another eddie thought.
eddie munson who had to have his head shaved bc his curls were matted so bad when he was younger. as soon as he got taken in to wayne’s care, after spending nearly a year with his dad, his hair was beyond gone. barely brushed, just neglected.
wayne, bless his heart, tried to detangle it. he knew how eddie liked his long hair, he didn’t want to shave it. he even took him to the beauty salon, the beauty school up the road, tried to get them to detangle it. two deep conditions and an hour later, the instructor told him the best they could do was shave it, send him with some product on how to care for it in the future.
eddie was devastated, wayne was guilt ridden, and eddie’s locks were now shaven off right before he had to start at the middle school.
from that point on, eddie was nearly neurotic about brushing his hair every night. getting every single tangle out. ripping through the curls until it’s smooth. frizzy and slightly damaged from the tension, sure, but smooth.
at first, it’s something you try to talk him out of. “you’re ripping your hair out.”
“it’s fine.” eddie grunts, paddle brush tearing through the base of his neck, the most matted and tough curls. “rather lose a little than have to shave it all off again.”
he tells you the story, once, after that. one that leaves your heart aching, despite how he tries to shrug it off. insist it’s not a big deal, that it didn’t bother him- how his father’s neglect hurt him yet again, even after he was taken in with wayne. you know better.
you don’t try to fight him on it anymore. instead, every night, it becomes a ritual that you brush his hair for him. a far gentler touch, more patience to work out each curl and tangled strand. grasping at the base of his head to keep it from tugging and hurting so much.
it’s soft and intimate. leaves eddie’s chest with a warm, gooey thick feeling, and his eyelids fluttering with sleep. trying to keep his head up while you brush his hair, scratching at the scalp, always pressing a kiss to his part when you’re finished.

agere sensories - touchies!
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/e2ef5d9ae00390341705505a5c1256c9/06c5da4615354e41-65/s400x600/c0ea79a2498208eddf32648bd92470061db26961.webp)
Seeking
Get cuddles! From your friends, caregiver(s), family, stuffed animals, toys! You can wrap yourself in blankets to imitate a hug!
Let your hands explore whenever you travel. Snow, grass, leaves, rain, mud, sand, rocks, maybe dogs you pass by (ask the dog owners first for permission)
Kinetic sand, clay, slime, beads, crinkly plushies, textured books for babies, sensory mats, brushable toys
If you're an older little or even a middle, cooking! especially dough making, but handling food involves a lot of touching
Speaking of, play with your food! Eat with your hands, explore the textures in an approachable way
Toy cars and fidget spinners (anyone remembers these?)! Beyblades! I love when you can feel the spinnies!
Let someone brush you, or get a scalp massager as an alternative! Maybe you brush them, feeling your hands on the hair? Both are good!
Wear thick, warm clothes! Especially since it's already December (!). The heavy blankets and coats always make me feel regressy!
If you're still seeking touchies but not as overwhelming as hugs, hand holding! And its universal, it can be a person, a stuffie, a doll, Or even a hand warmer if you're closeted! something about my hands not being lonely is very comforting
Another subtle touchy are keychains! They don't leave a residue and come in a variety of textures, or can even stimulate other sensories (like holographic for eyes, or be electronic and make sounds for the ears)
Avoidant
Have your baby wipes on you, maybe a hand sanitizer in case a bad touchy appears!
If you're fem leaning, have a small box designated for the jewelry/hair things you're wearing, to have a safe spot to put them in whenever they overwhelm you
Invest in hair detanglers! Bonus points if they're designed for kids! it minimizes the pain of brushing your hair
Make sure your friends and caregiver(s) are aware of your boundaries, and settle on alternatives to display affection. They should want the best for you!
wear something to indicate your limits, ex. "no hugs", "ask before touching", "no touching". It can be a pin, a bracelet, or even a sign on the sunflower lanyard if you have one
be thorough while buying clothes. Sometimes it's one small detail that makes the clothing uncomfortable. Never rush yourself!
As tedious as it is, you may want to consider cutting out clothing tags (i recommend keeping them if they have irregular washing instructions), and tags on your stuffies too!
baby towels, baby blankets! They may be smaller but way less harsher than their adult counterparts
Keep track what textures you like and dislike, with other sensories! It makes looking after yourself easier if you know what to look for
It's okay if something overwhelms you and you retreat. It's your coping mechanism and nobody else's, you get to dictate your tempo

haircare routine
pairing: sirius black x fem!reader
description: in which sirius does your hair.
tags: fluff, they're best friends!, sirius takes reader through his extensive routine that he undoubtedly has because he has amazing hair, reader is a bit lazy so im assuming she uses no products, reader wears a swimsuit but nothing is specified.
a/n: first sirius piece!! i love that guy. also, i'm being so unspecific about the bathroom arrangements, so think of it however you want. i didn't want to get too into the logistics. enjoy!
wc: 854
“ow! fuck, sirius,” you curse as he yanks your head with a brush. he continues to abuse that knot in your hair much to your dismay.
“it's not my fault your hair is like this.”
“yeah, but- ah! i said i could do it myself.”
“when? you wouldve left it like this for a few more days and then been all pissy to me because you look like shit. i'm doing you a favour. stay still,” he says firmly.
you whine, “you could be less rough with it.”
“sorry,” he frowns sympathetically at you in the mirror, “just trying to detangle, ‘m almost done.”
his actions soften, smoothing a hand over your hair. he turns you around and nods his head toward the bathroom. “get in the tub, i'll be there in a second.”
james had dared you to jump in the lake and you, always up for a challenge, did it. when sirius found you, sopping strands and layered clothes, he coerced you into letting him wash your hair, yapping on about how your hair’s going to be matted if you don't shampoo it now–high maintenance prick.
you assess the temperature of the water, deeming it perfect, you take off the damp shirt you had on. climbing in carefully, you sink down till you're fully submerged, letting the warmth encompass you. you come back up for air after a few seconds, and sirius walks in with a stool. he sets it behind the clawfoot and looks at you.
“where'd you get that swimsuit from?”
“oh, got it from marlene, i ran into the changing room after her swim team practice.”
its explanation enough for him as he doesnt press further, far be it from him to question your antics. he pulls out a shampoo and conditioner–his ones, fancy looking bottles with labels written in cursive print, they exude expensive, nothing like the plastic bottles that sat in your shower caddy.
he sits down and picks up a cup filled with water and tips it over your head, you don't mind that it drips down your face. he slowly scrubs the shampoo into your scalp, unintentionally massaging as he goes, you hum in approval and he chuckles. he does this twice, rinsing off the soapy suds before moving on to the conditioner, raking it through your ends. he combs through your hair before washing that off too.
when he's done, he leaves you to clean the rest of your body. Its a clumsy ordeal taking off the swimsuit that clung to your skin, but you manage, leaving a few puddles in your wake. stepping out of the tub, you slip into a bathrobe, securing the tie at your waist. you walk out to find sirius waiting next to the vanity.
“what are you still doing here?”
“you’re getting the full treatment, sweetheart,” he urges you closer, “c’mon sit.”
you tentatively step forward and take a seat in front of the mirror, eyeing the box of vials–all glass but containing liquids of different colours and consistencies. you peer at him suspiciously through the mirror.
“you're not dyeing my hair green are you…?”
he flashes you a wicked smile that makes you nervous, “if i was, would i tell you?”
a small pout forms on your lips and he shifts to earnest, fingers gently raking through your hair, “i'm not,” he says firmly.
a hint of hesitancy remains but you nod nonetheless, allowing him to begin.
you watch as he pours product into his hand, and work it into the damp strands, making sure to evenly coat it. he crosses over to stand before you, a different substance in his palm, it looks like whipped cream and you arent sure how he managed to get it to foam up like that.
“bend your head please,” he guides your head down till your hair hangs over, he kneels down too. “your neck will hurt a bit because of the angle, but i’ll finish up quickly.”
he scrunches your hair up, careful not to accidently tug, causing drops of water to trickle down his arm. he continues doing this all over, all the way up into the roots. you notice how loose ringlets of curls form as he lets go.
when he finishes, he mutters a quick drying spell, one that when you use leaves your hair a frizzy mess but when he does, it looks fine. maybe those strange vials contributed to that.
he stands and raises you up with him. he's still in front of you so it obstructs your view of the mirror. he sneaks his fingers in and shakes through your hair, to give it more volume, he confirms later.
finally, stepping aside, you see yourself. he's stood beside you, with a somewhat smug look on his face, as you admire your hair. the waves are defined and remind you of your hair when you're at the beach, only healthier and more hydrated.
