Top surgery recovery diary - Day 1

officially a full day post surgery! heres how the day has gone

sleeping last night was Rough. i slept with a wedge, two pillows, and a plushie behind me so i was mostly upright. i think at some point i fell asleep for an hour or two, but i mostly just nodded in and out of sleep the whole night while watching videos on my phone. normally when i cant sleep i go a bit crazy, but its not like i had any plans in the morning, so i just let myself enjoy the bed rest and didn't worry about it. the night did take Forever though. and sitting like that really made my butt hurt

also, the first few times i got my drains drained, i nearly fainted. but thats gotten a lot easier, and the most recent time i didnt get woozy at all. my drainage levels are already really low, so unless my drainage triples for some reason, ill definitely be good to get them out by my 1-week post op appointment! which is a huge relief. i dont like having tubes in me

the 10 minute walks every 2 hours really are my least favorite part. its boring to walk across our house like 20 times, and just a little bit of walking sometimes makes my heartbeat intense (not fast though! just Heavy). its also a bit painful, my chest area still has a bit of bounce when i walk, and with everything being so tender, its not very nice. i was told to do some arm/shoulder stretches 4x daily, but being so fresh from surgery, i've just been very slightly moving my arms when i do my walks

pain is still tolerable! i'm gradually trying to ease my rate of oxy from every 6hrs->8hrs->12hrs, but the closer it gets to wearing off the more i Feel. but i only have so many and i want to make them last!! i at least want to be able to have it before bed, and id love to have one left over for drain removal day

the worst of the pain isn't even from the surgery site itself, its mostly just back pain. i cant stretch like i normally do to pop my spine, and its very annoying. thankfully it usually cracks a few times when i get up to move

no bowel movements yet, but i took some miralax this morning, and im probably going to take some more before bed as well. definitely also staying hydrated and eating peas and applesauce for that good fiber

all in all, very sleepy day, very uneventful. i'm so sleepy. i miss caffeine

hi there! I'm the op of that animal jam post and I saw your tags, so I've come with answers!

71 is a glitched item that could be obtained through a specific process back in...either 2012 or 2013? I don't remember, but it was in one of the early years of animal jam. I don't remember what the exact process was, but it had something to do with trading, and it also yielded other glitched items, but 71 is the most interesting.

I found out about 71 from an old animal jam blogspot blog I used to be a huge fan of that is no longer available for public viewing (though some of it has been archived on the wayback machine.) That blog was the only instance I'd ever heard of someone talking about this glitch, it seems to be a pretty obscure bit of aj trivia.

71 was a clothing item that took the appearance of the "boy" eyes a player could customize their animal with. It could be worn and occupied its own item slot, meaning it could be worn even if you also had a head item on. When put on the player's animal, it just looked like the "boy" eyes but fully maroon, exactly as the item icon is. (the blog post i found out about 71 from had an image of 71 being worn on a monkey, but I dont have that saved.)

The maroon color is in fact important ! Maroon is basically animal jam's "default"/missing texture color (thats why items like "magenta" furry hats/"magenta" festive lights exist, they were accidentally released without their proper colors set. I have no idea why the whole aj playerbase calls it magenta when its really maroon though.)

If I remember correctly, 71 and the other items the glitch yielded couldnt be traded, and would disappear from the player's inventory shortly after being obtained.

Glitches in video games, especially ones that were such a huge part of my childhood like Animal Jam, have always been a huge interest of mine, so thats probably why I still remember 71 after all this time. It stands as one of my favorite AJ glitches of all time, even though I wasn't around to experience it myself.

So yeah exactly 2 weeks ago, I was on a drive back home from a camping trip and while I was offline I couldnt stream any music, I decided to give some old songs a listen by Ling tosite sigure, my favorite band of all time. It's been a while, I wasn't too fond of their recent releases so I haven't listened to my favorites songs by them for a while.

Of course then make up syndrome song came on. I'mperfect album by LTS is how I discovered them (through Psycho Pass OP song Abnormalize) and I love that album a lot, then I started thinking about animating a music video - as one does when listening to something and imagining your favorite characters to the song. Happens often, BUT I usually never act upon it.

