Il santo del 30 aprile: Beata Paolina von Mallinckrodt

Beata Paolina von Mallinckrodt La Congregazione delle cause dei santi per il 30 aprile ci ha descritto la figura di Pauline von Mallinckrodt che nacque a Minden, in Germania, il 3 giugno 1817; e già da giovanissima, con alcune amiche, comincia a dedicarsi all'assistenza di bambini, anziani, malati e poveri. La ragazza crebbe nell’ambiente sereno di una famiglia nella quale regnavano amore e stima reciproca, in un clima che non era però del tutto scevro di segreto dolore a causa della diversa confessione dei genitori: la madre, una cattolica devota; il padre, un convinto protestante. Con l’aiuto della grazia si consolidò la fedeltà di Paolina al Signore, mentre rifletteva su questa situazione. Ci fu nella sua giovinezza anche un periodo critico, un tempo di grande tormento, di tanti scrupoli, paure e insicurezze, che ella seppe superare soltanto affidandosi pienamente a Dio in una preghiera profonda e continua. E Dio le era vicino e rischiarava la sua anima con una luce di fede tanto chiara che a ragione si poteva chiamare una particolare “grazia di fede”. In forza di questa nuova visione donata da Dio, ella poteva esclamare: la fede mi ha pervasa in modo così chiaro e deciso che avrei creduto più ad essa che ai miei occhi. La fede fece di Paolina, come ha affermato un testimone, una persona tutta d’un pezzo, chiara e trasparente come la luce e altrettanto semplice, così che ella riconobbe già a diciotto anni con evidente certezza lo scopo della sua vita in una particolare vocazione a Dio. Era una fede consapevole e forte quella con cui seppe sopportare dolori, amarezze e varie prove e che si mostrava nel suo amore totale e incondizionato a Gesù Cristo e a Maria, sua Madre, ai quali ella si abbandonò fiduciosamente. Nella ricerca di Dio e della sua maggior gloria ella crebbe nella grazia, fortificandosi sempre più alle fonti della preghiera in una profonda vita eucaristica. Dal suo amore a Dio scaturì naturalmente e spontaneamente l’amore al prossimo. Con grande tenerezza si dedicò ai bambini ciechi, ai quali voleva donare luce interiore, raggio della luce divina. Per questo servizio compiuto per amore di Cristo fondò la sua congregazione delle Suore della Carità cristiana. Insieme a quei bambini accolse poi altri bisognosi di aiuto; tutti trovarono in lei e nella sua grande opera aiuto, conforto e soprattutto amore. Quest’amore la spinse ad assumere per la sua congregazione anche l’educazione dei giovani: la considerò una vera e propria missione che le esigenze del tempo richiedevano in modo particolare. Audaci furono i progetti della beata; ma ella seppe attendere l’ora di Dio in un riserbo silenzioso e umile. La sua opera crebbe con successo, anche se tra continue lotte e con molte difficoltà. Nel periodo del suo migliore sviluppo venne anche l’ora della tempesta devastatrice: la dura persecuzione sotto le leggi del “Kulturkampf”. Ma anche qui madre Paolina mostrò la sua interiore lealtà alla volontà di Dio e fu pronta ad accogliere profughi e a percorrere la sua Via crucis. Morì il 30 aprile 1881; fu beatificata da Giovanni Paolo II il 14 aprile 1985. Ed ecco la omelia di papa Giovanni Paolo II per la sua beatificazione (Editrice vaticana): SOLENNE BEATIFICAZIONE DELLE SERVE DI DIO PAULINE VON MALLINCKRODT E CATERINA TROIANI OMELIA DI GIOVANNI PAOLO II Domenica, 14 aprile 1985 “Abbiamo contemplato o Dio, le meraviglie del tuo amore!”. 1. È questo il grido di giubilo, che la liturgia pone oggi sulle nostre labbra dinanzi all’opera grandiosa, che il Padre celeste ha compiuto per noi nel suo Figlio diletto, glorificandolo mediante la risurrezione dalla morte! In questi giorni di gioia pasquale abbiamo rivissuto nei segni liturgici e sacramentali la passione-morte-risurrezione del nostro Redentore. Con i fedeli di ogni parte della terra abbiamo proclamato la verità che sta al cuore del cristianesimo: Gesù di Nazaret è risorto per non più morire! Egli vive col Padre e prega incessantemente per la sua Chiesa (Rm 8, 34; Eb 7, 20), comunicandole la propria vita divina. 