Our Longest Vacay in Thailand - 2021
Our Longest Vacay in Thailand – 2021
Life is always unpredictable, you’ll never know what’s coming next. Always be prepared and always be ready for a change! Australia – Thailand – England We left Sydney, Australia late December 2019. Everything went smoothly as planned. We left everything there except we took our fondest memories of us living there for a brief 18 months with us. Lot of things happened during the years from…

Welcome to the World my dearest son. Nadashi Siripatana, was born on Saturday February, 1st, 2020 Sydney, Australia.
Let’s throwback a bit before it all began. I remember by the time we got here in early of May 2019, we were getting settled, adjusting new daily routines and managing our lives in all perspectives. From getting a cozy home to choosing the good-enough private health insurance. After we got all these and felt quite settled with our (financial) situation, I realize I was late. Before we did the test, we were pretty okay and not panicked if we were to expect another child. We were mentally ready and I was physically ready to deal with pregnancy again. Except, $$$ that we were quite worried. But Alhumdullilah, it was manageable. Of course, unlike in Saudi, we were insured. But here, a day after we got insurance, we knew we were expecting. I called my insurance company and unfortunately, they only cover birth & pregnancy after 12-month of waiting period. In Saudi we had BUPA insurance, in here they also got BUPA but the coverage is not the same as in Saudi. In Saudi, I got there less than 3 months and pregnancy & birth was fully covered. (How we missed Middle East lol) After that, I couldn’t wait to find out. So off we went to Royal Hospital for Women (10 mins walk from our house) and set appointment to meet with the midwife in my 14th week. If you have a normal pregnancy here, you will not meet your midwife and your GP (from any clinic of your choice). The OB-GYN doctors are for high risk pregnancy only, it makes sense. My whole pregnancy check-up, I managed to meet GP twice and 5 times with my midwife.
After we been living here for almost a year, Australia work and life balance is at its best. Most people I know or talked to, works 3 days a week at office and the rest work from home or not working at all. This way, both parents got to spend time with kids not only on weekend but also on weekdays. No wonder when I first came here and brought Insha to the park, there are some dads who brought kids to playground and do all mom’s jobs. It’s a new normal for us. I was also surprised knowing that the nurses at the hospital works 3 days a week only and with total of 36 hours a week. Isn’t that great?
Nadashi at 20th week ultrasound
With this pregnancy, I was craving for all the sweets and chocolate mousse in the first half of my human-incubation period. Until I had my sugar tested and surprise surprise! I had pregger diabetes (GDM;Gestational Diabetes Mellitus) and I had to stop all sweets, no white rice nor white bread, control my diet and lots of walk and prenatal yoga. My midwife appointed me to meet with the group for women with GDM and really, Australia has a very impressive health care system. You will feel that they really care about you. They don’t want you risking by having a too-large baby and ended up with C-section. Ahh, I don’t want it too. So I was extra careful with my diet though it was such a torture to not eat what I craved for when pregnant.
12-hour before getting into labour!
Birth time! Insha was born right on her due date at 40 weeks, so I didn’t expect Nadashi to want to come out earlier than week 39th. A day before I was in labour, we went downtown Sydney and I was walking like I’m still far from baring child. But walking a lot also naturally induce the labour.
At 6am in the morning next day (Feb, 1st), I was lying in bed after a constant trips to the toilet. I felt my water broke and then contraction started literally 3-5 minutes apart (already? I thought it’d start at every 20 minutes or 10 at first but 3-5 mins right away). I kid myself that ‘Nuhh, not yet. I’m too sleepy to be in labour now” I was sure that it wasn’t Braxton hicks because it was repeated and also hurt like hell. I decided to wait to see another 30 minutes and it was the same. Oh man! he’s coming, he’s really coming!
Then I called “Delivery Suit” at hospital and explained my situation. They asked me to take hot shower and have breakfast and then come to the hospital. So I did, but I couldn’t eat because the contraction got stronger and more painful that it hurts like my pelvis being crushed by a tractor. I woke Adil and Insha, “We need to go to hospital now. Nadashi is coming” .. my last-day-only-child then said “It’s February already?” Haha, yep, she knew Nadashi will come in February. We walked to hospital. It was 8am. when we were walking I had like 5-6 contractions along the way. Ain’t I crazy.
Delivery Suit
Delivery Suit
At hospital (8am), Delivery Suit. One of the on-duty midwife (Kim) welcomed me right at the door. Everything felt so calm and quiet. Kim brought me straight to our delivery room. A spacious purple room, big windows that we could see UNSW, bathroom attached, birthing ball and fully quipped suit for delivery. I wasn’t ready to be honest with all the birth thing (again) but at the same time, I also couldn’t wait to meet my new lover.
I had Kim and Nicole assisted me at the first stage of getting into labour. That time I was wondering how far along was my dilation because I needed the most magical thing in my life, Epidural. I asked Kim that I need an epidural and she checked I was 3cm. dilated. With Insha, I had epi at 5cm. which is good timing not too early and not too late. But with the 2nd birth, I figured it dilated quicker so I decided to have it asap. Of course, there’s lot of consent to be made due to the possible (1 in 10) side effects. I consent, I consent, I consent. I couldn’t stand any more pain from this. It crushed me. I thought I could do better this time round, but no, it’s such a trauma to feel it again. I cried few times to be honest. How can women, other women, handle this pain without any drugs? You really are super super human.

You really are super super human.
Finally! Epidural time
At around 10am, the anesthesiologist came. She brought papers with her and explained everything to me (exactly like in Saudi) and I consent to every words said. Only this time round, the procedure is quite different. And I must say, it is better than the Saudi one. The one I had in Saudi was all at once injection. The needle was 4 inches long and really thick one stuck into my spine. My lower body felt all numb after that in less than 2 minutes and I couldn’t even lift my legs. It was amazing to not feel any labour pain at all but I think it’s better to at least feel something without any pain.
Here, they connected the epidural tube on the built-in wall and attached some needle to my back. I don’t remember where exactly but there was something like a locket hanging on my shoulder which passed epidural into me every 20-40 minutes. Every time it kicked in, it felt chilly a bit. At first, I felt no contraction pain but a bit of pressure at my bottom (bearable) and then the other was feeling a bit like small menstrual cramp. Anyway, epidural delayed delivery time. So from 10am, I was scrolling my phone, chatting, netflixing, and was napping till around 3pm. then Kim came in and said that looking from heart rate and other things (from machine) I was almost 10cm dilated. We should get ready to have little bub come out around 3.45pm or so. How exciting! Adil and Insha went out to the playground and came back once I told them we’re so ready for Nadashi!
“Okayy, you’re contracting now, PUSHHHHHHHHHHHHHH” Kim asked me to have our first push. I did feel small cramp which without epidural, I would feeling being struck by a train and cut myself in 2, literally dying. We tried several times and I took so many deep breathes but Nadashi and my body did not cooperate well. We tried for like 20 mins or so and unsuccessful but baby was still happy not in distress. Then, we needed doctor to come and see the situation. He said that the baby’s head is down and he was curling to the side. His spine was on the side when it supposed to be against your tummy. So, he re-positioned the baby. (Imagine, putting all hand inside the move him from the inside. Oh lord. I felt nothing only pressure without pain while he changed his position. I was exhausted from all the pushing (many times) almost an hour later, doc said, okay, if it’s not coming out this time, we might need to cut lil’bit. I was thinking .. no way. okay, i’ll be pushing all my energy out now so I don’t need that cut just to let him out, nooooo!” This time, I did pushed really hard and I could feel the ball shape was coming out then deep breathe and that long push from the body and then deep breathe that last push till all body parts are out! Like I mentioned, my lower part wasn’t all numb it just no pain from contraction, so I could feel the baby human was coming out. It’s still a trauma. really big trauma. I can’t . I don’t want to do it anymore but maybe one more .. after I saw him for the first time and fell in love all over again. Alhumdullilah for everything. At 4.42pm. healthy baby boy, weight 3.2kg, 52cm in length. was finally out into the world.
In Australia, normally if you have normal child delivery and there’s no complication, you can leave hospital after 6 hours of delivery. I had to stay at least 48 hours because during pregnancy I had GDM so they had to monitor baby’s sugar level. Me and Nadashi spent one night in the hospital and I asked the nurse if we could go home next day because after 24 hours checking his blood pricking test, it was all fine and if I have to,I can prick him at home. I also told the nurse frankly that we’re not covered by insurance so within the deposit limit, I’d prefer to stay one night only. Then she said, the Pediatrician will come check Nadashi and she’ll see if we could go home. Alhumdulillah, all is well so we all went home on the 2nd evening.
Alhumdulillah, all is well and it’s time to go home!
