Not unlike daylight's earliest hours seeping through shut curtains, the haziness--the easiness--you offer him is persistent.

Louis has grown accustomed to the feeling, to the consistent warmth of your friendship, but every once in awhile the sentimentality of it all digs at him.

"This is..." You trail off, legs crossed beneath you and television remote still loosely held between your fingers. "Complex."

Louis's focus flits between you and the screen you're intently staring at. The two of you hadn't set out to watch a documentary on some nature channel, but this is far from the first time you've gotten distracted by some default program while attempting to put on a movie. "Very."

His sarcasm is enough to break the spell. You turn your head, frowning, "Don't make fun of me."

The documentary cuts to a well lit, sparsely wooded forest. The camera focuses on a deer patiently grazing on the surrounding foliage.

"I’d never," he mumbles, suppressing a smile in an attempt at seeming as serious as he needs to be for the joke to work.

You let out a sound that's too gentle to be a laugh before straightening your shoulders and returning your attention to the television screen. There's something ironically pointed about the way the peaceful background melody fades into something more sinister. Looming Danger.

The deer, alerted by some sixth sense, stiffens, its body stretching to its full, insignificant height. The camera zooms in, focusing on the deer's wide eyes and unmenacing features. "That kind of reminds me of you."

This time, your laugh is full, sharpened by a partial scoff that's as amused as it is offended. "That's the weirdest thing you've ever said to me."

The comment is almost enough to ease him. The camera pans out, allowing the audience to see the other surrounding deer. "Maybe the deer from that one animated movie."

You're quiet for a moment, thinking through the implication of the words before turning your head towards him again. "You mean Bambi?"

He had been much too old to be interested in the film by the time it came out, but the name is vaguely familiar enough. "I think so."

You blink at that, tilting your head slightly. "How do you know Bambi?"

"I don't know Bambi," the argument is a relatively flat one. Louis turns to better face you, resting his arm against the back of your couch. "I've just seen some commercials."

That only seems to confuse you further. You straighten, pulling your legs towards your chest. "Where would you have seen Bambi commercials?"

"They were everywhere when it came out in the 40's."

You don't respond right away, your attention shifting away from Louis and towards your bent legs. As far as references that remind you of his lack of humanity, this is far from a drastic one. The 40’s weren’t long enough ago to be inconceivable to you.

Still, you’re quiet, as if thinking through the potential outcomes of your reaction. You nod once. “Right."

When you look up at him again, there's a hesitant sort of curiosity behind your eyes. It's an expression Louis's more accustomed to than he wants to be, it's the way you look at him when you're reminded of the reality of the differences between the two of you.

You tap your nails against your knee. "Does it feel weird?" The question comes out with a suddenness that doesn't suit you, the stiffness of the words sharp and uncertain. "All that time--carrying it inside your head?"

For a moment, all he can bring himself to do is sit with the question. Your question. It's a simple enough thing to ask, but not a exactly a straightforward thing to answer. Especially not to you, who has yet to experience a significant passage of time even by human standards.

"Well," he starts, "You know about the way that time has impacted aspects of my memory." You watch him patiently, saying nothing to prompt or rush him as he thinks through his response. "It does make things feel different--years spent with someone can feel like moments, and moments with others can feel like eternity."

You nod once, allowing his answer to sink in. "Which one am I?"

He knows his answer before he knows how to put it into words. You’re too familiar for either.

“You’re more like a memory.”

Your eyebrows briefly pinch together at that. You part your lips, but before you can respond the documentary’s music swells.

You turn your head in time to see the coyote lunge at a deer. You sigh, screwing your eyes shut before leaning forward, You press your forehead against his arm. “That’s depressing.”

Louis could have anticipated the reaction, you’re usually more bothered by animals dying in movies than people. Still, though, your ability to find comfort in him of all things will never not perplex him.

Instead of pointing out that you’re the one that chose to watch this, he gently reaches for the remote. “Fine, I’ll put on the movie.”

The familiar ringing is so muted, so low, Armand's certain that if it wasn't for his enhanced senses, he wouldn't have been able to hear anything at all. By the time he's turned his head, Louis is already reaching for his coat's pocket.

Armand frowns. If the late hour and limited number of people Louis talks to weren't enough to let Armand know who the message is from, Louis's smile as he unlocks his cell phone would be evidence enough. You--it's always you.

He continues forward, allowing Louis to type out a response without interruption. Once he's certain the message has been sent, Armand begins, "It's her again."

Louis's attention shifts away from the screen. "She's my friend."

"I know," he says, voice flat, "Your best friend."

"Stop it." There's nothing aggressive about Louis's response, but there's an underlying warning pressed into the syllables, the same almost-sharpness that Louis relies on whenever Armand implies a lack of fondness for Louis's latest source of entertainment. "It's not like that."

No, it really isn't. When you first began to weave yourself into Louis's life, Armand had almost convinced himself that this was a blatant betrayal that defied Louis's usual preferences. After about five minutes of assessment, Armand realized that the two of you really are as affectionately platonic as you claim to be.

"No," it's an easy enough concession. Armand continues forward, the coolness of the night's air sharp against his skin. Their walk hasn't exactly been the most exciting night of their companionship, but it has been non-contentious in a needed way after their latest session with Daniel. "You do spend a lot of time with her."

Louis's quiet for a moment, thinking through his response in a way that Armand finds unusual. "You could spend time with us, too."

The sentiment isn't as true as Louis intends it to be. While Armand's been around you regularly enough to consider you familiar, there are a few things that the two of you want to do on your own. Your weekly movie nights, casual drinking at bars, the surprise trip to Milan. And during the evenings in which Armand is there, Louis regards him with a subtle uneasiness that if you've noticed, you know better than to mention.

In your presence, what they are may only be portrayed in the softest of lights. The facets of vampirism must only ever be suggested, alluded to so faintly that they're rendered incapable of tarnishing that darling soul of yours Louis is so determined to preserve.

"And subject the poor, little fawn to an evening with two vampires?"

Armand keeps his gaze focused on what's ahead of them, but he can practically feel the lack of amusement radiating off of Louis. "Come on," he tries again, "She's not like that."

