The Jingle Jangle Shamble
So this was a prompt sent in by @lucyyannabel ! Hope you enjoy love!
Prompt - Betty turns to Jingle Jangle in order to stay awake and find out the identity of the Black Hood. Two days after beginning to take the drug, Jughead finds her in the Blue&Gold shaking to the point where she can’t even hold a pen, looking utterly exhausted. He quickly discovers the source of Betty’s trembling.
Betty felt like she was drowning. The air had been kicked out of her lungs and she had no safety rope to latch onto. There was nothing that could pull her up to the surface. The only thing she ever wanted now hates her. The look he gave her broke her heart in two. She wanted desperately to hold him close and tell him it was all a lie but she didn’t have the right to. She couldn’t put his life at risk for such a selfish reason.
She hadn’t slept in a week, she was weak. The sound of the lollipop theme tune engrained in her brain, keeping her from closing her eyes for more than a few seconds at a time. At first, she drank coffee and drank energy drinks to keep herself awake. She was fully aware of the risks but she knew what she was doing. She stayed up all day and all night, never stopping once. At first she was only researching lightly. But the more she heard about Jughead the harder she worked herself. Her main aim was to discover who the black hood was. She didn’t know how, but she knew she had to do it. Not just for her, but for the people who died and the people who have been hurt by this predator.
The thought had never crossed her mind before, it never would have. But the energy that she saw at Veronica’s party only made her indulge the idea more. It was harmless, she wouldn’t have too much. It’s a onetime thing.
And so, as evident as ever, the onetime thing turned into a bedtime ritual. Betty thought she could stop whenever she wanted, she knew she had good self-control. She would never let drugs control her. Right? Wrong. Betty couldn’t stop herself from using the drug as an escape. Her usual tight ponytail transformed into a curly mess of golden waves, being a good hiding spot for her red rimmed eyes to back away from direct contact with anything else. Betty couldn’t focus on her grades, her friends didn’t care about her anymore, Betty was spiralling and no one noticed. Well, not until now.
Betty had been hiding out in the Blue and Gold offices for most of her time at school. The dusty office reminded her of the good times with her and Jughead before any of this crazy mess happened. She likes to stand and watch certain spaces, acting out in her head the stages of Jughead falling in love with her. A stray tear fell from her eye as she was staring at the very spot where Jughead’s desk used to be. Before he ultimately left her.
Betty was writing up some drafts for a new issue of the paper but her hands were shaking too much. She couldn’t tell if it was from the drugs, the lack of sleep or the dull ache in her heart whenever the thought of Jughead crosses her mind. She just sits and stares for a while, letting herself fall back into the warm memories of the first time Jughead kissed her, the first time Jughead held her hand, the first time Jughead called her his girlfriend and the first time Jughead said he loved her.
“I love you,  Betty Cooper.” “I love you,  Betty Cooper.” “I love you,  Betty Cooper.” “I love you,  Betty Cooper.” “I love you,  Betty Cooper.” The words replayed over and over again in her head. Her mind was spinning with pictures of his smile, the way he held her waist, the kisses he would leave just behind her ear. Everything was so familiar.
“Jughead Jones, I love you.” She spoke out to the empty desk chair opposite her.  She attempted to pick up the pen again, her whole body wracking and uncontrollable. She closed her eyes and prayed for some control. Control.
“Betts?” A rush of urgency was filled in that voice. The same voice that occupied her thoughts at that very moment. If he wasn’t in a Serpent jacket, Betty might have thought that it was her mind playing tricks on her. But inevitably, he was stood 6 feet away from her, a look of panic etched on his features. She had no words to speak, her body shivered at a faster rate, craving a release.
“I-I- I’m sorry Juggie.” Betty stuttered over her words, her head feeling very dizzy suddenly. In an instant Jughead was at her side, catching her before she fell to the floor unconscious. Her body was still shaking but she was unresponsive. He screamed for help, ripping his phone from his back pocket and dialling 911. All he could do was hold her tight and cry into the hair atop her head.
Jughead couldn’t remember much of what happened after that. It was all a blur of tears, paramedics and a hospital waiting room. She’d been in the recovery room for almost 2 hours now. No one was allowed to see her. Alice and Hal had rushed from work to the hospital. Upon finding Jughead crying in a hospital chair, Alice said no words but pulled him into an embrace, letting her own tears flow freely. Alice may be stone cold, but she’s not heartless.
“I’m so sorry I couldn’t get there sooner and I didn’t see the signs. If she dies I don’t know how I’ll cope. I love Betty more than I’ve ever loved anything.” Jughead sobbed, the shaking of his body much like Betty’s. He hoped to the Lord above that she would pull through. Alice only stroked his hair, keeping him in her arms until he calmed down. He wondered if this was what having a mother was like. Maybe something close would do.
“Family of Elizabeth Cooper?” A man in scrubs walked down the hallway, searching for the Cooper family in question. Hal stood up immediately, ushering the man over. “She’s stable; the drug mixed with the exhaustion caused her to have a seizure. We managed to reduce the drug level in her blood but right now she’s resting. You can go in and see her I’ll just need a parent or guardian to come and sign some paperwork for me?” Everyone sighed in relief, she was stable and that’s all the mattered. Hal offered to go and sign the paperwork whilst Alice and Jughead rushed to Betty’s room.
“She looks so frail. So drained of life.” Alice cried quietly, walking over to the bed Betty was asleep on. She wasn’t wrong. Betty’s skin was a whiter shade of pale, her hair looked messy, and she looked weak. “That’s not my Betty. Someone has to have forced her. There has to be another side of the story.” Alice sat next to Betty’s bed, grasping Betty’s cold hand in her own. Jughead followed in suit, mumbling agreeance before seating himself on the opposite side of Betty.
Not much more was said that night. Alice and Jughead slept beside Betty in their respective chairs whilst Hal had volunteered to take the floor. All of them waiting for Betty to wake up. And when she did, she told them the truth.
