Round 1 Part 7 Poll 3
Propaganda
She's has the worst of times to match her morals, ok? There's that but Locked Tomb spoilers ahead if you want more. There it goes ...
She is above average but not exceptional unless you count she is the daughther of the Chief of the Admiralty. But onto what she has done/suffered : first she gets her lieutenant (they work in matched pairs in the story ) beaten up when she put her against what she thought was the weakest of the group that turned out to be more powerful than anyone could predict. Then she got said lieutenant killed horribly by a mistake she made.
Got captured by the enemies that do not let her die and instead use her special habilities to maneuver a ship . The woman she's been pining for twelve years is also there trying to convince her to deflect and change sides or at least let her take the place of her dead lieutenant to be by her side but she does neither preferring to suffer in silence.
Finally she was taken to another location where she was tortured for six months due being exposed to a blue orb that drive those with her habilities into madness .
All this because of a misplaced sense of loyalty to an imperializing emperor and she doesn't even have her own ship ! "
God's most autistic soldier <3 literally he is god's soldier he's the chosen one. He was chosen from birth to either destroy the sea or flood the planet because the sun and moon goddesses couldn't figure out if they wanted more land or sea on their planet so they picked some guy to do it for them. Gillion also collects titles. Here's some of them: Champion of the Undersea; Hero of the Deep; The One; Singer Songwriter for Gillion and the Tidestriders' hit single The Hole In Your Heart; Paramount Champion; Walking Fish; Moisture Master; Eater of Grass, Beater of Ass. That's probably enough for now ahah he has wayy more. Also he is a fish man (triton)

Sparks Must Fly to Start a Fire (2/2)
Hellooooo again people. This is the second part as promised! It concludes the small serie, for a grand total of 12.5k words, which is higher than my average if I’m honest 😂 I had so much fun writing this, thanks anon! I hope it was up to your expectations! Enjoy part 2 xx
Masterlist in bio // pinned
Pairing: Jason Todd x reader
Word count: 7106
Warnings: violence, language, a bit of trauma
Day 9
“... There is no development in the case, all search parties came up with nothing. The GCPD now believes the disappearance of the young woman has a direct link to the major leak of incriminating documents that were shared to the DA’s office. The investigation, conducted by commissioner Gordon, might sound the fall of an empire of organized crime in Gotham if it goes through trial…”
“I was supposed to marry Vitto, today” You spoke up with mild boredom over yet another news story about you. You hadn’t realized time had flown this fast ever since you betrayed your family.
“Oh, oh wow” Jason hadn’t expected that. “Why would anyone do that?”
In the last days you had gotten into a semi-comfortable routine. The bickering was still very much present, but the snark had considerably deescalated. You had now tasted every snack he told you regular people ate, even those energy drinks he seemed to like to consume during long drives. You had even taken a cautious liking to the canned soups, which remained the only thing you knew how to make on a stove. Still, you didn’t escape Jason’s mockery everytime you didn’t know how to do something “simple”. You didn’t think you’d ever escape it, no matter what.
“It’s not like I had a choice” You said as a matter of fact, leaning back on the headrest of the car. “Women in my world are either trophies or mothers, depending on whether or not they’re still in their prime”
“Let me guess, you were to be Vitto’s trophy?”
“Bingo”
“How old is he, like 50?” He snorted.
“46” You corrected. “Not that it makes any difference”
Jason gagged. “Guess you dodged a serious bullet there”
“God, marrying that manwhore plagued my nightmares for weeks” You chuckled, looking up at the roof of the car. “Hope he rots in jail once this is over”
“Arranged marriage, uh?” He said, sending you a quick uncomfortable glance. Something akin to remorse flashed very briefly across his face, but it was gone as soon as it came. You only nodded. “Sorry about that”
“Don’t be” You brushed off. “That was essentially their downfall in the end. Half of the reasons why I leaked the documents was to prove to my family I am not a chew toy to throw to the dogs. A power grab was out of the question, especially after one of my distant cousins, Alaina, tried and got gunned down. I thought if I was to get killed, I’d go down trying to be better”
Your words were followed by silence, and you realized you had said too much. You didn’t want or need his pity. You cleared your throat and looked away. Soon enough, Jason pulled into a shady looking motel and stopped the car. You glanced in disgust at the overall state of the motel, thinking about how it was definitely the worst one you had stayed in so far, even if you hadn’t stepped foot in yet. The vacancy sign was flashing against the sunset in the distance, and it gave you serious serial killer vibes.
You grabbed your travel bag from the backseat and followed Jason in. The neons inside were barely functioning, casting a harsh glow on the lobby, if anyone could call it a lobby. The man behind the counter looked up at the sound of the little bell above the door and stood up slowly, showing off the grease stains on his yellowed wife-beater. He gave the impression of being just as crooked as his motel, especially with the creepy grin he gave the both of you, but especially to you. Jason walked up to the counter, unbothered by the general mood of the place.
“Good evening” The clerk greeted with a smoke clouded voice, glancing in between you two. “For an hour or two?”
You grimaced while Jason blinked slowly. Then, he smiled one of his smiles that looked normal, but hid something dangerous when you looked close. You had found yourself on the other end of those more times than not ever since he became your unofficial bodyguard. “Got anything for the night?”
The clerk laughed while you wanted to hit him. Hit them both, actually.
“I like your style, kid” He wrote something on his clipboard before turning around and grabbing a key from the wall. “That’ll be 60”
Jason took out three 20$ bills from his wallet and handed them in exchange for the keys. Jason however leaned further on the counter. “How thick are the walls in there?”
“You sly dog” He chortled, and Jason joined. “Don’t worry, if your girl ain’t much of a screamer nobody will know what you be doing. Here, take that, if you want some more fun”
“Perfect” His lips curled up as he accepted the flyer handed to him. You caught a glimpse of the bright green paper, announcing some kind of escort service. “Thanks”
“Aight kid, room 141. Have fun”
You forced yourself to ignore the lusty eyes he sent your way and snatched the keys from Jason’s hand, hurrying to the room. “What was that?” You hissed under your breath.
“You’re in a place full of suspicious people” He hissed back. “You gotta act suspicious with them or they’ll single you out”
“Did you really have to make it seem like I was a prostitute?” You said as you unlocked the door and pushed it open. You stepped in and let him in, before locking again the door behind him.
“There’s nothing wrong with being…” He trailed off as he halted his steps. His frame blocked the sight of the room for you, so you didn’t know what he was talking about. Was it dirty? Were there rodents? “Oh you must be fucking kidding me”
You finally peeked around him, to see only one bed rather than the two queens he usually asked. He had forgotten this time to ask, and the clerk had naturally insinuated you’d want to be together. How could he have not?
“At least it’s a King bed this time” You sniggered. “More space”
“I’m gonna get it changed” He turned around to go back to the reception desk.
“Wasn’t it you who said not to act suspicious?” You raised a challenging eyebrow. “If you go back there and ask for two beds, won’t that ruin all that acting you did over there?”
He spun around once again, facing you with narrowed eyes. He obviously didn’t like you using his logic against him. “Right.” He then side stepped you and went straight to the windows. He closed the blinds and proceeded to check the walls for… Whatever. He looked strange doing it.
“And right now you’re…” You trailed off, trying to find why he was all but caressing the dirty walls.
“Checking for cameras” He finished, looking inside a lamp. “Those motels sometimes have hidden cameras and the owners resell the tapes on porn sites”
“Oh god” You reacted, horrified. And he had the audacity to paint you off as a criminal, when those kinds of people existed. You thought you would be sick. He paused, sending you what you thought was a concerned glance--but it couldn’t be--before he returned to his examination.
“That’s why I’m making sure there’s none here” He mumbled.
You nodded, then carefully made your way to the bed. Despite the overwhelming scent of cigarettes latched onto the fabric, the sheet seemed relatively clean, at least for the general quality of the establishment. You dropped your bag in front of the dresser beside you and sat on the edge of the bed as Jason finished his inspection.
“All clear” He announced before taking out his gun from his belt and putting it on the nightstand. “You should rest, we won’t stay here too long. Also, if you can avoid the shower, I’d recommend you wait until we are somewhere else”
“I hate it here”
“Yeah well, our disastrous stop to Target has kind of tied our hands, princess” He shrugged, like it was your fault you had been found. “So we gotta settle for even less if you don’t want a redo”
“Will you ever stop calling me that?” You glared at him.
“What, princess?” He asked rhetorically, then paused and pretended to think. “No, no I don’t think so”
“You’re insufferable” You scoffed, climbing up further on the bed.
“I wouldn’t get under the covers either” He warned as you were about to pull back the comforter, totally ignoring your comment on his general attitude. “I doubt they’re washing them real good”
You shuddered in disgust as you instead opted for bringing your knees to your chest, hoping the room wouldn’t get too cold during the night.
Day 10
You didn’t if it was your state still clouded by sleep, or the shock that made you see the scene happen in slow motion.
Jason was waking up, sitting in the bed at a reasonable distance from you as your eyes cracked open. Still, you saw the sequence clearly. His back tensed and his head snapped to the window, then his eyes widened. He reacted in a fraction of second, grabbing his gun on the fly and diving on your side. You had barely the time to register his body colliding with yours that the first machine gun went off. You hit the ground hard, but you didn’t feel anything in the spike of adrenaline and paralyzing fear that surged through you. You could only close your eyes as bullets rained over you, and yet you weren’t even touched by the wood and cotton flying everywhere as his body caged yours in protection. His string of curse was audible above the commotion, which let you know he wasn’t gravely wounded yet. Yet.
There was a pause in the shooting, but your eyes were still ringing so loud you didn’t hear him call your name at first. You opened your eyes, disoriented.
“Hey, hey stay with me” He hurried his words, glancing over his shoulders. “Roll under the bed, don’t come out until I come and get you, and if they try to get you, hit them with anything you find, aim for the head”
You could only nod as he helped you get under the bed, and for one you couldn’t even be bothered to notice how filthy it was under there. You were terrified for you, but also for Jason who would face those people with a handgun only. You just hoped his skills hadn’t been exaggerated, or else it would be bad news for everyone.
There was chatter in between the gun fires, but you couldn’t decipher the voices. You counted there were at least six different tones of shout. However, judging by the familiar smugness of the exchange, you could have sworn it was Jason mocking them and not the other way around. It made you wonder exactly what kind of security he had done if he was taking the time to be smug in a one against five fight. Still, you were glad to have him on your side rather than against you.
“Hey”
You jumped and screamed at the sudden face appearing to your left, but let out a breath of relief when you saw it was Jason. He helped you out from under the bed, his glance shifty in between the door and windows. The room was a mess, he was covered in blood you doubted was his, and he was still on guards.
“So, we need to leave now” He said, already picking up his bag and yours. You noticed a second gun now strapped on his thigh and various new weapons in a utility belt. Where he got that was a mystery, but you didn’t question it. He gently pressed you along the bodies dropped at the threshold of the room and in the hallway until you reached the reception desk. You counted seven bodies. The same creepy clerk was cowering behind his desk, a darker stain on the crotch of his pants. Jason gave him an overall look and sighed, shaking his head. Still, he paused in front of him and dropped the bags.
“You son of a bitch” He chuckled lowly, menacingly. “You sold us out, didn’t you?”
He whined in response, confirming Jason’s suspicion.
“How much did you cash on the tip? 3k? 4k?” He taunted further, tsking in disapproval. “Can’t trust anyone these days”
“Please, I needed the money--”
Jason shot two bullets in his head. “Don’t care”
He turned on his heels and grabbed the bags again, bringing you along as gently as he could. You went outside, but he gestured for you to wait at a good distance from the car. He went over and inspected it, taking two devices off from two different places. Bombs, you figured. He threw the first one through the windows of the reception, then the other, he shot while in the air. An explosion went off, shaking your stance on the ground as the motel’s central area went up in flames.
“Oops, gas leak” He said blandly. “Come on, let’s get out of here”
You climbed in the passenger seat, clutching your now all dusted up bag for support. You needed to hold onto something while you came to terms with the repeated attempts on your life in the last fifteen minutes. Jason drove off, leaving the smoking building off to burn.
“Sorry you had to see that back in the lobby” He spoke when you were far enough.
“It’s fine” You shook your head. “He deserved it”
He blinked, a tiny bit stunned. “Hey are you okay?”
“Should I not be?” It came out weaker than intended. “I’m way in over my head with this”
“No, no, you did the right thing” He tried to reassure you, or that’s what you thought he was trying to do. Either way, it went right over your mental downward spiralling.
“I should have stayed in my lane” You kept mumbling, flexing your fingers on your bag. “I’d still be doing my thing, away from literal murder attempts in crappy motel rooms”
“Hey hey hey” He lifted a hand up. “May I remind you that you’d be married to Vitto fucking Maroni right now if you didn’t go rogue? That thought alone should give you relief”
You let out an uncontrolled laugh. What has your life become?
“Truth is I don’t know what I’m doing” You admitted, your voice cracking. “All I’ve achieved it to piss everyone off”
“Yeah you did piss everyone off, but so do I on a daily basis” He replied, making your frown in confusion. “Sometimes pissing everyone else is the only way to get things going, y’know?”
You blinked a couple of times. “I literally don’t”
He opened his mouth to reply, then closed it immediately. He then took a deep breath, gathering his thoughts. “All I’m saying is, doing the right thing is an ugly job. It’s hard and messy and fucks with you, but it doesn’t mean you shouldn’t try and do it anyway. I know this is all new for you, and this is a rather harsh welcome party, but you gotta fight through it”
You nodded, casting your eyes on him at last. His skin was reddened by the drying blood on his face and hair, and his clothes were dirty and torn. Amidst the cooling blood, you noticed a steady flow of brighter red coming off a hole in the sleeve of his t-shirt, widening the already big stain around it.
“You’re bleeding”
He looked down at his side, unfazed. “Oh right, a bullet got me on the initial wave”
“We need to get it out and close the wound” Your eyes found his for a brief second, before his glance returned to the road.
“It can wait” He downplayed it, probably by a force of habit.
“It looks like it’s bleeding a lot” You insisted.
“I’ll be fine--”
“It’s my fault you’re hurt” You interrupted him. You felt like you had at least to do something for him, especially since he just saved your life twice. Besides, you needed to focus on something else than what had just gone down. “Let me help”
He took a deep breath, then gave a little nod. He pulled over at the next gas station and parked the car, then went to his trunk, picking his first aid kit while you went to ask for the bathroom key. You joined him at the car and went to find the bathroom in the back of the building, locking the door behind you for privacy. You stood beside him as he rummaged through it, handing you a pair of pliers and disinfecting gauzes. You waited for him to take off his jacket, laying your supplies on the counter, then carefully rolled the sleeve of his t-shirt. You grabbed a clean gauze to stop the bleeding, gently pressing on the wound.