Not only great service from Royal Hospital for Women, we also got NSW Baby Bundle full of baby essentials! (worth of $300); Baby playmat, first aid, room temperature indicator, baby Australian books, nappy cream, hand sanitizer, changing mat, baby swaddle, baby sleeping bag, baby milestones card, breast-pad, diaper bag.
Once we’re home, my personal midwife who I’ve visited during prenatal check-up come visit us at home. One day after deliver and the other 2 days during first week post-delivery. Overall, to check my health and baby’s. Checking baby’s weight, baby jaundice, checking on how he latch, checking my recovery etc.
After few days home, hospital also contacted us to have a heading test for Nadashi.
I’m not sure if Nadashi is a good baby or it’s just my biological clock that got used to the wake up in middle of night. But he could sleep longer than Insha as far as I remember. Insha was every 2 hours and Nadashi sleeps 3-5 hours. I even had few dreams before I woke up and realized that I’m a newborn mom, I have to wake him up to feed now. He’s just a deep sleeper!
Thanks for reading about my first week of life. I hope you all have a blessing days ahead.
How much it cost for out-patient delivery cost (For temporary research activity visa 408);
Midwife consulting A$147 (6 visits)
GP visit A$90 and A$60 (twice)
Ultrasound at week 20th A$270
Blood test and glucose testing was covered by our private insurance
Delivery package (A night stay) A$1,383
GDM consult A$77
*The hospital required us to pay deposit of $6,000 2-month before month of admission.

“Wow, we’re moving to Sydney?” I remember that excitement we had for our new adventure ahead. It was last year of Adil’s PhD, so we were looking for ‘What’s next and where’s next’.
By October, 2018, Adil got an offer from UNSW as a postdoctoral fellow in Oceanography, Sydney. We had around 6 months before we move to the new place. Adil was excited to go to Australia because he wanted to see Australia. He was born in Australia (QLD) when his father did his PhD. UNSW is also where his father graduated his Master!
Adil always hears the good-life story living in Australia from his mom, so for us, it’s a really exciting experience to go live in a new place.
During UNSW interview
Congrats Dr.Adil!!
First thing first, visa. The visa process is so easy because everything is online. Maybe it was easy because we’re sponsored. The requirements for the visa was not too tiring, we just uploaded all needed documents but heyyyyyy, we’re Thai so it pretty sucks that we were asked to get “Police Clearance” which we had to get it from Thailand (Only).
Next, plan was looking for housing. I had (a lot of) time to do some research on cost-of-living in Sydney. Housing rental, electric bills, internet and so on. We focus on finding a place where Adil can walk to the office (This way, we can reduce the cost of transportation and also increase our timing flexibility if the distance from home to office is within 15-20 mins.) So! here comes the first wave of shock.. The cost of renting is OUTRAGEOUS. We were looking for a 2-Br, 1B with normal living room, kitchen, and balcony. The cost per WEEK is around A$500-$600! (10,000thb-12,000thb/Week). Lower than this is not a place call home. Trust me, we did try to find cheaper price with a nice and lively place, but we couldn’t.
Normading style
Fly AirAsia!
We flew with AirAsia from KL-SYD, I must say, it wasn’t bad at all. We flew morning and got here 8 hours later. It was night time, we had contacted a Thai driver to drive us to Alison Lodge (Thank you Mint for giving us his info 🙂
We stayed for 10 days before we finally got the house (after 3 house inspection). We did the house inspection, the first house was not like what it looks on the website at all. It’s cramped, small and old. 2nd house was a nice wooden floor, big bedroom but open kitchen is so small and 3rd house is so dark and so old and the first cockroach I saw for the first time in 4 years. Then, we looked up again for a nice house and within distance and price between $500-$600, we found one which is what we were looking for, I contacted the agent and ask for an inspection asap. The price of this one we decided to move in now is $560, nice house and everything is in its place. 2 bedroom, carpeted house, winder binder, spacious balcony, separate kitchen room, bath and shower not too small, laundry room, built-in wardrobe, built-in shoe shelf, door hooks and door mirror. It’s perfect.
Neighborhood
Insha in front of our building
Our first night, we got out first blanket and pillows. We didn’t have anything. อารมณ์เสื่อผืน หมอนใบมากกกก. Next day we went shopping for kitchen stuffs at KMart (Cheap!) Luckily, when we came at that time it was first 6-month that residence here will put away their no-longer use good-stuffs outside their house. So we got some nice plastic chairs for Insha, free good TV, free lamp, dining table, dining chairs, a small carpet, we got a cheap microwave, cheap 2nd hand washing machine, we bought 2nd hand fridge, 2nd hand dryer. We waited for a couple months before we bought the couch. haha what a hard life that time with no couch. We only have 1 mattress for now and we bought a good sofa-bed. Soon, we will need to have another bed but it’s not necessary yet for now.
We got everything nearby our house. The library is just 10 mins walk with great service for the community. We can borrow books from there as many as we like also with toy membership ($75/yearly), Insha can borrow up to 8 toys a time for 3 weeks!
Within few minutes walk, there are a park and playground where all the kids in our neighborhood would go and play together. Most of the parents I met are so diverse. So, that makes me feel comfortable and they are all very nice, helpful and friendly.
15 mins walk from our home is Coogee Beach! Nice sandy beach with so-blue water. It’s true that everything here is expensive, but having a good time at the park and a nice walk to the beach is absolutely FREE!
The food products here are at the best quality but of course, it’s quite pricey. The quality is super good, fresh, farm pick, organic and no-hormone added etc. Downtown Sydney, there’s Thai Town that we go when it’s a sunny weekend. There are shops open by Thai people and we can get all Thai ingredients and veggies at cheap price! (This is what we missed when we were in Saudi)
Oh! One more thing I loveeeeeeeeeeee it so much here that there are second-hand shops at every corner. Pre-loved clothing is so cheap and you can even find nice like-new NEXT blazer or Zara or Adidas at cheap price like $5! Not only clothing, at Vinnies, they have everything; carpet, lamp, clothing racks, kitchen stuffs, books, house deco at very cheap price. Me, love it. Red Cross shops also sell pre-loved clothing, the better quality and branded quality clothing and when you purchased, the $$ you paid also goes to Red Cross charity. Oh, what a great reason to shop 😀
One of the reasons we love Sydney is Taronga Zoo! We got annual passes for both of us and Insha gets in for free. So, whenever it’s sunny, we always go to Taronga. The animals here are super cuddly and so well-cared. There’s no cage, animals live freely in the jungly hill of Sydney (Right opposite the Opera House).
After the zoo, we often go downtown at Darling Harbour. A big playground full of kids and kiddy city-water area for kids to play and have fun!
Or some weekend, we’d go to Sydney Fish Market! Enjoying the fresh seafood and fighting with the seagulls that tried to steal our food!
Our Randwick community events also hold nice events all year. The event we went last time was at Royal Randwick Racecourse, so many kids activities, concerts from Baby Shark, free snacks and everything is FREEEEEEE!
Sydney weather is funny. You can expect it to be sunny around 24 degrees forecast and then dropping to 14 degrees on the same day with strong wind and chilly rain. So, someday, we find some activities to do together at home! Like easy cooking, baking and some painting at our cozy overpriced-renting home.
Last but not least, Thanks Dada Coralust for all of his efforts and always doing his best for us, our little growing family ❤
WE LOVE SYDNEY!
SYDNEYSIDERS "Wow, we're moving to Sydney?" I remember that excitement we had for our new adventure ahead. It was last year of Adil's PhD, so we were looking for 'What's next and where's next'.

“I was wrong, thought that I could handle traveling across continent for 12 hours with a 2 year-old…alone” … but she was so well-behave at home and that just tricked me to believe that she will listen to me as she does to her Dada. The whole month trip in October is planned from Bangkok – Phuket – Nakorn – Satun – Pattani – Sungaiko-lok – Bangkok. We travel every week and every SINGLE day on this trip, I got headache everyday!
I was wrong again to think that flying at night is better because she’d sleep .. ha ha .. yea, she did but it was not comfortable enough though I decided to buy JetKids gear specially for her comfort on flight. I was tried already by the time we were on the plane. After Dada dropped us and waved his good bye and “Have fun!” to us, Insha started running away from me right at the custom passed the no-enter line and left me with carry-on bags shouting her name. Luckily, the guard helped me catches her and gave her to me. Again, I was wrong for the 3rd time to load the stroller 😥 I thought she’d listen to me!!!
Note to self: Never fly alone with a kid nor think that flying at night is a good idea. And, mom and dad has different authority over a child.
We arrived Bangkok, finally! I had my mom waiting to join me for Bangkok trip. I had it all plans for eating, shopping and chilling. But, you know … plan is just a wish when you have a kid with you.
