i'm here as a hater.
i watched red white and royal blue and i'm here to be a hater.
i was having such a great time on tumblr, looking over people's posts and then i went to letterboxd to leave a review and my fucking god. why are there so many people bashing this film for being a bad adaptation. worse yet, why are they queer?
i understand, trust me, i completely understand loving a piece of media and waiting impatiently with bated breath to watch the adaptation of it into another recognisable medium. i'm a mortal instruments girlie, i'm a last of us girlie, i'm a fault in our stars girlie, i'm a watchmen girlie. i get it. i do. sometimes maybe good, sometimes maybe shit.
but bruv, i am also a person who works in the film industry and you have no fucking clue the amount of effort it takes to make a film let alone a film that's an adaptation of a pre-existing, utterly loved piece of fiction that is revered by so many. and this movie goes one step further. this is a cheesy, cutesy rom-com about a queer couple. how many of those do we even have? no. really. how many hopeful, easy-going, cheesy queer rom-coms have you watched? can you count them on one hand? do you need a google search to remind yourself of them?
this film is a rare commodity and fine, maybe that's not a good enough reason for you to be 'lenient' to it... but it kinda is. no adaptation will be perfect, not really, not for everyone. every piece of media has it's flaws but adaptations most of all. but this film does something that you cannot dismiss simply because your favourite scene wasn't in it. personally i so miss alex's speech before the election results are announced. i miss ellen's powerful and amazing speech when she does win. i miss june, i miss raphael and i miss leo, and the powerpoint presentations and i miss cornbread knowing alex's sins.
but none of that will ever take away from the beauty of being able to sit in front of my laptop and watch the most intimate queer love scene i have ever laid my eyes on. it just won't.
anyway.... i'm rambling. the point that i was trying to make before i got lost in all this, was that you are obviously allowed to hate on the movie but like... be kinder about it? don't hate it because it's not a straight up remake of the book. don't hate it because it's cheesy. idk man, just hate kindly, if possible.
this is a huge step for us.
i don't want the response to this film to seem negative in a way that gives the (already reluctant) studious more reason to not make queer media for queer people, you know?
there will come a time in this life where we can hate and critique queer media without worrying about all this context but we're not there yet?
so i guess, like henry, i'm also asking for y'all patience.
however, whoever fucking said that nick and taylor don't have chemistry can suck my huge ugly metaphorical dick. fuck you. they made me week in the knees.

(I spent like ten minutes writing a response to this post + some of the reblogs that it had accumulated and then the OP disabled reblogs JUST as I hit post, but by god I am gonna say my bit. I've removed OP's name from the post and they've deleted the body of the post on their main blog, so don't any of you try looking them up to bother them, either.)
I'd also like to add on to this discussion regarding criticism and the points that have been brought up there-- it's true that no one is free from criticism, as OP points out in the original post. But having that sort of hyper-aggressive attitude towards fiction, especially without taking potential authorship into account (or worse, taking it far too much into account to the point where you harass the person who wrote it), can result in unintended harm towards real people. It's how you end up with situations like Isabel Fall de-transitioning and winding in a psychiatric institute under suicide watch because people mistook a transgender author's exploration of a transphobic stereotype as a topic as a story intended to be a transphobic stereotype itself.
The Vox article about Isabel has the quote, "Sometimes, the path to your personal hell is paved with other people’s best intentions" (Source). I think that's a very poignant and relevant perspective, where sometimes people--like OP--may think that they, as global citizens, have a duty to uphold morality and righteousness in their online spaces for the safety of themselves and their communities... but in actuality, their actions end up having negative effects far, far beyond their intentions, and don't end up protecting or saving anyone much at all. It can be a hard pill to swallow to realize that, but the real actions that people do in retaliation to fiction often create far, far more damage that the fiction ever does existing on its own. For another example, just look at the creator JoCat, who left his YouTube career this year because of the harassment he faced due to his 2020 35-second long video game animation and song, "I Like Girls" (a genderbent parody of Lizzo's Boys that he'd verbally improved on the spot during a Twitch stream). In his goodbye post, he wrote:
"[...] Granted, a lot of this has been primarily on twitter, where I could simply log off and ignore the haters, but no small amount has leaked into other parts of my regular day to day that is harder to ignore - private DMs over discord and twitch, suspicious packages being sent to my family - but I’ve always kept quiet about it because speaking out about it publicly, defending myself, any reaction to it would just encourage more, and be presented as my own fault as well. But if that’s the tradeoff to do something like share the things I make that I’m proud of on the internet, seeing as I’m writing this, it’s probably an indicator that I’m just not cut out for it, and the best thing for everyone would be to stop and pursue something else. Despite being very grateful for what this job has done for me and my family, I’m simply not strong enough to keep doing this if it means having to just accept this kind and amount of distress." (Source)
I think there's worthwhile conversations to be had about the necessity of criticism as a tool to critique common issues with genre, tropes, and popular media in fiction. But I feel like what is being spoken about here, in this post and in these examples-- criticism not as a tool of critique, but as a personal and direct attack, an unveiling of what the criticizer interprets to be the secret and impure Self of the artist or author--is another beast entirely, and one that typically shouldn't be brought to the forefront. It's turning real, thinking individuals into monsters in the eyes of audiences ready to devour them for the slightest transgression, and does that actually help anyone? Rarely do artists and authors deserve to be publicly ridiculed en-masse for their work to the point where they walk away from it, and doing so doesn't actually help make positive changes in any way... because the people who you could have those important discussions with, about the things that both you are critical of in certain genres, writings communities, stories, tropes, etc have now packed up their bags and left.
Everyone is familiar with the "You are not immune to propaganda" Garfield meme. And while it may be funny, it's also true. People make mistakes and create things which are unintentionally insulting, either because the author is leaning on offensive stereotypes or tropes without realizing it, or because the author isn't worldly to the baggage that certain subjects carry within them (such as people who reference Lovecraft's work without having the background information that he was a horrible racist, sexist, and xenophobe). But heckling them and telling them that they're secretly terrible people and should never create anything ever again isn't going to inform them about these subjects. It's going to result in them getting defensive, prickly, and running off. There is no net gain to this scenario. The amount of Good in the world has not increased from this interaction.
This all isn't touching on people who intentionally play with stereotypes or tropes in their writing, nor is it touching on the inherent religious bigotry and Christiancentrism wrapped up in the idea of someone's fictional stories or writings being reflective of their innermost desires and morality, because this is getting pretty long. But I wanted to put out my own thoughts on this in addition to what's already been said.

omfd s2ep8 spoilers & rant
originally posted to my twitter acc
i am genuinely so confused by the amount of pure vitriol some of you have towards izzy and izzy fans?? i get not particularly liking a character or agreeing with the way other people see them, but some of y'all are being absolutely disgusting towards others. what happened to cringe culture being dead, huh? insinuating people should be embarassed or ashamed to have a reaction to characters they like - having big emotions about media you love is part of being in a fandom! you're no better or less weird! oooh look at you being unwilling to forgive or accept character growth! wow! so morally superior and cool! just because you dont personally agree that a redemption arc was deserved or done well doesnt make it a fact btw.
ive been watching this season with casual viewers who are not a part of online fandom at all, and they have all very much enjoyed izzy's arc and him as a character, they are able to see the narrative importance of it, as are the writers and the crew. again, you dont have to agree. but dont act superior.
at the end of the day, this is a silly pirate show made mostly for 'haha's, and ALL of these characters have done HORRIBLE things, they're pirates ffs, that's kinda the whole point here guys! and those things are ridiculously easily forgiven (by our standards) again, because they are pirates and this is not a serious show.
izzy fans are sad, some are very very sad, maybe even a 'weird' amount! so? do you really need to dunk on them for lolz? make it out like they're insane for even liking a character that the show itself actively likes and supports and clearly wants the audience to like (in s2 anyway, and if you deny this then sorry but you're being willfully wrong)? idk why any of you are remotely surprised people like this character? starting to think some of you just wanna be edgy and seem sarcastic and cool and superior for your 'witty' twitter commentary tbh.
and of course sending any kinda negativity towards writers/cast/crew is disgusting and pathetic, but im seeing that from izzy lovers and haters alike on my feed, so dont you dare try and make it seem like a pro-izzy only issue here. and y'know what? it's also disgusting and pathetic to belittle and mock other members of the fandom, and im only seeing one side engaging in that behavior, please do humble yourselves and remember the times in your life when you have had a strong emotional reaction to things happening to your fav characters and ships. dont forget that you are also a loser with a fandom twitter/tumblr account.
and for the record, i thought the finale was genuinely good, as was all of season 2 in my opinion. all this immature negativity and faux superiority is making this fandom toxic. izzy is a popular character with viewers (casual & otherwise) and the creative team, who had a decent redemption arc. that is a fact, whether you like it or not. people should not have to feel hesitation about posting anything remotely positive about izzy out of fear of judgement or ridicule. save your cutting twitter remarks for actually problematic people.
im not even particularly attached to this damn character but the way y'all have been behaving has annoyed tf outta me.