“Have you done this before?”
You didn’t see his question come, but you answered nonetheless. “Yes, a few times” You said. “On my older brothers. That’s something we learn, just in case we are the ones to patch up our husbands”
“Is this really how you were treated?” He asked, his voice surprisingly soft compared to what you had gotten so far. “Like a service wife in training?”
“Pretty much” You nodded with a weak scoff. You carefully checked the wound, and the bleeding had almost stopped. You grabbed the alcohol gauze and tore the pack open. “There isn’t much choice but to obey”
He didn’t even flinch when you cleaned the wound. “When I pulled the gun on you the first day we met, you said it wasn’t the first time somebody did that to you” He began, recalling the events from ten days ago. “What happened the other times?”
You put the bloodied gauzes aside and grabbed the pliers, disinfecting them with a smaller alcohol wipe before going for the bullet. “Would you believe me if I said something along the lines of wildly opposing my union to the Maroni family?”
His lips curled up slightly, but his teeth were clenched as you tried to grab the bullet well lodged in his flesh. You managed to get a good grip on it and slowly pulled it out. You immediately covered the wound again with clean gauze and dropped the bullet in the trash pile.
“Bullet’s intact, you should be fine” You said, holding the gauze with one hand and searching for a needle and a stitching thread with the other.
“How old were you when it happened?”
You paused, staring at his arm. How old were you back then, when your father announced you’d be part of a two-way deal with the Maroni family? Not very old, that was for sure. You pulled the gauze away and sanitized the needle, then passed the thread in the loop. “17, I think”
“You were just a child” It came out more like a statement than a question. You shrugged before beginning the stitches. He still wasn’t flinching as the needle came in and out of his skin, making it easier for you to do a clean job. You finally tied the thread and cut it with the scissors he handed you.
“I’m sorry I pulled you into this mess” You apologized as you wrapped the wound with yet some other clean gauze and bandaged it. “I… I didn’t plan this through at all. I felt the doors close on me and I acted without even thinking of the real consequences. I thought I would be strong enough to go with it, turns out I’m not”
You had been all bark and no bite, you could see that now. You came in strong, acting like nothing could get to you, like the threat was just an imaginary bound to keep you in place. You made a bold move to cross it, and now you could clearly see how dangerous the waters you were threading in actually were. It wasn’t child’s play anymore, it was real, and you caved under the pressure on your first real trial.
He turned around as he pulled his sleeve down, facing you. He was in your space, but it didn’t feel like all the other times. His presence wasn’t threatening. “You don't have to apologize” There was something genuine in his eyes. “And to pull off what you did needs strength, even if you don’t realize it yet. Your reaction to almost being killed doesn’t change that fact”
“It certainly doesn’t feel that way”
“Trust me, princess” His little teasing smile returned. “Someone who can hold her own against me like you did is not weak”
“I was just mean” You blinked in surprise, letting out a small chuckle. “I think that’s different”
“See, still arguing” His smile widened. You had known him for ten days, but you had gotten used to him being a certain way. This light and sincere attitude he had now was, to say the least, unusual for you. When he wasn’t constantly sneering, you noticed his features better. His blue eyes carried a kind spark, the type you found in a natural caretaker. The harsh angles of his jaw and cheekbones shaped a handsome face, decorated by little silver scars blending with his freckles. He was like a fallen angel shining through a broken halo, dangerous and protective, but only if you took the time to look past the burned wings. The unflattering white light of the bathroom made him look worn out, but it didn’t change anything to the raw beauty of his face. His bloody knuckles came in soft contact with your cheek, like a feather gliding on a cloud in the sky. His eyes never left yours, and even if they did, you felt like you’d follow them whichever direction they went.
He was tall, considerably so. He hovered over you like a safety blanket, your own shield from the dangers stalking you outside the door. At that moment, you had trouble understanding how his proximity had once filled you with so much unease you felt like hiding away, because all you could feel now was an all consuming calm. There was however a pulse that was alive, one that was begging you to get closer. He seemed to have felt it too; his movement was slow, letting you more than enough time to back off. As his lips slowly got closer to yours, you know you didn’t want to move away. You filled the distance separating you from him and met him there in a gentle kiss to test the water first.
It didn’t take long for you to lose control. All the emotion of the last days that had bottled up were let to run wild in between you two like an electric current, surrendering your every sense to him. Your hands went to the back of his neck for support, because god knew you needed it. His arms sneaked behind your back as he pushed further into you, quickening the pace of the kiss and clouding your mind. Tongues battled in a war that was already won, knowing in one way or another he’d be the victor. You could feel all the tension, all the frustration, all the anger and all the guilt coming in strong before burning like dry wood in a bonfire. Were there any versions of this that didn’t end where you were? It seemed impossible.
You didn’t want to open your eyes just yet when he pulled away, reluctant to even let go. He captured your lips in a couple of kisses before fully letting you catch your breath.
“Well” His voice was barely over a whisper over the panting. “That might be one way to settle an argument”
“Then I might pick more arguments” Your lips lifted in a small grin.
“And I might not object to that” His eyes were bright with amusement. “Besides, I might have gotten around to like that smart mouth of yours”
“Oh, have you now?”
“Might” He corrected.
“Sure” For the first time in what felt like forever, you actually smiled. You slowly retracted your arms from his neck, letting him stand straight again.
“Come on, let’s get out of here and put as much distance as we can from this motel” He said, but it lacked the patronizing tone it once contained. It was even like he didn’t actually want to leave just yet, but had to, or both of your safety. You shared the sentiment.
You packed the first aid kit and burned the bloody gauzes in the sink, then killed the fire and returned the key to the counter. You drove away shortly after, confident things might just be alright this time.
Day 16
You had circled back to the first place you had stayed in, the little cabin so far in the woods you were almost sure nobody would find you, or at least not yet.
Jason had told you he had installed security devices on the dirt road to make sure he was aware of anybody driving up, as well as the traps he had set in the woods. Once again, it reinforced your idea that his job experience might not have been a traditional one. You frankly didn’t mind, as you were in no position to judge a potential criminal past. Besides, you believed anything he did couldn’t be worse than what your family or the Maronis did on a daily basis.
You had woken up when the sun was already high in the sky, and to your surprise Jason had still been there, on his back and staring at the ceiling. When you had turned around on your side, he had mimicked you to come face to face with you, not talking at all. His wound on his arm had stopped bleeding during the night, for which you were thankful for. It eased your guilt to see it was healing well. You had stayed there for what seemed like hours, but it was comfortable.
“I meant to ask,” He began, his voice soft and husky from the morning. “Why did you go to Bruce with the leak?”
You blinked slowly, tilting your head slightly to the side. “Well, I couldn’t go to the police, it was out of the question. I couldn’t trust any of them to pursuit this case”
“But what made you trust Bruce in particular?”
“I… I like to listen when people talk. Before, it gave me the impression I was part of the family business and not just an accessory, and that way I got to hear bits and parts of the discussions conducted behind closed doors” You began. “More times than not I would hear how Wayne Enterprises projects got in the way of their plans, and how Bruce Wayne would always do something to undermine them legally. So after I stole the intel, there was really one way I was certain would yield results, one person I was certain would have all the interests in the world to see this trial happen”
“That’s…” He trailed off, an impressed expression on his face. “That’s surprisingly smart”
“Surprisingly?” You raised an eyebrow.
“For someone who had no idea how to use a can opener, that is”
You slapped his chest as he let out a laugh; he was so proud of his joke. “Hey, I learned!”
“I know, I know” He chuckled, reaching his hand and brushing a rogue hair strand away from your face. You had noticed as the days passed that he seemed to favor the little touches and the unspoken rather than obvious and obnoxious displays. You knew he was more of the quiet type when he wasn’t arguing with you, always working in his corner and doing his stuff. It hadn’t really changed ever since the gas station moment, but this time he would steal little glances, brush his hand against yours when he’d change gears in the car, or make sure he took out a bowl for you as well when you made your canned soup. “You adapted better than I thought you would, considering the entire lifestyle change you had to go through in the last two weeks”
“I didn’t have much choice, did I?” You grinned.
“Nope, not at all, princess” He pushed himself on his elbows and leaned down to kiss you. You smiled onto his lips, welcoming the slow movements of him against you. However, you gently pushed him back after a moment, knowing if he had it his way, you’d stay there for hours.
“Jason” You said his name when he was visibly trying to distract you again with butterfly kisses on your jaw, only pausing to give you wide, innocent eyes. Insufferable. “I have to go take a shower”
“I’ll come with” He shrugged.
“What?”
“Yeah” He nodded. “Listen. You hired me to protect you, so that’s what I’m going to do”
“From what?” You laughed at his serious tone.
“Water’s cold”
“So NOW you want to protect me from the cold water?” You raised an eyebrow. “That surely wasn’t the discourse you held two weeks ago”
“People change, princess” He sighed exaggeratedly before getting up and walking to your side of the bed. “Come on, you said it yourself, you’ve got a shower to take”
You rolled your eyes, but nonetheless accepted the hand he held out for you. You went to the bathroom and undressed, then managed to get into the relatively small shower, your back to Jason. He was so tall he actually shielded you from the water from the showerhead when he turned the shower on, getting all the burning cold on his back instead.
“See?” He chuckled. “No cold water”
“But how will I wash myself if the water doesn’t get to me?” You asked, looking at him over your shoulder. He stared blankly at you, like he didn’t think of that.
“Let me worry about it” He dismissed, making you laugh.
“Alright, alright”
He began slowly rubbing your skin with his wet hands, spreading water indirectly. His fingertips were still cold, but you knew for a fact it was slightly better than the direct flow from the tap. Goosebumps erupted all over your arms and back, both from the sudden change of temperature and his touch. You closed your eyes, enjoying the contrast in between the water and his still warm chest. He wet your hair, combing it with his hands, before he put the shampoo in and made it lather. Immediately, you recognized the smell.
“Is this your shampoo?” You asked, your eyes opening.
“Mhh”
“I thought you didn’t like when people used your stuff”
“Technically, I’m using it”
“Still!” You replied. “You practically threatened me last time I dared wear your shampoo”
“Truth is” He leaned in, his lips almost pressed against your ear. “It kinda drove me hog fucking wild to have you prancing around smelling like me”
Your eyes widened and the back of your neck heated enough for you to warm the water dripping down your back. You gulped, unable to answer that as it came as a shock for you that you have had another effect on him aside from pissing him off. He chuckled at your lack of comeback, his hot breath fanning your jaw. He slowly rinsed the soap out of your hair, then began washing your skin. His hands massaged your muscles as they went, making you sigh in contentment. At this point, you had backed so much into him you were just as much subject to the direct contact of the water as him, but you didn’t care.
He trailed small kisses from behind your ears down to your shoulder before pausing there, as if he was hesitant. He lifted his head slightly, and you could see his stare right on you from your peripheral vision.
“I need to tell you something”
You were surprised by the sudden seriousness of his words, but you tilted your head to show him you were listening.
“I’m the Red Hood”
You blinked slowly, registering his words. Well, that certainly explained things. You even wondered how you didn’t see it sooner, but now that he mentioned it, it had been rather obvious. “... Congratulations?”
You could feel he wasn’t expecting this reaction. “That’s… That’s all?” He stuttered. “You’re okay with that?”
“Why wouldn’t I be?” You turned your head to look at him properly. “You saved my life so many times, I am not about to complain how you did it”
“But I did a lot of bad too,” He argued. “Some things that might change your opinion”
“You’re seriously asking me, who comes from a crime family, if I’m okay with you doing crimes?” You deadpanned. His face changed, as if he was reevaluating his entire argument.
“When you put it like this…” He trailed off, nodding. You could however see the relief in his eyes at your acceptance of his double identity. Especially with the kind of job he was doing here with you, you could only imagine how blurred the line in between the two personas must have been at times.
“Why did you tell me?” It was a gentle question, full of wonder as to what pushed him to reveal to you such an important, personal detail about himself. Your hand sneaked up and covered his still on your forearm.
“I thought you should know” He muttered back, his voice barely rising over the noise of the water hitting the shower’s floor. “You never asked what I did before, or how I took care of seven hired guns at the motel. I wasn’t sure if you just avoided it, or…”
“Don’t worry” You interrupted him softly. “Moral compasses are no issues with me”
His lips reached yours under a freezing rain, your bodies numb to anything but each other.
Day 25
A few days ago Jason received a call from Bruce.
The arrests had been made and the trial date had been set. As you had predicted, they tried to keep the relative information about it under wraps so you wouldn’t be aware it was happening. But fortunately, with Bruce’s quiet oversight of the process, he had managed to relay the details on time. You hadn’t been very far from Gotham when the news dropped, but you were still thankful for the heads up. It had given you time to plan your safe return into the boundaries of the city, staying hidden in another one of Jason’s safehouses until the day came for you to be a witness in the trial.
It was now in progress, it had just started some minutes ago. You were staying in an adjacent room that was guarded by people under Bruce’s paycheck, with Jason laying on a couch behind you, looking at his phone while you were getting ready. You were thankful that you had brought a second designer outfit with you, because you weren’t sure your gray t-shirt from Target with the oversized men’s pants you inherited on your first day with Jason would have looked very professional or credible. You did your makeup carefully with the basic products you had, then took a look at yourself in the mirror. You smothered the creases in your blouse and made sure the belt wasn’t twisted in the loops of your slacks, and sighed.
Jason stood up from the couch and walked to you, stopping behind you and sneaking an arm around your waist. He snuggled his nose in the crook of your neck and placed a small kiss there. “Am I an asshole for thinking you look better in a 30 bucks outfit?”
You laughed despite your nervous state. He was trying to distract you and you welcomed it. “Not more than usual, no”
He gasped at your rebuttal, but you could see the amusement in his eyes. “Is that what you really think of me?” He asked. “I’m hurt”
“Aw, come here” You pouted, turning your chin over your shoulder. You raised your arm to rest your hand on his cheek and gently pulled him down into a kiss. Your eyes fluttered close when his lips met yours, letting your relish in his comforting presence. You felt your heartbeat slow down as you sighed against his lips, wishing to remain there with him for another hour or so. Alas, the moment was broken shortly after when the door opened.
“They will soon be--oh”
You pulled back from the kiss, but Jason didn’t move away at the sound of Bruce’s voice behind you. You could feel he was annoyed at his adoptive father ruining the mood, but at least he wasn’t pissed like you had seen he could be on day one. That in itself was a relief.
“Am I interrupting something?”
“No, not at all” Jason replied in a clearly sarcastic tone. You stifled back a laugh at the grimace he was doing to mock Bruce. “Perfect timing as usual”
Bruce didn’t answer that. He only closed the door behind him and headed for the desk, leaning back on it. Jason followed his movements in the mirror like a hawk.