2. In questa domenica seconda di Pasqua, domenica “in albis”, nella quale sono beatificate due religiose, suor Pauline von Mallinckrodt e suor Caterina Troiani, la liturgia ci invita a una riflessione approfondita, alla luce di Cristo risorto sui fondamenti della nostra fede e sul dovere dell’amore verso il prossimo: due caratteristiche che hanno distinto le nuove beate. L’episodio dell’apparizione di Cristo ai discepoli la sera della risurrezione, con il significativo particolare dell’assenza di Tommaso chiamato Didimo, è come un’illuminante catechesi rivolta alla persona umana, protesa con tutte le proprie facoltà alla ricerca della verità, nel desiderio di farne, se possibile, un’esperienza in qualche modo “tangibile”. Ai condiscepoli che, pieni di gioia, comunicano a Tommaso il grande annuncio: “Abbiamo visto il Signore!”, egli risponde che non è pago della loro testimonianza, e neppure della semplice “visione”; egli, per credere, pretende ed esige non solo di “vedere” il segno dei chiodi, cioè, i segni delle piaghe della crocifissione, ma di “toccarli” con la propria mano. Si direbbe che Gesù accetti la sfida, sgorgata da un atteggiamento di autentica e sofferta ricerca e non solo di autosufficiente sicurezza razionale. Otto giorni dopo, riappare ai discepoli: viene per offrire all’incredulo suo seguace le prove “tangibili” che questi cercava ed esigeva: “Metti qua il tuo dito e guarda le mie mani; stendi la tua mano, e mettila nel mio costato; e non essere più incredulo ma credente!” (Gv 20, 27). Davanti all’“evidenza” del Cristo risorto, che gli si presenta con i segni della sua donazione e del suo amore, Tommaso si arrende e pronuncia la mirabile professione di fede: “Mio Signore e mio Dio!”. Gesù prende atto di tale gesto del discepolo, ma proclama la beatitudine di coloro che “pur non avendo visto, crederanno!”. È la beatitudine riservata a noi, oggi qui presenti, ai milioni e milioni di uomini, donne, giovani, anche fanciulli e fanciulle, che nei secoli si sono inginocchiati e ancor oggi si inginocchiano in adorazione davanti a Cristo, ormai invisibile agli occhi, ma realmente presente nell’Eucaristia, per dirgli con gioiosa commozione: “Mio Signore e mio Dio!”. Con questa fede disarmata, limpida e umile, noi vogliamo accogliere il Cristo risorto, riconoscendone la presenza non solo nella realtà del sacramento, ma anche nella persona dei fratelli e delle sorelle, che si fanno incontro sulla strada della vita. 3. È quanto facevano i cristiani della prima comunità di Gerusalemme, la cui fede si esprimeva in maniera preminente nella “comunione fraterna”. Essi avevano “un cuore solo e un’anima sola e nessuno diceva sua proprietà quello che gli apparteneva, ma ogni cosa era fra loro comune” (At 4, 32). Essi volevano far scomparire le discriminazioni sociali, per formare una vera comunità capace di realizzare autentici rapporti di amicizia e di fraternità, fino alla compartecipazione e alla condivisione libera e liberante dei propri beni materiali. La loro era una fede che “operava per mezzo della carità” (cf. Gal 5, 6). Non fu esperienza che restò confinata ai primi inizi del cristianesimo. Oggi la Chiesa è lieta di poter presentare alla venerazione e all’imitazione dei fedeli due nuove beate, che nella loro vita terrena dettero testimonianza di una fede e di una carità, che possono ben dirsi “ricalcate” sugli esempi della prima generazione cristiana. 