Think the dumbest claim about Engage fans I’ve heard is “they do nothing but diss on 3H all day” or “There are no Engage fans just 3H haters”. Not saying I haven’t seen Engage fans who are unnecessarily hateful and hostile towards 3H, but when I look into the Engage fandom there’s far more content for and gushing about what they love about the game than complaining about 3H.
Yeah I did saw that and euh ... it left me confuse as ever ? Cause I barely hear any dissing on 3H ? Really ? And let's not like as if the fandom didn't do that in 2019 cause we all know they do this. Recall the F!Byleth's design controversy ? Or when they call Hubert, Lorenz and Raphael ugly ? Or Dima's noddle hair ? Anyway.
I do agree that if you look or search deep enough you will find Engage fans who reacts like little kids and attacks 3H because people said Engage was bad or whatever but as someone who checks the tags for Engage everyday, really... there is almost 0 of that nonsense against 3H. In fact... it's Engage that get that treatement. You have no idea how tiresome it is to click on the Engage tags and find yet another person who goes "Yeah Engage sucks, 3H rules" and me thinking "I came here for positivy, would you pleaaaase not tagg your negative opinion on the Engage tag or use a different wording so that when searching I can actually escape your negative opinion ?"and sometimes, I find, as you say that one person that will act as if the fandom was bullying them for not liking Engage and prefering 3H.... but I find 0 post about this. Really, not a single one! Take Bigkingly for example, he made a FE gameplayvs story tier list and even though he place 3H much higer then Engage on the story, he still got people arguing with him because he place Engage above average and said he though it was good.... And don't get me started on the pretty impressive amount of video making a bad review of Engage that have much more engagement then the one praising Engage, it's all the big FE tubers : Ghast, Mekkah, etc. The one who praised the game have very little expostion and will often have the SAME people in the comment section of Ghast "Engage fell off video" or Mekkah's or even that 2 hour long video whose views are currently getting much and much more important numbers.
And the most recent thing I saw was someone saying, and I quote "I legitimately believe the Engage fans are too lazy to actually take a break and read about the amazing lore 3H brought, along with the supports. They really believe Engage's lore is more interesting, and still prefer those supports than 3H's, that's just hilarious." or "It does suck tbh. Engage does have their own benefits, but 3H just getting targeted really does suck as it's a flawed, but amazing game." or "3H world building is just the books in the library" is one of my favorite little things that engage fans tell themselves".. and I find none of the post or comments or anything supposed to be speaking of that like... what ? And apparently there is a "3H hate train wagon" which is weird ? Cause the hate train wagon I noticed was for Engage, not 3H. Most of the 3H negativity I ever saw was in response to it being treated like an amazing masterpiece with no flaws to diss on Engage and while very childish.. that's not like the initiative I saw in the Engage hatred.
Honestly, I am thinking it's some side of the fandom trying to make believe it's a "both side" situation so they can diss Engage without any repercussion, never mind that "yeah but Engage fans said bad things about 3H" is just as childish as the part of the fandom that diss 3H just because they said bad things about Engage.
Frankly, I can't tell cause really, you are right Anon. Most of the Engage fandom, if not all is just us chilling out on characters, making fanart, fanfiction etc. While there is some discourse (cof, cof, Seadal, cof, cof, Alcryst, cof) it still stays rather silent and even the big controversial DLC romance concluded into : people who ship it can ship it, people who don't want to ship it won't ship it and we won't try to make an argument on whether opinion. And it's also acting as though we can't discuss Engage in a civle manner and that's... false ? Like, not long ago, someone told me why they though that Marni telling her backstory in chapter 21 was bad and offered a rewriting and I shared my thoughts, and not once did we disrespected each other. In fact, the most rabbid Engage haters are ... so dedicated that they retweet a lot of tweets supposed to be about Engage's writing good point to do nothing but... diss on it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Keep in mind that my timeline is recomending me those only cause those people insist on quoting everything related to Engage and that tehy don't even have the decency to "untagg" or do something so that blocking or muting works in a way that doesn't end up with you viewing no content of the fandom you belong to.
I for one and many of the fans in my X circle are trying to spread positivity about this game. Heck, I even made a video just because I wanted to help it spread bigger and faster, on a plateform that is more accessible to everyone.
We are all tired of negativy, while would we add into this ? I for one don't really want to be known as the "3H hater" but as being a great contributor in positivity when it comes to Engage cause this is a game that has many great stuff. And again, this is more another way of stigmatizing Engage fan for liking the game, saying in an indirecct way "Engage's fan just PRETEND to like Engage, in reality they just hate 3H and use Engage to hate 3H cause really, who could love unironically this game if not people who simply just hate 3H because they are idiots ?" because like... I and many fans of Engage are pretty much the first one to say "comparing it with 3H is useless". So I ain't saying there isn't some case like that, but really ? That's a very minor part of the fandom that's hardly vocal.
Sorry it got a bit too long, (I really can't stop talking, can I ?)

how do you handle getting weird anons all the time? i just have asks off, im too scared of people getting angry at me on here
I really think if you're dealing with any amount of kneejerk negative tumblr attention when you haven't really done anything wrong you need to remember that ultimately this person's anger has nothing to do with you. It is weird on their part to become directly aggressive because they saw something they disagreed with online, the nature of online is that sometimes you will see things you really do not enjoy seeing and the best solution is to leave the environment causing you to see it. I always appreciate genuine good faith criticisms because I am not a public figure, I am just a guy posting my thoughts and I don't think of my thoughts as unimpeachable.
BUT most of the criticism I get is not good faith and is either a Not My Problem situation or a situation where even if I have done something wrong I am being immediately condemned without being given the actual opportunity to fix it however that looks. I've been appropriately confronted and been willing to resolve the problem plenty of times but like. Obviously I'm not posting about it when all that's going to come of it is that people are going to consider it Discourse and argue about it when no further arguing is necessary.
Basically. People are going to be angry at you for reasons outside of your control, you don't need to care about that, having asks off is probably best for you (but most people won't come off anon tbh) and beyond that there are just as many people who will read your words in good faith and treat you fairly anyway. The internet just exposes you to way more haters because haters love the anonymity that online affords

