Upside, if things don’t get resolved nicely or if the writers mess up, the fandom has loads of amazing fanfic writers to do justice to the characters and the story and I’m excited to see how that goes.
#chenford#the rookie#tim bradford#lucy chen#honestly the fanfic writers in this fandom make me so envious in the best way#and maybe I’ll get up the nerve to attempt something too#but not a multi chap because no one has time for an 800000 word mess

I love the nuclear siren comment - that’s all I hear now too..
And the gif of Lucy shimmie-ing in that dress, with those cut outs and that necklace in her cleavage? Where the hell else is he supposed to look, I mean really? They both sway/shimmy around each other.
Spectacular comments from the fans - I love this so much! We are so entertaining! ♥️

the rookie fandom is probably one of THE worst fandoms i have ever stepped in!! cuz. like. (oh and if ur mad about what i have to say, idc <3 stay mad lol)
why the FUCK do yall always have something against john nolan?? the MAIN character?? and it’s always the stupidest reasons too. it’s always;
“i hate nolan cuz he dated lucy!” and nobody cares! it happened, get over it. it only lasted for TWO, maybe THREE episodes and you people act like it lasted a whole fucking season. bffr.
“why’s the show always about him. where’s chenford..” i don’t fucking remember this being ‘melissa & eric’s show’, it’s NOT. this NATHAN’S SHOW. HIS SHOW. HE MADE IT. HE’S THE MAIN CHARACTER FOR A REASON. EMPHASIS ON THE MAIN!!! (AND HE’S ALSO THE EXECUTIVE PRODUCER.) i did NOT see the show starting with lucy, OR tim. it started with NOLAN.
“lucy is the star of the show!” wrap it up, ur embarrassing urself atp.
AND DONT GET ME STARTED ON THE TRAUMA COMPARING.. “lucy has been through so much! 🥺🥺” / “tim has been through so much 🥺🥺” …ok. did we watch the same show. did lucy or tim get framed by their best friend? no. did lucy or tim get held at gunpoint/held hostage multiple times? no. did lucy or tim watch their captain die and tried to save her? no. did either of them get held hostage on their honeymoon? no! and and and!! did lucy or tim SAVE wesley when they were gonna leave him behind? SURE AS HELL NOT TIM OR LUCY. who was there for all of that? NOLAN.
if nathan fillion never stopped doing cayde-6 in destiny 2, the rookie would never exist. ur fav characters from the rookie would never exist. chenford would NOT fucking exist. NONE OF IT, would exist if nathan fillion was still working with bungie. so sit the fuck down and tell nathan (and alexi) “thank you for the rookie!”
#and don’t get me started on the hate for bailey#number one nolan defender btw :3#the rookie#nathan fillion#melissa oneil#eric winter#mekia cox#alyssa diaz#shawn ashmore#richard t jones#tru valentino#jenna dewan#lisseth chavez#john nolan#lucy chen#tim bradford#nyla harper#angela lopez#wesley evers#wade grey#aaron thorsen#bailey nune#celina juarez

Creepy, But Special
Requested Here!
Pairing: Tim Bradford x goth!fem!ME!reader
Summary: Tim sees a woman in a cemetery after dark and can't stop thinking about you. When he calls for the M.E. and you arrive, he gets a chance to find out more about you.
Warnings: spoilers for 5x22, r is an ME and performs an autopsy, mentions of past judgement and insults, fluff, Tim gets kinda flirty even while there's a dead body between them?
Word Count: 2.5k+ words
A/N: The request said shy reader, but she's pretty open with Tim so I didn't include it in the pairing dynamic. R is very professional with the other characters, though, so that could be considered shy, I think. And, as always, ignore the Chenford gif🤭
Masterlist | Tim Bradford Masterlist | Request Info/Fandom List
“Kojo, c’mon,” Tim urges as Kojo tugs the leash away from Tim.
Kojo has been taking his time on this walk, more of a stroll to sniff everything than a walk, but Tim is ready to get home. When Kojo returns to Tim’s side and begins trotting again, Tim rewards him with a whispered compliment: “There’s the best boy.”
As they near a cemetery, however, a cat meows inside the open gate, causing Kojo to stop again. Tim shakes his head but watches Kojo as his ears perk, and he looks into the narrow gate opening.
“No, Bazinga,” someone says from inside the fence. The cat meows again, and this time the voice - pretty voice, Tim’s mind corrects – laughs. “How are you going to do a séance if you can’t talk, Bazinga?”
Tim and Kojo step to the inside edge of the sidewalk for a better view. Tim should know better than to let his guard down here, but when he realized that the creepy cemetery cat had supervision, he needed to know more. Standing at the fence, he can see a gray blanket spread across a small clearing. You’re sitting on the blanket with a large book open across your lap. A black cat, Bazinga, presumably, roams around you before jumping onto your shoulder.
Tim can’t help but be intrigued by you. He can tell you're young in the dim light of a nearby streetlight. While he’s simultaneously drawn to you and put off by your odd choice about where you relax, Tim lets his logic win and snaps for Kojo to heel beside him. With one final glance at you, Tim leaves you in the dark but remembers your voice long after you ask your cat, “What do you think about the black cat stereotype and how well you fit into it?”
When Tim wakes the following morning, his first thought is you. Part of him wonders if he imagined you, a young woman dressed in black reading in a cemetery in the middle of the night, yet he can’t get you off his mind even as he rises and gets ready for work. Now that overtime has been approved, he has to focus on catching the masked individuals who attacked Aaron and Celina just hours after he saw you.