Although he'd love nothing more than to solely resent your existence, Armand does have to give you credit for that. You hadn't so much as missed a single step when Louis revealed the truth to you, never once treating him differently. You also barely flinched when Armand appeared in your home with no warning as a way of hurting Louis during a particularly lively argument. Armand's yet to determine if your bravery is a sign of idiocy or a testament to how certain you are in your connection to Louis.

It's far from rare for Louis to feel the need to defend you, but there's a determination there that seems urging. "She asked you to come over."

Louis's hesitation, though brief, is confirmation enough. He almost stills but seems to think better of it, placing his phone back into his pocket as if that will be enough to make Armand forget that you're the source of this. "She just ended things with the boy she's been seeing."

Hm. Not exactly an interesting update, but intriguing...more intriguing than why you usually call Louis, if nothing else.

"Alright," Armand agrees, "Let's visit your puppy."

The apartment building you live in is far from run down. You've slowly but surely transformed yourself into one of those rare artists with a curated following so obsessed with being able to credit themselves as the discoverer of the next big thing that they go out of their way to purchase anything that you've labeled as yours. Existing at the cusp of fame has allowed you to afford a decent apartment in the city, but it's nowhere near as nice as where you could be if you'd accept Louis's offer to get you a place closer to them.

Louis knocks on your door twice. In less than a second, you're clicking the lock out of place. You're beaming as you pull the door open, "Louis."

Armand watches Louis's expression melt into one of total warmth. There's a definiteness to your friendship that Armand might envy if he understood it any better. What's so special, so interesting about you that your presence is always desireable?

Louis extends an arm, offering you the bouquet of flowers he insisted on purchasing before visiting you.

Your smile widens even further at the arrangement. If it wasn't for the information that Louis gave him earlier, Armand would have no reason to think anything remotely upsetting happened to you tonight. "I love peonies. Thank you."

You lift a hand, your pointer finger gently brushing a thin petal as you examine the flowers. After a moment, you straighten, turning your head enough to acknowledge him. "Armand, hi." The greeting is cordial yet far from cold, the way you often are with him.

"Hello," he replies. You step back, pulling your front door open as a way of inviting them in. "I'm sorry about your boyfriend."

You pause at that, parting your lips as you look back at him. Louis speaks before you get the chance to, "I told you to look sad when we got here."

It's a playful chastising at best, but you react as if Louis had really meant it. In some ways, Armand believes he did. "Oh," the sound falls flat. You walk further into your home's entryway, giving them the space needed to enter. "Give me a second, I can do better." You turn slightly, holding onto the flowers a little tighter as you bring your free hand to your chest. "I'm distraught."

Your performance isn't worthy of a standing ovation, but there's a humor there that might have been charming if Armand's disinterest in you was less inherit.

"Nice try," Louis mumbles as he wanders towards your couch. He sits down with a casualness that highlights how used to existing in your space Louis really is. "Armand wasn't up for visiting anyone and I wanted you to at least look sympathetic."

You walk past your living room. Armand watches you for a moment before following, if for no other reason than to feel something resembling Louis's familiarity. He keeps his steps even, making a point of remaining a few paces behind you.

You stop in front of a cupboard. After opening the cabinet, you have to extend your arm so fully to reach a vase Armand's surprised when you manage to grab it without knocking it off its shelf.

"Trust me," you say, exaggerating the syllables as you approach the sink, "I'm very sympathetic." You place the vase beneath the sink before turning on the faucet.

Armand steps forward, setting a palm against the granite that makes up the island attached to your sink. "I'm sure." The words are spoken so lowly they're nearly drowned out by the sound of running water.

"What did he do?" Louis asks from his spot on the couch.

You lift the vase out of the sink's basin, shutting off the faucet as you move to set the glass onto the counter. "Broke up with me because he thought he had a chance with his ex-girlfriend."

"What?" Louis turns fully at that, craning his neck to look at you.

You nod sharply, completely validated by Louis's shock. "I know." You remove the plastic binding your bouquet together. "Men are the worst." You carefully pull a flower away from its bundle before placing it in the vase. The process of arranging the flowers must remind you who brought them to you, because after a second, you amend your statement, "Except you guys. Obviously."

"Obviously," Louis repeats in a way that only feels somewhat sarcastic. "So are you...upset? Angry?"

You pause, giving yourself a moment to really think about your response. "A little of everything, I guess." You pick up two smaller flowers by their long stems before placing them in the vase. "But not crushed." You reach for a filler flower. "I don't know...it's not like I was in love with him."

Louis rests an elbow against the back of your couch, propping his head up as he watches you continue to adjust your flowers. "I'm glad you weren't." You raise your eyebrows at that. "He wasn't the right person."

"You always say that."

"And I haven't been wrong yet."

You give him another look that would be threatening if it wasn't for the underlying fondness there. "Don't start." You don't wait for Louis's reaction before returning your attention to the flowers.

Armand watches you for a moment before allowing himself to take in your apartment. This place is a known entity, but it's not exactly familiar. He's never seen anything beyond the living but he has heard you talk about a room that you've converted into a studio space.

It's not as easy as it should be to imagine a space solely dedicated to your work when touches of it seem to cover your entire apartment. Two canvases too uniquely you to be purchased are hanging behind your couch, there's a ceramic vase on your dining table that reminds him of the way you paint, and then there's the abandoned palette and partially finished canvas still on its easel.

Armand walks forward slowly, approaching the painting as you and Louis begin discussing your least favorite things about the boy that ended things with you.

Even unfinished, the project is strong in its certainty, in its style. Your brush strokes are sharp, unafraid. Next to your well loved palette, there's a small photograph that parallels but doesn't exactly fully match the partially completed house on the canvas.

"That's an idea for a new collection--the repurposing of abandoned things, places..." Your explanation is abrupt in a way that borders on shy. "It's not meant to be as pretentious as it sounds."

There's a self deprecating quality to the disclaimer that doesn't fit you. Perhaps he's stumbled onto an actual insecurity. "Does someone seeing it like this make you uncomfortable?"