“The black hood’s been harassing me for a few weeks. He made me cut off Veronica and Jughead. He said that if I didn’t he’d-“Betty stopped, looking at her hands as if any of this was her fault. “He said he would kill them. I had no choice. I was so alone and I figured if I found out who the Black Hood was then I could get back to Juggie quicker.” She paused again, glancing at Jughead who squeezed her hand reassuringly, giving her a loving stare. “I started to take Jingle Jangle to stay awake. I was prepared to do anything if it meant getting my life back quicker. Then this happened and I’m so sorry.” Betty sobbed lightly.
“Betty this isn’t your fault. None of this was you baby.” Alice placed a kiss on Betty’s head, laying her down and tucking her in. “Try to get some more sleep. We’ll be here when you wake up.” Betty nodded at her mother and then looked at Jughead.
“Can I have a minute to talk to Jughead? Alone?” Betty sat up, ready to face whatever came next. Jughead smiled lightly as Alice and Hal both kissed Betty on the head and then left the room, promising to bring back coffee and some real food.
“Betts, I love you. I didn’t stop loving you and I promise that I’m never going to. You don’t need to protect me. I’ll keep you safe, I promise.” Jughead held onto Betty’s hand staring into her emerald eyes with every word he spoke. Trying to prove to her in some poetic way that he meant everything he said. “You gave me one hell of a scare; I never wanna be without you again. Okay?” He tucked a loose strand of hair behind her ear. Betty smiled tiredly.
“Okay.” She uttered out, kissing him for the briefest second and laying back down to get some rest. Jughead stroked her hair until he was sure she was asleep. Watching her chest rise and fall at a steady rate reminded him that this was all going to be okay. He has Betty. She’s alive and the Black Hood has another thing coming if he thinks that Jughead if ever going to leave Betty’s side again.
He was a man in love.

do you know the bughead fic where betty is moving into an apartment with Jughead and betty and veronica are penpals and veronica's parents adopted jughead?
YES! I know this fic. I read it not too long ago - there are only one or two chapters of it. BUT I have freaking spent the last four hours trying to find it and I’m coming up empty. I KNOW I’ve read it though. Can anyone else just remember off the top of their head? Help a Buggie out please.
And the HERO OF THE HOUR is the fabulous @squila310 for figuring out that the fic in question is Twist of Fate by thatonelucky - and I literally would never have found it because the story on Ao3 doesn’t have a summary - so my searches were coming up with NOTHING - and then I didn’t have it subscribed - so the four+ hours I have spent going through my 21 pages of fic subscriptions were in vain.
If I could send you brownies, @squila310 - I would! You rock! Thank you for helping!

Here you go Nonnie! Hope you enjoy :))
The Serenity of Seclusion
It hadbeen no secret that Betty and Jughead were the couple that everyone thoughtwould break up within a day or two. The fact they had been going strong for afew months baffled their peers. All anyone could see was a loner outsider fromthe wrong side of the tracks and a hot blonde cheerleader who’s the epitome ofperfection. Though, that was from the outside.
Truthbe told, the pair had a lot more in common on a deep level. What you see is notalways what you get. Jughead had issues growing up, Betty had issues growing upand though they may not be the exact same situation, it affected them bothequally. Through Jughead’s personal vendetta against love and Betty’sself-hatred, the roots are even.
Sometimesbeing in a relationship with the outsiders being so involved, it’s hard tocope. Everyone thinks that they know you and they treat you like they knowwhat’s best. They think they’re so sure of what goes on in your head that theytake it upon themselves to let the whole world know how horrible you are foreach other. All in all, high school sucks.
Thatwasn’t the hardest challenge to face for the pair. There have been much worseobstacles. The biggest one so far being Jughead’s new ‘Serpent Prince’ title. It wasn’t a huge problem, Betty could deal with it. The only thing she caresabout is the amount of time he spends at the Whyte Worm. They barely have timefor each other anymore.
Thatbeing said, the pair came up with a solution to meet in private at SweetwaterRiver whenever they can. Usually, that means every Wednesday and Sunday. Thisplan worked quite well, it was secluded. They weren’t being constantly examinedby prying eyes like they were some kind of caged circus act. The Freak and thePsycho. What a perfect duo.
At thisvery moment, the pair were cuddling close on a midsummer’s afternoon. Jugheadhad arrived late, again. Allegedly the gang had kept him behind for a half hourtoo long, bugging him about where he was going. Betty didn’t mind, she liked tosit by the river and think by herself. The river had quickly become one of herfavourite spots.
“I’venever felt this calm before.” Jughead spoke slowly into the nape of Betty’sneck. Though she sighed happily in response, a part of her felt sorrow. Shealways thought about how he deserved a better life. He deserved better thanher. In all honesty, Jughead deserved the world but he lets people give himonly buckets of dirt.
“Youmake me calm.” Betty smiled out to the river. At the moment, her back wasresting on the front of his chest as they both lazily sprawled out in thegrass. The river’s currents were slow and steady, the water glistening abeautiful shade of blue under the light of the sun. There were no winds, nobirds and best of all, no one else. The peaceful serenity of seclusion.
Jugheadtightened his grip on Betty, rocking her slightly. Betty’s eyes closed in asafe reassurance, Jughead’s arms acting a safety barrier. She always felt mostat peace when she was wrapped up in his arms; there was nothing that made herfeel more at peace with the world.
Inthese moments the pair usually recapped their days but sometimes they would layin a comfortable silence. This was momentarily one of those times, but Bettyneeded to tell Jughead what happened today. She couldn’t hold it in any longer.
“Cheryl’sdating Toni.” Betty blurted out. He probably knew already but it was worthtalking about. Betty knew nothing about Toni’s sexuality but she does know thatCheryl is pansexual. She wished she had spotted the pairing sooner. Jugheaddidn’t tense up or act shocked in any way so he must’ve known.
