octopath traveler is a great series because the first game is like okay here are your typical jrpg archetypes. we've got the nerdy scholar. we've got the hardened hunter. we've got the intrepid merchant. our dancer is a vengeful seductress but otherwise this is a pretty normal fantasy party loadout. and then octopath 2 is like hi remember the group from the first game? here's an entirely new set of uniquely fucked up guys. this is our cleric, he's an atheist. this is our merchant, he's a communist. this is our apothecary, she Kills. our dancer is normal this time though

After they get back to their quarters, the moment that the door has slid shut behind the tail end of Obi-Wan’s robes, Obi-Wan is at the sink in the kitchen unit, coughing raggedly into its bowl. Then, Anakin is passing him a clean towel to wipe at the spit and petals sticking to the edges of his mouth and his beard. Then, Anakin is putting on the kettle, allowing the water to reach a boil in silence as he leans against the counter and watches Obi-Wan dab at his face. Then, he is passing him a mug full of hot water with a dash of lemon to soothe the roughness in his throat. Then, he is pushing his hands up against Obi-Wan’s shoulders, insistent, guiding him into the living area and pushing him down onto the couch, sitting next to him but not quite close enough to touch.

Then he is linking his fingers together between his spread legs and looking at him, expression unreadable. Eyebrows drawn, jaw flexing. 

Then he says, “I talked to Padmé today.”

Oh. Obi-Wan exhales even as the flowers perk up in his lungs. Right then. Probably for the better. If Obi-Wan is to die anyway, despite Anakin returning his affections, it is…for the best that Anakin mends his relationship with his wife. The divorce isn’t even finalized yet, as far as Obi-Wan is aware. It would be easy to undo the flimsiwork already filed. It would even solve one of the outstanding issues that Obi-Wan has been confronted with since his diagnosis and the failed cure: he does not like picturing Anakin alone after his death. 

He’d considered contacting Ahsoka to inquire about her whereabouts, politely ask that she relocate closer to Anakin sooner rather than later, and perhaps even mend some of the tension between them before he returns to the Force. But no, Anakin talking with Padmé—Anakin returning to his wife—that is much simpler. Better. For the best, surely.

“I see," Obi-Wan says. "Excuse me," he adds, carefully placing his mug on the small table beside him and swaying like a sea-drunk man towards the fresher.