"Uh," you start, confused by his own suddenness, "No, not really. As long as you know to look it as a work in progress." You tap your nails against the counter. "I--I have a room down the hall that's full of half-finished stuff if you want to look at those, too."

The offer feels more like an attempt to convince yourself that you're okay with his analysis of your work before it's been polished than anything else. The concept of your uncertainty makes Armand curious enough for him to actively reach for your thoughts.

Armand's concentration shifts onto your mind, and he's immediately thrown by the vaguest implication of resistance. Your mental defense is so feeble it might as well not exist, but the fact that it does...that you're trying to at all is almost endearing enough to convince Armand to leave you be. Almost. "Are you attempting to block me out of your thoughts?"

You blink, the blood beneath your skin rushing its way up your neck at your embarrassment. "Are you trying to read them?" When your counter question doesn't impact him at all, you sheepishly offer an explanation, "Louis taught me."

Of course he'd teach his pet a new trick.

Louis lets out a small laugh at that. "The fact that he felt it at all tells me you're better at it than I'd thought you be."

Armand's gaze returns to your painting. You've managed to find a warmth, a beauty in the forgotten. "The implication of resistance isn't the same as resistance itself."

The criticism stings, but you don't let it impact your expression. You let out an exaggerated sigh, your shoulders slumping slightly to add to your point. "Be nice, I was just broken up with. Over text."

He continues to study the painting, his mind attempting to break the piece down by individual brush strokes. "That doesn't matter to you. Not really." Armand can almost imagine the creation of the house's boarders, of the formation of each individual stone and the heavy ivy covering them. "You're not 'crushed' because you're interesting and he's not, and a part of you knows that."

The sentiment behind the words leaves you desperate to push him away. Blood settles itself beneath your chest. Your feeble mental shield returns, this time determined enough for Armand to feel its desire to push him out.

"You don't know if I'm interesting," the response is too soft, too curious to reflect your unease.

You tap your nails against the counter, the gentle clicks of them hitting the granite echoing throughout the space. Armand refocuses on the canvas. "Louis wouldn't like you if you weren't."

Something about the statement seems to ease you. Armand's reminded of how almost overly genuine your friendship is. "Thanks."

Louis lets out an almost-scoff at that, his eyebrows briefly drawing together in a display of mock offense. "Don't make me sound so shallow."

"It's less about your shallowness and more about my winning personality."

"Uh-huh," Louis mumbles, pressing a synthetic lack of interest into syllables, "Well, as long as its about you."

Egyptian Ben 10 AU!!

A long while ago i got the idea of making an au where ben is an Egyptian Orthodox Christian (the idea entirely spawned off a joke my friend made about a hypothetical ben like that having to explain his fasting to rook)

At first the idea was gonna be that his parents are Egyptian immigrants and he was born and raised in Bellwood, but last second before finishing his character bio i decided to flip everything over and make this AU *in* Egypt

The timeline i have in mind for these bios are all at around right after the highbreed arc, but also before season 3 straight up starts. I feel like thats a good jumping-on point

In terms of aliens mostly i just get to explore what the aliens would look like as teenagers since uaf and ov didnt really do much with that (they didnt even bother giving wildmutt a tail) and have fun trying to make his flannel into outfits for the aliens. Hoever if i get any cool ideas for entirely revamping aliens id definitely do it

I tried to make fourarms darker skinned not sure if its showing. Id have done the same with stinkfly but the uniforms colorscheme wouldve crashed. I wanted to try giving wildmutt black fur because this ben has darker hair but nothing really quite worked hsjhds wildmutts obnoxious orange is just too iconic

Prep school is mostly an american thing, here the closest equivalent for the early 2000s would be an international school. Also i changed lawyer to doctor as thats the sort of "go-to" job that makes a lot of money, lawyers in egypt arent usually as fortunate

Here she doesnt wear her uniform this is just how she dresses. I tried to fit the cat motif like OS but i couldnt really think of something that fit. If i were drawing UAF or OV gwen in my own take id have given her cat imagery but i think for Jwanas personality it actually makes more sense for her to be boring and lose the cat

Jwanas also a lot more angsty about her magic (and it is magic) since her parents and basically entire surrounding community both Muslim and Christian are very against magic and consider it sin. Shes also a lot more angsty in general because like the bio says shes under alot of stress and is very jealous of ben, which is conflicting because ben is also her best friend and she doesnt wanna feel this sort of animosity to him. She also doesnt realize how much he looks up to her as someone who is a lot more intelligent and disciplined than he'll ever be (for example the concept of jwana having the spark isnt here, ben just can never learn magic because he doesnt have what it takes)

Kevin much like ben is more or less the same as he is in the show. With jwana i went with my own take but Ben and Kevin are more of, culminations of what i think are their best parts in the series and then just fleshing that out more

I felt like the outfit he has in earth-prime works best with a few touchups. Prime kevin has consistently had that rugged guy-who-lives-in-a-garage look so despite being the most basic outfit it works the best with a few touchups

I did change his anatomy, i wanted to make him look like a mutant freak. I gave him this sort of frankenstine's monster posture (a small reference to him being an amalgamation in os). He also has these stretch marks all over his body since his material absorption doesnt just create a coat around him but also alters his skin itself (so these markings arent there for os-era kevin) He also has a lot of weird bumps over his body

This kevin is 100% mutant no alien shenanigans. If i do aggregor i'll uhhh think of something else for him to be. His transition to the lightside is a lot longer and for the majority of the highbreed arc hes not even there hes more of an occasional ally if he feels like helping

Harry/Ginny

AH HINNY!

oh man, i oscillate between really liking hinny one day and feeling completely indifferent towards them the next.