JK and Jimin are inevitably going to interact again. We will most definitely get evidence at some point in the future that they were as close as ever even during these times when people are swearing up and down that they “don’t hang out that much anymore”
It always happens this way and I don’t know why people keep playing themselves like this when they know that every time people get so adamant that jikook is “distant”, something happens that proves otherwise. Its been happening like this for years and people still won’t learn to stop speaking on jikook when they don’t know shit. And then when it comes out that jk and jm were hanging out and are just as close as they always were, they get mad and pile hate on jimin for god knows what reason, it is a vicious fucking cycle at this point.
I literally don’t even know what they are basing their conclusions on right now, I don’t know why people always reserve this kind of negative energy for jikook. When was the last time we saw jimin and yoongi or jimin and tae hang out outside of work? Yet you never hear anyone jumping to the conclusion that either of these pairings are not close anymore or dont hang out at all. And it’s not even just tkkers now, it’s popular blogs claiming to not be concerned about shipping yet boldly declaring that they are sure jikook don’t hang out anymore. Give me a fucking break.
Why does jikook bother people in this fandom so much? Why do people seem to be so smug and self satisfied when it appears that they are not hanging out as much? It is becoming more and more obvious each and every day how differently jikook is treated by ARMY and fans need to take a good hard look at themselves and figure out why the thought of these two members in particular being close seems to rub them the wrong way. Because I have a lot of reasons why and all of them start with homo and end in phobia.
Sorry for ranting and cussing in your inbox I am just so tired of the way jikook and jikookers are looked upon in this fandom and the amount of reaching and jumping to conclusions that started after jimin’s live kicked my annoyance into high gear. I had to unfollow a jm centered blog I really liked before because they started going off about how they’re sure jikook aren’t close as they were anymore and haven’t hung out in awhile. It is just so disheartening especially when Im over here trying to enjoy jimin month in peace
Jimin telling fans to watch Tae's show after watching it himself, JK telling Jimin to come over for chicken and beer at night, Tae laughing and liking Jimin's post talking about his birthday, Jungkook telling his coach that Jimin will come over when he can, Jimin saying to Tommy that he misses him, JK spending time with Tae's group, JK's coach telling Jimin to come over..Do these people really seem like they are caught in some weird 3 way pit fight stressed and miserable?!
You asked what haters basing their conclusion on? Nothing because they don't know anything and it's the same thing they say all the time only with a different fake narrative. Last year it was "Jikook don't interact on social media like all of them do so it means they aren't close"...until they did and showed them all wrong. The year before that it was "Jikook hang out too much so it means they are fan service and being payed" ...untill they both started to shy away from it while still giving us enough content to see that they are doing damn great and proved them wrong. This time it will be "Jikook only interact on vlives and social media but not in private haha it means they are not close and always were fan service". See how that works? See how the argument is changing according to what suits weirdos at the moment?
No matter what jikook does, public or private, on social media or not, whether they’re a couple or not, their relationship and closeness would always be considered as fan service or be viewd as non authentic or on the verge of a fall out
Some people want them to hate each other so bad and project things they saw in one dynamic to another dynamic just because they think if they say it out loud (and they are loud) it will happen in real life but life doesn't work that way and they are all friends who were always friends and always hung out together when we don't even know about, and about to enlist very soon. And yes, they have their own schedules and responsibilities to juggle with now and people who ignore that need to grow up. If Jimin wants to see Hobi a lot maybe because he's enlisting and Jimin is a sweetheart like that, he can because nobody knows what he does the rest of the time, not to mention they are already at the company at similar times. Nobody knows where JK is right at this moment or what Tae did yesterday. The arguments that starts with 'X are never together' about any relationships in the group are straight up troll tallk because non of us are living in their pockets and these people aren't worth talking to because they forget how daily life looks like and ommitting other parts that happen on purpose. If Tae doesn't mention Jin as much as he used to it means they were fake? If Suga doesn't talk about JK it means they aren't friends? Of course not that's why you don't see anons go around in circles fearing a fall out. If Tae and JK can hang out nowdays even after them talking about having an awkward phase at one point it has to mean that they are in love and will forever be best friends who are the closest of all.
But jikook . .... jikook being cute on February doing late night invites for chicken and boxing practice must mean that on March they fell out and didn't saw each other for months or refuse to hang out in public..sure..make sense lol
Enjoy your Jimin month in peace because these people are not going to go away. They have no sense of shame when they are slapped with reality and won't have any when jikook will interact again. Non of us have a way to determine who is closer to who unless it comes from the guys own mouths, they'll just do what they always do and fold only to come back with a changed narrative or twist their words into something they never said with wrong translations and no critical thinking skills like they did yesterday with Jimin not wanting to share when he saw Jungkook. These people live in constant feeling of dread. Take breaks to avoid the nastiness, come back when you'll feel like it, keep streaming and focus on the good that is all Jimin ❤

Thank you so much for being so kind and thoughtful in your reply, I'm not used to that amount of kindness on the internet. Thank you for not taking offense! I never meant any.
This is about to be a bit of a mess as I reply to your reply.
What I meant by saying that an eastern artist who learned more about misogyny and such through interaction with western culture would probably expect westerners to know better and so would trust them enough not to really think too much into their lyrics. At least, the people I know who've been through such a process tend to think that way.
I see what you're saying about the MV. I agree, the MV is problematic, though only at the Harlow parts. I don't expect that JK has thought as deeply about that part as we have to realize the problem (by deeply, I mean we have it built into us to look for that sort of thing, while he tends to have an optimistic fun approach to things, especially these last couple of songs, and does not always look into the underlying tones), and I wish the director had not made it like that, but yeah. It is JK's song.
I understand misandry, and I absolutely do not think there's anything wrong with you not liking songs about sex, or heterosexual sex, or any song. I generally don't care for overtly sexual songs myself. Or at least, I'm a bit picky about them.
I also dislike the trend of Jungkook's music right now, but it has only been two songs. Not only that, but they aren't that personal to him. He's picked these songs to sing because he likes the fun vibes and he really hasn't overthought it (we are all obviously analyzing the meanings of the little things in it, especially the negative things, but he did not), and it helps him possibly break out of his baby image. I just think these sort of lack his personal touch. I mean the devotion in Seven and the fun lightheartedness of the MV fit him, like with Left and Right, and I did see bits of that in 3D as well, but I just think 3D really lacks his personal touch. Like it's someone else's idea of a pop star. But Jungkook has said he wants to try many different genres, and he is experimenting. I really hope the album showcases more of his personal talents. Especially since he's so talented in so many things. I guess these features make it easier to break into the Western market, but they are so unnecessary (and I liked Latto's verse in Seven). If JK wants rap in his song, he is totally capable of doing it himself, he is good enough for that. I just really hope his album shows more of his involvement, as the only thing he's really doing in these songs is singing them. At least with Tae's album (which I loved), even though he didn't write or produce for it, but it was his. You could tell just from the vibes and the overall direction how big of a hand he had in it. 3D doesn't seem JK. I hope his album does.
And if you see JK, he's so soft and sweet, and it's obvious he never means any harm. That's the one thing I am 100% certain of.
Nothing wrong with being a hater on your own blog, of course! I'm not trying to change your mind on anything, I just wanted to express my thoughts to someone, and I guess you were unlucky enough to be chosen. I'm sorry if I came across as rude at any point, that's not my intention at all. I love hearing your thoughts.
haha no worries
I really cant speak for that which you said about western vs eastern artists. I think it's very strange if an eastern artist would think, of all people, that a male rapper singing about women is probably 100% harmless. thats mind boggling to me. If jungkook is that clueless hes... like I just doubt it. also I dont know if BTS learned about misogony through the west lol. feminism is a pretty big movement in South Korea you know! let me refer you to this post about namjoon for example: https://leepacey.tumblr.com/post/722599357746216960/bts-member-namjoons-history-with-misogyny-and You can see it's not very umm west-focused. because he is korean. Sure I see your point about jungkook not thinking deeply about this. I dont think so either, and I honestly hope that he is as clueless as you think even though thats not good enough to evade responsibility. I guess you mean he has no intention of harm? I also dont think so. but at the end of the day, the fact that he can look at a music video like this and proudly present it – even if he hasn't put a lot of thought to it– means that somewhere his beliefs and values are ok with such content. wait im not sure how to explain this well..I mean like, he wouldnt have to think so much, because what this mv presents is pretty on the nose and one thing we know is that jungkook didnt oppose to any of it. like the fact that as far as we know he didnt feel any aversion is enough for me to judge him
i kinda agree with everything you said about jungkooks music. Im starting to feel like maybe music as a solo artist isnt for him, and that he saves that for BTS *shrug* like you said hes just having fun right now and not taking it too deeply or seriously. "someone else's idea of a pop star." FOR REAL goddd . Honestly yeah we shouldn't judge his whole future solo career based of what hes doing right now. Like I mean, we should judge this as its own things and then see what he does next. like his album. seriously all hes doing rn is try and appeal to the Western market like you said. and thats like. ok do that but im not gonna be invested or care for it.
"At least with Tae's album (which I loved), even though he didn't write or produce for it, but it was his. You could tell just from the vibes and the overall direction how big of a hand he had in it." YES!!!!!!
"And if you see JK, he's so soft and sweet, and it's obvious he never means any harm. That's the one thing I am 100% certain of." lol you are more confident than me and trust him way more than me, good for you honestly. For the most part I agree but I also dont know him and there have been some red flags honestly. and I know twitter armys would have me executed for saying that but its what I feel, I dont trust men and whether we like to admit it or not he is a 26 year old man they are pretty bad as a demographic.
nothing about what you said was rude and I didnt mind your asks at all! its totally fine you can express your opinions here whenever you want I love asks actually and i could talk about bts all day I already do it in my head so

