#the 3 new sources are emotion faith and imagination

Ok. I’m still trying to gather my thoughts and settle my hyperfixation after episode 3 of the Percy Jackson show, but one of my conclusions is that this is one of very few adaptations that actually understands the term ‘adaptation’ and furthermore what makes one successful.
On a fundamental level, understanding and respecting the source material is a must. You need to not just know the bullet points of the story, but you need to know the ‘why’s’- why does this story need to be heard, why do people like it, why does it stand out from the others in it’s genre, etc.
Second, you need to deconstruct the source material and piece it back together in a way that makes sense for the new format. Copy-pasting almost never works, since there will inevitably be discrepancies between the readers’ imagination and the adaptation that can distract from immersion.
Third, you need to provide something new. Why does this story deserve to be told in a different format? What can this add to the original themes of a story? What can we change to make the message come across more on screen? Will this dialogue really be as funny when it’s said out loud?
We’ve seen a lot of terrible “adaptations” of animation and books and musicals into movies/tv shows, and I think even among the better ones there is a dissonance between the desire to stay faithful to the source and the desire to make a good adaptation, with whatever changes that may necessitate.
I think while we’ve watched the casting of this series, the hints here and there, and final the premiere with bated breath, they’ve been playing the long game. They cast Walker as Percy before he was in the Adam Project. Many people expressed…unsavory…feelings when Leah was cast as Annabeth, but those of us that trusted the team behind this project- including the author himself- did our best to welcome her and were repaid tenfold with her performance in this episode particularly.
Most of the scenes in this episode were not at all how I imagined them in the book, but I adored it. They took what they were given and expanded on it. They created a mini-arc for the trio learning to trust each other. They gave Medusa a labyrinthine lair. Annabeth is a 12 year old walking into a convenience store for the first time in 6+ years with $200 in her pocket, of course she’s gonna buy as much as she can carry.
The love and care and artistry that went into this single episode brings me so much joy and gives me so much hope. Like I was already excited for a faithful adaptation, but seeing these characters come to life on screen, once you see their chemistry with each other and how they speak and push and pull at each other’s emotions, it has never been more clear to me the amount of care and foresight that went into this show.
Rick said that these kids are the characters he created and for like 2 years I’ve trusted that that was true, but today it was proven beyond the shadow of a doubt.
I am just…in awe.

Conservatism is baked into pro-fidelity adaptation arguments
Aka, what incorrect lessons the Percy Jackson and Avatar: The Last Airbender adaptations taught fandom, and why the Internet is mostly wrong about The Rings of Power.
I don't particularly like the film adaptations of Percy Jackson and Avatar: The Last Airbender, but it's not because they "changed things" (and it's certainly not for Annabeth's hair color.) They're bad films purely because they're bad films, lacking the original texts' (Riordan's books/the ATLA show) charm, personality, point of view, and humor. Crucially, they both lack the essentials of plot and characterization and contain ill-fitting humor, bombastic CGI, and appeals to "mainstream" popularity that didn't actually appeal to any kind of mainstream because audiences are slightly too sensible to fall for something that cheap.
But fandom as a whole, and a whole rash of individual fans, took the wrong lessons away from these failed adaptations. People started to complain solely about superficial changes made (Annabeth's hair, the poor/problematic ATLA casting) and came to the conclusion that if the adaptations were only more faithful to the source material, they would've made good movies. (Which is why Riordan and the ATLA showrunners now are so hellbent on proving their new takes will be faithful. Because the fans are feral and bloodthirsty about it.)
Which is wrong. Because films are films, not books/animated shows. The medium demands fundamental, structural modifications. Films have more compact run-times than books and animated shows, and different dramatic shapes. Films are made for a 1-sitting experience—for this type of heroic quest story, it's always a 3-act structure, play credits. The medium necessitates changes. (Since Percy Jackson/ATLA/ROP are TV shows, not films, I'll caveat that TV shows are structurally even more difficult. Not only do you need to balance season arcs and their dramatic shapes, you need sufficient dramatic push-and-pull on an episode-to-episode basis.) On this level, we can agree fidelity is, to some degree, a myth.
Going deeper, though, I argue that fidelity is not only a myth, but also an innately conservative argument that prioritizes "keeping things the same" at the expense of "making something actually good and worthwhile." Fidelity, of course, means faithfulness, but the only other place you commonly hear the word "fidelity" is in the context of marriage and relationships. Who needs to stay faithful? Husbands and... well, really, mostly wives, in the Christian cultural imagination. Why? Purity and sanctity, and freedom from sin, which sounds a lot like fandom purity culture and the Madonna/whore dichotomy transplanted into another realm. Yes, fandom has created a sanctity/sinning, Madonna/whore dichotomy for adaptations. On one hand are the Good and Pure Adaptations that do not stray from the Lord's course (the author's original text.) On the other hand we have The Very Sinful Whore Adaptations, like Rings of Power.
I know a lot of fans had a deep emotional whiplash to Rings of Power, I among them. I was hesitant because I don't trust large profit-driven corporations like Amazon and especially because I despise Bezos (and would support pirating all Amazon material, let's be real.) I was hesitant also because there was such immediate, widespread backlash to the costumes and casting and trailers, it was easy to jump on the bandwagon and nitpick details—backlash that took advantage of my vulnerable emotional state because of how much I care about Lord of the Rings. LOTR, both books and movies, was incredibly formative and important for me and my whole generation, and if it felt like this new adaptation would taint it—well, you weren't alone in thinking that.
(The ROP writers room, of course, operates independently from Bezos and corporate Amazon. But for those participating in the backlash, nevermind that there are hundreds and thousands of dedicated artists and artisans on the show! We hear Amazon, we have an instinctive response that makes us unable to conceive of the show as an artistic endeavor. Still: the writers and artists on ROP are just that, writers and artists. With Amazon's money, they hired some of the best people working in the industry, and from all accounts there wasn't all that much corporate interference. Or... at least about as much corporate interference that Peter Jackson and every other director and writer deals with.)
(Also pause to note that there was immense and similar backlash to the Peter Jackson films as there currently is to Rings of Power. Even think back to the Hobbit trilogy backlash not one decade ago. This is the exact same phenomenon, we just find ourselves on varying sides of the equation depending on our age and experience.)
I'm sorry to say that everyone who jumped on the ROP backlash bandwagon before the show was even released was manipulated and taken advantage of by alt-right, pro-culture-war trolls, tradcaths, and bad actors. I include myself among those duped by the toxic discourse, because as late as March of 2022 I was telling friends I didn't want to hear a single thing about the LOTR show, I was so mad at it already. Mind you that we'd barely had posters at the time, let alone any real information about the show. It was suspect and evil already in our minds.
How do I know it was trolls and not genuine, good-faith criticism driving the response? Firstly, because pop culture divisiveness is a well-known, extremely effective tool of Russian troll farms to further divide democratic nations. There's an excellent academic paper by Morten Bay at USC about how Russian trolls utilized trolls spreading conservative backlash to Star Wars: The Last Jedi to stoke political division. Guarantee you that ROP casting, Little Mermaid casting, Marvel casting, and every other liberal/conservative divide in pop culture has been used similarly by Russian troll farms to stoke American political division. It's not even up for debate—take a look at Bay's research to see the numbers. ROP is a great target for trolls because it's so important to so many people.
Second, conservative Catholic publications published many reviews and thinkpieces that are highly critical of the show. Imagine my surprise then when well-meaning liberals and progressives on Twitter and Tumblr were sharing these pop culture critiques and fully agreeing with them. Unfortunate times when your own baked-in, uninterrogated need for textual fidelity turns out to be a tradcath line of thinking.
Finally, you have only to look at Youtube and Instagram comments on anything ROP-related to see that the vast majority of anti-ROP vitriol is racist, sexist, and/or tradcath and otherwise fascist in nature. I've read a lot of comments because I lack self-control and the complaints really come in one of two flavors: fidelity arguments, and straight-up nasty racism. Or both. Unsurprisingly the two are married, because both types are yearning for an unpolluted, faithful, and ultimately conservative take on Tolkien.
I liked Rings of Power a lot once I actually watched it, though it took me two or three episodes to break through the unfortunate bandwagoning and negative conditioning I had internalized from social media responses. It's not entirely "faithful", which turns out to be a wonderful thing because there are things Tolkien never acknowledged that the show ought to. Like the degradation and dehumanization of the Uruk race. Or the potential for ostensibly noble Elves like Galadriel to dance on the edge of corruption because of her thirst for vengeance. Or (at least I'm crossing my fingers and hoping that they make good on the hints of this idea in Season 2 and beyond!) how Númenor's fall and destruction is an ultimate test of religious faith for the Faithful because how could Eru have allowed it? We could've had a Rings of Power that ignored those themes and subplots because they're not in Tolkien's texts, but it would've been a loss; they're the most compelling parts of the show.
