at TCC, pranks during photo session (B.B.Mook Web)
Additional snippets and photo captions from 2017-18 Media Day reported by Shinichi Yamaguchi of Figure Skate Magazine (B.B.Mook).
1. The bond between members of Team Yuzu 2. Yuzu making his entrance the same way on Day 2 3. Yuzu being a hilarious brat at the shoot (yes, the infamous one ^_^||) 4. Souvenir for the reporters, photographers, everyone working at the outlets + a special message for them.
Translated by gladi. Feel free to repost text with credit. All photos taken by Ryosuke Menjyu, images belong to B.B.Mook.

1. The bond between members of Team Yuzu
(Caption:  During open practice, scenes that made us feel his close ties with the staff were everywhere. Combined with the words from coach Brian Orser, I was struck anew by the unity of the team behind the reversal at the World Championships in Helsinki.)
Tumblr media
Personally, what left the deepest impression in my mind was the strong connection within Team Hanyu. Coaches Brian Orser and Tracy Wilson, and choreographer Shae-lynn Bourne talked (t/n at length O_O) about Hanyu’s personal character and performance. Furthermore, they spoke about this season’s programs and the Pyeongchang Olympics, but I was made aware, once again, the sheer weight of sending even a single athlete to the Olympics.
All 3 of, as Hanyu’s elders, have been through various experiences. With great respect for Hanyu, who’ve ascended to the top of the world, they also foresee at the same time the dangers stemming from being [too much of a] hard worker, and are able to dispense advice that is appropriate to the situation. The backdrop to all this is their ongoing bond with Hanyu, the exchange of ideas amongst coaches, and even further down to the roots of it all––one can really feel their love and affection for Hanyu and their professionalism as mentors.
2.  Yuzuru making his entrance the same way on Day 2
(t/n he was instructed to follow a particular course by a JSF staff on Day 1 XD)
(Caption:  The same entrance on Day 2 of the open practice as Day 1. In such great form that even shoots like this are enjoyable.)
Tumblr media
3. Yamaguchi pranked at the photo session
I’ve also covered this in the current issue, but Hanyu’s bounciness (t/n high spirits, playfulness) during the photo session left an extraordinarily deep impression. This photo session was a precious opportunity for each outlet to do their own respective photography, making use of the Cricket Club courtyard [as backdrop]. In order not to overlap with each other––“Is it okay if we take it here?” “Then, our side will be here”––the photographers made adjustments in advance (t/n they may have, but Kiss&Cry and Figure Skate Magazine still look the same 😱😂), and took turns to do their shoots, one outlet at a time. There were publishers who only did the individual interviews but not the photo session, so Figure Skate Magazine was 4th out of 9 outlets.
Our exchange were as follows:
Yamaguchi Hanyu-senshu, please can you stand right here? Just slightly incline your body, no need to make any particular expression, stare at the camera… Yep, all right then, please do so!
Hanyu    Understood! (Silently grasps the reporter’s hands, and faces the camera with a smile)
Yamaguchi    Oi! Oi! Huh? What?
Menjyu    Ahahahaha. It’ll be a great memento, won’t you do it? Then, first shot, here goes!
(Caption:  One shot from the photo session. A world champion who holds the hands of a dangerous character, self-described “stalker and terrorist,” and looks the camera in the eye. This man knows no limits ((lit. borderless man)!)
Tumblr media
Yamaguchi    No, um… Hanyu-senshu, there is no time, so… eh? Eh?
Hanyu    (strengthens his grip as if saying, "Nope, not letting go!” and continues to smile, facing the camera)
Yamaguchi    No really, um…. there really isn’t time! Let’s do this properly? Please?
Hanyu    (let go of hands as if he’s saying “I guess that’s enough, I’ll let you off”. But, slightly fishy gaze)
Yamaguchi    What’s wrong––those eyes? I wonder what’s wrong––
Hanyu (this time changing his expression one second at a time)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yamaguchi    There was something, wasn’t it? Why are you doing this––
Hanyu    (Sudden sharp gaze)
Menjyu    Ohhhhh, that’s great! Let’s do a few shots just like that. (snap, snap, snap… shutter going off)
Yamaguchi    ………… (dazed and flooded with relief)
Menjyu    All right! This scene is okay! Then––as if you’re leaning against that chair over there…..yes, yes! Just like that, a couple shots! (shutter goes off) All right! It’s a wrap!
*Time is up* (t/n according to the magazine report, the entire photo session was 16 minutes long. Shared amongst all 9 outlets… for an average of less than 2 minutes per?! o_O)
Hanyu    Thank you very much! I’m so sorry, it was such a short period of time. Thank you very much! (ran off in a hurry to where the next outlet was)
There were five outlets waiting for their turn after us, but we could hear the chatter (laced with wry laughter) amongst some photographers who were close to Hanyu: “How was it, today?” “Oh jeez, this photo can’t be used, can it!” It’s been decided that the other companies won’t look over when a photoshoot is taking place, so we don’t know the full picture but… Yuzuru Hanyu, are you a brat….?
Before the photo session, when Menjyu and I were discussing where to do our shoot, we immediately came to a conclusion. “Let’s have him stand in front of this tree here? He doesn’t have to go out of his way to smile or make a particular expression, let’s have Hanyu-senshu at his most natural state.” He had had great practices, and we’d also felt the wonderful relationship between him and the staff. That being the case, there was no need to overly embellish, was there?
4. Souvenir for the reporters, photographers, everyone working at the outlets + a special message for them.
(Caption: Special clear files distributed to the press. “Everyone else back at work too, please feel free”––the files were bagged up and handed to us. When we returned to work, colleagues, mainly the ladies, kept showing up, and the files were gone in a flash.)
Yuzuru’s message on the files for all the reporters + photographers + their colleagues back at work:
Last season, everyone has helped so much and taken such great care of me. This season too, I am going to perform like myself, with my utmost effort! Thank you for your continued support, hereon into the future!
2017.8.08-09. Yuzuru Hanyu

NFL power rankings: Seahawks, Bills, Steelers get closer to top; Eagles, Vikings in a free fall for Week 3
Tumblr media
Week 2 in the NFL meant every team that played at home in Week 1 had to go on the road, and vice versa. After only two games, or through one-eighth of the 2020 season, there’s a already a better indication of what teams are headed somewhere vs. nowhere.
A few teams on either the best or the worst side of performed exactly how one expects. But this is in the NFL, where surprises and disappointments are par for the course, even in the sprint stage before the marathon.
After some more predictable results, here’s how all 32 teams stack up against each other going into Week 3 in Sporting News’ latest look at the league hierarchy:

