So this is more of an AU of the fandom AU where the Coruscant Guard live in a shitty run down building that’s falling apart. But Commander Fox finds this unacceptable so he clears out a warehouse used for storage and builds a shiny new headquarters. The original building they fix up, but only the lobby, a couple offices, and the med bay so troopers on senate duty can stay there due to its proximity to the senate building. Their new building they can go nuts with, adding all sorts of stuff that they arnt allowed to have.
An entire room is filled with tv monitors so they can slice into security cameras around the planet and see everything. They get a nice rec room, an area for the engineers to play around with ideas, even an office for the medics to make you talk about your feelings. A server room is dedicated solely to storing and orgonizing blackmail collected on pretty much everyone worth mentioning on Coruscant.
But after one secret building, what’s another? Areas of strategic importance are carefully chosen and a new headquarters is established nearby. They are each given code names. The original building is still Headquarters, the new main building is the Barracks. The Office is where they run intelligence and investigations from. IT Department is next to the industrial district. The Kennals are much lower than some of their other buildings, a small station set up to monitor the rancor infestation (Thorn moves down there to become a cowboy after he “dies” on Scipio). The Lobby is set in the lower civilian levels as a way to help the people who arnt rich enough to bribe politicians into getting what they want. The Med Bay started as just somewhere for big surgeries, physical therapy and prosthetics, but which the “generous donations” they acquire it grows into a hospital for civilians as well, completely free, and they start hiring nat born doctors, surgeons and nurses while paying them well and proving a great work environment. Adding a therapist office helped a lot of troopers as well.
The system takes a long time to build and works perfectly. Until Fox figures out Palpatine is a Sith. It’s not actually world shattering news, but it does give him a panic attack after realizing Palpatine though Fox already knew, because he had threatened the chancellor with a slug thrower instead of a blaster. Through questions to his batch mates with Jedi generals he learns that Sith can influence people’s minds and decides that in order for the clone rights bill to pass Palpatine needs to die.
And die he does. The rest of the conservative senators are swayed by a mix of blackmail, bribes, and bomb threats. The bill does pass, and most of them are instantly arrested for sentient rights violations, assault, and various other crimes because government property can’t serve as a witness in a civilian court of law.
The timing of all this could not be worse, as two of Fox’s batch mates where on planet, Cody and Wolffe, and they loved to stick their noses in his business. Which means when a lot of Corries are injured in the fight with the senate guards and private security while trying to make arrests, Cody and Wolffe help get them back to Headquarters, because it’s much closer than the Barracks. But Headquarters has a very small med bay because so few troopers use it. So they are over crowded and run out of bacta.
Also Cody gets turned around in the hallway and discovers how bad the rest of the building is. So Fox has a choice to make. He grabs Cody and Wolffe and drags them outside and back to the GAR barracks while texting Thire and telling him he has an hour and a half to make Headquarters look lived in. Then Fox opens a one way comm line with every Corrie so they can keep the story straight as he answers his brothers questions.
Fox commits to the bit so hard they believe the Guard is suffering horribly from abuse and budget cuts while in reality they just steal money from what ever rich person they have the freshest blackmail from. He could just tell them all the illegal things he’s been up to, but Fox would rather die than tell someone more than they needed to know.

✨Bad Batch E11 Spoilers✨
AAAAAAHHHHHHHH OMG OMG OMG OMG
Ok let's get into it y'all...welcome to my brain while watching E11
- OMG RYLOTH NOW???
-CROSS!
-SYNDULLAS!!!!!!!!!!! WHERE IS MOM???? IS CHOP WITH HER???
-Clone without helmet?  Clone I don't know? What???? We haven't seen a reg without their helmet as far as I can remember...Why do I get the feeling this guy's chip isn't 100%? Why else would they show us his face/give him some personality. Wait that's the other thing! Mans still has his armor painted and everything unlike all the other regs (not counting the Coruscant guard). Plus based on his pauldron I'm guessing he's an ARC trooper and they were more independent and creative thinkers than most of the regs........oh no Mr. Cowboy Hat Man is gonna kill him isn't he :(
- CHOPPER!!!!!! MY FAVORITE WAR CRIMINAL!!!!
- BABY HERA BABY HERA BABY HERA!!!! MOM YOU ARE SO SMALL RN AWWW I LOVE YOU
- My god there are no words to describe how happy I am to see Hera
- Ohhhhh his name is Howzer! Have we seen him before? I don't think so...I didn't forget a clone did I?!?!?!?!?!?!
-Not gonna report it? Yeah his chip isn't fully working is it. He seems nice pls don't murder him Dave. I know you will, but like don't.
- I get what Cham is saying, but like Gobi sounds more like Cham than Cham does
- AGH CROSS YOU'RE BALD! AGH CROSS I CAN SEE YOUR CRISPY BRAINS! SIR! LIKE THERE IS A LITERAL ✨C H U N K✨ MISSING FROM YOUR SKULL!
-WAIT A SECOND!!!!!!!!! HIS BRAINS BE BURNT ON THE CHIP SIDE!!! DOES THAT MEAN??? SOON??? (if someone has an extra clown wig and red nose hand it over i have a feeling imma need it)
- I seriously don't think there has ever been a moment when I was even remotely ok with Orn Free Taa
- Hera's mom is an absolute QUEEN! I love her already...oh no I'm getting attached I can't do that oh no stop it I can't deal with more sad
- BABY HERA FLY SHIP! Look at her go!!! Yay Mom!!!
-OMG IS HERA GONNA MEET OMEGA???
-AAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH HERA AND OMEGA ARE BESTIES!!!
-Awwwww Tech's been teaching Omega about the ship! Wait does that mean he has someone who will sit and listen to him because he just wants to share his knowledge??? AWWWWW THAT'S SO SOFT I LOVE IT!!!!! I really wish they would have shown us that. Like yeah there have been some short Tech teaching Omega moments, but nothing substantial. Seriously if they showed us Tech getting all happy and excited that someone actually wanted to learn from him I think I would simply pass away from pure joy. I just want some character development and happiness for my love is that too much to ask for?
- Hera talking about flying is so cute! Omg and Omega being so proud of her room!!!
-Lol like 0.5 sec into hearing that Omega and the Bois™ get shot at regularly, Hera's like "Are you in trouble? I will adopt you right now" (and then Omega pulled the Uno Reverse card on her and was like "sis we are literally the ones bringing you weapons"). Glad to know Hera has always been the mom friend.