“thanks,” you chirp, offering him a small appreciative smile.
he brushes it off with a wink, returning your smile, “you've got great hair, you should let me style it more often.”

I have been having... a very bad day. Any spare fluffy headcanons for the boys? (and maybe some nsfw ones if you're up to it-)
ohh no my dear helena !!! its unfortunate that you’re having a rough day today :( remember that everything is temporary and that this day, like every other hard day before (and all following after), will pass in its own time.
i can absolutely spare some fluff ! that’s all i’ve got !
• javier goes to bed at about the same time that kieran is waking up every morning, right before dawn, and it’s a common occurrence that he will forget to untie his hair before laying down for bed, especially after a long night of guard duty. kieran will notice every time, and knows himself how easily long hair can get matted, so he will beckon javier over so that he can untie his bow. usually, he’ll also take the time to run his fingers through javier’s hair to detangle it as well, so that he’s even less likely to wake up to knots. javier adores it, teetering with the weight of his head and leaning hard into kieran’s legs on each side of his shoulders- sometimes kieran will even indulge himself in giving javier a head massage. javier never sleeps better, and coincidentally, he began forgetting to take his hair down a lot more after moving out to clemen’s point ….
• javier snuck kieran his first bowl of pearson’s stew after ‘making a social call’. john kicked kieran off his horse at the entrance of camp and javier watched as the latter dredged himself through the brush to what would become his usual resting place behind the rock by the horses. he looked miserable, dead on his feet, and javier knew by then he’d been weeks without a meal. he was a dirty, disloyal, unholy traitor of an o’driscoll, but something about his sunken eyes, the shake in his hand as he lit his first cigarette as a free man again- likely to quell off the hunger- it urged javier to act in a way that he’d never felt before. javier could kill a man in cold blood easier than he could stand to watch fear starve a man even after his hands are free to reach for the bowl. the study for learned helplessness in psychology will come years later, but javier understands himself now through watching kieran’s instinctual desire to survive be beat out of him by the gang javier dedicates his life to. with a healthy amount of spite to himself, he scoops a heaping amount of fresh stew into the cleanest bowl he can find, and sets out to add a fresh layer of flesh to kieran’s prominent bones.
• following this, cooking for kieran is one of javier’s favourite things to do when they get together. javier will cook for him traditional mexican dishes from home (as best he can. both with his limited skills and also with his limited accessibility to the proper ingredients. (probably for the best that he can’t get authentic chili peppers from home and has to use a less spicy chili native to this northern climate. kieran does okay with spice but it isn’t in his genetics to truly have a high tolerance.)) and not only will it be an unknown love language from javier, to feed kieran and make sure he is full, but it will also be a love language from kieran, to let javi share a piece of home with him.
• ^ also applies to modern au javieran ! javier loves cooking, and especially for kieran. they would cook together, but kieran struggles to cook with other people in the room, and javier gets so absorbed in it that he’d likely be running into kieran or otherwise being unhelpful in aiding in making sure the dish is being cooked correctly because he’s too Locked In to guide kieran LOL but they’re more happy to simply keep each other company, anyway. kieran on the counter/table/floor, watching javier sing and dance to the music he’s blasting from their speaker. cue dancing in the kitchen when the love songs come on (here’s a good one (rip javier escuella you would have loved dannylux)). the parallel play and quality time with these two is off the charts
• come mid/late clemens point, the way javieran make most of their money for the camp is by going on days-long fishing dates, laughing and laying close to one another in the grass under a tree on the riverbank in the shroud of darkness. they come back to camp flushed as all get out but with stacks of cash in their hands wadded up so thick no one dares to ask where it came from. kieran will get excited at even the smallest of fish, perking up and sharing/asking javier for tidbits on the species. they never miss a bite, either. one time one of the bells on their bobber rods rang once and they both broke out of a very hot and heavy make-out sesh so fast that javier tripped on kieran and nearly broke both of their wrists. they laughed so hard about it, javier was certain that by the time he arrived to his rod, the fish had already successfully ripped the bait off of his hook. he reeled in a boot, at the end of it all. he never lives it down.
• kieran is ambidextrous, and javier is fascinated by it. javier stumbled upon kieran writing on one rare occasion, and noticed immediately that he was writing with his left. “left handed, huh ?” kieran cocks his head at him in thought. javier wonders why on earth he would have to stop and think about a question like that. “uhh, not really ?” well, now javier is simply confused. “right, then ? is something wrong with your dominant hand ?” “um … no, that’s not it either …” and at this point, javier is demanding kieran explain what the hell he’s talking about, and why he’s pulling a prank on him. cue kieran explaining and javier making him do all kinds of silly “tests” like writing, shooting, playing guitar (as if kieran is going to any better with either when neither of them can do it right to begin with) because he finds it so cool.
• modern au kieran gets overstimulated incredibly easily, so he’s got a pair of noise canceling over-ear headphones that he often wears to dampen sensory input and ground himself when there’s a lot going on. when it’s cleaning day, generally no matter what he’s doing, he HAS to wear his headphones. javier is left to dodge him the same way he has to dodge the cats when they’re weaving in and out of between his feet. it also leaves him to dance to his own tunes when kieran suddenly swoops or sways or dips him to the music only he can hear- though just as often, javier will catch kieran dancing by himself and he will simply be unable not to join him, even though he can’t hear what it is he’s dancing to. as overwhelming as they can be, cleaning days for javieran somehow always end up feeling more like a date than anything.
• on a similar note, kieran also wears his headphones to bed, and listens to asmr/white noise to sleep. the pressure helps him feel safe, and the silence of a room makes him anxious. he also has a terrible bedhead and rbf in the morning. both of these things javier finds incredibly charming, and if he ever does wake up when/before kieran does (incredibly rare), this is his pov (right before he tries to kiss kieran’s face off and gets shoved away with a sleepy giggle that only bolsters his aggression);
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/42897d2032ff9fc2953c25d70e5d3f91/599d38cfa6fbcdbe-48/s540x810/9c7a980687dd0f3cb0b4d94a2334f4e33f4b7f7f.jpg)
nsfw under the cut !
and how could i resist a chance to finally talk about this ;3€ ?? i’ll try to keep them fluffy !
(context, i hc both of them as tguys usually (though im content with writing javier as amab too), with both of them being absolute, unabashed switches. they have little preferences anywhere in terms of bottoming/topping, though kieran has a preference for subbing, and javier has no qualms with domming more frequently.)
• as much raunchy, animalistic sex that javieran have, they have double as much slow, loving, tender sex. and most times between, they’re having raunchy, loving, animalistic sex.
• javi loves to turn kieran’s brain off, he loves more than anything to make kieran feel so overwhelmingly pleasured that he forgets everything that ever has, ever could, or ever will happen to him. nothing gets javier off quite like seeing the face of bliss kieran makes when all he can think about is javier’s mouth/hands/cock working overtime just to make him feel good.
• both of them i think are quite vocal when they’re able to be, and kieran tends to be vocal whether he’s supposed to be or not. both of them often dissolve into whimpers and “i love you”s and praise like “you feel/sound/taste so good” by the end. their love for each other has a carnal grasp on every aspect of their sex lives as well <3 so they’re always speaking so sweetly to each other, even if the way they growl it seems violent
• javier LOVES love bites. he loves to mark kieran up and he especially loves to bite and lick and suck on his neck, not only because of the primal aspect of his jugular being so close (as well as the warmth of his pulse thrumming against his mouth), but also because it arouses kieran to the point of making him shiver nearly every time. javier has permission to bite him hard, but it’s pretty rare that he ever does, and it’s only late into their relationship does javier feel like it will be more pleasure for him than it would just be pain. sometimes he can’t help it though, he’ll get so worked up that he just latches on and the way that kieran tightens around him is mind-numbing.
• unironically i think kieran is a GREAT soft dom, and that is something that javier generally had never experienced prior to getting with kieran. javi thinks it’s hot to be man-handled and roughed up, and kieran can do his very best (despite the constant guilt and fear) if javier is really feeling it, but where he really excels is soft domming. once the nerves melt off, he’s so gentle with javier that it makes the latter’s skin hot all over. constantly praising him, cooing at him, asking him nicely, rewarding him for good behavior, all the while touching him oh-so-gently, it all makes javier feel so awkward but so, so good. kieran makes him feel so loved and worshipped that the world in which he has anything to question simply just fades away, and all he has to think about is doing what meager tasks kieran asks of him.
