always an angel, never a god
i realized that using the technical pen was a bad idea because look at that goofy pixelated lineart
anyway this started out as a traditional sketch last night! finding a suitable pose was a struggle
here's the comparison!
it is supposed to be plain.
ALSO it's my first time IN YEARS doing digital art so it might look kind of.... eh to other people. i'm proud of how i did the flame tho (and i realized it might have been drawn in the wrong direction).
i actually don't have any plans to invest myself in digital art and learn it the same way as i did with trad and in all honesty i kind of lost hope in doing so. but when i was conceptualizing, i thought of passing my sketch (trad) digitally and like, give more life to it. so then i thought "hey, what if i give it a try?"
so there you have it! hope you liked it somehow :)
aaand the next time i do digital art i will find a better brush.
if i ever continue doing digital art, this is what my watermark should look like!
if any of you idiots claim any of my works as yours i will sell your parts /j
#thelivingsin#the institute#ut au#utdr au#utdr#safe utdr#that was long wtf#context as to why frisk can do flame magic: they literally just can. they can do anything. they were taught. they have magic#that's kind of it i don't wanna spoil#ALSO those lyrics from NSE really reminded me of frisk the moment i read it so i really wanted to make (concept) art out of it!#i was also supposed to add angel wings but... my lazy beginner noob ahh cannot deal with shit#concept art#tone deaf hummingbird#digital art#utmv#utdrmv

So, we know very few Time Lords are blind... But what about deadness/regenerating without ears? Or being mute/regenerating without vocal chords?
Could a Time Lord be deaf or mute after regeneration?
🧬 Regenerative Anomalies
Regeneration is capable of drastic changes, but it typically preserves sensory functions like hearing and speech. However, it's theoretically possible, though very rare, for regeneration to result in the absence or lack of function in some sensory structures like ears or vocal cords.
🚑 Post-Regeneration Adjustments
Even if a regeneration doesn't initially have these features, Gallifreyans have a window immediately post-regeneration to influence or adjust certain physical characteristics:
⏳ Post-Regeneration Adaptation: After regenerating, Time Lords have a brief period during which they can still influence some features of their new body.
🔧 Technological Corrections: Time Lords could tweak or completely overhaul physical anomalies that occur during regeneration using devices.
💊 Medical Interventions: Advanced medical procedures on Gallifrey likely include corrective surgeries or treatments that can restore or provide alternative ways to handle deafness or muteness.
🌌 Societal Implications and Acceptance
In Gallifreyan society, the rarity of sensory disabilities post-regeneration and the likely ability to correct them quickly means that there probably isn't a widespread social or cultural framework for dealing with these issues:
📜 Cultural Attitudes: Given their advanced technology and capabilities, Gallifreyan society may not have extensive social structures or support systems that specifically address sensory disabilities.
🔍 Visibility and Awareness: These conditions are probably so rare and quickly addressed that they don't significantly impact the social or personal identity of Time Lords, unlike in societies where such conditions can shape life experiences and societal interactions.
🏫 So ...
While the possibility of a Time Lord regenerating into a form with sensory or vocal disabilities exists theoretically, the practicalities of Gallifreyan biology and medical technology probably make this exceptionally rare and easily correctable. This, combined with Gallifrey's cultural and societal norms, means these issues are unlikely to have the same social ramifications as they might in other species or civilisations.
Related:
Do Gallifreyans use a Braille-like system for the visually impaired?: If Gallifreyan Braille exists, and how it could work.
Factoid: How do Gallifreyans cope with extreme vision loss?
Do Time Lord-specific disabilities exist?: Types of disabilities specifically for Gallifreyans, both known and theoretical.
Hope that helped! 😃

Ringo Deathstarr and Blushing at The Deaf Institute. Olympus Trip 35. Kentmere Pan 400.
The reason I visited Manchester back in September was to see two rather cool shoegaze acts. Namely Ringo Deathstarr and Blushing.
Whilst watching the bands I decided to set the Olympus Trip 35 to the f2.8 setting and try to get some shots of the inside of The Deaf Institute and of the acts. I was not expecting much but was pleasantly surprised when the shots came back from the lab.

this school really deserves its impending doom bcs management is soooo tone deaf “but why do our students choose to go to uni in their own city and out of the 2 they choose the non russell group one why aren’t we doing something to support them to aim higher 🤔” could it possibly be that this school is in one of the most deprived areas of the city/nationwide and thats a significant factor affecting academic achievement so students default to the uni w lower entry requirements theyre likely to get into? or maybe that our predominantly immigrant students and their families don’t share the culture of moving out and living independently at 18? that their immigration status and overseas qualifications affect their entry requirements ? that many of them are responsible for their families and don’t want to leave them? that its more affordable to stay home and not be in even more debt by taking out a maintenance loan to stay alive? the girls who aren’t allowed to leave home before marriage? what a truly confounding phenomenon that our students don’t go to a russell group uni it must be a very bad look that we get 90% students in higher education or formal training after college but not the ‘best’ choice. But what do i know i guess !
#p#theres no institutional racism and no racial and ethnic segregation here guys don’t worry. our students have equal opportunities!#unreal how tone deaf that whole email was#asking what we’re doing wrong where we’re going wrong#as if its no achievement to consistently send off students to uni regardless of status or rank#and like we have loads of students who Do move out and go to very good unis and even oxbridge#loads of students going into medicine and engineering and law#and loads of students whom we had to fight and advocate for to their families to even allow them to go to uni!!!!!!#you’re looking at one of the shittest areas and one of the shittest schools and acting like we’re getting disappointing results#shove your british values up your ass fix your country#on the same note as shitting themselves over ofsted and getting less than a good rating My brothers ofsted is comparing our school to#schools in the posh neighborhoods (some of the most middle upper class areas nationwide also)#and instead of seeing this as an opportunity to challenge standards and place value on everything we do right by our students#they’re trying to get the stats equal to those other schools and its having tangibly adverse effects on achievement engagement and attendanc#i’m sick from frustration with this damn schools leadership u are all shit#they should maybe possibly potentially look at what has actually improved student achievement and whose ideas they were#hint. not the white british leadership team’s#but i digress .

