Because it was a complete and total shock when Mattheo made a better grade than you on your latest potions exam. He doesnt even show up to class half the time? Where the fuck does he get the time to study between all the ciggies hes smoking??

So fuck your life, because outside your door is Mattheo in a suit, holding a bouquet of flowers he knows you hate. He doesnt give them to you, tossing them out after you roll your eyes and nag at him.

Then onwards he takes you, an arm around your waist, walking you aorund Hogsmeade, and oddly enough the date doesn’t suck? He just keeps referring to you as his girlfriend, or his in general. He seems way too into this, to be honest.

He takes you out for a nice dinner, pays for everything, and honestly anxiety is chewing away at your stomach because its actually been a really pleasant night? When is the “worst part coming”

You actually stop him as he drops you off at your dorm, holding his arm. “You said this was going to be the worst date of my life?” “Was it not?” “No?” “Then since you enjoyed it so much, we should do it again sometime.” And he winks at you with all his skibity rizz.

And shit your heart is RACING on top of the blush spreading across your cheeks.

"I really love that you are the one knocking on my door for once," Alex says while he puts the jacket on. Henry grimaces. "But there's nothing to apologise or thank me for." He jabs his finger to the lift button and continues as they wait. "June's been known to lock me up in my room so I actually lay down and rest whenever I get sick. I go full on Rosa Diaz." Alex says it so matter of factly that Henry feels embarrassed for not catching the reference. His silence gives him away.  "The badass bisexual latina Rosa Diaz from Brooklyn Nine-Nine with whom I share a last name?" Alex explains when the lift arrives and the three of them step inside.  "I'm sorry.” Henry blushes and feels— something- about the fact that Alex is comparing himself to a bisexual character. A something he’ll certainly have to ignore for now before he spirals about it in front of Alex. “Haven't seen it." "We'll watch it sometime. You're so Amy-coded."

Where would you recommend starting, if someone wanted to start listening to Charli xcx?

OOOOOHHHH this is a good question.. (this is going to be so long i'm so sorry) (also i tend to recommend albums as a whole, rather than specific songs because that's how I typically listen to music in general) lemme look back on my own listening journey with charli xcx...

I was always aware of charli's music when I was in elementary and middle school. like Boom Clap and Break the Rules. And the songs she featured on like I Love It by Icona Pop and Fancy by Iggy Azealia. And then I was really obsessed with the song Vroom Vroom like 2 years after it came out (and the music video). So if you want to refamiliarize yourself or familiarize yourself with some of her hits then those are some classics. (i unfortunately only listened to her first album True Romance recently, so younger me had no idea about that.. fake tumblr user/tumblr girl stopthatfool...)

the first album of hers that I listened to all the way through was how i'm feeling now that she released during the COVID lockdowns. It was the one that had me listening to her more frequently other than just her hits that i was familiar with/listened to sporadically. I think that album is some of her best work and honestly one of the best albums I listened to/that was released in 2020. That album is so specific to the COVID lockdowns and to the time in which it was made, but listening to it now it doesn't feel out of touch, outdated or "old" because of it being directly made during COVID. Whenever someone makes artwork directly referencing and stating current events, there's a fine line of it becoming immediately outdated the second after it's released because the moment is already over (for example whenever a movie tries to reference a meme (ex. marvel with endgame and the fortnite scene), or when TV shows had a COVID season (ex. brooklyn nine nine's COVID season fell a little flat)) but with Charli xcx's COVID based album, I think it successfully navigated those issues that other artforms and media failed to do. how i'm feeling now is just a really strong album to me. It feels like an album, not just like a collection of singles with filler in between. Creatively, how i'm feeling now feels like a story and documentation of how charli feels and it's undeniably raw and artistically navigating cliches and without overly relying on COVID in general.

I would also recommend giving her album CRASH (released 2 years give or take after how i'm feeling now) a listen too. It's an integral album that informed her transition to her newest album BRAT which has been critically acclaimed as one of her best albums if not her best album so far. With CRASH and how i'm feeling now, BRAT feels like this perfect mix of balancing the honesty how i'm feeling now highlighted and CRASH's pop based hits. If both CRASH and how i'm feeling now are examples of charli feeling "restless" (as she herself describes) then BRAT is her finding the perfect middle and her finding her voice as an artist.