hinny might be the relationship i like the most for harry, and it's all because because of the family aspect. through marriage w ginny, harry officially became a weasley family member. and, of course he always was one, but he actually is a weasley on paper and i think having that in writing would mean a lot to harry. and my golden trio heart can't not mention that by hinny being married - ron and hermione are literally harry's brother and sister (in-law) now and !!!!! that just makes my heart melt (i know those two were always harry's family but bc of the aforementioned reason, etc. you get it)

so right off the bat, when i try to organize my more positive thoughts on hinny, i'm mostly focused on how the relationship best serves harry, and only harry. and this is where my frustrations with the ship begins: it's so hard to think the other way around because ginny's narrative purpose is just to be harry's ideal love interest, instead of being a fully fleshed character. i really love ginny with all her spunk and feistiness, but she's so underutilized. she had a cute crush on him in the start of the series which was adorable, but her character was inarguably just "ron's younger sister". and after she gets possessed by volde/gets saved from the CoS by harry, she still continues to have a puppy-love crush on harry until OoTP!!! GAAHHHH!!! Apparently joanne said hinny were always meant to be soulmates and i think if these two had a consistent "invisible string" motif throughout the series, it would've been so good (and almost as good as romione's slow burn). So...

here's how i'd fix hinny (lmao):

i wouldve made the ginny a much more prominent character in PoA and beyond.

we get to see hinny actually have heart-to-hearts about the incidents of CoS - for ginny to play such an IMPORTANT role in the titular plotline of the second book, then to just have her blend into the background afterwards just boggles my mind - that was the perfect oppurtunity to make ginny an invaluable character in the cast. she has this huge experience in common with harry - being personally victimized by voldemort - that harry doesn't have w ron or hermione at that point and it would've been so nice to see harry find an equal, a confidant in ginny from then on - like, dont let the readers forget that harry and ginny have this huge thing in common, have it be with us in the back of our heads the whole time!

the potential of ginny being a maybe date for harry to the yule ball, harry feeling jealousy towards neville for getting to dance and spend time w ginny and harry being like "wait a minute! i'm supposed to crush on cho! im jealous of neville??" that wouldve been FUN - again, they couldve been a less insane version of romione hello

having the hinny subplot unravel in tandem with harry's crush and relationship with Cho in ootp

in ootp, you can argue that the story attempts to make a foil between cho and ginny's characters but if that were the case, it could've done a way better job of it

with harry's relationship w cho - harry likes her bc she's cool and pretty but she wants to connect with him through their connection via cedric and his death, which is off the bat a hugely touchy/traumatic topic for both of them and cho couldn't possibly fathom what it's like to be in the presence of voldemort/tom but guess which other character does ehehe...

now we're at hbp and this is where the good stuff starts bc if i'd had it my way, we'd have gotten their friendship in poa and two books of solid romantic build-up up until now

i honestly had a such a fun time with hinny in hbp, ginny in her OWL year being so cool and harry's hugeass crush on her- harry being a hormonal teenager was hilarious to read like its implied that harry is having increasingly inappropriate thoughts about her throughout the novel and theyre just intercut with "BUT RON-" that's some good shit

my one gripe w hbp's hinny is that i wish we actually got to see their dates sneaking around hogwarts, finding the perfect hideaways for makeout sessions, etc etc i know hp wasn't a romance fantasy by any means but imagine how swoony it wouldve been if we got to actually see these sunset dates instead of just being told about them - it wouldve been cathartic to actually see harry actually live the life of a normal teen boy before everything fell apart lol

if we got all these invisible string moments between them throughout the series, harry thinking about ginny and how good it felt to kiss her lips before he walks to his death in DH would've felt so much more earned

from a storytelling perspective, the case with hinny begs the question of if you can have a love interest for the jesus figure of your narrative? can you make a believable, grounded and balanced love story for the chosen one? i honestly think so but then you'd have to put equal amounts of effort and work into creating two nuanced characters and unfortunately we don't see that effort be put in ginny's character and that's why harry's endgame falls short for so many people. earlier, i said that this is the ship i like most for harry, but honestly that isn't saying a lot - i think with an almost saint-like character like harry, its hard to imagine a satisfying love and partnership for this kid. i like tomarry as a ship for when im feeling a bit insane but other than that, my main harry ship is him with a lifetime of peace and healing.

i also want to argue that hinny was never meant to be a primary romance in this story - the main romance/love story in the series is ron and hermione's and i think joanne's romance prowess all went into romione and i'm so thankful for that because i think it makes for better story (also i'm totally biased)

finally!!! got around to drawing etain!!! though honestly im so tired i decided to take it easy today so. i dont rlly like these but whatever. more about etain under the cut

so basically etain is neither an eris or milo sona but rather hes his own thing? basically he was milos friend (and secretly in love with him) before eris (but i drew emir here since hes an eris sona) came along. he immediately realized eris is manipulative and bad for milo. etain tries his best to keep milo away from eris but he is doomed to fail and die by milos hands. although he does manage to kill eris before he dies in one route, which is his happiest ending since he will at least know he managed to save milo from eris.

as for etains character, hes basically brash and unafraid to stand up for himself (and milo) around others but also very shy when it comes to his feelings for milo since hed never really been in love with someone before. hed been forced to crossdress his whole life and he really hated it (wow evil emir. hah jokes aside they are supposed to parallel each other in some aspects) and milo was the first person to truly embrace him for himself and assure him he sees him the way he wants to be seen.

his cardigan is a gift from milo (handmade) and he always wears it and takes very good care of it since it was the first item of clothing he wore out of his own will (and ofc a gift from his first love). etain also has yandere tendencies (his whole character revolves around the theme of envy and jealousy) but above all, he wants milo to be happy, and knows eris isnt where true happiness lies for milo. he notices milo changing because of eris (for the worse) and he continuously tries to step in, to separate them, to get milo away and to safety, but unfortunately etain was never meant to win. eris can easily manipulate milo back into their grasp, telling them etain is just jealous and is being selfish and doesnt want whats best for milo. all of eris' manipulation, as well as milos changes, will eventually drive milo to killing etain for his consistent attempts to get milo away. etain gets forceful when he realizes milo cant be reasoned with due to eris' grip on him, resorting to threatening eris and even attempting to harm them (and like i said, he succeeds in one route). unfortunately for him, milo will never see him as his savior, only eris. even though the one who wanted milo to be happy and loved for himself, the one who saw the best in milo change without his having to change, all along, was etain.