-"Did you know flying is about a feeling?" "wHaT fEeLiNg?" My dear Tech, I adore your vocal inflections so much......oh stars.....I'm freaking out over crumbs......my apologies
- CROSS SWEETIE PLEASE STOP SHOOTING AT PEOPLE! SPECIFICALLY CHILDREN! BRO I KNOW YA CAN'T HELP IT BUT EEK MAN!
- Ok kind of a weird statement, but am I the only one that used to get really excited when a LAAT would show up? I used to be all like "My BOYS! 🥰" and now it's more of "My BOYS! 😥". Ya know what I mean? My poor clones...I miss them.
- Oh yeah I'm 100% calling it, Howzer's chip isn't doing the thing.
- Hera's mom could run me over with a blurrg and you know what that's on me. I got in her way. I'm so sorry.
- DAMN CROSS RIGHT TO THE NOGGIN JEEZ!
- Aww Howzer really cares about Hera and her parents. This is gonna hurt like a bitch isn't it 😒
FINAL THOUGHTS
- Idk what I was expecting from this episode, but it certainly wasn’t seeing Ryloth this soon.
- MOM!!! Agh I love Hera so much
-Howzer’s pretty. Good for him.
- So like for our clown outfits, is there color scheme or dress code or something? Because I'm really hoping that seeing Cross' ✨melted marbles✨ on the right side of his head means the chip got damaged and it's gonna stop working soon...right?
- I know both of them were only around the batch for a few minutes, but do you think Kanan and Hera ever had a moment were they were telling stories about their past and somehow connected the dots that they both knew them kinda? Idk probably not but it's fun to think about.
-So here's the thing (to finally wrap up my rambling), they were soooo close to Cross. Like I know the batch is going to have to go back to bring them more weapons, but they were sooooo close. I get it that they wouldn't have known he was there and it was interesting to see what is going on in the galaxy outside of the squad, especially with Ryloth's history of being constantly under occupation and seeing how they are dealing with the shift from the Republic to the Empire, but I need them to TALK ABOUT HIM! Like let's at least start there. Where's the energy from E3 about not leaving Cross behind? I know that getting him back is going to be really hard, really complicated, and really dangerous and that's why they haven't got him back yet, but at least try to come up with a plan. Start there boys. Please. I love you all so much. I really do. But could you just TALK TO EACH OTHER BECAUSE I KNOW IT'S BOTHERING YOU INSIDE BUT YA NEED TO BRING THOSE FEELINGS TO THE OUTSIDE!!! Ok thanks xxx
Yeah I think that's all I got for today's episode. Good night? Good morning? Whatever y'all know what I mean 😘

Caught up on episodes 2-16 of The Bad Batch this weekend and these are my thoughts as I watched
1. Love how tarkin has aged like 40 years since we last saw him approximately four-to-six months ago in the clone wars. Like I’m not kidding I genuinely love it
2. Whenever little omega gets out of the ship and sees sunlight for the first time and is so excited about dirt 🥺
3. The scary scary nexu 🥺🥺🥺🥺 so cool
4. The empire just immediately making everyone’s lives miserable ie giving everybody a chain code and shit. You’re right Dave Filoni we SHOULDN’T have social security numbers.
5. CID FUCKING RULES LMFAO. Cathy Bates lizard ass mob boss bitch. Echo knows her as ‘a contact of the Jedi’ which coming from him probably means less ‘the Jedi’ in general and more just ‘Obi-Wan and Anakin’. Cid clearly liked the Jedi, but Anakin I can’t imagine having that much patience to deal with her and he probably just interacted with her out of necessity but Obi-Wan. Imagine her and Obi-Wan interacting.** The flirting. The mind games. They were probably in love.
6. I always know that I personally am going to have a great time whenever the Zygerians show up because they always bring the Peak Weird Scifi Ralph Mcquarrie 70s vibes with them and they did NOT disappoint. The flying lizard vs. rancor fight gave me the strength I needed to go on another day
7. Speaking of the rancor like I knew it was going to be a rancor as soon as we saw the cage but I wasn’t expecting it to be THEE rancor.
8. Furthermore. Lost it at thee rancor making puppy dog heart-eyes at omega as it’s being led away to be chained up under Jabba’s palace to eat Jabba’s enemies for the rest of it’s life until Luke finally kills it in 4ABY.
9. Everybody climbing through the ion engine core was COOL SO COOL. My little nerd brain really loved that. “This is actually a marvel of engineering. This steel coating is capable of withstanding -“ “NO ONE CARES!” 💯💯💯💯 Exactly how I would’ve written it A+++++++
10. The fucking rattlesnake wild west music that aggressively plays every time Cad Bane is on screen. What’s better than this.
11. Cad Bane’s entire new gunslinger cowboy outfit. Everything to me.
12. I love all these deep seeded reasons we’re getting for why the storm troopers SUCK. 1. Being the entire idea to use them in the first place was based off a misunderstanding made after one(1) experimental mission where it’s interpreted that they’re better than the clones when the clones were the reason for the mission’s success in the first place and 2. How a lot of the first-wave storm troopers were trained by the clones who either didn’t want to train them and didnt do a great job on purpose or did it but personally left out a lot of info and skills. Pretty fascinating explanation for protagonist armor while also making a statement about the inefficiency and insincerity of institutional evil/bureaucracy (I guess).
13. Holy shit did NOT LIKE THE CLAUSTROPHOBIC ENDING AAAAAHHH. Like the facility on kamino floating to the bottom of the sea. Kill meeeeeeee. Very cool visuals though.
14. One thing I didn’t like was all of the stuff with Crosshair. It was all just so contrived and weird and didnt make any sense and really just brought the show down in the end, writing-wise. Honestly, most of the stuff regarding the clones’ story arch after their interaction with the guy on Ryloth who still had his armor painted, where we’re supposed to just assume his inhibitor chip . . . didn’t work or something? But instead of anyone bothering to tell him what’s going on after such a big deal was made out of the chips the episode right before this, it’s treated like some kind of moral choice the guy is making kinda took me out of the story severely. And even more so when the same guy manages to talk a bunch of other clones out of working for the empire too. Like can they do that? We’ve had this idea that these chips essentially mind control you repeated to us over and over so wtf. There was no coherent explanation for any of it. Maybe it’ll be explained later somewhere else, but still. Weird to do it this way. They needed to be more consistent with what a horrible scary thing those chips were instead of doing whatever that was. But up until then it was a lot of fun sci-fi.