I know animation is a lot of work, I didn't study animation at all - I have some random animation experiences but they're not a lot. I know how use Premiere Pro and After Effects, but thats it. I didn't know how to use the Clip Studio Paint animation feature. But I had just recently finished reading ORV... and was obsessed. The themes, the characters, Kim Dokja. I couldn't stop thinking about how good the song is, and how much I wanted to animate some parts of the song (particularly main chorus and some parts towards the end).

I began thinking of a storyboard. Didn't actually end up drawing out, I kept the whole idea in my head (I did write out some text details into my notes but that's it). Next 2 hours in the car I've spent obsessively replaying the song and imagining animation parts. I wanted... a lot of details and animation on that lol. More TV anime style, like an anime opening, looking legit 😅 But as I edited the song into short version (no way I would have finished this if I had done the full song) I opened after effects and started setting up my timeline. I broke it down into 13 segments and realized... oh boy. That's a lot 😅 Maybe I would just stick my own artstyle and do my best.

Through week 1 I began working on scenes I had more clear in my head and knew what specific effects I need. But still a lot of "after effects [effect i was thinking of]" in my google search bar, I havent used AE in quite some time... I downloaded few free plugins and templates but it was mostly a boil effect and chromatic aberration... some AE plugins are so expensive!!

Work week was busy but I utilized my time well. Then by the weekend I went crazy and got sooo many drawings done. They're all quite quick, I tried spending less than an hour on each, but still had to do like 5 redraws on some of them because I was not happy with some cuts. Running animation cycle at the end was most insane work I did because at first I was like "surely this cant be hard" spoiler alert: it was hard. I drew 8 frames for running and realized it was very... slow running effect. So I cut it into 4 frames, reducing my workload since I had to detail the running silhouette into HSY and YJH. yay?

anyway..... this was a lot of work. Week 2 I finally started seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. I knew my limits, I hibernate A LOT on drawing regular illustrations throughout the year, how am I supposed to animate a whole video. So I knew I had to push myself to finish by end of the week otherwise I will be too tired to ever finish it. I did become a bit frustrated with my work, I had left the most difficult parts for last, and I was worried I am not doing my best work. But I really wanted to finish this, actually finish impulsive desire to make animated music video to media I'm obsessed about. It's hard for me to put into words how well ORV did what it did, so I can only hope to convey my emotions thru my art.

Uhmmm that's it!! Hope you enjoyed. I struggle with confidence about my work so I was very surprised when my KDJ drawings popped off on here. I wasn't even done with the novel but somehow I hit a nail on the head I guess. I dont expect this to pop off at all tbh, im not good fighting the online algorithm. This was a passion project through and through, but I also feel mega cringe about it 🙈 This project ended up being a lot of drawings.. so many assets. My project file was messy, and my laptop was struggling with some effects. where... where did all this tension come from? it has been light the past two episodes then bam, everything they say to each other is bitter. since when is seb jealous? the writers have so many other conflicts to talk about and they choose jealous seb? off all thing?!?! im honestly kind of disappointed because there are so many other things to talk about from previous episodes and instead they choose this?!?!?! hopefully this isn’t the only thing that is addressed next week, it cant be. they better talk about the constant “no seb” because its an issue. 

moral of the story is i hope the fight next episode isn’t about seb being jealous bc there is so much more to talk about

honestly felt crazy for thinking all this because i didnt want to judge tiktok as i had barely used it up to that point but yeah! i feel like im just blocking a ton of folks 24/7. and the fact the block button is only available after you click on someones profile, it is pretty annoying (unless there is a quicker way to do it, please tell me). and, idk again just a me thing, but having such a short word limit on comments makes fandom really awkward! ops can fit a ton of text in a video, yet you can only write such short comments... its such a disservice for fandom related things! and one more thing about tiktok design, on pc you cannot save videos to collections or manage them, which i was using to save my favorite edits. its really an odd choice, if it even was one.

and yeah... on most social media i can never escape the antis! for the longest time i never participated in fandom and kept to myself about it and imagined whatever i wanted, so to see antis are so prevalent, especially in tiktok, was almost like a culture shock.

thankfully i did find somewhat of a community who make comship edits with no hate comments because the ops just delete them all. it was like finding a very peaceful lake haha.

and thanks for the idea for amino, i havent used it in so long (met my best friend of many years on there though). i'll definitely try it.

and yeah fandom has been horrible to be in recently. the only places that feel good to be in ive found are (of course) ao3 and tumblr. tumblr just because of the chronological timeline and ability to curate your feed, which is sorely lacking these days.