Okay, I promise I'm leading towards a conclusion. It's this: misdirected Percy Jackson, ATLA, and Rings of Power complaints were born from fan culture transposing Christian purity culture onto adaptations, with extreme and emotionally-charged backlash against adaptations that aren't considered faithful. But adaptational fidelity is both an unrealistic goal and an inherently conservative one. Politically and artistically, progressives should be the first to want interesting, new, surprising, compelling interpretations of favorite texts. That's how new ideas and perspectives can proliferate, sparking conversation and ideas and more forward-thinking instead of stagnation and just repeating the same stories endlessly. (Funny how everyone complains about endless sequels and remakes, but the second adaptations make changes people also complain. Can't win!)
But fan attitudes are also revelatory in that they show how much fandom is only superficially progressive. Tolkien fans—even the most liberal—are desperately, slavishly loyal to the Catholic politics of a 20th century white male author (one who, let us never forget, said his Orcs looked like the ugliest Asians [author's disdainful paraphrase.] and the Romantic, Christian-y, black-and-white morality and aesthetics of Peter Jackson's films. ROP's girlboss Galadriel was a funny jokey meme, nevermind that most of the commentary is disgustingly misogynistic; even liberals don't like girlboss Galadriel because, I suppose, ethereal perfect queen Galadriel with an absolutely static character arc is a more compelling character to them? (Unsure why angry rageful Galadriel isn't a feminist favorite on this website—oh, except there's an obvious answer: people's progressive credentials are shallow and uninterrogated, and we don't like angry women who are in the wrong and need to change.)
And then there's Bronwyn, who I've seen criticized for not being a consistent character (as if she should only be a mom or only a leader or only a lover. I think it's realistic and very cool for her to contain multitudes.) Or Míriel, last queen of Númenor who's bound to die a tragic death—I swear it made me want to grind my teeth into dust when I read that this was bad and racist of the writers because she's a woman of color and her storyline involves her getting deposed and dying. As if it doesn't make complete, heart-wrenching sense for a women of color to desperately fight a losing battle against corrupt enemies. As if women of color don't also deserve to be tragic, noble heroines. I think it goes back to the fact that these women contain multitudes, an immense upgrade from Tolkien's women, who with the notable exception of Eowyn are pretty shallow characters.
I almost went and made a caveat here that it's okay for you to dislike the show if you want. Which, I guess, sure, I'm not making decisions for you. But I suspect that if people interrogated their dislike for ROP's Galadriel, Bronwyn, Arondir, Míriel, and other divisive characters, they might find that they're regurgitating what the tradcaths and trolls taught them to say, because the tradcaths and trolls have perfected the art of making you angry on the Internet. Who really benefits from LOTR remaining a 20th century relic of stagnant politics? Traditionalists who want Tolkien to remain pure, white, and Christian.
I do have two main criticisms of Rings of Power, which are the "The Elves will take your jobs!" line (dumb) and occasionally the pacing (needs work.) And other than the casting of Arondir, Bronwyn, Disa, Míriel, and other important characters with actors of color, it's not a particularly progressive narrative in and of itself. But the Internet backlash stems from the sad fact that while we were all happily ensconced in our safe, superficially progressive fandom spaces, we were all duped into the insidious conservative rhetoric that fidelity is good and ROP's a bad adaptation because it's faithless. Frankly, I'm all for faithlessness, provided it's faithlessness in outdated and harmful politics. Let's take back ground from the tradcaths and trolls, and not let them pre-ordain our decisions for us.

Navigating Fear and Doubt When Answering the Lord's Call: A Guide to Finding Strength and Courage
Receiving confirmation from the Lord can be a profound and life-altering experience. It's a moment of clarity, a divine whisper guiding you towards a path that may be unfamiliar, challenging, and even frightening. Yet, despite the sense of purpose it brings, it's natural to feel overwhelmed by doubt and fear. What if you're not capable of doing what He wants you to do? What if following His path means losing cherished relationships? How do you navigate these conflicting emotions and find the courage to move forward?
Acknowledge Your Feelings: The first step in facing fear and doubt is acknowledging their presence. It's okay to feel scared or uncertain when confronted with a significant life change. Allow yourself to sit with these emotions without judgment or resistance. Recognize that it's normal to experience doubt, especially when stepping into the unknown.
Turn to Prayer and Meditation: Seek solace in prayer and meditation. Take time to connect with the divine and seek guidance from the Lord. Share your fears and concerns openly, knowing that He listens with compassion and understanding. Trust in His wisdom and His plan for you, even when it feels daunting or unclear.
Remember Your Strengths and Abilities: When doubt creeps in, remind yourself of your strengths and abilities. Reflect on past experiences where you've overcome challenges or accomplished goals. Trust in your capabilities and believe that the Lord has equipped you with the skills necessary to fulfill His purpose for you. Have faith in your resilience and ability to adapt to new circumstances.
Seek Support from Loved Ones: Don't be afraid to lean on loved ones for support during this time. Share your thoughts and feelings with trusted friends, family members, or mentors who can offer guidance and encouragement. Surround yourself with people who uplift and inspire you, reminding you of your worth and potential. While it's natural to fear losing relationships by following the Lord's call, remember that true friends will support you in your spiritual journey.
Trust in Divine Timing: Trust that everything unfolds according to divine timing. Embrace patience and surrender to the process, knowing that the Lord's plan unfolds in mysterious ways. Be open to the possibility that the path ahead may not be easy or straightforward, but have faith that it leads to growth, fulfillment, and spiritual alignment.
Take One Step at a Time: Break down the journey into manageable steps and focus on taking one step at a time. Instead of overwhelming yourself with the enormity of the task ahead, focus on the present moment and the actions you can take today. Trust that each step forward brings you closer to fulfilling your purpose and aligning with the Lord's will.
One powerful scripture that speaks to the importance of obedience is found in
Proverbs 3:5-6 (NIV): "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight."
This verse reminds me that true obedience requires trust – trust in God's wisdom, His plan, and His unwavering love for us.
Biblical Guidance: Throughout the Bible, we find countless examples of individuals who demonstrated unwavering obedience to God, even in the face of fear and uncertainty. Abraham obediently followed God's command to sacrifice his son Isaac (Genesis 22), knowing that God's promises were greater than his own understanding. Moses, despite his initial reluctance, obeyed God's call to lead the Israelites out of Egypt (Exodus 3), trusting in God's provision every step of the way.
Obedience as a Source of Strength: In moments of doubt, obedience becomes our anchor – a source of strength and reassurance amidst life's uncertainties. By surrendering our will to His, we find peace in knowing that His plans for us are far greater than anything we could imagine.
As Isaiah 41:10 (NIV) reminds us, "So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand."
Navigating fear and doubt when answering the Lord's call is a deeply personal and spiritual journey. It requires courage, faith, and trust in the divine plan. Remember that it's okay to feel scared or uncertain, but don't let fear hold you back from following your spiritual path. Lean on prayer, meditation, and the support of loved ones to find strength and clarity in times of doubt. Trust in your abilities and the Lord's guidance, knowing that He walks beside you every step of the way. Embrace the journey with an open heart and a willingness to surrender to the divine will, knowing that His plan for you is greater than anything you could imagine. - Sharri Van Zyl

I've always been open about this but not by much. I just keep it to myself due to ridicule from friends or family, idk how the public would react. I was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia in 2009 when I was 19 years old. My auditory "hallucinations". Would drive anyone mad being that I've been dealing with it for 16 yrs now. It's always been like a quest on just trying to find out where it comes from or who it is, the source of these disembodied voices in my mind. Whether spirits, angels, someone on the other side of the 🌎, or demons cuz they be lurking. And now into my 30s have evolved into visual hallucinations. A mystery that I wanna know too. There is a research facility at the U of A here in Tucson that involves psychic activity research that I would love to check out.