Once he hears Aaron and Celina’s statuses, it’s easier to forget you and your cat. When they find Roy Gracco and prepare to enter his house, Tim doesn’t even remember his previous cemetery-side walk.
Tim leads the alpha team into Gracco’s home, prepared for anything, but is surprised to find the house clear and cold.
“Drop the gun! Drop it!” he demands as he rounds a corner.
“I think he’s dead,” Nolan calls.
Tim approaches him slowly and confirms that Gracco is dead, 10-5-5.
“It’s a trap,” Nolan realizes aloud.
“Abort! Abort! Abort!” Tim yells. As he exits Gracco’s house, he radios, “Control, I need the bomb squad to the target house for a full sweep. Send the M.E. and TID out here, standing by for a priority search once the house is clear.”
“Yep, got it,” you reply to the police dispatcher.
Your work phone buzzes with a message containing the address where you’re needed. The van is prepped and ready to go, so you only grab your phone, keys, and seal-wrapped black coveralls. When you arrive at the house, dozens of police officers, crime scene investigators, and city officials are waiting.
“Sergeant Grey?” you ask as you approach him. “Has the house been cleared?”
“Almost. Bomb squad’s doing a final walk-through,” he answers. “The officers who found the body are inside and ready to assist you.”
“Dispatch said the air had been cranked down to delay decomp. Do you know if anyone touched the thermostat?”
“No. Sergeant Bradford made sure the house stayed in the same condition as how they found it.”
“Perfect.”
“All clear,” one of the bomb squad members calls as he exits. “Your people are free to enter.”
“Hold up,” Grey calls to TID. “Let the M.E. get what she needs first.”
“Thank you,” you call over your shoulder as you approach the front door.
“Hi, I’m Officer Chen,” an officer greets you as you enter. “Bradford, M.E.’s here.”
“Sergeant Bradford, I hear you preserved the scene and the body. Thanks,” you tell him as you set your bag down.
Tim doesn’t reply, too intrigued that you, a woman who hangs out in cemeteries with her black cat, is the M.E. That and your age, to be more precise.
“What’s the temperature in here?” you ask, looking up at him.
“Fifty-eight,” he answers quickly, shaking himself out of his thoughts and reminding himself not to stare.
“Fifty-eight,” you murmur as you scribble something on your paper. “Then I’m putting time of death between 1 and 2 a.m.”
“Before Aaron and Celina were ambushed,” Lucy says.
“How can you limit it to an hour?” Tim asks. Not because he’s overly interested in your method but because everything you say and do interests him. He wants to hear you talk again. To him, preferably.
“The air temperature and confinement slowed decomp but also affected the blood coagulation. Because of that, and knowing the average maintained temperature since death, I can calculate it with a bit more accuracy,” you explain.
Tim nods and looks at Lucy, who seems to know why he took a sudden interest in forensic science. He has a dozen more questions he’d like to ask you, very few of which are about the case, but you frighten Tim Bradford just enough that he falls silent to let you work.
“You’re not supposed to be here,” you say suddenly.
“Is everything okay?” Tim asks.
“Yeah, just this little guy.” You straighten and extend your hand to show Tim a moderately large spider. “There’s a web in that windowsill, he must have been confused by the temperature drop.”
You cup your hand as you walk toward the window and gently place the spider back on its web. Tim watches every little move you make, trying not to be convinced that you were in a cemetery and are still dressed in black merely because you’re creepy.
“So, based on positioning, lividity, and blood coagulation around the wound in his hand, I’m confident that my estimate of 1 to 2 a.m. today is accurate. More, I’d say that he was unconscious when both the bullets and the knife entered his body. There’s no sign of jerking or resisting, and the stiffness in his spine suggests that he’s been positioned like this for closer to a day.”
“A day?” Tim repeats. “How could he be in one position for nearly ten hours before being shot and stabbed?”
“Was he alive when he was stabbed?” Lucy inquires.
“Yes,” you answer her. “He didn’t react in any way to that pain and the lack of naturally dried blood around the wound, so he was likely already in a state of statis. His heart rate was likely low, the temperature was impeding the healing process, and, as I’m sure you know, bullet wounds don’t close on their own.”
“Then why lead us here?” Tim wonders.
“This is related to the cops that were attacked this morning?” you ask. “I heard about the riddle.”
“Is there anything else you can tell us?” Tim asks.
“I don’t think you’ll find much in this house other than him.”
“I agree.”
“If Gracco is a patsy,” Lucy interjects, “then we should be asking why him?”
“He’s a felon with a history at Mid-Wilshire,” Grey answers as he walks in.
“Sure, but there are hundreds of guys like that. So, why Gracco? Did they pull his name out of a database or is there some kind of connection?”
“You think it’s personal?” Tim asks.
“Look, if I was gonna go to the extreme of targeting police officers, why not take out some of my enemies along the way?”
“That’s gotta count as a goth point,” you murmur.
“Costs us nothing to run with that,” Grey points out. “Get back to the station, check Gracco’s known associates, family, coworkers, anyone he did time with that might hold a grudge. Run them against people that we arrested. And say a prayer while you’re at it.”
“Actually, Grey, can I escort the M.E.?” Tim asks.
You look up from your spot on the floor, and Tim looks away quickly because he suddenly thinks that in that position, you look like a cat.
“Do that,” Grey agrees. “We don’t know what we’re dealing with. Chen, Nolan and Harper are at the station and ready to assist you.”