• they find so much peace in each other’s bodies. in every rib and wrinkle and sunspot, these two will spend hours simply exploring and enjoying the body of the other in whatever the closest form of “privacy” they can manage to acquire. turns out, kieran has sunspots all over him. turns out, javier has a keloid scar on the back of his bicep. turns out, kieran has a mole on his scalp right where his part is (this is canon btw i saw it once when i was studying him in photo mode like a specimen in a petri dish), and javier has back dimples, and kieran’s ribs stutter and dance beautifully when he laughs, and the flex of javier’s thighs warps his skin like a marble statue. javier escuella and kieran duffy love like artists, and they spend hours just learning and looking and studying each other, like a painter with his muse, like a writer with his words, like the last things they want to see while they’re dying are all the hours they spent learning the beauty of the other.
i could honestly come up with more but it would never leave my drafts, so i hope u like these that i came up with as quick as i could :’) ! i hope you’re feeling better and have gotten some good rest !! thank you for the ask !!!!!
#thank you for always coming to chat with me :’) especially on a hard day. i hope you know you are appreciated no matter how you feel and#that you do good things for people’s lives every day. even if you don’t know it or notice or if they don’t tell you. your existence inherent#ly makes the world a better place#and i can say that with confidence because you do it for me every time you come to say hello or share my love for javieran :’) i do hope#you’re feeling much better today ! i apologize for this post taking so long. i struggle a lot with coming up with things without prompt and#i also had a friend over so it took me a little while to come up with anything i thought was worth reading about !#i love them :’) thank you for giving me the chance to talk about them a bit ! i need to actually write them soon …….. they are so special to#me waugh#i usually have lots to say in the tags but i truly used the entirety of my last braincell for this so that’s all i’ve got for now </3#i love you ! be well ! make sure you’re eating and drinking lots of water !!!#rdr2#red dead redemption 2#kieran duffy#javier escuella#javieran#text#art#kinda i guess#hero draws sometimes#hero more like shakespeare#hero’s javier#hero’s kieran#hero’s javieran#ask#hero's yelling at folks again#galacta-phantasma#i think that’s it. lord. now i’m going to run on the treadmill for 10 hours ! bye !

I'm thinking of getting one of those robot vacuums, but don't know how to start picking the right one. Do you have opinions on the matter? Do you like yours, and if so, what model is it?
I have a Xiaomi S10 EU, which is a midrange model that I think is now discontinued in favour of the S20? Xiaomi does a pretty good job with their designs, my family have various Xiaomi models that all work fine. Roborock is another brand I've heard good things about, and they're an offshoot of Xiaomi and seem to be where a lot of design innovation is so presumably that's a good sign. I assume iRobot is still making Roombas but I've never used a Roomba.
(The craziest new stuff from Roborock includes a robot arm for picking up and moving small objects out of the way? Crazy, you can now teach stabby to thrust!)
A few notes
1) They work best if you can keep your floor clear and generally free of small objects, and obviously don't navigate stairs and steps well. My apartment has very little stuff on the floor, and all my cables and wires are tucked into corners and along skirtings. If your wife has filled your house with chintz you may have a hard time getting a robot around on the floor.
Robovacs love to eat bag straps and shoelaces and charging cords, so if you tend to have those laying around on the floor and don't have the wherewithal to clear them up, you'll probably spend a lot of time untangling things from the brush.
2) They can handle most area rugs, but not all, e.g. it handles my thin cotton living room rug with short tassels without an issue but I have to move my thick kitchen floor mat out of the way or it'll eat the longer, thicker tassels. You can mark areas as no-vacuum zones if this isn't your bag.
3) Definitely spring for one with at least LiDAR, which you can see by the little stick-up lighthouse module on the top that houses the LiDAR module. Without LiDAR the robot has to just bump around semi-randomly to navigate, which is slow and inaccurate. It can build a map but the map is very poor and it barely knows where it is.
With LiDAR it knows exactly where it is, because it knows where it isn't. The very newest and most expensive bots do away with rotary LiDAR and just use forward looking cameras and 3D depth sensors to do VSLAM but if you're going for that price range from a big manufacturer you'll probably be fine. Most companies list their sensors on their site, but they often use weird names so it can be hard to tell.
(see above, with and without a LiDAR tower. Some very new models can retract the LiDAR tower to go under low furniture.)
4) You can cover a lot of house without needing the self-emptying base stations even if you run it regularly, I'd say probably around 200m² in a fairly ordinary dust environment. In my 50m² apartment I run it at least every weekday and empty out the integrated dust container once a week and that's usually fine, and I don't have any particular air filtration running, but I do keep the windows mostly closed when I can.
5) Speaking of maintenance, I don't use the mop feature on mine but it does keep your floors cleaner while requiring more attention to be paid to water levels. I'm actually going to try using mine more now and see how that goes. This is one thing where I think the stations might make sense even for a pretty small apartment. My brother uses the mop feature on his all the time and he likes it.
6) General maintenance: not that much! It'll buzz you on your phone when it thinks a component has hit end of life but so far I don't think anyone is using DRM to force you to use first-party parts or making you throw away things that are working, you can just manually reset the timers, although so far when the warnings do come up I tend to agree that it's time to replace a part.
You have to empty out the dust and change the water, and if it eats something you might spend a few minutes detangling the rotating brushes. The brushes will get knotted with hair and need cleaning every couple weeks to months depending on how much hair and how long it is, but most models come with a little knife tool for cutting the hair. Never tried the models that advertise that they don't get tangled.
7) Bonus nerd shit you probably shouldn't do. If you really do not want your Robovac connecting to the cloud, there's some work on developing self-hosted management servers that you can point a rooted robot at, and of course you can root your vacuum cleaner, because it's just an embedded Linux box on wheels. The open source management server software is called Valetudo.

The hardest question
The most difficult question I get is "How do you make them look so nice?" because that's kind of broad and it's a whole process that differs depending on what each pony needs.
I've been trying to think of the best way to answer, and at first thought I'd need to make a flow chart.
I think maybe talking through the process as though I had a pony that needed EVERYTHING, would work, too.
So I'll try.
Let's assume I've bought a pony on eBay to clean and resell. This pony is filthy, has rust and/or mildew inside the body, has smooze, has matted hair, is missing some plugs from her mane, and is missing some paint.
When I get the pony, I take it downstairs to my photo taking spot and photograph the left side, right side, and any other areas that I think are worthy of taking pics.
Then they go for a bath immediately. Because ew.
A bath consists of:
scrubbing all over the body with a damp melamine sponge - this releases dirt from the vinyl and quickly exposes which marks are removable and which are stains, be gentle where there is paint
assessing the pony's needs
[dish] soap and water wash for body and hair
I do not ever throw ponies in a sink full of water and it stresses me out when I see people do that.
Ponies then get laid out to dry and after that go into holding bins depending on what they need.
At this point I usually take the phone upstairs, transfer the before photos to the computer, ID the ponies, label and date individual folders for their photos. I'm usually working on lots of ponies all at once and this forces me to sit down and take a break.
So, in order, they would go through these stations, which I do give silly names:
interior rust and/or mildew removal (derustbutting), which does require derusting the tails and is when I replace metal washers with nylon ties
depending on how matted and tangled the tail is, I may detangle it a bit during bath time with a metal dog comb so that it's smaller and better fits through the tail hole, this also helps with removing rust from the tail hair
smooze remooze which consists of soaking a pony in hot oxy-clean water (do not do this with princess ponies it ruins the metal plating on their 3D cutie marks), and aggressively scraping dirt from the vinyl's airbubbles
let dry completely inside and out
stain or yellowing treatment using 40Vol hydrogen peroxide cream and UV exposure (SunBox) which can take overnight to weeks and often needs reapplication of the cream
rewashing to remove 40Vol cream
waiting to dry fully inside before the tail is reinstalled (3 to 4 days)
temporary tail and head reinstallation
the hair is rewetted and slathered in a heavy smoosh of hair conditioner, then laid on a towel so that the hair is away from the body because conditioner can discolor vinyl if left touching in big globs
the conditioner is left to sit a while (I tend to leave it overnight but that's not necessary, it just forces me to take a break)
after the conditioner has set and softened the hair, they get a good rinse
thoroughly comb the hair with the dog comb, and then again with a flea comb to get all of the tangles out
flat iron
at this point I can wait for the hair to dry and then take off the head and tail again, re"open" the tail, and take some hairs for their mane
plug in those hairs, apply Fabric Fusion (I like it because it's a thick gel), and let that dry
final reinstallation of the head and tail are done when the glue is all dry
assess the hair: does it need conditioned and flat ironed again?
we'll assume yes, so repeat the wetting
repeat the conditioning
repeat the rinsing
repeat the flat ironing
let it dry again because we're going to do hot-setting and I prefer to do that dry
do a "wrap and set" which is where I will wrap the pony's hair around their neck and back leg, wrap a strip of paper towel over that, and a bit of tape, or put in straw curlers
put them in a plastic baggie so they don't get wet, put the baggie in a big bowl with the open end hanging over the side, heat up a kettle of water, pour that into the bowl, and cover it all with a bar towel
wait at least until the water has cooled on it's own (this is another time I tend to leave it overnight)
take them out of the baggie (set it aside, you can reuse it until it leaks)
take them over to the painting station and do my best to match both the color and placement of the missing paint
let that sit overnight
seal the paint
let that sit overnight, too
take off the curlers/wraps (the longer you wait, the better the shape will hold) and make sure their hair is photo ready
take pics of the left side, the right side, and the bottoms of the feet because buyers like to know exactly what they're getting
edit pics, make collages, queue to here, etc. etc. list on eBay and hope for the best
That last part isn't really related to making them look nice, it's just part of the process for the hypothetical pony.
