- Will came out to mike a few months after the events of vecnas doings

- mike hugged will after he came out and gave him a quick kiss on the cheek (he felt embarrases afterwards because he was only used to give quick kisses to his sister holly and el + he ran away from will after the kiss )

- mike decided to break up with el but unlike his plans el did the complete opposite and broke up with him

- will confessed to mike that he had a crush on him. Mike became as red as a tamato and said that he "miiiiiiight" like him back

- due to vecna still being alive and the upside down being more powerful then it ever was, will started to feel vecnas pain wich sent him to the hospital leading to mike cuddling him every night (also i like to imagine will being hospitalized in the same room as max)

- before asking will out mike asked joyce's for permission to do so. Her response was "my god u wheelers never know when to stop, if u break his heart ill get el to break ur neck" . Mike was a bit frightend but it didnt stop him from asking will out

- because hopper is technically wills step dad his response to him dating one of his children again was wanting to beat him up

- mike took will out to enzos at their first date and took him there on many more

- wills dnd character is married to mikes character

- el uses her powers to push will onto mike for fun sometimes (they try to push her aswell but always fail)

- their first kiss was on the field of gray flowers

- mike asked will to teach him how to paint (mike made a mess on the canvas when he tried to draw a simple flower)

i understand ur post but i have a byler mutual saying almost the exact same thing about if they make mlvn endgame because to give will one sole love interest and put him through that much trauma and struggle to accept his sexuality only to have the guy reject him and end up with his sister is homophobic writing and u probably dont agree but i find it hysterical that st have managed to get themselves into such a conundrum that their only option is to introduce mikes secret twin of the opposite sexuality thats been there the whole time so they both get a happy ending. surely this is a perfect plan and there are no flaws whatsoever and everyone will be satisfied

SMCKSKXJSNKE i was literally just talking to sarah about how they've written themselves into a corner by reintroducing the stoncy love triangle in s4 because BEFORE they could have been like yeah steve is over her and now he's finding fulfillment outside of romance etc etc but now they've reignited stancy for some fuckin reason (my fingers are crossed for that theory that says since the upside down is stuck in 1983 it was making steve and nancy's 1983 feelings come back) and suddenly they'll be pissing off Some segment of the fanbase no matter what they do.

re: byler i think. well first of all i think that byler isn't even remotely on the radar of casual viewers as an actual possibility and i don't think it could happen in s5 bc the vast majority of viewers would be like where the fuck did that come from. second of all my el argument is partially a joke but also it's just fundamentally a very different situation where like. for will if byler doesn't happen nothing gets Worse for him shit just stays the same. for el if byler happens something Must get worse for her like she loses her boyfriend of 2-3 years. they're in different situations.

third of all i think it's very silly for people to act like will Needs for mike to like him back in order to be happy when like. it's not The Crush that's making will miserable it's being closeted in a small town in the 1980s and feeling like he can never have what he wants and be truly happy in life. mike liking him back would not fix the misery he feels at having to hide this part of himself from the world.

yknow in s3 robin is a sorta closed-off character who's snarky and prickly at times and she only really opens up in the russian torture scene + the bathroom scene. and in the bathroom scene she is Terrified to tell steve she likes girls but she confesses to having a crush on tammy thompson and... steve makes her feel okay about it. he makes fun of her crush and robin feels Normal and Safe and they laugh together and by the time s4 rolls around robin is a much more open and happy person than she was back before she'd come out to steve. she's more herself. and you know what never happened? tammy thompson never liked her back. robin didn't need a girlfriend. she needed love and support and validation from a good friend. she needed to find comfort with herself and her sexuality and all the other parts of her that she hid behind a tough exterior for protection.

as much as i hate watching will scenes bc noah schnapp can't act for shit, i am kinda looking forward to seeing him finally openly addressing his sexuality in s5 and maybe realizing that his childhood crush on his best friend not being reciprocated isn't the end of the world. i think if will could move on and let mike go (in the romantic sense not as a friend) it might also feel a bit like letting go of all his pain over the past few years and starting over with a clean slate. obviously idk what exactly's gonna happen in s5 we're all just making shit up right now but i guess that's kinda what i hope will happen with him.