"Why is no one having a good time? I specifically requested it."

Here’s a thing: my husband used to watch a ton of tv, all the time. Always had something on in the background. But then he got sucked into TikTok and his attention span broke, so I’ve been watching most things myself.

He just put together a snack to wind down from his work day, and came back in for a glass of milk. I’m on the couch and as he swished by he said “I just turned on Brooklyn Nine-Nine”, which in and of itself was surprising, only to continue “and remembered he’s dead…” and I let out a wail I’ve been mostly ignoring. 

Andre Braugher, I’m so sad that you’re gone. Brooklyn Nine-Nine is one of my absolute favorite comfort shows, and I’m not sure how I’m going to stand it now, for a while. Captain Holt is iconic, you can’t watch that show and not fall in love with him. 

And now it’s just…sad.

Nine-Nine is another one of those shows I started watching religiously while it was airing on cable, the entirety of the reason being Andy mother-effing Samberg. I have been in love with him (and the Lonely Island, which we should talk about eventually) since that crazy man joined SNL and so nothing was going to tear me away from his randon sitcom. I came for him, obviously, but I stayed for everyone else.

Including, and mostly, Captain Raymond Holt. 

I’m not gonna lie, he might be the most realized, well-defined character on the show. The man has layers. Gay, black cop who finally becomes captain of his own squad. Deadly serious, married to a professor, proud dog dad, lover of rules, hard grudge-holder, extremely literal and blunt, with the weirdest sense of humor. 

Most of the best moments of this show involve Holt. There’s an entire scene wherein the squad is put on the night shift and it’s fucking with everyone’s relationships and someone suggests his bad mood is because he needs to  bone down with his husband. His reaction has me crying every single time.

He has a dance-off with a kid on the street. He goes undercover as a straight person and does it hilariously. He gets incredibly, heavily, disturbingly invested in the Halloween heist game Jake sets up each year. He creates a ridiculous balloon arch for a wedding and gets deeply attached to it, and is infuriated by the fact that everyone thinks it’s weird as hell. He has the most fantastic arch rival relationship with an old partner, to the point where he plans to deliver a scathing eulogy when she unexpectedly dies. He learns the choreography set to Salt ‘N Peppa’s “Push It” and performs it to distract Amy while she’s giving birth. 

It feels like a lot of characters on tv are two-dimensional, but good lord, Holt was in full technicolor, and it’s obvious the reason it works so well is because Andre Braugher was a master of his craft. He WAS Holt, for a lot of people, including me. No one else could have stepped in and created that man. 

Throughout the show, Jake treated him like a surrogate dad because his own father (lol at Bradley Whitford in that role) was a dumpster fire, and it was really sweet. He just wanted validation, and acceptance.

In the finale, he tells Jake, "On my first day here, I asked Jeffords to tell me about everyone, He told me you were a great detective, but the one thing you couldn’t figure out was how to grow up. Well, I think you’ve finally figured it out. Over the years, you’ve sometimes referred to me as something of a father figure, but I want you to know, if I had had a son, and he had turned out like you, I would be very proud of him.”

I have a dad of my own, he’s wonderful and I love him and we have a great relationship, but y’all, Holt can be a surrogate dad for me too. He can be one for everyone. He always had a pearl of wisdom and he supported the entire squad in absolutely everything, and he was just an excellent human. Who was FUNNY and multidimensional and just…dope. 

He’s one of those perfect characters. And they don’t come along that often. So I guess the point is, thank you, Andre Braugher, for bringing him to life, and giving us the gift that is Captain Raymond Holt. I’m glad we still have him, even if we don’t have you.

series summary: After what starts out as a fairly normal mission, you find yourself stuck in a time loop. Which would already be bad enough in itself if it didn’t also mean having to watch Bucky die over and over again.

welcome back everyone!! just a reminder that this is a reread of already published chapters, so if you’re new to this story, maybe don't start here. it probably won't make a lot of sense. please be aware that by clicking the read more you’re gonna see spoilers for chapters one and two 💚

twice upon a time – tl;dr:

in the flashback, set sometime during the blip, we see twelve meeting natasha and steve and offer her abilities to the avengers. after a short demonstration of her powers and (non-existant) combat abilities, she’s taken on as a new recruit. twelve accidentally breaks her own nose during training and reveals that her time powers don’t include the ability to heal herself, as she stays the same when going back in time.

