More Phaidei Fics I Want to Read

1. Obligatory "fish out of water" fic (mostly AU because the timeline would probably not match canon, but we do what we want here!), taking place after Mydei and the Kremnoans first make it to Okhema. Okhema is already harsh on outsiders, let alone on a conquering "barbarian" tribe infamous for bringing strife to so many other city states. Mydei doesn't know the local customs at all, and while he doesn't care the slightest about how these pathetic Okhemans see him, the trouble he keeps getting into is affecting the reputations of innocent Kremnoans too. He's got to find a way to blend in, at least enough to stop costing his fellows any chance of finding paid work... Too bad the only person who is willing (and has time) to help is Phainon (who isn't native to Okhema either but done a much better job of learning to get along with the locals). The guy thinks he's the Titans' gift to Amphoreus just because he beat Mydei in a duel once. It was only once! And why does it matter whether we eat standing up or lying down? What are you laughing at, Savior Complex?! Or, tl;dr: The culture clash comedy one where Phainon and Mydei teach each other entirely opposing sets of manners, and come to learn a lot more about one another in the process.

2. Also obligatory omegaverse where Mydei is an omega born with a unique constitution: he's built like an alpha, snarls like an alpha, and dominates his opponents like an alpha. He even smells like an alpha, especially when he's in heat, so the only people who ever figured out his secondary gender were his doctor and his parents, all of whom are dead now. The whole world thinks Mydei is an alpha, and his reputation as an indomitable warrior prince pretty much hinges on people continuing to believe that. The problem is, Mydei wouldn't actually mind getting to live an omega's life, at least the part about finding a mate and starting a family. Only, who in the world would want him for a mate? Any alpha hunting for an actual omega would never think to look in Mydei's direction, betas would just be confused, and even those few alphas who are attracted to other alphas would only end up disappointed after discovering Mydei isn't one. He's nobody's ideal partner, and he'd mostly made peace with that--until Phainon. Until that upstart alpha from the middle of nowhere knocked Mydei down in a brutal spar and then pulled him up with the gentlest hand, and suddenly it mattered that no one would ever want Mydei. It mattered a lot. (Of course, the long and short of it is that Mydei is the man of Phainon's dreams, and after a series of setbacks and miscommunications and lots of silly angst, they'll find their way to a happy ending.)

3. After discovering Mydei's weakness for sweets and cute things like pink pomegranate juice, Phainon decides to engage in a bit of light-hearted teasing: He starts sending Mydei exceedingly adorable gifts and fancy candies under the guise of a "secret admirer." The joke is on Phainon, however, when it turns out Mydei finds the gifts quite charming and is determined to discover the identity of the mysterious gift giver. A reasonable person would quickly give up on the joke to avoid getting caught, but Phainon has always been weak to chasing thrills--and maybe this whole thing about being Mydei's "secret admirer" isn't too far off after all... (The real joke is that Mydei, realizing immediately who the gifts were from, invented an entire "hunting my admirer down" story just for the fun of watching Phainon squirm--and, well, because keeping the whole thing going, being showered with attention by his rival, doesn't feel too bad at all.)

4. The opposite fic: The one where Mydei's completely mismatched online personality accidentally catfishes Phainon and causes some very silly drama. Mydei's (anonymous) teletweet account is full of cutesy chimera kitten memes, aesthetic pictures of food, heart emojis, and overly punctuated (with exclamation points) recaps of shopping trips in Okhema's market... Can anyone blame Phainon for thinking this is the account of a cute girl who is refreshingly earnest about her love for chubby seals and pink milk tea? But as Phainon becomes closer and closer to "Fig Stew" online, things get more and more complicated--because he's also been getting closer and closer to his real world companion Mydeimos lately. Both Fig and Mydei are wonderful, and Phainon can barely bear the thought of losing either of them in his life. Trying to get closer to them both would be way too dishonest, but choosing one over the other... What should he do? Meanwhile, Mydei is in trouble. He wasn't planning to set up some secret identity or anything; it's not his fault Phainon mistook him for a girl online! There's nothing weird about dudes posting sparkling kitten gifs, godsdammit!! But now the charade's gone on way too long to come clean, especially since Phainon seems so invested, and... well, can you blame Mydei for not wanting to give up on the closest thing to a relationship he's ever managed to start? tl;dr: Online mistaken identity hijinks fic.