“Don’t get me wrong, I’m glad you aren’t at each other’s throat anymore” He began, a cryptic smile on his lips. “But I hadn’t expected… Whatever this is”
It was Jason’s turn to sigh as he reluctantly parted away from you. He didn’t go far, however. He stayed by your side like another threat on your life could pop up at any moment. “Shocker”
“As I was saying” Bruce reprised, ignoring Jason’s side comment. “They will call you to the stand soon. I just wanted to check up on you and see if you had any questions or concerns before you go out”
“How solid is the case built?” You asked.
“It should hold” He nodded. “From what I’ve seen, it’s solid in front of a jury. Your testimony will have to be conclusive if we want to catch some Maroni members in the lot, but I’m confident you’ll be stellar”
You gave him a small smile. You knew your father would be there, glaring at you like you were the devil itself, but you repeated to yourself you could go through this. There was no way he would be as intimidating as Jason in the first few days, and you came out on the other side unscathered. He couldn’t hurt you anymore, and soon he would reap what he sowed.
“How secure will the witness booth be?” It was Jason who spoke this time, his eyes straight on Bruce like he was challenging him to give an answer that wouldn’t be good enough.
“The two guards in front of this room will accompany her in the courtroom” Bruce replied calmly. “There will also be one more guarding the door, and I supposed you won’t be far as well”
He only hummed in answer, but he seemed satisfied with this plan. Bruce checked his watch and stood up, hands in his pocket.
“It’s time”
You nodded, exhaling a shaky breath. You exited the room with Jason at your side and the guards behind you. You walked down a few hallways before you stopped in front of the witness booth door. You forced yourself to take deep breaths and visualize the end result. You could do this, you could do this.
“Keep your head high, stay confident” Jason muttered in your ear as the door opened in front of you. “You got this, princess”
With his last words of encouragement, you were brought into the courtroom.
Day 101
“... The sentence of the twelve convicted has dropped this morning on the order of judge Monroe, a little less than three months after the devastating trial that landed a blow on organized crime in Gotham. The twelve men will each serve a sentence ranging from twenty to forty years in a maximum security facility, on counts of attempted murders, first degree homicide, money laundering, drug trafficking and tax fraud. Amongst the convicted is Vitto Maroni, a notable figure in Gotham’s public life…”
You jumped when a loud pop dragged your attention away from the TV.
Jason was standing there with a proud grin, pouring foaming sparkling grape juice in two champagne flutes. You laughed as he handed you one, plopping next to you on the couch and clinking his glass on yours.
“Cheers to a victory,” He declared. “that wouldn’t have been possible without you”
“Don’t flatter me too much, give yourself some credit” You matched his grin. “You’re at least 20% responsible for this”
“Ah yes, my 20% contribution” He nodded thoughtfully. “Eighteen percent bullets shot, two percent bullets received I recall”
You laughed with him, drinking the fizzy beverage. He lifted his arm, and you crawled under it to snuggle on his side, careful not to spill anything. It had become a habit for you to end up one way or another in his arms, even after the trial ended. He had offered you to move in with him shortly after, when you had tried to give him the ten thousand dollars you had promised him after the trial. Not only had he refused to even look at it, but he gave you back the 5k you had already given him beforehand. He had insisted for you to keep it and invest in whatever you wanted to turn your life around like you wished.
He had been excited for you when you announced you would enroll in law school, saying your argumentative side would definitely come handy as an attorney.
“I’m proud of you”
You looked up at him to see a fond glint in his eyes, one that made your heart melt. For all of his rough edges, he was certainly very soft inside. All he wanted was for you to be safe and happy, and you couldn’t ask for someone better to start your new life with. You snuggled further into him as he kissed the top of your head and tightened his arm around you.
Thank you for being there for me” You mumbled through his clothes. “It means a lot”
“I couldn’t walk away from you even if I wanted to, princess” He smiled against your hair. “You are so stuck with me”
“Good thing I’m not going anywhere, then”
You changed the channel to a movie and spent the rest of the night cuddling on the couch, you wearing his t-shirt and shampoo and him holding you like a treasure.

Natural Chapter 14!
It’s time for the next installment of Natural!
Also read on: FF.net and AO3
Harry’s mouth trailed down Ginny’s neck and across her chest, not stopping until just above her navel. He allowed his attention to focus solely on her. Nothing else mattered. The world could combust and it wouldn’t make a difference as long as he and Ginny were still together.
“Harry?” Her voice was delightfully husky.
“Hmm?” He didn’t stop his ministrations at her abdomen.
“We can’t keep avoiding our parents.”
And that was one way to calm his randiness; mention their parents. Harry rolled off her and fell back against the messy sheets. “They haven’t asked any questions yet.”
Ginny turned to face him, lifting her head up on her elbow. “That’s because we keep claiming we have practice or the flu, but I know my mother. If we dodge another family dinner she’ll just show up at the house.”
Harry brought his hands up to scrub his face. Even after two months, the cool metal that rested on his left hand still both startled and thrilled him. They had been married for two months. Two amazing months, filled with quidditch and honoring their nuptials, though they both took off their rings when they went out in public, hoping to keep a low profile. If either of them was spotted with gold on their fourth fingers, it would be on the front page of every newspaper you could think of (and some you wouldn’t expect).
But even being unable to wear their rings out on the town hadn’t brought them down from their high. No, the only regretful thing that had been nagging at them over the past sixty days was the lack of family time they’d had. Neither of them wanted to tell their parents they had gone out and gotten married without including their families. So instead of going to the Weasley family dinners or luncheons that Harry’s mother (and Sirius, whenever he felt posh) hosted, the couple had begged off, claiming hectic schedules or bouts of illness.
No one had argued with them (both families knew how crazy quidditch and life could be), but the end of the season was almost upon them. The Harpies had their final game next week, having been unable to clinch a season win without the help of their new star chaser for most of their games. Puddlemere, however, was in the lead for the title. Their final regular season game was next week, against Holyhead.
Ginny bopped her husband on the nose. “Earth to Harry. Focus, luv. We have to tell them before some reporter snoops around and finds our certificate.”
Harry knew she was right, but fuck, he didn’t want to upset their families… He didn't want to imagine his mother’s face, let alone Molly’s! He took a deep breath and turned so he faced her. “How about we invite everyone out to dinner the night of the game?”
She considered it for a moment. “That could work. And if we’re in public our mothers can’t scream too loudly.”
“That was my thought as well.” He leaned over and kissed her. “Because I came up with the plan, though, I think you should be the one to tell them.”
Ginny let out a snort. “In your dreams, Potter.”
“You are in all my dreams, Potter.”
Harry was rather proud of that line, but Ginny’s jaw just dropped. “Oh… I sometimes forget my last name is Potter,” she admitted.
“I don’t.” Harry gave her a wicked grin and turned them until he reclaimed his position above her. His mouth grazed her ear. “I love calling you Mrs Potter.”
A sudden thought hit him as he made his way from her ear to her cheek. “Next season, we can make it so your jersey says Potter on it.” Harry couldn’t stop the smile from spreading across his face. “I can’t wait to see you with my name on your back.”
“I didn’t know you were so possessive, Mr Potter.” Ginny’s tone held bite, but Harry looked into her eyes and saw no anger. Actually, if he was reading her right (and Harry was sure he was), Ginny was more than a little turned on.
“Possessive makes me sound so egotistical. The others can look, but I reserve all rights to touch.”
Ginny leaned back and let one eyebrow raise. “Who gave you that kind of power?”
Instead of giving her a verbal reply, Harry closed the distance and kissed her, letting his teeth pull at her bottom lip when he drew away. “Feel free to tell me no whenever you want.”
The way Ginny drew him back to her was all the response he needed.

“What a presentation we’ve had today!” Mothers said for the third time since the final whistle had blown. The game had seemed so one-sided from the moment the two teams had mounted their brooms. “Weasley was in perfect form. Twelve goals and seven assists. Incredible!”
“Too true, Phil,” Gregory agreed. “The Harpies came out looking for blood.”
“And there was a bit of that. Morgan’s health report has just come in and the healers are saying he’ll make a full recovery before the first game of the playoffs.” Mothers let out a little chuckle. “I can count the number of times a keeper has knocked a beater out of the game on one hand.”
Gregory laughed along with his fellow announcer. “We all knew Hansen had a strong arm, but now Morgan now knows better than most.”
“One final recap before we change over to the Kenmare and Falmouth. Puddlemere has won their final match of the regular season by a mere ten points. The score being two hundred and seventy to two hundred and eighty.”
“Potter made a spectacular catch!” Gregory praised. “He was perfectly in tune with the chasers and their position. If he had caught it a minute sooner they would have lost. I don’t think we’ve had such a nail biter all year!”
“Not for the Harpies at least. With Weasley back, the vibe has changed.” Mothers tapped his fingers on the edge of his desk. “Weasley has become such a staple in their lineup. Leading her team with -” He paused as a mane of red hair walked out of the Harpies tunnel. “Hold on now. Speak of the devil. Weasley has come back onto the field and -- yes! -- that's Potter exiting the Puddlemere pit.”
The two announcers watched the couple meet to the by the Puddlemere tunnel. “Every time these two play against each other, we get a lovely scene,” Gregory told the listeners.
“Our local hopeless romantic, folks.” Mothers chuckled fondly. “Wait… Hey, Dan, did you see that? The gold in Potter’s hand. Do you think he kept the snitch?” The average listener was able to hear Mothers shuffle things around. “My trusty pair of omnioculars.”
Mothers zoomed into the display before him, Potter and Weasley embracing. “It seems to be… No way!” He shoved the omnioculars into his partner’s hands. “Is that a ring?”
“Now who’s the hopeless romantic.” Gregory’s laughed, but accepted the proffered item. Five seconds passed before Gregory turned to look at Mothers. “That’s a ring. And Weasley has one too. Are we looking at the Potters?”

Molly Weasley considered herself a fair woman. She liked to think the punishments she’d given her children over the years had been just and appropriate. And she’d never judged someone for something they couldn’t prevent.
But if that was true, why had her daughter (her only daughter!) gotten married without her? And then, why had her child let her find out about her nuptials through two quidditch announcers? What had she done to deserve such treatment?
Molly stared at the two guilty young adults. “Care to explain?”
“Mum,” Ginny started, but seemed unable to elaborate. She looked towards her husband. Husband! Molly’s daughter took a deep breath before starting again. “Mum. It was a spur-of-the-moment kind of thing.”
As much as Ginny had hoped that would placate her mother, those words had only rekindled her fire. With a voice both quiet and filled with rage, Molly began speaking. “Even if that was the case, why didn’t you come and tell me after? Why is that you’ve waited… how long was it?”
“Two months,” Harry muttered, not meeting her eyes.
She gave a sharp nod. “Two months. Two months my baby has been married. Not even Fred and George have done something so-” Molly couldn’t even think of a word.
It was Harry who chipped at her wall of anger. “I’m sorry, Molly. We should have told you.”
“Damn right you should have.” Molly pointed between the two. “I want to know everything, and don’t think for a second this means we won’t be having a wedding.”
Ginny exchanged a quick glance with Harry, as a smile slowly spread across her face. “Wouldn’t dream of it, Mum.”
“Good.” Molly stood to go make a quick stew for dinner. “Now, Harry, go get your parents over here. We have some things to discuss.”
Once Molly walked out of the room, Ginny released a tense sigh. “That went better than I thought. But I’ve got to say, that quiet tone is much scarier than her yelling.”
Harry nodded fervently. “I thought she was going to skin us alive.” He looked down at his hand. “How could we forget to take off our rings before the game?”
Ginny shrugged. “We were kinda too busy with our… pre-match ritual... to think about jewelry.” She gave him a light push so he stood from the sofa they’d been sent to the moment they’d arrived. “You best go fire-call the Potter brigade.”
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
“Such a lovely day for a wedding,” Arthur commented as he and Ginny stood by the back door of the Burrow. It had taken only a week for Molly and Lily to be satisfied with the wedding plans. The real challenge had been finding a date that worked for both families. That had taken a few months, but they’d finally found a day where everyone in the whole Weasley-Potter clan could be in attendance. In that time, Harry’s team had been able to clinch the championship title and Charlie’d filed all the paperwork to travel from Romania. And if you believed in serendipity (which honestly Ginny might because of this moment), they were having their wedding party on the day she had Harry had met just a few years ago.
Now after months of listening to her mother excitedly chatter about all the perfect placements and ideal seating charts, it had finally come to life -- and Ginny couldn’t help but feel a little more than grateful for the obsessive discussions between Lily and Molly. They really had created her dream wedding. Simple, yet elegant.
“You know,” Arthur mused, brushing a stray hair from Ginny’s face. “I always imagined this day differently.”
Ginny turned to her father. His face had a look that she only could describe as bittersweet. “What do you mean?”
“Well for starters, I didn’t think you’d already be married to the man I’d be giving you to.”
They both chuckled at his joke. Over the course of the last few months, the fact that Ginny and Harry (now called Hinny by the numerous articles penned about them) were already married had become a running gag between the two families. The only people who didn’t participate in the jokes were Molly and Lily, both of whom were still a little peeved at their children.
“What else?”
Arthur smiled at her. It was the same smile that he’d had when she had run up to him as a little girl, a frog clutched in her tiny fingers. She had been so happy with herself on that occasion and all she had wanted to do was show her findings to her dad.
“I’m so proud of you, Ginny.” He pulled her into a tight embrace and pressed a kiss to the top of her head. “You’ve grown into a remarkable young woman and I know you and Harry will continue to make each other happy. That’s all I’ve ever wanted for you, happiness.”
Ginny had promised herself one thing: That she wouldn’t be one of those brides who cried during her wedding. She was already married to the man for starters, also she hated tears. But Merlin, her father had gone and fucked up that plan.
“Don’t cry now.” Arthur held her at arm's length and moved his thumbs to brush at the slowly falling tears.
“I love you, Dad.” She moved closer to kiss his forehead. Taking a final deep breath, she forced herself to stop being sentimental (at least for a bit), and backed away just in time to see Bill approach them.
“Hey, you ready?” Bill smiled at her; he’d had inherited that smile from their father.
Ginny tucked her arm into Arthur’s, using her free hand to check for any stray tears. “More than ever.”
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
“And we now would like to present, the not exactly newlyweds, but our couple of honor... Mr and Mrs Potter!” Lee Jordan, the twins’ friend from school, called out from his DJ perch.
The crowd laughed and clapped as Ginny took Harry by the hand and led him to the dance floor. Harry gave her a small grimace but took charge once she situated herself in his arms.
“I wish I didn’t have two left feet,” Harry complained as he swayed them to the gentle beat of their first song.