this is more of an opinion based post so if any1 is looking for more drama updates from me TRUST they will be coming but this one ain't it </3
imo q is well and truly cooked unless she can find a way to properly refute everything w/ evidence (which I don't think is gonna happen considering the fact she had to jump to say that the receipts were 'ai-generated')
-> the fact that she lowk has been telling lie after lie is also not helping her case
im not gonna outright jump to accuse her family but the way they've been acting (leaving victims on read + literally threatening Mariah by saying she was gonna catch a fade?) it's honestly not looking too hot for any of them either
I rlly hope q faces serious consequences (potentially getting kicked off the team? jail time?) cause the amount of ppl she's negatively affected w her bs is literally insane
I might watch some of the live later tn and gather some main points (MAYBE), but I think they covered most of the main points in the first live (unless someone else comes forward w more stuff)
hoping that nobody harasses paige, azzi, and kk (Harvey) about all this cause it's not on them to deal w q's crazy ass-
love your opinions queen no worries 🙏🙏
no i agree. her reputation is genuinely not coming back from this but honestly @cosmopretty and i were just talking and unfortunately geno and the other adults/people in power may not believe things that just come from tik tok and dismiss it as “haters just be haters” and other stuff- and besides this may not even get to the uconn girls themselves
but i honestly think that if people KEEP bringing it up and KEEP pushing for some sort of consequences that eventually they will have to take notice of if. i said it in my last post but i’ll say it again: mariah and the other victims need to collect their evidence and send it to the authorities.
q NEEDS consequences for her actions
i unfortunately just saw the video her sister posted and i am SO incredibly disappointed but i also cant help but wonder if q is perhaps lying to her family too? i mean we know how much she likes lying so… but maybe i’m just looking for the good where there is none lol.
no pressure to watch the live later tonight sweetheart if you have to go to bed then pls go to bed!!!! again, we appreciate you SO much but don’t tire yourself out 😭😭😭 it probably will just be the same points from the first live but again if someone major comes out we will hear about it, and i look forward to hearing your opinion on it!!!
if anyone harasses my girls i will literally fight to the death.

@quipxotic no need to apologize for ranting! i appreciate that you're just as passionate about this as i am!
i agree with all of this, but i find it funny you bring up c1 here. because out of everyone, most detractors seem to universally hate hate hate scanlan and keyleth.
keyleth for reasons up to and including her player being matt’s girlfriend/fiancé/wife and insisting he gives her special treatment because of that. but for those who aren’t weirdly jealous of marisha ray, there’s everyone that bashes her for being angry and self-important and scared at what happens to her. and they talk about how much better her cartoon self is for being sweet and shy "instead of a total bitch" because gosh forbid a woman have negative emotions and not be motherly and kind all the time.
people still want scanlan dead for him having a mental breakdown after raishan mauled him and lashing out at all his friends and constantly call him narcissistic in a derogatory way. or say he's ungrateful and was forcing them to care about him.
and to a lesser extent people acting like percy’s trauma is solely "man pain" or acting like vex is just greedy for no reason or saying horrifically ableist things about grog.
Tumblr media
@sofigrace 4sd has a lot of stuff that gets taken out of context. i feel awful for taliesin jaffe saying that imogen was the only one that felt like a main character because her haters took that and RAN WITH IT. he meant "wow, all our characters feel like npcs in a video game except for yours!"
and for that, yeah, i'm... not sure how that means bh doesn't trust each other? wouldn't that mean they trusted each other more? i saw a variation of a post like that that said bell's hells needs to actualize themselves as people solo, which ended up becoming a huge part of the campaign so congrats to them for accidentally predicting c3 plot points!
Tumblr media
@topaz-mutiny yes, yes, yes! the conflict between the characters was honestly my favorite bit of early c2!
because describing them as a bunch of broken people who learned to trust again and became a family from day one is doing them a massive disservice and completely waters down the amount of conflict and trials that they went through for them to get to that level of trust. they had to earn it and work for it. it wasn’t overnight and i don’t think it was until they were well into the triple digit number of episodes that they became as inseparable as everyone insists they always were.
but again, i really don’t want this to come off like i hate the mighty nein or i’m trying to make them look bad. because as i mentioned before there’s people who only like c1 that go "um actually c2 is all terrible and overrated and badly paced and you only like it because you use them as props for your headcanons!" which is just shallow. of course, these people also despise c3 and claim it’s pissing all over the legacy of vox machina by torturing vax and making percy and keyleth "useless jerks" but you know.

I think that regarding RWBY criticism people are defensive because there are a lot of people who dont like the show and actively shit talk it for whatever reason. We agree on that and we agree there are people who criticize the show because they like it and want it to be "better" (whatever that means to them.) Now feel free to disagree with me on this part but i think part of the reason the people who have genuine criticism often get disregarded and labeled a hater is because, at least to me, they dont provide a solution to the problems they have or do so in a way that can be interpreted as self-righteous and condescending. Its like if a teacher got mad at a student for not understanding the material rather than trying to explain it differently, it just creates another issue.
I think the reason why critics don't provide a solution is the same reason why that comparison doesn't work for me: we are not RT's teachers. We are the consumers of their product. Whereas a teacher has a responsibility to do everything possible to help a student get better at their subject (the thing they're paid to do), it is not the viewers' responsibility to do everything possible to help RT get better at writing (we're paying them). To my mind, it really is enough to say, "This is bad" and leave it at that. The same way if I order a meal at a restaurant, I'm allowed to go, "Wow. That tasted awful and I'm upset about it because I expected better." If my dinner companion went, "Well, why was it bad? Too cold? Not enough seasoning? Prove to me these failings exist because I'm not inclined to take you at your word. And more importantly, what's your solution here? I'm not going to take this complaint seriously unless you have a good plan for how to fix this dish" I'd be like, "... what am I supposed to do? March into the kitchen and teach the chef myself?"
We're under no obligation to fix RT's mistakes and, even if we were, how exactly are a bunch of fans meant accomplish that? What literal, practical action does anyone expect fans to take to ensure that the changes they want to see in RWBY actually come about? There's nothing you can do. However, despite this, many fans do suggest changes that they think would benefit the story, with the hope that the writers — who are very active on social media and engage a great deal with their fans — will see and take note. There have been times throughout the series where it does appear like they saw some of the more common complaints... only to then swerve right back towards their original writing decisions. Ren's Volume 8 arc is an example of that. So is Jaune's focus in the finale. Many in the fandom said, "I want to see the group held responsible for their bad decisions. I want Jaune to take a backseat so the girls can get more development. I think these choices will help alleviate many of the criticisms we've had" and RT did that... only to pull back on both changes at the last second. Obviously there's no way to know their intentions there, whether it's a coincidence they toyed with ideas the fandom has frequently discussed, or whether they actually tossed them in to try and appease critics with no real plans to take those changes seriously, but for the purposes of this discussion it amounts to the same: fans said "Doing this specific thing will make the story better, with 'better' defined as us deriving more enjoyment from it" and RT didn't do the thing. So, where are you supposed to go from there? Storm RT headquarters and make them take writing classes? Frankly, it's ridiculous to think that fans need or could do anything at all, making solutions a needless requirement.
To say nothing of how this comes across as another lose-lose situation. You say that critics should provide solutions to these problems in order to be taken seriously. You also say that if they do provide solutions, they tend to come across as "self-righteous and condescending." Pardon my skepticism, but it sounds like there isn't a version of criticism that's going to meet with your approval, or if it exists, it's an incredibly narrow pocket. Criticism is dismissed if there's no solution attached, but if you do provide a solution, make sure you don't sound too confident in the changes you want to make. That doesn't sound very doable to me. It just sounds like a catch-all way to dismiss criticism as a whole, either because a post didn't meet the first, arbitrary requirement, or did so in a tone the recipient decides they don't like (which is always subjective. Any post can be read as "self-righteous" if you decide that's the route you want to go. It's a self-fulfilling prophecy). And I do see this a lot. For a transformative fandom like any other, the RWBY community has a strangely hostile attitude towards rewrites, with many fans considering it "self-righteous" to think that anyone could write RWBY better than RT, and that a rewrite's existence is "condescending" towards the writers. If I actually gave a detailed account of not just my problems with the story, but also the specific changes needed to improve it (many of which, notably, require a reworking of the mechanics and world building from the very start), there's a very good chance that would still be dismissed because people would interpret it as too arrogant. "Look at her, thinking she's better than professional, successful writers. What massively popular stories have you published lately? Yeah, that's what I thought. God I hate critics, they're so pretentious." If you don't provide solutions you're being too negative and don't actually want the story to succeed. If you provide solutions you're too arrogant and insulting the writers by daring to think that you could do better. So again: lose-lose.
But as said, solutions shouldn't be necessary. It's great if you come up with some, but figuring out how to fix a product's failings is not a requirement for voicing grievances with that product. I don't need to know how to build a better computer to be upset if mine suddenly fails. I don't need to know how to bake muffins to grimace if the one I'm eating tastes off. And you don't need to know how to write a webseries to be unhappy with how RWBY is going. If we were in a position of responsibility with RT, like a teacher, then yeah, totally different situation. But they're producing something that they expect fans to pay for, whether it's through First accounts, merch, cons, etc. or, payment aside, they nevertheless hope to receive attention and praise for this product. The flipside of that is that people might not like what you're selling. You can be displeased with the quality of a webseries purchase in precisely the same way you can be displeased with the quality of a meal. No Gordon Ramsey-level knowledge required.

