Anime Semantics #16: Classical heroism

"The Amazing Spiderman 2012" is a perfect example of how to do this right

Peter is the main character, the protagonist, but he uses the mask to try to get vengeance, he's not a hero but he's the protagonist, yes he caught "a" car thief but it was because he fit the profile of his prey, not because he was doing the right thing entirely.

He isn't " Spider-Man" or a "Hero" in truest sense until he saves that little boy on the bridge, and feels the weight of serving the preservation of someone's life, an agenda outside his own interest.

Even tho I didn't really fancy the film as a whole, that narrative makes sense in that context. And it works so well for this version of the character.

I wish that was the movie in it's entirety but that's one way to develop a hero. Not my preference as a film, but It's an underrated story.

a frustrating masterpiece. Marc Webb just gets it. it's unfortunate i have to say this but, go seek out the extended edition fanedit. this is not a Spider-Man origin story, this is a PETER PARKER origin story, and none of you fucking get it! this deserves to be seen in theaters.