14. Every minute cody doesn’t show up in one of these post war 66 shows i get more and more excited for him to show up dramatically in kenobi
**Like fr picture it it’s year 2 of the clone wars. Anakin and Ahsoka are sitting at the space mahjong table in Cid’s parlor bored as fuck and ready to leave but Obi-wan is still in cid’s office. it’s hour four and they’re only halfway through orchestrating the most unnecessarily elaborate and convoluted deal for a piece of information like “where is cad bane the last time I saw him he stole my wallet and car keys and he refuses to return them yes my car got blown up but that’s not the point It’s The Principle Of The Thing.” Literally everyone around them grew bored of all of this 3 hours ago but not obi-wan and cid. This is what they do for fun and they are both having the time of their lives. Anakin this war is stressful some of us are trying to relax

Here’s another story from the universe of my novel What Hindered Love. That book was told completely from Chloe’s point of view, but I have several unpublished scenes from Micah’s point of view. Fittingly, this is Micah’s version of what happened on Valentine’s Day when Chloe thought he was hooking up with another woman.
Summary: Once an addict, always an addict. Especially when wires get crossed on Valentine’s Day. Luckily, all Micah has to do is use the code word “busted,” and his friends are there.

Spoilers for the novel, obviously, so it’s below the cut:
Micah Barrett should have known that his attempts to ignore the fact that today was Valentine’s Day were doomed to failure. Because if there was anyone he knew who would celebrate such a saccharine holiday with childlike enthusiasm it would be Amanda Swisher, the culinary arts student he was training to be his baking assistant. Oh, and he and Amanda had to report to work at 5 am to construct a cake. Shaped like a castle. With turrets. For a wedding proposal. So yeah, there was that.
He wasn’t surprised to hear Amanda crooning Carrie Underwood’s “Cowboy Casanova” as she whipped up batter, but he would have expected her to forgo the traditional Valentine’s colors. Since her hair was flaming red on its own. But no. Amanda had boldly donned a frothy pink dress topped off with a white cardigan covered in tiny pink and red hearts. Her hair was up in a ponytail, per Micah’s own code in his kitchen (he always shuddered to see all that hair dangling over bowls of batter on Cupcake Wars), but she had used a bit of red tulle to tie it back.
“You’re a walking Whitman’s sampler,” he muttered when he saw her, still rubbing sleep out of his eyes.
“Aw, don’t tell me my mentor, my Yoda of baking, is a Valentine’s Grinch,” Amanda teased back.
“Well, they’re both green, aren’t they?”
Amanda just chuckled good-naturedly and rolled her eyes as she slipped the first pan of batter into the oven. Part of the reason he had picked her for the internship, aside from her brilliant fondant work, was her demeanor. He could be charming, but perky he was not. Especially when stressed over an order, particularly the intricate kind they were constructing today. Amanda’s enthusiasm and positivity was a good balance for his intensity.
Micah looked over the sketches of the massive cake they had to construct. Multiple tiers, multiple levels, three different flavors of cake, four different fillings, not to mention it had to look like a castle, complete with turrets. Their client wanted his girlfriend’s engagement ring sitting on the balcony of one of the turrets. Looking over everything now, Micah thought he may have gotten carried away with his brainstorming.
“This girl better say yes,” Micah muttered as he got to work.
“Oh, she will,” Amanda sighed dreamily, “I mean, it’s a fairy tale proposal. They must really be in love.”
“Stop!” Micah yelped when he noticed the container in her hand.
Amanda startled and checked the label. “Baking soda? Oops! It was sitting right by the powdered sugar. Silly me!”
Micah narrowed his eyes at her. Amanda was a little airheaded perhaps, but she was always careful in her work. Something was up, and he had a feeling he knew what it was.
Hours flew by, and Micah had the main portion of the castle constructed and awaiting Amanda’s magic with icing and fondant. He had the first turret constructed as well but was having difficulty with the balcony meant to hold the ring. Cake was light, and he was worried about the narrow turret holding that kind of weight. Simultaneously, he had a batch of Italian meringue going. With his hands full constructing the turret, he called out to Amanda, who was whipping up raspberry filling.
“Hey, turn the mixer down on that meringue, would you?”
Simultaneously, Micah’s cell phone rang, and Amanda snatched it up, “Hello, Micah Barretts’ phone!”
Micah thought to himself that he needed to tell Amanda not to answer his phone like an over-exuberant sixteen year old, but for now, there was the meringue. Micah laughed, shook his head, and gestured towards the mixer. Amanda squealed as she saw the meringue whipping way too fast and giggled, reaching for the mixer’s switch as she continued her distracted conversation with whoever was on the phone.
“I’m sorry, what was that?”
In her distraction, Amanda flipped the mixer’s switch to high. Meringue flew out of the bowl. Micah was surprised when laughter spilled out of his mouth. Must have been Amanda’s influence. Meringue splashed across his eyes as the turret on the cake-castle started to tilt.
“Amanda! Get over here!”
Micah couldn’t see with the meringue in his eyes, even though he was still laughing. He heard a plop and a muffled curse from Amanda, and then she was beside him.
“Quick, brace it with some pillars,” he instructed, relieved that she knew his kitchen as well as he did. He hated using pillars – they screamed 1980s – but what else could they do? Amanda rescued the turret before the cake could crack by slipping two plastic pillars under the balcony portion. She then wet a towel and began gently wiping the meringue from his eyes. Once he could actually see, he took in Amanda’s appearance. She was similarly covered in meringue, and they both dissolved into laughter. They’d been at this since five am, so it was no wonder they were punch drunk.
“It’s all in your hair,” Amanda gasped.
Micah groaned and ran a hand through his hair, feeling the meringue smear through it. It must have made him look quite the sight, because Amanda dissolved in a fresh fit of giggles. Micah stuck his head in the sink and turned on the tap. When he straightened, rubbing his wet hair with his fingers, Amanda was lifting his cell phone carefully by two fingers from the depths of the bowl of raspberry filling.
“Micah, I am so sorry.”
He took the phone from her carefully, futily attempting to wipe the sticky filling off with paper towels. “Josiah’s gonna kill me,” he groaned. “This is my third phone in six months.”
“You make a habit of dropping phones into your baking?”
Micah shrugged. “Or leaving them too close to a burner on the stove. Who was the call from anyway?”
“I’m sorry, I didn’t catch anything they said.”
Even though the phone was still sticky, Micah pushed the on button. Nothing. He sighed. “It’s ok, Amanda. It wasn’t your fault.” He took the bowl of filling over to the cake layer he had waiting on a cake stand.
Amanda returned to rolling out her fondant and sighed, “I think it was my fault. I’m very distracted today.”