I held it together while dealing with hard challenges in life, it's difficult to cope with. At first the voices were so loud that music with headphones wasn't able to drown it out. But as I grow, & come closer to God, it becomes a gift and easier to control. Since the bad was washed away, it's become a part of me. I have been baptized 3 times in my life so far cuz sometimes being a good girl I slip lol & nobody is perfect. However after each baptism I get this euphoric feeling and I know that I'm surrounded by angels and I feel like the veil has been lifted it's really cool. I believe I'm connected somehow to Him & the angels. But the darkness still lurks around every corner. I feel evil presences I even hear them talking to me but of course I talk back with attitude when I probably shouldn't. Things tapping on my closet door I even imagine being dragged under my bed. I've saved my mom's apartment and it just made things worse for a time. I saw advice from Christian friends and even my pastor and they have told me that when you try to get rid of a demon they just bring more especially when you're not qualified to cleanse.
The more difficult the challenge, the more unhappy I am, the more I want to die. But God has gotten me through a lot, He can get me through it all I know it. But I also know I can't just play into the devil's hands, let his demons win messing with my head & emotions, I know better now
Its a long story, since 09 the bad took over but owned it since discovering my faith. 😈 may still wanna get at me & hate me w/a passion, which is explains my terrible life he must hate my ass. But God's power & light is so much greater, & protected w/the ✝️ on my chest, 😈 can try 😒
" paranoid schizophrenia" by doctors. But I know what I'm hearing. No friends or family ever believes me or wants to hear it, so I suffer in silence. It's just a matter of finding out what it is & the source. I have foresight in precognitive dreams ie Deja Vu since I was 4, Im sure alot of people have that but for me it can be frequent & never make amy sense as its visions of random happenings in my life weeks or months in advance. I have rare visions whilst awake of which God shows me, like when I meditated & spoke to Him before my babtism which I thought was pretty cool. I've been known to have telepathy with others & has been a cool experiment with other spiritual friends, & automatic writing to where the pen writes itself while holding it loosely.
"Schizophrenic" since 09 but Supernatural things happening for quite a while, & just evolving since. I'd get help for this issuse but idk how or where to start, sorta self taught. Doctors just want me to suppress it, but my new doc said if it makes me happy I don't have to.
It is conflicting with my faith cuz I know the Bible says beware of psychics & magicians in the same verse. We aren't supposed to know all mysteries in the universe cuz faith. But what happens when one of those mysteries involves you, wouldn't you wanna know? What if God chose u for something? What if it's a miracle?
And what if it's not exactly psychic activity per se. Cuz all God's children are prophets of the Lord. The signs are happening now of the end of days & the children are seeing visions of the end, I had 1 myself. When you're childlike u inherit the kingdom of heaven. He's warned us plenty of times.
Maybe it's easier than we think. Maybe, it doesn't have to be so complicated. Maybe He's easing us into it & Revelations isn't as horrific as it seemed in the Bible, but did its job into putting the fear of God into me lol. Life's too short, but what do I do with it, where do I go from here? After all the hell I've been through, & I'm still at entry level jobs with just customer service options. What if, more than 1 Angel is here, more than 2 or 3, chillin til it happens, & we live our lives while we can before it's all gone. I've met Gabriel, he's a pretty awesome dude, curly blonde hair, walks with a staff & like his wings are too heavy for him lol. Just doing his thing being the messenger of God, however flawed like us all.
We just don't know. Maybe we'll never know, & even with our faith we still try to peice it all together like a puzzle til it fits, as humans do being naturally curious. My grandpa was a code breaker in the war, I kinda take after him that way. I'm very wise & I do like to decode in a way. We just gotta Believe, be ready for anything & to go home.
How did I start talking about my issuse & gifts, & it ends up becoming Biblical 😂 that always happens I get riled up & the holy spirit kinda just takes over lol. Yo just Believe aight. Trust me, I've experienced miracles myself, He keeps me afloat. Yes I may come off as crazy, but a lot of girls are technically lol
Mark 9:23
Must add we have free will & it shouldn't condemn us regardless of some choices, if God has a purpose for us let it be. Bible tho it's all truth, is outdated, they wrote it from during that time & how they could describe things from that period. Jesus took in misfits like us ✝️
He understands us completely. I don't like to say idolize either regarding celebs, it's adore or is a role model. Cuz of the outdatedness of the Bible I personally just like to focus on the stories of Jesus or Revelations, psalms & Proverbs is good too. He loves us so much ✝️
The start of this post I was crying so hard 😭 like I usually do due to severe depression. But now I'm as light as a feather, now I feel so much better ty God. My past has broken me quite a bit & even my family sucks so much that I pray for a new 1. My name partially means "high" & I wish I has bud rn lol.
Origionally this was on twitter however I realized that it doesn't belong there because it's too long. Made for a blog anyway I have a bad habit of typing too much. I was working on a book & like an idiot I lost all my things in Vegas including my flash drive with my life story on it, that's not finished yet. But I knew I still had it on my laptop at home. Vegas would make for some good chapters lol gotta get around to writing again.

The Sacred Waters: Rituals for Cleansing and Purification
In the tapestry of human spirituality, water emerges as an eternal symbol of life, purity, and transformation. Its sacredness transcends cultures and religions, symbolizing the universal quest for purification and renewal. This article delves into the profound spiritual significance of water, exploring its role in rituals for cleansing and purification, and offers practical tools to integrate these ancient practices into our modern lives.
The Spiritual Essence of Sacred Waters
Water is more than a mere physical substance; it embodies the essence of spiritual renewal and divine grace. Across various traditions, sacred waters are revered as channels through which divine energy flows, facilitating spiritual awakening and cleansing. This reverence is rooted in the belief that water holds the power to wash away impurities—both physical and spiritual—restoring a state of harmony and balance.
1. Water as a Divine Element
In many spiritual traditions, water is considered a divine gift, a primordial force that sustains life and nurtures the soul. It symbolizes the fluidity of existence and the boundless nature of divine love. In Hinduism, the Ganges River is revered as a goddess and a source of spiritual liberation, while in Christianity, the act of baptism signifies a new birth through the cleansing waters of faith. This sacred perspective on water underscores its role as a bridge between the material and spiritual realms.
2. The Transformative Power of Rituals
Rituals involving water serve as potent tools for transformation, guiding individuals through processes of spiritual and emotional cleansing. These rituals often involve immersing oneself in water or using it symbolically to wash away sins, negative energies, and emotional burdens. The act of cleansing with water becomes a metaphor for the deeper inner work of purifying the mind, heart, and spirit.
3. The Symbolism of Purity
Purity, as symbolized by sacred waters, is more than a state of cleanliness; it represents a profound alignment with higher spiritual truths. In various traditions, the purification rituals with water signify a return to one's true essence—a state of purity and innocence. This alignment fosters a deeper connection with the divine and encourages the release of attachments and impurities that hinder spiritual growth.
Integrating Sacred Water Rituals into Daily Life
To harness the transformative power of sacred waters in daily life, one must approach these rituals with intentionality and mindfulness. Here’s a practical toolkit to guide you in incorporating water rituals into your routine:
1. Morning Rituals of Purification
Sacred Shower: Begin your day with a mindful shower, using it as a symbolic act of cleansing. As you let the water flow over you, visualize it washing away any residual negativity or stress from the previous day. Embrace the water's refreshing energy as it revitalizes your spirit and prepares you for the day ahead.
Hydration with Intent: Drinking water with mindfulness can also be a form of ritual. Before taking a sip, hold the glass in your hands, and set a positive intention for the day. Imagine the water infusing you with clarity, focus, and vitality.
2. Evening Cleansing Rituals
Bathing with Purpose: Create a calming evening ritual by adding a few drops of essential oils or natural herbs to your bath. As you soak, visualize the water drawing out any accumulated stress or negative energy. Allow the experience to bring you a sense of peace and relaxation before sleep.
Cleansing with Saltwater: Prepare a saltwater solution by dissolving sea salt in water. Use this solution to cleanse your hands, feet, or face, imagining it absorbing and neutralizing any lingering emotional or spiritual residue from the day. This ritual can be particularly effective during moments of emotional turbulence.
3. Weekly Purification Practices
Water Meditation: Set aside time each week for a water meditation practice. Fill a bowl with water and place it in front of you. Gaze at the water's surface, allowing its movement to draw your focus inward. As you meditate, visualize the water purifying your mind and soul, bringing you deeper insight and emotional clarity.
Ritualistic Washing: Perform a ritualistic washing of your hands or face with sacred water (e.g., water from a natural spring or a blessed source). This act symbolizes the release of accumulated stress and a renewal of your connection to divine energy.