“Yes, sir,” Lucy replies as she exits.
“Why do I need an escort?” you ask once you’re alone with Tim.
“Because we don’t know what we’re up against and I don’t want to find out the hard way that we’re closer than we think,” he answers.
You nod as you stand, then remind Tim that you have to prepare the body to take back to the morgue. He nods and steps aside, hands clasped, happy to watch you.
“Got it,” Tim says into his phone. “Pine’s got Metro mobilized; do you need me to come back?”
You pull your gloves on as Tim ends his call. He steps toward you and says, “I’m clear to stay with you.”
“Why?” you ask.
“All of our bases are covered. So, if you find something, we need to know.”
You shrug as you concede. It’s not that you don’t want Tim with you; you are confused about why a decorated Metro Sergeant would want to keep you company while you perform an autopsy.
“If you want a mask or anything, they’re in the black case behind you,” you tell him.
“Of course it’s black,” Tim muses.
“Meaning?” you inquire as you mark your incision points.
When you look toward him, Tim gestures to your outfit. You certainly don’t dress like other medical examiners. Or act like them, for that matter.
“What do you have against black?” you tease. “Or are you just jealous of the Converse?”
Tim smiles as he tips his head and replies, “I would rock some studded black Converse, right?”
“Totally. I’ll hook you up with my shoe guy. He might want to see you in the heeled version first, though.”
“So, why’d you become a medical examiner?” Tim asks as you begin the first cut in Gracco’s chest.
“What do you think?”
“Love for science?” Tim guesses.
You lift the scalpel and narrow your eyes at Tim. “Most people just assume I’d like to dig around in dead people.”
“Why? Because you wear black and pick up spiders?”
“Amongst other things.”
“What other things?”
You shake your head and argue, “You have to tell me something about you first.”
“I like the Dodgers.”
“Wow,” you drawl. “Mark me as shocked and surprised.”
“I’m a cop, there isn’t much time to do things worth telling.”
“Fine, I’ll go first but you better have something when I’m done.”
“Yeah, of course. Just, one more thing. How old are you?”
“Twenty-seven. Don’t you dare say oh, you look older, or wow, you must be smart, I really can’t take hearing that again.”
“I didn’t think you must be smart. You clearly are,” Tim replies.
“Good answer. You still want to know about me?”
Tim nods, and you tip your chin down to continue the autopsy as you speak.
“So, you can tell that I like black and spiders… I feel most alive in the fall, Halloween is my favorite day of the year. And cats! They’re much better than spiders because you can watch horror movies and Beetlejuice with them, and birds bring out their violent sides. But cats will also read witch books with you and listen to music, hang out in cemeteries. All the stuff that gets you labeled a ‘creepy weirdo’ is more fun with a cat.”
“Has someone called you a creepy weirdo?” Tim questions.
“More times than I can count. But I have another list that’s longer.”
“A list of what?”
“The coolest tattoos I’ve ever seen.”
Tim hesitates before he asks, “On dead people?”
“Some,” you admit honestly. “Most of them are on live people, though. They’re not as cool when the skin underneath isn’t moving or filled with blood.”
“Interesting.”
“Is this where you call me a creepy weirdo?” Tim shakes his head, and you add, “I guess I’ve just always felt drawn to stuff like that, and it makes me happy, so why should I care what people say about that?”
Tim leans against a table across the morgue from you as you continue to work. He asks a few questions as you work, but the autopsy is as simple as expected. Gracco was killed. There’s no additional evidence about who killed him or why, and his body is relatively clean and well-preserved.
“Sorry I couldn’t be more help,” you tell Tim as you discard your gloves. “If it was a full moon I may have been more help.”
“Because you like full moons, I assume.”
“It was actually a weak werewolf joke, but yes, I do.”
“Does Bazinga?”
You freeze beside Tim before you look up at him to ask, “How do you know my cat’s name?”
“You said it,” Tim answers.
“No, I didn’t.”
“Not today, uh… I saw you in a cemetery a few nights ago.”
“I knew there was someone out there! Bazinga thought it was a ghost.”
Tim nods, unsure of how to keep the conversation going. You both want to keep talking, but there’s something Tim can’t ask, and you aren’t sure you can answer. So, you trace the shape of a crescent moon on your wrist to encourage yourself.
“Will you go out with me?” you ask quickly.
Tim opens his mouth to answer, but you add, “You don’t have to! If I’m misreading this or you’re just being nice and really do think I’m crazy, I understand.”
“I’d love to,” Tim answers when you fall quiet. “Maybe Kojo and I could join your next cemetery picnic.”
“You don’t think that’s creepy?”
“Really creepy,” Tim answers dramatically. “But you like it, so I’d like to see why.”
“What’s your shoe size? I’ll bring you some black Converse.”
“With studs?”
“Wouldn’t you be the stud?”
Tim laughs as he follows you into your office, but his phone rings with an update from Sergeant Grey and he quickly exchanges numbers with you before he leaves. Later, you remember that you never asked who Kojo was, and the picture Tim texts in return to your question makes you smile in your lonely office.
“How nervous are you?” you ask as Tim and Kojo meet you outside the cemetery.
“Probably not as much as I should be,” Tim answers with a smile. “Just don’t tell me we’re eating with someone, uh, someone in there.”
“No, of course not.” You open the gate and joke, “We’ll ease into that.”
“Where’s Bazinga?”
“Bazinga is a cat. In the picnic basket.”