“Well, my two right feet make up for it.” Ginny leaned up and gave him a quick kiss, much to the delight of the people watching. It wasn’t a large group of people really. Just both their teams, their families and school friends (some of Harry’s had come all the way from America).
"Ah, the true linchpin of our marriage. Together, we make one passable dancer."
Ginny laughed and rested her head over Harry’s heart. Somehow the beat of the song matched the rhythm of his heart. Thud - thud - thud. She let the words wash over her as she used Harry as the bass drum.
When you say You love the way I make you feel Everything becomes so real Don't be scared, no, don't be scared 'Cause you're all I need
“This isn’t so bad, I guess.” Harry’s head had been resting atop her head and she felt more than heard him speak.
“I would hope getting to hold your wife would be at least acceptable,” Ginny teased as she tilted her neck to look at him.
He was smiling in that way he reserved for only her. “Trust me, I always appreciate getting to hold my wife. I just appreciate what happens when I hold you in private a little more than dancing like a ponce in front of everyone.”
“Now, Mr Potter, don’t start talking about such naughty things when my mother is a mere fifteen yards away.”
That caused his smile to become a coquettish smirk. “Your mother being nearby has never stopped us before.”
Ginny had to hold in her chuckle. “Don’t start something you can’t finish, Harry.”
“Trust me, I have every intention of both of us finishing. You may even be able to take a second lap.”
This time she couldn’t contain herself. Ginny laughed and kissed her husband. “I love you.”
Harry’s hand came up and caressed her cheek, his eyes never wavering from hers. “Ditto.”
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
“Does this mean you’re taking a second honeymoon?” Max (one of Harry’s old school mates) asked, his eyebrows wiggling suggestively. After a few bouts of dancing, the married couple decided to sit down and rest their much abused feet. They had already made rounds to thank guests and they’d eaten the perfectly-cooked meal Lily had selected. Now, they were sitting at the head table, joined by a bunch of friends.
“We never really had one the first time around,” Harry admitted as he took another bite from the most delicious cake he’d ever had. His mother really had outdone herself with the catering selection.
“Where are you guys going?” Neville, Ginny’s friend, questioned.
“I picked the island of Tenerife in Spain.” Ginny leaned closer to Harry and opened her mouth for a forkful. Harry rolled his eyes fondly before cutting her a large bite and presenting it. She patted his cheek in thanks and blissfully chewed her dessert.
“Oh, I’ve had reports of high numbers of Crumple-Horned Snorkack mating on the Canary Islands around this time of year.” Luna Lovegood watched them with a dreamy look that slightly alarmed Harry. No matter how many times he had talked with Luna, Harry was still surprised by the woman’s words and actions. “Are you going to join them?” Luna added serenely.
And somehow she’s topped herself, Harry thought. He exchanged looks with Max and Duncan. They both were biting their fists to hold in their laughter.
Ginny, however, took it in stride. “Maybe they’re gonna join us.”
Harry turned to his wife, unable to even think of words; his old school mates gave up trying to hold in their chuckles.
Luna nodded understandingly. “Yes, you would want to be the dominant species. Good thinking, Ginny.”
Neville just shook his head, used to the way his two friends worked. Harry blinked rapidly for a few moments before pulling his laughing wife to her feet and leading her to the dance floor.
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
“¿Quieres otra copa?” the waiter asked as Ginny sipped the last of her tinto de verano.
“Sí, por favor.” She handed him her empty cup and he walked away. Ginny took the opportunity to lean back in her sunbathing chair and look over at her nicely-tanned husband. His wide-brim hat was pulled over his face, shielding him from the Spanish sun.
Ginny reached across the almost nonexistent gap between them and started walking her fingers up his arm. She could feel the goose pimples rise as she made her way up to his shoulder. Moving her mouth next to his ear she murmured, “Hola, guapo.”
It took a moment for Harry to respond, but when he finally spoke, Ginny could hear the smile in his voice. “Are you flirting with me, señora Potter?”
“Sí, eres muy caliente.”
At the speed of lightning, Harry took off his hat and kissed her. “Te amo, mi amor.”

Verifying a list of “hateful feminist quotes”. (From F to M)
Continuing my checking of whether these quotes are actually hateful opinions of feminists (instead of, say, non-hateful opinions, or opinions we can’t know where they came from, or fictional opinions made by fictional characters...) or not.
"I was, in reality, bred by my parents as my father's concubine... What we take for granted as the stability of family life may well depend on the sexual slavery of our children. What's more, this is a cynical arrangement our institutions have colluded to conceal.".
Sylvia Fraser Journalist
Unverifiable. Once again, the only places where this quote is cited is from this same copy-pasted “hateful feminist quotes” list, which I’ve shown (and will keep showing) over and over to be fucking dishonest, to say the least. By this point, NOBODY would give it the benefit of the doubt.
"All men are rapists and that's all they are"
Marilyn French, Authoress; later, advisoress to Al Gore's Presidential Campaign.
Fictional - it comes from "The Women’s Room" (1977). Specifically, Val (one of the fictional characters in the book) says it right after her daughter has been raped.
"All patriarchists exalt the home and family as sacred, demanding it remain inviolate from prying eyes. Men want privacy for their violations of women... All women learn in childhood that women as a sex are men's prey."
Marilyn French, The Women's Room, Summit Books, 1977
True, but not hateful (and not from "The Women's Room"). It's definitely a denunciation of the rigid gender roles that put the man as the family’s head, and the woman as the servant who has to serve the man - even sexually. Notice how she talks about “patriarchists”? Yeah, those are the people who want to enforce those gender roles.
"The media treat male assaults on women like rape, beating, and murder of wives and female lovers, or male incest with children, as individual aberrations...obscuring the fact that all male violence toward women is part of a concerted campaign."
Marilyn French, The Women's Room, Summit Books, 1977
True, but not hateful (and not from "The Women's Room"). She was talking about rape culture, or one aspect of it - specifically: the refusal to see violence against women as a systemic issue. It’s easier to blame social problems on single deranged individuals (which are “not me”) rather than admit that they’re social problems (and thus “also me”); but it doesn’t solve those problems. This is what French was denouncing.
"My feelings about men are the result of my experience. I have little sympathy for them. Like a Jew just released from Dachau, I watch the handsome young Nazi soldier fall writhing to the ground with a bullet in his stomach and I look briefly and walk on. I don't even need to shrug. I simply don't care. What he was, as a person, I mean, what his shames and yearnings were, simply don't matter."
Marilyn French, Author "The Women's Room"
Again: fictional. "The Women's Room" is a fictional book.
“As long as some men use physical force to subjugate females, all men need not. The knowledge that some men do suffices to threaten all women. He can beat or kill the woman he claims to love; he can rape women…he can sexually molest his daughters… THE VAST MAJORITY OF MEN IN THE WORLD DO ONE OR MORE OF THE ABOVE.”
- Marilyn French
True, but not hateful; it has been massively (I suspect deliberately) edited. Here's the full quote, with the parts that anti-feminists chopped away in bold:
"As long as some men use physical force to subjugate females, all men need not. The knowledge that some men do suffices to threaten all women. Beyond that, it is not necessary to beat up a woman to bear her down. A man can simply refuse to hire women in well-paid jobs, extract as much or more work from women than men but pay them less, or treat women disrespectfully at work or at home. He can fail to support a child he has engendered, demand the woman he lives with wait on him like a servant. He can beat or kill the woman he claims to love; he can rape women, whether mate, acquaintance, or stranger; he can rape or sexually molest his daughters, nieces, stepchildren, or the children of a woman he claims to love. THE VAST MAJORITY OF MEN IN THE WORLD DO ONE OR MORE OF THE ABOVE."
So, yeah. Anti-feminists forgot to include job discrimination, general disrespect, and treating your wife like a servant to the list; with their omission, they try to make French appear as if she was saying "most men are rapists, murderers, or beaters of women". Pretty fucking dishonest, to say the least.
"My own informal survey of adult women suggests that very few reach the age of twenty-one without suffering some form of male predation--incest, molestation, rape or attempted rape, beatings, and sometimes torture or imprisonment."
Marilyn French, The War Against Women, Ballantine Books, 1992, p. 195)
Unverifiable and not hateful. Given the massive bullshit that happened with the previous quote, I now suspect that anti-feminists attempted the same trick here - cutting away stuff like job discrimination/general disrespect/being treated like a servant.
"The proportion of men must be reduced to and maintained at approximately 10% of the human race."
Sally Miller Gearhart, in The Future - If There Is One - Is Female.
Huh, look at that: a true and actually hateful quote. Good job. Have a cookie.
"[Men are] freaks of nature... full of queer obsessions about fetishistic activities and fantasy goals."
Germaine Greer, The Whole Woman, Knopf, 1999
Unverifiable. While various sources report the quote to try and attack Greer, I cannot find any part of the quote in the "The Whole Woman" ebook. Maybe there is, and I just cannot see it because it's just a preview, but I'm very doubtful.
"If women are to effect a significant amelioration in their condition it seems obvious that they must refuse to marry."
Germaine Greer, The Female Eunuch, McGraw-Hill, 1971, p. 317)
Unverifiable - same as the above - and probably not hateful, given that this is, once again, about forcing women into heteronormative gender roles and marriages. Maybe the quote really exists in the "The Female Eunuch" ebook; but I can't find it.
"...men bash women because they enjoy it; they torture women as they might torture an animal or pull the wings off flies."
Germaine Greer, The Whole Woman, Knopf, 1999
Unverifiable - see the previous. However, there are a few quotes where Greer points out that some men torture women, and very probably enjoyed doing so.
"The man regards (woman) as a receptacle into which he has emptied his sperm, a kind of human spittoon."
Germaine Greer, The Female Eunuch, McGraw-Hill, 1971)
Once again: unverifiable. But it looks like Greer here is talking about the attitude of many men at the time.
"Probably the only place where a man can feel really secure is in a maximum security prison, except for the imminent threat of release."
Germaine Greer
True, but not hateful. Here's the original quote from 1970 (again, the bolded part is the one that anti-feminists cut out):
"Probably the only place where a man can feel really secure is in a maximum security prison, except for the imminent threat of release. The problem of recidivism ought to have shown young men like John Greenaway just what sort of a notion security is, but there is no indication that he would understand it. Security is when everything is settled, when nothing can happen to you; security is the denial of life. Human beings are better equipped to cope with disaster and hardship than they are with unvarying security, but as long as security is the highest value in a community they can have little opportunity to decide this for themselves."
This isn’t about whether men should be all thrown in prison or not. This is about how putting “security” above everything else means stripping any choice from your life - which would make it so that it couldn’t even be called “life” at all.
In an interview Germaine Greer (radical feminist, writer) was asked the question, "You were once quoted as saying your idea of the ideal man is a woman with a dick. Are you still that way inclined?" Greer first denied that she had said it, and then replied, "I have a great deal of difficulty with the idea of the ideal man. As far as I'm concerned, men are the product of a damaged gene. They pretend to be normal but what they're doing sitting there with benign smiles on their faces is they're manufacturing sperm. They do it all the time. They never stop. I mean, we women are more reasonable. We pop one follicle every 28 days, whereas they are producing 400 million sperm for each ejaculation, most of which don't take place anywhere near an ovum. I don't know that the ecosphere can tolerate it."
Germaine Greer At a Hilton Hotel literary lunch, promoting her book, The Change-Women, Aging and the Menopause, Knopf, 1992 from a news report dated 11/14/91)
Unverifiable. It should say “SUPPOSEDLY from a newsreport THAT NOBODY SEEMS TO BE ABLE TO FIND”. So, yet another unsourced quote.
Oh, and the “My ideal man is a woman with a dick” quote? ALSO unsourced.
"The nuclear family must be destroyed, and people must find better ways of living together…. Whatever its ultimate meaning, the breakup of families now is an objectively revolutionary process…. No woman should have to deny herself any opportunities because of her special responsibilities to her children…."
Linda Gordon in "Functions of the Family," WOMEN: A Journal of Liberation, Fall, 1969
True - this quote is actually a really existing quote. It’s also distinctly non-hateful of men. It’s distinctly angry at the social imposition of marriage and the nuclear family system, though - but remember: the wife was supposed to stay at home and obey her husband in everything, back in 1969.
"And if the professional rapist is to be separated from the average dominant heterosexual (male), it may be mainly a quantitative difference."
Susan Griffin
True, but not hateful. I’ve managed to track the quote. And guess what? It was a talk about how the social expectations of the time (this part was written in 1971) expected the woman to turn down sexual advances even if she desired them, because it was considered “unchaste” for a woman to desire sex; and expected the man to wear down the woman’s “reserves”, without checking whether the woman in question actually wanted the sex, or not. It the same part, Griffin explains how, *with this social system* (that she did NOT create, nor is she advocating for) the difference between “a man who wear down a woman’s reservations” and “a rapist” is simply in how much pressure they use to make the woman have sex with them.
“We live in a culture that condones and celebrates rape. Within a phallocentric, patriarchal state the rape of women by men is a ritual that daily perpetuates and maintains sexist oppression and exploitation. We cannot hope to transform “rape culture” without committing ourselves fully to resisting and eradicating patriarchy.”
–Bell Hooks, “Seduced by Violence No More,” in Stan, Adele ed. Debating Sexual Correctness (New York, 1995)
True, but not hateful. The book is specifically talking about rape culture - aka a culture that, even if it claims that rape is wrong, in practice it fails to adequately deal with rape, instead blaming women for getting raped. This, in turn, allows sexist men to oppress women with next to no consequences.
"When a woman reaches orgasm with a man she is only collaborating with the patriarchal system, eroticizing her own oppression..."
Sheila Jeffreys
Unverifiable. HOORAAY!
“In order to raise children with equality, we must take them away from families and communally raise them”
(Dr. Mary Jo Bane, feminist and assistant professor of education at Wellesley College, and associate director of the school’s Center for Research on Woman).
Unverifiable, and probably not hateful. For starters, the source for this quote is Lew Rockwell, which is an INCREDIBLY far-right-biased source.
For another, the quote sounds like part of an argument in favor of the communal parenting, which is an argument that has been pretty explored. Also, note how she refers to communal parenting - not to women-only parenting.
"I believe that women have a capacity for understanding and compassion which a man structurally does not have. He does not have it not because he cannot have it. He's just incapable of it."
Former US Congresswoman Barbara Jordan
Huh, look at that. This quote (it’s reported in a 1992 issue of Texas Monthly, but the actual quote doesn’t have a date) is actually true, and does sound hateful. Can someone check out the score? Because, at the time of this writing, I checked 42 quotes, only 2 (possibly 3) of which were verified to be true and actually hateful.