4. Die geistliche Botschaft der neuen Seligen Pauline von Mallinckrodt können wir in einem sehr aktuellen und konkreten Lebensprogramm zusammenfassen: vorbehaltlose Christusnachtfolge in unerschütterlichem Glauben; Liebe zu Gott und liebende Hingabe an die Unglücklichsten und Ärmsten um Christi willen. Mutter Pauline von Mallinckrodt war reich an natürlichen Gaben: ein einfaches, freundliches Wesen, Zuversicht und Vertrauen zum Nächsten, Zielstrebigkeit in der Verwirklichung ihrer Vorhaben; beständige Treue zu den Grundenscheidungen ihres Lebens - auch in Prüfungen und größeren Schwierigkeiten - und eine Opfergesinnung, mit der sie sich hochherzig und ohne Vorbehalte an alle zu verschenken suchte. Diese reichen Gaben, die Gott ihr so überaus freigiebig anvertraut hatte, wurden in ihr durch einen tiefen und ausgeprägten Glaubensgeist vollendet. Dieses Gnadengeschenk, das sie in der Taufe empfangen hatte, entwickelte sich wunderbar unter der Anleitung ihrer Mutter und ihrer Lehrerinnen und Lehrer. Sie wuchs in der friedvollen Umgebung einer Familie heran, in der Liebe und gegenseitige Achtung herrschten, in einem Klima, das dennoch nicht ganz frei war von stillem Leiden wegen der unterschiedlichen Konfession der Eltern: die Mutter, eine gläubige Katholikin; der Vater, ein überzeugter Protestant. Mit Hilfe der Gnade festigte sich hierdurch die Treue Paulines zum Herrn, indem sie sich mit dieser Situation auseinandersetzte. Es gab in ihrer Jugend jedoch auch eine kritische Periode, eine Zeit großer Qual voller Skrupel, Ängste und Unsicherheiten, die sie nur dadurch zu überwinden wußte, daß sie sich in tiefem und ständigem Gebet voll und ganz Gott anvertraute. Und Gott war ihr nahe und hellte ihre Seele mit einem solch klaren Glaubenslicht auf, daß es zu Recht eine besondere ”Gnade des Glaubens“ genant werden kann. Kraft dieser neuen gottgegebenen Sicht konnte sie ausrufen: Dieser Glaube durchdrang mich so klar und fest, daß ich ihm mehr als meinen Augen geglaubt hätte (Cfr. Autobiographia). Der Glaube machte aus Pauline, wie ein Zeitgenosse von ihr bezeugt, eine Person aus einem Guß, klar und durchsichtig wie das Licht und ebenso einfach (Cfr. Schlüter), so daß sie bereits mit achtzehn Jahren in eindeutiger Gewiß heit das Ziel ihres Lebens in einer besonderen Berufung Gottes erkannte. Ein bewußter und tapferer Glaube war es, mit dem sie Schmerzen, Bitterkeiten und vielerlei Prüfungen zu ertragen wußte und der sich in ihrer vollen und vorbehaltlosen Liebe zu Jesus Christus und zu seiner Mutter Maria zeigte, denen si sich vertrauensvoll und zuversichtlich überließ. Im Streben nach Gott und seiner größeren Ehre wuchs sie in der Gnade, indem sie sich immer wieder an den Quellen des Gebetes in einem tiefen eucharistischen Leben stärkte. Aus ihrer Liebe zu Gott entsprang natürlich und spontan die Liebe zum Nächsten. Mit aller Zärtlichkeit widmete sie sich den unglücklichen blinden Kindern, denen sie inneres Licht schenken wollte als Strahl des göttlichen Lichtes. Für diesen Liebensdienst um Christi willen gründete sie ihre Kongregation der Schwestern von der Christlichen Liebe. Zusammen mit jenen Kindern nahm sie sich dann noch weiterer Hilfsbedürftigen an; alle fanden in ihr und ihrem großen Werk Hilfe, Trost und vor allem Liebe. Dieselbe Liebe drängte sie dazu, für ihre Kongregation schließlich noch die Unterrichtung der Jugend hinzuzunehmen: Sie hielt diese für eine echte Mission, wie sie von den Erfordernissen der Zeit in besonderem Maße verlangt wurde. Kühn waren die Pläne der Seligen; aber sie wußte in stiller und demütiger Zurückhaltung die Stunde Gottes abzuwarten. Ihr Werk wuchs mit Erfolg, wenn auch unter fortwährendem Ringen und mit vielen Schwierigkeiten. In der Zeit seines besten Wachstums kam zugleich die Stunde eines zerstörerischen Sturmes in der harten Verfolgung unter den Gesetzen des Kulturkampfes. Aber auch hier zeigte Mutter Pauline ihre innere Offenheit für den Willen Gottes und war bereit und fähig, den