“Yeah,Toni told me this morning. I’m happy for her, she’s never had the courage todate a girl before but she’s always wanted to.” Jughead spoke out, the prideheavy and evident in his words. “She struggled for so long, y’know. Toni, shefound it so difficult finding herself. She amazes me.” Jughead was fond ofToni. She’d quickly climbed her way up in Jughead’s list of people he canstand. Betty was obviously at the top, but Toni was a close 3rd.
“Is shegay?” Betty asked, not in a harsh way. She was generally interested. Jugheadhad said something last week about Toni’s uncle kicking her out of her trailerso she had to crash with him. Betty was fine with it; she knew Jughead wouldn’tdo anything to put their relationship in jeopardy. Jughead was quick torespond.
“Nah,she’s bi. Her uncle found out last week and kicked her out. That’s why she’sstaying with me. I only found out about Cheryl when I found a diamond earringunder my couch.” He chuckled lightly. Betty felt the vibrations through herback, making her giggle slightly at the way Jughead must’ve looked. “I almosthad an aneurism. I thought my trailer was a diamond mine.” Jughead joked, snuggling further in to Betty. Both of them laughing out loud at the image. “No,Betts I’m serious. I called up the contractors and everything!”
“Oh no,I’m sure they were devastated.” Betty quipped back, craning her neck to face thebeanie clad boy. Their stare was an intense lock of passion and humour whichdescribed their relationship perfectly. Jughead leaned in first, catching Betty’ssoft lips with his own. The kiss lasted no longer than a few seconds but led toa harder lock of passion.
Thingswere starting to get heated, hands roaming over bodies. Jughead had his handsunder Betty’s shirt, running his hand over the exposed skin, reacting towardsher bralette. He would’ve gone further if not for a gasp coming from thebushes. The two sprang apart immediately. Jughead ran into action, charging atthe bushes only to have 6 bodies jump out at him at the same time.
“Whatthe hell, Sweet Pea!” Jughead shouted in exasperation, incredibly frustratedthat he had been interrupted so rudely. The other 5 men were also Serpents.Specifically, the 6 he was with before he left for the river. Did they followhim here? He was feeling violated but at the same time he found the situation mildlyfunny.
“Sothis is where you’ve been sneaking off to?” Sweet Pea pranced over to Betty, swinging an arm casually around her shoulders. At this point, her face was beetred and her hair was still a ruffled mess. During the commotion she had managedto smooth down her clothing, though they doubt it would’ve made the situationlook any less innocent.
“Yeah, Princey.Sneaking off for a little rendezvous ey?”  Joaquin spoke from the group behind Jughead. He walked over and patted his back, sending him a teasing smirk. “Atta boy.” Hecongratulated, sending the Serpents and even Betty into fits of laughter.
“Hey,hey calm it down. I’m a grown boy.” Jughead winked over to Betty, confidencesuddenly coursing through his veins. He didn’t even know if Betty could turnany redder but again, she did the impossible. Her head hung low inembarrassment. She knew he was only joking but she was very prude.
“Okay, well we’ve got all we came for. See you later, Princey.” Sweet Pea walked overfrom Betty and patted Jughead’s shoulder. “Remember, use a condom. We don’tneed any serpent ba-“He was abruptly cut off with Jughead’s hand clasping overhis mouth. Jughead could literally feel him grinning.
“Gotit, see you guys later.” Jughead gritted, starting to feel even more awkwardthan before. The serpents left swiftly, going back from where they came.Jughead walked over and wrapped Betty up in his arms. She hid her face in thelining of Jughead’s serpent jacket, wanting to just melt away. He placed asmall kiss on her head and smiled into her hair.
“I loveyou, Betts.” He spoke, feeling a sense of urgency to let her know that. Bettylifted her head to meet the gaze of her boyfriend’s. She didn’t think she couldever be happier than she already was but yet again, her theory has been provenwrong. Some of the happiest moments in her life would be hearing Jughead saythose 4 words. Nothing could ever mean more.

The Ache Only A Heart Can Take
I’m back! I haven’t written anything in months and I had a sudden burst of needing to write this so enjoy! Also, I’m hopefully going to be updating Twist of Fate soon! Watch this space ;)
Click here to read on A03
She knew that the feeling was wrong. Nothing was right about the abundant mass that weighed heavily in her heart, making her feel sick to her stomach at any given opportunity. Her eyes grew heavy as if she had taken one too many sleeping aids, but she knows that she’s drunk with exhaustion, maybe drunk in general.
Betty had never been the one to pick up a drink, let alone neck one too many back in a grimy pub on the outskirts of town. Her pastel skirt and cashmere sweater stood out against the mounds of dirty leather and greasy hair. She would’ve cared if this was any other circumstance. There was nothing indifferent about the ripped material covering the seat of the bar stools or the chipped wood that blistered her porcelain skin with any slight movement.
New York had been a rough move; anyone could have told her this. But the situation was fucked and there was nothing else she could’ve done. Running away was the only option she had right now. Granted, she had imagined it a slightly different way. People change, plans change, everything changes and the sooner she came to terms with that, the sooner she could move on with her life. That’s if she could ever move on.
They had a plan, much like her older sister had a plan. If there’s one thing Betty could take away from the family curse it’s that happiness doesn’t come. You’re left to fend for yourself in a limbo of self-loathing and loneliness. It wasn’t supposed to be this way. They had a plan.
Betty rubbed at her temples, growing more agitated the longer that she thought about it. This was all his fault. The black hood swooped in and made her destroy the one good thing in her life. She should be blaming the black hood, but she can’t help from blaming Jughead. He didn’t even talk to her to see if it was true, he just took Archie’s word for it and jumped straight on to Toni instead. He was supposed to love her.
Her fist slammed back down to the table. He loved just like his mother. Tap out when it gets too hard and quit when you’re a step away from the finish line. Her legs were aching but she wasn’t able to notice before she reached out to grab her whisky glass. She used to grimace at the potent stench and deem it unholy. With that exact thought in her mind, she brought the glass to her lips and took another gulp, sucking every last drop from the bottom of the glass.