NFL power rankings
1. Kansas City Chiefs 2-0 (last week’s ranking: 1)
The run defense continues to have problems and their passing offense isn’t always automatic. But they still have Patrick Mahomes to save the day, and all he needs is a chance late. That escape from Los Angeles keeps the dream of 16-0 alive, but the No. 2 team here is next on the schedule.
2. Baltimore Ravens 2-0 (2)
The Ravens have flown to similar heights with Lamar Jackson doing his efficient passing and running MVP thing again. They’ve enjoyed a couple of walkovers against the Browns and the Texans, but they finally get their rematch with the Chiefs to prove just whether they can be the AFC’s best again.
3. Seattle Seahawks 2-0 (4)
They have Russell Wilson and a strong running game and that has helped them get through some major run and pass defense issues early. But Wilson did outduel two former MVPs, Matt Ryan and Cam Newton. The elite QB fun continues against Dak Prescott and the Cowboys.
MORE: Russell Wilson locked in, trying to prove he’s NFL’s best QB
4. Buffalo Bills 2-0 (5)
Josh Allen is trying to get himself in the same fun-and-gun company as Mahomes and Jackson. The Bills haven’t made it look all that easy at times against the Jets and the Dolphins, but the solid results are there. The Rams will be a good tougher test.
5. Pittsburgh Steelers 2-0 (7)
Ben Roethlsiberger is back for sure and the running game keeps on pounding out the hits. Their defense may be trying to catch up, perhaps knowing there is less of a burden on them to sack, intercept and strip to save the day. They should keep rolling on the Texans.
6. Green Bay Packers 2-0 (6)
The Packers have done whatever they want with Aaron Rodgers and Aaron Jones, throwing back to their most explosive offensive days. The Lions and Vikings were pushovers, however, and they draw the stronger Saints on the road in prime time.
7. Los Angeles Rams 2-0 (10)
The Rams can run the ball with anyone again and keep taking pressure of Jared Goff with a friendlier passing game. They also have seen their defensive scheming shakeup work really well to complement their superstars, Aaron Donald and Jalen Ramsey.
8. Arizona Cardinals 2-0 (9)
The Cardinals have seen Kyler Murray give opponents the run-around with a big assist from DeAndre Hopkins. They also have to be pleased how their defense is rising behind Chandler Jones and in front of Budda Baker. Kliff Kingsbury is an early coach of the year candidate.
MORE: Kyler Murray for MVP? Don’t sleep on it
9. New Orleans Saints 1-1 (3)
The Saints didn’t make it perfect to stay ahead of the Buccaneers with a loss at the Raiders. They got caught looking ahead the Packers, as they need to navigate better not having Michael Thomas.
10. New England Patriots 1-1 (8)
File Kingsbury under Bill Belichick, who waited a long time to find Cam Newton to replace Tom Brady. They got Newton for almost nothing and now he’s playing like a healthy all-around MVP again. Unreal.

11. San Francisco 49ers 1-1 (11)
The 49ers keep getting decimated by injuries, indicating that they are not immune to post-Super Bowl attrition. They have to survive with what they have offensively and defensively without Jimmy Garoppolo and Nick Bosa. One wonders how long they can hang on. They do return to New York to face the weak Giants, however, as another break in Week 3.
12. Tampa Bay Buccaneers 1-1 (12)
The Bucs righted the pirate ship at home, finding their strong running game with Ronald Jones and Leonard Fournette to support Brady in his downfield-throwing efforts. The schedule continues to open a bit where they will stay on the Saints’ heels.
13. Dallas Cowboys 1-1 (15)
The Cowboys need to pay Prescott long-term, stat, after that latest miracle he pulled against the Falcons. He does whatever’s needed passing and running to cover all their other issues include a lack of discipline and consistent defense.
MORE: Why Cowboys are “America’s Most Exciting Team”
14. Tennessee Titans 2-0 (19)
The Titans did make it to the AFC championship with a similar offensive formula, Ryan Tannehill making efficient big plays working off the power running threat of Derrick Henry. But their defense hasn’t looked all that good against two limited offenses. Luckily, their schedule gives them the struggling Vikings next.
15. Las Vegas Raiders 2-0 (18)
The Raiders took advantage of their Panthers matchup and got more confident with a big upset win in Las Vegas over the Saints. They follow by facing the Patriots on a short week, another good litmus test.
15. Chicago Bears 2-0 (20)
The Bears have danced past the Lions and Washington Football Team in a very nice opening schedule, rediscovering their running game and defense foundation. They will need Mitchell Trubisky to pass a lot better with the Falcons up next.
16. Los Angeles Chargers 1-1 (13)
Justin Herbert may not have the starting gig for good, Anthony Lynn says? What the? Going back to Tyrod Taylor, even if healthy, would not make any sense. Plus, it’s the Panthers in Week 3, a great game for Herbert to keep building confidence. The rookie leaning so well on running game, defense and good receivers had to be inspiring, right?
MORE: Breaking down Justin Herbert’s NFL debut vs. Chiefs
18. Washington Football Team 1-1 (16)
Washington had a wake-up call against the Cardinals as it couldn’t stop Murray and Dwayne Haskins can’t do too much with limited help around him. Ron Rivera’s team overachieved against the Eagles, but it might take a while for another win with the Browns next on the road.
19. Cleveland Browns 1-1 (24)
The Browns found their run-heavy successful formula in Week 2, taking the major pressure off Baker Mayfield. They get another break to get above .500 with Washington back in Cleveland.
20. Indianapolis Colts 1-1 (26)
The Colts are a hard team to read. Their offense and defense tend to be roller-coaster rides where everything starts with running the ball well and stopping the run. But what they get out of Philip Rivers in the passing game, plus their pass rush and pass coverage, are real wild cards that might keep them out of contention.