Simeon is the quiet jealous type. Out of all of the Obey Me characters, he has the strongest moral compass and in turn, the strongest guilty conscience. He can’t stand being jealous; he doesn’t know how to handle the mixed feeling of anger and insecurity, and to act out based on his own unpleasant emotions would be so very un-angel-like of him

So when he’s jealous, Simeon can sometimes retreat into himself and bottle it up. He doesn’t tend to do this in other situations, so it’s pretty noticeable when he’s jealous. He is a lot less talkative, less affectionate, and clearly trying to work through something internally

It never works though – everything has to come out eventually, whether for better or worse. Simeon almost becomes a little bit petty after holding in his jealousy for a while, especially if the situation is ongoing. If there is someone in your life consistently taking your attention away from him and threatening his status as your one and only, then there is going to be a price to pay. While he is able to carry on and smile to this person’s face, he is quietly sabotaging them in subtle ways

In moments where he doesn’t know how to restrain himself any longer, Simeon tries to snatch you away so that he can save face, and also his pride. The moment that he can see that someone is clearly bothering you or has overstayed their welcome, he’s whisking you away to safety without a moment’s notice. Since he’s so well composed, you often can’t even tell that he isn’t being genuine when you takes your wrist to lead you to something he is just dying to show you

When in the moment, you can tell Simeon is jealous by the way he suddenly becomes jittery and eager to leave the scene with you. His smile falters, and his expression turns, and he can’t seem to keep both feet still. He can’t take his eyes off you, either, and it’s almost as if it’s taking every but of his inner strength to keep from pulling you close to him

These are more subtle movements that allow him to remain composed to the public, but knowing Simeon so intimately, it’s clear to see that something is up. He’s prideful though, and embarrassed, so it takes a great deal of coaxing from him to ever admit that he was jealous. The way he sees things, if he is really secure in your relationship then he should have no reason to worry, and he never wants to blame you, so it’s a feeling that he shoves deep inside. No matter what his consciousness tells him though, he can’t but feel envious when he sees other people stealing your time and attention

Diavolo is by far the most straightforward in his jealousy. Unlike Simeon, Diavolo is more confident in his feelings and can pinpoint his exact emotions without much deliberation. He’s completely willing to admit to you when he is jealous; not only does he have nothing to hide, but he wants to communicate with you and prevent things like this from happening again. Come on, you don’t want him to be stuck feeling so jealous and helpless, right?

He’s the demon prince, so he’s fully expected to remain collected and composed in almost every imaginable situation. It is very rare for Diavolo to lose his temper, and it’s something you may very well never see. It’s all a facade, though. While he may be able to continue being his outwardly jovial and expressive self, it doesn’t change how he feels on the inside

Diavolo when jealous is controlling. It’s in his blood to lead and command, and there is hardly any exception. He wants to steer the situation into one that benefits him the most, and he does so with a laugh. He’s fiercely intimidating – he exudes power and dominance, and he’s so confident that you can’t help but believe that there’s no way he won’t come out on top, no matter the situation. To his enemies, his laugh can be terrifying

When he’s jealous, he’s going to tell you straight up. Sometimes it’s verbally, and other times it’s through physical cues. He’ll never ask you to stop doing something or interacting with someone, but that doesn’t mean he won’t try to stop the other party’s involvement on their end. Intimidation is a breeze for Diavolo; he doesn’t even have to do anything out of pocket or make a threat to leave someone shaking in fear, and my god does he abuse this

Anyone stealing your attention from him can expect Diavolo to join the conversation in seemingly good spirits, only to feel him glaring wide eyed daggers at them for far too long for comfort. It’s crazy how he can convey displeasure through and otherwise lively and full expression

Diavolo communicates his jealousy in the moment to you through physical touches that aren’t out of character for him, but are slightly different enough to let you know something’s up. While gently holding hands, or having his arm wrapped around your waist may look very casual and natural for a couple as established as you are, you can tell from his sudden need to be close to you that he’s feeling envious

THOUGHT ABOUT IT AND TBH.... maria 😭 OH ROE.... maria is roe's rebound after her and pewter break up, she's by no means just an innocent victim but roe is not kind to her and uses her and absolutely takes advantage of maria's obvious infatuation for her 💔 i fear its not even intentional either, not entirely, roe's just trying to keep her head above water, she'd grown so used to consistent reliable love and intimacy with pewter that having that stripped away from her is really life shattering. its definitely her lowest point imo.

id say she mainly only hurt maria emotionally, im sure she was physically rough with her too (they were in a gang together) but its moreso using her and toying with her emotions, esp when pewter comes back into the picture, at first anyways. roe's desperation to try and make pewter jealous and hurt the way roe hurt 💔 SIGH

Not willing to rewatch coz s1 I'm not a huge fan of and s2 is too much emotion for me rn but trying to remember Colin's character through the show. Coz in this season he's definitely all over the place.

Like in s1 I guess you could characterise him as a bit hopeless romantic, quick to fall in love, impulsive, kinda goofy. Definitely a younger brother. You could say easily embarrassed then but honestly the way he acted was hella fucking embarrassing, I'd hide too. Could be a sweet son. Not a bad friend but incredibly oblivious. Then s2 he was undebatably INSUFFERABLE after his travels. Pretentious and annoying. Not understanding of boundaries or able to let things go (the Maria visits). Very privileged - I mean they all are but compared to Anthony's level of responsibility he clearly had none. Showed some positive protective instincts, helping out the featheringtons. So in some ways shown to be a better friend but in others WAY worse - talking shit on Pen: unforgivable. So still easily embarrassed. Kind of a little shit but not particularly funny I wouldn't say? That's bendict. Not very opinionated, that's Eloise. Francesca has passion he didn't. Idk just kinda nothing in terms of ways to describe him.

Then s3. Oh boy. Suddenly after yet more travels hes a chronic flirt - no hate just a weird 180. Discovered the joys of group sex at some point - again no hate but tells me nothing about who he is. I just feel like Daphne and Anthony, by this point in their seasons, were really fleshed out characters and personalities. You knew who they were, their motivations, their histories, their huberis. Its been 3 years and I still feel like we dont know Colin. Maybe because the focus is on Pen? But even then I dont know if they've hugely expanded on her character thus far.