You help Tim spread your favorite blanket on the grass and join him and Kojo as you set the food out. Tim watches you and realizes you’ve never been creepy, scary, or a weirdo. You’re special and if this spot beside you has been left open for him by people underestimating or judging you, he’ll make sure you know how special you are.

Hello my wonderful fandom :) I CANNOT believe we are at the finale already. This season went by in the blink of an eye. I was VERY excited for this finale and what it would bring. They don't have a ton of moments. But the ones they do the writers made count. My goodness I was happy and hopeful after this episode ended. Hard to believe we won't see our babies on screen till 2025. *grumble*
D sent me something about that actually (thank you bestie) Here it be. A.H. saying he's pretty sure all networks are doing this mid season 18 ep start. One of the reasons being the Election coming up. They want to protect shows and their ratings from the debates, coverage etc. And those usually happen on Tuesday nights. Which is actually really intuitive foresight from ABC. So to protect our ratings and show I get it. Especially if we wanna lock down a S8. I don't love it but I get it. Anyways lets get to it shall we? My last "mini" thoughts of the season.
6x10 Escape Plan
Always makes me nervous for Lucy going UC but still amazing to watch her in her element. Even if it makes my stomach tie in knots. Now maybe this is just me but Lucy seemed EXTRA uneasy on this OP. This is pure speculation on my part. But could be lending a little more credence to this not being the path for her? Just the feeling I got while watching her in these moments with with the kids in this one and the sneaking around.
I will say I do love seeing Lucy with the kids. Gives us a glimpse into her as a mama. I'm liking what I am seeing. Can't help but have that thought. I really can't. Chenford has taken over my brain and I'm very ok with it. Smitty's text to Lucy did crack me up. 'Red incoming.' Gotta love Smitty. Lucy is giving me a damn heart attack being undercover though.
The panic in her soul is so evident the minute she sees Monica is approaching. The way she guides the kids out of the room. Then the sheer terror when the kids wanna take a shorter exit. She has to pivot and redirect them quickly. I feel like the pressure of this specific UC mission was getting to her. I really do. It was felt in all her movements and body language through out these scenes IMO. I could be wrong but it was just a gut feeling I got watching her.
I think her expression in this scene after Monica departs is everything. Melissa be crushing it out here. Almost like she has to take a deep breath. Calm her racing heart down before unrooting herself from that spot to investigate further. I feel like her look of unease and panic here brings home the point I've been making.
Her questioning if doing UC is worth this stress? Worth the constant worry? Like I said back in my 5x20 review. Just because you're good at something doesn't mean it's meant to be your destiny. i.e. Lucy being a permanent U.C. Pretty sure her cover is blown after she runs right into him but she got the info she needed. At the expense of my own anxiety and worry though ha
The look in this scene oh my lord. How can they have so much chemistry with just one look? Melissa and Eric are a damn treasure to this fandom. To this amazing ship. Tim saying 'It's good to have you.' That loaded look between them. *screams into a pillow.*
You know that man is happier now that she's folded into this OP. His eyes were on her from the moment she stepped on scene. Be more in love with her Tim please. Then sharing a look with Angela. I’m dying. Angela is us we are Angela. She is the fandom in this moment watching this exchange. *sigh* So good.
Someone please tell me how do they look so amazing just standing next to one another? It's unreal how they can exude SO much chemistry just standing next to one another. Forever floored by the amount of physical chemistry these two have without even touching. It blows my mind in the best way.
Also I always enjoy me some Tim in T.O. mode it's sexy af. It revs my engine to watch him back in leadership mode. Not gonna lie. So very confident and sure of himself. Gah makes me need to cross my legs watching him in action LOL Sorry (sorta)Feral Caitlin made a return there haha But I do love seeing it. Like he’s getting his mojo back professionally. It’s nice to see. Does my heart good to watch it.
Oh my word they haven’t really been alone to talk (not counting the hug last ep) since 6x06. I’m so happy. I was legit buzzing watching this. My heart Tim telling her he took her advice and went to therapy. Yessss been waiting for this to unfold. Was hoping when they got a moment alone he would tell her about it. Look at him taking the first opportunity they have solo to tell her this. The growth of this man is incredible to see. I'm so proud of him it's insane. He takes a beat and makes the best of their time together. Breaking the uncomfortable ice with it. *happy sigh*.
I'm so proud of him. I can't state this enough. It is NOT easy to have this convo let alone be the one to start it. Another way to see he's grown. Tim is tackling the conversation. Being the one to broach it. Not Lucy dragging it out of him. I love her telling him that's not normal what happened for him. Definitely hasn't been my experience haha I do love her following up her little joke with being serious. Wanting to encourage him to keep going. I love this. Doesn’t want him to think one bad experience will tar the entire profession.
Tim nodding with a smile asking her if she wants to know the irony of it all? Lucy of course does. Tim continues on that she was a good therapist. The sessions they helped him. Damnit Blair.... I do adore the way Lucy is looking at him while he speaks about this. That angry look she started with has softened quite a bit. Truly hope he continues in S7 and we get to hear about it. God I would love to see sessions. Some of my all time fav Beckett scenes in Castle's S4 was getting to see her sessions with her therapist. It's on my wish list. *fingers crossed.*
His continued sharing with Lucy makes my heart so happy it might implode. Letting Lucy know therapy despite Blair being dirty has been good for him. She unearthed things he wasn't even aware of. I felt the same way too after a couple weeks. I felt more regulated tbh. I had massive sleeping problems from age 15 to when I decided to go to therapy in my 30's. After a couple sessions my sleeping issue's were gone for most part. I had been carrying my problems for so long. Like a pressure cooker with no release valve. So with no outlet they followed me into my unconscious and manifested into anxiety attacks. Couple weeks of sessions and my sleep issues all but disappeared.