It feels great to be home, to see how crazy Bangkok still is and how not a bit has changed. After a long flight, we lost a day resting at the hotel and decided to go to the zoo next day. (There’s no zoo in Saudi) I planed, I swear to wake up like 8am get ready to be there before 12pm. But how can I wake Insha up knowing that she’d be cranky because not enough sleep and I’d be cranky too! so I was hoping she’d wake up and we can make it to the zoo. We left hotel at 12ish pm. Got there at 2pm and people were leaving. Good! She enjoyed the animals especially the feeding the giraffes.. I intended to show her only giraffes since there were in an open air area and not being caged like other poor animals. My fearless girl, no doubt, watched how people put banana onto the stick and give it to the giraffes. She refused any help and she did it all by herself. 🙂
Waqas and Insha
1st time meeting baby cousin
This trip was Insha’s first time meeting her baby cousin, Waqas. Insha amazed me by being such a sweet bigger sister. She’d feed him, putting powder on Waqas and of course, sit on Waqas when no one’s watching!
Aside from visiting the zoo, Insha got to meet all super nice aunties and uncles who have been really welcoming and playful with Insha! ❤
And, how can I miss shopping while I’m already in Bkk! This trip to Bkk I got to meet 2 lovely sisters who was willing to go shopping at 3am with a mommy who couldn’t find time to go during daytime. That night was a night to remember since we got fined for parking at the bus stop cus we thought.. ‘dude, it’s 3am! just park here” ==;
Next stop … Phuket! This trip purpose was to visit Insha’s grandfather and family, beach (a plan was wake up early and walk by the beach, Insha played sand castle and I sit and chill.. it didn’t happen), dolphin shows (since we missed one in Bkk zoo) dress Insha in Thai dress and relax for few days.
Insha and Baba and Waqas
Insha and Kakak Fatu
Insha and Aunty Menee
A newly opened tourist attraction in Phuket is Thalang Maneekram See here . Got to dress up Insha and Waqas in Thai traditional costume was fun!
Next stop… Nakorn Sri Thammarat! To visit Insha’s paternal grandparents and cousins, diving into the lush green of trees and beautiful waterfall! A place where we can truly relax! First thing first, the fresh organic rambutans was waiting for us though it has already passed its season! Thank you Siti(s) for the effort and rambutans for waiting!
Insha and Faiz (cousin) met once when they were less than a year old, this time they both are 2 and a half and befriended right away at first met. Insha is quite bossy and clumsy, Faiz is a good cousin who always tell her “Be careful, be careful Esha!” They’re good with each other for 2 minutes and then fight another minute. A week together, I have put 6 toys on the shelf because they were fighting each other to get it. I got an idea of having 2 kids at same age and it was a war with no hope for peace agreement.
After few days rest from the planes and car ride, we went to the waterfall! Insha got to meet local boys who were fishing for their dinner. By fishing, I don’t mean using fish rod and wait for the fish to come. The local way was putting the bait on the stick and put the stick into the rock holes. The two brothers were there alone and no tourist. That place was perfect with crystal clear shallow water and sandy. We decided to have the kids have fun here!
Insha can’t understand me (yet) when I said “No Insha, I will buy it for you. Let him eat his snack. Insha wait okay?” She said “NO” then went to the boy for the snack.
See you again Faiz! I will be your good cousin when I grow up more!
Got to feed some baby goats and bigger goats at Insha’s relative’s farm in Satun too!
Satun, Thailand
Next stop, Sungai Ko-lok! This time visiting Mama’s relative side. Got to visit once a year is good enough to flashback old childhood memory with places, food, and people.
It’s funny, when we’re in Thailand our clock is always about food. After breakfast, we’re thinking, what should we eat for snacks then lunch then snacks then dinner then last snacks. Even Insha woke up at 7am and first word was “Let’s eat again, Insha hungry” or if we eat again “Wow, food again?” haha that’s why we love and miss Thailand so much!
Ending our last 4 days in Bangkok before heading back to Jeddah and to Dada who we left to wander alone for a month .. This time before leaving Bkk, I planed to stayed in river side boutique hotel. I used to live in Bkk for 5 years but never visited river side in those years. This time since being away from Bkk for almost 6 years, feel like going there to see the side what tourist see and to mesmerize the tropical scenery before heading back to the Arabian desert.
I must say, this boutique hotel is too perfect. Loy La Long Hotel is cozy, warm welcoming, hearty breakfast (Vegan choice available), and this place is actually floating in the river!
Chilling by the Chao Praya River
Out trip in Bkk alone came to an end and for sure next time we’ll have Dada with us because Mama won’t do it alone anymore!
We got morning flight to Jeddah and I just realized that it was lot better than night flight with Insha. She rested well the night before so she was happy on the flight, then when it’s time to nap she could nap without being too cranky. So … dear moms who are traveling, fly day time is better because you will bother people less if your baby is cranky .. also, you could nap too. hhhhhh I’m still tired thinking of my October, 2018.
❤

Morocco … a country in many ways apart. It’s in North Africa but somehow the feeling of being there is struck by the odd sensation of not quite yet reach Africa. From Western city of Casablanca’s fronting Atlantic Ocean to Atlas Mountain, Oasis valleys to the Sahara , Fez old city, blue city to the modern Marrakesh. And as we have wandered from Casablanca to 4-hour away to reach Spain in city of Chefchaoun, few hours drive to Old City of Fez, road trip to Ifrane, Midelt, Merzouga, Ouarzazate and Marrakesh, we knew that this tour du Maroc will definitely be the unforgettable one for us.
Bonjour Casablanca – Traveling with a toddler could be quite handful. So we decided to spend one more night in Casablanca just to rest and explore the city. We’d say it’s not a touristic city but I’m glad we did explored it somehow. Mosque Hassan is gorgeous located along side the coast, sunset beach is beautiful, great seafood but there are few things that we’d like to share from this trip is that as you are obviously from another country, some people will come to you in the best possible way to assist you but at the end of the day, they’d ask for $$ for his help that you didn’t need at the first place. Other thing is the taxi cost, we knew from our host that the cost from Mosque Hassan to the Ain Diab beach is around 15 Dh and when we asked, they said it’s 100Dh or at least price 80Dh and we were like “No way one driver was discussing with Adil and ended up saying “This is my country” and Adil has best respond to him saying “THIS IS MY MONEY” hahaha Finally, after 15 mins or so, we found an old taxi driver who offered us a ride and gave 30Dh for the cost. We were happy but once we reached there, he changed story. He said “50 Dh” this is Basmane restaurant, if to market, it’s 30Dh. I quickly tap his arm and said “Listen old man, you told us it’s 30 DH and we told you it’s BASMANE RESTAURANT with address. Don’t do this, it’s haram.” He still insisted for extra money, so I gave another coin for him which was same as it was nothing. Long story short, people are nice and kind but they could have bloody face when it comes to $$$.
Casablanca to Chefchaouen
It’s a long trip from Casablanca to Chechaouen. We took train from Casablanca and stopped at half way Souk Albraa ( 4 hours journey) and from Souk Albraa, we had taxi (another 3 hours) to Chefchaouen. We checked the bus, it’s long and the hours is not right for us. Plus, with baby, I would travel in the most comfortable way as possible. Along the way from Souk Albraa, we could see the suburb cities of Morocco, people and a dog chasing the sheep, donkey carrying heavy loads on its back, fruits market, butcher shops and breathtaking landscapes. We reached Chefchaouen time before sunset, we did explore the Blue Pearl of Morocco before Sunset finding the spot for tomorrow photographs.. We don’t waste the moment, Adil has the sunset shot of the Blue Pearl.
We had another day in Chefchaouen today before our next traveling to Fez. You know how your toddler is so active when it’s 6am in the morning and won’t sleep and then by the time when it’s good to go out like 10am or 11am or even 12pm they just decided to take nap and it was a long 2-hour nap? That day we had to wait for her to wake up either way, if we wake her, she’d be a cranky monster and we won’t be able to take pictures. Oh well! See picture above how the city is located, we love getting lost in this place because we always found new shades of blue which means new pose for pictures! Best part of getting lost in Blue City was that we found a Chinese restaurant. We didn’t know it was one before but many Chinese tourists walk-in and out the door. We were curious, so we went inside also. Tables was full and we found one empty. Right there, no hesitation, we just sat there and missing Asian food. The restaurant was very loud (==’) and so happening. Waiting was long then … one thing we predicted might happen, happened. A Chinese lady was yelling at the staff for serving her food late. Insha just stood and stared in shock. For us, we just grinned and “Yes, this is fun :D”

A Happy Insha after good nap!