"Marriage has existed for the benefit of men and has been a legally sanctioned method of control over women.... Male society has sold us the idea of marriage.... Now we know it is the institution that has failed us and we must work to destroy it.... The end of the institution of marriage is a necessary condition for the liberation of women. Therefore, it is important for us to encourage women to leave their husbands and not to live individually with men."
Nancy Lehmann, Helen Sullinger, Declaration of Feminism, 1971
Unverifiable. Apparently there is a book titled "The document: a declaration of feminism" published in 1971; but there's no way to verify if that quote actually exists. And the link I provided is basically the only source of that book's existance - outside of the edited quote above, which is present only in anti-feminist websites.
There is also the "Declaration of the Rights of Woman and the Female Citizen", written by Olympe de Gouges in 1791. Coincidence? I have no idea. Maybe it is.
"Man-hating is everywhere, but everywhere it is twisted and transformed, disguised, tranquilized, and qualified. It coexists, never peacefully, with the love, desire, respect, and need women also feel for men. Always man-hating is shadowed by its milder, more diplomatic and doubtful twin, ambivalence."
Judith Levine
Maybe true, but there is no context. I can’t make heads or tails of what it actually means. It’s the same case as some of the Dworkin quotes - no indication of the work or the context it was taken from.
"I feel what they feel: man-hating, that volatile admixture of pity, contempt, disgust, envy, alienation, fear, and rage at men. It is hatred not only for the anonymous man who makes sucking noises on the street, not only for the rapist or the judge who acquits him, but for what the Greeks called philo-aphilos, 'hate in love,' for the men women share their lives with--husbands, lovers, friends, fathers, brothers, sons, coworkers."
Judith Levine, My Enemy, My love
Unverifiable. The only sources talking about this quote are anti-feminist ones.
"There are no boundaries between affectionate sex and slavery in (the male) world. Distinctions between pleasure and danger are academic; the dirty-laundrylist of 'sex acts'...includes rape, foot binding, fellatio, intercourse, auto eroticism, incest, anal intercourse, use and production of pornography, cunnilingus, sexual harassment, and murder."
Judith Levine; summarizing comment on the WAS document, (A southern Women's Writing Collective: Women Against Sex.)
The quote itself is unverifiable and not hateful, given that all of those acts have been (1) used by men against women, and (2) justified as “normal” sexuality by those same men.
However, the bit where the anti-feminist author of this list talks about “Women Against Sex” is false: the real title of the document Levine was talking about was "Sex resistance in heterosexual arrangements: Manifesto of the Southern Women’s Writing Collective". Because making up a false title to demonize feminists is acceptable behavior, am I right, anti-feminists? (# sarcasm)
"Men's sexuality is mean and violent, and men so powerful that they can 'reach WITHIN women to fuck/construct us from the inside out.' Satan-like, men possess women, making their wicked fantasies and desires women's own. A woman who has sex with a man, therefore, does so against her will, 'even if she does not feel forced."
Judith Levine
Slightly unverifiable - I can’t find neither a scan, nor the citation for the full Levine quote. What I did find was the book Levine was looking at - My Enemy, My Love (1993), a book that talks about “gender roles, the social definitions of masculinity and femininity, the culture’s assignment of certain exclusive traits to each biological sex, [which] have imprisoned us on either side of a divide”. Also: no mention about whether the women interviewed by Levine were feminists or not, and in particular, no mention of the context for the quote.
"All sex, even consensual sex between a married couple, is an act of violence perpetrated against a woman."
Catherine MacKinnon
False. The quote apparently comes from Playboy, Oct 1986; but it wasn’t written by MacKinnon, nor anyone was able to track the instance where she supposedly originally said/wrote that.
"You grow up with your father holding you down and covering your mouth so another man can make a horrible searing pain between your legs."
Catherine MacKinnon, Feminism Unmodified: Discourses of Life and Law – Sex and Violence: A Perspective, Harvard University Press, 1987
True, but out of context. From what I can understand, this is from yet another discussion about non-con pornography (“Only Words”, 1993); MacKinon wasn't talking about families in general.
What's with anti-feminists taking discussions about problematic and sexist porn and deciding that feminists were talking about everyday life? What, do anti-feminist believe that pornography is an accurate representation of real li-
Nevermind, let's move on...
"Feminism, Socialism, and Communism are one in the same, and Socialist/Communist government is the goal of feminism."
Catherine MacKinnon" Toward a Feminist Theory of the State (First Harvard University Press, 1989), p.10
False. The quote is completely absent from MacKinnon's book, or any of her books. Apparently, this is a slightly modified quote from "The Unhappy Marriage of Marxism and Feminism".
"In a patriarchal society, all heterosexual intercourse is rape because women, as a group, are not strong enough to give meaningful consent."
Catherine MacKinnon
Misattributed. The quote itself comes from "Professing Feminism", which wasn't written by MacKinnon, but by Daphne Patai and Noretta Koertge; they were talking about MacKinnon and Dworkin's opinions - they weren't quoting them. (And no, neither Dworkin nor MacKinnon believed that intercourse is rape.). The misattribution was caused by right-wing columnist Cal Thomas, who wrote an article about "Professing Feminism" and mistakenly attributed that quote to MacKinnon.
“The care of children ..is infinitely better left to the best trained practitioners of both sexes who have chosen it as a vocation…[This] would further undermine family structure while contributing to the freedom of women.”
–Kate Millet, Sexual Politics 178-179
Misattributed. Here, Millet isn't talking about his own beliefs; he's talking about Engels's. Specifically, he's talking about how the idea that "The woman is naturally the one best equipped to raise a child" has the effects of:
Put a limitation on the woman, but not the man. If the woman wants to, say, pursue a career, she's forced to deal with child-raising AND with pursuing the career; the man has to deal only with the latter, because society pressures the woman into doing the former.
It's inefficient, because you just decide that the woman is the one most capable of raising a kid, instead of looking at which person is the most capable.
"We can't destroy the inequities between men and women until we destroy marriage."
Robin Morgan.-From Sisterhood Is Powerful, (ed), 1970, p. 537
True, but not hateful. Again: “marriage” presupposed that the woman stayed at home and obeyed her husband in everything. I fail to see how being against the imposition of this kind of marriage/gender roles is hateful.
"I feel that 'man-hating' is an honourable and viable political act, that the oppressed have a right to class-hatred against the class that is oppressing them."
Robin Morgan.-former president of the National Organization for Women (NOW) and editor of MS magazine
True (1973). I also fail to see what’s wrong with “class-hatred”, aka being justifiably angry with the oppressing class while fighting against its privileges. I mean, I do understand that nobody shouldn’t oppress anyone else even if they were oppressed beforehand, but here we’re talking about expressing justified anger against an oppressive system, and wanting to dismantle it. What, is that illegal now?
"I claim that rape exists any time sexual intercourse occurs when it has not been initiated by the woman, out of her own genuine affection and desire."
Robin Morgan.
True, but not hateful. I fail to see where’s the problem with this quote. It’s basically the concept of “yes means yes” - you don’t have sex with anyone unless they want it. ...Oh, wait, now I see why anti-feminists have a problem with this quote.
"And let's put one lie to rest for all time: the lie that men are oppressed, too, by sexism--the lie that there can be such a thing as 'men's liberation groups.' Oppression is something that one group of people commits against another group, specifically because of a 'threatening' characteristic shared by the latter group--skin, color, sex or age, etc. The oppressors are indeed FUCKED UP by being masters, but those masters are not OPPRESSED. Any master has the alternative of divesting himself of sexism or racism--the oppressed have no alternative--for they have no power but to fight. In the long run, Women's Liberation will of course free men--but in the short run it's going to cost men a lot of privilege, which no one gives up willingly or easily. Sexism is NOT the fault of women--kill your fathers, not your mothers".
Robin Morgan.
True (1970), but not hateful. This shows a big miscommunication problem between MRAs and feminists. See, many feminists define sexism not as “acts of individual discrimination against a gender”, but as “an oppressive social system where one gender is treated as inferior”. By that logic, what MRAs claim is “sexism against men”, feminists call it "discrimination against men", but not "sexism against men", because women did NOT create this system where masculinity is put on a (very narrow) pedestal and femininity is derided. As Morgan put it:
"The oppressors are indeed FUCKED UP by being masters, but those masters are not OPPRESSED. Any master has the alternative of divesting himself of sexism or racism—the oppressed have no alternative—for they have no power but to fight. In the long run, Women’s Liberation will of course free men—but in the short run it’s going to cost men a lot of privilege, which no one gives up willingly or easily."
You can’t compare the situation of an oppressed class (who has to tear down the system biased against it) with that of the privileged class (who actually made the biased system in the first place and could fix it). And what Morgan is saying is correct. Systematic oppression divide society in a privileged group (which has a certain amounts of benefits that the oppressed do not have, and/or is exempt from various disadvantages that instead the oppressed do face) and an oppressed one. Dismantling such a system DOES damage the privileged group, because it takes away their privileges - privileges that they shouldn't have in the first place, and that are based on the oppression of marginalized groups.
“My white skin disgusts me. My passport disgusts me. They are the marks of an insufferable privilege bought at the price of others’ agony.”
-Robin Morgan
Not hateful. From the looks of it, here Morgan is talking about the effects of white colonialism and racism - specifically how they benefit white or white-passing people such as her. For example: being allowed to travel or emigrate wherever you want and be treated as a person, while non-white immigrants are by default believed to be violent criminals, murderers, and rapists.

Second chance (Siris Black x reader)
Request: Your last imagine was great! I wanted to know if you could write an imagine set in the order of the phoenix were the reader is an auror and she was one the few people that believed sirius was innocent (most people thought it was because they dated in highschool) and when the kids go to the ministry instead sirius dying it’s bellatrix instead? And when sirius comes back that when he decides to marry her? (if possible with young sirius instead of gary oldman thank you!) A/N: ... *throws this out of the virtual grave and goes off to take a nap*
Sirius Black was many things: troublemaker, obnoxious, frustratingly immature, unwaveringly loyal to his friends, a cheater to his lovers. He was not a murderer.
Some could say you believed this because you dated him, dated him for a respectable amount of time (an uncharacteristic feat for Black). Granted you were kids, still in your sixth year at Hogwarts and emotionally floundering. And yet.. five months and three weeks were not a fling. And even now you looked back on the relationship with fondness, despite Sirius dumping you for a bustier Ravenclaw.
They lasted three weeks, by the way, the average life span of a relationship with the infamous Sirius.
...Some could say you were still a little bitter about it, not that you would give anyone the chance to...
But anyway, you mourned the lost potential for that relationship and moved on. You assumed that any connection you had to Sirius Black had been stuck in Hogwarts.
Meanwhile, life always seems to have other ideas than what we plan.
"Come now, you look like you've seen a murderer," Sirius teased with a low rasp in his voice as he took another long swig of his drink.
His chair teetered dangerously as he leaned back with arrogant nonchalance. It was signature Black, though you couldn't stop noticing the plaguing shadows under his eyes.
You had heard The Order had a new safe house that would be used as the primary base, you barely registered the news until someone had mentioned to you that the clubhouse belonged to Sirius’ parents. When you had asked why we got to utilize the house now...
Well, it took you less than 2 minutes to apparate a block away from 10 and 14 Grimmauld. It took you less than 13 minutes to decide to walk inside.
And now you were standing in front of Sirius Black in the same home he used to be desperate to run away...
You swallowed, surprised at how tight your throat was. Consciously you relaxed your muscles, forcing yourself to walk closer to the table. You refused to show hesitation as you spoke, "The only way you could kill a person is by cooking them dinner."
Sirius fell forward, slamming the front chair legs on the floor as he laughed good and loud. His whole expression seemed to color a shade more human. “Good ole, (Y/N).” He grinned, “You haven’t changed a bit.”
Suddenly his eyes flashed in wonderment at you. Your chest ached briefly. How much did the dementors take from him? His voice was confident, “Remember that party after I won the House Cup?”
You scoffed instantly, “I believe it was Potter who made the winning shot.”
A distinct glimmer was in his eyes as he stretched his arms to rest his hands on the back of his head. “Only because I managed to get the path clear for him,” he reasoned. Classic arrogant, balloon-brained nut. Your smile grew wider.
“By trying to turn the beater bats into snakes?” You inquired, fondly remembering the faces of both Slytherin beaters.
The cheering swarm was heading back to Gryffindor tower, you followed them up near the tail end when a distressed cry turned your head. The Slytherin beaters had just dropped two curling snakes and you knew just who was responsible for it... There were actual tears in your eyes as you laughed so hard, trying to walk up the hill when out of nowhere Sirius managed to sidle up next to you. Suddenly his voice was in your ear, “See? I paid attention in Transfiguration.” Your cheeks burned at the heat of his breath against your ear.
Before you, Sirius outright beamed. “Hey, at least I didn’t do it during the game, as you know.”
Your eyebrows furrowed a bit, your smile a bit confused. “Yes, because I watched the game,” You explained plainly.
Somehow he grinned even wider. Your eyebrows narrowed.
“What?” You almost had to restrain your outcry.
“You don’t even like Quidditch games.”
Your eyes widened in realization, his eyes closed in cool triumph.
“I-It was an important game!”
“And yet you’ve gone to every game before that.”
Your cheeks flared. The arrogant buffoon was right again. Damn him. “Now you’re criticizing me for going to social events?”
His smile was devious and crooked, “And I quote, 'There are more useful things to spend time on than chasing a ball on a broom.’”
Oh. You did say that to Sirius, in your sixth year, which he surprisingly answered with a pause before laughing it off and pulling you in for a kiss. Well-
Sirius grinned wider. ...Screw him.
“I never said that,” You crossed your arms and shifted away from him slightly.
He stood up. You refused to watch him, instead opting to listen for the creak of the wooden chair being pushed back, the shifting of his clothes as he neared you. You prepared a pointed look and aimed it right at him.
He was closer than you anticipated and you shivered, entirely still as he stared deep into your eyes. Suddenly he exhaled, beaming, “It’s really good to see you.” He said it with a tenderness you didn’t know he had, a tenderness he probably didn’t have... couldn’t have before...
Your eyes softened, taking in all of him. It was like walking into a ghost story, and that didn’t just refer to the banshee screams from Sirius’ dear mother either... Seeing Sirius was quite literally unbelievable, but then again Sirius was usually unbelievable.
“You-” You whacked Sirius again! “-are-” Whack! “-bloody unbelievable!”
“Ow! Geez, woman!” Sirius flinched as your fists bellowed against his arms, his chest. He ducked his head, crying out, “Not the hair!”
“Who would’ve taken care of Harry if something were to happen to you!!” You yelled.
You were quite oblivious to the small auditorium of colleagues and Hogwarts students gathered to hear you chew out Sirius Black. The looming Veil stood just a few feet away from your argument, and it took just a perfectly timed glance at Sirius to notice that Bellatrix would’ve collided him through the gate had you not hit him with a jinx that knocked him out of death’s hands...or curtain or whatever.