4. Creating Sacred Water Spaces
Altar of Purity: Designate a small space in your home as an altar for sacred water. Place a bowl of water on the altar, and regularly refresh it with intention. You can also include elements like crystals, candles, or spiritual symbols to enhance the sacredness of this space.
Natural Water Offerings: Whenever possible, engage with natural bodies of water, such as rivers, lakes, or oceans. Take a moment to offer gratitude and respect to the water, acknowledging its role in your spiritual journey. This practice fosters a deeper connection with the natural world and its sacred energies.
5. Integrating Water into Prayer and Meditation
Blessing Rituals: Use water to bless objects or spaces in your home. This can be done by sprinkling a few drops of water while reciting prayers or affirmations. This act infuses the space with purity and divine energy.
Visualization Techniques: During meditation, visualize yourself surrounded by a protective, cleansing aura of water. Imagine this aura washing over you, purifying your mind, body, and spirit, and creating a sanctuary of peace and clarity.
Looking Ahead
The sacred waters of spirituality offer a profound gateway to cleansing and purification, both physically and spiritually. By incorporating rituals involving water into your daily routine, you align yourself with the divine essence of purity and transformation. Embrace these practices with intention and mindfulness, allowing the sacred waters to guide you towards a deeper connection with yourself and the divine. Through the timeless symbolism of water, experience a renewed sense of clarity, balance, and spiritual awakening in your life.

Orbital Station Scene Analysis: Part 3
Lmao here we go again. Ready to fall even deeper down the rabbit hole that is this scene with me!? This one scene functions simultaneously as my source of joy and depression and I watch it more than I would care to admit. So, naturally, I have even more to say about it! It’s going to be long. Sorry.
Part 1- https://tearblossom.tumblr.com/post/645095661644251136/scene-analysis-this-is-just-what-i-personally-feel
Part 2- https://tearblossom.tumblr.com/post/645776311115186176/i-was-thinking-some-more-about-the-final-scene
In this one, I’ll be going into more detail explaining the emotional mask that I believe Takemura is trying so desperately to keep on during this scene (and undeniably fails at several times, with it coming off entirely upon the scene reaching a certain pivotal moment) and also pointing out the instances that I feel the mask slips occur. Honestly, it’s pretty easy to tell for reasons that I will explain. I’m going to reiterate the fact that I am not a facial expression/body language expert. This is just one human being looking at another human being and trying to figure them out. This is just my personal interpretation of this scene. Prepare yourself for many, many screenshots and gifs. Also, I will be using the same video sources as the other two posts because I don’t have my own footage.
https://youtu.be/ra-Ij1KU8r4
https://youtu.be/PUmQqVOq5oY
I failed to mention before the reason that Takemura even had to put up the cruel facade in the first place because I didn’t want to state the obvious and insult everyone’s intelligence. We all know the reason but I’ll just say it here anyway: Arasaka.
Arasaka is listening to Takemura’s every word so he literally cannot say shit to V that would hint at any sort of affection for him/her and absolutely nothing that would indicate any growing uncertainty in said corporation. Words mean nothing here. He has to speak through his eyes and expressions because that is all he has to offer, the only cards he has to play. That is why the meaning of this scene can be so easily missed and flies over so many people’s heads. I do not fault anyone that may have missed this on a first playthrough or even those that are still unaware of it whatsoever because Takemura is very, very convincing at first (his face becomes an open book once the contract gets brought out but we’ll get into that later) and besides, to truly understand something that involves emotions as complex as these caused by equally as complex reasons or anything involving subtext really, takes multiple viewings to truly appreciate.
In summary, what I believe is happening here is that during the entire scene up until the contract gets brought out, his mental state is constantly teetering on the edge of a cliff so to speak. He is trying so hard to fight his sentimentality and control his emotional responses not only to V’s misery and pain but also his own wavering faith in Arasaka because they are watching, listening, and monitoring. And he succeeds extremely well at first but it gets harder and harder for him to maintain the mask. The closer he physically gets to V, the harder it is to pretend, to hide. His eyes alone betray him on several occasions but eventually the whole facade just crumbles and he falls. And when the contract comes into play is when he truly, honestly looks at V and the communication through his eyes really begins.
Here is the key thing- it is the most important visual clue to understanding when things happen: When Takemura is feeling any doubt or his emotions begin to overwhelm him or he fears that they might, he promptly averts his eyes to get himself under control and readjusts the mask that has slipped.
He looks away from V during these moments!
(Just to clarify, I don’t think that every single moment in the scene that he looks away from V has this deeper meaning behind it. When people talk it’s completely natural for them to turn their heads, avert their eyes to look at other things, etc. These are just some moments that particularly stood out to me as signs pointing to my little theory.)
Okay...let’s start deciphering this conflicted, broken mess of a man.
Scene starts. Takemura is fiddling with the Rubik’s Cube. He puts it down. Expression cold as ice.
mask on full display in all of it’s glory
They talk about Saburo being back in the body of his son and have this exchange of words:
V: “Saw Saburo Arasaka’s back. In Yorinobu’s body.”
Goro: “Yes. Justice has been done.”
And then it happens for the first time...
(Could this be...doubt perhaps? Has justice really been done?)
Moving on- he walks over to stand behind the chair across from V, telling them of their imminent death.
Goro: “I will be blunt - the surgery did not help. You will be dead before winter.”
And then he proceeds to make this face immediately after...
(Lovely, isn’t it? Just full of sympathy. His mask game is strong. But don’t worry though because V wins in the end BIG TIME.)
Understandably, V gets very upset upon hearing this news.
V: “How... how’s that possible? Arasaka’s got the best and the brightest.”
And then something happens again. Whatever could it be, I wonder!
But wait, there’s more!
(He couldn’t even wait until he finished talking before looking away! It’s getting more difficult for him to look at V with a straight face every second! Also, his expression here is the most broken looking yet.) :(
He must not reveal what is hidden behind this emotional wall that he’s worked so hard to build up specifically for this meeting because the room they are speaking in may just as well be made of glass with Arasaka’s unrelenting gaze, an ever-present entity, on the other side of it. He will do so soon though, when he offers V salvation. The contract raises the stakes. The rules change. He feels the wall breaking and there isn’t anything he can do about it and he knows it.
IT’S CHAIR TIME, CHOOMS!
He looks away another 6 TIMES! Leaning more and more over that edge. Feast your eyes...
IT’S CONTRACT TIME, BABY!
Oh, shit!
It’s happening!!
He does look away here but there’s no mask on when he looks back...only despair.
It’s gone.
TO SIGN OR NOT TO SIGN
The disguise is off now. From this point onward, Takemura looks at V with his true feelings on display. This is where the ability to read the emotion portrayed solely through one’s eyes really comes into play because even though he’s not trying to hide anything anymore, he still can’t say what he really wants to say. We have to feel it through his expressions. His thoughts are so loud during these final moments of the scene that we don’t even need words to know what he’s saying.
REFUSE TO SIGN
SIGN
HOLY GRAIL MOMENT!
(I’m literally going to copy and paste what I have in my part 2 analysis about this section because I explained my thoughts on it about as well as I am able to there and have nothing else to add. My apologies for repeating myself but I feel the exact same way about it so it still applies here.)
These reactions make perfect sense because we’ve always known that he cares deeply for V and never stopped. He just couldn’t hide it! But even with this treasure trove of emotional mask slips and unintentional displays of affection, I still wasn’t sure exactly how deeply he cared for V. In other words- if he was actually in love with V or not.
Is he already in love or is he still in the process of falling in love? Is it just a friendly love? (hell no! I knew that was definitely not the case but I still had to ask just so I could cross it off the list!)
And then the two of them walked to the door and said their parting words.
V: “Gonna see each other again?”
Goro: “I believe we will.”
V: “So… see you.”
Goro: “Visit me in Kagawa - I will show you what is real food.”
And then…
he proceeded to make these faces…
HOLY
SHIT!
(The mask isn’t just gone now- it’s burned, splintered, shattered, exploded in a million pieces, disintegrated!)
This man just had the biggest revelation of his entire life: the realization that he is in love with V. These are looks of love and I will not be convinced otherwise. I’m not a facial expression expert or anything, only stating my humble opinions here, but are you seeing this!?
He realizes the truth and it catches him so off guard that he has to look away. He contemplates these newfound feelings and tries to sort them out in the few seconds that he has left with V. And he does. He accepts them. He welcomes them. The gentle, knowing look he gives V when he looks back at them is saying just this.