The Old City of Fez
Fez, Morocco
It was my first time to see and to feel the ancient city. It’s unique, it’s enchanted and rich. Funny story and experience for us when we first got to Fez. We booked the Riad (a large traditional house built around a central courtyard, often converted into a hotel). All Riads are in Old city. We got there and it was not like arriving in front of the hotel where there’s parking space or whatnot. We called hotel and Hisham (Riad rep) was there and took our luggage and bags and then showed us his Riad badge that proofs he works there. I was unsure. They put our belongings in an old wodden-cart and had random man carried it for us. Walked pass the old town where there are people selling, kids running, old men chatting, donkeys were standing and sounds of Azan was calling. Once we reached the front door of Riad (It was an old not good-looking door and there’s French, Italian and Moroccan flags on top) they opened it and my jaw dropped. It’s like hidden gem. It’s the most beautiful house, so Moroccan, this is what I want to see!
Riad’s lobby
Rooftop of the Riad where we could see the entire old city. Perfect sunset and speechless sunrise.
Walking around Fez Medina
Famous for its leather tannery, Fez has largest leather tannery in Africa. All leather goods and carpets are everywhere and not to mention the smells, it’s authentic genuine leather. From little cushion, shoes, bags, sandals, key chains, wallet, jacket, dress etc. All good everything!
Chilling on Riad’s rooftop with Old City view!
Sahara
Merzouga, here we come! Icho, from Moroccan Desert Tour picked us up early in the morning for the long ride ahead. Icho is a Berber who is perfectly fit to be our tour guide for this trip. We figured earlier when we planned the trip that since it’s a long road to go to Merzouga (Sahara), it would be hard and tough for us and Insha to take bus. Plus, traveling with big group of people is really not our thing. I looked up and found this private tour and decided it’s for the best and most convenient way to travel with baby. I’m glad we did, the trip to Sahara is the highlight of our trip. We got to meet the Berber who live in middle of the desert! We saw where and how they live, many beautiful kids welcoming us to their home, great tea and hospitality.
View from our Hotel’s rooftop.
First evening we arrived after a long ride and finally we here in Sahara Desert! It was almost sunset and the reflection of sun rays hit the sand and it gives red dunes, brownish, yellowish dunes! Starkly dunes and camel rides is just perfect sight to see before the sun is gone and the sky turns its color and the million stars shine.
The idea of desert is so hot and no water is not in the Sahara during its winter. The night was beary beary cold (4-2 C) we turned heater on and have a well rest sleep before our new journey begins the next day. Like I mentioned earlier, our time is flexible so we waited for Insha to wake up and it was 10am. Pack clothes for a night and checked out because tonight we will sleep in the desert! We had whole day before camel ride around 4pm. So we drove on the sand dunes it was like roller coaster. Insha was “Woe woe woe!” when our car is going up and down the dunes. She was very chill, eating chip and sit like she’s done it before. (Yea, she did when she was 5 months in Dubai Desert tour) Very desert baby!
Insha and Uncle Icho!
Today we visited the nomads mainly. We passed by a small village where we saw 2 ladies were collecting water from the canal. We were surprised! The water is from underground. People dig it and made ways for water to go into their households. Water is crystal clear, it’s drinkable and it’s all natural. Their houses also have solar power, the water is free .. what a life to live in. 🙂
Insha and the Berber girls with their hand-made camels
Hey look, spot the difference. She just went and sit there by herself. ^_^
Then, we ride down to the houses in middle of the desert. There were 2 small houses I’d say. soon we got there, we saw an open tent for welcoming the guests with mint tea, 2 cubical houses and 1 kitchen walking distance from those 2 houses, bread-stove under small hut, a donkey tied to the well and children running around.
Soon as Insha saw little people, she just took off and go play with them (kicking the ball). When she saw donkey, she tried to walk to it but Mama has to stop before donkey kick her or whatnot.
I got this inspiration from my AFS host parents travels. Mom Salma always has something to give to children wherever she goes. We decided to buy the food and snacks for these families here. The kids were happy and excited to get the snacks and the moms were grateful for the food we gave. This is one of the purposes to travel. 1 is of course to go and see how great God is for all the creation and 2 is the learn about life by experiencing how others live. Soon as I saw their houses and kitchen and surrounding, I asked myself “Can I live here” .. and “Why do we (modern living) need so much in life, for them, roof and water are the most necessary things in life” I don’t know how they think of us living in such different life than theirs, do they think of living life like ours? or this is how life supposed to be for them and they’re happy with it. Reflect back my own thoughts, I have so many needs in life, I have so many choices of where and how to live my life. I wish my life could be tough yet simple like them and not easy yet complicated like mine. Tough in our thought probably not tough for them. We can’t think for other’s anyway so there’s no way we can know what’s best. So come to conclusion that no matter how different our life is, at the end, all we need is a contented piece of mind and ease at heart.
Around 4pm. we headed back to hotel from desert tour and ready for 40 mins camel ride to the desert camp! Our Berber guide was Muhammad, a friendly man with friendliest smile ever! Can you imagine carrying a almost 2 year-old baby on 40 mins camel ride to go sleep in the cold desert for one night? My bag pack is full of Insha clothes. I was worried about her more than myself. Insha was not scared at all for the camel, in face, if we let her walk she’d just run into camels. That’s very scary. Camels are unpredictable and just for fun, try youtubing “Camel Kick”. The time we left hotel on camel was perfect, it was before sunset and buy the time we got to our camp, we sat on the high sand dune and contemplate life at the sunset.
Soon as the sun has set, I dressed Insha and turned her into a penguin with so many layers of clothes to keep her warm. Nothing is worst than traveling with a sick baby! Alhumdulillah, this whole trip Insha was perfectly fine. The night at the camp was fun like camping! We live in a big area of tents and there were 5 Indonesian tourists join us as well. Camp fire and dinner under starry sky .. again, so so so colddddddddd. Insha slept early from the activities all day, she is tired. I couldn’t sleep and I was so depressed because it was so cold even I wore 5 layers and sweater and hoodie and under wool blanket. I couldn’t sleep at all I almost cried. You have no idea how much I can hate cold.
It was December, 28th. Our wedding anniversary 🙂 We planned to do something memorable and what can we do in middle of the desert is taking first photo with the stars! The moon shines bright but we need the moon away in order to get just stars. We slept first and when it was 4am, we woke up and went up on the dunes to find perfect spot for stars shoot. I was grumpy, because it was cold. 😀 We took many shots before we got the perfect one. It’s not easy to take photos with the stars, but it’s totally worth it.
Next morning, we ride the camels back to our hotel. Another 40 mins to hotel and soon as I felt the sun on my face, I felt alive again. When we got to hotels, there are some camels eating and Adil’s camel has kneelingdown for him and Insha to step down… the camels are tied with robe together so when Adil’s camel dropped him off, s/he immediately ran to the food! Remember, I was on the camel behind his .. So when my camel was kneeling down, his camel just ran off! Luckily I held on to the handler tightly, or else, I could’ve fallen off the camel :O It was funny actually, Muhammad was running after the camels and untied the robe from that camel to mine and set that camel free.
Next stop, off to Ouarzazate. We wanted to see the oasis valleys, old kasbah and Ait Ben Haddao. Ait Ben Haddao is a traditional mud brick city on the edge of High Atlas Mountains and it is on the UNESCO World Heritage list. Ait Ben Haddao has featured in more than 10 Hollywood movies and mostly as a replacement for Jerusalem.
We spent one night in Ouarzazate before next day drive to Marrakesh. Icho, our awesome tour guide asked us if we wanted to go off-road. And we were like “Why not!” so we took off-road and we saw the nomad who live under the cave in middle of the mountain, the two young sisters were with their sheep and a dog chasing the sheep and saw this young boy was walking and we stopped him and gave him a chocolate cake. Look at his smile!
After seeing these kids, it made me flashback time when we went to Raja Ampat, West Papua and met the Papuan kids who were living simple life on the remote island and who were so extremely happy to get toothbrush or soap as the present. Compared to the modern city children, who already has iPad or expensive toys, these kids are happy with small little things! I hope Insha will have these small appreciation in life.
Oh btw, along the off-road, I was thrilled to see Mountain goats climbing up the mountains too!
Our last city before heading back to Casablanca and back to Jeddah was Marrakesh. A busy city soon as we arrived at the evening on same day. Again, we stayed in Riad, this time it’s Riad Yasmine in old town of Marrakesh. Our plan here is to explore Jamaa ElFna, which is an open market in Marrakesh and it’s 15-20 mins from our Riad. Here is me running after Insha because she could easily fall into the pool!
