In your Spitfire AU, since Zuko is looking after Lu Ten II, what happened to Ursa?
Zuko is slightly older in the Spitfire AU. He was banished at fifteen, his head a little clearer and denial a little weaker than in canon. After his first look through the Air Temples, Zuko decides that if he can't find a myth, he might as well search for the next best thing.
Finding Ursa isn't easy, but in time he makes it to a secluded house in a near-forgotten part of the world. His mom is there, older and stronger and alive.
But she isn't alone.
And Zuko, as it turns out, didn't keep the best company during his search.
When Ursa is discovered and her secrets are laid bare for assassins (for Ozai) to find, she begs Zuko to take his little brother and run. She'll do anything it takes to protect her children, even if that means leaving them behind to keep a target off their back. Ursa diverts attention from them and allows Lu Ten's ancestry to be kept a secret. She orders Zuko not to follow her again, and disappears.
Zuko is left with a little three-year-old brother to raise and a mother he cannot hold onto.

I just don't know when would that happen yet.#Probably post-war#She returns to her children only to come face to face with their overprotective found family (aka the Gaang)#Their reunion would be quite messy at first but...it'll all be okay#They all love each other deeply. And sometimes love isn't enough. Sometimes there are things that you can't forgive or forget.#But Ursa did everything she did because she loved them. And Zuko knows that. Zuko understands that.#(He was forced to make the same decision in Ba Sing Se—giving yourself up and leaving the people you love behind so that they're safe)#(He understands)#But Lu Ten II doesn't#He doesn't remember Ursa. Not really. He knows of her what Zuko and Uncle tell him. But he doesn't remember ever having a mother.#(Tara is soft and warm and kind to him. She holds him and takes care of him and makes sure he's well-behaved. And he loves her.)#(Is that what makes a mother? Or is it the blood you share?)#Ursa isn't much like Tara. But she loves him dearly—there's a reason he has the name of someone who was so dear to her.#She is Lu Ten's mother. Zuko's mother. Uncle's sister.#And she isn't like Tara. But she loves him even if he can't remember her.#So maybe he can learn to love her back.

There’s something about Rhaenyra’s epithet being the Black Queen and how the color black is often associated with mourning and grief. Because Rhaenyra’s story really starts with the death of her mother, and that’s a grief that she carries onto her adulthood. But it goes deeper than that, we’re told how many children Aemma lost during her marriage to Viserys, and Rhaenyra, though just a child herself at the time, had to experience the loss of her siblings alongside her mother, never being enough for her father because she wasn’t a son. Then she finally becomes the heir, but not in time to save her mother, and the grief never really leaves her. She loses Harwin (and at least in the book, Laena). She learns about the usurpation of her throne at the same time that she learns about the death of her father. She loses her only daughter.
She watches her sons leave her one by one until only one is left.
How could she ever be anything other than the Black Queen?

... Man, I keep thinking back to all those discussions regarding the similarities and contrasts between the omen twins vs. the empyrean twins.
Between Morgott and Malenia, and how they both try to deny their respective curses. How Mohg and Miquella both dabble in blood.
How Miquella and Malenia remained close, as brother and sister, where's the omen twins - possibly - drifted apart due to differing paths.
... Yet in the end, Miquella abandoned even Malenia. It might not have been his intent; but by the time we do reach him, he's, imo, very dismissive.
... Which kinda leads me to think: Were Morgott still alive, he might have come to save Mohg -- and if not that, then to atleast avenge him.

#I feel like the tragedy of viserys and dany is they really might have been close and loved each other normally of they'd been allowed to#barristan says viserys always seemed aerys's son but when has westeros had any sort of developed understanding of mental illness#dany knew him best and she said the last kindness left him when he sold their mother's crown#it begs the question how much kindness there would have been if they hadn't been children forced out on the streets#a brother dany says never forgave her for their mother's death giving her birth.#but who told her stories and brought her up while his own mental faculties were wearing thin#it doesn't feel like tywin keeping tyrion based on lannister name and blood alone#she loved him once.#that viserys had some inherent lecherous evil in him doesn't feel in line with that to me#it doesn't feel in line with dany please#if ned is the good guardian to tywin's bad one viserys was just a boy who found himself in that role under the worst possible circumstances#and who under duress of those awful circumstances and his own undiagnosed mental illness#(for which he never got any help or support)#failed his sister very very badly#leaving daenerys to feel the hole of his absence even when he was still alive#because she loved him. once#lol anyway!#asoiaf#daenerys targaryen#viserys targaryen