5. The required-in-every-fandom time travel fic (with bonus fake dating)! Through an outpouring of Oronyx's power, Mydei and Phainon end up in the bodies of their future selves, who, it turns out, have not only managed to end Amphoreus' war and revive Castrum Kremnos, but... appear to have also... gotten married?!! Now Mydei and Phainon have to not only find out exactly how their future selves managed to save the world (so they can accomplish the same task) then look for a way back to their own time--they've got to do all of that while also pretending to be a happily wedded pair of rulers to avoid raising everyone's suspicions. This would be a whole lot easier if either of them knew the first thing about being actual kings... or about relationships. The slightest slip up could create ripple effects that change the entire timeline permanently, but--no matter how nerve-wracking it might be to admit, after seeing the future in store for them together--there's nothing Phainon (and Mydei) won't do to make sure things go exactly as they should.

Let's just say that Sylus's "In Your Eyes" mini story is another direct hit to the 💘. I'm glad that my read on him is right. That the man loves seeing the happiness in MC's eyes, being anywhere together and enjoying the moment -- he treasures it all.

TYSM FOR THE TRANSCRIPT! And to the person who posted it!! 🩷 y’all are the best! Now that I finally read everything, can I ask what your favorite part of Oathbound was?

Of course! I'll keep working on the rest of the bonus chapters, too--the post-it notes weren't hard to read but the others...

As for favorite parts, I really enjoyed the whole three days at Penumbra. Tracy wasn't lying, this new (to us) side of Nick is delightful. But that's pretty broad, so within that, perhaps the warlock attack, the sleeping in the same bed, the practicing touching.

There's also the curia scene, of course. Very satisfying and vindicating. Both from Nick and from William.

And!! I gotta mention Alice's scene! Her stuck in a sort of purgatory, re-running through her last moments trying to outsmart it this time. One more time. One more time. her determination, her stubborn refusal to give up. GOD it's so good.

I know that's not not one specific part, but there were so many I enjoyed I don't know I can narrow it down! What's yours, if you have one? Feel free to give more than one, too :)

Favorite Pacey/Joey Moments Per Episode: 3x2 Homecoming

Two episodes into the live action one piece and I already adore it to bits!! They’re doing such a fantastic job of maintaining the good and goofy nature of the show, still making it more crunchy and real (they genuinely made buggy menacing which is absolutely fucking wild) and have done a great job altering the content in a way that works much better for a live action storytelling style. Truly this is everything I could have wanted and more!

I’m especially appreciative of how they altered the story of the gathering of the crew and have increased the external stakes a bit so that you feel more invested in the larger world off the bat. That has always been a criticism of one piece I’ve seen is that it takes a while to really get invested in the world because of how sparse information is until it becomes relevant. While personally I don’t mind the slow pace of world building at the beginning I’ve also been a fan for sixteen years and the need to have investment of the larger world immediately is hardly a priority when you’re 11 years old. At that age you just care that luffy is fun, the people you meet are interesting, and the stories are exciting. The live action has the benefit of knowing the world at large as it is now and being able to foreshadow those external parties we otherwise only got allusions to through the cover stories (which were never even adapted in the anime for the most part) as well as rework how we meet everyone as necessary is wonderful.

Spoilers under the cut (including down the line spoilers, not just for the first couple episodes!!):

Having Nami and zoro meet luffy at the same time in shells town while dealing with Morgan really helps smooth out the time it takes for them to partner with luffy and gives us more time to spend with all of their characters which is an absolute win in my book. I love that we’re already foreshadowing baroque works by witnessing zoro’s meeting with Mr 7, nami’s ‘betrayal’ by having her contact arlong at the end of episode 2, and Garp’s eventual meeting with luffy later on in the series as well as coby’s rise in the marines. Threading Garp in already by introducing him at Rogers execution and then having him be a constant shadow dogging luffy’s rise to power in the background is honestly such a fantastic move and I’m already gleeful at the payoff of the gramps joke reveal that’s on the distant horizon.

Even though I’m only on episode two I already adore the crew dynamics and how you can see zoro’s loyalty taking hold to luffy, as well as the conflicting nature of nami’s partnership and the beginnings of her desperately wanting to actually be a member of this little gang of pirates. Truly, every time Iñaki is on screen I’m immediately so happy because that’s my boy!! That’s Luffy! Hes doing such a good job!!

as someone whos seen btvs before i love seeing how excited you are to be watching it (and also angel) so far whos ur fave character? also do u know that theres comics?

Yes! I have SO much media to catch up on, but I'm so happy because a series hasn't gripped me like this for a while, and I've never been one to be super-into vampire tropes, but the show is super-well written, and you can see why Buffy actually did become a feminist icon- she's so well-written, likeable, and multi-dimensional, which I'm extremely happy about, because I feel like without coming off as a "pick me," I find finding well-written female characters who actually STAR in the show really difficult to relate to, usually. They're usually too bland in order to be appeal to everybody, or just written in such a one dimensional way.