it makes me sad kinda that will's most dedicated fans are more preoccupied with getting him a boyfriend than like... self-confidence and shit. but i'm not actually that sad bc i kinda don't give a fuck about will anyway

actually. confession! karen’s plot was like 80% of the reason i decided to do a script at all, bc i had such a solid s5 vision in my head for her but i couldn’t figure out how to work it into a byler-pov fic. i was thinking about doing separate related ficlets originally, but then i got even more ideas, and the scripts were born!

and yeah, i’m super excited about all the reunions!! i was going to wait for the finale until some of them, like mr. clark, but i figured i’d just get them all done in one big reunion extravaganza. the plan was always to include kali somehow—i want to make sure i close out the arcs of all characters in the show, like terry and the police, etc! and el needs her sister back💗

thank you so so so much for the comment about the hive mind (and for your notes on the fic as well)! i know that understandably this chapter got overshadowed very much by byler, but the restoration/decolonization of the upside down is a really important theme to me, and i’m looking forward to writing it out. especially because (and i could be wrong about this) it’s not a route that i necessarily see the duffers taking, and i wanted to be able to do it justice.

i think that byler should confess and get together and get stuck in the upside-down together. And that Mike should get tripped/grabbed by a vine and cut his chin like he does in s1. And then Mike should joke about Will kissing it better. And then Will should gently kiss it better.

And then Mike should get absolutely obliterated by some sort of creature, some huge gash on his torso or something and jokingly ask, through a mouthful of blood, for Will to kiss it better. And Will should.

He knows it’s stupid, but mike’s pale and shaking with that stupid, blood-files grin on his face, and so he kisses right beside it. and then the flesh starts to knit together like the way that the gate knit together when El closed it in s2.

And BOOM THATS WHEN ITS REVEALED THAT WILL, MR CLERIC, HAS HEALING POWERS.

or, if we go the non powers route, that’s when Will loops an arm around mike’s waist, and throws one around his shoulders, and haul Mike up and drags him to the upside down version of the wheeler basement and patches him up. and gives him a proper kiss. and rips up his flannel shirt as a bandage for Mike. And sets his hand on top of mike’s shaky-from-blood-loss hand in a parallel of the “super spy” scene from s2.

or both. will kisses it after mike’s all bandaged up and Mike feels it healing, so they pull back the flannel bandage (the flandage) and see the flesh knitting together. Mike, being the smartass he is, insists that it must only be kisses that have healing powers, and so “oh noooo Will ur gonna have to kiss me again” despite the fact that Will’s pressing a hand on Mike’s torso to heal him as he speaks. Will gives him a kiss anyway.

No bc Mike getting vecna'd is such a good idea if byler endgame is the goal. Like his regret/shame would be the fact that he can't say ily to his gf and the fact that he's in love w his best friend but repressing it. Then will could confess and this would remove some of that shame thus possibly saving him?? Cause people saying will gets cursed has me wondering what his regret would be (other than his love for Mike, which he seems to be relatively accepting of, whereas Mike (if he is in love w will) is repressing it much more and prob thinks it will hurt el whom he really cares about)

exactly, i see this more even as a great tool for their respective character developments than even for the ship itself, but ofc that would be best outcome if this all happened.

in my opinion if will gets vecna'd it would just be too similar to what hes already been through before, it would be unnecessary repeating. what we need is to see will have some connection to the upside down, that will help by the end to defeat vecna or whoever else in s5.

meanwhile it would be much more interesting to see this with mike. bc overall its a bit more difficult to see what hes really thinking, if we only see the surface level emotions.

first, he cares about all his friends beyond anything. and while will and el and max went through such trauma that was very visible, (and theyre still dealing with that, we still dont know much how mike is dealing with anything.

we only see how he changes depending on whos around him and how they interact together (dustin and lucas, eddie, will, el, his family - i feel he acts very different around each of them)

In season one his best friend went missing, was pressumed dead and had a funeral - mike thought, even for a while, he lost him permanently.

