Mating of The Largest Moth species of India - Atlas Moth. Also one of the largest moths in the world, a beautiful lepidopteran species.
Those who love nature and wildlife often remain disappointed about the creatures and life they haven't been able to witness so far, and so was I. One such species, which I didn't come across (until yesterday) in a living state (I have seen its specimen previously) was this moth.
But, what a sight to behold it was. I got to see not one but two individuals of it, and their mating.
We were heading towards Kalu waterfall (Malshej Ghat). It was raining continuously. And just beside the pathway, from which some 250-300 tourists must have passed (to and fro) on that day, I was able to spot these two (and I indeed take a pride in it). They must have been in this state for more than one and half hour, at least, I saw them at the same spot while returning, too.

You mentioned volcarona in the tags of that one post. If Im remembering correctly, Volcarona may be loosely based on the Atlas Moth
Tumblr media
The largest moth in terms of wingspan. I love bug pokemon, nearly every single one is based on some sort of real world equivalent (caterpie being a spicebush caterpillar, heracross being a japanese rhinoceros beetle, snow being a jewel caterpillar etc etc)
-
yep! i actually went directly to check what volcarona was based on right after i rbed that post lol. i luv when pokemon draw insp from animals real or mythological <3

hi!!! <33 lovely moth? you have there :)
fun facts time:
just like butterflies they have a proboscis! which is kinda like a straw? which is a feeding & sucking mouthpart, so yknow it sucks & feeds :) they use it to get nectar out of flowers mostly. that means that they also pollinate some flowers :))
just like with butterflies, some species do not eat as adults, this is bc they only live for like a week after becoming adults & they have food stores left over from being a caterpillar & eating nonstop almost
a moth i currently love a lot is the white witch moth, one of the largest moth species in the world, and i know they arent as pretty as atlas moths, but theyre still gorgeous to me <3 we dont know much about them at all, we dont even know what they look like before reaching adulthood.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
also! there are moths whose caterpillars live under water :) a lot of them are only partially aquatic, they might spend a lot of time above water too, or bring air down with them. my favourite aquatic moths are snout moths, some of which are delightfully stupid looking :)))
Tumblr media Tumblr media
there's also a recently discovered parasitic wasp that lays eggs inside caterpillars, that feed on water plants. it even dives under :) its called the microgaster godzilla

Tell me about moths, please!
I LOVE YOU YAKKO /P
GOT ME SQUEALING AND KICKING MY FEET HEHEHE
people think all moths eat clothes but that's not true at all! Only certain types of moth larvae eat clothes because it has the nutrients they need to grow up, and adult moths don't even eat clothes at all!
Moths are part of the Lepidoptera order, along with butterflies! Most moth species are nocturnal, but other species are crepuscular, meaning active primarily in the twilight period, or diurnal, meaning being active during the daytime and asleep or inactive at night!
There are certain types of moth larvae that live in little beans in Mexico. We know these beans as jumping beans, and they jump because the larvae inside are moving around! Because they're stuck to this sticky stuff inside, the bean moves when these little guys move, and they usually move to find shade. It probably gets really hot inside of those beans, after all. Once the little one has grown up, it abandons the bean!
Moths are actually attracted to light, and while it's unknown why, there are many interesting scientific theories that explain!
There are a lot of different types of moths, too!
One of the largest moths in the world is called an Atlas moth! vvvv
Tumblr media
The Madagasgan sunset moth is considered to be one of the most impressive and beautiful species! vvvv
Tumblr media
The death's-head hawkmoth is a moth often associated with the supernatural and evil spirits! vvvv
Tumblr media
The white witch moth has the largest wingspan! (Also they're very pretty and one of my favorite kinds of moths) vvvv
Tumblr media
The Hercules moth is the largest moth in Australia! vvvv
Tumblr media
And another cool moth is the emperor moth! This one is an adult! Look how cool it looks! vvvv
Tumblr media
Moths are so cool to look at, and some are actually adorable! Like this one right here!
vvvv
Tumblr media
This moth is a white ermine moth! Fuzzy little guys, and their spots are adorable. They have their own kind of toxin, too! Most moths have camouflage to hide from predators, or bright colors to convince predators their poisonous, but not these fuzzy lil guys!
And that's all I have on moths! Theyre so so cool and I've been obsessed with them since like two months ago ajajja