Hopefully you can see why it's difficult for me to answer "How do you make them look so nice?"

now i’m thinking about hair. i never had black friends growing up. didn’t have a black classmate until freshman of high school, then moved to a different school with no black students in sophomore year. hell i didn’t even have black online friends. now i have more black online friends (i don’t leave the house so black irls is tricky) and even THEN im not very close to them.
so my experience with my blackness has been centered by my family. my dads side is the worst cause my grandma hated black hair (given she grew up when our hair was called nappy and messy). she always complained when i wore it naturally. insulted me and constantly questioned when i’d get it “fixed”. my mom is from the islands so she appreciates it. she doesn’t understand how americans do their afros tho (she kinda just wets the hair and add oil and call it a day. no shaping or anything). i think my sister and cousin are the only ones who know how to take care of our hair! they both keep theirs really short.
i really like color and longer hair. i despise wearing wigs and weaves aren’t for me. it’s either dying my natural hair or braided extensions/other styles like locs or twists etc. i prolly do have more options but my mom does my hair.
it’s so fascinating to think about how other people get their hair done. friends always tell me about how they got their hair cut, dyed and fixed up in salons and barbers. it’s so fascinating and it’s like. a few hour process!! or less!! mine is like a whole weekend thing. never is a one day thing. never. cut the braids shorter, take the braids out, detangle then wash well, and prepare to braid. that alone takes most the day for me. plus my mom does it alone 9/10 of the time. she works on her feet all day so she needs more breaks, we don’t have good spots to have us both sitting while she does it, and taking out my own hair is awful and nearly impossible. do you know how tiring it is to fiddle with the top of your head for hours? that’s a whole workout right there! i can only do so much!
by the time my hair is washed and detangled again i’m exhausted. so is my mom. we usually continue it for the next day. preparing my hair and then braiding. i never learned to braid when i was younger so learning now isn’t ideal on my own head. but my mom and sister help which im so grateful for. i used to be so tender headed when i was little but my mom stopped yanking my hair as hard and now i can handle it better. a lot of my memories are sitting in the chair in front of my mom, me sleeping or on my laptop/listening to music on my phone, while my mom watches her shows. i have thick tight curls and my hair is getting longer each time i take out my braids (which is good since my hair had grown super slow my whole life. i blame all the relaxing and straightening). so getting each braid in is hell.
of course it’s also being braided with the fake hair. whatever color i wanted, and now im getting more creative with the styles! making bangs or putting beads or leaving the ends open or braiding all the way down with charms and stuff. it’s the best way i can do to express myself! it’s my hair! it takes time and effort and work to get my hair done. i’m stuck with it for a while so i better like how it ends! having my hair braided makes my life so much easier, especially since i’ve had depression since 10 years old. it’s been a struggle to take care of myself at all, so having the huge HUGE possibility of my hair getting knotted and matted and dirty was also right around the corner. braiding has been my savior.
not sure what this post is but i like talking about my hair :3 don’t get a lot of chances too. i never realized how much my hair means to me.
#yeah#it’s 4am rn i’m just thinking a lot#flojouno#text#black hair#also learning to draw my hair has been AWFUL growing up#no easily accessible tutorials#if you didn’t have straight or wavy or curly you were fucked#tight curls? you better run cause no one’s helping you#braids? locs? good fucking luck#i’m happy there’s more resources now! plus there’s custom brushes!#also the different hairstyles you can do with black hair is amazing#i just never understand how other cultures take these hairstyles and act weird#like yeah they look cool but they mean something to us#it’s not a simple aesthetic thing.#anyways yeah i should go back to sleep gnnnn#4c hair

HAIR EXTENSIONS: THE SECRET OF EVERYDAY THIN TO THICK HAIR
What is Hair Extension ?
Hair extensions are artificial or human hair strands that are attached to a person's natural hair to make it look longer, thicker, or fuller. They are available in a wide variety of colors, textures, and lengths, and can be applied using a variety of methods. Hair extensions are a popular way to achieve long, luxurious hair without having to wait for it to grow naturally. They can also be used to add volume and thickness to thin or fine hair. Hair extensions can be applied temporarily or semi-permanently. Temporary extensions, such as clip-ins and tape-ins, can be easily removed at home. Semi-permanent extensions, such as fusion and weave, are attached to the natural hair with glue or beads and can last for several months.

Types of Hair Extensions :
There are many different types of hair extensions available.
Human hair extensions:
These are the most expensive type of hair extension, but they also look and feel the most natural.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/c534534a3679f8e149aadf7134193628/2859558e13d20be5-cc/s540x810/355eb20db10d495f51ff149045050f40ba348e96.jpg)
Synthetic hair extensions:
These are less expensive than human hair extensions, but they may not look as natural.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/eba16fe716cfa93af858cf23f89266e9/2859558e13d20be5-1b/s540x810/70439d4de22bf348836a505dcbeb8a0321e32120.jpg)
Mixed human and synthetic hair extensions:
These are a good compromise between price and quality.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/f78a338b2ce3f8edf7dbadb10f8341c1/2859558e13d20be5-ae/s540x810/df74eb5b981042ffe2812625f14e9f8c1100ce66.jpg)
Remy hair extensions:
These are human hair extensions that have all the cuticles running in the same direction, which makes them less likely to tangle.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/4e9dcce4b7c64f37db73303e411f995b/2859558e13d20be5-fb/s540x810/b484fe07ed6432a4e83550430fb5f157618d4d60.jpg)
Non-Remy hair extensions:
These are human hair extensions that do not have all the cuticles running in the same direction, which can make them prone to tangling
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/ae902f09165fe65d569a88f86a015268/2859558e13d20be5-ae/s540x810/1ddd33c35ddc99307f55b1fc944ed63ce227c526.webp)
Methods for Hair Extension:
There are many different methods for applying hair extensions in a salon. Some of the most popular methods include:
Tape-in hair extensions:
They are one of the most popular methods because they are easy to apply and remove, and they can be blended well with natural hair. Tape-in extensions are applied by sandwiching a small section of natural hair between two thin strips of tape. The tape is then pressed onto the natural hair to create a secure bond.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/b91eeffcc95ecc6de632a00689f4e945/2859558e13d20be5-07/s540x810/136ea53fe84af182f77fb9c15d605dad6bae9f23.jpg)
Fusion hair extensions:
They are another popular method that is very durable and can last for several months. Fusion extensions are applied by attaching individual strands of hair to the natural hair using a heat tool. The heat tool melts a small keratin tip at the end of the extension, which is then fused to the natural hair.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/0f914c68d27729784ac7a329bda18f0b/2859558e13d20be5-cb/s540x810/c86e080483de22489aa2ce3a1ad7c25b7fbf2344.jpg)
Micro-bead hair extensions:
They are also very popular because they are small and lightweight, and they can be applied to very fine hair. Micro-bead extensions are applied by attaching individual strands of hair to the natural hair using tiny metal beads. The beads are then crimped down to secure the extension in place.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/ca10e868e1377daa98d6feed322fca9b/2859558e13d20be5-e9/s540x810/a987aef071f2d378cbbc83b6eec4e0e6d2a13b05.jpg)
Sew-in hair extensions:
They are a more traditional method that is still popular today. Sew-in extensions are applied by weaving rows of hair extensions into the natural hair. This method is very secure and can last for several months. However, it can also be more time-consuming and expensive than other methods.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/e2816d10586fcdffd7c967b35d774f39/2859558e13d20be5-0a/s540x810/a7394285c5dda053c8c8d792de2e524aa5532fac.jpg)
Clip-in hair extensions:
They are a temporary method that is perfect for adding length and volume for a special occasion. Clip-in extensions are simply clipped into the natural hair. They are very easy to apply and remove, and they can be reused multiple times.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/8fc652da7771a52883d349c3121af8bc/2859558e13d20be5-46/s540x810/d3d01db98303a06d2620e9d98294d39d2716b20a.jpg)
The best method for you will depend on your individual hair type and needs. If you are unsure which method is right for you, it is always best to consult with our professional hair stylist.
