Still Wakes the Deep is a horror video game developed by The Chinese Room and published by Secret Mode.

You are an offshore oil rig worker, Cameron "Caz" McLeary, fighting for your life through a vicious storm, perilous surroundings, and the dark, freezing North Sea waters.

All lines of communication have been severed. All exits are gone. All that remains is to face the unknowable horror that’s come aboard.

Still Wakes the Deep is a masterpiece.

As beautiful as it is compellingly disgusting, it transcends its obvious Thingspiration with incredible writing, vocal performances, and imagery. To call this game gripping is to do an injustice to the stranglehold it kept on me throughout its runtime. 

Set on a North Shore oil rig that inevitably drills its way into a gory nightmare, the dialog and delivery stand out from the immediate get-go. Its Scottish cast puts everything it has into an impressively authentic script. From the lingo to the banter to the unabashed foul language, there’s a naturalness to the script that videogames almost never attempt, let alone excel at.

Not to sound like an uncritical gamer with a Twitter checkmark, but it feels like, since it came out, major gaming outlets are looking for reasons to be unsatisfied with Still Wakes the Deep.

Which is to say, for a conglomerate of media centers that barely kick up a fuss about half-made games being delivered to the general population, "this game didn't need monsters" and "the monster encounters fall short" doesn't feel... honest?

I don’t like posting too much, since it makes me feel icky BUT. Before I forget this- It’s very important.

Still Wakes The Deep was nominated for the Golden Joystick Awards! TCR posted something on the Community page on Reddit (also on Steam) regarding this:

You can place two votes for the game in “Best Audio Design” and “Best Supporting Performer”, to vote, simply go to this link and click on the start voting button.

You don’t even have to use your E-Mail address to submit your votes. So it should make it very easy for people, incase one doesn’t feel like sharing that. I’m hoping for the best that TCR/Secret Mode get one of these awards, or both. It would be awesome either way. Since this game means a lot for the community and I think we can all agree that it deserves an award.

Now Fellas, please spread the word as best as you can! We’ll need every vote we can get. No one posted something about it on Tumblr (or maybe Im extremely blind, who knows), so I figured I’d make a post to inform anyone else who missed this.

Still Wakes the Deep is Amnesia: The Rig

Still Wakes the Deep set in December 1975, on an oil rig named Beira D in the North Sea. After fallen from the roof, Glaswegian electrician named Cameron "Caz" McLeary must navigate through the oil rig following a catastrophic event looking for a way to escape while surviving the harsh weather and evading the pursuit of a mysterious creature.

The Thing meet The Rig meet Deepwater Horizon meet Annihilation meet Lovecraftian horror

I love Caz's relationship between Brodie, they cared and banter each other.