He also knows that he is now fucked because his love for V is going to complicate things so much more than they already were. Now that he is fully aware that he is in love, these feelings are going to directly conflict with his duties to Arasaka later if a situation arises that places V and Arasaka on opposing sides and I think we all know that is most definitely going to happen at some point.
And now he has to see the love of his life die and just leave this place and go on with his day. Damn. This is turning into one of the saddest love stories I’ve ever seen. Something major is going to happen in the dlc that is going to force his hand one way or another: V or Arasaka? I hope that Arasaka somehow fucks up so bad that it makes his choice easier but my heart breaks imagining the amount of conflict and torment that await him.

I can't believe it's over.
Don't get me wrong, I am extremely excited for Critical Role Campaign 3, and have been for months, but last night when the finale ended it just hit me hard.
I have poured more time into these characters than I have any other. The length of Critical Role means that it's been over 500 hours of watching the party grow and change and overcome challenges and face defeat. Most shows you don't get to see that much screen time of the same characters. It's natural to get more strongly attached to this story than any other I've seen.
But also, Critical Role has been a huge coping mechanism for the past couple years. I started Campaign 2 not long before my grandfather passed away. I caught up this past September, a year later, on the reveal that Molly was gone from his grave. Soon after that, my area plunged into strict restrictions, and I was cut off from my friends. My mental health plummeted. Those close friends cut ties with me. Critical Role was there every week, giving me a reason to get up on Friday mornings and have some semblance of a schedule, even when my classes and practicum put me on leave for my mental health. I don't need that weekly reminder anymore, my practicum (which I have now returned to) keeps me busy and I am starting a new full-time job in a few weeks, but it's been nice to have something to look forward to.
The characters themselves have been extremely important to me as well. There was a time I related strongly to Caleb Widogast, feeling the guilt for the person I was in the past and the way I hurt people, brainwashed by forces who told me it was right. Jester Lavorre and her loneliness, relying on her imagination to pass the time. Fjord's crisis of faith as he severed ties with Uk'otoa and built a healthier faith with the Wildmother. Caduceus' reminder that faith does not have to be toxic and harmful. Seeing Beau and Yasha in one of the first fictional canon wlw relationships I have seen since realizing I am queer. Yasha's sense of loss over her wife. Beau not living up to her parents expectations. Veth doesn't have anything I specifically related to, but her humor and compassion helped make the group what it was. They have given me a source outside myself to process immensely difficult emotions and remind myself that my past and my hurts don't mean I am undeserving of love and compassion.
Of course, Critical Role is no longer my only show of this caliber. TAZ was the first DnD show I got into and I still loyally listen. Unprepared Casters launched at a time that could have been my darkest, but gave me something new to focus on and pull me towards the light. Dimension 20 is incredibly therapeutic (hello Kristen Applebees) and I have so much content to catch up on, I'm not even finished Fantasy High yet! And of course, I still have so much of Vox Machina to watch in the gap until Campaign 3 begins. I'm only at the Whitestone arc. My heart is not empty, but it is still an emotional goodbye.
I'm really happy with how the campaign ended with all of them. They all got endings that demonstrated their character growth. None of them are alone and hurting the way they were at the start. They have people surrounding them, and they visit one another often, even if they've gone their seperate ways. They are bringing change to the world, leaving it better than they found it. I am so incredibly proud of them and agree this is the best way to end off.
But I'm also going to miss them so much. I'll miss seeing them every week. Of course, there will be one shots, and the Mighty Nein Origins comics, and maybe someday they'll even animate a show like they are doing with Vox Machina. They are still very present in my heart and mind, and will always hold special places there. But this is still goodbye and I have never been good at goodbyes.
So goodbye, Mighty Nein. And CR cast, I can't wait to see what awesome shit you pull out of your sleeves next!

WRITTEN CHAPTER
an - everyone say thank you atsumu <3
-
y/n shuffled reluctantly over to her door and slowly opened it to reveal a concerned looking atsumu with a plastic bag in one of his hands.
nothing was said between the pair as y/n moved out the way to let him in. he placed the bag down on the coffee table nearby and turned to the girl. still nothing said between the two, atsumu pulled her into his chest as y/n sobbed quietly into his t-shirt.
after 2 minutes of y/n quietly hiccuping and allowing her tears to fall, atsumu pulled away and looked down at her sighing.
“ya know, ya really worry me sometimes.”
y/n could only nod slightly as she wiped away the tears remaining on her cheeks as she finally registered the plastic bag on the table.
“what's that?” she mumbled gesturing towards the coffee table.
atsumu smiled slightly and picked it up to bring to the larger dining table.
“samu couldn't sleep till he felt like he did somethin for ya. believe it or not, he’s just as worried as me and everyone else. i had to force shouyo and bokkun not to follow me.”
guilt strung through y/n’s chest as she apologised quietly before sitting down opposite the pro player.
“don't apologise, its understandable, i’m just glad ya even opened the door for me.”
“i know you would've stood there all night if i didn't.”
atsumu smiled towards the athletics trainer and began to take out the contents inside. osamu had cooked multiple types of onigiri. ones he knew atsumu liked and ones he knew y/n liked.
the two ate in a comfortable silence as atsumu allowed the girl to gather her thoughts. the last thing he wanted to do was pressure her into talking to him about what she was thinking and feeling. he knew she would eventually tell him anyway he had all the time in the world for her to tell him.
10 minutes of a slightly warmer atmosphere between them, y/n sniffled and turned away.
“y/n?” atsumu reached over softly.
“no -shit. i-i’m sorry. this is so pathetic i shouldn't even be crying over this, i should've seen it coming from the start.”
ah so she was in the stage of self blame.
“y/n, none of this was your fault okay?”
the girl didn't care at this point and let her tears flow down her cheeks freely as she turned back to face the artificial blonde.
“yeah b-but if i’d just maybe gotten through to him better or maybe just i don't know -broken up with him, none of this would've happened!”
the setter watched as he let y/n let her emotions out. he didn't plan on riling her up. he needed her to get out whatever she was holding in so he could get through to her on a clearer mind.
“y/n, listen to me.”
stopping her quiet sobs for a moment, y/n looked up at a very genuine looking atsumu.
“i get yer a people pleaser and you’d rather take responsibility when somethins not even yer fault but, none of this was yer fault.” atsumu watched as y/n visibly relaxed at the sound go his voice.
this was a start.
he sighed and took her hands into his one and gave them a light squeeze.
“but, i don't believe this was oikawa’s either.”
y/n’s eyes widened slightly as she opened her mouth to object but atsumu didn't give her the chance.
“ah- i know ya probably think i’m just sayin that to stop you from arguing anymore but listen to me.”
the girl relaxed back into her chair, and nodded slightly for atsumu to continue.
“i know ya don't want to look at the picture, in fact its probably the last thing yer gonna wanna look at, but from what it looks to me, its one-sided. ya can tell he’s clearly uncomfortable and in shock.’
y/n frowned slightly trying to remember the awful photo but her memory was so blurred from the strong emotion and endless tears she couldn't actually remember oikawa’s expression in the photo.
“he still met up with her though.”
atsumu sighed and ran a hand through his slightly messy hair.
“yeah but personally i think he did the right thing. i know its gonna be hard to see things from his point of view but, he handled this well. sure, he wasn't flawless when it came to communication with ya but ya gotta give him some credit for going out his way. he has a lot going on right now and the last thing he probably wanted was a twitter war between his fans, reporters, her fans and herself. seeing her in person was probably one of the best ways to make it clear he wanted nothin to do with her.”
y/n didnt speak for a few moments as she registered what the boy in front of her had just said. yeah it was easy to get angry at how the situation had turned out but was that really all oikawa’s fault.
“atsumu-” y/n began with a shaky breath.
“i get that you’re trying to help me but what you don't know is that he tried to turn this on us. he accused me of cheating with you even though his only source of evidence was fake tabloids that have obviously reached for any material they can to feed off our names. like i said to him, how can he accuse me of cheating when he has no evidence but there’s actual evidence of him with another girl and he’s insistent i believe that he’s been faithful to me.”
atsumu raised an eyebrow to this. oikawa really read those stupid tabloids? they were obviously fake, hell, the same reporters had even written a few tabloids linking him to sakusa much to the latters disgust.