“This wouldn’t have anything to do with the contractor who redid the barn, would it? What was his name again . . . “
He was teasing her, actually. He remembered the man’s name.
“Eric. His name’s Eric.” Amanda blushed enough to match her hair, which was answer enough. “Maybe. We’re going out again tonight.”
Micah paused in spreading raspberry filling and turned to look at Amanda with mock concern. “Third date? On Valentine’s Day? What are this guy’s intentions?”
She rolled her eyes, but smiled as if pleased with his concern. “Calm down, big brother. He’s not that kind of guy. He’s . . . sweet.”
“I’ve never seen him at church.” Five years ago, Micah never would have expected to be grilling someone about a potential suitor’s church attendance. But Amanda volunteered in the nursery at Community Fellowship and sang back up in the praise band on occasion. Her faith was important to her.
Amanda waved off his concern. “He goes to the Baptist church on the other side of town. But, he’s not exactly plugged in there, so he said he might visit Community Fellowship with me sometime.”
“Does he sing or play an instrument?”
Amanda laughed, “You and Hannah always trying to recruit people to the praise team. No, he isn’t musical at all. But he says he loves my voice.”
Amanda blushed again and a dreamy look came over her face. She hummed a little as they continued working, but inevitability she turned the romance talk towards Micah. He was surprised it had taken her this long, honestly.
“So, Micah, do you have any special plans tonight?”
“Yeah, I’m sure there’s a hockey game on tonight,” he answered dryly.
Amanda stopped what she was doing to turn towards him, a hand on her hip. “Micah, I have never seen you date, and it’s not right.”
“Why? I have my business, my son,” my former addiction he silently added. Getting clean and staying clean was a long, difficult process, and it was something few could understand.
“Yes, you’re successful, you’re a good father, you’re a good guy. And well, you’re no Eric, but you’re still not bad on the eyes.” Amanda flicked flour teasingly at him to punctuate her point.
“Oh, I can’t disagree with any of your points,” Micah teased back with a quirk of an eyebrow, “but perhaps I simply haven’t found the right woman.” Chloe’s face floated before his consciousness, but he tamped it down.
“Tina would say yes if you asked her out. I’ve seen the way she looks at you.”
Micah scoffed, “Not my type.”
“But Hannah and Kate told me you have a thing for blondes.”
Only one. Kate and Hannah knew that full well, too, but Amanda was too naïve not to read more into it. Micah straightened from his task carving the cake layers into the shape of the second turret and rolled his shoulders back. “Can we change the subject?”
Amanda may have been naïve, but she had also worked with Micah long enough to pick up on his moods. She made a comment about needing music to work and reached over to where her iPod was docked. When Carrie Underwood’s voice started crooning, he groaned.
“Amanda, what have I repeatedly said about country music?”
She chuckled, “Just teasing.” She switched it to the grunge station and Micah sighed happily as Pearl Jam thrummed through the speakers. “Although why depressing, angst-filled music makes you feel better, I’ll never know.”
Micah tilted his head to the side as Eddie Vedder sang She lies and says she’s in love with him, can’t find a better man, and thought Amanda had a point.
“Actually, you can turn it back. Carrie Underwood’s not so bad.”
***************************************************************
Micah parallel parked his truck into a space outside The Daymark, spotting Chloe’s car a few spaces ahead. Good, she’s still here. He’d replaced the cell phone Amanda had ruined yesterday, and he was glad he didn’t wait until Monday. Chloe’s voicemail sent relief flooding through him, but her text message . . . that had left him equal parts baffled and confused. He pulled it up to read one more time.
I haven’t heard back from you. I’m surprised because this is – you know – important? I’m meeting with the lawyer at The Daymark tomorrow at noon, and I’m hoping it’s all good news. Not that you care. You know, since you’re ignoring me?
Micah could understand Chloe feeling ignored. She was right, it was important news. And she didn’t know his phone was ruined. But if he was reading between the lines correctly – and he usually was where Chloe was concerned – she was upset with him about far more than that.
But he was here now to fix that. As soon as he’d gotten both messages, he had frantically checked his watch and raced to the diner to try and catch Chloe before she left. It was already two, so he had fully prepared himself to miss her. The sight of her car was a beautiful one.
Micah headed down the sidewalk and into the diner, inwardly rehearsing his apology. His eyes found Chloe immediately, and the sight froze him in his tracks. Her head was down, a pretty blush coloring her cheeks. The man across from her held her hands in his, thumbs brushing over Chloe’s knuckles in an intimate gesture. No wonder she was still here two hours later; this wasn’t a business meeting, this was a lunch date! Feeling foolish, Micah turned and headed straight back out the door. He thought he heard Chloe call out after him, but he wasn’t sure. And even if she was, he was too humiliated to face her.
Micah made his way quickly back to the truck, pulling out of his parking space blindly. He was lucky the street was empty. Adam Murray. How could he have been so stupid? The guy was exactly Chloe’s type, and a successful lawyer to boot. Not to mention they had been spending quite a bit of time together.
Micah’s leg started to throb like it hadn’t in years. He pulled over and took several deep breaths, kneading his leg hard with his left thumb. He tilted his head back and thought over all the ways he had learned to deal with the pain: exercise, meditation, prayer, his music. But he knew this pain was more mental – okay, emotional – than physical. So was the desperate desire to numb his pain the way he used to.
With trembling hands, he lifted his phone and hit Ryan Newton’s contact number. When his friend answered, he paused for a moment, and then with a shaky breath, said, “Busted.” He felt a little silly saying it – the code word was Ryan’s idea, though Micah wanted to call it something like “Screw-Up or “Family Disappointment” – but he had to admit he was glad he could convey his need without a lengthy explanation.
“Okay,” Ryan said without hesitation, “I’ll gather the troops. My place is full of rugrats. What about Beau’s man cave?”
“Negative. They’ve renovated it into a kid’s room.”
“Oh right, the adoption thing.”
“My place is fine. I’ll order us a pizza. You just call everyone. Is six good?”
“Yeah, but Logan and I will be there by five. You gonna be ok until then?”
Micah rubbed his leg; the pain was a little more bearable, but more importantly, his urge for pills was gone. “Yeah, but about Logan –“
“Micah!”
“Okay, okay. You’re right. Call Logan. See you at five.”
Micah hung up and slammed his palm hard against his steering wheel. Once an addict, always an addict. How many times had he heard that in rehab? He just really wished he was a stronger man. Maybe then Chloe wouldn’t be on a date with someone else.