By now her vision was a swirling mess of colours and people that she’d never see again. Their unfamiliar faces never burning into her mind. Sat here, she was as insignificant as them. They didn’t look at her and think of perfection or the blossom blood flowing through her veins. She used to think that Jughead looked at her and saw more than that. But maybe all he saw was a fragile girl and an opportunity too good to pass. Betty Cooper’s a buffet, take what you want and go. She chuckled to no one in particular. What a pitiful life.
“I’m cutting you off. Maybe go home and sleep some off.” The bartender smiled sweetly at Betty almost patronisingly. She had to be in her 30’s with auburn hair fashioned in a frizzy bob with delicate features. Her warm brown eyes acted as a second smile that Betty hailed with open arms, quite literally.
“Ooo, thank you Sylv, you’re the only one who cares!” Betty deprecated to the woman across from her. Sylvia rubbed Betty’s back smiling into her shoulder. The embrace was swiftly cut off when Sylvia walked around the other side of the bar, hoisting Betty up onto her feet. “M’ good. I got this. Thanks again.” Betty was far from sober but she knew she could get to her uncles apartment in one bit.
“No worries Betty sweet, take care of yourself.” Sylvia helped her out of the door and then resumed her bartending duties. Betty knew all of the staff here, she’d become accustom to trudging towards this very bar every day after work to drown her sorrows in a drink. She wasn’t an alcoholic, she’s gone weeks without a drink and been fine. But there was a sense of comfort in forgetting that your life is a downward spiral that destroys anything and everything good in its path.
The walk home was a scenic route, the winter air left a sharp bite in the air but she couldn’t feel it. The cars passing left a scent of burning petrol in the air, one too many needed a new exhaust in Betty’s opinion. Life was at a standstill, the whistling of the air through the trees left her feeling dizzier than she was previously. The only thing running through her mind was that they had plans. Real plans. She ran her fingers through her golden locks, wishing to pull them back into a tight pony tail but not having the heart to.
The first time Betty and Jughead had talked about a future together was in 2nd grade when the kids got a visit from the local dog shelter. All of the kids took part in a fundraiser to promote adopting the dogs in the shelter and donating to ensure that they could carry on saving lives. It was one hell of a day, Betty had played with almost a hundred dogs but one caught her eye. The golden retriever must have been a foot smaller than Betty, licking her face at any given chance.
“Winston! That’s my nose you silly puppy!” Betty giggled cheerfully to the golden dog. Jughead had found himself gravitating to the soft laughter, finding a comfort in the melodic sounds of his best friend. They played happily with him for a while until Jughead spoke up.
“Betts, when we’re older can we have our own Winston?” Jughead’s eyes went wide with hope. Betty smiled down at him and ruffled the beanie on top of his head. Later on Winston was sold to a loving family, but Betty knew that one day she could have her own Winston with Jughead and it would be perfect.
Betty smiled at the thought of her young mind believing that everything could turn out right. A stray tear leaked from Betty’s eye as she walked through the gardens and into her uncle’s apartment complex. The warm surroundings of the lobby couldn’t melt Betty’s ice cold heart. She begged herself to stay calm but nothing could keep the agonizing pain from stabbing at her chest, leaving her bleeding on the floor.  The was the ache that only a heart could take.
“Betty, you have a visitor.” Her uncle James knocked on her bedroom door, waking her up from her slumber. She had always hoped that the last few months of her life had been a dream, but she always woke up in the same place. Betty grumbled into her pillow.
“I’ll be out in a minute. Tell Veronica to put her bags outside the door.” Betty sighed heavily. Veronica had known about her plan to leave Riverdale and helped her to make it happen. In turn, Veronica stays with Betty in the Holidays. She had refused to let her best friend leave her side forever. Though, since there had been no more murders after Betty had left, she doubted she would ever return to Riverdale.
“Okay, where should the ginger put his cases?” Uncle James smirked as Betty flew out of bed and straight into the living room. James wasn’t lying, right before her eyes stood Archie and Veronica drinking tea with James’s husband, Rafael. They all seemed focused on the conversation they were having, not yet noticing Betty’s arrival.
“Yeah, I mean it’s Betty’s choice. That kids happy to wait 100 years for her.” Archie chuckled lowly, a look of guilt on his face. Betty wondered for a moment who they were talking about but soon put 2 and 2 together. She stepped out from around the corner and faced the 3 of them.
“Who?” Betty’s voice croaked loudly as 3 heads snapped to face her. Veronica smiled widely and ran to hug Betty. Archie followed in suit, squeezing the life out of his friend. Betty was only focused on one thing. “Who, Archie?  What’s going on?” Betty stepped out of the embrace. Archie had a sheepish look on his face before he spoke up.
“Jughead. He’s, uh, in the bathroom.” The world started to spin and not like last night. Betty’s head was spiralling with words and questions that wouldn’t have answers. Her body went numb at the thought of seeing him again. She couldn’t breathe. Everything got worse a few seconds later when she heard the bathroom door open down the hall. There was nothing she could do. Why was he here? Why now? After everything that he did to her, why is he here?
“Betts?” The voice that she had been dreaming of spoke from behind her. She couldn’t face turning around. After months of her thinking he’s completely forgotten about her, he’s behind her. “Betts, look at me. Please.” He begged her, the sense of urgency in his voice pleading for her to just look at him but she can’t.
“We’ll give you two a minute.” Rafael ushered Archie and Ronnie along with their bags to Betty’s room. The closing of the door was the only sound that could be heard. Nothing was said. Nothing could be said. What was there to talk about? Betty risked everything to protect Jughead whilst he skipped off with Toni. Betty sat in the nearest chair, her eyes trained on the curling of her fist forcing her knuckles to go white.
