Hey y’all, I get that we’re sad about Unus Annus ending and we’re all prossessing/grieving differently. But if I may I want to ask y’all, can we please stop asking content creators to make Unus Annus content when

1. They had nothing to do with the channel

2. The channel’s already dead.

For me, the only exceptions are fan works, because in my opinion we were a part of the channel. We may not have been an editor or a guest but we were here for Unus Annus. And maybe it’s how you grieve. The only other exception is Matt’s theory. Yes, Matt had nothing to do with the channel (but it sounds like he was watching it too, so I think he bypasses the first point I made) but he made and posted his theory BEFORE the channel died. It wasn’t an after the channel died type of thing. It was a “Here’s my thoughts on some of the codes that have been sprinkled in the videos.” type of thing.

What I’m talking about is the fact that some people have spammed a content creator during his stream asking him if he was an unus or an annus, which resulted in him getting annoyed because why would you come into someone else’s stream and essentially promote another person’s content? You’re there to support the streamer. Not the other content creator(s) who you’re talking about in the chat. The only exception to that rule (and this happened in the same stream) would be if the other streamer mentioned the streamer you’re currently watching in a positive manner or in a joking way (ex: passing along the message that the other streamer feels they’ve been an enabler to the newfound addiction). Upon being asked for song topic suggestions, a good portion of the comments pertained to Unus Annus. And upon the content creator in the streaming situation asking for content suggestion, at the time of me writing this, there were 5 requests asking him to do something pertaining to Unus Annus.

Guys, can we not make such a cool thing leave a sour taste in other people’s mouths? The channel is dead. Unus Annus is over. Grieve, process, do whatever you need to do. But please please please don’t try to drag other content creators into the series. If they have something to say and wanted to share then I think they would’ve done so already (as Ross O’Donovan did, as Sean did, as Dawko did). So please, let’s just... not be assholes. We have The Barrel, we have the Lo-fi music the fan did (if they choose to keep it up), and we have Vincent’s song. We don’t need outside content. Please just stop. Don’t make people feel ashamed to be part of Unus Annus and its community.

TL;DR: Let’s stop asking content creators to make Unus Annus content if they had nothing to do with it and let the channel die the way Mark, Ethan, and Amy intended.

Thoughts on MatPat’s Charity Stream

It’s one thing to hype up the stream before it happens...but I didn’t anticipate the awesomeness of it. I knew it would be something amazing of course, but just...they keep blowing me away, and I love them for it.

Now bear in mind, I was only able to watch the FNAF portion onward due to being so busy, so I can’t talk much about the other parts (I’m watching them tomorrow). But honestly, it was just awesome to see the four of them collaborating like that and bantering (yes, Steph counts!). I’ve always wanted to see Matt stream with Mark, but adding Dawko was EVEN BETTER because not only was he a hardworking genius about this game, but he also had a great sense of humor and I think I’ll start watching his stuff because he seems so awesome and funny 💕

I can’t possibly appreciate Miguel enough. He’s such a bright, optimistic person, even after surviving cancer at such a young age...and I think St. Jude is definitely a factor in that. Providing life-saving treatment, transport, and housing for the kids and their families, treating them like the kids they are even through treatment, sharing every scientific discovery so that others can use their treatments for kids and adults alike...St. Jude is amazing, Miguel is a beacon of light, and I just want to give them the world.

Seeing Matt and Steph cry on the couch almost made me cry too because it’s so, so incredible what we as a community can do. We the GT community really are such a powerful force when we channel our power for good, and I hope none of you forget that. I see the negativity people post under the MatPat tags on Tumblr and Twitter, and look, you can think whatever you like of Matt’s theories–I know there’s a few I disagree with personally, and that’s not what this is about. And if we’re gonna be a force for good, we first have to clear the air regarding the negativity in the shadows (and, sometimes, right out in the open).

What’s important is that you don’t confuse MatPat with Matthew Patrick, because if this charity stream and last year’s prove nothing else, they should show that when Matthew and Stephanie Patrick believe in a cause with all their hearts, they WILL fight for it, no matter what it takes. It’s like the couch theories, like Mark’s callout to YouTube, like all the other videos where YouTubers make a heartfelt plea for something they truly believe in.

The Patricks, Mark, these creators, the guests on the two GT charity streams, etc...they’re not shallow, fake, liars, sellouts, or any other derogatory name people might call them. For all those looking for proof that MatPat is only a character, that Matthew and Stephanie Patrick are truly genuine and well-meaning and passionate about worthy causes, this is it. THIS is the proof you need, right here in these almost-10 hours, in the almost-11 hours of last year’s mental health charity stream (split into segments now, but existent all the same). Matthew Patrick is NOT a bad person, not by any stretch of the imagination, and it’s time the Internet stopped acting like it.

So let’s adopt the St. Jude mentality. The stream was called #CancelCancer because organizations like St Jude are making that possible. They’re spreading knowledge of cures to cancel cancer for good, to counteract it. Life’s too short for regrets and negativity, so give people the benefit of the doubt if they mess up a couple times, if they apologize and make an effort to right their wrongs.

We’re only human, and I think sometimes people forget that. There’s a reason the good YouTubers don’t like to be idolized and turned into celebrities. It’s unhealthy, and it makes it so that if they mess up, it’s a bigger deal, because they’re viewed as something more than human. So love those YouTubers, support them, but never forget that they’re human, like us. They’re gonna mess up, that’s inevitable. But if they right their wrongs, if they do amazing charity streams like the GT ones this year and last year, if they promote positivity in the community and stand up for that community? I’d say they’re worth the benefit of the doubt, wouldn’t you?

Again, we’re a force for good, but only when we want to be, and let’s not forget that we’re at our most powerful when united to affect positive change. But we can’t do that by holding on to negativity, to past misconceptions and miscommunications, so let it go and feel freer for it. I promise, to all those with doubts, if you truly let go of the negativity and animosity you feel towards people, it’s a liberating feeling, and it makes you feel like you can take on the world. And in a world where so much is changing for the worse so quickly, people willing to fight for positive change might be just what we need.