We spent 2 nights in Marrakesh, it’s a busy city with tourists everywhere. We also found a Thai restaurant in Marrakesh! After having every day Moroccan food, we missed our food so much so that we decided to walk around city and walk to this Le Petit Thai restaurant. When we got there, I asked the waiter if the chef is from Thailand and he said yes and also a chef from Morroco is trained by Thai chef. Nyway, we ordered Ka-nom jeeb, Satay, Pad Thai, Pad C-ew and Kraprao gai … the taste was so satisfied. It’s so Thaiiii! And after that day and that meal, we had dinner and lunch and dinner at Thai restaurants.
Dear Morocco,
Thank you for having us stepping foot on your Sahara, your old cities, your charming Blue pearl, your old Kasbah and your Atlantic Ocean side. This trip was beyond smooth and perfect.
You are so full of beauty.
Till we meet again,
Adil, Faten and Insha

“I’m so tired being a stay-at-home mom. Can I go back to work and she goes Daycare? I spoke to a mom of twins before her opinion was let the baby stay with you for the first year of their life, it’s very important for them to feel love and passion from you as mother.” Emmm.. do you mean all kids who go to Daycare feel insecure about love? I didn’t buy it.
First day sending her I had mixed feeling. Insha was almost 4 months that time. She didn’t scream like crying when we got there but she was “Heeer heerr” and her lips went like 😦 I started working by time she went to Daycare. It was the first time I felt working is relaxing! Honestly speaking, being a mother full time is EXHAUSTING. Of course I love her. There’s so many mom ways of loving their babies. Stay-at-home mom does not mean she loves her kid more than working mom and stay-at-home mom doesn’t mean she works less than working mom! Insha cried on and off on the first day but she adapted eventually. Being in Daycare she got to meet friends her age and little older with mixed nationalities, she got so many cool toys, she listens to people speaking all the time, interacting, music, all kinds of baby stimulation.
I always think that I might missed the moment when she started to crawl or walk, but turned out she did everything 1st time at home! She spent most of the day 8-hour there and came home play, eat dinner, shower and sleep (4 hours with us). You know, 40 hours/ week daycare but weekend with us all day and night is already exceeds 40 hours. LOL I swear, I don’t see any problem regarding feeling less loved! Everyday at almost 5pm I got excited to meet her and pick her up. Even we (Me and Adil) meet at lunch we will talk about her! She’s always in the mind.
Learning to Walk
Walking Walking Walking
A year has gone so fast. I remember you were a helpless baby for 3 months (which felt like 3 years during that time) and look at you! crawling, walking, running, refuse to be held already since you can walk อ่ะนะ ∇
One time Insha came home and “Wheel On The Bus” was playing she turned to me and started to dance. When song sings “Round n’ Round” she does her 2 hands rolling, when song sings “The wipers on the bus go swish, swish, swish”, she’d does her 2 fingers left and right, when song sings “Doors open and shut”, she’d clap her hands for close and open them for open! Oh my God, she’s just one and she teaches me how to dance already. 😀 There are many things that surpirsed us as parents because she learned from other places and other people and not just home and just us.
First 3 months of having baby is tiring. 4th months onwards is getting more fun, 8th months onwards got surprised all the time with their capabilities. As new parents, we always excited when our baby just got upgraded!
Insha is now 15 months ..
Finally, Thanks to Ms. Raileen and Ms. Ching from Building Blocks Daycare that keeps taking photos and noted about Insha’s 1st year development. 🙂
“Insha has captivating smile that captures everyone’s heart and every time she giggles and squeaks excitedly, she knows that she already has our attention.” -Building Blocks Daycare

… Welcome to the Enchanted Xinjiang …
Ever want to step out of your comfort zone and see something you’ve never seen but heard before and at some point you can somehow find yourself related to it? Whether related to its people or culture or religion. Xinjiang is a place where it’s totally something else for us but at the same time, we have something in common; we feel their pain as it was like ours, we angst with them like it was us too who being unfairly treated and yet we feel the pride when they have their pride.
Once you visited Xinjiang, its physical nature’s beautiful will enchanted you. Xinjiang geographically located in the far west of China bordering with 8 countries (Mongolia, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Afghanistan, Pakistan, India, and the disputed territory of Kashmir.) From north to south it splits between snow-capped mountains and desert basins.
It splits between government-mandated Mandarin and the Uighur-turkic language that uses Arabic script. Whereever you go, you’ll see both languages on the same signs (like they get along quite well.. oh well!)
The local Uighurs looks are totally diverse but for surely you’d not mistaken them as a Chinese since they’re distinctly different from the Han Chinese. —the mixed array of hair colors, eye colors, and cheekbones. There are Uighurs who are redheads, who look Slavic, some with very angular features, and others who look more conventionally Chinese. Historically, the locals (Uighurs) were rivals to the Han. Surprisingly, even among Muslims from both sides. In just decades almost century ago they were fighting together against the Chinese government and could somehow defeated it (because the Japanese invaded China that time, what year? But it did happened) Once they defeated the Gov. they both, the locals and the Han became rivals (rolled-eyes) because both side claiming who will govern both tribes. Even from our recent trip, I could feel that even they live together and MUSLIMS, they tend to be separated. Which is pretty sad for me to see. Even the mosques are not shared. For Han Mosque, the Chinese pagoda and the Islamic crescent. And for the local mosque, the sense of Arabs and Persian architectures. Totally different.

The Han Mosque with Chinese Pagoda and the Islamic Crecent
The Han Mosque, Yinning, Xinjiang
The Local mosque we saw on the side road
The Local minaret hall for Local mosque – Yinning Museum
Historically, XInjiang has been under control from time to time. From Genghis Khan to the Qing dynasty. It was after the political shifting of Chinese History that Xinjiang became an “Autonomous Region”. (Well, so-called). Our guides in Xinjiang were locals and told us that before that it was more relaxed and accommodating under the gov’s policies towards the minorities back then. However, decades later, they found out that Xinjiang has rich natural resources (Oil, gas and coal Read More ) which could befit China’s economy. Gov. started to increase their investment in Xinjiang but somehow with the wellness of their economy then the inequality arise between the Han Chinese and the Locals. (Locals were majority and now almost half of its population are Han Chinese who migrated because the chance of them getting employed much higher than other region because the minorities are not allowed to) Okayy…So, Xinjiang’s natural resources are being exploited, land being taken, language being repressed, religion being suppressed and everything becomes incresingly polices and restricted. Now you see why the tension between the locals and the not-local ones are for real?
An Uyhgur in front of old city of Kashgar. (Part of which distinctively different from modern or Chinese architecture were demolished by the Chinese Government. This led to the protest of the young and old Uyhgurs in 2009 against the demolition of their heritage by the government.
As you may hear and as we have seen, there have been many forms of repression as such no beards (unless 50 and above), no burqas, no Islamic practice publicly, no under 18 to the mosque, passports collected (Not even within China they can travel and let alone other countries). For us as tourists who are foreigners, especially when I wore a so-obvious hijab and proper one, we had to step down to their office at the check points for further investigation. Some even asked me to take off my hijab. Some took our photos for God sake who knows. So for this, even westerners who travel to Xinjiang should also be aware because with tight curbs and high risk of punishment on both locals and tourists. Some tour guide could be arrested and stay in jail if their customers are journalists. You know why.
Whether they genuinely desire independence from China, or simply want a modicum of human rights—are silenced and swept under the rug, away from the eyes and ears.
Allah hears you old man.
May He bless you and your younger generations of the Uyhgur.
Kashgar Animal Market
First place we’d like to share with you is our favorite place “Kashgar Animal Market” or Kashgar Livestock Market. It was a commercial center of the Old Silk Road (Approx. 1,500 BC). Can you believe it still exits in the present days? Seeing traders, dealers and buyers come gather with their horses, donkeys, camels, yaks, sheep and cows like the old days were is the most classic authentic scene we’ve ever witnessed. The only place in the world.
The Old City of Kashgar
Old City of Kashgar is a must place to go and see. You will see how locals houses are like with their small business front of their houses. Small kids running around playing together along the street and say “Hi!” to us as they know we have camera and we’re from afar. This is the remaining old city that have not (yet) been demolished by the Government. For more info about what’s left in Kashgar Old city go here :) . Coming here to Xinjiang, made us appreciate the freedom we have always have for the past 27 years of life because when we were there, we could feel the pressure of being unfairly treated and controlled by staying there for just 2 weeks!
Kashgar Street Market and Their Fashion!
As you may see most photos we have are all old men wearing the same styles of dark suits and pants with their traditional caps. So what about their ladies? I was so fascinated with their fashion. It was attractive in a sense that I’d not see it any where or maybe there’s a place with this fashion but back in the 80s. Colorful, color blocks, or all red, or all green, or yellow and red and blue or all blue! Most of them wear high heels boots and stylish handbags and full make-up of course! Really bright faces, vibrant lipstick colors and thick eye-brows. One unique thing is the hijab. Their way of wearing hijab is by wrapping their head with a triangle scarfs, glittering and transparent. We saw some women who wear proper hijabs but for some reason, it is prohibited to wear proper ones unless you’re Han Chinese. Sadly but they’re still surviving by living with their identity. Let’s see some photos!