I've gotten a whole bunch of new followers since I started making The Untamed content about a year ago, and I think it may be a good time to introduce myself and this blog to the newcomers.
Hi! ♥
I'm glad you find this chaotic mess entertaining enough to want to stick around!
That said, if you don't feel comfortable with who I am and/or what I post, just unfollow at any time, no explanations needed.
I'm Silvy, I'm a Fandom Old, 40+, and have been involved in online fandom since the late 90ies.
I'm neurodivergent, Aspie/ADHD and some spare change. I hyperfocus on things, and love to analyze fictional characters and tropes, especially things to do with the messiness and complexities of human nature and emotion. At the moment, as should be obvious, I live in the The Untamed universe, especially the Yi City corner. (You don't get emotions much messier and more complex than that!)
I have always been fascinated by ”villains” - the people who don't act like others do, who are different, and who hurt people, sometimes without meaning to. (Sometimes very much meaning to.)
I love redemption arcs. I've grown to realize there's a this recent phenomenon happening online where people claim certain fictional characters don't ”deserve” them. I think that's utter bullshit, and an extremely negative and destructive mindset to have. People should always have the chance to change and do better. Everyone makes mistakes. Some worse than others. But while no one ”deserves” forgiveness, unless it's freely given, everyone should have the chance to change, move on and be better.
I have always been fascinated by fiction as a medium to explore the messiness of humanity. Of how people hurt each other and heal each other and grow either way. The mess of who people end up loving, or hating, or - bittersweetly - both at once. In my opinion, that is the very purpose of fiction – the mirror held up to explore our own humanity, without suffering any of the negative consequences of reality. Yes, that includes the really problematic stuff. Yes, all the problematic stuff. Fiction is not reality.
I have 100% understanding for people who don't want to watch or read certain things – don't self-harm by engaging with content and creators that makes you angry and upset! I also have 0% patience with people demanding others conform to their particular standards of purity. It's everyone's responsibility to curate their own online experience. Haters will be blocked.
I'm queer (no, queer is not a slur.) Non-straight, asexual, married to another woman for 6 years now. I'd say a majority of my best friends are trans or otherwise non-cis. If you’re cis and find trans/non-binary/intersex/non-gender conforming etc people strange and frightening, by all means – stick around! I reblog quite a lot of trans-positive content. Maybe it'll offer insights! Any TERF-rhethoric will be blocked and shut down on sight, though. This is a safe space.
I'm Swedish. Socialism works. Just saying. 👍
These are simple facts – if any of the above is a dealbreaker, just click unfollow and everyone will probably be happier in the long run. :)
The less problematic stuff: I'm a professional illustrator, though currently on more or less permanent sick leave. Despite sometimes crippling social anxiety, I also ended up teaching art classes - Life Drawing and Concept Art - at the local university, and was often told I was one of their most popular and well-liked guest teachers. I'm self-taught as a writer, though I am a sponge when it comes to prose and language, so for any skills I have picked up over the years, I can only thank those whose works I have read throughout my life.
I like trying my hand at most creative crafts; painting, woodcarving, glasspainting, pewter pouring, looking to try out resins soon maybe..? I take tons upon tons of pictures. If you know me better, you have probably been exposed to my random ”Look at pretty thing X I saw today!” photo-assault. (It's a love language. ♥)
I used to study archaeology at university for years, before sidling over into a creative career as a museum-illustrator, and then onward to other projects from there. It's amazing what a 100.000+ year view on humanity will do for your sense of perspective! People are people. People have always been people. We are all one people - and diversity in culture, ethnicity and language is one of the most beautiful arts of our human race. Our differences and samenesses always to be equally celebrated. (Now if we could only get better at looking back and learn from previous civilizations' mistakes so we'd stop repeating them...)
I like cats. And betta fish. And purple roses (I used to collect purple rose cultivars, before I got too fatigued to be able to take care of my garden properly. Some still live! Rhapsody In Blue is a trooper, if you want a really hardy purple rose! They can even live in pots, if you don't have a garden.)
Tumblr media
(See, I told you I could never resist a chance to share a photo...)
I am very, very forgetful. I got my neurodivergence diagnoses very late in life, and by then my brain was so burned out, it's permanently damaged. Fatigue, memory problems and concentration issues are things I always struggle with. If I ghost you, it's not because I'm upset or dislike you – I either missed your message, or forgot about it, or just didn’t know what to say. I'm sorry. I'm trying my best. ♥
I believe in kindness.
I try to be kind and understanding, and meet others with patience. It's taken me a lifetime fraught with generous amounts of trauma to learn to feel strong, comfortable and mostly at peace with myself, and I have very little interest in conflict or drama.
That's about it, Silvy all summed up.
Wishing all you a happy weekend!

Congrats on the all-crusader Three Iron Crowns mission! I'm curious, what did you trinket them with, especially the unprotected fourth boi? I've been trying to think of what I'm gonna do in my own crusader run (inspired by yours!) and the best I can think of is like hero's ring and martyrs seal for the unlucky boi? I'm curious what you used!
thank you for your encouragement!! okay okay im actually super excited to answer this bc doing this run has given me so much useless knowledge about crusaders and the minutiae of darkest dungeon. this is gonna be long so im gonna stick all of my advice under the cut!
disclaimer: im doing this run on radiant with default settings, with the district DLC enabled. if i finish this run, im gonna try again on darkest difficulty
mods used: Crusader Only by Sandbag as well as a bunch of skin mods that don’t affect gameplay, but that i can recommend if you’re interested! the crusader mod ensures that only crusaders show up in your stagecoach and eliminates class-locked trinkets from other classes, while leaving the crusader-only trinkets and general use trinkets in place.
first off i didn’t have an unprotected fourth boi when i did my successful run lol. idk if anyone else has encountered this, if it’s intentional or a glitch, but if you fail that mission and retreat with at least one living hero, you get a fourth talisman of the flame. i have no clue why this happens but if this is a glitch please no one tell the devs bc if it wasn’t for this i wouldn’t have succeeded :,) once i had successfully completed the dungeon, the fourth one went away and now i have three again. so the third dungeon is gonna be fun. i think i’ll probably use the Recovery Charm and maybe Hero’s Ring? idk idk, i can make a post about that when i am forced to cross that bridge
the most dangerous part about this dungeon is the insane amount of damage the enemies here can do, plus the constant blights and bleeds. with crusaders, stress isn’t really a problem as long as you time your camps well. since they have poor dodge, you have no hope of avoiding the damage, you must endure it. almost all of it. the trinkets i used reflect this:
first and second position:
Talisman of the Flame & Recovery Charm (+40% Healing Received)
these poor bastards are gonna take most of the abuse so giving them a boost in the healing department is absolutely necessary if you want them to even make it to the templars
third position:
Talisman of the Flame & Cleansing Crystal (+40% Blight Resist, +40% Bleed Resist, +40% Debuff Resist)
looking back, if i had more than one Cleansing Crystal, i might have given it to both of the front-liners, or at least one of them. you will run out of bandages and antivenom fast if all of your crusaders are vulnerable to blights and bleeds
fourth position:
Talisman of the Flame & Ancestor’s Scroll (+25% Healing Skills, +25% Stress Skills, +10% Stress)
obviously using any stress inducing trinket is a bit of a gamble but if you’re using Inspiring Cry wisely and optimizing your crusaders’ camping stress skills, this shouldn’t be too much of a problem
(also be sure that ALL of your crusaders have the wound care camping skill equipped. i made this mistake TWICE and lost all but one of my crusaders both times)
the real secret to beating this dungeon, though, is quirk management! as soon as you start your save, look out for these quirks and snatch up any crusaders you see who have them and lock them in place ASAP:
(in order of importance)
1. Healer’s Gift (+20% Healing Skills while Camping)
2. Stout (+15% Healing Skills while Camping)
3. Fast Healer (+10% Healing Skills while Camping)
4. Eldritch Hater/Eldritch Slayer (+15% DMG & -15% Stress Against Eldritch / +10 ACC & 5% CRIT Against Eldritch)
Optional: Beast Hater/Beast Slayer (+15% DMG & -15% Stress Against Beasts / +10 ACC & 5% CRIT Against Beasts) (note: i wouldn’t bother locking these in if the crusader in question doesn’t already have stout or healer’s gift and one of the eldritch quirks above, as beast enemies are in the minority in this dungeon and these quirks are really only useful against the templars, who are Eldritch and Beast)
if you stack your quirks just right, it’s like being able to equip two extra trinkets with none of the drawbacks! be sure to stay on top of negative quirks too! you don’t want to get to this dungeon and find out that one of your boys has a Fear of Eldritch that leads to him becoming afflicted in the first battle :,)
obviously staying on top of this is going to be crazy expensive, so try and get the bank district as soon as you can! if you don’t have the CoM DLC (which is where districts come from) then be prepared to do a bunch of sadistic no torch loot runs with disposable lvl 0 meat bags.
here are the quirks that my Beautiful and Perfect Boys had when they beat this dungeon, in order of their positioning:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
i hope this answered your question! if you have more questions while you do your run, don’t hesitate to ask me! i love talking about game mechanics! best of luck to you!