“but is that picture really evidence? i mean, from what it looks like he’s not into it and she’s the one initiating it. i’m not sayin what he said was fair but he’s probably frustrated and panickin. i’m not tellin ya to forgive him right now, but try to talk to him again when you've got yer thoughts together a bit more. it’s not fair to argue with him while yer both under a lot of pressure and emotions. i know for a fact that boy loves ya and ya know it too, ive never seen such a sappy and gross couple before whether yer like it or not this isn’t somethin yer gonna break up over.”
y/n hated to admit it but atsumu was right. maybe she had been a little unfair to pounce at oikawa straight away and hardly give him the chance to explain fully what had happened. had she been stupid enough to forget that oikawa struggles with stress and pressure and was prone to breaking down when things got to much.
a new wave of guilt washed over the girl as she closed her eyes and brought her head down to her knees.
“i feel awful now, oh my- i don't even want to imagine how he’s feeling right now fuck.”
atsumu stood up and crouched down in front of the now panicking y/n.
“look at me.”
glassy eyes stared into atsumu’s.
“we’ll try and get ya to meet him tomorrow, even if ya talk over the phone or somethin, but not tonight, it’s late and yer both need to rest yeah? i’ll stay on yer couch tonight but ya should get ready for bed and try to sleep.”
y/n thanked her lucky stars that she’d been blessed enough to have someone like miya atsumu storm into her life.
she nodded and shuffled to her room to get ready as atsumu wandered over to the couch with a satisfied smile.
after 5 minutes, y/n came back to bid the setter a goodnight and an offer to return back to his room.
“nah, don't wanna leave ya just in case ya wake up stressed or somethin, i’ll be here i’m not going anywhere just call me if ya need me.”
y/n smiled and gave the setter a tight hug.
“thanks tsumu. you’re a lifesaver.”
“i know.”
the girl laughed slightly and pulled away before muttering one last good night to the boy who nodded and waved back smiling.
things had been rough today sure, but atsumu had managed to force her to see things from oikawa’s point of view and even take majority of the balme off of him. she was still angry sure, but things were different now. the anger totally directed towards oikawa had been redirected to herself and sakai but y/n could live with that.
the same way oikawa promised to fix things, y/n made a silent promise to herself that she too would fix things. she just had to wait for a new day to do it properly, the worst had passed all she could do now was move forward and the girl decided to take her first step that very second as she grabbed her phone.

[15:20]
🎄 Day 12 of the Christmas project 🎄
You lived in the beautiful city that was Vancouver, Jacob’s hometown while he was working very hard in South Korea. You couldn’t explain how much you hated loving a man that was thousands of miles away from your home, but you couldn’t see yourself breaking up with him. Jacob was your precious bean, your first love that has been living in your heart since the first day you laid your eyes on him. Sharing too many memories and still loving each other made the situation a hundred times worth going through being so far from him. Yes, you missed his scent, his kiss, but you somehow knew that he’d stay faithful and never break your heart.
Being in this type of long-distance relationship was hard because you either had to wake up at the crack of dawn or stay up late to get to talk to each other. It was getting kind of troublesome because it’s been months since you last saw him in the flesh, you were dying to see him again. And so was he. He was dying to feel your skin, your hugs and overall your presence. He just wanted to shower you with love and kisses to make up the time you had wasted being so far away from each other. On an innocent call at the beginning of the month, you had brought up the Christmas subject and Jacob heavily sighed.
“Love, I have no idea if I’ll be able to make it home for the holidays,” he said in a whisper and your heart shattered. You had hoped that his company would be kind enough to let him fly back home in Canada to celebrate Christmas with you and his family, but now that he mumbled those words in an apologetic voice, your hopes were completely crushed.
Since then, the FaceTime calls between you and Jacob were sadder, felt heavier when you ended them on the verge of tears, sometimes breaking down as soon clicked on the red button on your screen. Jacob was also hurt that he couldn’t see you soon, hating when he heard your voice wavering when you bid him goodbye, but he held his emotions back just for you. It was already hard enough for you, and he knew that if you saw him cry, your entire world would just collapse.
From the day where you had learnt about the sad news, mopping around your house became your new hobby, unable to get back up on your feet as you now knew that you wouldn’t see your boyfriend for another month, adding it to the other five before this one. Your parents didn’t understand your sudden change of behaviour, scared that you might have broken up since you were this sad. The last time they saw you this down was when you had gotten out of your previous relationship. Your worried mother sweetly asked one night if you were still with Jacob, to which you said yes, and she sighed in relief.
“I’m glad you’re still together. I know how important he is to you,” she said and her words involuntarily brought the tears back in your eyes. You sadly smiled at her and try to change the subject, as you always did when they mentioned the young man. They didn’t say anything, but they had a chat together saying that they should try and take your mind off your worries.
Today, you were over Jacob’s parents’ house to spend some time with his family since you were getting bored being home alone. They had sweetly welcomed you in their home, claiming to miss you as it’s been five months that you last saw him, as well as their son. They also missed him deeply, so with his mom, you decided to go Christmas shopping to think about something else and have a fun time together. As you were about to go home since it was over 5 pm and you needed to get there on time for dinner with your family, you realised that it was heavily snowing outside and that you couldn’t drive home without taking the risk to get into a car crash. After a quick phone call, your parents allowed you to let you stay over Jacob’s house after calling your boyfriend’s parents, who didn’t mind having you over for the night.
After watching a good comedy film that Jacob’s mother had chosen, you wished his parents goodnight and went to your boyfriend’s room. Your eyes linger around the room for a while before closing the door behind you, sadly smiling as your eyes fell on a picture of the two of you hanging above his bed. You deeply sighed and turned to his wardrobe, taking a sweatshirt and a t-shirt of his to wear for bed, his laundry and scent completely drowning you in a comforting embrace, but at the same time, you couldn’t hold your tears back because you missed him so much. Instead of naturally falling asleep as you had hoped to, you took one of the pillows against your chest to mimic his body, imagining that you were holding your boyfriend instead of a bag of feathers.
The thing that his parents hid from you was that they didn’t go to bed as you thought they’d do. They went in their bedroom at the same time as you did in Jacob’s, but waited the hour you had needed to fall asleep to quietly go back to the living room, being on the lookout for their son’s arrival. Jacob was supposed to arrive tonight, surprising you as he got to fly back home. However, due to the snowstorm, he had to land at another airport, where the snowstorm coming from the north hadn’t hit yet and took a taxi to his house. Instead of arriving at 8 pm as he had planned it, where he was supposed to walk in and surprise you with a back hug, he arrived near 3 am, welcomed by his tired parents in his warm home.
After quickly eating some leftovers, he spent a bit of time with them but soon went to bed as he was tired of the flight, and they were exhausted and relieved to have waited this long to see him again. Jacob quietly paced upstairs and locked himself in his parents’ bathroom to take a shower. He discreetly creaked the door open when he was freshly out of the shower, carefully making his way in his bedroom, blindly searching for a t-shirt and a pair of underwear in his wardrobe. Once he was ready to go to bed, he carefully lifted the covers and spooned you, kissing the back of your head before falling asleep in the following second.
A few hours later, you wake up with a source of warmth coming from behind you, an arm wrapped around your waist. The pillow you had fallen asleep with was laying on the floor, having discarded it in your sleep for something else. You couldn’t process the situation you were currently into, taking you a few minutes to realise what was happening. Everything finally clicked in your head after you pinched your forearms several times to make sure that you weren’t dreaming.
You turned around on the bed and held your boyfriend with all the strength that you had, giggling as tears appeared in your eyes, flooding your cheeks and Jacob’s t-shirt at the same time as you felt a wave of relief rushing through your veins. Your boyfriend woke up to the sensation of humidity against his chest and someone crying. Realising that it was you, he opened his eyes and lovingly held you against him as his movements were still laced with sleep.
“J-Jacob,” you mumbled between sobs, your fist clutching the front of his t-shirt as you couldn’t stop the feeling of joy from making you cry happy tears. “Y/N, love. I missed you so, so much,” he said as he rubbed your back with one hand while the other was at the back of your head, pressing your face further against him. “I love you,” you whispered as you looked up, and Jacob’s heart felt warm as he could finally see your face a few centimetres away from him and not through a screen.
He pressed his forehead against yours, your nose brushing, a huge smile appearing on his face. You wrapped your arms around your neck as you enjoyed this beautiful moment, wasting no time in capturing his lips in a kiss, Jacob feeling all the months that you’ve been patiently waiting for him to come back to you.
“I love you too,” he mumbled as you pulled away from each other, breathless. “Welcome home, Jacob,” you mumbled with a huge yet tired smile on your face, your life suddenly feeling brighter and complete.

What Are The Key Characteristics Of Good Spiritual Direction?