Hi, I hope this type of discussion is welcome, if not you can delete this, but I was on tiktok (I rarely use it) because I wanted to see some of edits of my ship (it's a bit of a rare pair in the specific fandom and I've already read all the fanfiction 😭) and of course opened the comments to find some sense of love for the ship but it was all negative/passive aggressive comments with all the people saying they love the ship being buried and only having a couple likes 😔 maybe I'm just not finding the right kinda of sphere to hang around in there but tiktok seems atrocious for anyone who's proship or who are perceived as having comships. And I say perceived because even ships in the fandom I thought were very normal and shipped by tons of people were being attacked... And it was using the same reasoning of its wrong.... It was baffling seeing antis just take anything about a ship and decide it's problematic.

On a positive note, all the edits really inspired me and made me want to make my own for the ship =^w^=

I hope you do find your right circle, just keep blocking people and reporting any of their bullshit that's like full on death threats and shit. Also I sometimes run away to my own personal me-only private amino community for me to post about my fandoms without worry some antis will come over and be super rude cause it's literally just me. So if you ever want a private thing like that just as a breath of fresh air, I say go for it

But overall I am so sorry you experienced that. Fandom is becoming hell basically. It sucks.

Tamaki was never one to play video games, but he had to admit there was just something...soothing about Animal Crossing that melted much of his anxiety away. Nejire had initially preordered a copy for his birthday weeks ago, but her friend who worked at the local (s/n) (who he may or may not have been crushing on since their second year after they joined them at lunch one day) was able to pull a couple strings and get it on the fourth of March instead of the twentieth. Of course he had no idea, but he was so stunned when he opened it that it didn’t even occur to him that the game wasn’t even out yet until Mirio had reminded him. He didn’t question it though- his friend group was one wild card after another, so he guessed he shouldn’t have been too surprised.

He was thrilled, and just the fact that no one else had a copy yet made it feel all the more personal. Of course he knew in sixteen days it would be all anybody ever talked about, but for the time being it felt like the game, the little world he had created in the past few days with its gentle music and soft, wholesome theme, was his and his alone. The fact that it was a gift from his friends made it all the more special, and even if he had a hectic day at school he could turn on the console and water pretend flowers on a pretend island, and for those few moments, all was right with the world.

He was pulling weeds to sell to Timmy for bells when his screen pinged in the corner that made his blood run cold.

Playing: Animal Crossing New Horizons

That’s right, you had friended him on the switch after realizing all his friends had one, and now with a fourth person they could have a full team online. Mirio has suggested everyone exchange codes, and you had taken the liberty of showing him how to punch in the code and adding yourself while he sat there trying not to melt into his seat at how excited you got, or how nice you smelled up close. You had passed it back with a beaming grin, telling him you couldn’t wait to do co-ops. At the time he could only nod, speechless as the rest of his friends made idle chatter until the bell rung, and everyone scurried back to class.

He quickly realized he had left the terminal gate open when he was poking around the various features, learning about what each thing does in game. He tried sprinting to the airport to close the gates, and he made it to the dock before a big green banner flashed across his screen reading “you have a visitor!”

Out of the threshold popped your avatar, and for a moment he was grateful he could hide behind a screen. He wanted to be mad, upset even, that you had wandered onto his digital sanctuary, but couldn’t find it in himself because, then again, it was you.

The Nookphone in the top left corner buzzed to life, and he opened up the chat log with shaky hands. In a cutesy, pastel speech bubble was your message, and he wondered how something that was once so therapeutic to him could do a 180 and suddenly become the source of his anxiety.

G/T: Hello! Sorry to pop in unannounced, I hope you don’t mind^^

Tamaki felt his mouth go dry, reading it in your voice and after steadying his breathing, he painstakingly typed out a response.