in the loop, twelve panics but tries to get through the day again. she attempts to nap on the living room couch, but gets disturbed by alpine and bucky. she settles down on her bedroom floor, but gets yanked to the astral plane and berated over her creation of a time loop by stephen strange. during their third mission, bucky lightly hits his head when getting hit by the explosion and ends up getting shot again when twelve overcompensates for past mission mistakes. she tries talking to sam about the loop, but gets shut down. alpine follows her over to the other couch, making a nap once again impossible; the movie bucky turns on is eerily fitting for their situation. all the way through the chapter, bucky keeps asking her what’s wrong, but she evades his question.

finally!! our first chapter with flashback brackets!!! i’ve really been loving the structure of these because they allow me to give a little more context and background on the characters gradually instead of a long info dump as well as just lighten the mood a little. also, i just love writing nat and steve!! god, i miss them so much.

“And why would we want to have you?” she asked. As if she were interviewing you for a job. Which, technically speaking, she was.

there’s a lot of fun tidbits in this part of the chapter, but i love this one in particular. her nonchalance when meeting this powerful, terrified stranger is just so charming to me.

“Oh, great, am I volunteering?”

steve is … god, steve. sometimes the fact that this fic is canon-compliant (for the most part) absolutely kills me. that’s something i’ve had to wrestle with in every single flashback, and it’s just never getting easier.

back to the loop!! i didn’t talk about the mcfly thing last chapter and that’s mostly because i actually haven’t seen back to the future in many, many years. i do love them, though, and i feel like they’re something sam would enjoy, too. i constantly want to give him more to do in this story but instead i keep sending him off on cap duties. sigh. we love a responsible man.

So it appears you’ve gotten yourself stuck in some macabre version of Groundhog Day. Alright. Cool cool cool. You can work with that, probably. Maybe.

the most unsubtle nod to brooklyn nine-nine ever, but i’d completely forgotten i put it there and i love it. that makes it at least two references to this show over all of my fics now, and i’m probably forgetting something!!

“Did you just kick me?” “I wanted to see if you’re still alive.” “Horrible. I’m quitting. You can go spar with Bucky again.”

what can i say? i love their slightly different banter each and every time. it’s so funny because twelve still hesitates to call sam and bucky her friends in her inner monologue but at the same time—look at them. i love unreliable narration.

also, this is the chapter where i really start leaving gaps to fill in the rest of the day later. it’s just fun to keep some thing that are going to be repeating anyway open for now!! that brings us reveals as glorious as alpine, who couldn’t even feature in the first chapter even though i love her more than life itself. also, i have no idea where i got the headcanon that sam’s allergic to cats, but it’s simply a fact to me.

“What time is it, anyway?” “Thirteen twelve hours.” “Please stop just saying numbers when I ask you that.”

is this me making a dig at military time or the fact that it’s not used in the u.s.? who’s to say. also a fun little twelve reference before the nickname actually gets used in chapter!!

“Last dates played. Friday, July 4th 2025, 07:50 a.m. Playtime: forty-five seconds. Thursday, March 13th 2014, 02:49 a.m. Playtime: one hour, twenty-seven minutes, eighteen seconds. End of record.”

i was so proud of this little inconsequential easter egg at the time!! that date is the day of the winter soldier movie premiere, and i’m pretty sure the amount of times the song got played was the same as the amount of mcu movies that were out at the time the chapter got posted. this is an actually fun fun fact for a change <3

ooh, the astral plane and strange. i’m not gonna lie, i’m pretty sure i’m writing his character a little more sherlock holmesian than he is in canon, but sue me. both are smart assholes in their own rights, and it’s fun to have him and twelve snark at each other. they both just hate every second of being in each other’s vicinity, and i find that hilarious.

Third time’s the charm, right? About as charming as a kick to the face, you think as you find yourself delivering just that.

you know, sometimes "writing for yourself" just means line connectors that will make yourself snicker. and i think that’s beautiful.

Shouldn’t he insist on leaving?

ugh, i love this scene!! i love that no matter how hard she tries, other people (and bucky in particular) will just do things she doesn’t expect, and for reasons that are certainly what i’m telling you within the inner monologue. mhm. surely. (i know i said spoiler-free but i’m giddy. also you’re reading bucky fanfic. you must know.)

trying to tell sam about the loop and him not really taking it seriously here was certainly a choice. i’m not sure i love this when thinking about his character, but it had to happen this way for plot reasons. to be fair to him, he’s hungry and stressed, and the people around him are all weird (affectionate). give him a break fr.