“Archie told me everything. About the, uh, the black hood calling you. And what he made you do.” Jughead’s voice cracked with sadness, his intense stare burning into Betty’s chest. He knew the truth, that’s why he’s here. She feels guilty enough as it is, the guilt eats her alive. “Betty just say something, anything, please.” His plea didn’t go unnoticed.
“You didn’t even call me, or text me to see if it was true. You just blindly believed anything Archie said. Then I saw you with Toni at pops. I was nothing to you.” Betty seethed. She was flaming with rage, the closure she had dreamed off finally being given to her. Jughead didn’t look shocked at her outburst.
“I know.” He whispered. These words were only making Betty angrier. She wanted to scream and shout at him in an attempt to dull the ache in her heart but all she could do was cry. She just cried exactly like she had been doing for the past 8 months. “Hey, Betts no, no don’t cry.” Jughead reached over and she let him. She rested her head in the nape of his neck and it felt like home. It felt like the most home she’d been in a while. He smelled the same, he looked the same and he felt the same.
“Why didn’t you love me?”  Betty sobbed into his chest. Jughead felt his heart shatter in to a million pieces once again. He loved Betty with every inch of his soul, Betty is his anchor. Without her, his world stops turning and he knows he’s done wrong. He was hurting so much and Toni was there.
“I never stopped loving you, Betts. Are you kidding? You’re all I have.” Jughead let a few tears slip, putting his palms on Betty’s cheeks and lifting her eyes to lock with his. Many unspoken words were said between the two. Communication is key to any relationship and that was made apparent on that night. Things didn’t go back to normal straight away. People were hurt, times were tough. But Betty knows that at the end of the day, Jughead is the one she wants to sleep next to every night and wake up with every morning. And that’s all that matters.

The Only Girl He Didn’t Hate
Jughead’s woman hating tendencies have left Gladys feeling like he’s never going to grow up. As she starts to push harder and harder at him, he and his best friend, Betty Cooper, devise a plan to throw his mother off completely.
Read on A03
Sometimes Jughead wondered why he still lived with his mother. His dad would never force this kind of attitude on him, he taught him to embrace how he felt. But what Gladys thought was right just had to be right. Like Jughead taking off his beanie every once in a while or getting a girlfriend.
Girls weren’t Jughead’s strong suit; he was the woman hater of the nation. No woman would ever slip into his life and tear it apart. Girls were a waste of time and girls were too needy. Jughead was a self-identified loner; he doesn’t do well with clinginess and love. He never had a good representation of love growing up. Gladys and FP fought every day for years until they finally decided to divorce.
The only girl that Jughead had ever bothered with was Betty Cooper. Not by choice, of course. Betty had somehow wormed her way into his life, always radiating sunshine in the darkest of days. Funnily enough, Betty was the exact opposite of what Jughead thought himself as. He was the darkness and the plague of sadness. Betty Cooper, however, was nowhere near it.
Betty was the golden haired cheerleader that everyone fell in love with. She could light up an entire city with just one smile. Her preppy and peppy attitude was almost infectious. Almost being the key word. Jughead had to admit, he would often find himself naturally smiling around her, but more often than not, he kept his signature grimace. He had a reputation to uphold.
Their friendship hadn’t started on the best of terms, that being completely Jughead’s fault. Being paired up for an English assignment and having one half of the pair do nothing at all was completely frustrating. It’s not that Jughead didn’t want to help; he just hated the idea behind the assignment so refused to do it. He almost got away with staying in that frame of mind until Betty showed up at his door, refusing to leave until he finished off what he had started.
He should’ve felt mildly irritated by her presence, like he is with all company. However, Betty had a certain way about her that left Jughead confronted by his own emotions betraying him. He found himself wanting to spend more time with her, a feeling of warmth drawing him in. Betty didn’t complain; truthfully Jughead was the only person who saw her as more than just a pretty girl in a short skirt.
That’s how their meetings became more frequent. Betty would go to Jughead’s house and either help him with his homework or help to babysit his baby sister, Jellybean. Jughead was never too big on people asking questions about his family. But watching Betty make Jellybean’s smile reach her eyes, he found himself telling her everything.
Betty had confided in Jughead for the first time on Polly’s birthday. She hadn’t spoken to anyone about Polly, brushing off any comment as a rumour. Truth being that Polly had fell pregnant and run away with her high school sweetheart, Jason Blossom, without so much as a goodbye. Betty had told Jughead about her parents and how controlling they were. How it was driving her crazy.
That’s how they became the talk of the school, the most unlikely duo coming together. Sitting together at lunch instead of at separate tables, moving seats in classes to be next to each other and even walking home from school together. Needless to say, everyone in Riverdale High was 100% sure that they were together.
Gladys was absolutely besotted with Betty and rightly so. Betty would be at Jughead’s house almost every single day. She would force Jughead to help with the cleaning and very often she would join in herself. Gladys was sure she was an angel sent from heaven for Betty Cooper could not be real. Sometimes Jughead had that thought too.
“You will not believe what my mother did this time!” Jughead came storming into the Blue and Gold offices, clearly vexed about something that had happened previous. Betty had been sat at her desk, typing up the final scores for the Bulldogs last away game for the paper. They hadn’t done as well as expected, which of course was a shame seeing as she knew how hard Archie and Reggie trained the team.
“Let me guess, threw away your hidden tin of rare Pokémon cards.” Betty tried not to laugh at the ludicrous story he had told her last week. For a 17 year old boy, he was very invested in his Pokémon card collection. He scoffed at her remark, sending over a glare as he threw himself onto the couch. Clearly he wasn’t in the mood for jokes.
“No, worse. Way worse. She tried to set me up on a play date with Ethel Muggs!” Jughead threw his head back in frustration. His mother had been trying to set him up for weeks now, demanding that he at least needs to give it a go before he declares his hatred of girls to the entire world.
“To be fair, Jug, she’s only helping you explore your options before you write them off completely.” Betty defended Gladys, knowing her only intentions were to see her son happy. Betty had many secret conversations with Gladys whilst waiting for Jughead to get home from work. They often spoke about how they were both feeling; Jughead’s mother acted more like a mother to Betty than Alice did.