I guess I wonder that for the people who are huge fans of Colin - why? Who do you think he is? What is his character? Do you think its consistent? Does the inconsistency make sense to you somehow? I think its kinda funny how Rowling self inserted into Hermione but forgot herself is a adult woman, and Hermione is a teenager sometimes, but like only sometimes.

A lot of Hermiones rule bendings and actions just sounds like what an 20s or 30s something would want to do, and would have full conviction as well as planning ability to carry it out. Sorta like the way you cant file a lawsuit and WIN if you are 10 but can if you are 21. Rowling wishes she could do what Hermione can do but forgot she was writing a teenager, then went "oh its ok. She settled it all in the end off pages."

Rowling will be like "Hermione is me and so mature and i wanted to do that to people i hate all my life" when it comes to time traveling - to take more classes than her peers because its fair where? - and "punishing" a bad journalist who spread stupid rumors and "punishing" the students and teachers she hated, or erasing her parents out of her records. Because only adults could break big rules like that and maybe deal with consequences. But then in the same books same chapters she will be like "Hermione is forever 13 year old and hates defying rules" when it come to the characters emotional development. And worse, after that couldnt write all the messy logical backlashes and consequences that this teenagers actions left.

Coupling with Emma Watsons casting and all the Mary Sue script changes influencing later books, the result is the worse, most self entitled, inconsistent, sloppily written female character ever created among all the real, logical teenage characters. Some like Harry is Mary Sue-ish, but hes at least consistent and logical to a teenager. Hermione is a Sue and couldnt even be a decent one that makes a lick of sense.

we like to dunk on Movie Hermione, and her looks and the Ron bashing can make us dislike her because thats not book Hermione, but in terms of being a Mary Sue , movie Hermione is actually a much better written character than book Hermione. One is at least consistent and is a character despite "perfect". Movie Hermiones lines and moments are still things a , very perfect, schoolgirl can know and do. Book Hermione cant decide if shes a teenager character with emotional flaws or a 30 something 4th wall goddess with super meta powers that can solve every characters romance problems. Like you cant choose both of these, Rowling.

its so frustrating bc this is actually why its so hard to convince Hermione lovers and criticizers on points from either side on her personality and her relationships with others. The info we get about the Nohrians moms is pretty sparse but Leo's insecurities and desire to be seen kind of reads to me as like stemming from a hard critique mom. I don't think Leo is at all conscious of it but I think it says something his desire to be seen by Camilla specifically and her being the most "motherly" might imply something.

It's an angle I like to play with personally. Also I guess the logical assumption of the Concubine War was the mothers all competed and potentially assassinated another's kids. So a lot of hatred by the nature of the environment. Kind of funny if Leo and Camilla's mothers REALLY despised another....and their bloodlines converged in Forrest.

I get that info but i feel like a lot of the supplementary content like the manga kinda plays leo as having no respect or mind for his mother, when it comes to canon its not really 100% for me, though coicidentally in my own rewrite stuff i do write leo's relationship with his mother to have been much closer.

i feel like leo's desire for camilla comes from the narrative poles placed on camilla and xander to be foils to his desire, the things he "cannot have", whereas odin and niles are written as the foils of the things he fears himself to be/look like. camilla and niles sit on the same pole of sexuality and repression. leo is jealous of the attention he does not let himself chase, and only ever watching from afar, he associates positive attention from a figure of attention and compassion as well as the generally most present woman in his life who is also a blatant sexual figure, and camilla's attention given to corrin is obviously sexually charged, leading casual intimacy and recognition to be linked directly to sexual attention in his head. using what we know about writing and reflection we can derive from this that leo represses both of these needs for himself and worries that if he speaks out about his needs, he would come off as a pervert. he's worried of coming off as clingy or needy or annoying and quiets these insecurities with the knowledge he's "not good enough" and therefore does not deserve to ask and therefore cannot be annoying, clingy or needy. he wants it to happen naturally without any movement from himself, which is a consistent problem he faces as a character, where he lets himself stagnate like an iceberg.

theres more to say about leo's fears of queerness that afix to both this and the xander size of the poles but i literally just woke up so maybe ill get into it later. in supplementary materials we see that leo is self conscious of his own 'femininity' and his relationship with xander is strained by what we can assume is xander mirroring his father and physically lashing out at leo when he's upset. leo's initial rejection of forrest comes from the way that leo's character approaches insecurity, which is to push the source as far away from him as possible. im always happy to discuss him as a character because he's very often written off as shallow despite being somewhat suspiciously one of the best written characters in the game (which is suspicious due to the large amount of changes he went through which we will never fully know during production, enough that even the cover of the game portrays a late beta design, with light under clothes and green eyes, which is not easy to ignore when you know how very purposeful and conscious the designs and usage of color espessially are in fates... leo was probably intended to play a larger role before script cuts started, which slowly removed him more and more, but random strands are still present in the story and supplementary contents. we will probably never know for sure, but it's my guess that he was supposed to either serve a more azura-like role as a tertiary protagonist or he was a more traditional sort of camus figure rather than xander. anyways, im rambling now)

However. I do have my complaints with the writing, so I’m gonna talk about what I don’t like of the writing

A) consistency

The consistency of the writing is… off? They flip flop on how much 13 dislikes guns quote a bit in s11 (hating them in ep2 and 4, fine with the shot gun in 6, refuses to talk to the woman in 10 until she puts the gun down but will talk to the brother in 6 with one in her face etc) and I feel like they forget about the points system a bit (mentioned in 3 and I think 8 but j don’t remember it being mentioned again until s12 with Ruth/fugitive doctor, but I could just be forgetting), and this one is more nitpicky than consistency but I feel like they should’ve kept with Swiss army sonic for at least one more episode, if only with Ryan and Graham

Another nitpicky point but speaking of the fugitive doctor I wish they would’ve done more with her, even just as a mention which I’m including as consistency cuz she really just disappeared after that episode

B) character arcs

Yaz is basically the second main character imo, and she doesn’t really get a character arc? She definitely grows as a character, adopting bits of the doctor’s personality, taking charge when separated from the doctor, etc, but to my knowledge she doesn’t get an arc? Or maybe I missed it? She definitely gets the most screen time/character of the fam + Dan but I think even background characters got better than her sometimes (the first that comes to mind is Bella from s12 ep3), I could be wrong on this of course, I don’t like- analyze media and I totally might’ve missed shit but moving on