“I just run cold.” “That you do.”

i’m obsessed with them, have i mentioned that? also, fun fact about spellbound, i’m never again mentioning movies i haven’t actually watched within a story again because i did end up watching it and one of the character’s initials were straight up JBB. i wish i could make this up. maybe i’m the one who’s stuck in a time loop. anyway. love alpine, love bucky knowing something’s up but not what it is.

have i mention that i pay attention to a lot of little details? because yeah. i do.

the reveal that twelve stays the same during her redos is probably one of the more essential ones!! i mostly wanted to include this because i haven’t really seen any other time loop stories do it (unless i’m forgetting something) and also because, well, drama is fun.

how it’s going

alas, chapter seven isn’t quite done yet. i’ve written around 2.5k for it, i think, but i find myself once again taking unexpected detours. it’s fine, though. the bonus chapter is mostly done, and it’s actually pretty short for a change. (because spoiler alert, chapters are only gonna get longer from this point. somebody sedate me.)

as you’ve probably seen in my schedule, next week is gonna be an off week for me!!! please manifest me meeting sam wilson in the parks as i will be on holiday this time next friday. which is a much more fun thing to do than getting stuck in a time loop. in the meantime, take care of yourselves and don’t do anything dumb while i’m gone (like getting stuck in a time loop). also please leave a comment on the chapter if you enjoyed it, come scream at me in my inbox etc etc 💚

Now, it's time to talk a little about every Brazilian's pride: our dubbing

If you are learning Brazilian Portuguese, you should really watch our movies, tv shows and soap operas (novelas). We have some amazing stuff out there and it's great to learn vocabulary and about our culture. But if you have a favorite thing that you like to watch, I highly recommend it that you watch it in Brazilian Portuguese, I guarantee you won't regret it.

In fact, we have such incredible voice actors that I make a point of watch almost everything in Portuguese (although I should start watching it in English or German now). Our voice actors are so good that sometimes they make a bad actor looking like a good actor (Gal Gadot I'm looking at you).

I like to watching specially comedies and animation dubbed. I think everything sounds funnier in Portuguese, mainly because they adapted things to make sense to us Brazilian or just because it's nice to hear it. For example, when they made Chilchuck from Dungeon Meshi say "Mas na hora do pegapacapá eu não vou ajudar ninguém não, hein". Brooklyn Nine it's a great example of what I'm saying. This show have so many reference to American culture that sometimes just flew over my head and couldn't understand it while watching, so the Brazilian dub just translate all of those jokes to our culture and it was a more enjoyable experience.

Also, I can't help but recommend, if you like Avatar: The Last Airbender like I do, that you watch this show in Brazilian Portuguese. The dub is excellent, Azula and Toph's dubbing are my favorite. You should really check this out!

To end this post, I can't not mention a specific thing that make all of us love the Brazilian's dubbing is that there's so amazing gems, especially in the animated movies. (Go watch Surf's Up in Brazilian Portuguese and thank me later).

The Rings of Power Should have been a sitcom

I love the second age and I feel like if it had been turned into a workplace sitcom like Brooklyn Nine Nine or the Thick of It it would have been incredible.

That’s the theme song that plays over an intro that shows all the characters in battle mixed up with going through there everyday life in court.

They could have a running gag of everyone being sort of terrified every time Galadriel comes to visit. Gil Galad scrambling to make it look like they have everything under control so she doesn’t decide to intervene. She is politically at least a few millenia ahead of everyone and has a tendency to talk to them like their exceptionally smart children. She is involved in power plays with everyone simultaneously and is usually winning.

The Gil Galad who’s the father joke is brought up frequently. Elrond seems to know something but he’s not talking. After several episodes it becomes apparent that Gil Galad hasn’t got a clue. Almost very week they will be trying to convince everyone that it’s someone entirely different. They once suggested Oropher.