“Why can’t she just accept that I hate every woman except from her, Jellybean and you?” Jughead groaned, propping his head up on the side of the couch and staring at Betty who was still typing away at her laptop. She’d had this conversation with Jughead all too many times. “What if I could get her off of my back some way?” Betty instantly stopped typing, knowing where this was going. Jughead’s teasing voice could only mean one thing.
“Are you suggesting what I think you are?” Betty smirked slightly, amused by how desperate Jughead was acting just so that he could be alone forever. He stepped up from the couch and walked around behind Betty’s desk. Getting down on one knee, he dramatically inhaled.
“Betty Cooper, will you make me the happiest man alive and be my fake girlfriend?” Jughead declared, speaking a little louder than he normally would’ve. Betty laughed out loud, falling back in her chair. She was at a loss here; she wouldn’t be able to let down her best friend. It didn’t have to be for too long anyways.
“Jughead Jones, it would be an honour.” Betty too, spoke dramatically; an essence of innocence in the lining of this completely idiotic plan. Jughead gave Betty a quick wink before whipping out his phone and facetiming Gladys, who picked up on the 3rd ring.
“Mom! She said yes!” Jughead exclaimed to his mother who Betty could hear was far too happy on the other line. She started to feel bad about this whole idea, giving Gladys false hope just so Jughead could go free. “Okay, see you at 7!” He swiftly ended the call, turning to Betty with a cocky smirk.
“You asshole! This was all planned! You’re going to leave all the explaining to me?” Betty stood quickly and smacked her beanie wearing friend in the arm. He retaliated almost instantly, grabbing her arm before it could come in contact with his body. She would’ve been impressed if she wasn’t being crushed by the crippling worry of how Gladys was going to react if she messed up.
Betty had come accustom to being at Jughead’s house more than her own, she didn’t want to lose that by upsetting Gladys. Gladys was special to Betty now, like a 2nd mother. Jughead knew this and understood how much Betty relied on his family. He also knew Betty too well to know how uncomfortable she was feeling.
“Hey, Betts. Look I’ll call in sick if you really want me to but Pop is counting on me tonight.” Jughead crouched down, reaching Betty’s level and grabbed her hands. He stroked his thumb over the back of her knuckles, hoping to give her some form of comfort. The truth is, he only made sure he had work today just so he could avoid any awkward conversations.
“It’s okay, she won’t expect us to do anything weird.” Betty attempted to calm herself down, knowing that there was no way it was going to happen. Gladys had spoken to Betty before about dating Jughead and truthfully she wasn’t against the idea. But she knew that Jughead had never looked at a girl in that way before. He seemed to like being single and that’s good for him. Betty was pretty sure he was aromantic but his mother wasn’t fond on that idea.
That’s how Betty found herself sat on the Jones’s couch with a cup of hot chocolate and Gladys going on and on about how happy she was. Betty wanted to be happy knowing how excited Gladys was that Betty could be a legal part of the family one day. She’d always been considered a daughter to Gladys anyways but she’d expected to be having this conversation when the real day came. But it was never going to come.
“I’m just so happy Betty darling; I always hoped that Jughead’s heart was set on you. You’re the most incredible young lady I’ve ever met.” Gladys stroked Betty’s hair, feeling a comfort with two out of three of her favourite people cuddled into her side. Jellybean on one side and Betty on the other.
It wasn’t unusual for Betty to lean into Gladys’s side. Betty had found herself like that most nights when Jughead was working late. Whilst talking about what crazy meltdown her mother had that morning or what Cheryl decided to torment her with that day always left Betty so deflated. Gladys was especially good at cheering her up. This is why she could tell that Betty didn’t seem as excited as she was letting on.
“I’m so sorry, Gladys.” Betty spoke quietly, a stray tear falling from her eye as she cuddled closer. Gladys continued stroking her hair, her heart breaking a little bit at the sadness laced in Betty’s voice.
“I know, honey. You look very deflated today, is that why?” Gladys’s words cut deep in Betty’s heart and before she knew it she was doing what she always does, spilling her heart out for Gladys, who sat with open ears. Betty spoke about how she thought that this day would come once Jughead had decided he didn’t hate girls anymore or when she had the courage to tell Jughead how she really felt.
“Betts, I don’t know what Jug did to deserve you.” Jellybean spoke quietly, her eyes fixed on the TV in front of her. Jellybean rarely intervened when Betty was upset as she had no idea what to say. She was only 11 at this point. She was too young to understand relationships and feelings but she knew Betty very well.
“Thank you, Jelly. But I feel like it’s the other way around.” Betty deprecated, feeling a dull ache in her heart. Gladys was still silently stroking her hair, trying to find the words to justify her son’s actions. She had none.
“I only pushed him so that maybe he’d realise what he had already.” Gladys pulled Betty a little closer. “You.” Betty perked up slightly at her words, pride running through her veins. Gladys had always approved of Betty being in Jughead’s life but she always wanted it to be more and she was sure that Jughead did too.
A few weeks ago she had found some of Jughead’s writing and was so sure it was about Betty. He was explaining love but the blonde hair and the emerald eyes that he so deeply explained couldn’t have been anyone else. She wanted to tell Betty but her meddling hadn’t done any good so far and she likes having Betty around.
Once Jughead had come home, he was welcomed by the warm sight of his 3 favourite girls cuddled up on the couch watching some cheesy romantic movie on Netflix. Betty looked happier than when he last saw her which he took as a good sign. Upon his arrival, Gladys had ushered herself and Jellybean out of the room and up the stairs into Jelly’s room. She gave Jughead a quick kiss on the cheek before she walked up the stairs, throwing Betty a quick wink.
Gladys had told Betty to talk to Jughead about how she felt, adamant that he would rather find out from her than anyone else. Betty hadn’t expected Jughead to reappreciate the feelings that she had, so there was nothing she could lose. She knew he wouldn’t cut her off because of it; he wasn’t like that.