Buffy is great, because even though there are some elements that usually on shows you'd find annoying in less well-written characters (Like her shitty GPA, not really caring about school etc. Which is giving very Sailor Moon energy), it's understandable with the literal weight of the world on her shoulders. Or even liking guys- it's not done in a way that while she wants to have a relationship, and even though she pushes against it, often- she's a good enough person to put others first. It's like WOW WOMEN CAN CONTAIN MULTITUDES, WHODA THUNK.

I'm actually going home for Reading Week from my Masters program this coming week, so I actually ordered a ridiculous amount of the comics from my local library, and can't wait to catch up. <3

As for fave characters, I've got a couple. I actually surprisingly like Buffy, as I said, which is rare for me (For example, my favourite characters in Gilmore Girls, even though I love the show, are definitely not the Gilmore Girls. Same with Sailor Moon).

I actually really like Giles, too- I did that 100 Character Quiz a couple of months ago, where they pull characters from several fandoms and make a list by percentage of which ones you're most like, and I did get Giles. I also like Willow, Xander can jump off a cliff, and love Spike, but I knew I would.

The last character that apparently I'm going to grow to like (Just started Season two), is apparently Cordelia. My friend who watched the entire show growing up says I remind her of Cordelia because "Cordelia is the only person on that show sometimes with goddamn common sense," so I'll take that as the compliment it is (Also it took me forever to get my driver's license, too- so I'll take it for the backhanded compliment it is xoxo).

I now desperately want to headcanon Mr. Ambrose as Agender AMAB (and gay, but he's canonically gay already, or at least into men). @br1ghtestlight mentioned hearing about someone headcanoning Mr. Ambrose as Agender, and I just adore that so much. There has also been some Nonbinary headcanons about him, which is valid too, but I like the Agender one slightly more, just because I don't think I've ever seen Agender representation in popular media before, especially a show as popular as Bob's Burgers?? Or at least, I can't remember if I have.

I also like to think he'd go by any pronouns as well. I think he would prefer He/Him, but wouldn't really care what anyone called him--he just doesn't seem like the type to care that much about gender. Someone could be like "Hey, Ms. Ambrose, can you help me find something?" and he'd still be like "Shhhhhhh, you idiot child, can't you see I'm trying to enjoy my ziti in peace??"

Side note, that scene had me in absolute stitches:

"That's the most surprising," Astarion couldn't stop his brows from rising higher. "I expected you to be…more prudent about this. Not that I'm complaining. Obviously."

"So far we've met but a couple of goblins who deserved whatever was coming their way, so don't be too hopeful about your diet." Her playful reprimand was softened by a chuckle, "But I don't expect to plow our way to creche without meeting at least a handful of bandits or other unsavory fellows. And if we're so forced to confront them in battle, there's little difference between them dying under your dagger or under your teeth. The least they can do is to stave your bout of hunger, no?"

"A-ah, ever a rational thinker. If my heart wasn't dead, it might've just skipped a beat."

Astarion leaned to her with a smile on his lips, catching and gauging her reaction. Tav stayed still, arms crossed as she allowed him closer, though she appeared unmoved by such approach. A pity.

"Well then, I don't suppose you would include yourself to the list of the willing participants again this night, would you?" he still asked, a little hopeful. Though not without fussing, Tav once agreed to lend him her blood, and he remembered the taste with fondness.

She rolled her eyes in thought, clearly contemplating the proposition.

"Tomorrow," she decided finally. "I'll ask Shadowheart to prepare a spell to deal with my bloodloss."

Astarion sighed, disappointed, but not surprised—having fun and a full stomach every day was outside of his expectations anyway.

"Fine. I'll stay put for tonight, but be aware, I would spend my every waking moment consumed with thirst and much anticipation," Astarion whispered, close enough for his words to tickle her ear. His smile was practiced, with just enough promise to make her breath stagnate.

As much as Tav loved keeping her calm, the fact that he was affecting her didn't slip past him. His lips quivered, bending into a satisfied grin that Astarion quickly erased.

He knew enough to see how long this little game would take. He didn't mind it, though. As long as he was winning.

spent all of this morning and part of last night rereading old fics and novels i wrote. the more i read them, the more i fall in my love with my own writing again. it's been so HARD writing for months now, and i know it's because i got some critiques from an ex-friend on my last novel that just...didn't have as much enthusiasm as i had hoped. but when i look back at everything i've written in the past 10/11 years, it's so hard to say that all of it's terrible. some of the grammar is off, and the plot doesn't always make sense, but i was oh so clearly having fun with all of it. and i sure as hell didn't give a fuck when writing it, especially some of those more self-indulgent fics