21. Jacksonville Jaguars 1-1 (21)
The Jaguars can’t think about drafting Gardner Minshew’s replacement now, can they? He’s lifted them to a surprise victory and they aren’t that far from being 2-0 because of him. Amazing what giving him top skill support does.
22. Houston Texans 0-2 (22)
Deshaun Watson is short on skill support as he misses Hopkins at wide receiver. The defense is worse, putting more on him to win games with his arm and legs. Without Watson, this may be the worst team in the league.
23. Philadelphia Eagles 0-2 (17)
The Eagles are getting shoddy play from Carson Wentz when he was such a big factor in lifting them last season. The offensive line and wide receiver issues have been bigger than expected. But that defense is also getting pounded more than expected, too.
24. Minnesota Vikings 0-2 (14)
Kirk Cousins has had a rough start because they are more dependent on him. The defense is the most disastrous it has ever been under Mike Zimmer. Miinnesota needs to take down Tennessee at home in Week 3 to save the season.
25. Atlanta Falcons 0-2 (25)
The Falcons keep having issues everywhere defensively that bring down all their great offensive firepower around Ryan, now led by red-hot Calvin Ridley. Dan Quinn needs his team to beat the Bears to save his job for now.
26. Denver Broncos 0-2 (23)
Von Miller isn’t playing.  Drew Lock isn’t playing. Phillip Lindsay isn’t playing. Courltand Sutton may need to miss more time. This has been a Mile High nightmare of injuries, worse than John Elway could have expected. Tampa Bay up next doesn’t help.
27. Cincinnati Bengals 0-2 (28)
The Bengals go up a notch because of only Joe Burrow this week. Everything else about their team not involving him remains a mess.
28. New York Giants 0-2 (27)
The Giants had a lot of promise for Daniel Jones, and despite two valiant efforts, they are winless. The defense is improved, but now the offense has been greatly worsened by Saquon Barkley going down.

29. Carolina Panthers 0-2 (29)
The Panthers’ defense is pretty bad and their shining light on offense, Christian McCaffrey will likely be out a while. Oh boy.
30. Miami Dolphins 0-2 (31)
When will it be Tua Tagovailoa time? Not Thursday night against the Jaguars but soon.
31. Detroit Lions 0-2 (30)
The Lions are really crumbling around Matthew Stafford as no Kenny Golladay has hurt and their defense is about to doom Matt Patricia.
32. New York Jets 0-2 (32)
Adam Gase is asking for his team to dismiss him with his bad personnel moves and offense that looks more like debacle than genius.

When Anthony Lynn, head coach of the Los Angeles Chargers, was in third grade, his world changed. He grew up in Celina, Texas—the son of a single mother, and one of the few Black kids in what was then a small town north of Dallas. A girl—Lynn thought she was cute—was handing out invitations to her birthday party one day, when Lynn noticed she skipped him and a Black girl in the class. When Lynn asked why, the response left him devastated. It’s because you’re Black and my parents won’t allow you to come to my place.
“After that moment, I never saw things the same,” Lynn, now 51, tells TIME in a video call from his office in Costa Mesa, Calif., where the Chargers are headquartered and holding training camp. “That’s when I knew the world was different. There’s a difference being Black and white. Then I started seeing color.” Lynn says this, and other experiences with racism throughout his life, helped motivated him to reach the top ranks of the NFL, where he is now one of just three Black head coaches. “I didn’t didn’t like the fact that people didn’t think I was equal, or thought they were better than me,” says Lynn. “I can’t say race wasn’t a big part of why I’m where I’m at. Because it pushed me.”
Now, the realities that Lynn confronted head-on in his life are at the forefront of his job as head coach. He sees systemic racism in the NFL, a league in which Black men are 60% of the players, but less than 10% of head coaches. He sees it in the streets, with the killing of George Floyd and the shooting of Jacob Blake. “I was like, wow, again?” Lynn says of watching the video of police shooting Blake in Kenosha, Wis. “It’s always unarmed Black men. And seven times? That just made me sad, man. I got emotional.” On Aug. 26 the Milwaukee Bucks declined to take the court for a playoff game against the Orlando Magic; other teams across sports also staged strikes, effectively shutting down the games. The Chargers were supposed to hold a scrimmage at their new home, the $5 billion SoFi Stadium, the next day. Lynn called a team meeting, and let players express their frustrations. “After that, no way could we take the field and practice,” says Lynn. “Because something was more important than football at that time.” The scrimmage was cancelled.

Lynn’s Chargers will kick off an NFL season like no other this weekend. In the midst of a pandemic and national reckoning on race, L.A. travels to Cincinnati to take on the Bengals and the No. 1 pick in the 2020 draft, quarterback Joe Burrow, on Sunday. While Lynn says he would have supported a player walkout in Week 1, he did not encourage it. “If I thought not playing Week 1 would make a major change, I’d give these boys the whole week off,” says Lynn. “I wouldn’t show up. But we’re football players, we’re not politicians.”
Still, don’t expect silence. In the past, Lynn says he’s tried to keep talk of controversial social issues—like Colin Kaepernick’s kneeling during the National Anthem—out of the locker room, lest it become a dreaded “distraction.” “We can talk about that s–t in February, in late February hopefully,” says Lynn, explaining his prior philosophy. Not so this year. “If I was to suppress this, I think it would hurt their passion and I don’t think they would play the game that they love well,” he says.
After Los Angeles made the playoffs in 2018, his second season as Chargers coach, Lynn’s team finished 5-11 last year. He’s under pressure to correct the course as the Chargers move into a new home. Lynn’s team will share SoFi Stadium with the Los Angeles Rams while desperately fighting for fans in an L.A. market that has greeted them mostly with indifference since moving from San Diego in 2017. Still, Lynn says his focus is not just victory on the field. “We have committed to winning the championship,” he says, “and fighting for social justice.”
A bunch of plays are diagrammed on a white board behind his Lynn’s desk; he’s wearing a Chargers cap and jacket during our interview, and some gray stubble is peppered on his chin. Lynn’s no typically programmed football coach. He talks in a real, conversational manner, which is all-too-rare in his ranks.
As a kid he played quarterback on youth teams in football-crazed Celina. In seventh grade, however, a coach informed Lynn he’d be moving to running back. “He goes, ‘Black kids can’t play quarterback,'” Lynn says. Lynn asked why. “Well, they’re not smart enough,” the coach responded.
These accumulated experiences with racism “made me more aggressive,” says Lynn; he got into fights in school, but he also channelled his anger onto the football field, eventually earning a scholarship to Texas Tech University and playing in the NFL for the San Francisco 49ers and Denver Broncos; he won a pair of Super Bowl rings with Denver in 1997 and 1998.
Tensions boiled over during Lynn’s senior year at Texas Tech. Lynn says police were gathered at an apartment building where two teammates were staying; when he went to see what was happening, the cops “just jacked me up against a wall.” They asked if he was a drug dealer. “And I just lost it, man,” Lynn says. “The next thing I know I’m fighting with his cop and I’m on top of him and I get hit in the back of the head with a billy club and they got me tied down on the ground and they’re taking me to jail and the one officer kicked me inside my head.” Thanks to Lynn’s football connections, the cops eventually let him go. “Today, I would have been shot,” says Lynn. “I mean, think about that. I said, ‘I would have been shot.’ I was dead wrong going off on that cop. But it was just years of accumulation of this and that. I can’t go to the birthday party. I can’t play quarterback.”
Lynn stresses that he has great respect for police officers. In 2005, after he was struck by a drunk driver while crossing the street in Ventura, Calif., police officers helped save his life. The near-fatal incident left Lynn with temporary paralysis and injuries that required four surgeries. He has remained friends with one of the officers who rescued him. Still, he tires of the constant stings of racism. Just last year, he was pulled over for what he calls a “bogus reason.” Before a white officer asked him for license and registration, Lynn says, he asked if he had been in jail or on probation. “I’m afraid for some people that might not be as strong minded, if they hear something like that too many times, they start to believe it,” says Lynn. “That they’re not better. That they’re not equal. That’s my biggest fear. But for me, it just pisses me off. It always has.”