Still! Seconds from death and he still had the cheek to annoy you!
“You would be an excellent godmother,” He offered weakly with an amused smile. Your eyebrow twitched from glaring so profusely. “I’m sorry,” He said, despite the smile tugging at his lips.
“No, you’re not.” You spat at him, pacing a bit in one direction. “You’re reliving your glory days and frolicking in it while Harry has to worry about your soul being sucked through the Veil-What in the witch’s cauldron are you smiling about?!”
Of all moments, Sirius finally kept his stupid, smiling trap shut. He gently walked towards you, his voice in a reasonable tone saying, “I really shouldn’t make Harry worry.”
Your cheeks burned as you agreed, “Q-quite right. He needs a responsible role model to look up to.” As Black neared you found yourself leaning away, his presence overwhelming your flow of breathing, igniting every goose bump on your skin. You struggled to stop fidgeting and look him straight in that magnetic gaze.
“I couldn’t agree more,” He said just above a whisper. “You know,” he began as he leaned his nose in so it barely brushed yours, “I really do think you’d be an excellent godmother.”
As a school girl, you often daydreamed about the day when Sirius Black would want to settle down. You imagined it so differently than right now if that moment was happening-
And now Sirius was taking your hand and bringing the knuckles to his lips so softly you couldn’t speak even if you tried.
You watched his Adam's apple as he gulped, surprised to hear his hesitating, “So, how about it?”
“How about what?” You echoed gently.
“Marrying me.”
“Oh?”
“Yeah,” he exhaled a laugh, bringing his forehead to yours. “It was only ever you, (Y/N).”
You leaned back a touch as his nose grazed yours, causing you both to still. “Then,” you began, “why did you let me go?”
“Because I’m a moron.” His hands ran up to your shoulders, squeezing them. “James knew how I felt, even if I was too much of an idiot to accept it. I-I thought I could convince myself it wasn’t-isn’t real. As you can see, I failed quite miserably.”
“Quite stupendously,” you agreed in a far off voice. You were focusing on the glow of an almost pale blue in his piercing gray eyes.
“Someone is enjoying this too much.” He pressed his chest against yours and a smile curled on your lips as his grazed passed your cheek.
“Yes.” You agreed, a light suddenly glowing within you. You pulled your head back and stared into his eyes. The question was already in his eyes. “Yes,” you answered me. “I’ll marry you.”
An excited cry left your throat as Sirius picked you up and spun you around. You laughed as he finally set you down.
“You know what this means right?” He spoke with an almost wild ecstacy.
“What?” You mused, your eyes closed and feeling him wrap his arms around your waist.
“We get to invite that git Prescott Thompson who took you to the Yule Ball, that slimy-” Whack!
“Sirius,” You grabbed his collar and forced him to your level. “Do not ruin your proposal or it won’t be your last.”
Even as you threatened him, he didn’t even hesitate as a dopey grin spread across his features. “I love you.”

Satan goes to the store
Word count: 1815
There are a lot of odd things that go on in the parking lot of the average Walmart. Over there, in the back corner, you can see a couple of teenagers. Look at them, all greasy, their faces covered in the red blemishes of puberty. One of them is counting cash- he thinks he’s being surreptitious, but in reality, the way he glances around, his floppy hair flopping with every motion of his head like a black and red streaked flag, is a beacon to any cop that might be sitting around that something shady is about to go down. Oh, look! There’s the cop now! He’s sitting a few parking spots away, noshing on a pastry he’d just bought, eyeballing the woman walking by with a look of disdain. And no wonder- she’s walking down the parking lot, enormous hips swaying in the tight yoga pants she has pulled up to just under her sagging bosom. She wears no bra- her nipples are currently fighting a winning battle to bust through the transparent fabric of the wife-beater she wears with the pride of a queen.
Although, the cop can’t really judge her, considering that he’s missed the drug deal that just transpired in front of him. Perhaps he’ll notice when one of the boys pulls a badly wrapped joint out of the paper bag? No, he doesn’t notice.
His attention, however, is turned to the sleek black car that speeds down the row of the lot. It’s a beautiful car, something old and yet well cared for, with a trunk large enough to fit a dead body in. There is no exhaust, no purr of engine. It speeds, and yet it is silent. Odd, I’m sure, but, like I said, a lot of shit goes down in a Walmart parking lot.
The cop considers flagging the car down, but there’s a dark feeling in the pit of his stomach, an ancestral fear that borders on genetic, it’s so old. Who is he to flag down such a glorious car? Who is he to stop the king of the road, the lord of the highway, the sultan of the interstate?
The black car slows, and pulls into a handicap spot.
What a scumbag, honestly. There is no handicap tag hanging in the windshield. I hope the cop works up the courage to go and ticket that asshole with the silent cool old car.
The door of the car opens, and out steps a man.
Well- I think he’s a man. He’s certainly man shaped- what a man, oh, what a man. His shoulders are rounded with deltoids of the gods; his white button-down clings to his pectorals. His waist is as slim as a woman’s, no doubt with more abs than Captain America himself, and his face- his face looks as though it was carved by God himself, with perfect cheekbones and a strong chin and lips that could only be described as soft, yet firm, kissable, and yet untouchable.
His eyes though- how can I describe those eyes? They are like…
No. I must refrain.
The scumbag parked in the handicap, remember. He is, somewhere beneath those muscles that any sane girl would love to run her hands slowly over as they glisten with sweat, the hole of an ass.
He reaches into the pockets of his jeans, which cling to his perfectly formed gluteus, and pulls out a crumpled piece of paper. Let’s zoom in a bit to see what it says-
No, too close. Don’t let me get distracted by the perfume of sweetly burning incense that hangs around him like a fog of heavenly breath.
Too far, now I can’t see the paper.
There we go. Now let’s read together.
Eggs. Bread. Headphones. Pencil sharpener. Pens. Party lights. Chips. Salsa. Guac. Greeting cards. Knife sharpener. Stain remover. Nail clippers. Eyeliner. Toothbrush/toothpaste. Hair gel.
Wow, that’s a solid list. Let’s watch him try to find all the items. After all, there’s nothing more fun than watching a sexy beast of a man try to traverse through your average Walmart.
The greeter is an elderly woman who looks like she would be better off using the parking lot he stole. “Hi, how’s it going? Can we help you find anything?”
He ignores her and attempts to walk past. He’s not a very nice person, as we’ve already established. Perhaps this would change if he were to meet a nice girl, in her early twenties, who works hard in college and enjoys writing on the side. But, alas, that is not to be.
The greeter follows him. Her hair is like a wild white mane; her face is too wrinkled to even discern where her eyes once were. “Sir, it’s a beautiful day out! Let one of our friendly staff members help you find-”
“I know where everything is!” He whips around, and there’s fire in his eyes. Literal fire in his eyes… hmmm, that’s odd, wouldn’t you say? Now that I think of it, are there horns curling from between his luscious locks of thick black hair? Weird… but weird stuff happens at Walmart, so who are we to judge?
“Okay then.” The old woman raises her hands innocently, but there’s a sassiness to the flick of her wrists that belies her enormous age. “Just trying to help. You didn’t need to go all crazy on me, but who am I to try to do my job?”
“Who are any of us to do our damn jobs?” He mutters to himself, stalking towards the toiletries section.
What an odd thing to say? Would it seem that the hunky piece of man candy is not satisfied in his current career path? Let’s zoom in closer and see what else we can glean from his errand.
He’s standing in front of the tooth paste selection now. Apparently he can’t decide which one to choose. That’s an understandable conundrum- there’s so many! You can have whitening toothpaste, non-whitening tooth paste, toothpaste for sensitive teeth, generic toothpaste, toothpaste with baking powder, sensitive and whitening toothpaste…
He settles for regular Crest toothpaste. A solid choice sir- I applaud you! And then he moves to the toothbrushes. This time, he doesn’t spend that much time, and simply grabs a package of four cheap ones. That’s also a good choice. I, personally, don’t see much difference between toothbrushes, but I know some people care a great amount.
Now he checks his list and sighs, heading across the store to the food aisle. He takes a little detour though, jogging his path to cut through the makeup aisle, thereby avoiding the greeter. Hey, remember you need to buy eyeliner, you beautiful douchebag!
Nope. He forgot. He’ll have to make another detour.
He pauses to pick up a basket on his way to the bread, hanging it off his lean forearm so he can carry more items at once. Clever boy!
There’s a woman already at the bread. Hey, it’s the woman from earlier- remember her? Her nipples are like a second pair of eyeballs pressed against the fabric of her shirt. She studies the bread, picking up every loaf and reading the labels carefully, like getting the wrong loaf might make her blow up.
Our anti-hero walks up to the bread, his triangle-tipped tail flicking in irritation at being there. Did you see the tail before? I didn’t, but I was distracted by his pecs. I know, I know. It’s a weakness. But I’m a reliable narrator. I swear.
It’s a nice tail. It’s all feathered, with a sleek black that match his wings-
SHIT! I forgot to tell you this guy has wings too!
I’m just failing you here. I’m sorry. I’ll do better from here on out. Really, it’s just such an odd thing to see, even in such a place as Walmart.
He reaches around the woman for a loaf of whole wheat bread, and she turns so suddenly that her bosoms are set a-swinging. One enormous breast hits the end of its swing, bounces back, and smacks our hero right in his perfectly sculpted arm.
He freezes, and is that- it is! His cheeks, pale and white as a corpse in a coffin, pink a little, like the setting sun tinting the sky with rose, when he feels the nipple touch the bare flesh exposed by his folded sleeve.
“Excuse you?” The woman puts her hands on her hips, drawing herself up to her full height, which, to be frank, isn’t that impressive. “I was over here, trying to shop, and you just shove on through?”
He takes a half step back, taken by surprise, no doubt, by the suddenly irate woman.
“The nerve of people! You think that just because you’re a man, you can have whatever you want? Well fuck you!"
Now he’s had a moment to regroup. The blush vanishes and his feathers fluff up dramatically. “Do you dare berate me, woman? Be gone, foul slut! Take your admonishments elsewhere!”
“Are you yelling at me now?” She crosses her arms now, sticking her hip out like she’d seen somebody trendy do on the TV. “How dare you. How dare you? You think you can just come into my store and yell at me when I have just as much a right to shop here as you? Fuck you! Fuck you and fuck your life!”
“I want to buy a loaf of bread!” His eyes flared, and the woman suddenly gasped, bug eyed, clutching at her throat. “I came here to buy a loaf of bread, and-”
“Hey, uh, Satan?”
What’s this? Another person has entered the scene. He’s not a large man, and he looks a bit awkward interrupting the encounter that has been going down. Our delicious scumbag pauses, hand raised in the air, feathers fluffed in fight mode, and looks down at the newcomer, who happens to be wearing Walmart blue.
“What do you want?” His voice is a low growl, a sneer in vocal form.
“I’m gonna have to ask you to leave, man. You can’t choke out any of our customers again.”
“She yelled at me!”
“I know she yelled at you, bud, but sometimes you just gotta take the hit and keep moving.” The employee points. “You can come back tomorrow.”
Satan glares at him, and then glares at the woman, who is floating about four feet above the ground and gasping as her cheeks turn blue.
“Drop her, Satan.”
Still, he hesitates, as the woman clutches at her neck.
“Satan.”
Finally, he drops her. She falls to the floor, gasping, and then gets up. “You think you can just choke me? You pervert, I’ll have you know-”
But what she’ll have Satan know, he’ll never know, because he’s gone, leaving only the lingering stench of brimstone behind. Oh, unhappy day. I shall never see such beautiful musculature again.

Disclaimer…RANT!!!
Complaining about my country is not exactly the most pleasant activity I partake in, I prefer watching cartoons and sleeping but due to tension, immorality and several other sordid issues at their peak with contributions from various angles, I thought we could join the conversation.
I’m pretty sure everyone knows how much I love ranting, today is not any different so bear with me. Today’s rant would come from different sections, but all pointing towards one subject, which is HYPOCRISY. And after the investment of so much thought and anger, I’ve reached the conclusion that we’re all hypocrites. Yes, we; me, you, all of us.
That being said, let’s get this on…
So, Falz, the reputable Bahd Guy recently dropped a 9 track album which he rightly titled MORAL INSTRUCTIONS considering the extents to which moral decadence is addressed on the viral album. Sorry to send your hopes crashing but we won’t be discussing about anything on the album because for obvious reasons one blog post can’t effectively encompass the issues addressed on the album, what we would rather be talking about is what happened around the album, the reactions, the discuss, in summary, we would be talking about the pros and cons of the album, well, of course, excluding the political aspect that was already partialy addressed in the previous blog post.
Album’s Official Art
Track List
What is the difference between a thief and a ritualist? What is the difference between a drunk that abandons his family and middle-class woman beater? Is there any real difference between a prostitute and a cyber criminal? Why is the homosexual more of a sinner than a serial adulterer?
Ponder a bit and remember the time you justified the sin of another man while crucifying another , the time when you shifted the conversation from the rapist and asked questions like ” why was she wearing a short skirt?”.
To me, there’s no difference between types of sins. To you, there might be.
But if you agree that there are different types or categories of sins, then you are a selectively righteous person and I’m not sorry for saying it (sincerely).
They talk about me like they past perfect Like they present pretty, like they future flawless Like this world ain’t got drug addicts and alcoholics Rapists, robbers, dealers, murder, extortion Like me being gay is so f*cking important We all sinnin’ n***a, I don’t give a f*ck what you call it The only man that can judge me is the man above Too much hate y’all need to open up a can of love Why you mad man? Somebody give that man a hug
…Kween (Freestyle) by Young M.A
One boring afternoon of the previous week, on the street of Instagram, I stumbled upon a video, it was one of a guy talking about…guess, you are right, he was talking about Falz’s album, he was making inference about the aspect about Transactional sex and how it has grown to become a norm among young Nigerian girls, well, he made so much sense because I was able to watch till the end, I was impressed so I commented “kudos” and I thought I should read through the comment I stumbled upon a particular comment by a lady, let’s call her Miss Led, Miss Led’s comment had already amassed 180+ replies in just over 1 hour, I was curious, this was Miss Led’s comment;
Absolutely trash, I stopped watching when he said the most involved in transactional sex are girls, Sexist f*ck.
That leads us to our next section, Avoiding the Real, whether be it AVOIDING THE REAL TRUTH, AVOIDING THE REAL QUESTION, AVOIDING THE REAL SITUATION or basically AVOIDING REAL LIFE. Miss Led was quick to ignore the real situation and talk about something that over 90% of those that replied her comment agreed upon that girls are the major victims of transactional sex, she was quick to label the post sexist, basically she was misled.