Suneater: its ok.

G/T: It’s kinda hard to find others to play with when the game isn’t even released yet >~<

Suneater: Oh?

He should have known it was too good to be true. You were only visiting him because no one else was on yet. He sighed, trying to keep the dread from crawling back in before another note popped up.

G/T: The game doesn’t actually release until the first day of spring, but working at (s/n) has its perks. I saw the trailers and the hype and figured it would be the perfect game for you.

He felt a wave of relief wash over him upon reading that. So he wasn’t the last choice- rather, the game simply wasn’t out to the general public yet. But if that was the case, how did you also get a copy?

Suneater: thats nice of you

G/T: And then a little birdy told me you had a birthday coming up, so since I have a couple connections after I got my copy, I asked my manager if they’d set aside one more.

Suneater: you

Suneater: you were the one who helped get it early?

Boy did he feel stupid now. You worked at (s/n), (as you had literally just mentioned in your previous notes), Nejire got him a game that wasn’t out yet, you guys were all mutual friends- how did he not put two and two together?!

G/T: Yes lol that would be me^ you liking it so far? You picked a good name for the island too.

“Sunshine Island” may have seemed a little cliche to most people, but Tamaki had so many things in his life linked to it that by this point, it was just routine. Mirio was his sun in dark times. His nickname Suneater, even the sunflowers he had received from his parents for his birthday each year was tradition. He knew not everyone would see it the way he did, but to him, it was perfect, and he was definitely chuffed when he thought it up and punched it in for the first time.

To hear you loved it too sent a swell of pride through him, and he wondered if it was possible to love someone as much as he did just then.

Suneater: you really think so?

G/T: Absolutely

And with that, the two of you explored Sunshine Island together, he showed you his tent, the shops, and the little orchard of peaches he had arranged. You were impressed by the amount of detail and care that went into arranging everything, and asked if he’d be willing to help you with your island sometime, to which he obliged. 

You guys did some more walking, and he told you to feel free to shake theres and take a couple fruits with you. His native fruit was peaches, and in exchange you dropped a couple of your own fruits from your island on the ground for him to pick up so he could have more variety in his world.

G/T: There’s six different kinds, and each island is assigned one main type of fruit. the more you visit with friends, the more biodiversity you’ll get. Pretty cool right? I have some spare (F/N), and if you take and plant those, they'll grow and multiply!

His avatar hesitantly wandered over to the offering after yours stepped back a little to let him take them. Your generousity was surely appreciated, and even though you couldn't see it, he smiled softly before typing out a new message.

Suneater: Thank you. I’ll go plant those.

The game might have been synced up with real time, even getting darker after a certain hour- yet despite it being outside, neither one of you noticed just how much time had passed between all the bug catching, fishing, exploring and talking. When your screen loaded up a clock that read 2:54 AM, you blinked a few times, as if that would change the reading. But lo and behold, it was going for 3am on a school night, and you knew you both had to get to bed.

G/T: Ah beans its 3am, I gotta get to bed soon. Thanks for letting me hang out on your island, and sorry for keeping you awake >~<

Suneater: don't be sorry, i had a lot of fun. can we play together again sometime?

G/T: Of course! I can't wait to meet up again. Maybe we can visit my island next time? I should have those peaches planted by then, and you can teach me your ways, oh master landscaper.

Tamaki chuckled out loud at that, blushing, as he suddenly had a brilliant idea.

Suneater: That would be nice. Wait here a second.

He scurried off to a patch of flowers he had blooming, and with a shovel, picked up a few in your favorite color before making his way back over and dropping them in front of you.

Suneater: You can start by planting a few of these around your island. It is your favorite color, right?

Now it was your turn to blush as you picked up the (f/c) flowers he dropped in front of you, smiling like a goon at his burst of confidence. How he remembered your favorite color is beyond you, but hey- you weren’t complaining.

G/T: They’re perfect, thank you Tama!

Suneater: You're welcome. I’ll see you tomorrow?

And on that note you walked down to the airport, his avatar following close behind as if to see you off. It was a simple gesture, but appreciated nonetheless.