Elrond refers to every single person by varying familial titles on different days. Some days he’ll start calling Gil Galad brother and people will be thinking, shit is our king a Feanorian, and the next he’ll be calling him uncle. He does this the most with the Numenoreans and makes them all very uncomfortable because why is this random elf acting like we’re at a family reunion? They generally think that elves just have weird diplomatic customs.

Elrond and Celebrimbor having really disturbing feanorian inside jokes that freak everyone out. Elrond just generally has a sense of humour that freaks everyone out. His occasional jokes about his childhood just make everyone more and more concerned because they really don’t know as much about him as they should. The aggressive throwing of knives at family trees doesn’t help.

The worst kept secret in Middle Earth is that Maedhros and Fingon were together. ‘Elrond you can’t let the minstrels play a song implying the high king and the leader of the Feanorians were fucking!’ ‘But they were!’ ‘That’s not the point!’

They keep trying to hide Elrond and Celebrimbor’s Feanorian loyalists in the closets whenever Galadriel’s around.

No one is straight. They are the queer friend group. Elrond and Gil Galad spend so much time flirting most people assume they’re together. It is occasionally alluded to that Galadriel may have had a thing with Elrond’s great great grandmother. This is never addressed.

On the rare occasion where they all work together they are unstoppable. Galadriel intimidates, Gil Galad charms, Celebrimbor knows a guy and Elrond is probably the heir to their throne.

🍌 In your opinion, what’s the funniest joke/reference/pun you’ve made in a fic?

I've made quite a few that I personally really enjoyed lol. They're a bit older now but I think I put some great ones into my Brooklyn Nine Nine fics, and my Last of Us ones I'm proud of for many reasons but I got some good jokes in there too, and managed to reference books etc in more oblique ways then "and then they read Whatever" which I hoped worked for the readers too!

"Typical, a man does this once and thinks he's an expert" from my most recent fic is also very funny to me. Let's mansplain pregnancy but it's about a trans character so there are layers.

(Like a comedian I crave validation so I would also love to know what parts any readers found funny)

🍒 What’s your favorite character dynamic to write? (Can be romantic or platonic, specific or general!)

I love a platonic relationship, especially if I can delve into it and expand it beyond "and they were just friends lol", especially if they blur the lines. Like writing Ellie and Joel interacting is a fun dynamic because they both view the relationship differently - Joel sees it as a familial one while I think Ellie views it as something that blurs the lines between dad/brother/friend.

🍉 Do you prefer to write short fics or long fics? Multichaptered works or single ones? Why?

I mainly write short-ish fics, like in and around 10 thousand words, generally single chapter fics. I like fics that are based around vibes or moments, but I want to challenge myself to write more multichapter ones with more elaborate plots!

Woman to Woman, lovingly referred to as the soul soap opera, was written by James Banks, Henderson Thigpen, and Eddie Marion. The songwriters offered the song first to Inez Foxx, who passed on it. “She didn't want to do it. She felt like the rap part in the beginning of the song was for a male artist, and a song like that with a rap would be better for a person like Isaac Hayes," James Banks told Soul Express. 

The song's recording took more than one session. But Bobby Manuel, who played guitar on the sessions, said, “The recording session (for Woman to Woman) was magical. We all knew it was a hit record. Everybody was really excited."  Shirley was nominated for a Grammy for Best R&B Performance, Female, but Aretha Franklin and Ain't Nothing like a Real Thing won that year. Millie Jackson, who was also nominated in the same category that year, told QuestLove on his podcast that Aretha should have been excluded from being nominated in that category because her recording failed to meet the qualifications.

Fun question! When running gags are done well, they definitely add dimension to characters, their relationships to each other and the world itself.

So, Community has a lot of running gags. I like 'shut up, Leonard!'

because a lot of the time in shows, it feels like only the main characters exist in an environment whether it's a school or a town and something like 'Shut up, Leonard!' makes a minor character like Leonard a fixture in the college and gives him a personality and a persona because we actually learn more about him and about the school through each 'Shut up, Leonard' which are also funny and/or clever.