“Jug, can I talk to you for a minute?” Betty stood up, wiping her palms nervously against her jeans. Suddenly, she felt like she was the size of an ant under Jughead’s intense and confused stare. He nodded his head and sat in the chair across from her.
Jughead deemed this as the moment where Betty Cooper was officially going to realize that he isn’t good enough for her and cut him off. He’d been fearing it for a long while now, not trusting how smooth things were going for him right now.  The slight quiver in his body signalled for Betty to say something.
“Are you dropping me?” Jughead spoke quietly, the evident crack in his voice showing just how insecure he was feeling in that moment. Betty wanted to be fast at responding but she didn’t know how. “Betts, please don’t leave me.” Betty risked a look at Jughead’s face only to see he already had a salty trail of tears lining his face.
“Are you crazy? Juggie, that’s the very last thing I want to do.” Betty found a stroke of courage, reaching over his cradled body to wipe away some of the tears that were still leaking from his eyes. He was usually quick to catch her hand, attempting to prevent her from smashing any of his masculinity. But this time he let her comfort him. “I can’t go through with the plan, I can’t pretend.”
Jughead’s heart still deflated a little bit at her words. He’d wanted to at least pretend his dreams could come true. That Betty could really find someone like Jughead a worthy match for her. She fit into his life too perfectly. Something had to go wrong at some point.
“Uh, yeah. Yeah, that’s cool.” Jughead sniffled, moving away from Betty’s hands and leaning back in the chair. He couldn’t act like he wasn’t disappointed. He was thoroughly disappointed. “Yeah, we can just go back to how it was.” Jughead didn’t want that to happen at all.
“I don’t want that either.” Betty spoke slowly, she felt Jughead stiffen at her words. She knew he was going to take it the wrong way. His eyes hardened as he went to say something but never got the chance. Betty pressed a soft kiss to Jughead’s lips in an effort to silence him. She tore herself away from him a second after, thoroughly embarrassed that she had pulled a stunt like that on someone who trusted her. Jughead was silent.
“I’m so sorry.” Betty rushed out, flying up and gathering her stuff. She needed to get out right now; she couldn’t be around Jughead right now. With that, she ran out. She couldn’t go home and she couldn’t stay with Jughead. The only place she could go was Veronica’s. She felt truly alone in that moment, walk the streets only 5 minutes away from where her heart was laying on the floor.
“Betty!” She heard her name being called in the distance, not expecting it to be Jellybean who had obviously heard what had happened and ran after Betty. Betty spun around, quickly wiping her face. Once Jelly had approached Betty, she wrapped her arms around the blonde, trying to give her some form of comfort. “Please come back, Jughead’s really sad.” Betty felt saddened by that comment, wanting to go and comfort her friend.
“How about I walk you home and we’ll see what happens.” Betty tugged Jellybean into her side, walking with her to the house she had just run from. Jelly didn’t let go of Betty until they were stood at the Jones’ front door.
“Mom, I have Betty.” Jelly opened the door, revealing a sight that truly broke Betty into pieces. She had caused this. Jughead was curled up on the couch with Gladys who looked extremely frustrated. When her eyes landed on Betty, a small smile etched across her face. Jughead’s head snapped up at Jellybean’s words. He stood up immediately.
“Can you guys give us a minute?” Jughead walked over to Betty, pulling her into the house and shutting the door behind her. She didn’t bother resisting, this conversation had to come one day. She couldn’t run away. Gladys took Jelly’s hand, leading her up the stairs yet again to her room. There was no silence after they’d left.
“Did you mean it?” Jughead spoke with weary eyes. Betty fidgeted for a minute, wanting to say no but instead she nodded. Lying wouldn’t do anything but make matter worse. “Thank fuck.” Jughead embraced both sides of Betty’s face, swallowing hard. “Betty, you’re the only girl I don’t hate.” Just then, he leaned in and captured her mouth with his own. There was hesitation at first, but when Betty started to kiss back he pressed a little harder. Pulling away, Betty beamed up at Jughead.
“I don’t hate you too.” She spoke quietly against his lips, feeling drunk on her own emotions. They spoke about a lot that night, how they felt and how they could act on it. Gladys slept in her bed knowing that her son was happily laying downstairs with the girl of his dreams. The only girl he didn’t hate.

Twist of Fate - Chapter 6
I think I’m finally over my writers block! Updates probably won’t always be this regular but here’s to hoping!
Read on A03
Previous Chapter
The next few mornings had gone like the rest, the peaceful routine of morning breakfast and shared dinner conversations. On the odd occasion, Jughead would come home late from work ranting and raving about how a new intern ruined a whole spread and he had to stay late to finish it and re train the intern. It was all very domestic.
Right now was one of the nights Jughead was late home. He had text Betty an hour and a half ago saying that he had to stay a half hour later than usual. Meaning that he should be due home at any point now. Betty was in the living room, watching some low budget movie on Netflix and sipping on some expensive wine. Perks of living with a millionaire. Jughead was picking up dinner on the way home; they decided to have Chinese food. Betty couldn’t wait to sink her teeth into some spring rolls.
The blankets bundled around Betty soon had to been torn away when her phone started to ring from the coffee table. She wondered who would be calling at this time, it was almost 11pm. When she saw Jughead’s caller ID she realized he probably forgot her order. Swiping right, she put the phone to her ear. But before she could speak, a voice rang through the speakers.
“Hello, is this Miss. Cooper?” Jughead’s professional voice shocked Betty. She quickly composed herself, reaching over and placing the glass of wine on the table. She leaned back into the couch, pulling the blankets back over her body.
“Yes, this is her.” She replied nonchalantly, playing along with whatever game Jughead was playing. “Can I ask who’s calling?” Betty quipped, finding hilarity in the situation.