Prüfungen zu begegnen und ihren Kreuzweg zu gehen. Mutter Pauline ist ein Lebensbeispiel. Der angstvollen Unruhe des modernen Menschen zeigt sie heute einen Weg zu innerem Frieden: mutig und zuversichtlich Gott im leidenden Bruder zu suchen. So ist ihre Botschaft aktuell, wie die Suche nach Gott immer aktuelle ist. 4. Possiamo riassumere il messaggio spirituale della nuova beata Paolina von Mallinckrodt in un programma di vita molto attuale e concreto: sequela di Cristo senza riserve e con una fede incrollabile; amore a Dio e amorevole dedizione ai più infelici e ai più poveri, per amore di Cristo. La fede e la carità brillarono anche nella vita di suor Caterina Troiani, fondatrice dell’istituto delle suore francescane del Cuore Immacolato di Maria. Chiamata dalla Provvidenza a lasciare il monastero delle Clarisse di Ferentino per recarsi con alcune consorelle in Egitto, ove attendere alla formazione umana e cristiana delle fanciulle di quella terra d’oltremare, ella accolse con piena disponibilità il disegno di Dio. Memore del voto, pronunciato nei primi anni di professione religiosa, di “vivere sempre da suddita e nell’oblio”, si dedicò con slancio missionario al nuovo servizio nella città del Cairo. Le stava di fronte un cumulo di miserie e di sofferenze, in cui sembrava rispecchiarsi una sintesi del dolore umano: schiavitù, fame, povertà, abbandono dei neonati e degli ammalati, sfruttamento ed emarginazione. Suor Caterina non si limitò a indicare agli altri quanto doveva essere compiuto in favore di quegli infelici. Come il buon samaritano della parabola evangelica, ella si fermò accanto a ogni fratello e sorella sofferenti nel corpo e nello spirito, porgendo amorevolmente la sua mano benefica e pagando di persona. Verso il prossimo, vittima del dolore, della malattia, della miseria, la sua carità non ebbe mai preclusioni: cattolici, ortodossi, musulmani trovarono in lei accoglienza e aiuto, perché in ogni persona, segnata dal dolore, suor Caterina intravedeva il volto sofferente di Cristo. Non per nulla la piccola suora, più che con il suo nome, era conosciuta come la “madre dei poveri”; e dalle donne del luogo, liberate dalla schiavitù, era chiamata la “mamma bianca”. Nemmeno il rischio della malattia e della stessa morte per contagio fermò l’ardire della carità di suor Caterina: due volte infierì il colera e in tali drammatiche situazioni la beata e le sue consorelle si preoccuparono soltanto di assistere i colpiti dal morbo. Qualcuna di loro pagò con la vita tale servizio di dedizione e di carità. Quando le opere da lei istituite sembravano prosperare in serenità, sopravvenne improvvisa la guerra del 1882, che parve travolgere tutto. Anche in tale circostanza emersero la fede luminosa, la fortezza indomita, la carità ardente della beata. Con incrollabile speranza nella Provvidenza, essa continuò a comportarsi in ogni circostanza secondo il principio a lei caro: “Diffidenza verso se stessi, fiducia in Dio”. La beata Caterina Troiani si è inserita nel servizio della Chiesa con uno stile proprio: quale attenta e fedele discepola di santa Chiara e di San Francesco d’Assisi, riuscì a unire in se stessa la vita contemplativa dell’una con l’apostolato itinerante dell’altro. Fu missionaria in clausura e contemplativa in missione, nella piena e totale dedizione al Signore e ai fratelli. 6. “Abbiamo contemplato, o Dio, le meraviglie del tuo amore!”. Alla luce degli esempi lasciateci dalle due beate, possiamo in verità affermare di aver contemplato le meraviglie che Dio continua ad operare, in particolare nelle anime aperte e docili alla sua grazia. La beata Paolina di Mallinckrodt e la beata Caterina Troiani ci siano di guida e di sprone perché nel nostro quotidiano itinerario diamo, come loro, una coerente testimonianza di fede e di carità. Texte 317 - 3000 Bucks, dude!

