Probably Hiatus til August

Yeah so-- Artfight is the month of July. It's kinda pointless to get back into RP when Artfight starts up and I'll be putting any spare energy into it. I don't wanna bail this year like I have prior years. I want to do more than just one or two attacks and then conk. It will also motivate me to do more than just Nikolai. Cuz he's all I've been drawing is Nikolai lol.

I'm not gonna attempt to get back into writing with artfight. I might pick at some asks or drafts here and there. But it won't be my focus. AFTER artfight, I'll actually try to get into writing again and make an actual attempt to get back into it.

despite being a haughty deviant, tobias is actually very serious about his gameplay, strategies, and reputation as the captain of the jujak quidditch team

he’s not unfair but will hold you accountable

will not lecture or be stern but that’s because he expects everyone to act like actual adults with brains. give him respect and he gives you respect. give him trust and he gives you trust. 

if you ignore practice, his words or instructions as captain, or do anything to jeopardize anyone on the team or the team in general, he will put his foot down and you will deal with the consequences ( he will bench you or put you on suspension )

he doesn’t go out of his way to intimidate his teammates of these expectations. they are what they are - expectations that everyone should be aware of

in all, can promise he’s a good leader and captain whether you’re actually friends with him or not

Activity PSA- May thru Mid-August

Hey!

So some of you may or may not know, I graduated this May. And my profession rewards recent graduates by having them basically taking a licensing exam at the end of July (aka the Bar Exam). And I have to study hard for it because I need to pass the first time for many, many reasons. This means that my activity will be low, and I will be exhausted when I do manage some free time. So I will appreciate your understanding if me getting replies out slows.

For those who don’t know, in order to properly study I have to study a MIMINUM of 60 hours a week (Aka either 12 hour days 5 days a week or 10 hours a day 6 days a week), which means I will be doing more than that and at times may accidentally go radio silent on Tumblr.  My plan is to front load the beginning of the week with a bunch of studying and then taper off towards the end of the week so I can sleep in a bit and hopefully be up enough to get replies out once I finish studying. I HIGHLY recommend that you add me on discord (ellabellawinters#6593) and/or temp/perm move threads if you want quicker responses until mid-August.

What this DOES Means:

-        Lower activity from me- I don’t know how I will manage, some weeks I may be more active than others

-        You should talk to me if you have any questions or concerns

-        You should definitely talk to me and rp with me during this time, I will be alone in my apartment in my own mind for weeks on end I would appreciate it honestly

-        I am going to attempt my own version of a thread tracker with a spread sheet bc I am a nerd.

-        I may come talk to you ooc a bit more about threads to keep up my muse or make sure I am not totally brain dead from all that knowledge being shoved into head.

-        I still love all my partners, but my muse just might be picky with how exhausted I am.

-        I am est time and am trying to not be up until 2am unless its an off day the next day. 

-        I am going to try and post/reblogs a lot of opens, memes,  and starter calls, PLEASE if you are interested like, reply, or send something in so I know you’re still interested in rping with me.

-        You are bothering me with replies: rp is something I do to relax and love to do

-        I am unwilling to take on new / more threads: Absolutely not. I actually highly encourage having multiple threads with me/sending me memes as it helps keep my muse up and allows you to get something from me at one time of another.

HOW I RUN MY BLOG

SPEED: my god i am slow. i am the slowest of the slow - the slowest slow to ever BE slow. i have threads in here from two months ago and asks from three months ago and it’s not that i don’t have the will nor the muse to answer any of it tbh. it’s more so that i just don’t have time. between juggling work, friends, family and the additional need of trying to make up my overtime hours for the dates i’ll be overseas in august and october, it’s been more than a little difficult to try to keep everything afloat. that’s one of my issues. 

my second issue is that i... tend to try to write in depth threads and responses, as much as possible; and i’m a perfectionist of my work to the worst degree. to the point that if i don’t have the right idea or the right flow of words at the time - my work is not getting posted. at all. in fact, i’d likely rather delete something i spent two hours working on rather than take the risk of posting it only to hate it for the rest of my life. it feels like shame for some reason i don’t ??? get it ???

like i want to try to create variety, but also i want to try to build an actual story. something that will be fun for both me and my partner, that will be a thread that will have some possible semblance of weight to future interactions. and sometimes the ideas don’t come as quickly as i would like. or they do, and then my brain runs out of vocabulary. and throttles a pillow i hate it, i hate that my standards for myself are like this, but my god - it’s the only way i can be confident about my work and know that i’m not wasting mine or anyone else’s time and it just has to be my own standard of perfect or i run myself into the ground with my anxiety and have a minor breakdown and that’s the worst thing i can do to myself, honestly asdbhsabdha !!!