All glittering
Silky fabric with the print. Vibrant colors and beautiful craft!
Last but not least! After all the whole trip we made in Xinjiang, China. It is one of the best trips we have ever been to. It was not just a trip that all about relaxation and happiness. This trip was everything from the breathtaking views of nature, the exotic looks and identities from their people, to the painful history they shared along with their struggles with the present under their government. The most precious thing we see in them was “Islam”. Despite the restriction and limited freedom in practicing religion, our tour guide keep teaching his a year-old daughter to say “Allah” and point a finger as “The One and Only”. Us as Muslims who are free to practice without any restriction, we feel blessed and we hope that our prayers and our sincerity to them could make them feel “They’re heard”. In a road trip, we always tell them that we knew and heard about you and we’d like you to know that “We care for our brothers and sisters in Faith”. May Allah bless you my oppressed brothers and sisters. All around the world and not just Xinjiang. From Palestine to Xinjiang, from Far west of the United States to Central Africa Republic ..
“We Hear You”

Life with A Newborn
When someone says “I love being a mom” don’t intepret that as everything is beautiful about being one. They really meant that but for sure not the part where the baby becomes cranky, screaming and not calm. First few days after born, she was easy to take care of (maybe she knew her mommy was still in recovery from delivery). Fed and slept and fed and slept. But in later weeks I find her becomes…

Once you’re pregnant, you will start counting the days or thinking of the week that you will (or might) finally meet someone who’s been living inside you, eat from you, sleep with you (Though mom sleeps and baby is partying), that kicks and hiccups, that “ouch, she just kicked my ribs!” that special person who when you look into mirror you realize that your body is no longer yours and your heart is already belong to them.
Week 40 marked as the full-term of pregnancy. Some women gave birth to their precious little ones earlier between week 38-39. I thought mine was going to be like so, high expectation was there and once I’m about to reach “Week 40” tomorrow, I started to feel disappointed and tired of being pregant already.
That day we went out to Jeddah and I was walking finely in the Mall and showing no sign of Pre-labour. Oh well. She’s coming … Be patient, she’ll come when she’s ready and when my body is ready.
That afternoon I had appointment with my OB-GYN doctor and she said she will check if I have dilated. Nobody told me that it was going to be so shocking and little painful! Who said pregnancy is beautiful! Body changes, hormonal changes, organs movements in order to make another human lives! SubhanAllah, I get emotional sometimes when I think of how we’re all beautifully made by the Will of God in the woman’s body. Okay, back to dilation. She checked and said that my cervix still close. I was :/ and went back home with my husband who kept telling me not to be upset cus she’ll come soon. He’s my great comforter awww <3
How did the night happened… Couple weeks before labour, body starts preparing body to be ready for labour. My sign was Braxton Hicks which is similar to period cramps when your amazing uterus just squeeze but it was not regular.. Wasn’t too painful for me in fact, I love it when I feel something going on becus! I rarely have any symptoms when I had period! And another reason is that “Arkk cramp, that means she’s coming :)” .. My husband is an all-nighter and he was watching a movie while I was sleeping next to him but on the other couch. Then 3:20am. I felt a gush of liquid were coming out and couldn’t control. I was calm at first and then told him that “She’s coming!!!” I knew how it would be like so, I wasn’t panicked at all plus no contraction (yet). But Hub! He started to be worried and I could tell from his face how he felt. He didn’t rush to make 911 call which is what he practiced everynight since week 38 and that shows how he was stunted when I told him “She is really coming and we’re going to finally meet her in 12-24 hours, InshaAllah”
Me dialing 911 : “Hello, I’m 40 weeks pregnant and I think she’s coming soon cus my water just broke”
Honestly, this is how I want my pre-labour to be like though most of women experience pre-labour with constant contraction. There’s no pain at first if the water breaks. So Duhh! I was packing my bags and ready to leave like I was going shopping for clothes!
911 : *asking my details and pick up point* Okay Ma’am, we’re coming in 10 minutes.
I went upstairs to tell my mom and cousins (who spent the night for weekend) that we’re heading to hospital and they can follow around noon time tmrw since labour will at least in 12 hrs.
911 arrived and I walked to the ER car comfortably. We arrived at KMC (KAUST Medical Clinic) first in order to check myself and if I should be sending to Dr.Sulaiman Fakeeh Hospital already. The nurses check if the water is positive for the Amniotic fluid and was waiting for my doctor to come at around 4:30am. Again! What I hated the most was checking the dilation 😩. I took deep breathe and bear that pain for few secs. Then she said “okay, you’re ready to go! She’s 1 cm. now” I was happy because knowing that I’m going to see my baby soon and forgot about the future pain that I have to enduredmm, I actually have no idea how painful it’d be.
yayyy! Ready to meet my baby within 12-24 hrs’!
5.00 am. We were on our way to DSFH in Jeddah, luckily no traffic and it would be around an hour to get there. While on the road, I felt little contractions till mild and it was distant from each other then closer and stronger by time. My Gawd! It’s getting real and I can’t back up.
Heading to Labour Observation Room
They sent me to the Labour Observation room where they will monitor my contractions. If it gets closer together and stronger, means it’s my time finally meet my girl soon. 3 nurses came to check the dilation each time it gets more painful. 2nd time was about almost 2 cm. she suggested me to go for a walk and come back. We went out for a walk not too far from the room and there, labour rooms where I could hear people screaming from the pain of going through labour. My contractions that time came every 3 minutes and last 1 minute. I swear, it was the longest 1 minute I have ever had. While during 3 minutes I was just talking randomly to my husband and once it’s almost 3 mins I started to feel the contraction I had to bend down 90 degree. For me, it helps reduce such pain (a little). When contraction kicks in, I could see how worried and concern my Hub is. He kept saying sorry for I have to endure this pain alone. 😅 I am very much appreciate for his caring and empathy. Couldn’t asked for a better life partner. Love you babe!
The lady who was in the labour room scream out loud that we could feel the pain. For me it was like someone being tortured and about to die. It was like someone being cut like in psychopath movies in freaking “SAW”. When I hear it “mann, I should’ve stayed in the room”. Then my contractions kick in again… I literally cried. I couldn’t handle it anymore. That pain still stuck in my mind until now. Swear to God, I’ve never felt that much pain in my life. Around 20 mins walking I decided to go back to the room and it was around 10am. “Just 10!” 😣
Don’t know what to say, but I am so thankful for you.
Monitoring the contractions
At 11am. My pain from contractions were getting worse. My feeling that time was like a giant truck run over my abdomen and ribs over and over. I had to breathe deeply and hold it for minutes till it goes away. I had to bite my hijab and bend over. I hate hate hate it. But at second, stronger contractions mean my baby will see the world soon!
Doctors weren’t there to check my condition and so we called the nurse. I felt pretty bad that I couldn’t handle anymore pain. She asked if she could check my dilation and she did! Okay, for those who know not how it works .. They’ll insert their fingers into lady’s part and push it deep to touch and check the cervix if it’s open yet or not. With contraction and something unplesant poking in I almost kicked her. 😥 It was painful that I told her “I seriously need Epidural now!” She said “Okay Ma’am, it’s about 4-5 cm. now. We’ll get you to the labour room and give you an Epidural injection.”
I couldn’t wait and so off we go to the labour room. Where next to the room was the earlier ladies who were screaming to get those babies out of their bodies. My Saudi aunt said Arabs they scream when they give birth. Well, maybe not all of them but mostly. Why would they waste their energy screaming? 😑
Mama’s here for her daughter and I am here for my daughter. it was beautiful moment .
I was in pain…
10 mins after settling in the room the Anesthesiologist came in and given me details of how to and pros and cons and my personal health details before I agree to have the Epidural injected into my spine. I did lots of studies about pain relief for labour before I decided to “Yes, I’ll take this”.
Epidural anesthesia is a regional anesthesia that blocks pain in a particular region of the body. The goal of an epidural is to provide analgesia, or pain relief, rather than anesthesia, which leads to total lack of feeling. Epidurals block the nerve impulses from the lower spinal segments. This results in decreased sensation in the lower half of the body.