Dear Father John, What are the key characteristics of good spiritual direction?
There are three ways to answer this question, depending on the point of view.
From the point of view of the person receiving it, spiritual direction is an extremely useful (many would say essential) help for growing in holiness, which is the same thing as growing in one’s communion with God, which is the same thing as growing in authentic wisdom and happiness. Having a spiritual director is like having a coach: they keep us objective and accountable, warn us of pitfalls, encourage us when we feel weak or discouraged, help clarify confusions and doubts, and make sure we are working intelligently in our efforts to know, love, and follow Jesus Christ more each day.
However, spiritual direction is no substitute for grace and faith. God’s grace, which normally reaches us through the sacraments and through prayer, is the source and nourishment of the Christian’s new and amazing life in Christ. Faith is our docile and active acceptance of, and collaboration with, God’s grace. Grace is supernatural nourishment, but faith is the exercise that turns that nourishment into growth. From this, we can infer the key characteristics of good spiritual direction:
1. Regularity: We should meet or communicate with our spiritual director on a regular basis, not just when we are in a crisis, or when we feel like talking. Monthly spiritual direction is a good periodicity, though for some seasons a short spiritual direction every fifteen days is useful.
2. Sincerity: A patient going to the doctor because of stomach problems would be foolish to talk only about his headaches and backaches. Just so, by holding back from the spiritual director our moral, emotional, relational, and spiritual struggles or failures, we are handcuffing the director and wasting everyone’s time.
3. Docility: We need to work hard to follow the spiritual director’s guidance. Otherwise, again, we are wasting everybody’s time.
From the point of view of the spiritual director, this interaction is an opportunity to share the experience and wisdom that their own walk with Christ has given them. It is also a chance to marvel at God’s work in the lives of authentic Christians. The spiritual director is not just a consultant, but a brother or sister in Christ, a fellow saint-in-the-making. The joys and sorrows, triumphs and failures of the directee are felt deeply by the director, but at the same time, the director knows that he is only an assistant coach — the Holy Spirit is the primary protagonist in everyone’s spiritual growth.
Good spiritual directors see their work as helping identify obstacles – behavioral or mental habits, confused ideas, undetected temptations – that are keeping the directee from moving more quickly towards greater love for God and neighbor. But the director cannot remove the obstacles. Only God and the directee can do that. This is one of the reasons that it is not necessary for our spiritual directors to be perfect. They just have to be good instruments.
From the point of view of the Holy Spirit, spiritual direction is a cause of great joy, because it gives him more room to work. God understands human nature – after all, he invented it. And so he understands how much we need human companionship in our spiritual journey. When St Paul had his life-changing vision on the road to Damascus, the Lord said to him, “Get up now and go into the city, and you will be told what you have to do” (Acts 9:6). Sure enough, God sent Ananias to visit St Paul on Straight Street, and Ananias began to help St. Paul understand what God was doing in his life and how he should respond. That’s how Jesus does things, because that’s how we need him to do things. And so, when someone takes the humble step of faith to receive guidance from a spiritual director, the Holy Spirit rolls up his sleeves and gets to work.
This third dimension is what makes spiritual direction so much more than mere personal coaching. If self-help is like running laps around an indoor track, growth in holiness is like hiking through the Alps. Jesus has a lot more he wants us to see and do than we can imagine. By deciding to let ourselves be guided in spiritual direction, we are telling Jesus that we really do want to want what he wants.
Yours in Christ, Father John Bartunek, LC BY: FR. JOHN BARTUNEK, LC

Alright because clearly I haven't spammed my blog with enough posts about the Mandalorian, here are my thoughts written out.
The finale has left me very conflicted. The simple fact of the matter is there won't be a resolution to this confliction until after Season 3 premiers and I see what they're doing with it from here. It's in a very raw and tentative spot for me, because it could very easily go bad from where they left it, but upon further-further thought, I've moved beyond being largely disappointed and into more of a "I hope to God they do it right" stage.
Initially, I was thrilled with the episode. I, being mostly distant from Star Wars minus the original 6 movies (which I'm by no means obsessed with) and this show, absolutely did not call that Luke would show up--or R2, lol. Grogu's tender touch of Din's helmet, asking to see his face? Destroyed me. It was a very cathartic ending and an emotional wrecking-ball. But even in my temporary euphoria, I remember being confused as to why we didn't get to see the moment when Din and Grogu were reunited.
Then I thought about it some more, and I became...much less pleased. Why didn't Din ask to go with Grogu and Luke (or at least ask where they're going)? Why did he voluntarily give him up so easily? Why did he take off his mask in front of a room full of people and a literal stranger, thus seemingly turning away from a tenet of his Creed? I was frustrated that the narrative allowed these things to happen when the issues could have easily been avoided by having a reunion scene with Grogu and Din alone before going back to the main room and by adding a couple lines of dialogue. This left me worried that Grogu's story was over, that Din was no longer going to follow the religion he has thus far steadfastly adhered to, and that the next season would be spent having him become the reluctant ruler of Mandalore (another man-becomes-leader-against-his-will story when literally all he wanted, as he stated several times, was to save his son. And he just lost him). I felt that the show used fanservice to cover over the fact that they simply didn't have a narratively satisfying ending.
Looking at it again, not all of my issues are resolved, but I understand a bit more of why they did what they did with the story arc. In all honesty, for as much as I treasure the father-son bond between Din and Grogu, the whole plot of the show thus far has revolved around Din finding a Jedi to give Grogu to. Without that "transaction" actually occuring, the previous two seasons would have felt largely pointless. (Well, isn't the real point of the series about Din learning that Grogu is his son and that he doesn't have to give him up?) That's what I'd thought, but really, if that was the plot of the show, it should have ended after season two (with some changes to the ending). Din should've kept Grogu, and that final moment of "No, he's my kid, and he's staying with me," wouldn't leave anywhere else for things to really go, so the show could end with the "dawn of a new day" feeling of potential (where will they go from here?) and that would be curtains. It would work wonderfully as an ending, and I would have been happy with it, but we have another season (which I'm happy about). This means that the plot has to continue to move forward, and that also means honoring the plot that you've already set in motion.
Additionally, I'd like to emphasize what I've seen some people write about: ultimately, it was Grogu's choice to leave. Din refusing to let him go would be acting counter to all of what he had been trying to do--he was bound by Creed to deliver the child to one of his own kind, and that is what he did. Not only would Din refusing to let Grogu go ruin the trust they had established by denying him his choice, and also effectively invalidate the sacrifices he made on his journey (although he learned to see Grogu as his son, many of the sacrifices he made came as a direct result of attempting to fulfil his quest to deliver him to the Jedi, so refusing to do so would render those sacrifices useless to some degree), refusing to let Grogu go would also mean Din would be turning his back on his Creed. He delivered Grogu safely, and let him choose (as he chose on the Seeing Stone) to go with the Jedi.
And if Din were to go with them, there wouldn't really be much for him to do besides...stand around and watch? That's all he did when Ahsoka was working with Grogu--and that wouldn't leave any room for him to grow (nor make for an interesting show). He himself has expressed that he can't train Grogu and has always treated the situation as one that he can't participate in once he gives Grogu to the Jedi. Although they are ancient enemies, so it makes sense why he wouldn't want to just...hang around, I think it has more to do with the fact that in mentorship, you need to see your teacher as a parental figure, in a way (including in Jedi training--take Anakin and Obi Wan, for example). Din wouldn't want to be a distraction, nor would he fit in in that environment. His life wasn't nearly as fulfilling before Grogu came into it, but really, from both a character and a writing perspective, the only realistic choice is for them to part ways.
Also, it is a little short-sighted to assume that the show is only as good as the Din-Grogu bond is. We now have an opportunity to get closer to Din as an individual, which could be interesting, if they keep his character consistent. I think it would be a huge mistake not to bring Grogu back (preferably next season--maybe Ahsoka is right and he isn't good for training since he is too attached to Din? Luke delivers him at one of Din's lowest moments and we get a joyful reunion?? I would take that), but I don't think it's out of line to try to explore Din's character apart from Grogu.
In fact, it might ultimately be better. If the show can prove to us that we're not just there for the bond, but for the characters and their bonds, that's infinitely superior. And the show does need to avoid getting locked into just one thing. In branching out, it's trying to establish a stronger base for what it should build on later. It also keeps things varied, which makes them interesting.