Therapy when you truly lean into it can do wonderful things. i.e. Tim opening up to Lucy like this. Also look how SOFT Lucy looks with him as he bares his soul to her. I would be remiss if I didn't go in depth on this. The look of pride and love splayed all over her face is everything. Also reverence and love as well. This episode has a lot of loaded looks and I ate them all up. We started this scene with her face hard and holding a lot anger still. Then Tim melts it with his genuine vulnerability and sharing of what going to get help has done for him. Not only that but giving her props for the original advice in the first place. I'm beaming with delight.
We move onto Tim is being anxious his sessions are going be heard for evidence cause of the FBI investigation. Ugh. This kicks Lucy's brain into gear about that. Asking if he said anything revealing about her? His reply had me rolling. I adore him making a joke like this. Letting her know he mentioned ‘Freak in the sheets.' about her. I’m dying. I have no doubt there is some truth to that for them both LOL Look at our boy making jokes and getting her to laugh. God it was so so nice to see her laugh again. He earns a smile out of her too. The first time he's been the cause of that since her gifted her that KIA Radio in 6x05. I'm floating. They're both smiling by end of this scene. *sigh* We needed this.
We got to see some BAMF Lucy in this moment. Something that just like Tim in confident T.O. Mode has been missing since 6x06. I love her being like take this guy my man is in trouble. Getting him dropped off and instantly taking off after Tim. Who is also trying to pull off some bad assery tbh. A little recklessly but that's why Lucy is coming after him.
She see's his play and wants to be there to back it. Literally waste's no time in pursuit of him. Peels right out of that damn laundromat after him. Tim's play going south VERY quickly when this guy catches on to him in the bed of the truck. Sends his gun flying and my heart racing.
Adore the worried wifey look as she watches from the car. It's pouring out of her in that brief shot. Well done Melissa. Just like Eric she knows how to convey so very much with just a look. Lucy knows Tim is in trouble. That she can't just sit there in pursuit of the vehicle without helping him.
Especially after she watches him get pulled into the cab. Knowing that he is currently at a tactical disadvantage. No way in hell she is leaving him to fight this guy off alone. Telling Lopez to take the wheel as she makes her way out to help him.
Lopez's face when she makes the jump is shocked and amazed. Lucy continuing her BAMF streak on this OP. I loved the surprised look on Tim's face when she first jumps on the truck. Like he can't believe she just risked her life to come help him out. He can't stay in the feeling long as she takes the guy out for them. But it needed to be noted his utter surprise she was there to have his back. Risked her life to do so. Such a bad ass battle couple. Back to back finales we get to watch them be poetry in motion in the field with a battle.
Oh my lord what an epic scene to watch. Lucy jumping onto that moving truck bed to save her man. They take him down together. Their work dynamic easily coming back into play here. They don't miss a beat in this moment. Working as harmoniously as they always have in the past together in the field. I love the looks shared once they've stopped the truck.
Especially Tim's. He is so damn impressed with her. Always finds a way to blow him away with the bad ass she's become. Man is falling in love all over again. It shows all over the two looks he gives her in this scene. First one is his falling back in love again. I mean he already was but think sunk him deeper. Second one is more of just being in awe of her. The pride he feels watching the amazing cop she's developed into. I love these two so much.
Let me start with how happy it makes my heart that Tim smiles when she walks up to him. Despite all the hurt just the sight of her elicits a smile out of him automatically. His walking sunshine. Love of his damn life. She truly is his happy place in human form. Lucy making a crack about him taking a half day. Their banter still simmering beneath the surface. It's a little subdued in this moment but it's alive and well with Tim's reply. He is ever the gentlemen letting her go first.
His elevator version of holding the door for her. That chivalry never dying with him. It's the little things. Can't ignore how Lucy is looking at this man the entire scene. From start to finish. With such reverence and love. Still so in love with this man standing in front of her. Lucy can't help it. She is a moth to a flame with him. Especially with Tim thanking her for saving his life. Let's delve into that a little shall we? Tim Bradford is saying he didn't have it. Admitting fault he would've lost that battle without her.
Saying not only did he not have it but Lucy did. That he wouldn't be standing here without her. Giving her the kudos and all the praise for saving his life. Far cry from 1x01 and his future reaction to that moment in S5. This is a different Tim we see standing before us everyone. The amount of growth in this moment is immense. Because not only did she save his life but she saved him in a deeper sense. Feels like it's truly hitting him like a freight train the impact she's had on his life. I think there is double meaning to his words above. It's what leads him into this next section below.
The loving expression on Lucy's face when she replies ' You're Welcome.' That look of I'm still in love with you, I would do anything for you despite the hurt, and her realizing the deeper meaning of Tim thanking her. The growth she is currently seeing in him is prompting this soft/warm look and even softer reply. It's what encourages Tim to say his next portion. You can see him psyching himself up before he turns around to apologize. To own what he's done to them. To her.
Tim starts his apology by telling her he knows what he’s done (thank you lord for this) That he knows he ruined everything. You sure did babe...but you’re gonna earn it all back I know it. Lucy has the most loving and forgiving nature. The biggest heart. Also we can see there is still a tinge of anger to her expression at first above. So that journey will not be an easy one for Tim. Nor should it be. He has a lot to make up for. But my god will it be worth it in the end. I truly believe that. I'm going to be crying river's when we get there.