Thank you, HS^2, WhatPumpkin
When 4/13 came a few years back, and we were told there would be an Epilogue, I was excited. Then, on 4/20, it dropped, and I ravenously consumed every single page in a span of hours. I didn't check my Social Media, I barely checked my Discord, I did nothing more than Read. And it was great! It really was. I genuinely enjoyed what I read. It WAS heart-wrenching, it was SO different from what I expected, such a massive departure, but even so, I was intrigued by this new direction, and it ended in a Cliffhanger- Two, in fact, that seemed to imply a Sequel was coming.
And then it came, HS^2.
Sometimes I feel I was the only one that enjoyed this Project. And I know that is not the case, because of projects like this, because of the people I have talked to, who enjoy it. But with the amount of hatred the comic has gotten, it was sometimes difficult to even look into the Fandom Tags for new content- New Fanart, new Theories- In fear that I'd be assaulted by more and more mindless negativity.
In the end, I guess the haters 'won'. They managed to bully the writers into hiding. And that is not okay. It will never be okay, no matter how they try to twist Hussie's words, no matter how they try to escape their own accountability. I will always be grateful to Hussie, to Aysha- Lalo, Pip, Kate, Haven, everyone and anyone involved with this project for the past little bit over a year.
There's this concept in the Hatedom of HS^2, that it is Bad. Not simply that it is bad- That it is inherently, Objectively bad. That literally No One likes it, and that if anyone likes it, they're some kind of Contrarian, or have been Brainwashed into liking it, or they're Problematic in some way. Of course, it is flawed. But in moments like this? I don't care. I will say it once, and I've been saying it since the beginning.
HS^2 is good. Post-Canon is Good. It is mature, darker, different, but it is enjoyable. I was excited to see more. And I still am. No matter how much they keep bashing or insulting it, at least I hope the Team won't have to deal with as much bullshit from now on.
I will continue producing content. I will continue singing praises. And I will continue waiting. Because unlike what many believe, I enjoyed this content since the beginning, and I will keep enjoying it.
To everyone who worked and will work on HS^2? I am so, so sorry the current state of the Fandom, and the Internet, is like this. I am so sorry you have had to deal with this bullshit, and while in a lesser measure, will likely have to keep dealing with it. The work you put into this story is fantastic, and you've genuinely provided me with some of my favorite moments of Homestuck, even more than the Original.
I am a transgender, polyamorous, pansexual woman. I've seen accusations from other trans people, gay people, queer people in general, towards the team, that I simply couldn't agree with. That were assuming the worst faith from a group that was their equal, that was also queer, and pushing their experiences, views, out there for people like them to see.
This was an act of Cannibalism. Cannibalization of the Queer Community, on itself, simply because people pushed the idea there's only some ways to be Trans, or to depict Gay Characters, and simply ignored there were real people with similar experiences behind the characters, for the sake of some misguided sense of moral purity.
I apologize to the HS^2 team, but I don't do it for their sake. I trust that they're doing well, and hope that they take care in their future endeavors. I apologize for my sake, because I feel seething anger to know I share a Fandom with people who would stoop so low and harm people like me, that'd put this fictional story above the safety and agency of queer creators.
So as I mentioned? I will keep creating. And I hope you all keep creating to. Thanks to the team, apologies to them. But considering how all of this has gotten, mere apologies or thanks feel shallow. I will keep being around. I will keep supporting them when they pop up. And when HS^2 is done, no matter how long it takes, I will enjoy it as I had been until now.

2020 Year In Review
This year once again I invited some friends and colleagues to reflect on 2020

2020 was a troubling and disturbing year. I created a lot of music and experienced a lot of nights waking at 5am in a panic. I deeply missed the sacred experience of being able to see live music. In its absence of that I listened to a lot of music. It was difficult to whittle down this list but here are a lot of albums I enjoyed in 2020, in no particular order.

With all live performances canceled, this was truly the year of demo videos and home studio recording for me. These are 10 pieces of gear that came out in 2020 that helped keep me feeling creative and inspired during lockdown. In no particular order:
EHX Oceans 12 Dual Stereo Reverb - The Oceans 12 ticks all the boxes for what I’m looking for in a great soundscaping reverb. I used the Shimmer and Reverse algorithms in conjunction a lot when I was composing music for a film score.
Chase Bliss Audio Blooper - While I don’t actually own a Blooper, I had the pleasure of borrowing one from Mike of Baranik Guitars after NAMM this year. He made an incredible Blooper-inspired guitar and I was completely charmed by them both. Chase Bliss always delivers pedals that push me creatively and the Blooper truly hits the mark.
Cooper FX Arcades - I love everything Cooper FX has released to-date so the opportunity to access those sounds in one pedal via plug-in cartridges is just awesome.
SolidGoldFX NU-33 - I was asked to do a demo of this pedal for its release and ended up being really charmed by this box’s approach to lo-fi nostalgia. I’ve used it a lot for film scoring and highly recommend adding it to your collection.
Demedash Effects T-120 DLX V2 - I LOVE a good tape echo and the T-120 Deluxe V2 ranks up there with the best I’ve tried. This pedal made its way to me this Christmas and I look forward to making some beautiful sounds with it in the new year.
Hologram Electronics Microcosm - The Microcosm is one of those pedals where you should fully read the manual before diving in but once you put in that initial effort you’ve got a massively powerful tool on your hands. It does glitch like no other. Definitely worth the homework
Azzam Bells MP019 - I discovered this unique instrument through a post on Reverb’s IG page and immediately looked it up and ordered one. These experimental percussion instruments are hand-made in Italy and they’re as beautiful visually as they are sonically. I used it for bowed cymbal and daxophone sounds on a film score and it was absolutely haunting.
Echopark Dual Harmonic Boost 2 - I love the control you have over dialing in the perfect amount of grit with these dual boost circuits. I use it a lot as a textural tool when I’m laying down drones or bringing in big distorted swells. It’s one of the most versatile overdrives in my collection and I love that.
Fender Parallel Universe Series Volume II Maverick Dorado - I was smitten with the Maverick Dorado when I first saw it at NAMM. It has a lot of the specs that I look for in a guitar and the body shape with the Mystic Pine finish just blew me away. I hope that I get to use it live soon.
Polyeffects Beebo - The Beebo is one of those pedals that I genuinely feel is smarter than I am. It’s like an entire computer in one small touchscreen box. I can’t claim to have mastered using it yet but the sounds that I have managed to get out of it so far have been brilliant. I’m looking forward to spending more time with this box in 2021

HELM 2020 REVIEW
Let's get the bad stuff out the way first, 2020 was undoubtedly an awful year. I'm still not sure how to really respond to seeing a global pandemic bring the capital to its knees and everything I love and hold dear to a grinding halt. Our government fucked it's response, putting profit before people and killing tens of thousands. The Labour Party descended into farce with the newly elected leader Sir Keith revealing himself as a bland centrist with no opposition or ideas. On a personal level it sucked not being able to travel or see my friends in different parts of the world - or even the same country - who I am starting to miss a lot. However, I was fortunate enough to get through the year with my sanity intact. Music, art and culture once again being my main positive. I think I listened to more music than I have in any year ever. I read more books than I have done since I was a teenager probably. I also re-discovered the joys of walking long distances and am extremely thankful for living near a lot of incredible green spaces: Epping Forest, Walthamstow Wetlands, Walthamstow Marshes, Wanstead Park, Wanstead Flats...
Music. My favourite albums of the year.