Maintenance of hair extensions
Proper maintenance is essential to keep your hair extensions looking their best and lasting as long as possible. Here are some general tips for maintaining your hair extensions:
Brush your hair regularly.
Brushing helps to remove tangles and mats, which can cause breakage and damage to the extensions. Use a wide-tooth comb or a detangling brush to gently brush your hair from the ends to the roots.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/5ee7ddd6b98240e3e2135809520f5f52/2859558e13d20be5-4c/s540x810/2f8e7b822cea1891a67c67d350c33047dd414e8f.jpg)
Wash your hair regularly.
Over-washing can strip your hair extensions of their natural oils, so it's important to wash them only when they are dirty. Use a sulfate-free shampoo and conditioner that is specifically designed for hair extensions.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/f01e74bfc90532ea1413269ab1174ada/2859558e13d20be5-86/s540x810/42868aaf7df358577d8cfbf994228b97a2c28d6a.jpg)
Avoid heat styling.
Heat styling can damage your hair extensions, so it's best to avoid it as much as possible. If you must use heat styling tools, use a heat protectant spray and keep the heat setting on low.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/e4be347a3f0a05bce4d7b70640038443/2859558e13d20be5-c9/s540x810/0eec1166872f0c518f581d881ef4743efd2bb2a7.jpg)
Protect your hair from the sun.
The sun's rays can fade and damage your hair extensions, so it's important to protect them when you're outdoors. Wear a hat or scarf to cover your hair, or use a UV protectant spray.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/73de15746670d5d3aee752f9aa4d4278/2859558e13d20be5-2f/s540x810/941c93b51cf9883f9dd836794a0ca3537ff834df.jpg)
Sleep on a silk or satin pillowcase.
This will help to reduce friction and prevent your hair extensions from tangling and matting while you sleep.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/6111555b44a9a2d1630336f994aa1810/2859558e13d20be5-32/s540x810/b570eeffe8a582ce988950ffecbe16fbdebefd8d.jpg)
Get regular maintenance appointments.
It's important to get your hair extensions checked and maintained by a professional stylist every 6-8 weeks. This will help to ensure that your extensions are looking their best and lasting as long as possible.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/7240c1f045d02538eb0b975070c231d3/2859558e13d20be5-a7/s540x810/07febdfb180ad3db069165b916db7306306eb3db.jpg)
Additionally there are some specific things you can do to maintain different types of hair extensions. For example, if you have tape-in extensions, you'll need to avoid washing your hair too often, as this can loosen the tape and cause the extensions to fall out. And if you have sew-in extensions, you'll need to be careful not to pull on them too hard, as this can damage the stitches and cause the extensions to come out.

⸻@kinglyisms Toshiro & Artem.
"Things with the Pack are a bit complicated, as I'm sure you've noticed." Toshiro stated, moving around the desk in his office toward the filing cabinet in the back. He opened it open and dug around a moment before fetching out the map of the forest. He carried it over to his desk and moved things out of the way before unrolling it and spreading it out. He weighed the corners down with the various things on his desk and then rested his hands against the edge of it. "My--father died. He got very sick, it was incurable, and he passed away two years ago." Toshiro had not taken his death well, but he got there with Elliot's help. "He was a great leader for the Pack. Brave, strong, tall and wellbuilt. When you think Werewolf my father would fit that image." A soft smile spreads across his face before it falls off. "Apparently, those genes skipped me. I take more after my mother." A woman he didn't meet. "My father didn't get to teach me a lot of what he needed to, and as a result I don't--know a lot." He picks his head up and motions toward one of the big, very full bookshelves in the room. "I try to read what I can on Werewolves and Packs to make up for that." Toshiro is doing his best, he wants to be a good leader. It just wasn't easy when you didn't have anyone to learn from. "Anyway, the Pack doesn't really--respect me I guess. At least not all of them. A good majority does, but there are those who don't." He shrugs a bit, pretending it wasn't bothering him. It does. "So, here's the map of the forest." He grabbed a coin and placed it down. "This is where our Pack Houses sit, take a look and see where you want to place yours."
There are times Artem often forgets how new and exciting it could be to be an Alpha. He hasn’t really wanted a pack, though he had gotten it by simply being himself. Leaning into nature his mother should have taught his sister but taught him instead.
How to cook.
How to clean.
How to care for people.
All while his father raged upon his sister and made her a nightmare.
She hadn’t wanted this position anyway either. Some how though, they did it together. Fixed the missed pieces each other needed to create a strong pack. Even if some were disjointed and bad.
Artem loved every bond he had, every person who came through his door.
This is why sitting in Toshiro's office he found himself wanting to give the other whatever he needed. Money. Advice. Love. A home-cooked meal. Whatever he needed Artem would provide it.
“When I think of a werewolf I think of cunning. I think of grace, a quick mind and I think of family. I don’t think of a big strong man or woman. Those things are, pointless if you are backed against a wall on your own Toshiro. An animal or person hurt and backed against a wall will eat its own self to protect itself or get away cleanly. Even if it hurts them.” He glanced at the books feeling at home with them. “Someone with family, a quick mind, they don’t need brute strength. They need the support.”
Artem was giving out advice someone once told him. Someone special to him. Lachlan wasn’t a father but he was the only person Artem and Katia had to point them in the direction of being good and fair leaders. Though he wasn’t going to tell Toshiro stories he didn’t care about.
“I am sorry about your father. Losing someone you love leaves a hole you can’t fix.” He looks at Toshiro, really looks at the other, he was wearing his glasses today, the heart-shaped ones sitting upon his mat of blonde hair he had tied back to keep from overheating himself. He was dressed down more than normal, gray sweatpants and a short-sleeved forest green shirt were all he needed, even if that was a little warmer for him.
Though he didn't want to be shirtless in Toshiro's office. The last thing he was going to do was show off his scars.
“You can learn a lot from books and others. Use your resources.” He offers looking away as the coin comes into view. He detangled his glasses from his hair, wearing them as he looked close.
RESPECT. Red-brown eyes snapped back to Toshiro's face upon hearing the mumble of people not respecting him. Artem could fix that, but he didn’t want to fight the other's battles but a couple well-placed words and maybe he could give those pack members a piece of his mind. The other didn’t have to know.
Taking his glasses off and placing them back on top of his head he stood up leaning close enough to Toshiro to brush his fingers over the others before tracing the map. Moving around the coin thinking about where he would want the house set up.
“Is there a place you would suggest?” Artem values the other's opinion. He obviously wouldn’t do anything without Consulting his sister or the pack but a couple good ideas would be nice.

Her hair is still a little messy and matted, and he is no specialist, but Swain does his best to brush the long red locks with care, detangling them patiently and rubbing some specialty oil into her hair to help it heal, as he was advised at the shop when he had gone out to buy supplies his young guest would be needing in the near future.
Leftovers of dinner ordered for two, still sit on the table, and a forgotten movie on the tv is murmuring in the background.
Dark forest expanding behind the mansion seems to have caught the girl’s attention and Swain wonders what’s on her mind, sitting behind her in a velvet chair, while Katarina sits on the floor, cradling a mug of warm tea, while Swain does her hair for the night.
“There’s an old legend that a terrible demon lives in that forest.” Swain noted with a faint smile, thinking back on the memories of his childhood. “It scared a lot of my peers into returning home before dark, but yours truly was determined to find it.”
“I searched for it many times, unsuccessfully, of course, until one day I got lost and wandered the woods until nighttime, scaring my family and having a search launched after me. I was found, eventually, of course, unharmed but terrified.”
He chuckles at the thought of the memory, reminded of how bravely he had stepped into the forest and how undignified he had ended his little expedition, crying for his mother.
“I kept hearing wild animals and sounds of nature and jumping at every noise, thinking the demon must have be near-by. I even swore I saw a tall lanky figure appear and vanish in the darkness, resembling a scarecrow, but of course it was merely my imagination running wild out of fear.”