Lynn’s also irked that only three of the NFL’s 32 head coaches—Lynn, Brian Flores of the Miami Dolphins, and Pittsburgh’s Mike Tomlin—are Black. “I’m not comfortable with that number,” Lynn says. As recently as 2017, there were seven Black head coaches in the league. (Washington Football Team coach Ron Rivera, who’s Latino, is the NFL’s only other minority head coach). The Rooney Rule, which was implemented in 2003 to guarantee that at least one minority candidate is interviewed for open head coaching positions, seems broken. Is this the product of systemic racism? Lynn agrees that’s a fair assessment. “I played in this league for eight years, and a player knows a head coach when he sees one,” says Lynn. “There were African-American coaches that could have been head coaches but just never got the opportunity.”
How do you fix this? Lynn believes reforming the head coach feeder system will help. Between 2009 and 2019, according to a recent study from Arizona State University, offensive coordinator was the most frequent former position for head coaches: 40% of NFL head coaches were hired from offensive coordinator spots (NFL defensive coordinator, and NFL head coach, were the next most frequent positions). During same period, however, 91% of offensive coordinator hires were white.
“I’ve seen so many play callers get head jobs that have no personality, no leadership whatsoever,” says Lynn, who during his 17 years as an assistant coach in the NFL never entered a season holding a coordinator position (a few weeks into the 2016 season he was named offensive coordinator in Buffalo; that year he took over as interim head coach for one game after Rex Ryan was fired). His coaching career previously saw him as mostly a running backs coach and assistant head coach. Broadening the feeder system would result in a more diverse—and talented—candidate pool. “And then you wonder why every year in the National Football League we are firing anywhere from six to eight head coaches?” says Lynn. “If we open this thing up to position coaches, assistant head coaches, then you’re going to have more African-American applicants.”
He also believes Black coaches have to win faster than their white counterparts to keep their jobs secure. “I’m not happy with the leash that African-American coaches get,” says Lynn. “I had my first losing season last year. And I come home one day and my wife is like, ‘Honey, are you okay?’ And I’m like, ‘Why wouldn’t I be? I’m fine’. And she’s like, ‘Well, do you not know half the country wants you fired?’
When he entered coaching, Lynn understood the hurdles. The memories of being told he couldn’t attend a birthday party because he’s Black, or being asked if he was a drug dealer, were never too far from his mind. Lynn’s grandfather once told him he’d always have to be better because of his skin color. He’s never forgotten those words. “It’s a shame, but I know that going into it,” says Lynn. “I know I’ve got to turn this damn thing around, soon. But at the same time, I’m going to stand up for what’s right. I’m going to speak out when I have to. I’m not going to let that scare me from doing that as a human being.”
To wit: he’s unafraid to say that Kaepernick got a raw deal. Lynn is happy with this current quarterbacks, but did express some interest in Kaepernick earlier in the summer. “I do think there’s a possibility that Kaep could come on somebody’s roster this year because you can hold roster spots for veteran players now because of injuries and because maybe of COVID,” says Lynn. “There’s still a possibility there. But Colin’s busy doing things to help make a change and he’s signing big deals, he might not have the time to come back and play NFL football. But I know over the years he should have been given an opportunity. There’s no doubt about that. We’ve had those discussions. I can say that. We’ve had those discussions.”

Lynn is facing unprecedented challenges in carrying out his team’s turnaround plan. Start with his own bout with COVID-19; he was diagnosed while on a trip to Dallas, to visit his mother, in late June. “You always say, well, it’s really only killing 1%,” says Lynn. “But when you get it, start thinking about that 1%.” He’s not sure how he got infected. “I mean no one was more paranoid about this than me,” Lynn says. “You’re talking about a guy that has hand sanitizer in his front belt loop everywhere he goes. Wears gloves, masks.” Lynn’s lungs collapsed during the car accident 15 years go, which he feared would make him even more vulnerable. “And so it was some anxiety there for a little while,” says Lynn. “For me it was a really, really bad flu for about three or four days.”

