I've recently reread the folk of the air series, and I'm almost certain that Taryn Duarte was heavily influenced by Lockes' love-talker (gancanagh) powers, whereas Jude wasn't, largely due to the fact that she had a geas of protection on her throughout their whole "relationship".

We know that she wasn't really into him. And yet Locke decided to introduce her to the "test of love" on the day of the coronation and was surprised when she wasn't desperate to be with him.

I'm pretty sure that has never happened to him before and that he fully planned on marrying Taryn, making Jude his mistress, and playing them for all eternity or until he gets bored of them.

( I've been hearing that tumblr is a very good place for nuanced convos in fandoms, and since TFOTA fandom severely lacks it everywhere else, I'm trying my luck here.

I love how Jude kissed Cardan the first time with the intention of humiliating him. this guy pushed her into a lake, kicked dirt in her food, did little to nothing when she was high on faerie fruit, and now he reveals it was cuz he has a crush on her and hates himself for it. And her knee-jerk response is to shame him by making out with him so he can feel how badly he wants her and how embarrassed he should be by it. It’s almost too girlboss to wrap my head around. And then she accidentally enjoys kissing him so whoopsie

Hot take but i don't believe Holly Black when she confirmed that Valerian was attracted to Jude. Cardan, however? Oh for sure.

Was he bigoted? Yep. Was he attracted to Jude and was upset at his own feelings that he was obsessed with bullying and even planning to downright murdering Jude? Um. Let's backtrack on that a bit :/

The hostile behaviour he had toward Jude felt more like obsessive bigotry to me. And maybe hints of jealousy and wanting to gain validation from Cardan and the others. I personally believe that he had a thing for Cardan and even if he suspected that Cardan might be attracted to Jude or not, Valerian was jealous of how much he paid attention to her (even if it was negative).

But my point stands regardless of whether Valerian was attracted to Cardan or not, he despised Jude. He hated her humanity. He hated how much attention she had from his own friends. He was being cruel and bloodthirsty all for the validation of Cardan and the others. And maybe even to get Cardan's attention.

So no, I don't think that Valerian had Jude's attention. It doesn't make any sense to me, even if he was attracted to her against his own will. To me, it sounds stupid. I really don't care if another boy was in love with Jude, it just throws me off. So that's why I'm choosing to ignore that.

But--- Valerian being attracted to Cardan? Now that's drama. And would make more sense than him being attracted to Jude.

i find it sort of amusing how the fae probably hate humans for not just their ability to reproduce quickly, but also spread around and colonize land.

And then, here comes the grand general w his human wife, whom now lives w him at his estate. but then years later here comes the grand general w two human daughters!

AND THEN, suddenly these human girls litterally own elfhame and its estates. Jude’s the queen of elfhame, so it’s her land, BUT Taryns over here w lockes estate that she got after she killed him. and since jude and cardan are married, she also just casually owns hollow hall too (technically).

like damn! you show those faeries the human way ladies!!

Sorry for the crosspost but going back to the cruel prince while still upset about ACOSF made me even more sad about nessian. If he had even once been this for Nesta, if he had shown that he wanted her presence, wanted her as she was, yearned even for her anger, I may have been able to accept them together. As it is, nessian is so dead to me, and I'm going to live in fanon.