“My studies could be dull and lonely. I suppose a young mind craves excitement and adventure.”
He dries her hair off with a towel and gives the now silky red locks another brush, before being satisfied with the result.
“You are much braver than I. You survived many nights filled with terrors you had to withstand on your own. I can give you the tools necessary so you may never suffer fear, again.”
— @visionoxus
Katarina finds the quiet as comforting as it is unsettling.
The house isn't completely silent, though the movie in the background has long since become white noise. But here, in the middle of nowhere, there is a darkness city lights have yet to breach, a calmness undisturbed by incessant traffic or the chatter of a passerby.
The first night, she had taken note of the quickest escape route, the most easily reachable objects that may be used as weapons; he had not given her reason to distrust him, yet distrust she did. It was a comfort, to have a roof over her head, to have food and a warm bed, but she would not give anything for it. Were she willing to pay any price, she would have stayed in her gilded cage, to suffer mother's control and father's abuse, until he eventually left her dead rather than scarred, that is. But she didn't leave to submit to anyone else, and she is only tentatively trusting, despite everything Swain continues to do for her.
It's been some time, now. Not long, really, but enough she allows him to brush her hair, sitting on the floor with her knees pressed against her chest. The tea is barely sipped, though its warmth against her cold hands is comforting. There had been nights she would've killed for a little bit of warmth. There had been others she longed for nothing more than the care he now easily offers.
Her long hair would be rather cut short, she considers, at least for a time. It would be a nice change, too — it's just like his hair, a fact everyone always pointed out to her before, and Katarina wants to be nothing like Marcus anymore.
As her gaze wanders to the forest, it is him she thinks of. Her own personal monster, still haunting her dreams; she doesn't expect father would ever bother to know if she's alive, much less to look for her (glimpses at newspapers and TV news denounced mother, at least, seemed to pretend to care). And yet, in her nightmares, it is always him the monster, the one she can neither outrun nor defeat. She loathes the helplessness; the inability to fight back.
It made her fearless, in a way, reckless perhaps, but undaunted nonetheless. Katarina thinks whatever inhabits the sinister woods couldn't be scarier than the monster she had faced at home, than surviving on her own for what time she had been on the streets. The most important lesson, however, had been learned: fear was how they controlled her, the most powerful and dangerous tool Marcus Du Couteau had employed. It would never work again, she had promised herself the night she left; she would not fear them nor anyone, nor anything.
And so the tale does not frighten her, even as he speaks of the demon in the wood, even as she looks at the forest outside with newfound interest (at least a demon had reason to be terrible, she imagines; she can respect that more than a father). The girl snorts as Swain tells of his misadventure and how it ended, rarity that it has been for her to laugh, though she continues to be silent as the story comes to a close.
Katarina stretches her legs as he dries her hair, the cup of tea, now mostly empty, carefully set down on the floor beside her. And then he speaks again, about her, this time, and she turns to face him, uncertain where this is supposed to go. Emerald eyes light up at that offer, eager and fierce — and it is only the lingering mistrust that prevents her from saying yes, please, I would do anything to not have to be afraid again.
"You would?" is the question posed, skittish still. Fear is a powerful tool; to make her capable of facing it would be to relinquish a means to keep her under control (and men seem to ever want anything but). "Really?"
"I want to learn." I want to make sure the next time someone tries to hurt me, they'll be the ones afraid, instead.
#» in character — ⌜the sinister blade.⌟#visionoxus#wah she just got a new dad#this is how he was adopted#swain said 'i don't want to keep you afraid i'll give you the tools to fight back'#and suddenly katarina had a father again#» verse — ⌜riot records.⌟

Golden Retrievers are famous for their friendly temperament, boundless energy, and gorgeous, flowing coats. However, maintaining that signature look takes more than just the occasional bath. Regular grooming is key to keeping your Golden healthy, comfortable, and looking their best. Whether you're a new pet parent or a seasoned dog owner, choosing the right grooming tools can be challenging. In this guide, we share expert picks and practical advice for the best grooming tools, ensuring that every session is a bonding experience that benefits both you and your furry friend.
Why Grooming Your Golden Retriever Matters
Before diving into the expert picks for grooming tools, it’s important to understand the benefits of regular grooming for Golden Retrievers. Health and Hygiene Benefits - Enhanced Coat Health: Brushing distributes natural oils that keep the coat soft, shiny, and less prone to dryness. - Reduced Shedding: Regular grooming helps remove loose hair, significantly reducing the fur left around your home. - Prevention of Mats and Tangles: Especially with a double coat, consistent grooming prevents painful mats and knots that can lead to skin irritation. - Early Detection of Health Issues: Grooming sessions offer an opportunity to check for skin irritations, lumps, or parasites before they become serious. Behavioral and Emotional Benefits - Bonding Time: Grooming creates a calm, interactive space where you can build trust with your pet. - Stress Relief: Many dogs find gentle brushing and massaging soothing, which can help reduce anxiety. - Routine and Predictability: Regular grooming routines help establish a sense of security and stability for your Golden. These benefits underscore the importance of investing in quality grooming tools that not only enhance your pet’s appearance but also contribute to their overall well-being.
Expert Picks: Top Grooming Tools for Your Golden Retriever
Our expert picks for the best grooming tools are based on professional groomer recommendations, veterinarian insights, and feedback from countless Golden Retriever owners. Here, we break down each tool, explain why it's essential, and offer practical tips on how to use it effectively. 1. The Slicker Brush: A Must-Have for Daily Grooming Why Experts Love It: The slicker brush is a staple in any Golden Retriever grooming kit. Its fine, short wires are designed to penetrate the thick, double coat, detangling and removing loose hair with minimal discomfort. Key Features: - Fine Bristles: Ideal for removing tangles and preventing mats. - Ergonomic Handle: Designed for comfortable, extended use. - Versatility: Works well on both wet and dry coats. How to Use: - Start at the Head: Begin brushing at your dog’s head and work your way back. Focus on areas behind the ears and under the collar. - Use Gentle Strokes: Avoid harsh scrubbing to prevent skin irritation. - Frequency: Brush several times a week, and daily during heavy shedding seasons. Expert Tip: “Using a slicker brush before baths not only removes excess fur that might clog your drain but also ensures that shampoo reaches your dog’s skin effectively,” says professional groomer Angela Martinez. 2. Dematting Comb: Conquering Knots and Tangles Why It’s Essential: Even with regular brushing, some stubborn mats can form, especially around the neck, chest, and armpits. A dematting comb is specially designed to break through these tangles without pulling or causing discomfort. Key Features: - Sharp, Angled Teeth: Designed to gently cut through mats. - Safety Guards: Prevent accidental nicks or cuts. - Lightweight and Maneuverable: Ideal for working in sensitive areas. How to Use: - Target Problem Areas: Identify sections prone to matting. - Short, Controlled Strokes: Work slowly, easing through the mat without tugging. - Combine with Brushing: Use a slicker brush to ensure all tangles are removed. Real-World Example: Jessica, a Golden Retriever owner, noted that her dog’s persistent tangles around the neck improved significantly after incorporating a de-matting comb into her grooming routine. “It made the difference between a painful, frustrating session and a smooth, enjoyable grooming experience,” she shared. 