Dan also wasn’t dealt with the best. I mean- I really didn’t like him the first time I watched s13 and while now I think he’s fine I’m not sure I’ll ever truly like him like I do with most/all other characters? I feel like he’s under utilized and doesn’t really fit into the story very well? I think it’s good when he’s comic relief or a supporting character for yaz but a lot of the time he’s just… boring/plain

Graham and Ryan I think served their purpose actually pretty well and Graham in particular had one of my favorite developments, like he started off as kinda a jerk but he grew to love everyone a lot and I like that they were able to explore his grief pretty well, although I hate the message of s11 ep10. I think in s12 he worked pretty well as a comedic character that had some deep moments

Ryan, out of the original fam is my least favorite but not because he’s bad, I just think the other 2 are better. I don’t think I have much to say about him, tbh? Like overall I think he was used really well and had some nice development (s11 ep9 with the blind kid, his relationship with Graham, his fear of the earth becoming orphan 55, him being the first to want to leave the tardis) and I don’t really have any notes- I with we’d have seen more of him and 13 but that’s a common theme of all the companions

C) resolution

I think resolution is a terribly boring episode, and I’m sure that’s not a super popular opinion but any time where 13 or yaz isn’t on screen it feels like it drags on, which of course, could just be my bias. But like- I don’t really care that Ryan’s dad is back so for half the scenes im just… bored. It could be a really interesting topic if they had incorporated him more, have Ryan get a letter or message from him one or two times, have Ryan be jealous of the relationship between a kid and their dad, smth like that

But as it is, I think the extra characters are boring and under used, Ryan’s dad has no emotions connected to him, and while the dalek is cool it could have been better used?

Also 13 and yaz should have been allowed to hug and hold hands more, like let them be affectionate damn

None of this is especially bad, though. Other than resolution, which is easy enough to just- not rewatch, it doesn’t retract from my enjoyment of the show, in any way

popping in and posting to the void for some... character introspection? a character study? whatever *taps mic* 🎙️📣 the #1 karisu supporter is reporting for duty, this won't be that long.

saw this gif on my feed and me, school dropout who once dreamed of being a psychiatrist, had some ™Thoughts. im a disorganized person, from my mind to my actions, so i will try to make this neat as i possibly can. i actually took my meds today, so my head is quieter.

at some point in the show, in the borderlands, i think either during their first game or the seven of hearts, im pretty sure karube harshly says something pertaining to arisu being lazy while he (karube) works his ass off. my amnesia may be misguiding me so just to be safe, if he didn't say this, arisu's family definitely has (or something along the lines of it).

so, we have this picture of arisu. he's a college drop out who refuses to get a job, stays home and games all day. clearly, he's very smart, so to his family he's just lazy, since he has this intelligent brain, yet he still dropped out of college and won't get a job.

(read: burnt out. arisu is the CEO of gifted kid burnouts but that's another discussion.)

now, let's look at karube. i have barely read the manga, but in the show, we know little about him or his past. his surface personality shows someone who is somewhat brash; doesn't keep his head on in stressful situations; indulges in quite a few unhealthy habits.

he's reckless, almost — having an affair, indulging it right under the nose of the ™Other Man, subsequently got fired and punched in the face. clearly has no qualms about violence. he's farther in life than arisu but he's still a mess (who has an affair at their job, other than secretaries and smooth CEOs?).

he doesn't appear to be extraordinarily smart, meaning he probably has no career ideas lined up. even if he did have something in mind aside from the bar, he wouldn't get any scholarships and can't afford to pay his way through college.

arisu's family sees him as a disappointment and almost a lost cause, but it appears karube sees him differently, and is jealous of him, in a way. slight inferiority complex vibes, just slightly, given it's clear he thinks arisu could accomplish great things if he weren't so burnt-out lazy. arisu is smart, we mentioned this. he has a family, not a particularly loving one, but they would pay for his schooling. if arisu went back to college, he could be anything he wanted to be, really.

and what does karube have?

in his last moments, he didn't think of a mother or a father, which leads me to assume he has no family. highschool grades aside, he isn't academically gifted. he has no family to help pay college fees. arisu's life isn't amazing, but he still has more opportunities than karube. (opportunities he pushes away due to clear burn out, depression, and some other things.)

the trio, they live like teenagers, despite being adults. their life consists of goofing around and doing nothing for themselves. karube probably feels like he himself can't do better this, and neither can chota, but he sees arisu differently. he isn't willing to change himself, since he has no motivation or even the capabilities to, but arisu does. arisu could thrive better without them, if he opened his eyes and locked in. that's what karube thinks.

Personally I didn't get that from the scene with fragile. He seemed far more preoccupied with "ruining" her appearance, reputation, standing as a trustworthy porter company and her pride

It doesn't read as sexual gratification as much as smugness

Hes envied how comfortable in her own skin and has confidence in her looks (and possibly sexuality) and people who care for her/ admire her, possibly even healthy romantic/sexual relationships, and loving parents that didnt abuse her (at least in the ways that "daddy" didnt/arent as obvious) and now he's finally able to bring her down to his "level" to try to make them equals again in the only way he knows how, by dragging her down with him

Im not even sure if there is a sexual component? I think its far more complicated than that, and has far ,more to do with higgs' insecurities and envy tbh

I think the lick with sam is the closest of his actions to have sexual motivation, but even then I'm not sure its almost like hes trying to lay himself bare and be vulnerable while completely in control of sam? That scene is the one where his motives feel the most obscured

(with amelie i honestly keep forgeting that the deathless freaks comic didn't happen where amelie smacks his ass back right after that scene)

But I would be suprised if that was something amelie agreed to in order to upset sam further and bolster higgs as the despicable "villain"

Also many of these wikis are fairly obvious with their lgbtq+ phobia like assuming higgs must be attracted to fragile because of the licking but his attraction is questionable if its sam?

It also seems kinda fucked that its comparing sexual assult to being a pervert, when thats caused a lot of lgbtq+ descrimination in the past? Like higgs is definitely a pervert, but thats not why.