REPLIES: i write long replies, unfortunately. though i never expect people to match ( and honestly it fluctuates; sometimes it’ll be long, sometimes short, so there’s no pressure or requirement at all really ) , and all i care about at this point is i’m given something to work with and it’s not the kind of thing where it’s a reply for the sake of a reply. i also would prefer to have threads where people add stuff to the threads, and like... i don’t really have to run the show by myself to keep things interesting? that would be nice tbh. in terms of length however, i will likely do at least two or three paragraphs, because one paragraph threads don’t quite encompass everything my muse tends to feel, and sometimes it can get longer - meaning like... two word document pages long. though that type of novella is usually reserved for people i know can match it, otherwise, i try my best to keep it as succinct as possible. 

my brain sorta has this.... organization thing going tbh? where its like i can only do ask replies today, or i can only do threads today, or i can only do headcannon or ooc stuff today. sometimes it even goes by verse, where it decides if it can manage pokemon threads, or main threads, or fate threads, etc. which i understand isn’t quite the... best way to go about things, and it’s weird. very, very weird. but that’s also really the only way i’m able to sort of figure out where to put my attention nowadays. so everything gets replied to in truth, it just. it takes a while. :c :c :c please be patient with me, i’m trying my best!! 

STARTERS: i hold starter calls a lot. sometimes it can be every two months or it can be ( most likely ) when i get a new influx of followers and i want to interact with them. though it can tend to take a while for me to get them out, even if i have them on a list. usually its because i want to try to create starters that will be interesting enough to keep going ( which is sorta my overall theme with everything on here, if you’ll notice ) and sometimes the ideas don’t quite click. or, like with the organization thing, my brain needs to be able to conjure up starters in particular for anything to work. 

more often, i will do inbox calls instead, and those i do personalize according to the muse i’m sending it to. that way if the other mun replies with a response i like, i can continue it into a thread, so that’s sorta like a reverse starter call in that way, i guess. i always clear out my starters owed though, i promise. it just takes me a good while. 

INBOX: sucks in sharp breath 

i’m gonna be way honest here - once upon a time, i didn’t get that many asks at all, so i thought like, if i got like 20 of them, that already was a heck ton and i had to get the number lower. and then somehow i got an influx in asks a few weeks ago and that number jumped to thirty. and then it kept going until forty. and then i thought ‘okay you know what, so long as its not 50, you can still get it down, you’re good!!’  

let me tell you - i am at 76 right now and i am confused as all fuck as to how it got to this point. BUT I HONESTLY DON’T MIND. i love getting asks !! even if i take a while to answer them, because like the starters, i try to give it an actual moment and not a quick snip of an interaction that doesn’t matter in the long run. so asks? same length - two or three paragraphs and more, nothing less. and i tend to do anons first because i know whoever sent it might check back and i don’t want them scrolling through the whole blog thinking they missed it, but tbh, i try to do my older asks first overall. and sometimes there are some asks that require a lot of emotion on jackie’s part, so those get long and take a wee bit longer than most, but i always try to make the wait worth it. luckily, things appear to be going kinda well on that end tbh. i have a good pace set up so i don’t feel like i’m drowning in stuff, and if i could just have ONE DAY WHERE I CAN WORK, I CAN CUT BACK THAT NUMBER EASY, I SWEAR TO GOD.

but on that note, please. feel free to send me anything you like at any time, i’ll get to it asap, even if i have six asks for you in my inbox still from past memes. and tbh, i’d rather i always have the option available to answer that particular interaction rather than leave it so it never happens no matter what. so always remember, as always -

SELECTIVITY: severely selective. to the nth degree. i follow about less than 180 rp blogs because the rest are aesthetics at the moment, though i’m always looking for more. i try to find blogs with muns that i feel really care about their muse as a whole, and blogs that have a pretty good grasp on writing. i decide whether or not i can make jackie work with them somehow, and then i sorta check the writing itself to make sure i can jive with it, and then that’s when i decide to follow. 

i have. a very particular standards with other blogs that need to be checked off tbh? because i want these interactions to actually matter. so besides the writing, honestly the thing that rings out the most for me would be their passion and their ideas. like, i want to make sure i can create something new with this mun so i just try to see if they will match what i give them with their own ideas, because coming up with a majority of the plots on my own is the most exhausting thing, and i can’t do that consistently. if i can get that sense from them that they’re willing to try to push their own ideas forth, that’s really what makes me follow them back asap !! on the other hand, i also check the mun - make sure they’re not the type i’ll likely have trouble with down the line. i check tags, i check ooc posts, i check everything. i am a self proclaimed blog stalker and tbh, its the only way i keep my dash in check. and so far its worked out very well so it’s all good on my end, even if that means less people to interact with.