as it turns out my city DOES have an adult learn-to-play hockey league so now i get to live out my recover(ing/ed) bitch dreams and play h o c k e y.
#full tuition for ASL classes at the local institute for the Deaf and Blind is under $100#local ballet company has non-professional adult classes for $18/class or $160 upfront for 10 classes#life is too short to not invest in things that bring me joy#(not to mention that i do have progressive hearing loss and i WILL get to a point where i won’t be able to reliably hear shit#without hearing aids my insurance is currently refusing to cover. so ASL for me n zach is not only an interest thing but just…#a smart thing to do.)#i love saying ‘my hearing is going to get to the point where i won’t be able to hear much wo aids’#like my hearing tests aren’t a mess#50db range of loss but instead of missing high frequency sounds#my mid frequency is subpar at best and my low frequency is dog shit#‘yes i can hear that faint high pitched ringing. no i cannot hear music in the car if the volume is lower than 20/40. we exist.’#anyways i digress

being on this website right now is just like im being so brave by blacklisting the tags for a new movie thats very popular right now and not responding to any of the gifsets i still see of it with what is rightful criticism of it for being tone-deaf
#kai rambles#i just think that if the premise of you book/movie is that steeped in politics#you have to engage with them rather than kicking it under the rug and pushing it into another room#especially the queer history of both countries in relation to politics and one specific institution if it is a gay love story#and the political institutions in both countries are catalysts or components of the plot#if youre not going to actually engage with it and explore it in relation to your romance why is it even in your book?#its justa magnet on a fridge to make it look unique#and since its a gay romance its intrinsically linked to the politics you are not engaging with#gay marriage is not codified in law in america#and like maybe its being a queer brit who has spoken to people who arent terminally online baby gays#but i think its so fucking tone-deaf and honestly a little offensive to write a gay romance where one of them is a royal without#even mentioning princess fucking diana#you know the one who was post-humously honoured as a queer icon because of all the work she did surrounding aids#whete she famously held hands with an aids patient when most people didnt even want to go near them#where she set up trusts and charities and led campaigns to fund research into a treatment#where the queen didnt fucking support her and suggested she choose ''something more pleasant''#she is a queer icon in britain and the royal family treated her like fucking shit and probably had her killed#like i get that the author is american and might not know about it butidk casey you could do some fucking research#i honestly think its disgusting to write a queer story about a british royal without even mentioning her and the impact she had

thinking about these two nights currently has me in a vice-like grip tbh. originally they were just doing a night in london and a night in manchester performing moth boys in full because they hadn't properly toured it but due to high demand they announced an extra date in each city the night before the moth boys shows were due to happen for them to play enjoy it while it lasts in full and it was SO HOT and so insane. these were also taken on like an iphone 6 or something so they're truly 2014core.

At the California Institute of the Arts, it all started with a videoconference between the registrar’s office and a nonprofit.
One of the nonprofit’s representatives had enabled an AI note-taking tool from Read AI. At the end of the meeting, it emailed a summary to all attendees, said Allan Chen, the institute’s chief technology officer. They could have a copy of the notes, if they wanted — they just needed to create their own account.
Next thing Chen knew, Read AI’s bot had popped up inabout a dozen of his meetings over a one-week span. It was in one-on-one check-ins. Project meetings. “Everything.”
The spread “was very aggressive,” recalled Chen, who also serves as vice president for institute technology. And it “took us by surprise.”
The scenariounderscores a growing challenge for colleges: Tech adoption and experimentation among students, faculty, and staff — especially as it pertains to AI — are outpacing institutions’ governance of these technologies and may even violate their data-privacy and security policies.
That has been the case with note-taking tools from companies including Read AI, Otter.ai, and Fireflies.ai.They can integrate with platforms like Zoom, Google Meet, and Microsoft Teamsto provide live transcriptions, meeting summaries, audio and video recordings, and other services.
Higher-ed interest in these products isn’t surprising. For those bogged down with virtual rendezvouses, a tool that can ingest long, winding conversations and spit outkey takeaways and action items is alluring. These services can also aid people with disabilities, including those who are deaf.
But the tools can quickly propagate unchecked across a university. They can auto-join any virtual meetings on a user’s calendar — even if that person is not in attendance. And that’s a concern, administrators say, if it means third-party productsthat an institution hasn’t reviewedmay be capturing and analyzing personal information, proprietary material, or confidential communications.
“What keeps me up at night is the ability for individual users to do things that are very powerful, but they don’t realize what they’re doing,” Chen said. “You may not realize you’re opening a can of worms.“
The Chronicle documented both individual and universitywide instances of this trend. At Tidewater Community College, in Virginia, Heather Brown, an instructional designer, unwittingly gave Otter.ai’s tool access to her calendar, and it joined a Faculty Senate meeting she didn’t end up attending. “One of our [associate vice presidents] reached out to inform me,” she wrote in a message. “I was mortified!”

Live Review: Kit Sebastian at The Deaf Institute in Manchester 03 October 2024
Words: Andy Hughes If it’s a show at The Deaf Institute, these days you’re praying there’s a seat at the back of the room. Raised seating with a perfect view of the stage? Please! Luckily for us, on Thursday night we managed to secure a few choice seats, with a giant glittering disco ball hovering above. With the visiting Kit Sebastian in town, romance was on the cards in favour of their…