For the same reason --- although this isn't really a running gag because it's only mentioned twice a few episodes apart but I'm including it ---

I liked how much the study group hated Shirley's friend Gary who we never see, like I don't think anyone watches the youtube videos I post but if there was ever a video you should watch, it's this one because the delivery of every character is hilarious

Also, I'm bending the rules again too but just because I really want to talk about the commitment to a joke where in season 1, season 2 and season 3 there's at least one reference to Beetlejuice and when Beetlejuice is mentioned a third time it's a Halloween episode and so an extra dressed as Beetlejuice walks by (the whole thing in the movie Beetlejuice is in order to summon him you have to say his name three times) and that's just high calibre writing I appreciate

Britta being a buzzkill is definitely a part of her character and a trait but people's exhaustion and exasperation every time she is a buzzkill makes it a running gag

Brooklyn Nine Nine

"Cool cool cool" which actually just started off as Andy Samberg trying to make people laugh and then the cast just decided to take it and run with it

(I also love that Community has a "cool cool cool" running gag with Abed)

but I love this running gag because as someone who also ends up saying very particular things that people close to me say because we spend time together and there's a familiarity there, the fact that the cast and therefore the characters just start picking this up from Andy/Jake really showcases that.

i dont know if rodda would write more for this series because it's pretty closed now. but there's still a part of me yearning for more. and i want so bad for vashti to have some agency and some redemption. she was the antagonist in a literary sense and she does have that White Woman™ vibes, but she's also just a kid and i dont think she's evil at heart. sod didn’t really end up going down the direction of exploring the moral greyness of people and your individuality as much, but like i can dream.

i feel like her parent/s were in her ear ever since she was born, fuelling a desire in her to win the apprenticeship and to be The Best. they nurtured her as a tool, but not as a person. not excusing her bullying and undermining, because that’s horrible, but does she know anything else? if her ‘superiors’ are not treating her with kindness and goodness, why would she treat her perceived ‘inferiors’ any differently.

anyway this post could be interpreted as vashti’s ambition. it pushed her to want the apprenticeship enough to cheat and bully. taking every advantage she could. on ship and off ship. take no prisoners mentality. belittling and dehumanising her opponents in her mind, clouding her judgement. similar to jasmine’s opponents in the rithmere games. a burly del-ignorant brute? a devious scavenging rascal? a poor shopkeeper’s daughter? vashti let her assumptions cloud her judgement, and now her enemies are bonded against her. she didn’t really have a chance.

but this post was about her parent/s when i drew up the sketch. i don’t know if her mother, irma, was as directly involved. the books reference her father, loy, much more often in meddling. so i dont know if she’s just like, his trophy wife or something like that and just let things happen warily, or if she held the same ambitions and was his accomplice. either way i would still direct blame on her, even if she was only indirectly responsible because i can’t believe that she was in the dark on the matter.

the vibes im getting out of this parent-daught relationship reminds me of that B99 episode where peralta and holt are talking about the kid graffiting police cars

Peralta: His daddy comes in and bails him out every time. He’s a lucky little jerk.

Holt: No, I wouldn’t say he was lucky. I feel bad for this kid. I mean, what kind of father cares so little for his son that he lets him get away with everything?

BROOKLYN NINE-NINE S01 E02

it’s not directly the same. but, at least to me, it’s clear that vashti is not seen as a daughter to be loved and led and encouraged to a prosperous future by them, but a tool and a key to a prosperous future for them. you know?

like bruh??? imagine. having the fucking audacity. i hope that in a world where vashti wins, she eventually learns that he doesnt and shouldnt have power over her and something she won. it doesnt matter that he raised her, that he taught her things she knows. not everything she has was from him, and theres room for stuff outside of him.

i. also forgot she had siblings because it’s never mentioned again except in that quote. but i guess vashti is always on the periphery anyway. but i was thinking that the other candidates are older than britta, who just scraped in at 15, but i dont have concrete numbers in mind lol.

as i was working on this i was thinking maybe vashti was 18. i cant remember if i really had reasons for that or if i chose that arbitrarily alskdj like i guess she might be more used to being composed and more experienced and stuff which makes her intimidating. but she can be younger and still act like that.

but then i was thinking about since she technically also just scraped in (but on the other end) and then the implications of that hit me in the face. like her parent/s were already on her case, but the fact that she just got in probably increased their desperation and longing, and it would’ve been even worse than previous years. the familiar anticipation was manifesting into a lustful grab for power. it was scary. it was overwhelming. there was nothing but a need to make them happy. it’s no longer about a personal accomplishment but a trophy to sate her parents’ hunger. and of course it wouldn’t last. and if they had a taste for something so big, they’d only demand more and more. where would it end.
