this season is giving us nothing on the butchie side, so i’m taking my crumbs of any time on that scene when butcher was explaining what he did, the camera panned to hughie and his reactions, because that was who butcher was bracing himself for.
the season finale better pay off, istg

I'm watching 4x07 rn and I need to rant about Spencer and William Reid
I've seen some theories on here about Spencer being (sexually) abused by his father and, to be honest, that idea never really surprised me
But now I'm watching this episode and those theories don't feel like theories anymore, they feel real (to me, feel free to disagree ofc)
His mom having the feeling that Spencer was in danger when he was young, her having an argument about it with his dad, his dream about his father murdering that kid etc.
But what really struck me was Spencer's insistence on his father killing Riley. You would expect him to be relieved when Garcia tells him there was nothing suspicious in his father's files, but instead he asks if it's possible that his father did it "under the table". Even when Hotch tells him his father doesn't fit the profile, he seems in disbelief rather than relief
As someone who was abused by their dad, I relate to that a little too much. I feel sick when someone tries to convince me he isn't all that bad
I feel like he knows his father did something to him (whether he consciously remembers or not) and he's trying to get his father to pay for that. For whatever reason (maybe he doesn't consciously remember, maybe he's ashamed, maybe it doesn't matter because his father wouldn't be punished for the crime since it happened so long ago) he can't get his father to be convicted for the crime(s) he committed against Spencer, so he hopes there's another crime he can get his father to be punished for
Even when they believe Spencer's father killed the guy that killed Riley, Spencer still wants to run the prints from that guy's glasses, knowing they may very well be his father's. When Derek tells him his father would be going to jail for a long time, he just nods, he wants his father to go to jail, even if it turns out he killed a pedophilic murderer. He just wants to see his father punished.
Even Derek says it: "You're just determined to nail him, aren't you? Doesn't even matter what for." I feel like at this point, Derek might've realised something was up, he was a child victim too, after all
Also, when he went into hypnosis and said "I don't wanna be here" that broke me, I had to pause the episode and cry for a while. That wasn't about his dad telling him "I love you" that was about something worse that happened that night, or in that place (his childhood bedroom)
Of course, all of this could just be because his father left him at a young age, that could be why Spencer resents him so much. I just feel like there's something more at play