In that time el appeared and was helping find will, his friends suddenly think he likes her more than a friend (its whats normal, right? Ofc he should like her before he even knows himself...)

He fights with lucas about el in s1, and one of the things he said (i cant remember exactly now) is how he feels guilty they fought about it, "if only he could have said something more, something better, its my fault"

i think he said something similar in different situations during the first three seasons, and then in s4, when hes opening up to will about this, he tells him similar thing twice "if only i explained myself better, i should have said something more to el, do something better"

from that i get the feeling hes always trying to do not just the best he can, but whats expected of him. and when he finds he doesnt have the power to stop something, or physically cannot make himself say something thats probably not true, he blames himself afterwards.

S3 is such rollercoaster for him, hes with el but cant be with el bc hopper, and then cant say what he feels - or maybe he doesnt know whats hes supposed to feel. And then el and will are leaving. Two of his most important friends, and i think thats what made him all the more confused, bc what if he misses will more than el?

Why did the promise of will wanting only play d&d with mike made him smile so much, but then the kiss with el made him all the more confused?

theres two such contrasts in his personality, where one of his main beliefs is "friends dont lie" and he does as much as he can with honestly, but at the same time he pushes something inside him down and pretends it doesnt exist (his complicated feelings towards.. romance, lets say).

Back to the vecna theory - this is why i think if mike gets vecna'd it would add more perspective to his character and for us to see what all hes been going through in the past seasons.

Same as his feelings towards will, its been there building from s1.

It could be few flashbacks and memories telling the audience the scenes that already happened from mike's point of view, how he struggles at home,

how he regretted the words he said to will in s3 (its not my fault you dont like girls), bc it was more directed at himself than will, but he didnt realize that yet.

how finding eddie and playing in d&d club could mean hes slowly finding himself (and with d&d being like a connection will again, bc its something they both loved playing together).

And how all of this is so confusing, especially for their time in the 80s, and hes still trying his best, but slowly, more and more cant ignore that his heart wants something (someone) else than hes supposed to be with.

Its just all these things that will go either unnoticed and unmentioned in the series, which i think would be a shame, or it could be addressed in the way with vecna who would manipulate his fears and nightmares, and if others can save him (which im sure they would), he could start process it in a better way, more honest to himself as well to others. To accept himself, and by that also will's feelings (if he noticed those, which i dont think he did, i think will noticed mike's confused ones, if anything.)

stancy: i really really don’t see it happening, when steve started going on about his monologue of nancy being the mother to his kids (??) or something she was about to reply (but got interrupted by robin)

these were her facial expressions and reaction to steve’s speech (i am so sorry for the quality it’s just dark in the upside down ig) and you cannot tell me she was about to reject him..??? or say something like “hey man i understand you’re a great dude now and you’ve developed and got educated but i’m over our relationship i’ve just been close and leaning on to you this whole season because we’re obviously still close and had history with eachother so i’m happy to just be friends” because thats the knly logical way to solve their unsolved tension from the past few seasons so yeah stancy gets crossed out of the list

jancy - probably the most likely to happen (or the one i’m leaning in to more) but i can never be too sure .. however there’s more supporting this like the fact they have matching scars, they got murrayed, and theyre standing next to eachother at the end screen and probs more but GOD AM I HAVING DOUBTS

lesbian nancy/ronance - i gotta say i love this one… the story of a “little miss perfect” girl who’s dated 2 guys but ends up finding her true self and her interactions with robin this season are just so romantic coded sorry and we know stranger things is the gayest show and season 5 will have be the gayest season so i’ll not be THAT surprised (i’m rooting for a nancy robin & vickie poly rs)

independent single nancy - i love this one too because she’d be paralleled with el a lot and her arc this season was more about beating the shit out of vecna than romance but honestlyyyyy

okay writing this down may or may not have made my jancy belief percentage higher because of the things i listed down but i really want to know your opinions and what you believe nancys story is going.