HOW DO YOU RUN YOUR BLOG

SPEED: i used to be pretty fast, but i’ve been slowing down lately and only doing one or two replies a day -- if that -- because i’m trying to focus on school, and tumblr hasn’t been the best place to be lately. when i do post, it’s mostly just replies or snake-related commentary / headcanons, and i’ll also do one or two of those a day if i can. so like... slow turnaround, especially on ask memes.

REPLIES: that being said, i still try to put out quality content, and i hope my characterization hasn’t gotten worse since i’ve stopped churning out replies daily. i think what i’d like to focus on most is making sure that my prose matches my character. i’ve been reading a lot of old french lit lately + plenty of academic texts, so sometimes my replies can get a little thick, and i have to be careful that i don’t overdo it, because i feel like the sort of flowery language that i’m reading and using in class doesn’t fit snake at all. that’s another contributing factor to my slowness honestly; i’m taking more time to make sure that my school writing doesn’t leak into my snake writing.

STARTERS: i like to put out a starter call and reblog it a few times before i actually write anything, but i’ll only post one if i’m in the mood. if i think i’m just going to be sticking to the threads i have, i won’t ask for more. on the other hand, i do occasionally put up calls for one liners and short threads; i do this when i want to write but don’t want to commit or think too much. as for starters people post for me, i love them and would like more.

INBOX: i try to answer all of the ic asks that come into my inbox; they take priority. character-related ooc comes next, then crack, then just ooc. i know there’s a LOT that i haven’t answered, but i don’t feel too bad about it given the amount of memes i reblog. if i miss a handful of asks, people are welcome to just send in more. however, i know that this can be disheartening, so if i know i’ve missed several memes in a row from one person, i’ll prioritize them.

SELECTIVITY: i’m semi-selective, and as i sort of turn down the dial on my activity, i tend to gravitate more towards characters that i already know. with school being what it is ( and it is really overwhelming ), i don’t really have time to watch new movies / play new games / read new books, especially since so many of my classes are heavy on films and reading. there are also some characters that i just... don’t like, and have no interest in interacting with. i feel a little bad since there aren’t any other snakes that i’m aware of out there and some people may be coming to me because they love the character, but please understand that it’s difficult when i lack the time and, in the case of shows i’m not at all interested in, the motivation to go through hours of content to be on a level where i feel like i can rp. i know that snake goes into a lot of interactions blind, but i like to at least have an idea of what’s going on before i start. as for ocs / fan characters / etc., it’s a case by case basis. i am not mutual exclusive.

WISHLIST ITEM: i’d like to rp with a reaper or darth vader consistently because i love snake interacting with big bads.

HONEST NOTE: i like to consider myself a friendly person, but i’m kind of pulling away from tumblr right now. in addition to everything that’s happened in the past couple of weeks ( which i’m sure the entire rpc noticed ), i lost my grandmother in august and i’m struggling to focus on my schoolwork without the distraction that writing provides. normally i would say that it’s good to do something other than work and think about the loss, but when i’m operating with this little energy, all of it has to go into school first. i’m also intent on cutting back on ooc posts like this one because i just... don’t like the idea of being an internet ‘personality’ anymore, i guess. i’m just here to write.

How do you run your Blog?

Speed: I’m pretty steady most of the time. Though starting next month (August) that steadiness will be quite less and my reply speed will be varied. I will admit I can respond to some threads quicker than others just because they’re what my muse wants to do and I try to listen to her and sometimes said threads also jump start my muse and writing mojo if I’m struggling. But I would say over all my speed is steady and average.

Replies: Most of my replies are multi paragraph, a few drop to a little less sometimes, but the average is multi. The not average is the novella length. I have only a few of those, which makes me a little sad because honestly those tend to be the ones my muse gravitates towards most, but not everyone can write like that, and that’s fine, it’s not that big of a deal. But even more rare and usually reserved for cracky and fun things or random opens are one liners, but otherwise for serious rp I’ve done my best to get away from those for various reasons. 

Starters: Sometimes I think about tossing out a deal for starters, but usually I don’t get many bites and right now I’m pretty loaded with threads so I’m not doing any calls, etc for a while, especially with it getting towards the Holiday season and my time will be lessened on here and while normally I don’t mind mutuals tagging me in them randomly, right now I would have to say no go again because of my thread count and again my free time going down.