it's inevitable that i try to build a muse a pokemon team to explore aspects of them, and some that i've settled on for herc are obvious. at least to me they are.
Pyroar — His signature pokemon. He's the lion of olympus. For a bit I considered luxray here instead with its electric typing and how I could tie that to Zeus, but pyroar won over for the pure aesthetic of it. It's the only line that can learn noble roar, which is fitting.
Tyranitar — Its body can't be harmed by any sort of attack, so it is very eager to make challenges against enemies. Pretty similar to Herc’s invulnerability and his battle-rage. Tyranitar can cause immense destruction when it rages, just like Herc. Also considered tyrantrum here, but tyranitar fit better for its invulnerability and its rages.
Slither Wing — Fighting type, a literally ancient pokemon. Plus, volcarona’s design origin being that of the atlas moth is another little tidbit that I think works well. In ancient history, Hercules handled Atlas' job for him to complete one of his labors, and in real life, the atlas moth is one of the largest in the world. One of the few to beat the atlas moth in sheer size is ... the hercules moth.
Primeape — When Primeape becomes furious, its blood circulation is boosted. In turn, its muscles are made even stronger. However, it also becomes much less intelligent at the same time. When you tack on that primape evolves when it becomes so angry that it dies, I feel like that's just too perfect not to match with Herc.
Obstagoon — Herc and his hair metal. Plus its signature move is a yell. Hercules loves yelling! He can clap so loud it staggers people! He and obstagoon would be so annoying beside each other.
Aegislash — While Herc's usually the type to prefer blunt weaponry, the fact that aegislash is the spirit of an ancient warrior trapped in a sword and shield felt too good not to take advantage of. One of Herc's old allies from ancient times, sticking by his side in the form of a ghostly sword.
While these would be Herc's typical battle team, he'd have backups: machamp, falinks, the tyrogue line, and plenty of other fighting types. If he were a gym leader or an elite four member in some faraway greece-based region, he'd be a fighting type specialist with the other members of his team serving as background characters, essentially. Or given regional forms to suit his needs.
He'd also have pokemon that he doesn't use for battle at all — in particular, he has a small crew of smoliv, dolliv, and arboliva that he shares with Athena. And while it's not one of his personal pokemon, it's not uncommon to see one of Athena's noctowl hovering near him. Gotta keep an eye on him so he doesn't do something stupid, as younger brothers are wont to do.
Also tossed around the idea of him having a zapdos as another connection to Zeus. Whether it's because he feels it's too powerful for a fair fight or that he doesn't want such a direct line to his father, I don't think zapdos would make many appearances at all.