About Epidural
I couldn’t imagine any pain hellisher than labour contractions so giant needles and inserting tube into my spinal cord couldn’t be that bad. When she injected it, I felt like something pinch my skin and then she told me she was about to insert the tube please stay still and tell her to stop if my contraction kicks in. The whatever inject me into my spine I felt like cutting the meat that has soft bone emm, like steak with the cartilage. No pain! Emm maybe little or maybe contraction is too strong that I felt senseless to other things. She told me the drug should be effected within 5-10 minutes and she will come back and see me. “My Gawddddd! I don’t feel the contraction anymore!! Wow so magical!!! Omg is this real?!” So glad I chose this. But the least side-effect I got from this was just super sleepy that I couldn’t even lift my eyes. But it was good! So I got to sleep from 12pm.to 4pm. Then the doctor came to check if I have dilated more and it was fully dilated! When she was checking my dilation, seriously, I don’t sense any pain like how I was going to kick the nurse before magical Epidural injected. As I read online some women ask for more epidural, and other suggest to bear little pain with just one epidural dose and so you could still have the sense. So when she checked mine, I could feel it. This is good so I’d know when to push (without pain 😛) sorry to say this, but it’s like you’re about to poop, feel no pain but you feel the poop. Why would I choose to feel the pain when I can take Epidural to not feel pain. Say this cus my colleague who has 2 kids said one with Epidural and the other is not with Epidural. She said the 3rd she plan to have it naturally without Epidural so I asked why and she said “The pain makes me feel something more to my baby, it’s like I did it through the pain” I was like … “Emm, I don’t need to feel pain, I don’t want to” …
At first my mom decided not to be in the room but because of Epidural she saw me so chilled waiting to push haha and so she stayed. When time starts, there was one female doctor, one nurse and me , mama and Adil.
The room was roomy and it gave the feeling of comfy plus they allow us to take photos and videos too! Once everyone is ready to welcome the new baby to the world the nurse put her hands on my huge belly (thats about to be flatted soon) to help me push by pressing it when contraction kicks in. I couldn’t feel the contraction but when my stomach is hardened it means it’s contracting then she told me ” Yallah mama, push push” I inhaled before I push and once I push I did without breathing. With around 3 pushes, Doctor placed my baby girl on my chest. It was around 10-15 minutes. FYI, some women who take Epidural took longer time to have the baby out. So my baby girl cooperate well too, so Alhumdulillah it was succeeded in within few minutes. I later know that during the push, Adil was there seeing the baby’s head was coming out. He told me that “It will take sometimes for me to have you have our next child again” He saw and felt what I’ve been through since pregnancy till in labour room. Wish all the men could feel what it’s like to have gone through the process of bearing a child. Againn! I’m so grateful and thankful for Adil :’)
Alhumdulillah • Insha first few minutes of life
When I first saw her, her big round eyes were staring at me without any cry yet. I was stunt by her…Omg, all these time you were inside me .. You remember me right? The one you kicked into the ribs and poked sometimes? Now you’re here infront of me! I was worried why wasn’t she crying but her eyes melted me. *seriously crying now*
The nurse took her away for checking her up and took out the fluids inside her. Then the pediatrician came. I love this part. He came in and touched my baby and then he said “TabarakAllah, Mabrook” then he recite Quranic verses. I felt calm and relax (Thanks for Epidural!) then my baby’s Dada made an Azhan to our girl. It was moved for him. That time after all done, my mom and Adil was next to me while I was lying in bed. My mom asked me “How do you feel?” I was quite for a moment, I looked at her and Adil and then said “I’m already a Mom” then I cried. He kissed me on forehead and my mom was teary too! :'( It was the most emotional moment in my life *teary now too*
Freshly Born
The Pediatrician
Mommy and Baby’s match guard!
I was in labour for 13 hours and it changed my life forever. I read about the Post-Natal Depression or the Postpartum before and I thought it was a myth and unreasonable to have it. But when I experiencing post-labour myself.. I do have the Post-Natal sorta depression. When I look at her when she’s sleeping I became emotional 😭 She’s so tiny and beautiful and precious. Will I be a great mommy for her? I tried not to panicked when she cries but when I can’t sooth her, I feel stress amd cry too! And other thing made me cry is also the though of what happened on April 22 since 3:20 am. Until 4:10 pm. And not to mention the pain I still have to recover a bit. Imagine something huge came out of you and when she came out you could feel your tummy was empty and jelly-like soft when touching it. It felt so weird. Body has to go through lots of changes and it really does effect the emotions. Not just physical changes but also emotional changes. Now is my Day 8 of recovering, I felt lots better and I can walk like normal and lying down on my tummy is what I’ve miss the most since pregging!
God, women who gave birth naturally without Epidural … How could you do that? I thought of the strongest contractions I had when I was 4-5 cm. already worse and if I have to wait for it to be 10 , I’d probably never think of having next child (soon).
The moment I see my baby is the feeling I can’t describe but as I type this now I am freaking crying! My body changed since first month of pregnancy..constantly changing untill the last month. Then now, my body is changing back to where it was like before pregnancy. Yep, not just baby wearing diapers coming home , also mommy!
Dada and Insha first photo
I sleep, I eat, I poop and I repeat!
My baby girl, Insha Siripatana was born at 4:10pm. Friday, 22 Of April 2016. Dr.Sulaiman Fakeeh Hospital, Jeddah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
Many asked what’s her name means .. I like it when people say “Insha Allah” So in my thought and my own assumption means “Willing, Authorize” something like that. And what important for us is that we like how it sounds and we don’t really hear this name in fact, never heard who named “Insha” before. So we named her Insha. So, our intention wasn’t looking for the best meaning of names but we choose to have her name how we like it to sound and whenever I hear or see the word “InshaAllah”it reminds me of her! Then I did some googling if this “Insha” has meaning .. then I found that it’s in Urdu. Which is cool because Insha somehow has some Pathan DNA. Anyway, her name in Urdu means “Creation” and “Origination”.
One thing added, I never expect my future daughter to be born at same country as mine!
Then an hour or two later we moved to our room and stayed at hospital for couple nights.
People said I look like my Dada!
His Precious
During the stay at hospital, nurses took Insha for Pediatric check up couple hours and brought her back and came back to get her again.. The moment she was taken away, I missed her already. But on the other hands, 3 of us (Adil, mama and I) could finally sleeeeeeeep! But man, First night the epidural was still there and my lower body was numb so I could sleep. But the next morning I started to feel pain and it was so hard to walk. 😩 it’s been a week now and Alhumdulillah now all is well.
Okayyy, let’s go home!
First family photo
We arrived home in KAUST an hour later .. And the feeling has changed. Before this we were couple who think about next trip planning, what movie should we be watching tonight, home cook or restaurant for tonight, cinema or home and sitting on the couch eating snacks and take naps whenever we want. Also, our home was like how it was when we came at first (No mess, less stuffs, and cozy) . And now!? Everything is about Insha. We want her to have a good life and we aim to give her a better future than ours. As we came this far and feel blessed for the life we have, we always be causious that cozy life isn’t always good. There could be a day where all of sudden thing gotten the other way around that we didn’t think of .. So I guess, we are being more serious about life now as we have the other life that ties between us.
Yayyyyyy! Home Home Home
Dada’s little princess
Insha and Abai first photo
Finally, I’ve been a mommy for a week already and for the rest of my life. Honestly nothing matters to me now besides my family.
Praises be to He, for I have a smooth pregancy and easy delivery.. And my baby girl is a healthy baby. My family of 3 is now about to grow and as parents, we both have something to look forward everyday.
As I’m writing this blog, Insha is asleep soundly. First couple nights we didn’t sleep because she was awake and cried the whole time. See how frustrating that is. I forgot how 8-hour straight sleep looks like. My mom is here to help out and teach how to sooth baby. We’d be freaked out if we did it alone.
Night before it took Adil 4 hours from midnight til 4am. to put Insha sleeps. And last night we did better, she slept around 2am. For the newborn there are few suggestions of what to do when they cry. I read it from Dr.Spock’s.
What we need to have is just LOADS OF PATIENCE. Again! Thank your for the supports and the loves for our little bundle of joy. Looking forward to meet everyone back home soon InshaAllah 😊

KAUST, KSA
A Day Daughter is Born, A Mother is also Born… Once you're pregnant, you will start counting the days or thinking of the week that you will (or might) finally meet someone who's been living inside you, eat from you, sleep with you (Though mom sleeps and baby is partying), that kicks and hiccups, that "ouch, she just kicked my ribs!" that special person who when you look into mirror you realize that your body is no longer yours and your heart is already belong to them.

When I first got here it was May 3rd and few weeks after will be my cousin’s wedding at that time and another one in June. So me and Adil had a chance to see how Saudi Wedding is like. “It’s like no where else”
I have experieced the wedding in my culture which is more like Malay culture where we normally do it at daytime and where we gathered everyone together males and females … “Saudi is different”
We arrived Makkah around 3.00pm. and was told to sleep and get ready around 10.00pm. for the wedding. I was like “What?!” We couldn’t really sleep since we not used to and we dressed up for the wedding at around 10.00pm. as told!