In one way or the other many of us are exactly like Miss Led, we ignore the real issues and face less important issues probably in the hope that the issues ignored would somehow solve itself.
It affects our day-to-day living; I’ll rather clear my email than write a new story, I’ll rather scroll through Instagram than reply those important messages on Whatsapp; I’ll rather sleep than read. Many of us would pick the sexist comments than the call for a change of narrative, some would rather follow tradition than use their brains, some would rather talk than think, we would rather ignore than try to change.
So I put it to you, are you guilty, would you rather choose the relatively meaningless activities or work on making everything around you better.
If everyone around you is your friend, then you have a big problem –Anonymous
Some people have tailored themselves to be only capable of saying things to please other people, the truth, they believe, is irrelevant. Many of us say what people want to hear and not what we believe for several reasons, the most notable is the fear of how our message might be received, so we play safe and lie to impress.
I’m not saying make enemies, but we all know that unless I’m pretending, lying, cheating or being deceitful not many people would like me (it’s not like they do now, but who cares).
Believe me when I say this is one of the worst character flaws. Stay true to your truth and values.
He said we had to give them some change, I was amazed and asked why and he replied, “well, that is how it is“…Till this day, I would probably not understand why it is that way but what I have come to realize is how he wasn’t only the one who said it, everyone says it, even the average 8 years old who has been exposed to the working of the underground would blot out unrestrained “na so e bi oo” (that’s how it is) and it would make you wonder if we were born into a society where we just had to accept whatever was or was to be like it was etched in stone then plunged into Mariana’s trench so that no one would ever be able to rewrite it again. It’s like we are only puppets in the hands of a drunken puppeteer (a failed system) and like the novel puppets we dance to whatever tune given, but is it meant to be?
A police officer stopping a lawful commuter to demand money shouldn’t be labelled normal under whatsoever circumstances. An immigration officer demanding for money to offset missing or unavailable immigration documents should not be normal, no it shouldn’t, it should never be like that.
We should change the narrative and begin to refuse things that have been normalized if this country were to rise back to its position of grandeur.
The unfortunate thing is that even though some of us know this is the wrong way to live life, we still go with the flow. I believe that even if it’s just a small percentage of individuals that decided to be different, to be trustworthy, to be sincere, to be genuine, we can achieve a lot. Not just talking and ranting but acting.
Is it supposed to be? No! But that’s the reality.
It only becomes a reality when we choose to accept it…
So what are you picking?
One of our greatest problem is hypocricy, how do you think we can curb it?
Have a great week.
Soye.

Am I pessimistic or just real?
Most of the time I feel like I'm accidentally surviving my own life. Not to sound like I'm bitching, but I don't have any idea why I'm alive. I've been trying to keep my life simple, but found out that is a very complicated and arduous task. I, physically, am 30some years old, and deeply know my spirit or soul or life force or whatever you want to label it as is old as fuck. I'm a little odd, I've been told, but when you realize early in life that nobody anywhere knows what in the bluest bowels of Hell they are doing, you start making decisions that TRULY matter on a high, VERY HIGH, level of deep understanding. Not to sound like a preachy zealous god-freak, but preeeeetty fucking sure we live in and on the garden of eden as mentioned in that book written 2000ish years ago. You know the one, oh... it has that bearded guy in the middle east who was the Christian God's son, but was a Jewish king, a rabbi, a carpenter, and who led a gang of misfit trouble making hooligans that wanted to make life better for everyone and ended up dead and martyred for it and is currently the nearly-nude mascot for countless kitchens and bedrooms in thousands of American homes. Jesus, what is that guy's name.... anyways... that book. I'm not great with names, nor hiding sarcastic remarks or, OR blatant disregard for that which really does not matter.... uh, uh, uh, oh well. Back on topic now. Ready? On this "bestowed paradise" of Ours, there are a few shitty things that I just WILL NOT turn a blind eye to. I got this list, you see, that has the WORST possible inventions on it that the world could have done without. Number 1 is people... People are needy, greedy, dumb, panicky, self-centered, talking alien-ape hybrids that ruin and destroy almost every thing they put their grubby little peter-beaters on. We kill for thrill and pleasure alone or in packs and have this problem understanding what compassion and sharing equally are. I did two years of kindergarten, consecutively I will add, I know you are supposed to share and be nice or something like, oh I don't know, your behavior is checked, and you learn to play with others. And now number 2 (insert low-brow sophomoric butt-mud poop-shit-fart he he he coment here. I did, but think up your own.) my list. Borders. "We look different in skin color or you talk funny, uh oh, I no longer have trust other human being, stay away from my personal comfort zone. We'll be fair though and draw a line in the dirt in case you get the same vibe from me. Ok?" "Ok, good idea. Me and my family will kill you otherwise maybe, yeah, no, yeah. Stay away. Good job." Are you shitting literally me out of your dumb asses? Where is the logic and practicality in that. We let famine happen daily because, what? Noone knows what to do? Help your fucking human brothers and sisters, and the little ones if your heart has room, you apathy ridden bag of severed dicks. This is everyone's home right now, teach people who have no knowledge. There is no such thing as unteachable. Read between the lines here guys and dolls. Break time. Let me tell you that I'm not being a rude loud obnoxious Internet troll here, some of my rants and tangent ramblings have a twisted sense of humor and are meant to make you take a minute and chuckle at its finest absurdities. Oh my, but we can also be multitasking manimals and take some inventory of ourselves and the other manimals in our lives and have conversations with each other like we're meant to. Anyone over 27 will remember a time before everyone had a fucking idiot screen in their face at all times. (Heh, jokes to come.) What separated us from beasts is our ability to develope and utilize language. To any younger folks reading this: we used to sit at the same parties you all do now, and used our minds and speaking abilities to have a blast. I'm talking some wicked-awesome fucking ideas and fun times were had before the wedding of man and technology. Put the phone down, and step away from the screens. Please. Number thwee, sorry had, food in my...nevermind. money is next on my little list of things I see as wrong. If a person has a lot of money, they generally have a lot of stuff to make sure they're happy beyond worry. On the other end of the spectrum you have... anybody? Class! goddamn kids pay a-fucking-tention! You have a person with little to no money. I will spell this out for you and you know who: that person can't be happy beyond worry because, huh? Some people have been going ape shit on their own happy. Hmmm. Opposite of happy? Right, thanks Julien, smart guy you are, UNhappy. I hope I just made a Julien's mind blow apart. Lol. Now, monetary wealth is referred to as worth. If you gots like soooooo much worth like it's bananas and stuff, then your like totally worthwhile or worthy. Julien, let someone else try now, get your tongue out of my ass you brown-noser. If you ever want to be heart broken ask the poor kid at an elementary school how he feels after the first recess after Christmas break. I bet the word worthless crosses both your minds and you purse your lips and them real big empathy tears well up in your eyes. That kid is programed to think money and worth are the same thing, and will do what he or she can to make sure they ALWAYS HAVE money when they grow up otherwise everyone else will know they are worthless. Made myself cry a little bit there. Guns guns guns are 4 on this list which may make you laugh or at best pissed. In case you missed I'd be remissed if I didn't say you need to come up with your own rhymes and eloquence. Guns though are made for one thing; ending lives. Plain and simple, keep reading you left wingers and right wingers both. The eagle that is the U.S. of A needs you both to work together in order to soar. I have really upset myself with saying that, but it's out there now, ain't it? I feel everyone should have gun training and own a minimum of three guns open carry on a daily basis (we've already got them and they've seemed to dug their heels in so we might as well adapt with the fucking things.) A semi-auto rifle for hunting food, a shotgun for food/eminent defenses, and a pistol for protection of family and home. Common knowledge for everyone should be stated from an early age: IF YOU DRAW A FIREARM ON A FELLOW HUMAN BEING, BE SURE THAT YOU CAN MAKE THE CONCESSION THAT YOUR LIFE HOLDS MORE VALUE THAN THEIR'S THEIR POSSIBLE DEPENDENTS. DO NOT SHOOT TO MAIM. IF YOU DRAW, SHOOT, AND SHOOT TO KILL. REMEMBER THAT THEY ARE AWARE OF THIS TOO, AND IF YOU KILL THEM. YOU MUST LIVE WITH THE MEMORY OF YOU NEEDLESSLY TAKING A HUMAN LIFE BECAUSE YOU THOUGHT YOUR LIFE IS MORE IMPORTANT THEN THEIR'S. guns huh? 5. Prescription drugs. Pharmaceutical companies are not your friends. Especially in the world of psychological medication and pain management. I take aspirin on occasion, in my younger days I was always told I "needed something to help me." Help me do what? From the age of 11 until I was into my mid twenties I've been on damn near everything besides Haledol and Geodon. Thanks for being good dealers...I mean doctors and pharmacists. If you want to ask my diagnosis I will share, but let me say that I haven't taken nor would I recommend any person to give a child DRUGS. They are not safe because they are prescribed. Ritalin is molecularly identical to cocaine. No bullshit. They are training kids to be druggies later in life and parents and insurance companies pay for it. Act now and for $799.00 a month you won't k ow who you are, have bleeding of the teeth, lazy finger syndrome, backward stools, brain bleeding episodes, coma and death, but wait there's more. If that pill doesn't work simply tell us and we will give you some other stuff that will make sure your little boy grows tits like a woman and may have a compulsive gambling and or masturbatory addiction with possible suicidal ideation. At least he'll do better on his homework. Fast forward to early adulthood... "oh mummsy? Daddykins? Whatever do you mean I'm no longer on your insurance plans? I simply must have all these pills to be completely the best I can be." "Gee you can just acquisition the local the scumbags who clandestinely make and distribute the bad version of the same drug you've been on for your whole life, my golden child." And don't forget the ssri's. Google this shit kids: ssri's long-term effects on the mind and body. And finally number 6. Social networking. I've never had a Facebook, MySpace, twitter, or anything else. This site I found accidentally while bored and this is my first time posting anything anywhere. The negatively charged part of social media is shit like; omg I 8 a waffle cone with chokl8 chip cookie dough ice cream scoops. Kill yourself you fat cow. Oh boo hoo sad face.... So long cruelty of this place, I have been wearing my life inappropriately I've been informed. Good bye 14 years. Wrapping up at this point as I've said enough for now. I'll be that eccentric and hilariously unfiltered buddy of you get my styles here. Just need to vent sometimes. Help me with Tumblr if you're interested in that... I guess. Looking forward to seeing responses. It should be noted that I have the utmost respect for any religion but abhor the use of faith as a means to control and not gain a better relationship with divinity. I'm not a doctor or political ass hat. I'm a song writing free-spirited music loving real deal motherfucker. "And I didn't even graduate FROM fucking highschool." I.Q. is up a bit above above average. No, that is not a typo.

""For insurance cost repairs and parts, which is better , the Honda Fit , Subaru Legacy Wagon or Toyota Matrix?""
Im looking for a fuel efficient vehicle to drive one hour into Montreal. I live in the rural area of Quebec known as Rawdon, which is a little mountainous, and the weather can change from slush to ice to rain for periods of time in the winter. Im a musician and cook that needs an economical hatchback to carry my equipment around. A used car salesman told me that the Honda Fit will be less safe to drive in the winter on Quebec roads than the Subaru Legacy wagon will be. Will it make that much difference ? Is there more chance of getting killed in the Honda Fit on dangerous roads ? Im not a fast driver anymore, and don't need any more speeding tickets. Some people might say that the Subaru is a superior car ( 2006 Legacy ) but I just spoke to a friend of mine who used to own a Subaru and she said she was paying a lot of money for parts when she needed to do repairs, and to stay away from them. Are Subaru parts much more expensive than Honda, and please tell me why the Subaru wagon is a better choice, if it is. The engine on the Subaru Legacy is almost double the size, I think 2.5 L as opposed to the Fit 1.5, although both are 4 cylinder., and both are selling for around $ 10,000. I havent looked enough into the Toyota Matrix. They seem to fall somewhere between the Honda Fit and he Subaru Legacy. I think the Fit would probably give the best gas mileage, the Matrix the next best and the Subaru the least. But again, which cost the most to repair ? Toyotas seem to have the highest reacall history out of the three of them. I live in the country and my life has not been functional without a vehicle the last few weeks since my Dodge Caravan died, so I need to make a decision as soon as possible.""

Does my mom HAVE to be on MY car insurance?
So here's the deal -- I am getting a new car soon and my mom wants me to get my own insurance so her bill doesn't go up (she normally pays $70/month, but once I was added to her policy the bill went up $85 -- and that was with just ONE car). And now that I am getting my own car, my mom knows that the insurance is going to sky rocket and that is why she wants me to have my own insurance. However -- according to all these insurance companies, my mom and I HAVE to add each other as drivers onto our policies since we live in the same household. My problem is this -- why is it that when I am getting a quote online and I add my mom as a driver (but have her EXCLUDED from the policy), the price is $1183 every 6 months, yet when I DON'T include her as a driver at all, the price drops down to $854? Do I HAVE to add my mom onto my car insurance even though she has her own policy with a different company and won't be driving my car -- ever? Seriously, the only time she will be in my car is when I am driving, and god forbid I do get into an accident, this insurance company covers myself and any relative that resides in the household. So would I REALLY have to add my mom onto my car insurance even though she won't be driving my car? I don't want to pay $400 more for someone who will never drive my car...""

Women in advocacy: Ending domestic violence with RESPOND, Inc.’s Jessica Brayden
″‘Do you really think you can end domestic violence?’ We get to see everyday that you can.”
Originally published in the Somerville Journal on March 27, 2018.
Nearly 40 years ago, four women pursued a goal: to help women in need, specifically victims of abuse.
They opened their homes to women fleeing in fear of their safety and in fear of domestic violence, which, in the 1970s, had no name.
Soon the founding mothers opened RESPOND, Inc., New England’s first domestic violence agency, in Somerville and pioneered a movement.
Fast forward to 2018, and RESPOND serves more than 150,000 members of the community, with Chief Executive Officer Jessica Brayden at the helm.
Brayden joined RESPOND 10 years ago after seeing the job posting online and learning about the organization and its history.
“Four women in Somerville got together and said, ‘No, we have to do something,’ and they sat around a kitchen table and came up with a plan,” she said. “To be a part of that history and legacy, how could I not want to do that?”
Coming from a social work background with multi-service human service organizations, Brayden came to RESPOND with an understanding of domestic violence, something she saw regularly.
“I’ve done job placement, I’ve done hospitalization units for children, workforce development,” she continued. “Working in all of those sections, there are people affected by domestic violence across the board. In any kind of relationship there can be domestic violence.”
More often than not, said Brayden, people assume her job is sad, which sometimes it is. She’s thankful that the majority of the people in her life don’t have to face the tortures of domestic violence.