Me as a Hero | Hawks x Gen Z!Hero!OC
[Facing the Public]
So I came up with this idea or concept that I really want to just have fun with. It's me as a hero but also as gen z and this series will more than likely include just different things, I think would be funny or interesting to explore in the MHA world. Season 6 really opened a lot up for some of these ideas so I'm really excited to see where this series takes me. For now, I've tried writing this with head cannons, but it is not an x reader until I can get my format together. This is going to be very unserious and kind of a word vomit, but I think it's a cool idea so yeah. I'm mainly using this as an excuse to write small ideas into a short story to get me back into writing :))
Hope you enjoy :))
Character Info
Hero Name: Atlas
Quirk: Atlas Moth
Physique: Chubby, 5'5
I personally pictured her as black/mixed. So do with that what you will.
Little background: Atlas became a hero very young. She graduated high school (UA) early due to the hero commission. Her moth wings give her flight, durability, and silk weapons that stem from her wings. As part moth she is naturally chubby due to her quirk Atlas Moth taking after the largest moth in the world. She faces daily criticism but does her best to ignore it. She met Hawks shortly after graduation and because of the similarity in their quirks they teamed up often and now work alongside one another as partners. She works at UA part time and is close with Class 1a. There will be very brief mentions of season 6 (not in great detail) just if you've seen season 6 you'll know what I'm talking about.
Tumblr media
We find Hawks and Atlas after saving daycare students from a villain, but they were unable to prevent the substantial damage that was done to the school and the surrounding buildings.
A group of kids had walked by thanking Hawks and I profusely for everything we had done. I turned to Hawks and was not surprised to find him already looking at me.
"What?" He asked.
I just gently smiled, "that's why we do what we do. For them, for us." And a smile also reached his face.
Because of the work we'd both done I knew there was quite a bit of media coverage. A reporter in fact had walked over to us both, a mic in hand and a camera following.
Keigo grabbed my hand, and I knew exactly why.
The reporter seemed nice enough, giving a quick hello before starting with: “So Ms. Atlas civilians are confused about your original mission statement that you made when you first became a hero at 17. 'You promised us we’d be safe however the damage you’ve left behind shows otherwise.' Some people say. What do you have to say in regard to that?”
Hawks gripped my hand tighter, and I looked at him for the corner of my eye. He was shaking his head.
I know what he’s thinking. And I’m not going to listen :))))
Atlas: Well I’d say, “are you a hero?"
Reporter: Excuse me?
Atlas: Are you any of your critics out there heroes?
Reporter: I’m not sure I take your meaning.
Atlas: Well let me spell it out for you. A lot of you civilians have a lot to say about how a heroes job should be done but I don’t see any of you out here. Did you go to hero school?
Reporter: *Shocked and Silenced*
Atlas: Do you see this *points to fresh scars* or this *points to hawks fresh scars* if you can’t see it or just refuse to its blood. Blood, we spilled trying to protect all of you. Which should tell you SURPRISE we’re not perfect.
Hawks: Okay thank you so much, we gotta go Atlas, you know more bad people to put away.
Atlas: Wait wait I’m not done one more thing.
Hawks: are you gonna be nice?
Atlas: of courseeeee
Hawks: *rolls his eyes because how much worse could it get*
Atlas: Everyday you look at a hero and you think we’re more than you and that we’re better. But we’re human just like you, which means we’re all equals, and I can still beat your as-
Hawks: OKAY time to go. Thanks for the interview *grabs my hood and drags me away* We have got to work on your publicity!
Atlas: *screaming one more time* and if I hear one more person say something about my boy DEKU OR CLASS 1A ITS ON SIGHT!!!
Reporter: okay uh back to you at the station.
Later at UA
Class 1a was spread out in there dorm common room around Hawks and I. We'd brought treats for them as usual. They knew me both as Hawk's hero partner and there HR instructor (ironically).
Kirishima: I know we’re supposed to respect the public and all that because that's what you taught us but WOW ATLAS THAT WAS SO MANLY
Aizawa: I should be scolding you but I can’t lie. I’m proud of you.
Bakugo: Heh them idiots had it coming!
Atlas: See hawks it wasn’t all that bad
Hawks: Atlas, you told the civilians that you can still beat them up and you told them they could catch your hands?? What part of what I just said is not THAT bad?
Midoriya: Thanks Ms. Atlas but you didn’t have to ruin your reputation for me.
Atlas: Don’t worry Izuku I’ve just been waiting for the right time to speak my mind. Besides you shouldn’t have to take all there crap. You’re doing your best and that’s all that matters. All of you. Just because they’re the people you’re meant to save doesn’t give them the right to talk bad about you. Any one of you could have become villains and then they’d really have something to say but you didn’t. All of you choose the high road. For whatever reason.
The class soaked in your words.
Atlas: Now me personally you know being a chubby hero with a cute quirk I’m already publicly criticized so I could care less what the public thinks of me. But you know that’s just me. Each of you will have to decide how much of the public life you’ll let dictate how you live your life. But that’s your decision and yours alone. Okay now I’m off my soap opera.
Hawks: Don’t worry. It was a pretty cute one watching you get all passionate.
Atlas: Shut up Keigo
Girls of class 1a: aweeee
Hawks and I finished the night as we usually did, me in the kitchen cooking dinner for everyone with Sato and Momo. And Hawks losing a game of uno.
.
.
.
I won't even lie to you I've been wanting a way to voice my frustrations with the civilians from season 6. In all movies and shows I've always personally disliked the civilian's reactions when the hero makes a mistake (examples; transformers dark of the moon, Captain America civil war, Batman Vs. Superman). While it is realistic it still pisses me off.
Anyways that was super fun. I'm excited for other ideas I have. Next one will more than likely be x reader because it just flows better that way.
Thanks for reading my ideas byeeeee :)))