*******************************************************
Ryan showed up promptly at five with a six pack of sodas.
“The good thing about your two best friends being a pastor and a recovered alcoholic is they don’t mind swinging back a few Cokes instead of beer,” Ryan quipped as he headed to the kitchen.
“What else have you got there?” Micah asked, gesturing to the plate in Ryan’s hand.
“Homemade chocolate chip cookies via Maggie.”
Micah grinned and grabbed a cookie and a soda just as Logan let himself in. “I come bearing turtle brownies!” he announced, frowning when he saw the cookies. “You guys better eat these too, or Rose won’t let me back in the house.”
“Don’t mind if I do,” Micah said, polishing off his cookie and reaching for a brownie. “The hockey game doesn’t start until 5:30, but the pre-game stuff should be on.”
Logan snatched the remote from Micah’s hand. “Not so fast. We need to talk about how you used the code word. Before Josiah and Beau get here.”
Micah groaned and fell back against the couch, running both hands through his hair. “Crisis averted, guys. Can we just leave it at that?”
“No, we can’t,” Logan said firmly. “That’s the whole point of me being your mentor, remember? Now what was your trigger? Emotional? Physical? Stress related?”
Emotional. He really didn’t want to get into this. But Ryan and Logan were both patient men, and the silence dragged on. “Chloe, okay. Are you happy?”
“Is this still the Scott thing?” Ryan asked across the kitchen island.
“No, he’s dropped that, thank God.”
“Well, that’s great news!” Logan enthused, slapping Micah on the knee. Micah thought about how Logan and Rose were the ones who introduced Chloe to Adam and suddenly had the irrational desire to punch his friend.
It fell quiet again as his friends waited for him to elaborate. “Chloe told me she was meeting with the lawyer today at The Daymark, so I thought I would stop by there. It wasn’t a meeting – it was a date.”
“And that bothers you?” Ryan asked.
Micah chuckled and craned his neck to look back into the kitchen where Ryan was leaning against the island. “Yes, it bothers me, Pastor Ryan. I’m a PK, remember? I know when you’re shifting into counseling mode.”
Ryan chuckled and made his way into the living area. “Sorry, then I’ll shift back to friend mode.” He plopped down into the recliner in the corner and leaned forward, resting his elbows on his knees. “Why don’t you just tell Chloe how you feel?”
Micah shook his head and looked down at his feet. He thought for a few minutes before looking back up at R
yan. “As much as I’ve hurt her, all I really want is for her to be happy. Adam is a good guy, so as much as it hurts . . . I can’t get in the way of that.”
Ryan narrowed his eyes, and Micah could tell the wheels in his head were turning. “Maggie and Chloe have gotten close, you know. I can’t say any-“
Micah held up one hand, “No need to explain. If anyone understands pastor confidentiality, it’s me.”
Ryan nodded once. “All I’ll say is, I still think you and Chloe need to have an honest talk.”
“When she has a shot at something better?”
“Wait a second,” Logan cut in, “who says Adam is better?”
“He’s never broken her heart, for one.” Micah sighed with relief when the doorbell rang. “That’ll be the pizza.”
He rose from the couch and addressed his two best friends as he walked backwards towards the door. “You’ve successfully talked me down off the ledge, so operation successful. Can we now drop the subject of my non-existent love life?”
Being men, they both shrugged and Ryan picked up the remote to turn to the game. Micah sighed with relief as he fished his wallet out of his back pocket and turned towards the door. His busted leg no longer throbbed with phantom pain. He had an arsenal of solutions at his disposal to deal with that kind of pain.
His busted heart was another story.

Cowboy Cricket Farms
Tumblr media
In second grade, James Rolin joined his class on a field trip to Knott’s Berry Farm. There, he bought a sucker with a cricket stuck in the middle. Little James was so excited to finally be allowed to eat a bug. That is, until the class bully snatched the sucker from James before he could even crunch into the cricket.
More than 20 years later, Little James - now all grown up - would get to eat a bug, in front of his own children. James and his family were strolling through the Gallatin Valley Mall and wandered into the toy store. James found a display of HotLix, the original form of candied bugs. You may have seen their Scorpion Pops or their Ant Wafers, but what caught James’s eye was their Cricket Lick-It Suckers.
Already being on the Cowboy Cricket Farm train, James wanted to check out the competition. He bought the cricket and gladly chomped down. James says, “[the suckers were] terrible, but I finally tried them and realized that the cricket wasn't the bad part.  It was the horrible and fake seasoning ingredients that sucked.”
That’s right. James says that the gross part of a Cricket Lick-It Sucker was not in fact the cricket, but the candy.
Now, James is the COO of Cowboy Cricket Farms, a company founded by him and his wife, Kathy Rolin.
Your children can now safely eat bugs just as they’ve always dreamt. James and Kathy’s own children eat crickets. Their oldest child, Elise, thinks of them as food just like any other snack in their cupboard. The youngest, Liam, loves the crickets so much he takes them to school with him. However, their middle child, Olive, will not eat them. “She says that they are all her pets!” James reports. I see a future vegan in her, but we’ll see.
However, if you are vegan, Cowboy Cricket Farms would ask you to consider your reasons for your diet before buying a bag of cricket snacks. If you are vegan to combat “ethical issues you see in the mass production and slaughter of animals” or to “curb the effects of corporate farming on our climate, you should be grabbing a bag of cricket snacks as we speak.”
Kathy Rolin attended MSU as a nutrition student. There, she found that crickets were a sustainable alternative to beef. Farming crickets - rather than cows - saves 2060x more water, uses 200x less land, and 14x less feed. Crickets even have 2x more iron, 43x more Omega 3s, and 2x more protein than beef.
Yep. You can say that “wow” again.
Still feeling iffy about the whole cricket-going-into-you-mouth thing? James will tell you that the cricket is a “gateway bug” that gets you comfortable with the concept of eating bugs. Cowboy Cricket Farms has created the Chocolate Chirp Cookie to help people try crickets in a familiar way. You won’t even notice that there are 30 powdered crickets in your cookie. Amazingly, the cookie has almost 10 grams of protein, and is a great pre- or post-workout snack. These cookies are handmade in Belgrade, Montana. One customer, Rebecca, even says the cookies are “Just like grandma used to make… Only with hidden protein goodness from our cricket friends.”