Inbox: It’s usually sad and lonely unless I reblog a meme that attracts attention once in a blue moon. It’s mostly open to just mutuals only for rp purposes, but as far as questions go for mun and muse it’s open to anyone for those.

Selectivity: Extremely. My blog is private and mutuals only. I have become more and more picky and choosy about who I follow or follow back. I know it comes off as elitist, but if it’s clear our styles aren’t going to match then I don’t see a reason for following, sorry. Also I have other reasons besides this for my decisions on following people or even unfollowing. It is what it is, you control your experience and I control mine and I make that very clear in my guidelines. 

Wishlist item: Aaah, actually I’m sitting pretty good there actually for now, I honestly can’t think of anything. I’m pretty darn lucky, I’ve got good partners who like my ideas when I do have them.

Honest note: I am a dork honestly. A goofball with a twisted sense of humor. Just ask anyone you see me writing with regularly and they will confirm this. So if we’re mutuals, don’t be intimidated by me. Also to my partners I love you all and I don’t know where I’d be without a lot of you. Thank you for putting up with me. <3

HIATUS & PERSONAL  UPDATE.

okay so its time to come clean here & be honest with ya’ll about why i haven’t been here lately in the past little while.  before is start i just wanted to say that i did post a few starters to the dash i went through my call  &  slapped down a few . i may do some more tomorrow otherwise the rest will be done after my vacation .  as this blog is gonna be going on another hiatus ( yes another one ) till sometime mid august . i will post updates for you all in the meantime when i am able .  i will be out of the country from the 15th-2nd & i am heading off on vacay again on the 4th till when i am not sure. again i will keep you updated .   i have kept track of the likes so if you liked the call you will get a starter soon i promise  !!! 

now to explain things .   little bit personal under the cut . if ya’ll only care about hiatus stuff  then you can stop now . but for people that are curious about me  &  why i am not here anymore read under . 

star wars became my home away from home. i was introduced to his before tfa but it didn’t become a love of mine till after viewing the new film . at the time my main fandom was particularly toxic  --- &  it sucked cos there was nowhere else to really go & forget things for a little while .  i joined the rp community in jan 2016  &  it was shakey at first but then it got better & became something i could feel safe in completely    .     

my health started declining last year slowly  &  it got worse . maybe its cos i knew my show was ending ( my old main fandom ouat )  &  it just brought me down . writing han was great & an escape but it wasn’t enough to make me truly happy .   

guys i have been searching for so long for a place i can feel so happy  &  connected in , in terms of rp . twice i thought i found it .  but i was wrong.    i am forever thankful for all the friends i formed here & all the connects i have made to last a life time . so many beautiful writers here & souls that just have touched me so much . i love you all from the bottom of my heart so thank you .   you have touched my life .   but i need to be honest  . here in star wars is not my place .     

i discovered the trek fandom in december of 2016   & i just --- it truly changed my life . never have i been able to connect with characters so well & channel myself into them so well . it has been the greatest copping mechanism for me ; never have i felt like this in a long time . i am not better mentally  -- but i am keeping going   . &  guys it just feels right there .  writing spock  & leonard & even carol . it just makes me so incredibly happy   &  i just i found where i belong guys --- i really thing i have .   

i love you all & i love han .  & this is no way me saying i am leaving . i don’t think i can let han fade forever cos i love him too much . hes my son & i love him . i will love him & this community forever & always but the fact is i feel sometimes unsafe here ( many things have happened ; changed my perspective on things )    its no longer my true escape .   its an imporant part of me but its no longer the piece of me that keeps me going . 

i love all my friends i have made here thank you for making my time here this special.  so basically to sum up . i won’t be prioritxing my time here . i’ll be here when i can . when the muse strikes & just chill  &  have fun .   -- i just wanted you all tooo know what was up with me & why i haven’t been here ,   there is also a fact i can’t write han too too well when i am unwell . so thats a factor 

i thank you all for understanding . & i am sorry if i disappointed any of you along the way . i will strive to do better .  but for now i am happy with what i have & wanted you all too know .   well thats it i guess .  see you when i see you friends   * blows kisses *

Pressing Questions: The Chicago White Sox

Whatever else you want to say about Chicago’s offseason, you certainly can’t call it boring. General manager Rick Hahn has already dealt two of his team’s most valuable assets, Chris Sale and Adam Eaton, and there’s every reason to believe that additional trades are in queue. In fact, the only way the Sox could really surprise us at this point would be to not make another deal (or two) before spring training is in full swing.