please tell me everything about something you are very very normal about
im sure you were expecting a blorbo or something but youre going to hear about biology now anon.
im just gonna share a bunch of animals i like :] warning for insects, arachnids, and other creatures
Tumblr media Tumblr media
lets start with this. this is a polyphemus moth! (Antheraea polyphemus) belonging to family saturniidae (giant silk moths) which s known for having some of the largest moth species in the world!! including THE largest species the atlas moth (Attacus atlas) but this aint about him. these photos are of a pair i found that had likely mated shortly before this! the female (left) was eggbound :] you can tell which one is female ans which one is male by the antennae!! females will have smooth antennae and males antennae are covered in that like. feather like shit. males use this to pick up the females pheromones :]]
Tumblr media
heres another moth i found!! this little fella is an alianthus webworm moth (Atteva aurea,) arent their patterns gorgeous? :]
Tumblr media
this is my favorite snake!! the rhinoceros viper (Bitis nasicornis,) with such beautiful coloring, the little horns on their nose, the fat fuck friday swag, and everything else these guys are just Flawless. also i have a plush of one named lightning! you can find a photo of him in my pinned post :] rhino viper fun fact! theres a species in the same genus called Bitis rhinoceros and yet that one ISNT the rhinoceros viper. isnt this shit crasy.
Tumblr media
this fella is a thresher shark! specifically Alopias pelagicus, the pelagic thresher. there are three extant species of thresher shark and ill admit im not actually too familiar with them! but i DO like treshers as a whole! they use their long tail fin to whip shit. thats fucking awesome. i saw a thresher at an aquarium when i was a little kid and i was so scared it was so funny. thats why theyre my favorite shark now :]
Tumblr media Tumblr media
these are eastern pondhawks! Erythemis simplicicollis, now i HAVE seen these in person but i cant find my old photos of them :( the color variation you see here is sexual dimorphism! the females are that beautiful green color and the males are that beautiful blue color! incredible.
Tumblr media
cobalt blue tarantula. Cyriopagopus lividus. must i say anything more. its a bright ass blue spider.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
and with these ive hit my image limit! what a wonder animal to end this on, this is Deinonychus antirrhopus, a dromaeosaur (raptor!) and my personal favorite dinosaur! if im not mistaken, the "velociraptors" in jurassic park were actually based of deinonychus and not velociraptor! i dont really go there tho so please note i very well Could be mistaken. fun fact! the most well known species of velociraptor (there are two) is Velociraptor mongoliensis :]
all images that were not taken by me (everything except the polyphemus moths and alianthus webworm moth) were just grabbed from the wikipedia pages for these guys. biology so cool

"please please let me talk at you about moths" in the special interest post tags
Okay I'm passionate about bugs, and even though I'm mostly a fly person I would love to hear some interesting moth facts!
hi! basic one first that i feel like many bug/moth enjoyers know: silk moths do not have mouths, and so only live a few days as adults, just using energy stored up from being a caterpillar! i guess they don't have much to say :^)
also! some caterpillars are harmful! but not in the sense of if they bite you that's bad. some species have little tiny hairs or spines that can break off into you skin and sting you or cause a rash, so always be careful when handling caterpillars!
there's a type of vampiric moth! the calyptra genus has at least one vampire moth, if not multiple. they aren't known to cause any harm to humans though
the largest moth in the world is the atlas moth, followed closely by the hercules moth! they each have a wingspan of around 10 inches, and the atlas moth can have a wing surface area of around 60 square inches! meanwhile the smallest moth known currently is the stigmella maya, which is just a few millimeters across
also! typically male moths are the only ones with the characteristic fluffy antenna! female moths have much slimmer antenna
and last but not least. they are friend shaped :)