In training camp, Lynn believes COVID-19 has affected team chemistry. “A big part of football is camaraderie,” he says. “When you have to social distance, it’s hard to build a team.” The first full in-person, locker room team meeting Lynn had was on Aug. 27, at SoFi Stadium, to discuss the Blake shooting. “I could just feel the people craving that community, that fellowship,” he says. “We haven’t had it. It’s going to be difficult to build tight teams and trust with new players when you don’t have that. The longer we do without it, the more of us see it. I mean, this is Zoom all year. Are you kidding me? It’s going to be different. But we knew that it was going to be a challenge and we’ve got to figure out a way to still make it work.”
The Chargers enter this season with veteran Tyrod Taylor starting at quarterback. A potential franchise QB, Justin Herbert—the sixth overall pick in this year’s draft, out of Oregon—will be the backup. (Quarterback Philip Rivers, who started every game for the Chargers the last 14 seasons, signed with Indianapolis in the offseason). Preseason games were cancelled this year; in some ways, this made Lynn’s training camp smoother. Because if Herbert shined in preseason games, screams to start him right away would have been pronounced.
In sticking with Taylor as the starter, Lynn cites John Elway and Peyton Manning, two legends who started their rookie years; each threw more interceptions than TDs (Manning threw a rookie-record 28 interceptions in 1998, tops in the NFL that year). “But those guys are two real strong-minded individuals, Hall of Famers,” he says. “Not everybody’s wired that way, man. It’s not everybody that can overcome that. So I don’t expect [Herbert] to come in and play right away. I think sitting him for a year would do nothing but benefit him.”
Does Herbert seem to have the Elway-Manning mentality, or is it too early to tell? “He is a leader in his own way,” says Lynn. “He’s more of an introvert. He quieter, but he communicates when he has to with his teammates. And people try to say that was a knock with him coming out. Said he has all the tools but wasn’t much of a leader. Introverts get labeled that way. I just know these players react well to him.”
The Chargers spent the last three seasons playing in a Carson, Calif. soccer stadium that held just 27,000 fans, by far the smallest capacity in the NFL. Now, they will move into a shiny $5 billion palace playing in front of zero fans, due to the pandemic, making the team’s effort to win the hearts and minds of Los Angeles even more difficult. “L.A. is a hard city,” says Lynn. “You have to be successful here, bro. You’ve got to win. And if you don’t, people just do other things. And there are other sports franchises here that people are attached to. So it’s no doubt a hard market. But people respect that hard work, young men of high character that are helping their communities and doing things that we’re doing. It’s just a matter of time before we have a strong fan base here. But we knew when we moved here it wasn’t going to happen overnight. Just like social justice. It isn’t going to happen overnight.”
More than ever, social justice will be a major theme of the NFL season. An Alicia Keys rendition of “Lift Every Voice And Sing,” a song known as the Black National Anthem, was played before Thursday night’s season-opening Kansas City Chiefs-Houston Texans game. At least some players are likely to kneel during the National Anthem or utilize some other form of protest when the NFL kicks off this weekend. Lynn recalls the reaction of his players after Blake’s shooting. “I’ve been dealing with this s—t since since I was nine years old,” says Lynn. “I was more sad that day for how they felt. We’ve got to move beyond it. We’re certainly not going to forget about it. But I wish I could do something to make them feel better in moments like that.”
Still, the Chargers coach remains confident that his recent powerful wave of sports activism will bring change, both inside and outside the NFL. “I’ve got to tell you, I’ve never seen so many people from all different backgrounds and colors come together and want change,” says Lynn. “So man, I’m hopeful. I’m very hopeful.”

Patrick Mahomes‘ girlfriend Brittany Matthews made headlines this week after she claimed that she was harassed by New England Patriots fans on Sunday while cheering on her boyfriend, who plays for the Kansas City Chiefs.
Matthews wrote on Twitter earlier this week that she had to be moved by security at the game because the Patriots’ hometown fans were harassing her. “Gillette security came and got us and moved us to a safe place
Tumblr media
,” she explained. “That’s how you know it was bad

.”
Mahomes, a quarterback for the Chiefs, and Matthews have been dating for years. Read on for everything you need to know about the former soccer star and current fitness coach.
She and Mahomes are high school sweethearts.
Matthews and Mahomes, both 24, met in high school while attending Whitehouse High School in Whitehouse, Texas. According to Yahoo! Sports, they’ve been dating since the 10th grade. In 2013, the pair went to prom together, as seen in an adorable throwback photo on Mahomes’ Instagram.
After graduation, Matthews went on to play college soccer at the University of Texas at Tyler while Mahomes played football at Texas Tech University. Despite going to different colleges, the athletic couple maintained their strong relationship.
“My valentine from the beginning to now!

Matthews is a former college and professional soccer player.
After playing college soccer at the University of Texas at Tyler, Matthews also went on to play professionally in Iceland, according to her website.
“I didn’t even see myself playing college soccer when I graduated high school,” Matthews said in a 2017 interview with the Tyler Morning Telegraph. “However, I ended up coming to UT Tyler to play soccer because it was close to home and I knew a few girls that played here that loved it and told me I need to join the family.”
“So I did, and these last four years have made me fall in love with soccer all over again and want to go on and play professional soccer,” she added.
The outlet reported that she signed with the Iceland pro team of UMF Afturelding/Fram after college.

She now runs her own fitness company.
After her soccer career, Matthews went on to form her own fitness company, Brittany Lynne Fitness.
“By the end of my first season , I truly began to fall in love with being in the gym more than being on the soccer field,” she explains on her website. “Playing sports my whole life got me into fitness and playing in college taught me about strength training, wellness and maintaining peak fitness to perform at an elite level.”
The company offers various training programs and gear available for purchase.

The couple plans on living together in Kansas City for a “long time.”
Earlier this year, Mahomes bought a $1.925 million house in Kansas City, the home of his football team, according to USA Today.
In an August Bleacher Report video showing the inside of the football player’s home — including his massive shoe wall! — the couple explained that they wanted to “set down roots” in the Midwestern city.
“Setting down roots in Kansas City was huge for us. I think the people are what we love the most about Kansas City,” Mahomes said. “We’re trying to be here for a long, long time.”
Matthews agreed: “Very long! We love it here.”