But when someone receives the help and care they need, when they gain the courage they need to take control of their life, when they find better situations for themselves and their family, there’s no better feeling.
“Despite having done this work for decades, I can still be surprised at the ways one person can torture another,” said Brayden. “The opposite of that [is] I get to see true strength and courage in a way that most people don’t get to see...I see people lift themselves, and often their children, up and out of the most desperate and dark places. It’s really humbling to play such a small piece in that.”
Every day is an inspiration, she said, between clients, their success stories and the staff. Sometimes the job is heavy, but those people keep her going.
“Sometimes I don’t know if I have another year in me, and I’ll think about how much the people I’ve worked with have overcome,” she continued. “If they can do it for a lifetime, I can do it for another year.”
When working with domestic violence survivors, it’s important to note it’s not ever their fault, said Brayden.
The abuser is the one at fault, she continued. They’re the ones who are threatening one’s safety, threatening their wellbeing. There are lots of different reasons why people stay with their abusers, and it’s hard for people to leave those behind.
“I cannot tell you how many well-educated people say [‘if she stays, she must like it’] to me, and it’s so outrageous and so far over the line,” said Brayden. “We have to move entirely from placing blame on the victim. This all runs into victim blaming...People need to not be so quick to judge.”
Brayden says there are a few things everyone can do in the fight against domestic abuse, including changing their vocabulary and treating domestic violence as the important and dangerous issue that it is.
Instead of calling a white shirt a “wife-beater,” for example, call it what it is: a tank top. Learn about all of the domestic violence agencies and resources in the area so if someone you know is in need, you can point them to a safe space. And above all else, reassure victims it’s not their fault.
“My point is that [these situations] are very complex,” said Brayden. “What someone could threaten or control me with may not phase you at all, and vice versa. It’s hard to conceptualize what you can’t see, and domestic violence looks different to everyone.”
Across the board, RESPOND believes domestic violence is underreported and affects people of all ages. According to Chief Financial Officer Darcie DeLuca, the organization helps people as young as 16 and as old at 60, with averages of 31 year olds.
Seeing the range of ages, said Brayden, it’s important to start prevention and intervention efforts at younger levels, including working with middle and high school students to teach them about warning signs and healthy relationships.
Parents and other adults shouldn’t be saying that because a young boy pulls a girl’s hair on the playground, he likes her, said Brayden.
“Jealousy is not love,” she continued. “Abuse is not love.”
As the CEO, Brayden sees the worst, and also best, cases imaginable. One stands out in particular.
One woman called the anonymous hotline frequently, but was never ready or able to come into the center. Eventually she came to a group training session, inspired by Brayden’s picture staring back at her on RESPOND’s website.
Soon she was checking in at the center regularly, and now she’s out of her previous situation and lives someplace new, checking in with Brayden once a year to share her progress.
She still lives in fear, fear of her significant other finding her, fear of the violence, but she’s in a much better, and more secure, place in life.
“I remember thinking she was so fragile and so broken...she continued making steps forward,” said Brayden. “It’s a nice story, and you get to see that change is truly possible. [People say], ”‘Do you really think you can end domestic violence?’ We get to see everyday that you can. If you can end it with one family member, then you can end it for generations.”

The Insubordinate Society
"Jimmy, Jimmy come down here quick," called my mother in an over-dramatic voice.
I was sitting on my bed when my mother called me down. I ran my hand through my hair tugging on the end. I looked in the mirror that was placed on the wall next to my television. Picking up a brush, I combed through my jet black. My skin was always tanned due to how hot it was in Westwood. It was always sunny; the climate was controlled.
I smiled into the mirror to check if I had anything in my teeth so my mom wouldn’t yell at me about being improper.
Running down the steps, tripping over the last of them, I made my way into the kitchen. Marble table top was running around the perimeter with decorative cabinet's hanging above it.
There was a variety of spices hanging below the cabinet's as though they were floating in the air. The stove was placed in the middle of the semicircular kitchen. It was one of those hibachi stoves that my mother insisted we get as she loved to cook.
The fridge found its place in front of the stove between where the marble table top would have connected.
I was poking my head in the fridge looking for food when my mother voice snapped me out of my trance.
My mother looking very annoyed said in a strained voice, " Are you even listening to me?"
My mom was a short, middle-aged woman. Her hair was blond like my sister, but more of an ashy tone and cut into a bob. It made her look older, the way it shaped her face. She stood at only 5 feet compared to my father, who was 6'2. She was a very petite woman and her skin was milky white. She stood before me dressed in an apron and denim jeans and a white wool sweater.
I decided to play into her irritation by putting my hand on my heart and saying " What! Of course, I'm listening to you. Why would you think otherwise?".
" This is serious Jimmy," She said annoyed obviously.
The look on her face made me roll my eyes. With an amused smile, I stared at her, waiting for her to elaborate.
Before she could say anything, Mickey, my older sister burst through the front door. Her long, blond hair was swinging behind her. She was 2 years older than me, 19 to be exact, but she acted like we were the same age. She was also a lot shorter than me, her being only 5'3 and me being 6'1. She had more freedom then I did, but when she came in with Chuck Hindral following in her footsteps, I knew they were bound to get in trouble for something.
Chuck wasn't a bad guy. Honestly, he was decent. He was a 6ft quarterback, built like Dwayne Johnson and he had a satisfactory grade point average. He had long sandy brown hair that he constantly moved out of his face with this weird head movement. He often looked like he had some condition that kept his head in constant motion. It was funny to look at.
My sister tried to sneak past us and up the stairs when my mom called her back down.
The look on my mom's face could kill anyone in a mile's radius. Now that the attention was away from me, I silently thanked my sister and went back to my room.
For the few quiet minutes I got to myself I decided to practice my piano. I was in the middle of my song when a knock at the door stopped me mid key.
"Who is it?" I called getting up to walk to the door.
" Mickey" my 17-year-old sister called quietly.
I opened the door and she came staggering in.
"What's up," I asked when she didn't say anything.
After making sure the coast was clear she said barely above a whisper, "Mom's going to kill us".
"Us?" I said flabbergasted. "I didn't do anything. What did you do Mic?"
"I didn't do anything!" she said in a rushed voice. Her voice going just above a whisper in a hurried tone.
I didn't know what else to say to that, so I said the obvious.
"Okay... Well, where's Chuck?"
"Mom sent him home. She told him we needed to have a family meeting and for him to come back another day."
I sat up straight, "Family meeting what for?" I said quizzically.
"I have no idea. That's why I'm here now. I think she found out that I left after curfew 2 days ago to meet with some friends at a party." Every time she spoke she looked guilty. I had a feeling that more than 'meeting with some friends' happened, but I didn't feel like pressing the issue.
"And how would she find that out," I said.
"I don't know. You're the only one that saw me, I think. So, if you told, just know you're going down with me. I got stuff on you to buddy."
And with that, she exited my room.
I knew her threat was empty so it wouldn't be stretched too far. What does she have on me? That I go to sleep in my underwear and sometimes Skype call my friends in the middle of the night to play video games together.
I wish my sister would have common sense. Her risky behavior could get us kicked out of our house or even killed in some cases. If not one or the other, then both.
I decided to take a nap before dinner. I snuggled up in bed, fully clothed in my school uniform even though I came home a few hours ago.
I dreamed of being hungry. I dreamed of being full. I dreamed of wanting to go outside for more than 4 hours a day excluding weekends. I dreamed of all different things. I dreamed of what the world would be like in 10,20,30 years. My dreams of the homeless being fed and cared for was soon put to an end when my mom's loud banging woke me up.
"Come downstairs! Family meeting right now!" with one last knock she left. I feared that she could tell what I was dreaming about but then realized I would be in trouble every night if she could.
You can't blame me for wanting to be a peacemaker. I just wanted everything to be the way it was years ago. My grandma was telling me about how the rules were limited to none. You could stay out as late as you want but it would cause suspicion sometimes. She also said you were able to listen to any songs and go to any public school you wanted. I had to take 2 buses to get to my school. I had to apply to get into high school as if I was going to college. They banned those years ago when the population of working people started to decrease. So, after year 12, you went straight into the working class.
I got up and tossed on some sweatpants and a wife beater. As I made my way downstairs, Mickey soon caught up with me.
She scooted past me, not before whispering a, "Remember what I said," with a long face.
With one squeeze to my shoulder, she teetered in front of me and into the living room. We both plopped down on the couch in front of my mom, who was pacing back and forth.
After a while of that, I couldn't take it anymore and said
"Can you please stop pacing backs and forth it's driving me-
She cut me off by saying, " When your dad comes home from work-
She stopped to take a deep breath while we watched her with curious eyes,"-he has something he needs to share with us. "
She looked at us gaging our reactions.
When she realized we weren't reacting the way she expected us to, she continued and said " Now I know it may not seem like a big thing to you but trust me it has to be important. Anytime your father has something to tell us about work, it's important. I hope you guys are smart enough to know that".
She said all of that while rolling her eyes, then plopped down on the couch across from us with a hand rubbing her temple. She seemed to age 10 years in 2 seconds.
I looked over at my sister, and boy did she seem relieved, happy even.
Her eyes met mine and an expression that I couldn't place crossed over her face. In a flash, she got up and said in her best sympathizing voice said
"I'm sure everything going to be ok. I'm going to head back up to my room to wash up. I'll come back down when dad gets here for dinner."
And then she left.
I scratched the back of my head. I knew my mom expected more of a reaction from us, but I couldn't think of anything to say. So, while her head was resting in her lap, I quietly got up and exited the room.
I didn't know what to do now. I did all my homework. Practiced the piano.
There's not much you can do in Westwood. We all have specific rules and if we obey, we get rewarded if we don't, we get degraded and thrown out of our home.
I don't know anyone who would want to get thrown out. I heard stories about them on several occasions.
"...they look like monsters..."
"...they have a disease..."
"...they all look possessed..."
I don't understand why the government would allow them to run around outside the community gates all day. Anyone that gets kicked out their homes, must fend for themselves. Yearly, they would have an event to see if they can gain the respect of the government. I never saw or got to watch the event, I just know when it happens because my mom would watch it on our tv and tell me and Mickey to go upstairs.
If they win they are given back their property. The catch is... only one person wins. So, if there is a family of 4 and the father wins, only he can return to Westwood. Most of the time, they start a whole new family and abandon their previous one. When my mom explained that concept to me one year, I felt disgusted. What type of people rip apart a family with no remorse.
For the longest I referred to them as "the crazies" but my mom told me that the society refers to them as "outsiders" because they aren't allowed inside the gate. I figured they'd try to do something about it soon, but they seem to be content with the way things are being run in the government.
I used to feel bad for them, but I guess they deserved it. When things are put into your head at a young age, you grow up thinking all the things you've learned were morally right. My mom told me, "You should never try to challenge the system."
I learned that the hard way, years ago.
"Mommy, mommy!" 7-year-old Jimmy cried.
"Yes, boy?" My mom said while patting my head.
"I'm hungry," I whined.
As if right on time, my stomach decided to do cartwheels, letting out a loud groan.
"Seems like it Jimmy, why don't we go inside here and get some food. "She pointed to an old shack called Jack and Mary's pizzeria.
At that moment, I would have eaten anything. We went inside the pizzeria and I let the mouth-watering aroma take over me.
"Hello there, what will you be having today?" an over cheeky waitress asked in a high-pitched voice.
Even though it was only 2 o'clock, I still felt that her bubbliness was unnecessary.
"Two cheese pizzas please," I said with a smile to be polite.
"Okay we'll bring it out to you shortly," She said after my mother paid her and took the receipt shoving it in her pocket.
Making our way over to a booth, something just outside the window caught my attention.
Outside the entrance was an elderly man that was dressed in a torn dirty shirt that looked like it used to be white. He had fading gray hair and a bread that was long enough to braid. His pants were...well...they were missing. His legs were scuffed up with cuts and scratches. He appeared to be arguing with a worker from the store.
I hadn't realized I was starting until my mom grabbed my arm.
"We should sit towards the back," was her reasoning for pulling me away from the window.
Now sitting towards the back of the small cafe, my mom tried to make conversation.
"So how was school today?" She asked anxiously.
"Fine," I said not really paying attention. I couldn't take my eyes off the mysterious bearded man.
I'd never seen them up close. Now that I had, my appetite was shot.
My mom followed my gaze" he's a poverty scum."
When he finally ventured away from the cafe, I looked up at my mom, "What happened to him."
"He disobeyed the law and challenged authority," My mom said in such a voice of hatred it made me shiver.
"Here you guys go, two cheese slices," The waitress said to us before leaving to tend to another customer.
When I laid eyes on the best pizza I would ever digest in my life, I pushed away the image of the man outside the window.
I added a variety of spices that sat on the booth we were at. I made sure not to add any of the red leafy things because they were hot against my tongue.
Looking out the window, I took a moment to observe my surroundings. It was a nice beautiful day today. I was also watching out the window in hopes of seeing the bearded man again. Looking down at my plate, I realize I only took a few bites out of my pizza.
My mother didn't like food going to waste so before I could ask if I should throw it away, she told me to get a bag, so I could finish it later.
With that being said, I got up and walked to the counter.
Grabbing the bag, my mother and I began our journey home.
Halfway there, we stumbled upon the same outsider we had seen earlier eating out of a garbage can.
"Hey mom, look!!" I said loud enough for him to hear me. He had to be in his late 40's. His beard seemed to be thinning and slightly gray.
He looked at us with a startled expression. He then dove behind the garbage can.
Mom grabbed my arm, "come on, let's go."
"But mom I think he's hungry"
Before she had a chance to stop me, I ran up to him and gave him my half-eaten pizza.
I mean I knew I ate some of it but it's the thought that counts right.?
Wrong.
My mother called me out in a way that sounded like I had killed a man.
I walked back to her and she did something I didn’t expect at all.
She slapped me.
She slapped me so hard, I felt like her handprint was permanently on the side of my face.
I was only 7.
I didn't know any better.
She brought her face down to mine, so we were eye to eye and said in a menacing whisper, "Do not ever do something like that again. We do not help those people. You better hope nobody saw that little stunt you just pulled. Are you mad? Are you trying to get us killed? We DON’T help them, they deserve this."
At this point, I had tears trailing down my face.
"But mommy I was only trying to help..."I said pleading with her to believe me.
"Help?" My mom said in a mocking voice. "Your 'help' is only going to get us killed. Heroes are only fictional so don't try to be one."
I was hurt, confused and ashamed.
Since that day, I made it a mission to find out what happened to the old man. What happens to all of them...
Till this day, I remember what he looks like.
I couldn't forget.
But before I could help anyone, I had to fight my own demons in this crazy game of life.