A shout-out to Jon Abby's AMPLIFY series on Bandcamp / Facebook, which I contributed a new piece of music to.
A shout out to the labels where most of the music I listened to seemed to come from:
The Trilogy Tapes Iron Bonehead Penultimate Press Dais La Vida Es Un Mus
Gigs. Despite live music being destroyed in 2020 I still saw a few unforgettable performances at the beginning of the year.
Graham Lambkin @ The ICA, London Puce Mary / JFK @ The Glove That Fits, London Demilich @ Finnfest, The Garage, London Container / PC World / National Unrest @ Venue MOT, London S.H.I.T / Asid / Chubby & The Gang @ Static Shock Festival, ExFed, London
Books I enjoyed. Most not published this year, but all read in 2020.
Joe Kennedy - Authentocrats David Balzer - Curationism Tom Mills - BBC: The Myth Of A Public Service Simon Morris - Consumer Guide: Special Edition Luke Turner - Out Of The Woods Various - Bad News For Labour Mike Wendling - Alt-Right Baited Area issues 1 & 2.
Film. Three good films I saw this year which I hadn't before.
Suspiria (Remake) Midsommar Cannibal Holocaust
Podcasts. I listened to a lot of these whilst walking.
We Don't Talk About The Weather Novara Media Tysky Sour & Novara FM Grounded with Louis Theroux System of Systems Red Scare loveline episodes Suite 212 NOISEXTRA Social Discipline CONTAIN
TV.
Didn't watch a huge amount and what I did was mostly trash. For some reason I rewatched both series' of This Life, a British drama from the late 90's about a group of young professionals house sharing and navigating their careers. Very cringey and has aged terribly, but it was perversely fascinating to revisit something from that time in the age of the pandemic. Following on from this I binge watched the entire series of Industry which was entertaining enough. A programme about a bunch of horny bankers with what felt like a confused ideology behind it. It seemed stuck between trying to criticise and glorify the culture around the industry, but also protect the industry itself from outside criticism by portraying anyone who may oppose as an insufferable wanker. Currently halfway through Succession which is OK. The Murdoch documentaries on the BBC were excellent and a rare respite from their descent into client journalism.
Thanks to anyone who listened to my music this year also. Best wishes to you all for 2021.

1. My Nr. 1 lesson: patience. Whether it's bouncing through 30 seconds of severe turbulence at 39000 feet or slogging through 30 minutes of a interminable piece of concert music, one attribute I've tried to develop is the ability to see past the discrete and awaited ending, the exact framing of the immediate process, but put it into the context of a larger time frame. I've found that this year more than all others has demanded it. Breathing helps...
2. Books: revisiting old favorites from the realm of Thomas Pynchon and Philip K. Dick (both especially relevant), digging into John Lomax's portrait of Jelly Roll Morton, the works of Colson Whitehead, random things off of the shelf…
3. Composing: with touring off the table, I focused on that which needed to be written, some requested and commissioned, some spontaneously springing forth. Composing requires that one open the windows wide to the world, which at this moment brought in grief, terror, uncertainty, anxiety, visions of plague and pestilence and incipient fascism. Okay, now shut the window and get to work! How to process, translate, transform? The work can be a comfortable and obsessive cocoon once one learns to handle the radioactive materials and put them into the creativity reactor.
4. Beans! We have long been a fan in our house of the wide world of legumes but this year brought two stars to the front: the black bean and the red lentil. The black bean commands the lofty peaks but the seemingly infinite variations of dal surround it. Ginger, garlic, turmeric, smoked paprika, cayenne, onions, and olive oil form the basis then imagination builds.
5. Online teaching substituted for my canceled conduction of workshops in the Pyrenees Mountains of France. Between the participants and myself, we built a temporary but very congenial space online to share concepts and music. In addition, private lessons brought conversation and music with new friends in Germany, Italy, California, Australia, Illinois, Denmark, Pennsylvania, Spain, Florida, Brazil.
6. What started out as "stress baking" (before I even had heard of the term) soon became a frequent practice that yielded very edible results. The twins preferred the sweeter forays into banana bread and chocolate cake. I tried to find a balance between tried-and-true techniques and experiments in texture and taste with yeasted pumpernickels, multi-grains, and seed breads.
7. While not the same as performing 'live ', online gigs proved that it was possible to generate a surprising amount of adrenaline even without the pheromonal handshaking of a room filled with receptive ears. As a corollary, online recording collaborations with friends worldwide proved to be inspiring and a suitable substrate for sonic experimentation, exploration of new instruments, tunings, effects programming, structures. In these realms, shout-outs to Helene Breschand, Mike Cooper, Henry Kaiser, Tracie Morris, Mikel Banks, Dougie Bowne, Payton McDonald, Billy Martin, Colin Stetson, Jim O'Rourke, Scott Amendola, Roberto Zorzi, Jason Hoopes, Eric Mingus, Melanie Dyer, Dave Hofstra, Don McKenzie, Sergio Sorrentino, Veniero Rizzardi, Taylor Ho Bynum, Scott Fields, Bachir Attar, Karl Bruckmaier, Robbie Lee, Matthew Evan Taylor, Matteo Liberatore, Al Kaatz, David Barratt, Jessica Hallock, Kolin Zeinikov, Robbie Lee, Jeremy Nesse, James Ilgenfritz, Sergio Armaroli, Steve Piccolo, Sandy Ewen, David Weinstein, Jim Whittemore, Chris Vine, Werner Puntigam, William Schimmel.

Ten Things That Didn’t Happen in 2020
1.  I didn’t write a ton of new music. Don’t get me wrong, I wrote some. I always do. But mostly I focused on my new YouTube channel, essays, and on getting old recordings released. I haven’t even been working a day-job so I thought I was going to write my next Ring Cycle, but I really didn’t find Covid inspiring.
2.  Trump wasn’t re-elected. Cool.
3. I didn’t lose anyone to Covid. I am, of course, profoundly grateful for this. But I feel pretty embarrassed remembering group-texting ten friends in March, “We are all going to see a loved one die. Every single one of us. Don’t kid yourselves”. I can get hysterical, and that was somewhat irresponsible of me.
4.  No revolution happened. I don’t mean to be smug or cynical, or to belittle anyone’s participation in the protests. But, as far as I can tell, nothing happened in 2020 that promises to reduce police brutality or human suffering of any kind. We’ll see. That burning Minneapolis police station was exciting to watch at the time, if only on an aesthetic level.
5.  I have a stack of unread books I bought this year, just staring at me, with nary a crease among them. These include:
Adorno and Horkheimer, The Dialectic of Enlightenment (looks amazing, but I haven’t touched it) Marx, Grundrisse (it’s 1000 pages for fuck’s sake. Amazon also accidentally sent me two copies, and its double presence in the stack is just comical) Reza Negarestani, Intelligence and Spirit (the first 15 pages blew my mind, then my mind blew it off)
6.  I didn’t settle into living in LA. I moved here six months before Covid and I was just starting to cultivate some friendships and play shows. This was quashed and I still feel like I still live in New York. I still barely know the layout of the city here.
7.  No brand-new buzzy musical artists burst onto the scene, that I can recall. No new hyped micro-genre of the moment. There was just no way for there to be a hot new trend. I’d say that was refreshing, but it wasn’t.
8.  Tyson’s return was not awesome. Two minute rounds, ended in a draw. I’ve been getting way into boxing this past year. This fight was a bummer. I’m looking forward to Mayweather vs Logan Paul (LOL) because we know it’s comedy ahead of time.
9.  For three weeks in July, I didn’t do a single thing other than watch street fight compilations on YouTube and Worldstar. That’s just grim.
10.  There were no school shootings in March. Apparently, this was the first March with no school shootings since 2002. Not a single 7th grader got a hand job in March either. I cannot begin to imagine what it’s like to be a kid now.

Work 2020
Despite Covid 19 lots of things actually did happen.
In Feburary I visited the only active nuclear plant in The Nederlands as part of my "Expanded Field Recording” project together with SML. In March revisited the Acousmonium at the Elevate Festival in Graz with an additional trip deep inside the Schlossberg recording old mining trains. In March and April I did two daily recording projects “Pending and Auditory Scenes” - both of Amsterdam during lockdown. In May did my first Zoom field recording workshop with the CAMP project. In June & July  two research trips in Waldviertel, Austria with Franz Pomassl. In August recorded bells and organs in 10 different churches around Amsterdam for Jacob Lekkerkerker. In September recorded Kali Malone at the Orgelpark in Amsterdam. Performed at Heart of Noise Festival in Innsbruck and A4 in Bratislava. Also went ice-skating for first time in 20? Years. In November and December I travelled to Jeju island to record field recordings for a project by Femke Herregraven for the Gwangju Biennale, commissioned for 2021. Did lots of gardening, released two tapes “Call it Philips, Eindoven” and “Zomer 2020” with Sigtryggur Berg Sigmarsson. NOW! Looking forward to 2021.