The trouble is, where they go from here is what will determine a lot of the validity in that last statement. Changing the story entirely is a big risk, but that means the characters need to stay the same, at least largely, so that the audience feels that they are watching the same show. And some of the decisions made in the finale can go either way. When Din takes off his helmet, is he honoring his son's request, but thus putting love or emotion above his faith? Is he following his Creed by protecting his child (albeit only emotionally)? Is he turning away from his faith altogether and returning to the broken, lonely man he was before, but now without his Creed to guide him? Is he proving Bo-Katan right? Does he consider those he's with to be family (as they all just saved his child), including the Jedi stranger (because Din is giving Grogu to him, trusting him to mentor him and act as his parental figure), thus allowing him to remove his helmet by Creed? Did he not think of these things at all, and simply acted because his son is precious to him? Really, what does that decision mean for Din's character? The answer ultimately won't be known until next season. The same goes for the plot about the Darksaber. Will this end up being another reluctant-hero story (with the traits of the protagonist being reworked to fit into it), or will this be a refreshing subversion of the trope? We can't know until next year. (And don't even get me started on the "foreshadowing of Grogu as evil" stuff. We had better not see that. I don't need that angst...)
The largest source of my anxiety comes from not being able to imagine how they can work with the show from here to maintain the primary aspects of why I love it. I don't want any romance (but without Grogu, will they feel compelled to add some in?) and I don't want Din to become a typical tropey figure (but with the plot about the Darksaber being set up as it is, will they have the guts to avoid that?). Most of all, I want Din to get his son back, but to walk back that decision after only an episode or two would again make everything that came before seem rather unnecessary.
In summary, then, after oscillating wildly between conflicting emotions, I am just left to say: I can't figure out how they're going to do it, but ultimately, time spent worrying is time wasted. I have to just trust that they've got some ideas. The people in charge have proven that they know what they're doing before (Chapter 15 was excellent, for example) and although they aren't perfect, it would be premature to say it can only go downhill from here--they may well have a larger arc planned out that this proves to be an essential part of. It may well be horrible. It could be great. But for now, let's just make the most of what we have.

Diabolik Lovers BLOODY BOUQUET Vol. 4 Sakamaki Shuu [Track 5]
Original title: 月光に誓う
Source: Diabolik Lovers Bloody Bouquet Vol. 4 Shuu Sakamaki [CD not owned by me]
Audio: Currently N/A
Seiyuu: Toriumi Kousuke
Translator’s note: I love Shuu but his Bloody Bouquet CD was a little...lackluster somehow? I’m not sure how to explain it, but somehow I felt stronger emotions when listening to Ruki’s or even Kanato’s CD and the latter is nowhere near on my favorite’s list. I still enjoyed listening to it, but I guess I was hoping for something a little more romantic for the final track. The maiden in me needs that fluff. uwu

Track 5: Swear By the Moonlight
Music plays in the background.
“...Hm? A live performance, huh? It’s a nice melody.”
You halt your steps to look.
“Why are you looking around like that? You shouldn’t stare at those kind of things. ...Come on, keep your composure. You’re dressed up for the occassion, and you actually look the part.”
You frown, feeling uncertain still.
“I’m telling you so have some faith in me. ...Or rather, you shouldn’t be nervous about something like this, should you?”
Shuu pulls back a chair.
“Come on, take a seat. ...Booking a corner seat was the right choice, it seems.”
You walk over and take a seat.
*Rustle*
“I already arranged the food so you don’t need to do anything. Just lift the lid to the dishes brought out to you. Easy, right?”
You ask about the table manners.
“Haah...? I’m not Reiji, so I don’t care about your manners. If you have the leaway to worry about those kind of things, why don’t you try and fill your head with thoughts of me like you usually do?”
You become flustered.
“Hah...You’ve been too focused (1) on me lately, don’t you think? Like spacing out while staring at me from behind...If there is something you want to tell me, why not spit it out?”
You hesitate.
“That’s also the reason why I decided to go out of my way and invite you over to the human world today. I figured you would be over the moon with something like this, but it seems like that isn’t the case. I shouldn’t have gone through all the trouble.”
You quickly shake your head.
“Then ease up a little. If not, you won’t last the whole night. ...Ah, come to think of it. About that bouquet of black roses. I looked into it a little, but I couldn’t find anything on the sender or the circumstances at all. Geez....What a good-for-nothing. I even had a familiar keep watch on you, yet he left an opening...”
Your eyes widen in shock.
“Heh...That expression. Did you think I actually left you all by yourself at our home in the Demon World? ...I at least make sure that I know when something strange is occurring outside.”
You panic.
“Rest assured. How you usually go about your day and such...I know it all. Hahaha...”
You protest.
“Who knows? Have you been doing things you don’t want others to find out? I don’t think a failed attempt at trying out a new recipe is that big of a deal though. Or that one time you were napping until right before you had to come pick me up and woke up in a rush...”
You flinch.
“...Well, right now I just randomly named some things which I could imagine you doing but...Did I get them right?”
You slowly nod.
“Well, I guess it is normal to feel happy from such things...You’re trying to please me, right? I feel like right now, I can somewhat relate to that.”
Their food arrives.
*Cling cling*
You look at the plates as the waitress walks away again.
“Shall we eat? We can leave the chit-chat on hold until we finish our full-course meal.”
*Cling*
You start eating.
*TIMESKIP*
The staff is clearing the empty dishes off the table.
*Cling cling*
“An after-dinner coffee, please...Ah, you’re fine with the same thing, right?”
You nod.
“You look rather satisfied to me.”
You rave about the food.
“Is that so? I’d say it was pretty average. Ah...But I guess by human world standards, it was pretty good. To be honest, before you came into my life, I didn’t give a damn about food and such. So Idon’t really know.
...Even right now, I don’t feel the need to eat unless it’s something you made for me. I don’t need it after all. However...having a meal together like this isn’t bad.”
You smile.
“Haah...(mumbles) I can’t think of the right thing to say. Geez...And here I thought behaving in a human-like manner would be easy...To think it’d be this much of a pain.”
Shuu gets up from his seat.
“Come. Let’s go to the terrace.”
You follow after him.
*SCENE SHIFT*
The two of you walk out onto the terrace.
“...Haah...The darkness really does put me at ease. Those chandeliers were too damn bright. Haah...Made me feel sleepy.”
You giggle.
“Don’t laugh. It throws me off. Haah...I’ll just get this over with quickly.”
He pulls you into his arms.
*Rustle rustle*
“I’ll only say this once, so listen carefully. ...Become mine. Let’s get married.”
You are shocked.
“Haha...What are you so surprised about? Did you already forget our promise to be by each other’s side forever? ...I thought at that moment, we connected, you know.”
You tell him you feel the same way.
“Haah...This really is a pain. I bet things would have pretty much turned out the same even without saying it. Having to put every single thing into words is such a drag.”
You tell him it is important to you.
“I see. Well, if you’re happy...that’s all that matters. Then, I’ll make you even happier. Here.”
He pulls out a bouquet of roses.
*Rustle*
“This time they’re red roses. Will you accept them? ...They don’t have any thorns, but who knows if you’ll be cursed again?”
You raise a brow.
“If you accept them, you might be put under an eternal curse, binding you to me forever.”
You ask him if that really is a curse.
“Who knows? Whether it’s a curse or not is up to personal interpretation, don’t you think? What will you do?”
You gladly accept the bouquet.
*Rustle*
“...Ah. Now you belong only to me. ...I’ll love you, forever.”
*Smooch*
“Haha...And now we’re switching over to the Vampire way (2) of handling things. I reserved the terrace for the two of us. I doubt anyone would enter this dimly lit place.”
You seem a little worried nevertheless.
“Are you sure you can afford to worry about something other than me at such an important moment?”
Shuu leans in.
*Rustle*
“Keep quiet and accept me...”
He bites you.
*Gulp*
“Haah...Haha...What a lovely mark...Even redder than the roses. This is a proof of our love. ...I told you, didn’t you? We’re doing this the Vampire way.”
Shuu holds you closer.
“I’ll suck you plenty...”
*Gulp gulp*
“Haahn...Mmh...Ah...”
ーー THE END ーー
Translation notes
(1) 意識する or ‘ishiki suru’ is always a tricky term for me to translate to English because its meaning can somewhat change depending on the context. It is often used to refer to someone being very aware of someone else’s existence/presence, and in this case, I think it refers to the MC often finding herself thinking about or staring at Shuu.
(2) 流 or ‘ryuu’ can be used as a suffix and attached to nouns to imply that something is done in a certain way/style/manner.