23/2/20 Palm Springs _ Aaron est venu me chercher à Hollywood Hills avec sa Dodge Motorhome, il ne m’avait jamais vue dans mon état normal, il m’a traitée de « real me » : « The Real You! » qu’il s’est écrié au milieu de la rue, yeux écarquillés cherchant à reconnaître La Bambina tout en chargeant ma valise de 23 kilos. Sa Dodge Motorhome est intéressante, elle a une sacrée gueule « 3000 Bucks » il m’a dit qu’il l’a payée, le « dude » 20 litres au 100 que ça bouffe cet animal Pas de ceinture de sécurité C’est perturbant Durant les deux heures de route, je me suis vue plusieurs fois éjectée du véhicule tête en avant, pare-brise ensanglanté, ultime performance, The End À cette vision morbide je renvoyais au monde réel par delà les vitres du véhicule un sourire émerveillé et niais comme pour conjurer le sort Si je crève comme ça, sur « feu Route 66 », ben ma foi j’aurais quand même vécu un beau panel de trucs, comblant un certain nombre de mes curiosités Bien arrivée à Palm Springs pour performer à la Modernism Week du 20 au 23 février J’ai fait Francine of the Desert dès le premier après-midi qu’on est arrivés à Palm Springs Une mémé handicapée à qui j’ai tenu la porte en quittant le Palm Springs Art Museum, éblouie par ma robe héritée de ma mère, elle même l’ayant héritée de sa mère, m’a souhaitée une longue vie. Elle a insisté, en me souhaitant que j’aie une longue, très longue, très très longue vie. Étrange scène me confirmant ma conviction que je ne vivrai pas longtemps Je ne lui ai pas fait part de mes doutes concernant ma durée de vie, à elle mourante sur un trotteur. Le lendemain j’ai rejoué Francine of the Desert Elle s’est retrouvée au volant d’une Cadillac de 1959, elle a ouvert un frigo immense, elle s’est reposée au bord d’une piscine, elle a dansé, elle a marché, elle s’est donnée en spectacle pour mon plus grand plaisir Aaron a été content des « footages » Le soir j’ai dégainé La Bambina, j’avais besoin de faire l’unanimité Les blondes ne font pas l’unanimité, Suspectes de je ne sais quoi Encore un mystère à percer La Bambina capte l’attention de tout le monde, comme d’hab’ L’animal que je suis au dessous d’elle savoure ces instants Je suis suffisamment prétentieuse pour les vivre comme des moments de gloire et de grand accomplissement artistique La Bambina danse sur le trottoir avec ses nouveaux amis enthousiastes et insouciants sur lesquels le temps coule comme une succession de caresses, du soleil puis de la lune, puis du soleil, puis de la lune... La Bambina est remerciée par le public qui la voit à 50 mètres alentours, les clients des restaurants sortent pour la voir, la saluent, la filment, et les musiciens lui offrent leur CD pour sa prestation Le lendemain j’incarne Barbara from Dallas, si je l’ai créée corporellement, c’est Aaron qu’il l’a identifiée, il a défini ses qualités, sa profession, son histoire, son état d’esprit Très intéressant de sculpter un personnage à deux cerveaux Il a dit « Barbara from Dallas, Texas » Puis j’ai répété plusieurs fois, « Barbara from Dallas, Texas » émerveillée en train de faire des selfies dans sa Dodge Motorhome Mon cœur palpitait face à ce nouveau personnage « Barbara from Dallas, Texas! » Alors il a dit : - Barbara from Dallas! That’s all! - Oh! I like from Dallas Texas, ca claque bien Il a dit : - No! Barbara from Dallas! It is better! J’ai dit ok! C’est lui l’américain, il sait mieux ce genre de trucs. Pour lui elle est fan d’équitation et de ses chevaux en particulier, elle a épousé un riche propriétaire, récemment décédé, duquel elle a hérité une fortune qui lui permet de voyager Elle fait la promotion de son cheptel en clamant son amour pour les chevaux Les gestes de ce personnage créent une danse très drôle que j’aimerais jouer souvent Ce sont des postures qui font rire Et moi j’aime faire rire Alors j’ai gambadé partout en faisant le cheval avec mon corps, mes cheveux et mes mains, et ma voix Courir dans la poussière et sous le soleil de Palm Springs, je me suis sentie vivre follement The Misfits à moi toute seule! Les Désaxés, j’en suis! Marilyn Monroe, Clark Gable and Montgomery Clift en moi pour jouer à être Barbara from Dallas Être filmée et encouragée par un autre artiste, extérieur à mon environnement habituel de travail, c’est très stimulant. Faut dire que ce mec bosse beaucoup aussi Le lendemain je dégaine à nouveau La Bambina dans une robe vintage dégottée vers 1996 chez Groucho à Toulouse Aaron me filme et apprécie mes délires instinctifs face aux architectures, aux humains, aux bagnoles, aux objets ou encore aux cactus J’assiste à des talks sur le design, l’architecture et la mode en sirotant du vin Le public rit aux blagues des différents intervenants sur l’American Way of Life with love. J’aime ça Sentir ce qui lie ces gens, comprendre de manière abstraite ce lien, sans comprendre avec précision ce qui est dit Mais ça me plaît de m’imaginer comprendre, et de m’imaginer faire partie de cette communauté Le lendemain, au bout de moi-même Tous mes fils internes tendus, prêts à rompre, j’ai fait l’Artiste à l’International Aaron m’a demandé son prénom « The International Artist! That’s all! » « Ok! Cool! » qu’il m’a répondu, en ajoutant qu’il n’y a pas toujours besoin d’un prénom, avec un petit air dubitatif tout de même L’Artiste à l’International m’a fait boire une bière, puis du vin blanc, elle m’a fait essayer des lunettes à 600$, elle aurait voulu que je les lui achète, puis elle a essayé des chapeaux, elle les voulait tous. Je lui ai pris les moins chers, j’en ai eu pour « 40 Bucks, gal’ ». Puis elle m’a fait essayer un manteau sublime à poils longs et rouges. Le prix? 2500 Bucks, dude! Elle m’a tourné autour comme si j’allais céder 2500 Bucks, gal’! Hou-hou! Elle a regardé le manteau, s’est replongée dedans, s’est caressée le caressant comme un animal, puis l’a remis sur cintre, dos voûté, tête baissée, puis face au miroir elle m’a réclamé à boire pour compenser Aaron m’a semblé très satisfait du travail effectué durant ces quatre jours. Dans sa Dodge Motorhome, on a fait le chemin du retour Nuit noire Éclairée par les incalculables voitures qui filent et doublent non stop par la gauche et par la droite sur les 10 voix de la l-10 ancienne Route 66 Éclairée par les bordures de routes dédiées aux zones industrielles où errent des formes humaines esseulées poussant des chariots. Depuis la l-10, ces errants mesurent 2 millimètres mais je devine leurs visages Ces errant-e-s ne sont même plus tristes, ils encaissent le temps qui coule sur eux comme le flot de voitures Continuer à vivre malgré tout