3. Deshedding Tool: Taming Seasonal Shedding Why Experts Recommend It: Golden Retrievers are notorious for heavy shedding, particularly during seasonal transitions. A de-shedding tool—often exemplified by models like the Furminator—is indispensable for tackling the dense undercoat. Key Features: - Dual-Sided Effectiveness: Targets both the topcoat and the undercoat. - Curved Blades: Gently removes dead hair without damaging the skin. - Ergonomic Grip: Reduces hand fatigue during longer sessions. How to Use: - Gentle, Steady Strokes: Use along the back and sides where the undercoat is thick. - Monitor Frequency: Once or twice a week is sufficient during heavy shedding, but adjust based on your dog’s needs. - Post-Grooming Clean-Up: Keep your home cleaner by reducing loose hair with regular use. Expert Insight: “Deshedding tools can drastically reduce the amount of hair left on your furniture and clothes,” advises veterinarian Dr. Samuel Lee. “They’re particularly effective during the spring and fall when Golden Retrievers shed the most.” 4. Undercoat Rake: Deep Cleaning for a Healthy Coat Why It’s Important: An undercoat rake is essential for reaching the dense layer beneath the topcoat. It removes excess undercoat hair and helps distribute natural oils, leading to a healthier, shinier coat. Key Features: - Wide-Spaced Teeth: Designed for deep penetration through the coat. - Ergonomic Design: Ensures comfortable handling during extended use. - Effective in Preventing Mats: Regular use reduces the risk of painful mats. How to Use: - Pre-Brushing: Start with a slicker brush to remove surface debris. - Section the Coat: Work in small sections, using the rake gently to avoid pulling. - Focus on High-Shedding Areas: Target the back, sides, and underarms where the undercoat is most concentrated. Pro Tip: Integrate the undercoat rake into your grooming routine during peak shedding periods. “It’s an excellent tool to keep your Golden’s coat in top condition and to prevent the formation of mats,” recommends groomer Michael Johnson. 5. Self-Cleaning Brush: Efficiency Meets Innovation Why It Stands Out: For busy pet parents, a self-cleaning brush offers a convenient way to maintain tool hygiene and reduce grooming time. These brushes have a built-in mechanism that retracts the bristles, making it easy to remove trapped hair. Key Features: - Easy Maintenance: Quick-release mechanism for cleaning the brush. - Consistent Performance: Ensures the brush remains effective with every use. - Time-Saving: Reduces the hassle of manual cleaning after every session. How to Use: - Activate After Grooming: Use the cleaning mechanism immediately after each session. - Occasional Deep Clean: Even with a self-cleaning feature, rinse the brush with warm water periodically. - Comfortable Grip: Make sure you have a secure, ergonomic handle for extended use. User Review Highlight: Many Golden Retriever owners praise self-cleaning brushes for their ease of use and the way they streamline the grooming process. “I love that I don’t have to spend extra time cleaning my brush—it’s a game changer,” says longtime pet owner Amanda Rivera. 6. Grooming Scissors: For That Perfect Finishing Touch Why It’s a Must: Even with meticulous brushing, there may be stray hairs around the face, ears, and paws that need tidying. Grooming scissors offer the precision required to trim these areas neatly. Key Features: - Sharp, Precision Blades: Provide clean, smooth cuts without tugging. - Safety Rounded Tips: Protect your pet from accidental nicks. - Lightweight and Balanced: Ensure ease of use even during detailed trimming. How to Use: - Identify Trim Areas: Focus on areas like around the eyes, ears, and between the toes. - Make Small, Gradual Cuts: Trim little by little to avoid overcutting. - Keep Your Pet Calm: Use treats and gentle praise to create a positive trimming experience. Expert Suggestion: “Grooming scissors are indispensable for maintaining a neat appearance, especially for show dogs,” notes professional groomer Lisa Hernandez. “Investing in a high-quality pair can make a world of difference.” 7. Dog Nail Clippers: Essential for Paws Why They’re Critical: Healthy nails are a cornerstone of overall pet comfort. Overgrown nails can cause pain, affect your dog’s gait, and even lead to infections. Key Features: - Precision Cutting Blades: Designed specifically for the tough nails of dogs. - Safety Guards: Help prevent accidental overcutting or injuries. - Ergonomic Design: Provides a secure grip for controlled clipping. How to Use: - Acclimate Your Dog: Get your pet comfortable with having their paws handled before trimming. - Trim Incrementally: Only clip small sections at a time, avoiding the quick—the sensitive area within the nail. - Use Positive Reinforcement: Reward your dog with treats and praise to create a stress-free experience. Veterinarian Insight: “Regular nail trimming not only prevents discomfort but also supports proper posture and mobility,” explains Dr. Lee. “If you’re unsure, ask your vet for a demonstration or guidance.” 8. Ear Cleaning Solutions: Protecting Your Pet’s Ears Why They’re Needed: Golden Retrievers have charming floppy ears that, if not cleaned properly, can become a breeding ground for infections. Using a gentle ear cleaning solution is crucial for maintaining ear hygiene. Key Features: - Alcohol-Free Formulas: Ensure no irritation or drying out of sensitive skin. - Easy Applicators: Droppers or pre-soaked pads that allow for safe, precise cleaning. - Antibacterial Properties: Help prevent the buildup of wax and debris. How to Use: - Prepare the Solution: Warm it to room temperature to ensure comfort. - Apply Gently: Use an applicator to deposit the cleaner into the outer ear, then massage gently. - Wipe Clean: Use a soft cloth or cotton ball to remove any residue, avoiding deep insertion into the ear canal. Expert Recommendation: “Regular ear cleaning is a must, especially after outdoor adventures,” advises professional groomer Michael Johnson. “It’s one of those tasks that can prevent more serious infections down the line.” 9. Dental Care Tools: Beyond the Coat Why Oral Hygiene Matters: While grooming often focuses on the exterior, dental care is a critical component of your Golden’s overall health. Poor oral hygiene can lead to periodontal disease and other health issues. Key Features: - Dog-Specific Toothbrushes: Designed to reach all surfaces of your pet’s mouth. - Pet-Safe Toothpaste: Flavored and formulated for canine use, making brushing a more enjoyable experience. - Ergonomic Handles: For ease of use during those tricky-to-reach areas. How to Use: - Establish a Routine: Brush your dog’s teeth several times a week. - Use Gentle, Circular Motions: Ensure all surfaces are cleaned without causing discomfort. - Combine with Regular Dental Check-Ups: Maintain overall oral health with professional cleanings as needed. Professional Advice: “Maintaining your pet’s dental health is as important as any other grooming task,” says Dr. Lee. “Regular brushing can prevent many common health issues later on.” 10. Grooming Mitts: For a Gentle and Soothing Finish Why They’re a Favorite: Grooming mitts offer a soft, gentle way to remove loose hair and give your Golden a relaxing massage. They’re perfect for quick touch-ups and for pets that may be a bit anxious with brushes. Key Features: - Soft, Textured Surface: Helps capture loose hair while providing a calming massage. - Machine-Washable: Easy to clean and maintain. - Versatile Use: Suitable for both grooming and bonding sessions. How to Use: - Use as a Finishing Tool: After brushing, run the mitt over your pet’s body in long, gentle strokes. - Focus on High-Shedding Areas: Areas like the back and sides benefit most from the mitt’s action. - Combine with Praise: Enhance the calming effect by rewarding your dog during the session. Owner’s Note: Many pet owners find that grooming mitts not only reduce fur on furniture but also serve as an excellent tool for reinforcing a positive grooming experience.
Creating a Comprehensive Grooming Routine
Choosing the best tools is only part of the equation. A well-structured grooming routine can make the process enjoyable and stress-free for both you and your Golden Retriever. Steps to an Effective Grooming Session - Prepare Your Space: - Designate a Quiet Area: Choose a calm, well-lit space free from distractions. - Gather All Tools: Keep your grooming kit organized and within reach. - Set the Mood: Consider playing soft music and have treats available. - Start with a Pre-Brushing: - Use a Grooming Mitt or Slicker Brush: Remove loose hair and detangle minor knots. - Work Gently: Start at the head and move toward the tail. - Deep Cleaning and Detangling: - Employ a Deshedding Tool and Undercoat Rake: Address the thick undercoat, particularly during shedding seasons. - Use the Dematting Comb: Focus on areas prone to mats. - Detail Work: - Trim with Grooming Scissors: Tidy up stray hairs around the face, ears, and paws. - Manage Nails: Use dog nail clippers with a careful, incremental approach. - Clean Ears and Brush Teeth: - Apply Ear Cleaning Solutions: Ensure your pet’s ears are free of wax and debris. - Brush Their Teeth: Use dog-specific dental care tools. - Finish with a Relaxing Massage: - Use a Grooming Mitt: Gently massage your pet, reinforcing the positive experience with treats and praise. Tips for a Stress-Free Experience - Keep Sessions Short and Sweet: Particularly for pets new to grooming. - Positive Reinforcement: Use treats and gentle praise throughout. - Observe Your Pet: Adjust your routine based on their mood and comfort level. - Regular Schedule: Consistency helps build a positive association with grooming.