Look at how he has grown. Immediately spilling his guts emotionally to her twice in one episode. Not once but TWICE. Hell three times really. With saying she saved him and admitting fault to what he's done. I can't get over this. He had two really hard conversations with her in this episode. Swallowing that pride of his he's trying to hard to overcome. Doing this in order to communicate better with her. To show her he's putting in the time and the effort. To let her know he knows he messed up and is owning that. Something Tim wouldn't have done before. At least not easily. These are great strides for him. I couldn't be prouder of where they are ending the season for him. Imma need more therapy though in S7 you hear me writers?
Tim thanking Lucy for extending him the kindness she has shown him. *my damn heart.* That he can never explain how much he appreciates it. That she could've easily turned on him and he would've understood. But that's not Lucy. We all know that's not who she is. Or ever will be. It's that forgiving nature of her's that is one of the many reasons Tim is so damn gone for her. I think there is once again a double meaning to his words. To me Tim is saying this is for far more than just post break up. It's for their entire relationship. Together/apart and especially when they were not 1-4. The kindness and the empathy she's aways shown him. Even at his worst.
Like I said earlier it's all hitting him hard. The place she held in his life for so long and the impact she's had on him. Imma cry. A giant epiphany moment for Tim I think. Maybe starting to slowly understand the unconditional love she has for him. This scene made me tear up. That anger that is still present melts away a little more for Lucy. If she continues to see Tim work on himself. He shows her his continued growth. No reason she wouldn't take this man back when he's put in the work to re-earn that place in her life. Tim saying he's gonna spend rest of his life repaying her back for said kindness. *screams into the void.* In whatever small doses she allows of course.
Respecting her boundaries and hoping she will allow him to do so. It's the sweetest most sincere part of his apology. The way she looks at him as he departs. *heart clutch* You can see he's stunned her into silence. But also Lucy can see the growth in him and it’s written all over her face. This is a fantastic way to end the season for them. It wouldn’t be right to get back together right now or even just a 'we almost died' hook up. (Wonderful fic's out there for that just recently BTW.) Just wouldn’t. As much as my shipper soul LONGS for them to be back together. Legit longs so much it hurts. This was a good way to end them for the season. With some hope, some growth and a path forward leading us to S7.
Some Final thoughts below. With a Chenford hug to this lovely fandom of ours.
First off I want to thank you all for doing this not so mini review journey with me. I was nervous to do them. Even after doing 9 plus months of them with 1-5. This was different. It was first impressions. Hope you all enjoyed them. I'm more than happy to do this next season too. First impression thoughts for S7 as well if you are all interested. Let's move onto some final thoughts I'm having. You know months could pass by when we get to 7x01 in their timeline. I’m hoping he’s in therapy during this duration. Ready to prove he wants to earn her trust back. To earn her back. I don't think for one second that moment in the elevator is the last deep conversation they're going to have before we get a reconciliation. Tim has her love. Always has. Always will.
Lucy's decisions and responses in 6x10 show that. No matter what she loves this man. What he needs to gain back is her trust. To prove over and over again. He's there to stay. To show her through kind acts. To rebuild his rapport with her. I’m excited for that journey cause when we get there. *phew* God the fandom is gonna implode with happiness. It’ll be well earned. Their relationship is going to be even better with the growth Tim has done. (Hoping for some more for Lucy as well and getting the support she needs/deserves)We saw massive results in this episode alone. Can you imagine how it’ll be when they’re back together? *chefs kiss* it’ll make all the hurt and pain so worth it.
Getting emotional writing about this. This ship has a stranglehold on my emotions and I’m ok with it. Eric and Melissa love our passion for this couple. So I won’t be ashamed for the affect it has on me. I’m excited for s7. It’ll be a long hiatus. But we will get through it together. I will probably wait till mid July to do my thoughts fully fleshed out for S6. Think we all need time for finale to settle. For us too as well. I'm most definitely not ready to re-dive into everything just yet. Especially 6x05/6x06. But I'm hoping couple month hiatus for me will help with tackling that. Then we can start that journey for us all to go on with my deeper analysis.
As always thank you all for the likes, comments and reblogs. For being interested in my thoughts at all. It means the world you have no idea. Love this fandom, love this show and this incredible ship we are so fortunate to have. So once again thank you all for being on this journey of S6 with me. Like said earlier I’ll get started in my fleshed out S6 reviews come mid July. :)

Monica cleaned up a mess for Blair. Manipulated her by helping her most Monica thing I've ever heard. Glad to finally have answers to that. I knew it felt like manipulation. She had too much of a conscience to be dead inside and doing it for money. Sucks cause she is very good at her job. That scene with Aaron was a mic drop moment for him. So proud of how far he came this season as well.
Friggin Nolan never listens. And get shot for not listening. In the ass. Because he's a pain in one. Was apropos. Also he's right back to being a dumb putz to me. It was short lived john you made it half an episode before falling out of my good graces LOL
Once again music amazing for their final scenes whoever handled that this season crushed it. Bringing out all my emotions.
See you all later this summer for my in-depth ones. Till then be kind and rally around each other. Gonna be a long hiatus.

Oh if they hate that article with the buddie photo then they really are gonna hate that this also dropped today
https://x.com/TellTaleTV_/status/1811007561493021120
An article showing 13 tv partners with undeniable chemistry. Now correct me if I’m wrong but, I see Buck and Eddie on the list…… but no sign of Tommy 👀👀😂😂 and not only are buddie on the list, they use a photo of them on the cover photo along with a couple others. The other fun thing about this list? Some of the pairs on it are known as some of the arguably best partners turned romantic partners in tv history amongst them. And Kirk and Spock are also listed. They were the literal OG fandom shipping pair that started it all.