Ice Explosion 2020
Let me share a little report of Ice Explosion 2020 here, at least, the Daisuke’s parts. It was a lively, warm and friendly send-off for him as much as a huge gift from him to his fans. It was happy, fun and emotional time. The venue was our familiar Shin-Yokohama Ice Arena, where Friends on Ice and Christmas on Ice had been held. The cast skaters are similar to the other two. Due to the lack of time so soon after the Nationals and the biggest holidays of Japan I was prepared to see another show exactly like those and tried to be understanding. Well, it did have the same format. Some group numbers, each individual programs, collaboration works with a live artist, even Mr. Gamada’s passionate MC style that comes with teasing with his heavy love to the skaters (or all the mankind). They are all there. But this is made of, for and about Daisuke Takahashi and celebrating the years of his singles competitive career and cheering for his new beginning as an ice dancer with Kana Muramoto. The first show of the Day 1, I found the seats are fully occupied though it was early afternoon of a weekday and pretty busy time of the year for homemakers. The opening: On the ice the images lightning flashed. Daisuke came out alone all in black. T-shirt, pants and his face buried in the hood of a thin, crisp and loose robe. aimlessly skating he was lost and powerless. In the dim lights he blindly let out white breath in the cold air a few times, once with his face up. It reminded his “Marnie” video he made in 2015. (It was the very first beauty I noticed in this show but sadly this visible breath never happened again on five other shows) Another being came over to give him power. And three pairs of other “animals” as well. According to the notes ran on the upper wall, he must have been given eyes of an eagle, ears of an wolf, strength of a bear and speed of a puma. Making him a brave soul. Now he raised up. All the skaters came out on the ice and he took charge. Music: “4 Powers” by Bravestar https://youtu.be/n0AsEcIRvq8 Now he is the leader of the pack. He gives them power... later it turned out that this was choreographed by Kenji Miyamoto but some of the movements I felt it was an homage to The Phoenix. This opening was so cool I wanted more. Music: “The Time is Now” by atreyu https://youtu.be/ss_JgjdxX40 After the opening two Chinese junior skaters, coached by Pang/Tong pair (I believe they are considered not a major group in China unlike nationally backed one around the gold medalist pairs of the Vancouver. Dai might have felt to give them encouragement for the long year friends). They skated alternatively, 13 years old girl in the early show and 16 YO boy for the evening. Then Kana Muramoto’s “Feeling Good”. I was thrilled when in the middle of the program she rose from lying position and skated straight to me. Enticing and sensuous, yet she got class. She got sense of movements like her new partner. She could connect with the audience. I can see Kana + Dai will be a bomb to the ice dancing with or without their numerical success. At the very end of the program Daisuke joined and they skated together just to finish. I got excited with fingers crossed. The very first official performance in public for the couple was really short. They looked great to present passionate movement together. In two seconds it was over and the applause came he moved away from the center back to his humble self and gave her his cute clapping. After individual programs of Keiji Tanaka (“pump it”- wonderful all through, good luck in the Worlds) and Kanako Murakami (”Boléro” ambitious music choice of Shae-Lynn’s Choreography) then Tanith and Ben’s (-simply fun!), Misha Ge (“Les Feuilles mortes ”- beautiful ), the collaboration pieces with a violinist Ms Emiri Miyamoto were presented. Akiko Suzuki’s Lavender pro, (splendid) team PIW and Andrew/Kaitlyn’s ”Time to Say Goodbye” choreographed by Kana Muramoto (my heart ached) and Shizuka Arakawa’s continental tango choreographed by Kanako Murakami (awesome). And the Meryl and Charlie skated to a great love song (no name at hand) Then, the last of the Act I had come. The two men from PIW team, Dai’s long time friend Hirokazu Kobayashi, also Yuta Onuma, and Elladj Balde started it to the strong tune of: Music: My Songs Know What You Did In The Dark by Fall Out Boy https://youtu.be/LkIWmsP3c_s After the short, athletic and artful skating and dancing, Ms. Miyamoto’s live violin stepped in and started very intense tune that grew into ... isn’t it? Isn’t it that? It’s coming, I know it’s coming.. here we go!! The intro of the Phoenix and Daisuke came in! The audience roared. The four guys made a formation of one line one behind another w Dai in the front, as the violinist quietly turned and walked out. And the Fall Out Boy’s song started and now the audience went wild. I love this group version. In and out to skate Daisuke could pour all his energy into the major dance movements w/o pacing to save it for the elements. (And after each of his all-out performances he still had a hard time getting up. But to his credit he completely nailed beautiful 3 Lutz on ALL the six performances!) The piece had more than a few screaming points and I prepared lozenge after Day 1 but it didn’t save my voice very well. Daisuke being one of the group didn’t water it down. It got more intense. More fire. He didn't try to blend in to the group like he used to do. He was even more Daisuke than any other time. The rest boys danced to Daisuke’s Phoenix or so I felt. I wish this to be one of his standard repertory or at least to be brought to a few more shows. And I seriously worry about the roof or the structural damage of the venue. The performers and the audience, even the other skaters dancing at rink side shook the entire house. The Act II started with “Welcome to the Ice Dance World” to the music of Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast medley”. Two of the ice dancing couples, Meryl/Charlie and Tanith/Ben and the baby couple just hatched, Kana/Dai. Kana in white, looking pure and fresh, found and picked up a red rose. It is the key item of time limit of the curse for true love to break in the original story. Maybe it didn’t have so much role in THIS program but later on it earned a very nice story to cherish in my memory. She gracefully skated and left the rose in the back, and the two senior couples showed their craft and what ice dancing is made of. (Throughout the show the three couples displayed variety of lifts seemingly to educate the newcomers and help creating their own) Dai came in with the rose. Still in the boots for singles but he swiftly reached to Kana and presented the flower. Instead of staying there to check her reaction he ran to the other end of the rink and showed off his ballet jump. But now he saw her dancing with the two other guys. He didn’t know what to do and turned to the two other ladies. (←←One of my favorite moments I can’t get enough) They quickly checked and touched up his hair and clothes and gave a cheer-up clap in the back to send him back to her. And then this brand new couple got together and started skating while the two other couples (and the audience as well) gave them parental smiles... After that show went on with: Keiji (Hip Hip Chin Chin) Kanako, Akane and Kiki (PIW crews, Dancing Hero of from 80’s Bubble age ) Chinese Jr. Group performance (Soothing) Elladj (Love it) Kaitlyn/Andrew (Adorable) Then the violinist Emiri Miyamoto with Akiko, Misha and 4 of PIW crews presented Wild West number, “Roundtable Rival” by Lindsey Stirling. The Great Emiri time! I believe I was excused to keep watching her and her “dancing” while playing instead of skaters because at the end the skaters weren’t credited. Only the violinist’s name announced. (But skaters were really lovely) Followed by Shizuka Arakawa’s “One Day I’ll Fly Away” and Meryl/Charlie’s Queen, the last solo of Dai. The recorded narration in his soft voice was played first. I try to put it in English as close as possible to his original. (Words are from my memory and a few peoples’ tweets. Sorry for the missing or mistaken parts.) “My figure skating life that started when I was eight years old, now has reached 25 years, quickly. In days, those years count about 9000 days. Looking back I feel them both long and short. Lots of scenes come back from my memories. Sometimes I had tears of regret, sometimes I shared tears of joy with my buddies. All the experiences are my treasures. With these memories I am now closing the final curtain of my competitive life as a singles skater. But at the same time, the curtain of my new life as a competitor is opening. There must be a lot of walls stand in the path and I am going to go over one by one and I am hoping to see and looking forward to the new sceneries beyond. I am grateful to all the people around who had supported me and also all of you in the audience who had cheered for me and given me courage at any time. Thank you so very much. And I hope I will have your support to continue.” He came out once again on the ice in a casual, living-room wear of a long camel colored cardigan sweater on a white T shirt and black pants. While preparing the performance to start, somewhat similar words from Daisuke were running on the upper wall screen in English. And it ended with these words, “I hope to continue my dream with all of you by my side.” And he skated to “9000 Days” from the movie Invictus. https://youtu.be/UjCW9ktWB88 His beautiful skating that floats over the ice, unprepared gentle lifting and soft landing of his jumps, (Salchow and Lutz), movement of his arms connected to his back and shoulders. All were organically harmonized. They were all there, those other things Dai always had been giving that he skipped during The Phoenix. In a way for some reason I relate this piece to the final skating of Genji’s wailing in Hyoen. He put everything with his deep emotion, only this is full of thankfulness. He was smiling all through the program. I have never seen that before. At the end of it all the skaters came to give a huge group hug. The circle around him got so tight and he went completely out of sight. The show ended. The applause at the end of this was somewhat subdued. Clapping endlessly most of his fans in the audience choked and no one felt like screaming out. Instead, I imagine, many were hugging the banner and their own memories and inwardly shout thanks like I did. The lights were up and now fun time of finale. The music for finale “Ever Again” and grand finale “Celebrate”. Each time he tried 4T and fell. (Pretty nice try though) The very last one when he fell he got on his stomach and cover his face with his both hands, mighty cute (again). The very last day Kana found something within the front row of the audience on the north side, the opposite of the front. She went over to Daisuke and talked to him and two went over to that corner of north almost to the west. They gave something to the one of the guests and the people around pleasantly reacted. Later I found this on a few tweets: they saw the banner of K7/D1 to cheer up for both Kana and Dai. Kana found it first and went to Dai, bashfully telling him something. He saw it too and made a broad smile and they gave her the rose they used in the show. I hope TV Tokyo will show it when they air the complete version. I will add a few bits more if I can, but I have to go to the gate to catch my flight. Thank you very much for reading.