I’ve..

- Sized up the Amazon and hopped ships from Colombia into Brazil exploring the beauty of a simpler life and admired how differently people live (We city people have no idea)...

- Lived illegally in Brazil and almost became a resident thanks to Lula offering amnesty

-Snowboarded the French Alps and Purenees (& tore my rotator cuff when my board skipped on a rock at the bottom of a black diamond)

-Worked as an international courier to deliver motherboards twice to Guadalajara City, and film reels to Vienna for the Last Samurai- so healthy to get out!

- Flipped airbnbs for friends in Williamsburg & Bedstuy, and painted apts in Harlem and Bushwick when i was “freelancing”...

- Lived in a 3000SF loft in one of the last affordable live-work spaces in the Downtown LA Arts District that should have been landmarked- where we paid less than $1/SF- but were then subjects to Eminent Domain thanks to the City of Los Angeles and the monster machine of gentrification severing off our end of the building, widening the 1st street bridge so as to incorporate a lightrail- where my bedroom, kitchen and bathroom use to be

- Received a $500 tip and a glass of Cristal Champagne- and could almost pay my rent after working that night in Hollywood

- Jumped on a last minute light to Miami to deliver missing hardware (screws) for an installation project that needed to be finished b/c FedEX wasn’t working over the weekend- but got to visit my aunt & uncle for 3 days

- Sold a 5 ft. schooner ship sculpture I built from parts from 3 disassembled pianos (Wurlitzer & Steinway), which paid for January rent in a Bushwick loft and my trip back to LA to deliver to an inspiring collector.