While we’re waiting .. and since we’re the host we left around 11.00pm. The wedding here usually booked a wedding hall like a hall in the hotel but here is not in a hotel, it’s in a hall.
While waiting for everyone to be ready. Little Arusa (Bride) come join!
When we arrived, we splited to male section and female section. I was worried how Adil will be at the wedding since he knew nobody but everyone knows that he is Faten’s husband. He got to meet my male cousins, uncles, other relatives (Who I haven’t even met! but we met when I was little perhaps)
While on my side, female side .. everyone covered in black from top to toe only eyes could be seen. I didn’t cover my face but I was in black. The girls are wearing gowns like princesses and it reminds me of time when I was little girl in Saudi too. Most of the photos I have during my childhood were me wearing those kinda gowns. And yes, Saudtreats girls like princess.
My husband with my cousin (AKA. The Groom!)
The scene I saw were all women in black dress and face covered left only eyes were dropped by their husbands in front of the hall. I saw the blinking shoes from below and can’t imagine what they were wearing.. Entering the halls then I see the reception collecting the abayas and put in the shelves and there I saw all women in Gala Gowns or Red Carpet we see in Hollywood! Everyone dressed up ultimately gorgeous with Arab style make up and hair-do. It’s different from our fashion in terms of make-up and hair-do.
Entering the Hall
Middle of the hall mostly decorated with Photoshooting of the couples and sweets on tables or candies or mints or cupcakes etc.
Once in the hall, we greeted each other with Salam and kisses on the left once and then three kisses on the right. I messed it all up since for me one kiss on the cheek is Khalas (Enough) Hahaha.
The table were served with chocolates, dates, Arabic sweets and Arabic Tea , juice and water.
Lebanese Chocolate is heavenly good!
My first time wedding here in Saudi after everyone entering the hall and sitting at tables, talking to each other, selfies (They do!) I started to wonder about where is the bride?
Asked one of my cousins “So where’s the bride?” and she said “You’ll see her around 3am.” Time asked was midnight. So the wedding here starts at midnight and the guests will enjoy and entertain themselved with hired Musical Drum on the stage and the ladies will go up on the stage and do the Arabic Dance while some enjoy the sweets and talking or selfies.
I started to feel hungry and sleepy .. I am too shy to dance and so not good at it, can’t imagine myself dancing! I was sitting there and meeting with my relatives who I have never met or have but could’nt remember :) It was a good time.
At around 3.30am. I was told to get ready and wear abaya since the bride will come out and the groom will come from the man’s side of the hall. Everyone grabbed their abayas and eveyone were convered in black in within 10 minutes.
While the groom join the Bride on the female side of the hall
The bride was dressed in white like western wedding and the groom was wearing traditional Saudi groom’s gown.
While seeing the bride and groom do little dance and cut the cake and walking on the stage … Take some shot with Abayas since they don’t really take photos while wearing the Oscar’s dresses . hehehe
With beautiful cousin Fatima :)
With beautiful flower girl niece Baraa’ah
It’s around 3 something am. She was awake but sometimes half-sleep. Then fell asleep on the couch after done doing her job as a flower girl!
Oh! And during the time when we arrived from midnight to until 3.00 am. the bride was doing the photoshooting for wedding collection. Hired professional photographer with spotlights and setting. I was there to take some shot with the bride as well but haven’t seen it yet since it’s really private photos for them to keep as wedding memories.
After the bride and the groom done romancing, the guests were then invited to eat (yes, at around almost 4.00am or Iftar time.) The food were variety from Kabsa, Mhendi, Biryani to White rice and many kinds of salads (Veg and fruits) and then there’s dessert; chocolate cakes, carrot cakes, brownies, cupcakes, macarons, pudding etc. And castle of tropical fruits! The food were serve as buffet placed on the long table in the hall.
On the men side is very different from women’s side. The groom were with the guests the whole time and were doing the sword dancing. Seen from the videos it was more like wooden stick not really sword. And the food for the male side is very simple. Just Arabian Rice with Meat .. not on the plate individually but in a huge plate for 6-7 people eating together. No fancy dessert or variety of salads to choose like women’s side!
Who said women here are so oppressed? hahaha
Since we were the host, we let all the guests leave first then we left. So it was the time of sunrise already when we were in the car heading home. It was a good experience but I was really sleepy and exhauted. Back home then sleep whole day.
Time before we knew we will be tired in the next 12 hours, shoul’ve slept Haha.
Saudi Zawage (The Saudi Wedding) When I first got here it was May 3rd and few weeks after will be my cousin's wedding at that time and another one in June.

Alhumdulillah for the past 6 months during my 1st and 2nd Trimester of being a pregger. I honestly didn’t feel like I was pregnant (physically) since the beginning. The 1st Trimester went well and smoothly with no morning sickness but extra craving for everything. During 2nd Trimester it was the time for our annual trip that we planned earlier to visit home countries. And 2nd Trimester is a good timing since there will be less fatigue and more energatic. My craving was little less than earlier in 1st Trimester and I was really energatic going snorkeling in the middle of the ocean and swimming with fish almost eveyday during our 14 days trip. Tummy is obviously getting bigger but no problem! But I didn’t feel anything yet beside wow, it gets bigger! Until we came to Bangkok on 5th of January that night it was my first time feeling something is really moving in my tummy especially when I lay down I could see my tummy is like wave and poking out to the side of my tummy. :) Wow, I am so in love with my baby. It’s getting real!! It feels real. SubhannAllah
It was the time when my husband could feel it too! I started to have the feeling of bubbles in my 16th week of pregnancy but my husband couldn’t feel it from the outside. But this time, he could feel his baby too! I feel no longer fantacising it alone.
Entering the 3rd Trimester (26 Weeks) First day back in the office someone asked “Faten, are you fat or you pregnant?” .. Before this no one could really tell but now! I feel old haha so me go like “Yes, fat and pregnant.” I am in my 25 but I feel I am too young for this, no idea maybe I still want to travel the world and shopping still? Anyways, I believe all first-time parents have this feeling of not-yet-ready till it comes.
A Mommy-to-be during the 3rd Trimester is the time of confusion, stress, little enxiety and discomfort. As your uterus is stretching and the baby is getting stronger in kickings and punchings or whatnot, your long restful sleep becomes associating with the baby kicks which constantly keeps you awake for the rest of the nights. Back pain is of course there when you start carrying a baby of almost 1,000 grams front of your abdomant and center of your gravity. Hard to position the sleep and need to switch side during the nights. Bloating and farting hahaha more often than the 2nd Trimester too. Ewww so cute :) My husband always say my fart is cute. >_<
More pillows please!
Omg… I miss sleeping on my tum tum :'(
Craving is still there though little less than 2nd Trimester but it’s there.. Never happen before to me. So far I am now have gained 10 kg. in 6 mnths of pregnancy. :D
When we came back from the trip it was a long 25 days of the trip and I started missing seeing my baby through the ultrasound and plus we didn’t know about the baby’s gender yet! My husband wish for baby girl as his first but I was okay with either baby boy or girl. We went for the ultrasound the next day and Dr. was checking up and he said “It’s obviously girl, baby girl”. My husband was smiling like he was a shy boy, really sweet and his eyes were also smiling. He obviously falling in love with another girl .. beside me!
Back to how it is like to be in the 3rd Trimester…
It gets harder now to tie up the shoe lace or picking up the accidently fall plastic bag on the floor, getting up on the stairs taking more time and leg-cramp easily happens. My baby girl is now 790 grams which is normal standard weight for the fetus of 26 weeks and she’s Alhumdulillah very active which means she is a healthy baby. That would explains how leg-cramp happened and how hard night sleep happens too! Oh yes, and peeing more often than the 1st Trimester and 2nd is becoming new normal. Speaking of pee .. I read the article days ago about the amniotic fluid it contains the baby’s pee. The baby practicing their beathing through swalling its pee and pee it out and drinking it again. Sounds Ew but like it or not, we all had that.
I get excited everytime thinking that in few weeks I will get to see my baby. I wonder how much a mother loves her child. I wonder what is love at first sight and I wonder what is unconditional love. Will she has my facial figure? Will she has her dada’s lips? Will she has my forehead? Will she has dada’s amazing brain? I wonder how she will look like, perhapes she might look like her grandmother? But for sure she is our DNA combination so either way.. all great.
Three Months – Four Days Untill My Baby is Born. InshaAllah
It’s a Baby Girl! Alhumdulillah for the past 6 months during my 1st and 2nd Trimester of being a pregger. I honestly didn't feel like I was pregnant (physically) since the beginning.