A lot of people ask if crickets taste like bugs. Cowboy Cricket Farms will give you this answer: “Well, does beef taste like cows? Yes, they're crickets! Now the best way we can describe the flavor is words like nutty, earthy, and almost fatty. The texture of dehydrated crickets can be compared to something along the lines of combining a sunflower seed with a potato chip. Plus, if you are curious to ask about the flavor, you might as well just pop one in your mouth and try it out!”
Here at the LaunchPad, we tried crickets! Watch to see what our team thought!
So, why are we chirping about crickets anyway?
Cowboy Cricket Farms competed in the 2017 John Ruffatto Business Startup Challenge. After Kathy wanted a sustainable food source offered to her community, the couple competed for some of the $50,000 prize money. Through their time at the competition, they gained the confidence that their idea was actually a good one. During their day at the JRBSC, they realized they had some tweaks to make in their company.
The way they present their company and products has turned to a more humorous tone. Sounds like a smart move to me. I’m not sure about you, but if someone was too serious about me eating a bug, nothing would send me running the other way quicker.
James wants to let future JRBSC competitors in on a tip. “Don’t worry about spreadsheets so much - tell a story.” And does Cowboy Crickets have a good story, or what?
If you’re sold on the crickets, jump on over to the veteran-owned-and-operated company’s site www.cowboycrickets.com to order your first batch of Chocolate Chirp Cookies today! Cowboy Crickets also offer Cricket Granola, and Smoky Jumpers - whole crickets dusted in a BBQ-esque seasoning. Use promo code VETS to get 15% off your order as well help to support veteran mental health programs.
If you’re interested in seeing the chirp for yourself, Cowboy Cricket Farms is opening its first tourable location in Bozeman across from the Story Mill on Bridger Canyon Drive. Doors open February 1st. You can find tour rates on their website as well.

Could I make a request please? Jesse and Gabe get into some sort of argument, and Jesse makes some sort of self-depreciating comment which makes Gabe freeze up bc his son shouldn't feel that bad about himself?
More family feels it is then!  Finally knocking a fic request out! Not taking any new ones until I get my current batch done, but progress is being made!Title:Self-Worth Rating: PG-13Relationship: Papa Gabriel and hisadopted cowboy sonTruth be told, Gabriel never did likegetting in arguments with people. Experience had taught him that nothing good ever came of anyargument ever had. There was only regrets and hurt feelings thatremained in the aftermath, building up resentment and poisoning everymoment of the relationship to come for a long time.
He might get angry at times, even comeoff as too blunt, but Gabriel never had been the one to try and incite afight and instead always tried to avoid the more explosiveconfrontations. With Jack, that was easy enough as the otherman wasn't too keen on getting into debates. At most they shared afew terse words and realized where things were headed and would optto come back later.
With Jesse though, once the boy wasriled up like an enraged bull, he came charging in again and againwithout hesitation, forcing Gabriel into a corner where all he coulddo was lash back out. “So that's it then? Just going totell me to do better and nothing more?” Jesse snap, “Just goingto give me that leering look of disapproval because every timesomething in a mission goes wrong, I'm the one to blame, that I'm thebiggest fuck up of my generation?!”
“I didn't say any of that Jesse!”Gabriel snapped back, “And I don't blame you every time. Maybe itseems like that because you are the one usually going to far duringthese missions! Always showboating and-”“Showboating amI?” Jesse snapped, “You mean doing exactly what you trained me todo?”Gabriel glared, “I didn't train you to do gun flipsand fancy draws like you are some sort of carnival gunslinger! Youadded that! You always are adding in stupid shit to training andnever taking it seriously!”
Jesse made a scoffing sound, “How canI take it seriously when you only use the kiddie gloves withme?”“Because it is clear enough I can't actually treatyou like an adult when you never act like one!” Gabriel  retortedharshly. He expected Jesse to fire back with some commentabout how he was mature for an eighteen year old, that as a youngadult he was far more grown-up than most people in Blackwatch. Thatwas the response that Gabriel had expected of the hot-blooded youth.Instead, Jesse merely looked aside, gritting his teeth as his handscurled into fists at his side. “Maybe I just act like onebecause I already grew up too fast and thought here at least, Iwouldn't just be another fucked up dirtbag,” he murmured.
The comment took Gabriel aback just abit and already the famliar guilt was creeping in. It was a bit of asurprise to hear Jesse talk like that. The boy had always talked abig game really, always posturing around like he had all theconfidence in the world. Maybe it was that attitude that made Gabrielforget at times that in reality, McCree was still a kid. A kid thathad had one fucked up childhood, had grown up to fast in a gang ofcutthroats and yet despite all that, still remained morally tied tohis own little code of ethics. McCree didn't need to grow up.He just needed to be allowed to grow.
Gabriel let out a soft sigh and movedto put an arm about McCree's shoulders, looking away, “You aren't adirtbag Jesse. Nor are you a fuck up. If anything, you are thesuccess story every Hollywood movie wants to tell. All the worldagainst you and somehow you still turned out all right,”Jessesnorted, “Yeah. Sure I did,”“Hey now, could be worse. You could be a racist ass, sitting and drinking yourself intooblivion, and have charges of murder against innocent bystanders, butyou don't,” Gabriel glanced down at McCree, “Even when with theDeadlock gang, you never killed anyone, did you?”Jesse gavea small shake o his head, “Never did. Aimed to wound, not kill.They... didn't like that,”“But it made you stronger tokeep doing it despite that. Just like you keep doing your own thingnow despite knowing it gets on my nerves,” he smiled a bit, “Youknow who you are and you don't change for anyone. You've got a lot ofcourage and a lot of spunk,”“Spunk? Good god Gabe, youare starting to sound like a sappy Hollywood movie now!” McCreeretorted, smiling just a bit now.“Heh, you bring out theworse emotional speeches I have to offer Jesse, and that's a fact,”Gabe retorted with a grin, pulling the young man's hat down a bit.Jesse just let out a soft laugh, pulling away with a shake ofhis head, “The worse and best I say! A little corny and all, butsometimes we still need those old tropes in life,”
“Maybe,”Gabriel chuckled, “Runoff then. I'll see you around dinner. Afterwards lets hang trainingand go out and get some fresh air. I think we all could use a littlebreak before we are at each other's throat again,”“Soundslike a plan to me,” Jesse gave a nod of his head, “Take care Gabeand....sorry about, you know, everything I said,”“You'refine kid. Think I had to hear a bit of what you had to say,” hesaid wit ha shrug. He watched Jesse scamper off and couldn'thelp but smile just a bit. Jesse  may be a brat at times, butat least, despite it all, he always remained true to who he was.