What a fucking list to be in the middle of. Mulder and Scully, Kirk and Spock. The law and order ones. Chenford, OA and Maggie, Tandy and Tyrone. Like dude, those are SOLID partners on television. Great list.

If you don't love me at me worst, you don't deserve me at my best and this is how I feel with the fandom in their views of Tim right now or chenford. 😇
This is insane because the show said to us with words, we don't have to guess. He feel awful about himself, the breakup, he think lucy deserve better, he is mad at himself and he want to get better yet if you only read some tweets or posts you'd think he walk away from Lucy because he was tired of playing the perfect couple and wanted to hit the club and have some fun. He didn't cheat or betray her.. I know some peoples hate him now but it made me love him even more tbh. He is so real. I love good complex characters and when things aren't easy otherwise it's boring. Nolan is right here if fans want things easy and perfect. Yet they hate him because he is boring so ?? I don't care about Nolan but just saying.
I’m truly surprised at how fast some people seem to have given up on Chenford because of the breakup. I’m actually interested in seeing these characters grow and evolve and try to deal with their issues. And we know that Tim has a lot of trauma, from his past, and I always wanted them to really dig deep into it.
And to see a grown man actually seeking help, and realizing that he needs some kind of therapy is SO important. I want to see that. Rather than the “always and perfect and easy” stuff!
Of course, it doesn’t change the fact that it hurts to see both Lucy and Tim like that, but that’s realistic, and it makes you want to root for them (both individually and as a couple) even more in my opinion.
We do need more complex characters on tv, especially ones that are actually trying to work on themselves for the better.

i like how the entire The Rookie fandom have collectively decided the best part of the show is Chenford… i’ve seen a total of like four posts that weren’t about them

_This might not be popular, but I really think that something shifted in their dynamics in late S5 (and I genuinely believe it was also always partially missing) and I think the break-up really helped to dig into this problem._
Please could you write more about this? What do you think has changed between them? When did this start and why?
Hello Nonnie!
So... Yeah. It's quite a hard topic for me, because I really don't like being the one to stand out in a cheering and positive crowd that this fandom has been. But, I will do my best to explain what I mean, too.
Disclaimer is that I binged The Rookie until 6x04 and I really believe that when you binge things you might miss the details, that with this pairing has always been important. In short: disclaimer is that I might be wrong.
I also need to say that my views come from a place of being an anxious person that has often been dismissed regarding her feelings and even belittled.
With all that in mind, let me try to explain my mindset a bit. Some of the parts I have already explained in this post. So if you've read it it might be kind of repetitive.
While I've loved Chenford since 3x12 and Green Dress, I've always found it disturbing how Tim approaches Lucy in her low moments. It's not that he approaches it bad. I just honestly think that his approach has always been quite bantery (17st place) and definitely more action than words style. There is nothing bad with that, I just don't truly believe this is good for anxious Lucy. I really think that Jackson was always the best kind support for her. I think the core thing for me was that Jackson always acknowledged her feelings and tried to be supportive, before providing solution. For me the part of "acknowledging her feelings" is the part that I haven't seen that much in Tim.
I think I noticed it hard in the documentary 5x18, when it almost felt like Lucy was in denial about being so optimistic about their relationship, while Tim was grumpy and protective over himself and his image. I think this is where I saw this shift (not sure if it was also the shift in the characters), that maybe Tim might have some serious doubts about their relationship.
For me, this is this surface level relationship problem that dr London called him out for. It is that he does not know how to be together, how to be deep in a relationship. He tried that once and look where it got him (it was not his fault by any means).
For me, it carried in the late S5 and early S6 so much so that it led to their break-up. That Tim chose to put up some walls instead of finding resolution. And, again, it's not that I blame him for that. Hell, with kind of childhood and past that he has it is incredibly in character. But he is also a grown up man that needs to take responsibility of his life and people around him. That's why 6x10 made me so excited: the dynamics are a-changing. He is starting to tear down his walls brick by brick and learn what does being together actually means.
Because I feel that as anxious as Lucy sometimes the "being together" is what she understands at her core. Hence the hug, the jump and all the big things she's been doing for him (after the break-up and before too, of course). Of course, she is not crystal (Nyla is, lol! sorry for the dad joke). She jumped on this train very quick and very enthusiastically and they never really had a real convo about their feelings.
I think it really blew up with Ray, when Tim just ghosted Lucy and kept her in the dark for so many hours. It's not a good communication, let's say straight forward it is just a really encyclopedic example of bad communication. He gets wrapped up in his own world and cannot quite wrap his mind about what Lucy needs. I hope that will get changed, because, well Tim was not a good partner then.
Just to sum this all up. I've already started to see some progress with Tim's character and I really really hope they keep on showing this in S7. This is my biggest hope for S7, actually.
I really, really hoped I answered your question. Y'all! Tell me if I'm wrong, please!!!

Hi! I’m new to this fandom, just finished binge watching all 5 seasons. Who do you think had feelings first - Tim or Lucy? Also who realized it first? I always felt that Tim realized it first when Lucy was taken by Caleb, but then he was ready to marry Ashley so idk 🤪 Would love to know your thoughts 😊
Hi anon!