Got Tinnitus or Diabetes?! Read more...
Tumblr media
This is how my mind works and I try to train the other Harmonic Egg center owners to think like me.  Maybe that’s a mistake…ha ha!  No one really wants to be in my head.  There is a squirrel in there that never stops running around on a wheel.  Okay, you should have smiled at that. I was in San Diego for a wedding and someone there solicited my help with Type 2 diabetes.  In my studies of 11 years I have learned that in order to help diabetes (Type 1 seems to be more about the Pancreas and Type 2 more about the Liver) you need to make some diet changes.  This gentleman’s diagnosis was Type 2 so that is what I will mostly write about here, but feel free to reach out if you want more information on Type 1 Diabetes.   I will get to Tinnitus in a minute. Type 2 Diabetes being about the liver being fatty and unable to break down fats and cause an insulin resistance, or the body not able to work like it should because the liver is not pulling its weight.  I have clients reduce fatty foods (lower their intake of animal proteins, no fried foods, no dairy, etc.).  I have clients increase their fruits and vegetable intake. Yes, fruits.  We have been hoodwinked to believe that fruits are dangerous for diabetics, but in fact there are essential minerals in fruits that help the liver and the body work efficiently.   Listen to this podcast, as it makes the most sense to me on how to explain what I just stated.  https://soundcloud.com/medicalmedium/fruit-fear The liver needs support, not detoxing.  The liver needs hydration, mineral salts, glucose and oxygen.  Learn how in this webinar I created for people wanting to support their liver.  https://lifecenter.us/liver-health-and-weight-issues-webinar (or watch below). Be sure to take notes on the things to do to support the liver.  Your liver is supporting you on a daily basis, even when you are sleeping so be good to your liver. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VLEP523CaxE Almost to the Tinnitus part.  This gentleman, from San Diego, has Type 2 diabetes so bad he’s on several medicines (meds) and he’s now seeing double vision in one eye and having to wear an eye patch.  He is to the point of being desperate for help.  I wish people would not get to that point before helping themselves, but in our fast-paced world with quick fix mentalities we just take meds and hope that quick fix will be enough to keep us going.  The problem is, it’s not!  It’s masking symptoms that keep getting worse because we are not resolving the root cause of the problem. While having dinner one night, this gentleman mentioned that when he drinks coffee his ears ring really bad.  These are things I pay attention to and store in my mind for that squirrel to run around and then find the pieces of my knowledge that fit into a more clear puzzle.  I have read that Type 2 Diabetes can also be heavy metals or a viral load attacking the liver.  Hmmmm….this gentleman was in the Navy and retired as a Master Chief (that’s about 30+ years), and I know many military guys have a high load of heavy metals in their bodies.  I suggested he ask his doctor to order a heavy metal urine challenge for him.  When I got home I went online and researched heavy metals and coffee. It turns out, coffee is made of chemical components that are really good at trapping heavy metals like mercury and lead….another.  Hmmmm….more work for that squirrel to churn information in my brain.  Poor squirrel. Everything I have read over the years about Tinnitus had led to the following causes:  1) Inflammation, 2) Heavy Metals, 3) A virus attacking the body (an autoimmune condition), 4) kidney issues, 5) liver issues.  Yes, not so exciting to know if you have Tinnitus.  However, I have helped people with this condition if they are patient and work with me on all the points listed above. If you didn’t know already I am the inventor of the Harmonic Egg (a sound and light egg-shaped chamber).  Learn more at http://www.harmonicegg.com.  During the first session for someone using the Harmonic Egg to resolve Tinnitus, we work on inflammation.  That’s the easiest one to rule out if it’s the cause of Tinnitus.  Truly, clients have done one session and the ringing was gone.  In the next sessions we work on settings to detox heavy metals, anti-viral settings, kidney and liver support settings and we coach the client on diet changes as well as other protocols we have documented at the centers.  It’s not a quick fix for most clients.  We recommend purchasing a 10 pack of sessions and doing those over a short period of time.  Weekly is best.  That’s a good amount of support for the body to reset / reboot and remind it that dis-ease is not NORMAL.  Our bodies are amazing machines and know how to heal on their own, but over the years we beat them up, eat crappy foods, don’t get enough rest, have traumas that come up (like the loss of a parent or a car accident), stress of all kinds…the body gets out of sync and forgets the NORMAL of its perfection.  The Harmonic Egg reboots the body and shifts it back to the perfection it was innately born with.  Am I making any sense? Again, not a quick fix and why would you expect it to be when you beat your body up for 5, 20, 40 years and then you want it to be fixed with a pill or a MAGIC EGG.   Okay, laughing is appropriate here. When seeing clients with Type 2 diabetes we use similar settings in the Harmonic Egg (anti-viral, nervous system reboot, liver support, heavy metal detox).  The settings used in the Harmonic Egg are carefully selected when you visit a center (all centers are trained to do a proper intake to find out what the client want to focus on, and then have them set their intention while in the Harmonic Egg). Check out my book, Unlocking the Ancient Secrets of Healing, for references: why sound and light therapies work for dis-ease, interviews from doctors, musicians and clients and more on the workings of the Harmonic Egg.  http://www.harmonicegg.com/store I hope I have helped some of you to engage that squirrel in your head to start thinking how you can help yourself find a better quality of life from things that ail you whether it be Tinnitus, Diabetes, PTSD, STRESS, sleep disorders or other.  I, myself, was able to rid my body of migraines, asthma, liver and thyroid issues, cystic acne, hair loss and more using sound and light. The pictures all belong to Rico Haase, Marco Zanone and Lena Herrmann / copyright Rico Haase, Marco Zanone and Lena Herrmann !!