- Drove from Dallas to LA straight in under 24 hours 4x- even breaking down on one of those trips only to be towed by twin brothers who helped replace my timing belt and got me back on the road to make it under 24 hrs. There ARE kind people out there!

-Drove from Denver to NY in under 24 hours only to arrive for my move and to watch the 2009 World Cup Final- Spain beat the Netherlands! Who needs sleep?! Naps are the best!

- Trekked the Salkentay trail for 5 days to climb Macchu Pichu & not only looked like a spotted cow (severely sunburnt & peeling in the face) but a map of constellations due to the 50+ bug bite trail left on me. All despite, what a TRIP!

- Volunteered at a school in Port-Au-Prince for 6 weeks only to understand how complex Haiti’s history, how so many live piled up in camps with no hope, children going hungry unless they make it to school, and how there’s discrimination even between shades of color / “blackness”

- Moved 3x in 5 months while in crutches due to a horrible soccer injury (nightmare) and resorted to messing around with graphic design and designing fake album covers in my sedentary stage- only finding a depressing job at a non-profit in Chelsea scanning medical documents of disabled children. Eye-opening to be temporary disabled working for the disabled.

- Climbed part of the Great Wall with both my parents (!!!) after talking about for more than 2 decades- Hello dreams!

- Watched my very sick pitbull/boxer Einstein slip off a chair, vomit blood, slip in it from exhaustion, and have a heart attack while my cat Zen intensely meowed and circled the scene. #HORRIBLE

- Worked as someone’s personal driver for 2 months driving them around in a Porsche Panamera 2015 ( It was 2014, and I realized I know more about sports injuries than I do about sports cars...and am more of an SUV/mobile locker kind of gal)

- Formally said goodbye to my grandmother - perhaps the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do. First it was the walker, then the portable toilet, the hospital bed, the wheel chair, the oxygen tank, creating an excel spreadsheet to organize her medication, and then writing her eulogy. They don’t make grandmas the way they use to.

-Fallen asleep on the train only to have my bag stolen with my laptop, external hard drive, camera and watch- only to get my laptop back (which no longer resembled mine) but working with an NYPD and Lowjack investnro- and informing them I had figured out that the IP address showing up thru Dropbox could be googled to locate the one of 2 addresses/buildings where my computer was being held hostage. Turns out the kid had bought the laptop from someone in Union Square- who needed $ for a suit to attend a job interview. My laptop was full of WIP cover letters...

- Been attacked by a guy with a knife in Bogota the night Obama won the election ( My English friend was more afraid I was going to be the #~!@#! out of the guy. I had thankfully just trained with an El Salvadorean boxing coach for 3 months only cuz my neighbor was dating him. He was also already training his son.

- Helped a lovely Russian lady with stage 4 cancer find an apartment rental in Bedstuy. She reminded me of my adopted Russian grandmother Helen (who spoke Chinese). It wasn’t easy jumping thru so many hoops, The lease signing was conducted bedside in a a Park Slope brownstone where her daughter had years before apprenticed with a painter. She had also just shaved her head. Stella invited me over for dinner twice while her daughter was visiting from London. Sadly, 3 months into her lease the Landlord wanted to sell the brownstone, so there were difficulties. I tried to visit, but saw her thru the window sleeping. 2 weeks after minimal & delayed responses and a text of “I’m dying”, the Listing Agent called me to give his condolences and to inform me she had passed. )o: #RIPDearStella

- Met a musician at a wine bar I was working at in Fort Greene, whom I later recommended to an Argentinian multi-instrumentalist to secure a collaboration and help produce a music video! (Scenes on Hancock St- behind where I lived, and recruiting my boss’ kids seen playing on the sidewalk, and a Turkish taxi driver friend’s friend #HELLOPOTENTIAL #JAZZHOP <<<”Cause there ain’t no stopping us...”