personally i’ve thought for a while now that the audience will be told in vol 1 and mike will be, on some level, aware of it (at least 75% there lol, and maybe 15% on the “coming to terms w it” scale haha) by the end of the volume. i think that this would make the most sense for what i’ve been able to assemble of the timeline, plus it’d definitely get people talking and tuning in for vol 2. then in vol 2 some sort of byler Moment would happen (not sure exactly what it would look like, but i think it’d be confession or confession-adjacent) and by s5 the focus would be more on external factors (e.g. society’s attitudes, the party’s attitudes, trying to outlive the season’s Big Bad long enough to have a shot at happiness, etc lmaooo)

exactly yes. i would have liked to see if they could have played around with the reveal happening during a moment with vecna (or maybe, since i'd love for these characters to all be tied to each other and the upside down by some supernatural force, mike at least gets some vecna induced nightmares all the way out in california. ooh maybe vecna is ab range so the more he's out of hawkins, they less intense the nightmares become. idk idk point is. i would have loved that), but i def agree w ur timeline, esp the whole s5 thing. (also i have this vision for the reveal being during a mid-road trip, in the rain, pay phone call to karen.) like if byler is happening, they will admit it to each other in prolly the epilogue (with a crazy together reference. i will not let go of mike being all nervous ab being gay in indiana in the 80s and being like "are you sure? us? together? it's crazy?" and will hitting him with a "like we said crazy together" bc. literally what else could happen. thats insane.) and s5 will def have all the outside forces acting against them. I trust the duffers writing but season 6 would give it the appropriate time the show needs to completely resolve the upside down shit, and for us to funny understand it. hellooo! something i really really want to see is mike be more emotional. i think given the fact that hes been so repressed and kind of an asshole for two seasons and we still havent seen him come to terms with his feelings, hes gonna completely breakdown. will has had a moment in every season where he cries but mike hasnt, hes just been suppressing it this whole time so i think hes really going to sob when he confesses or comes out to someone. maybe not even to will. id kinda love if this scene was with el and their breakup was a really emotional moment where mike is coming out to her. it would be really comforting and nice for both of them because i think el needs to understand that the reason he doesnt love her is bc he doesnt love girls at all, not bc she’s unloveable or anything like that. and i think mike coming out to someone like el would help him so much too bc she has no bias and didnt grow up in a world knowing what homophobia is. i think mike seeing someone completely genuinely baffled at the idea of someone thinking he is wrong for his feelings would make him feel so much relief.

now i really really want this omg i want their breakup to be emotional in the healthiest way possible. cuz like obviously mlvn is bones but i dont like when people make it seem like mike doesnt care about her. he love her like family and he wants whats best for her so i dont like peoples hopes of them just breaking up in the first episode and then go right to byler. i think/hope their break up will also be mike coming out to her and el will be rooting for him and trying to tell him that will loves him back. and then mike and will get stuck in the upside down together and mike kisses him. in a perfect world this is exactly how itll go down. i think theyll break up around like episode 4 or 5 and then mike and will get together the second to last episode. but yeah i love elmike and i hope/believe theyll make their breakup really emotional and sweet. i dont want either of them to leave each other sad because of the break up.

another hope is mike and will being in the upside down together. i just fucking love the forced proximity trope and honestly i think it would be the best place for mike to confess or kiss him because they would literally be in their own world with no one else to say theyre wrong or anything like that. and i want their first kiss to be SOFT!!!! AND HESITANT AND SWEET!!!!!!!! NO ANGST MID FIGHT KISSES I DONT WANT THAT AT ALL!!!!!!! i want it to be just a quiet moment with no tension just love!!! with the track “being different” playing over it!!!!!!!!!!!!

unrelated to byler, something else i kinda would love to see is max being blind which is crazy cuz thats so sad and shes my favorite character but man the potential that has for writing is so fucking cool. they could all be thinking of plans to kill vecna and max might notice things no one else does bc theyre all thinking about the bigger picture of everything they saw but max would notice things like feelings and scents and sounds. i also need some happy lumax moments again cuz god i love them.