I see this consistently with wikis based on kojima games (and quite a bit of scifi fandoms too) only giving legitimacy to straight characters/ relationships and delegitmizing lgbtq+ characters

So a lot of this is my own personal interpretation, I only really used the wiki screenshot to gather the "scenes" I use and don't entirely agree with some of the terminology and phrasing. But it is a place i can use to get all the canon plot beats in one place and I already had this interpretation before reading the wiki section.

I think all the things you said can be true with him also being a bit of a creep. Like, he has a Lot of depth as a character and I don't want to dumb it down to "Oh he's just a creep who assaults people" cause that's not at all the case.

But at the same time from the moment you meet him he just gives off Bad Vibes. He can absolutely be jealous of Fragile and looking to ruin her in every way (physically, mentally, reputation wise) and still be Weird about it. He's a complex character with complex motives and no one reason for doing something.

We might just interpret his character differently but this is how I read a lot of the stuff he did. Again, not everything gets dumbed down to him assaulting people cause he wants to but he does give me personally that vibe. He can violate Sam's space purposefully to make him uncomfortable and still get some sick gratification from it. The way he creepily pats Sam sometimes, talking about Fragiles "~pretty face~", etc, these are all real things I've both seen and been victim of by people who absolutely do get off on it.

Again this is all just how I read his character, and there is no one way to interpret any character.

absolutely and i love talking about the writing process so i'm happy to do that!

specifically for ateez this one was interesting. before them i never wrote rpf, and honestly i found it kind of weird. i was used to writing fics for pairings from tv shows or books where i had a fairly limited lens into a character, but then i felt more creative license to stretch things.

with ateez and rpf that was a totally different feeling and even though this is fic.... i kind of always feel this pressure to make it feel real. this is why you'll consistently see mannerisms for each of the boys across all of my fics, whether it's an AU or not, and also why you'll never see me write something like..... cheating or straight up noncon..... like i just don't see it in them and couldn't make it believable.

so given that... when i started getting into ateez i had four years of content available to me to essentially download into my brain. i watched TONS of old content, v-lives, i read their universe messages, etc. and while that was part of just being an atiny it was also research. before i really got into writing aurora i wrote out detailed headcanons for each of them that included sfw and nsfw details. a lot of that included their mannerisms that i would kind of file away when watching lives. i also pay close attention to their vlogs, their photos of what they wear in their off-time etc. so that when i write them, it feels more grounded.

for example, mingi has a habit of silently laughing with his mouth open SO wide and his head back, if i describe him laughing it will often be like that or i will have that image in my mind to inform how i'm going to describe him laughing in a scene. i won't just say "mingi chuckled" because it's another word for laughing, i'll describe his body and how he laughs because that's who he is.

i would say there are members i feel more comfortable in writing than others. yunho is my bias, but also the member i feel the most connected to when writing so he comes more easily. wooyoung, mingi, and san are up there too with members i feel like i don't have to work at. seonghwa is so flexible because he's such a good actor that i think i can mold him more and have it feel real, but i still have a good idea of who he is. yeosang, hongjoong, and jongho i feel less connected to in this way and i've had to work more at to feel like i'm writing them well.

my biggest tip though would be to watch lives and really get a sense for them talking. i pay attention to their cadence, how they sit/stand, where are their hands, what are their expressions doing, how do they look when they're happy/surprised/pissed/tired/etc. and then it helps me stretch from there. lives and logbooks and their vlogs are my biggest ally. the entire going home arc of aurora with yunho was informed from his vlog when he goes to his parents house. there are details in that chapter that are directly ripped from the vlog, so naturally it would feel more like him, it is him (or as close as we can get).

before writing to get in the headspace i'll usually watch a bit of a vlog or live for the member i'm writing about and that's really helped me get to know them and my own characters much better.

personality/backstory

Briarstar has a very tranquil air about her. She takes every challenge with stride and poise, and never lets her weakness be shown. She’s known amongst the clans for her level-headedness, and her reputation is unprecedented. Despite this prideful and brave exterior she portrays, she feels emotions deeply and harshly, especially when it concerns her clan. Her devotion to her clan unfortunately prevented her from finding a romantic relationship in her warriorship, and she finds herself often jealous of mothers with their kits, but she feels it is too late for her to try. When her and Jackdawsong were kits, many noticed that Jackdawkit was very outgoing and charismatic, while Briarkit was subdued, and remained attached to her mother up until the last moment before her apprenticeship. Throughout her apprenticeship, she learned more about herself, and was no longer scared to remain stagnant on the ground. Her newfound bravery and confidence she found throughout her training led to her warrior name, Briarflight, like a baby bird flapping its wings for the first time.

When I became his successor, I was heartbroken. I wasn't sure how I was to live up to such an upstanding leader, but as I got my 8 additional lives, my 8th life of bravery, was gifted by Crowstar, and he reassured me that I would lead the clan through highs and lows, and I must always put on a brave face."

Jackdawsong - "My brother and closest confidant. Jackdawson, like our father, can be a bit abrasive on the outside. His humor, though, manages to lift my spirit when I feel I'm at my lowest, and likewise, I can ground him when he gets too hot-headed."

Juniperhop - Briarstar’s mentor. Her bubbly and chipper personality brought out some of the hidden positivity in Briarpaw, and their training consisted of not only learning how to hunt and fight, but how to navigate life and find beauty in little things.

Duckstep - Duckpaw was Briarflight’s first apprentice when she was a freshly-made warrior. Many people worried about Duckpaw’s ability to be a warrior, considering the crooked paw he was born with. Briarflight, before the apprentice ceremony, specifically asked for Duckpaw, as she knew what it was like to be shy and reluctant. Throughout his apprenticeship, Briarflight taught him how to use his weight to climb and fight to his advantage, and he grew to be one of the most respected warriors in the clan.

Stormwish - Stormpaw was Briarflight’s second and latest apprentice. Stormpaw also happens to be Briarstar’s niece! They both are very similar in personality, and are quite close to this day.

Olivenose - Briarstar trusts her medicine cat very deeply, and both are very close and discuss clan matters quite often