GURPS Encounters: Fort Faithful
Finally got this done, after a much too long delay! Sorry for all the waiting! This post is based around the awesome idea of Cowboys v Xenomorphs, so I kind of built a mini campaign world around that, stretching the meaning a little honestly, but I think it fits the spirit. This is more of a loose hook than adventure, just to clarify, I might work some more stuff out for it in the future though! Take a trip to Mars adjacent, the exotic....
Fort Faithful
Tumblr media
“Fort Faithful, as the name suggests it is a reliable and trusted outpost. Situated on the remote moon Deimos, in the Swift crater, from which the bounties of Mars flows through! Oh yeah did I mention this is set in an alternative universe where the 1860’s United States Government discovered space travel? Cause it is.”
Key Features: As mentioned Fort Faithful acts as a sort of in between, where the miners come and go, and then the hard earned minerals are sent on their way to the United States. The cause of this technological miracle? A strange series of artifacts discovered by covert activities into the heart of South America by a crew of military operatives back in 1841.
These artifacts seemed to be the remains of some past advanced culture, after many military skirmishes kept on the down low, spaceships, suits, even atmosphere controlling technology were plundered! So far in the current year of 1863 the general populace of Earth are unaware of this, as well as the massive amounts of precious minerals and further items being dug up on Mars to be shipped back to the U.S of A!
(TL 5 + a few higher TL artifacts recovered, listed below)
Population of Fort Faithful
Fort Faithful is crewed by a small group of thirty individuals, disgraced ex-soldiers and former ‘cowboys’ given a second chance and a heck of an adventure.
This rowdy bunch is ran by one General Matthew Faithful, a forty year old man, technically kicked out of the military, and also might be considered dead, by order of firing squad. His crime? Murder. Even with this most heinous of crimes he was chosen to lead. Matthew was the first to land off planet, and has been with the mining operation (titled Red Expedition) since its inception, even being granted the naming rights to fort! For cryptic reasons he insists that no base be constructed by the mines themselves, rather just temporary incursions. Perhaps from a deep paranoia regarding rumors about the Spanish securing spacecraft.
Fort Faithful’s Design
Atmosphere? Fort Faithful is kept in a breathable atmosphere by the grace of a strange energy shield. It somehow scrubs, extracts and maintains an earthlike atmosphere nearly anywhere! When in the void between planets it even generates a gravity field, allowing comfortable travel within the spaceships! When outside of the atmosphere the ‘crew’ use reverse engineered spacesuits (Vacc Suit, the only “extra feature” it however does have the Protected Hearing. Protected Vision and important breathing tech, the radios and such have not yet been figured out).
And Speaking of Space Ships! A handful of spaceworthy vessels were quickly recovered, as of yet no reverse engineering on these have succeeded but the scientists were able to figure out how to work them! The batch specifically recovered carefully, slowly, and stealthily were three Star Freighters (pg 465 GURPS Campaigns), some rumors abound that the Spanish have found even more and are currently learning how to use them! As for their fuel, no scientist has been able to comprehend the engines, it seems like some kind of perpetual motion device, a few even theorize it manipulates a variety of energy undetectable by modern tech.
Guns, Guns, Guns! A rare few extraordinary items have been uncovered on Mars. Most are sent back to Earth, but the truly practical examples are under lock and key in the Armory (and one is at the General’s side). These discovered weapons are: 1 Electrolaser Pistol with 179 shots (pg 280 Characters), 2 Laser Rifles with 30 shots each (pg 280 Characters), and 1 Gyroc Pistol with 6 shots (pg 278 Characters) discovered so far and more being reverse engineered. The Electrolaser Pistol is currently under the General’s control, he hasn’t yet used it beyond the test shot, but is looking forward to it!
For conventional weaponry they have quite a stock pile, consisting of thirty Cartridge Rifles (.45) and around two thousand shots. Plenty of axes, knives, etc. to be found here as well.
Fort Section One (Courtyard): An ‘open air’ section, really just a walled in landing pad. One of those energy shields keep the air in, the ships and people are somehow able to easily pass through without disrupting the strange tech. So this is where all the business comes and goes for Fort Faithful, miner crews leave and return every nine earth hours, while cargo is comes by every thirty earth hours (dropping off food and picking up minerals).
Fort Section Two (The Church): Set off to the side of the courtyard this area is more of an afterthought really, just a small church. There is no priest on Fort Faithful yet, but rumors are spreading that the General is reaching out for one, maybe to scare some of the rougher workers. It also acts as a medical area, for accidents and the like.
Fort Section Three (Interior Storage): A maze of barrels, crates and sacks, the interior storage is only accessible through the bunkhouse. This is where all the rations, water and just general goods for the Fort are kept. Though it is odd, no artifacts are kept here, rather they are stored in the Armory, since most act as advanced weaponry.
Fort Section Four (Bunkhouse):  Composed of a few separate rooms, giving a small amount of privacy. The General is particular has his own private quarters.
Fort Section Five (Armory): The heart of the Fort, here are the plethora of weapons gathered up for the Fort’s defense. General Faithful has constant armed presence and is quickly figuring out the uncovered alien artifacts for the purposes of fighting off a possible Spanish invasion. Tons of blackpowder and conventional firearms are stacked up as well, how useful they are in space battles is yet to be known.
Important Quick Stats
General Matthew Faithful
From a decent family, Matthew Faithful worked his way up the ranks of government so many years ago. Not through any decisive battle, but through thoughtful consistency and following the rules. Which is why it was so surprising when he went off and slaughtered a rival in full view of four dozen men. It was not a pretty death either, supposedly the low ranking grunt made a crude comment about Matthew’s long deceased daughter. It seems his overall loyalty to the U.S Government was rewarded, with him avoiding firing squad and embarking on a journey to the stars!

Fort Worker
The crew of Fort Faithful is made up entirely of those with troubled pasts, bandits, insubordinate grunts, some ‘lucky’ card cheats, etc. While one would think this would make the Fort run as smooth as sandpaper, General Matthew is able to force these lowlifes into a half way manageable force. They seem to be under the impression that the good General would boot them into the void of space if they acted up…

The Swarm
The dark force of the solar system, perhaps even the universe. They are as locusts to space faring people, living on meteors, lonely moons, and lifeless worlds, when they detect the roar of engines, the flash of heat, they awake, starting a swarm of gluttonous rage. Eventually they do return to slumber, but only after they sate their hunger. Due to the travels of some mysterious past people the solar system was cleansed. Eventually the Swarm died out on Earth, some strange plague as a karmic vengeance swept through those Swarm still feeding on humanity’s future crib. Those on the other planets didn’t die though, still lurking, to feed!