Lena Herrmann, born January 28th 1994, is one of the strongest climbers in Germany. After having won lots of junior competitons she started focussing more on rockclimbing. In June 2016 she became the 1st woman to climb 8c+ in the Frankenjura (Germany) with the route “Battle Cat”. Jean-Marc had the chance to do an interview with her. Have fun reading :)
Also, check out the following movie about Lena climbing Battle Cat (8c+): https://vimeo.com/184677436
1. Wie alt warst du, als du mit Klettern angefangen hast und wie bist du dazu gekommen?
How old were you when you started climbing and how did you discover this sport?
I was only a little girl when I started my first tries in climbing. My dad took me and my sister into the woods where we played more in the dirt at the beginning than we were climbing. I love to remember those days and I still remember them as if it were yesterday. Later, I grew some interest in which my father did while I was playing and I developped an attraction for climbing!
2. Hast du irgendwelche Kletteridole?
Do you have any role models in climbing?
I am impressed by the climbers who pushed the limits of our sport. Those are of course Wolfgang Güllich but also Lynn Hill, the LeMenestrel brothers or Jerry Moffatt. I am also inspired by those climbers who live the spirit and the lifestyle of climbing and who seem very authentic by doing this like my trainer but also people like Daila Ojeda, Nina Caprez and Steve McClure.
3. Eine Freundin von mir wollte wissen, wie es für dich in einem durch Männer dominierten Sport ist? (Wobei ich denke, daß das Klettern inzwischen nicht mehr eine reine Männerdomäne darstellt…)
A friend of mine wanted to know how you feel in a sport dominated by men. (Personally, I believe that it is not the case anymore…)
The question is not easy. For me, climbing always meant hanging around with friends who were men by 90%. So it’s hard to compare as there are rarely women around. Being surrounded by women means stress to me anyway ;)
4. Gibt es für dich ein Ritual das du durchziehst wenn du ein schweres Projekt im Klettern hast oder bevor du einen Versuch in einem Projekt startest?
Is there any ritual that you perform when you have a difficult project in climbing or before you start a try in a project?
First of all, I walk away to be alone for a moment, to center myself and concentrate. Then I start breathing consciously. Without talking to anyone I put on my climbing shoes, which are perfectly clean, then I activate myself, do a buddy check, give a smile to my belaying partner and off it goes ;)
5. Was war bisher deine schönste Reise?
What was your favorite trip so far?
I can’t really give an answer to that question as I have the privilege to have lived already through lots of beautiful journeys. I had really good times in Céüse and Rodellar but actually I cannot decide.
6. Welche Musik hörst du gerne?
What is your favorite music?
I am a big fan of american oldschool gangster rap! :D I like the west coast hiphop most and “The Game” is the biggest swagman! :D Nonetheless, I love to listen to the piano sometimes or french Chanson.
7. Was ist dein Lieblingsessen?
What is your favorite food?
This question is as hard to answer as the travelling question. I love eating so it’s difficult to decide :P It’s better not to give me nuts and raisins because I can’t stop eating. I love everything which has to do with eggs and everything which tastes like curry. Plus, the HOTTER it is the more I like it :P
8. Das Hauptmoto von climbing.lu ist “it’s all in your mind !” … was hältst du davon, wie denkst du darüber in Bezug auf das Klettern?
The saying of climbing.lu is “it’s all in your mind !” … what do you think about it?
… siehe Frage 16.
… see question 16.
9. Wie lautet dein Lieblingszitat?
What is your favorite saying?
- Wer stellt der hält!
- Was du nicht willst, das man dir tu’, das füg’ auch keinem andern zu.
- Who crimps it, holds it!
- Do unto others as you would have others do unto you.
10. Hast du bereits ein nächstes Projekt im Felsklettern in Aussicht?
What is your next project in rock climbing?
Ja! Dieses Jahr kann ich mich schwer entscheiden wo ich meine Prioritäten setzte. Alle inspirierenden Touren kann ich ja nicht probieren.
I have problems this year to know where to put my priorities. Unfortunately, I cannot try all the routes which inspire me. But I do have some new projects.
11. Ich habe mal gelesen, daß du das Wettkampfklettern aufgegeben hast um dich auf das Felsklettern zu konzentrieren … wie sieht es in Zukunft mit dem Wettkampfklettern aus?
I read once that you gave up competition climbing to focus on rock climbing … What about competing in the near future?
My interest to focus myself completely on competing is very low at the moment. When I do it I want to do it consciously. I don’t follow this “take what comes around” spirit.
12. Was studierst du gerade?
What are you studying at the moment?
Ich studiere Sportökonomie an der Universität Bayreuth! Mix aus Sportwissenschaften, BWL und Rechtswissenschaft.
I’m studying sport economics at the university in Bayreuth! It’s a mix between science of sport, business economics and law.
13. Wie kriegst du dein Studium und deine Passion fürs Klettern unter einen Hut?
How do you deal with your studies and your passion for climbing?
First of all with discipline and good timing. Then, my university is supporting me which takes a lot of pressure from me. My studies are not an alibi although I will need longer to finish them because of climbing.
14. Wenn du einen Wunsch frei hättest, welcher wäre das?
If you had a wish which one would it be?
I would have lived in the boom of sportclimbing. I love it to listen to my coach when he tells about the times in Buoux, Verdon, Yosemite, Frankenjura etc. Apparently, climbing has changed a lot and I wish to have been part of it back then.
15. Was sind die beiden letzten Bücher die du gelesen hast?
Which are the last two books you read?
Da muß ich mal selber überlegen. Das “The Rap Yearbook” … und irgendwelche Auszüge über Sozialisation im Sport als Klausurvorbereitung ;)
Let me think. The Rap Yearbook … and some parts about socialisation in sport to prepare for my exams ;)
16. Gibt es irgendeine Message die du an die Kletterer da draußen weitergeben willst?
Is there any message you want to give to the climbers out there?
Ja!!!
Yes!!! Don’t use your brushes as decoration or place holder on your chalkbags, but clean your holds consciously, so they last longer for everyone! And when you leave the crag clean your tickmarks.
Furthermore, banana peel and used tape don’t belong into the forest.
PLUS, your mind ist he most important muscle in climbing, not the biceps, don’t you think so ;)
Ich bin total mit dir einverstanden Lena! Riesen Dank für dieses Interview und ich wünsche dir weiterhin alles Gute.