I feel like a massive jerk for sitting on this, and taking so long to welcome you to the fandom!
But also... it's kind of your fault for asking such an impossible question to answer simply because canon is riddled with examples of things like you mentioned above and trying to figure out what they were thinking in seasons 4 and 5 feels like this (to me):
It's worth mentioning that there are amazingly thoughtful people in this fandom that have done an incredible job of filling in the blanks; @theflyindutchwoman and @makeitastrength come to mind off the top of my head, but I know there are many, many others as well (feel free to drop any faves in the comments) .
Unfortunately, I have a brain that really struggles to let go of inconsistencies, which has resulted in a wildly volatile love-hate relationship with this show for me.
I was hoping if I held on to the ask, I'd be able to give you a thoughtful answer, and I'm not sure that this is it, but for what's it worth, I'll just share where my head was at some key points, beginning with the early days...
Early Chenford Era (S1-3x07):
My headcanon here has always been that there was some level of a mutual attraction, first physical and then emotional. Not anything either would act on, but a level of chemistry between them nonetheless.
As far as awareness, I'd score Tim as somewhere between oblivious and so highly compartmentalized that even if it had popped into his head on occassion, he never gave it any actual space to breathe or grow.
For Lucy, I think she was generally somewhere between mostly compartmentalized but also aware of the fact that he's hot and it's fun to push his buttons because he's such a hardass. So possibly a bit of awareness of the attraction, but zero intention to do anything more than have a little fun with it in an attempt to soften him up a bit. And zero belief or desire that it would be anything more than that.
GIF Credit: @thesweetnessandthesarcasm
There's definitely an awareness of the fact that aren't afraid to test each other's limits -- sometimes it's intense and other times it's fun and flirty, but either way, it starts to build some delicious tension.
But in moments of high stress or vulnerability, we got glimpses of just how much their emotional connection was growing, whether they were willing to admit it or not.
Needless to say, this was my favorite Chenford era. I think it was beautifully executed (even if it was all by accident 😂). I think the development was organic and believable and what the very best slow burns are made of.
Thanks for the thoughtful and kind ask, anon! If this is at all interesting to you, feel free to drop me another ask and I will continue in a separate post with my thoughts on the infamous feelings prank and what followed.
Welcome to the fandom!

I love Chenford fandom so much!
We're holding fingers crossed and making assumptions, what would be the best story for Tim and Lucy, and wishing our hopes come true, while the whole season six is already written and almost filmed. That makes me feel strange 😀
Anyway:
1) I love them together.
2) I don't like (not to say hate) the whole UC plot.
3) I'm patiently waiting for this UC story to end. Actually, I'm a little bit tired of chewing this problem from episode to episode (too much for me, just like Elijah Stone story).
4) I'd like to see something new about them - Tim's career in Metro, Lucy's shining in patrol (that was the reason I liked The rookie - not detective stories, but daily police routine), Tim meeting Lucy's family (oh, just try to confuse him with your attitude to police, Mrs Chen!), them helping to babysit Angela's and Nyla's babies, Tim helping James in his community center (oh, don't forget to bring your sarcasm with you, Timothy)...
P. S. If you like the UC plot - nothing personal 😀

How it all Started ✨
I literally can’t imagine or remember my life before I started watching the rookie. To think I HATED bradford at the very start and now they are both my everything.
She is my sun and I revolve around her. Nothing is dark when they are bright. I’m trying to stay really hopeful that s6 writing gets better 🥲 because I love them so so much. Rewatching the rookie so much that I can quote without looking. That I know which characters said what line in what episode. Rewatching edits to relive the best moments and sharing joy with others in the fandom.
chenford my beloved - stay happy and bright. I’m not going to share my critiques of s6 quite yet. Gonna trust the process so hard 🫡 March 26th baby

my take on this episode
so i opened the tag just briefly but it was enough and tbh i expected the negativity from the fandom, but i have my own input which might help put things in perspective.
first and foremost, remember, this is NOT the chenford show. I mean we might be watching mainly for them, but the rookie is an "everyone's important show" and we already had a couple episodes heavily focused on tim and lucy getting together so it would be too much to also devote an entire scene to every one of the characters finding out and making it a big deal. that's something for fanfics to cover. tim asking only lucy if she's okay in front of everyone and angela's knowing look was a very tasteful and subtle way to cover it in my opinion. (i too expected a reveal scene, but i understand why they didn't include it. the show and the other characters' lives don't revolve around tim and lucy and honestly? it's better that way, cause it's in sync with how they came to be together—subtly and quietly between pages).
second, it's been a while since we had any of these other golden interactions between the other characters. I mean, grey hazing nolan? tim calling someone "boot"? smitty shenanigans? wesley and angela back at it being a badass lawyer and detective together? also, celina finally getting some progress and development as a rookie and also establishing a dynamic between her and grey? lucy having to clean smitty's trailer being a callback to when jackson went to live with him and couldn't stand it? all these beautiful aspects of the show also need time and space to play out.
i am a hardcore chenford shipper, but we should all be able to take a step back from our shipping minds now and then and appreciate other elements of a show as well, and not base our entire judgement of an episode on how many chenford interactions there were.
also I'm pretty sure there are going to be many more delectable chenford scenes, we just have to wait and trust the narrative process, because if anything, it's proven that the writers know what we want and they have done their best to satisfy us without also making the show a fan service.
#the rookie#the rookie spoilers#chenford#this post is meant to help put a positive perspective on things#it's okay to not like some stuff but perhaps you simply need to look at it from another point of view