With this squad, there’s one obvious pressing question we need to address at the top…

Q: Exactly how well did the Sox do in the Sale and Eaton deals, and when will we see the players they acquired?

First of all, let’s acknowledge that the White Sox did as well as could be reasonably expected in each trade, acquiring elite, high-level prospects and restocking a talent-scarce farm system. Sale is of course one of the game’s filthiest pitchers and his contract is remarkably team-friendly ($38M/3Y remaining). But he’s also the dude who sliced up all those throwbacks in a weird pregame tantrum, so it’s possible he’s not a daily ray of sunshine. And Eaton, for all his skill, is the goof who referred to Adam LaRoche’s teenage son/clubhouse exile as a team leader. Perhaps change was welcomed by all parties.

Again, there’s no denying that Chicago’s prospect haul was significant. Let’s review the three key pieces:

Yoan Moncada – Added in the Sale trade, Moncada ranks among the top position prospects in the game. He’s a versatile switch-hitting infielder with silly bat speed, terrific wheels and exceptional on-base ability. Last season, he slashed .294/.407/.511 across two minor league levels, swiping 45 bags and delivering 52 XBHs in 106 games. He’s great, a future top-of-the-order hitter and potential all-star. Moncada scuffled a bit in the majors last September, striking out a dozen times in 19 at-bats, but that’s no reason to bet against him long-term. He’ll clearly play at the big league level this season, perhaps early.

Michael Kopech – As many of you know, Kopech throws the ball a zillion miles an hour. There’s no denying his raw talent. He struck out 86 batters in 56.1 innings at Single-A last year, delivering a 2.08 ERA and 1.10 WHIP. Some of you first heard of him when he was popped for using a stimulant in 2015 and suspended for 50 games. Or perhaps he became known to you when he broke his pitching hand during an altercation with a teammate in 2016. Or maybe you first took notice when the kid hit 105 mph on the radar gun last season. He’s a bit of a carnival ride, but rarely boring. Command has been an issue for Kopech, but he’s only 20. If he can’t stick as a starter, he certainly has closing-quality heat.

Lucas Giolito – No, the production didn’t match the hype last season in Washington, as Giolito didn’t miss many bats (6.3 swinging strike rate). He definitely lost a bit of his prospect buzz. But in fairness to Giolito, the Nats had him on an organizational carnival ride last year. This is still a kid who’s dazzled in the minors, and he’s flashed a big fastball in the past. Chicago doesn’t offer a pitcher-friendly home park, unfortunately, and the 2016 version of Giolito’s stuff won’t do. Still, as the centerpiece of an Eaton trade, he was a great get. If he delivers a strong spring, we’ll see him soon.

Additionally, the Sox acquired a few lesser-yet-useful arms in their deals with Boston and Washington (Reynaldo Lopez, Dane Dunning, Victor Diaz), plus the team added a low-level centerfield prospect with pop and speed (Luis Alexander Basabe). It’s tough to argue that Chicago didn’t do well.

Q: There’s no way the Sox are finished trading, right? Who’s the next brand-name vet to go?

It has to be Jose Quintana. He’s been a rumored trade target for the Astros, Yankees, Pirates and Braves, and no doubt other teams are interested as well. Quintana has pitched 200-plus inning in four straight seasons, producing consistently solid fantasy ratios and K-rates (7.8 K/9 in 2016). If he’s not an ace, he’s at least the next best thing. He’s 27 years old and under team-control at a bargain cost for the next four seasons, too. He should net the Sox another fun pile of prospects.

For a retooling squad like Chicago, it’s safe to assume that David Robertson, Todd Frazier and Melky Cabrera can be had. Jose Abreu has been the subject of trade speculation, but he’s good, marketable and relatively inexpensive, so the team would presumably need a wow-offer. It seems safe to assume that James Shields is available to anyone willing to come haul him away. By the time the calendar flips to August, this team’s roster should look radically different.

Q: Any sleepers on the South Side?

Sure. Tim Anderson can be the answer to your steals problem, fantasy owner. He stole 49 bags at Double-A in 2015, and 21 bases in 27 attempts at two levels last year. He’s a special variety of fast. He also drew just 21 bases on balls in 687 plate appearances in 2016, so he’s likely to be a liability in OBP leagues. But as a category specialist with middle-infield eligibility, he’s a person of interest in our game.

Q: You personally have been a huge Brett Lawrie supporter in years past, Behrens. What are the chances that he final–?

Shut up. We’re done here.