Expert Insights and Real-world Success Stories
To illustrate the benefits of using the right grooming tools, here are a few insights from professionals and pet owners: - Case Study – Bella’s Transformation: Bella, a Golden Retriever with a notoriously thick coat, was prone to matting and frequent shedding. After her owner incorporated a slicker brush, de-matting comb, and de-shedding tool into her routine, Bella’s coat became noticeably smoother. “It’s like night and day,” her owner remarked, “and Bella is much more comfortable.” - Professional Groomer’s Perspective: “Investing in quality grooming tools pays off in the long run,” says groomer Angela Martinez. “When you use tools specifically designed for double coats, you not only improve the coat’s appearance but also enhance your pet’s overall health.” - Veterinarian Advice: Dr. Samuel Lee emphasizes the importance of regular grooming for early detection of health issues. “A consistent grooming routine lets you catch any abnormalities early, whether it’s a skin irritation or an ingrown nail,” he explains.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Q: How often should I groom my Golden Retriever? A: For most Golden Retrievers, a thorough grooming session once a week is ideal, with daily or bi-weekly brushing during heavy shedding periods. Nails, ears, and dental care should be managed as needed—typically monthly or as recommended by your veterinarian. Q: What if my Golden Retriever is nervous about grooming? A: Start with short sessions using gentle tools like grooming mitts and gradually introduce other tools. Always reward your pet with treats and praise to build a positive association. Q: Can I use the same tools for multiple pets? A: Yes, but be sure to clean and disinfect them between uses to prevent the spread of bacteria or parasites. How Full-Service Dog Grooming Keeps Your Pet Looking and Feeling Their Best
Regular grooming is an essential part of keeping your dog healthy and happy. While some pet owners opt for occasional baths and brushing at home, full-service dog grooming provides a more comprehensive approach to caring for your furry friend’s coat, skin, nails, and overall well-being. Full-service grooming isn’t just about making your dog look good; it’s about ensuring they feel their best too. Here’s how full-service dog grooming keeps your pet in top shape, both inside and out.
Thorough Cleaning for a Healthy Coat and Skin
A clean coat isn’t just about aesthetics; it’s vital for your dog’s overall health. Dirt, debris, and dead skin cells can build up on your dog’s fur, leading to irritation, itching, and even infections if left untreated. Full-service dog grooming includes a deep cleaning that goes beyond what you can achieve with a basic bath at home.
Shampooing and Conditioning: Professional groomers use high-quality, dog-safe shampoos and conditioners tailored to your dog’s specific coat type and skin needs. Whether your dog has sensitive skin, allergies, or a thick double coat, full-service groomers select the right products to cleanse, nourish, and moisturize your pet’s fur and skin.
Detangling and Deshedding: Groomers also address mats, tangles, and excess shedding. They use specialized tools to detangle knotted fur and remove loose undercoat hair, which can reduce shedding and keep your dog’s coat smooth and manageable.
Nail Trimming for Comfort and Mobility
Nail trimming is a critical component of full-service dog grooming. Overgrown nails can cause discomfort, alter your dog’s gait, and even lead to joint issues over time. However, many pet owners find trimming their dog’s nails to be a difficult task.
Safe and Stress-Free Nail Care: Full-service groomers are trained to handle nail trimming with precision and care, ensuring your dog’s nails are clipped to a safe length without causing any discomfort. They can also file the nails to smooth rough edges, preventing accidental scratching and making walking more comfortable for your dog.
Ear Cleaning to Prevent Infections: Dogs, particularly those with floppy ears or breeds prone to ear infections, require regular ear cleaning to maintain ear health. Moisture, dirt, and wax can accumulate in a dog’s ears, creating an environment where bacteria and yeast can thrive.
Gentle Ear Cleaning: Professional groomers are skilled at cleaning your dog’s ears safely and effectively. They use gentle ear-cleaning solutions to remove excess wax and debris, reducing the risk of infections. Regular ear cleaning as part of full-service grooming can prevent painful ear issues and help you spot early signs of infection before they become serious.
Dental Care for Fresh Breath and Oral Health
Good oral hygiene is crucial for your dog’s health but is often overlooked in home grooming routines. Full-service grooming often includes basic dental care, such as brushing your dog’s teeth to reduce plaque buildup and freshen their breath.
Preventing Gum Disease: Regular tooth brushing helps prevent plaque and tartar buildup, which can lead to gum disease, tooth decay, and other serious health issues. Groomers use dog-friendly toothpaste and brushing techniques that help maintain your dog’s oral health between vet visits.
Professional Haircuts for Breed-Specific Grooming : Different dog breeds have different grooming needs when it comes to their coats. Full-service grooming ensures that your dog’s coat is trimmed and styled according to its breed standards, lifestyle, or your preferences.
Customized Grooming Styles: Whether your dog requires a simple trim to keep their coat tidy or a more complex style like a poodle’s cut, professional groomers have the expertise to provide breed-appropriate grooming. For mixed-breed dogs or dogs with unique needs, they can also recommend grooming styles that are comfortable and practical.
Seasonal Coat Management: Groomers can help manage your dog’s coat depending on the season. For example, they may recommend a shorter trim in the warmer months to help your dog stay cool or a thorough de-shedding session during shedding season.
Identifying Health Issues Early
One of the often-overlooked benefits of full-service dog grooming is that it can serve as an early detection tool for potential health issues. Professional groomers work closely with your dog’s skin, coat, ears, and nails, making them more likely to notice unusual lumps, bumps, rashes, or signs of discomfort that you may not have seen.
Spotting Concerns: Whether it’s an ear infection, skin irritation, or a minor injury, groomers can alert you to potential health concerns early. Catching these issues during grooming appointments allows you to address them with your veterinarian before they become more serious.
A Stress-Relief and Bonding Experience: Dogs benefit from grooming not only physically but mentally as well. Regular grooming can be a soothing and calming experience for many dogs, especially when handled by a gentle, experienced groomer. For anxious dogs, a regular grooming routine with a familiar groomer can help them become more comfortable with the process over time.
Building Trust: Full-service groomers take the time to build trust with your dog, making each visit a positive experience. The one-on-one attention, combined with the soothing nature of being brushed and pampered, helps dogs relax and feel cared for.
Conclusion
Full-service dog grooming goes beyond the basics to provide comprehensive care that keeps your dog looking and feeling their best. From thorough coat cleaning and nail trimming to professional haircuts and early detection of health issues, regular grooming sessions are essential for maintaining your pet’s well-being. For busy pet owners, investing in full-service grooming ensures your dog receives the expert care they deserve, helping them stay healthy, happy, and comfortable.

Hair Extensions:Your Beauty Secret
Looking to enhance your hairstyle with extra length, volume, or a splash of color? Hair extensions are the perfect way to achieve the hair you've always desired, whether you're aiming for long, flowing locks or a vibrant new hue. In this guide, we’ll explore everything you need to know about hair extensions in Medford, from choosing the right type to caring for them properly.
Why Opt for Hair Extensions?
1. Instant Length & Volume Hair extensions provide a quick fix for anyone with short or thin hair, giving you the appearance of thick, flowing locks in no time.
2. Versatility in Styling With hair extensions, the styling options are endless. You can go from sleek and straight to voluminous curls or experiment with trendy braids—all without waiting for your natural hair to grow.
3. Temporary Color Experimentation Looking to try out a new color? Hair extensions are an excellent way to experiment with highlights, ombré, or even bold shades like pink or blue, all without the risk of damaging your natural hair.
4. Confidence Boost Having fuller, longer hair can transform your look and enhance your self-confidence. Whether for a special occasion or just for everyday wear, hair extensions give you the opportunity to feel fabulous every day.
How to Select the Perfect Hair Extensions
1. Identify Your Goals Before selecting your extensions, think about what you want to achieve. Do you need more volume, extra length, or just a temporary color change? Defining your goal will make the selection process easier.
2. Consult with a Professional It’s always best to visit a professional salon to discuss your options. Experts can help you choose the best extensions suited for your hair type, desired style, and overall lifestyle.
3. Choose High-Quality Hair Opt for high-quality, 100% human hair for a more natural look and longer lifespan. While synthetic hair extensions are cheaper, they can be difficult to style and may not last as long.
4. Consider Your Maintenance Commitment Different types of hair extensions come with varying levels of maintenance. Be realistic about how much time you’re willing to spend on caring for your extensions to keep them looking fresh and flawless.
How to Care for Your Extensions
1. Use Gentle, Sulfate-Free Products To keep your extensions soft and healthy, use sulfate-free shampoos and conditioners. Be gentle when washing and avoid tugging or pulling on the hair.
2. Detangle Daily Brush your extensions regularly with a soft-bristle brush to prevent tangling or matting. Always start at the ends and gently work your way up to avoid breakage.
3. Limit Heat Styling Excessive heat can cause wear and tear on your extensions. If you must style with heat tools, apply a heat protectant spray beforehand to safeguard the hair.
4. Regular Salon Visits Schedule regular appointments with your salon to ensure your extensions are properly maintained and adjusted as needed. This will help avoid damage and keep your extensions looking their best.