Physically they are quite terrifying, pale, gray flesh, harder than many metals. Eyeless oblong heads, which open to startling widths, filled to the brim with short, sharp teeth. A gangly, chimp like form, arms twice the creature’s height, of which is about six foot. Its hands are equipped with three long fingers, tipped in black talons. Members of the Swarm possess on top of all this physically prowess an unnatural regenerative ability, if one doesn’t kill them quick they won’t do so at all. They are killable though! The worst part about the beasts are their reproductive systems, laying eggs within the dead or dying. A single Swarm dweller can lay up to ten eggs a day. These eggs hatch within a week and become full-fledged adults after a month!

Skills: Brawling-14
Story Hook: The Swarm
Attracted to the Fort’s lifeforms the inhuman monstrosities that prowl our solar system are ready to feed! Perhaps the pcs are soldiers posted at the Fort, fleeing some dark past or thirsty for adventure. Maybe they’re some of the brightest minds of the U.S Government, eager to figure out the eerily advanced tech of Mars. Any method will do, what really matters is the events that occur!
It starts with an odd disappearance, a few Fort members go out to explore Deimos a bit. After three days General Faithful decides it isn’t just lollygagging! Turns out the Swarm is finally waking from the construction activities on Deimos, and Mars! Within the next few hours the Swarm attacks, having finally found their way to the Fort. Crawling in through the shields and basically tearing up anything and one they come across. Four of the Swarm are active on Deimos, sixteen more arrive over the course of a week if the Fort still stands. Mars is hit even worse, as the mining crew (four this batch) unearth an entire horde of the things! Hundreds of the Swarm!
Stay flexible, no real set in stone plan, the creatures chase the pcs and other crew through the Fort, but aren’t very bright. Sneaking past is most definitely an option for the clever. The creatures will not rest until every living being on the Fort is devoured, with their massive damage resistance, regeneration and strength that is a definite possibility.
The Orders
General Faithful will attempt to make a final stand, the starting number of active healthy crew numbers perhaps 16 (not counting pcs). So he decides to systematically sweep the Fort and annihilate the creatures. After half the crew is dead, and/or the General someone will bring up simply escaping with the spaceship and leaving the Fort to the creatures! Of course one of the Swarm may tag along… and they require no mate to reproduce.

Tues 3/7 to Wed 3/8, 2017
It’s Rodeo time in Houston! People going to and coming from.
When I leave the driver app on when I go to the airport, I sometimes get ride requests, sometimes they’re good (like they want to go downtown or to the airport), and sometimes they’re not so good (like they want to go to the store or home from school). Two of these killed an hour and netted me a whole $5.48, and put me an hour behind schedule in getting to the airport waiting lot.
4:02pm. After an hour of waiting at the airport lot for an arrival, the app crashed and put me all the way back at the end of the queue. I didn’t want to wait another hour so I left and started driving home. I lucked into a surge right in my part of town, for some reason, and found a guy (at 2.7x) who was going home from his job at The Cheesecake Factory. He likes working there as a cook, and his favorite/specialty is sauteeing. He used to work at the Olive Garden but their stuff is more frozen and premade than where he works now, and he likes how everything is fresh at Cheesecake Factory. When it’s slow or late at night, the cooks get to try different things to see what might taste good; they whipped up a homemade batch of funnel cake batter one night and fried them up with some powdered sugar. I suggested that the managers reward creative thinking like that by trying some new items off the menu. They make all of their cheesecakes from scratch, but he doesn’t eat them because he once had a bad experience (not at the restaurant) involving cheesecake and lots of alcohol, and it’s a mental thing now.
2:12pm. Guy at the airport wants to go to his condo on Allen Parkway west of downtown. No luggage. For 22 minutes he says nothing, looking either out the window or at his phone. The only other thing he said to me was giving me directions at the very end of the trip as Google Maps puts you at the back entrance of the condo building for some reason. Not everyone is good conversation.
2:39pm. A block down the street, two people want to go back to their hotel near Rice University to change. Their boss told them to take the afternoon off and go to the Rodeo, which they don’t normally see since they’re based in NYC. They asked me what kind of stuff goes on at the Rodeo, I replied that they’ll see livestock, fried foods, Western clothing to buy (cowboy hats, boots, jeans, shirts, etc.), more fried foods, rodeo stuff, and a concert. They thought the whole thing was so funny.
2:53pm. Rice University freshman history major. I asked what she planned to do with her degree – “cry over my piles of massive debt”. She’s leaning towards the Modern Era (post WWI through the end of the 20th century) and thinks that she might want to join the Foreign Service at the State Department, working in embassies all over the world. The career diplomats work 2-3 years at a particular embassy post, then get rotated to gain experience. At least one of the postings will be a “hardship” post somewhere. She came to Houston from LA because she wanted to go to a smaller but still prestigious school.
3:10pm. Guy near Kirby and 59 (just west of downtown) is getting off his job working for Houston Community College, but is heading to Sugarland for his second job (far southwest) as a bartender. He’s already the assistant manager and gets paid well with nice tips at this bar, as compared to one closer in, so that’s why he travels so far. But he had to take an Uber because his brother drove his own car into standing water with the rain over the weekend and flooded it, and then he drove my passenger’s car but locked the keys in it. I said I’d think twice about lending my car to the brother if I were him. He’s an immigrant from Venezuela and is working two jobs so he can afford to bring his parents in.
4:17pm. Drove back into town, picked up two buddies in Midtown who wanted a ride to the stadium for the Rodeo. Cody Johnson is playing and they’re big fans, but also their friend is in the Army at Ft Hood and today is Armed Forces Appreciation Day at the Rodeo, and they bussed in a bunch of people from Ft Hood for free. So they were going to hang out with their Army buddy. They’re regulars at the Rodeo, going a few times each year depending on who’s singing.
4:44pm. Made the mistake of trying to pick someone up near the stadium, a guy was at a Fiesta Mart just a mile in the opposite direction, but I had to take a long way to make a u-turn while sitting in traffic (rush hour plus Rodeo). After I picked him up he told me to take Old Spanish Trail and avoid the 610 Loop, but I showed him that Google Maps said I could save 8 minutes by taking the freeway. Google lied, it ended up being 15 minutes longer than they originally told me it would take. Took 31 minutes to go 6.29 miles. I think the guy was mad because I listened to Google instead of him, he didn’t speak to me for the whole ride. But he didn’t seem mad when I dropped him off, so who knows.
