ho-ly shit, this actually got finished. this was so much work for something that is so incredibly niche, but im so happy with it. this was SO MUCH FUN to come up with, to think of songs for each card, to slip in silly references and make my little border designs... thank you so much everyone else who has been enjoying these posts!

I don't think this was properly credited in the game, but this is the track that plays when you dance on the tables with Julian, and I'm completely in love with it.

The Nine of Jazz is a card about resilience. A weary, sad-looking jazz vocalist takes the stage. Her head is bandaged and her dress crumpled and she sings a mournful song. The show must go on, but even deeper than that, the singer knows that the power of song is the only medicine that will address her pain. Consider the sheer human will to survive, and how often you have heard amazing stories about what people have been through. It would be very difficult to find any better example of a resilient people than that of Black America, which has suffered so greatly. That pain has been transmuted, time and time again, into music and in deep-rooted traditions that can outlast any trial the world can serve up.