Fact, not Fiction
Well it’s been long enough and I’ve decided to just write this all out so everyone doesn’t have to read a series of reblogs and that they can have all the information in one place. Without further adieu *cracks knuckles* let’s get started.
So this entire story between Beka (Impala-dreamer) and Vanessa (flamencodiva) is being told one sided, so I’m here to tell the other side and yeah.
Vanessa had unfollowed Beka, not blocked, unfollowed because she didn’t appreciate the way that she did things and who she is as a person. Beka had messaged her asking why and the entire thing was born.
“I blocked you because you ruined my night, by writing me a 90 page essay on why I’m terrible and called me a Narcissist who only cares about people who kiss my ass.” Now, I want all of you to pay attention to how Beka so expertly framed her message to make her out to be the victim. Vanessa had unfollowed her, not publicly said anything, not messaged her anything because she wanted to keep from conflict and not make it a spectacle. Then, Beka makes a post that includes the above quotation making Vanessa out to be the villain. Beka had asked exactly why Vanessa unfollowed her and she told her why, she didn’t sugarcoat it because if she did, then that would be unfair to Beka. Beka then proceeds to post about it in order to make herself out to be the victim, once again claiming, “You are a very mean, heartless person, and you think the world revolves around you and it does not. Not everyone has to like you.” I had initially made a reblog of that very post including this quote and I had responded with -
“Please allow me to bring to light a situation that had occurred about a month or two ago. I don’t remember exactly what it was, but you had posted something that required follower interaction and after only a single hour, you had ran to the pond discord server and began complaining about how no one looks at your account and your followers don’t like you. From then on, you had gotten a lot of support from a lot of the writers in the pond. I did not want to say this because of privacy, but the fact that you have given zero privacy to Vanessa with this post, I’ve also decided to shed light on something as well.”
This was one of the many situations and events that Beka had complained about her followers. Unfortunately, I have nothing but my own word along with others that have been subjected to or have witnessed events like these. Constantly, I have found Beka complaining about how one of her fic’s flopped, how her followers don’t interact with her, and how she doesn’t like the drama from Tumblr. I think we can all agree with not liking the drama on Tumblr, but when you yourself are creating that drama, it makes it nothing less than hypocrisy. Throughout the entire post of Beka’s response she never explained anything and only told her side of the story - meaning that she is playing the victim. She expertly weaved her web of deceit and left things out on purpose to gain the support of the public so she can have all of the attention. Another thing both myself and MANY other people agree on is that Beka loves attention, constantly posting about things that make people feel bad and send her messages of encouragement even though the very things she’s complaining about, she has started. Allow me to provide some examples.
Tumblr media
The fact that she included her almost getting into “two accidents” already makes everyone feel bad for her, getting roped into her web. The repetition of her saying that she’s the “bad guy” implants into everyone's head that she’s pleading. What else screams out “Guys come support me because everyone is making me out to be the bad guy.” Maybe you really are the bad guy, ever thought about that? The “she” that she is referring to is Vanessa and I don’t think I can find a single example of her “terrorism” ever. Oh do you mean when she “terrorizes” other writers by reblogging their stuff with encouraging messages? Is she “terrorizing” her friends when she tags them in a funny gif set? If so wow, she really does terrorize people, you’re right!
Tumblr media
This really made me laugh out loud.
Let me start off by reminding all of you that Vanessa is also considered a “big blog” so you going after her for doing everything you have listed here is wrong, but when you do it, you’re allowed to complain about it? Let me also direct your attention over to the hashtag, “I’m out” The sheer amount of times I have witnessed Beka hashtag something with “I’m out” is abysmal. It’s another technique she uses to get people to message her going “oh no please don’t leave!” And what makes me know that for a fact is that every single time she says that she’s “out” I see her responding to asks from people sending encouraging messages. I’m really fed up about it and I just want to share it with all of you who might not be aware of all of these things so you don’t blindly follow and defend her. I used to follow her myself, but when I realized all of these things, I separated myself from that negativity and attention seeking.
Tumblr media
The second I had made my initial reblog, Beka had blocked me even though I had said nothing negative and only shed light on something. That shows that she’s trying to cover it up so her image doesn’t get tarnaged. Does this not show how desperate she is to play victim? In this entire little post, she didn’t address a single thing that anyone had responded with and instead found more things to complain about, once again leaving things out to keep her status as the victim.
Tumblr media
Now, some people might take what I’m about to say as insensitive but I’m really only stating the facts because I am not appeased by Beka’s self victimization.
#fine if you want me dead, ...who said that they wanted you dead? I apologize but I don’t remember a single person saying that. This is yet ANOTHER way she is trying to get people to go “Oh no! Don’t think like that! Don’t listen to the haters!” It really baffles me how good she is at playing the victim but also at how ridiculous her antics are.
Another thing I want to add in is a post that Beka had made however many months ago talking about how the “SPN Family” was becoming negative and toxic.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now to be honest, I think that we can all agree with this at least somewhat and I was actually proud of Beka for writing and posting this. That is, until she made it ALL about herself again.
Tumblr media
The second that post was posted, many people tried to spread positivity and love to a lot of others by tagging all of their friends and saying that they are grateful for them and that they love them. Beka then posted the picture above. That’s when I knew she really hadn’t changed at all. She’s proving herself that she just wanted attention in that post by saying “Beka who?” Meaning that she wanted everyone to go to either her DM’s, the comment section, or her asks to send words of encouragement as ALWAYS.
The reason this is so long is because if I simply claimed that Beka was an attention seeker, it wouldn’t make sense to have no evidence or even just a single piece of evidence. So I’ve provided many, and trust me, there are more.
This entire thing is simply to educate everyone who is either involved or is curious in the current situation, even though it seems like a diss, it’s really me just exposing Beka with facts, not fiction.
Since Beka deleted my reblog off of her page, I’ll just paste what I said here.
This entire situation really disheartens me.
Let me start off with the fact that Vanessa (flamencodiva) has DELETED her account because of this.
The fact that you came after her for wanting to be Tumblr famous is really wrong and allow me to explain why it is. Vanessa is a close friend of mine and I talk to her almost every single day. She is THE most selfless person I have ever met and is always trying to make others happy even if it makes her sad. She constantly reblogs everyone’s writing to encourage new and upcoming writers, and writers who have been around for a while to spread POSITIVITY. She has never once complained about notes, likes, or follows so I genuinely want to know why you felt the need to say she wants to be Tumblr famous. The only reason she went on anon for that message is because you blocked her so she had no other way of contacting you about why you had blocked her.
She had privately messaged you to keep this between the two of you but you decided to turn it public, which doesn’t make her the victim, it makes YOU the victim. Right now, everyone who have seen this post knows YOUR side of the story but not hers. Yes, she comes across aggressive, but that’s only if you give her a good reason because you had upset either her or one of her friends which she cherishes.
“You are a very mean, heartless person, and you think the world revolves around you and it does not. Not everyone has to like you”
Please allow me to bring to light a situation that had occurred about a month or two ago. I don’t remember exactly what it was, but you had posted something that required follower interaction and after only a single hour, you had ran to the pond discord server and began complaining about how no one looks at your account and your followers don’t like you. From then on, you had gotten a lot of support from a lot of the writers in the pond.
I did not want to say this because of privacy, but the fact that you have given zero privacy to Vanessa with this post, I’ve also decided to shed light on something as well.
Her deleting her account ABSOLUTELY discredits your argument of her wanting to be famous because now she has no account, no followers, no fics, nothing.
I’m not writing all of this to create more conflict, only to further educate a lot of the people reblogging this and supporting Beka and being extremely negative to Vanessa right now. I personally have unfollowed you for personal reasons but I have not blocked you because I do not deem it necessary and I do not encourage negativity. This post really just oozes negativity and self victimization so I had decided to throw in my ten cents. You can come after me for this or not it’s really up to you but I did not write this with the intent to attack or diss, only to educate. Have a nice day everyone ❤