“It’s Mr. Jones-Lodge from The Blue and Gold. I was just calling to inform you that your new office got set up after a week of overtime by the very handsome Jughead and you start on Monday.” Betty sat in shock. He’d been staying for hours after work to get her office ready? He was too good to be true.
“I got the job?” Betty squeaked into the phone, a feeling of utter happiness filling up her body. She heard Jughead chuckle lowly, only just realizing that he was stood by the front door with a huge smirk on his face. He put the phone down and shoved it into his pocket. “I didn’t hear you come in.” Betty stood up, going to the kitchen with him in suit.
“What can I say? I’m quiet on my feet.” Jughead winked over, placing the bags of Chinese food on the breakfast bar. Betty was collecting the plates and cutlery when she ran into Jughead who inconveniently stood still behind her. He swiftly caught her and they ended up stared intently for a while. Neither roommate knew what to do next. Jughead could lie and say he didn’t feel anything but only a fool would believe he didn’t have a soul crushing urge to kiss her right now.
“Thank you, for the job. I won’t let you down.” She spoke quietly, not diverting her eyes for even a second before pressing a kiss to his cheek. Jughead wouldn’t want to admit it but it may be the first time he has felt himself blush in his life. He hadn’t known Betty long, he wasn’t going to be unrealistic and say that they could date anytime soon. But he really wanted to see where this could go. He’s in it for the long game.
“I wouldn’t doubt you for even a second.” Jughead pulled Betty into a quick hug before letting her resume to dishing up the food. He was drooling over the smell of the egg fried rice already. The ride home was one that really tested his patience. A small town car with a bag full of piping hot deliciousness? Count Jughead out.
Soon enough, the pair were sat on the couch, continuing whatever indie movie Betty was previously watching. Jughead was all for supporting up and coming indie movies, he admired the craft. It had always been a dream of his to publish a novel and have it turn in to a trending movie. Something that would show that not all authors are sell outs. His publication would be magnificent.
“Yknow, I really hate talentless acting but at the same time it makes me feel accomplished? Like at least I’m not doing this for a living.” Betty points out at the TV where the actress is being completely unconvincing whilst getting chased by some clown with a knife. It was generic but it was gold.
“Nah, you’re job’s way better anyways. Working with intelligence and beauty like me every single day.” Jughead was joking but Betty almost choked on her chicken ball. She couldn’t deny that Jughead was attractive; he was one of the most. But he was also her roommate who she’s known for all of 2 weeks. Thinking about him in this way so early on was dangerous.
Jughead clearly didn’t sense the tension in Betty’s body at the specific words, but he definitely heard her choking. The next thing Betty knew, Jughead was pounding his flat hand against her back, trying to bring up whatever got stuck. She didn’t know if this day could get any worse, but it did.
“I’m okay, I’m okay.” Betty throatily croaked, what a way to end a day. Choking on a chicken ball in front of your incredibly attractive boss / roommate. What a time to be alive. Jughead still looked slightly worried but sat back in his original seat, handing Betty her glass of wine. “Thank you.” She croaked out again, only to entirely miss grabbing the glass making its contents pour all over Betty’s white shirt! How ironic.
“Oh my god, Betty I’m so sorry!” Jughead jumped up and ran to go and grab some paper towels. He returned shortly, rubbing at her stained chest. Something in his mind must’ve finally clicked as he flew back, his hands only extending to give her the paper towels. His face was almost as red as Betty’s shirt. She found it cute.
“Hey, Juggie don’t worry. It was an accident. I needed a shower anyways.” Betty smiled sweetly at Jughead, earning a grin off of him. She got up and made her way to the hallway, turning around offering Jughead another smirk. “Goodnight, Jug.” She spoke across the room before making her way to her bedroom. Jughead sat on the couch and a thought crossed his mind.
Why is it that every time Betty leaves the room, he’s left completely speechless with a shit eating grin on his face.

You’re Not Going Crazy
Bit of a dark one here to act more as awareness. I’ve seen too many depictions of emotional abuse in relationships and I wanted to try and get that point across in a fic. I tried not to go into too much detail but if you are triggered by emotional abuse please do not read. Reliving it isn’t worth the heartache

Summary : Betty Cooper was a shy girl with a rocky reputation. Being on the South Side was tough, no male was interested in you unless your shirt was cut low and your jeans were skin tight. Betty preferred pastel skirts and leather jackets to cover herself up. Only making her more victim to the torturous game that North Sider, Chuck Clayton, forced her to play.A few diary enteries of psychological abuse, heartbreak and overcoming the sensation of a downward spiral.
The First Deprecation
I like to imagine how it would feel; I often sleep on the thought of how life would be if he saw me the way I saw him. To me, he is more than a person but less than a love, He is the midpoint between infatuation and passion that I just can’t get over. He is the light in a bad situation. He is the burning flame atop the candle. He is the pearl shining from the bottom of the ocean.
But worst of all, he is the migraine that won’t go away. He is the smoke that fills my lungs and leaves me breathless, needing more. He is the sickness plaguing my thoughts. He is the intense swirl of thoughts bombarding my brain and making me dizzy with fear.
When I close my eyes my brain runs wild, creating more hope and want in my heart which ends up being deflated by reality. I usually imagine how it would feel to fall asleep next to him and to have him in my arms. But I most like to imagine being able to call him in the middle of the night and talk to him until the early hours of the morning. Or being able to watch movies together and eat ice cream at 4am.
But when reality does come fighting back I become completely aware that none of this would ever happen. At least, not for us.
Everyone has someone that they can’t get away from. He is mine but I am not his. He closes his eyes to see a different person and that’s okay. I can’t force someone to love me. I can’t force someone to accept me. Everyone has someone and one day I will have a new someone; so will he. But it is never going to be each other.
Maybe writing this down and getting most of my feelings down will create an outlet for me to close my eyes and not see him anymore. Maybe it will make my chest ache less when he ignores me for days and comes back like it’s all okay. Maybe I’ll trust him again because he will never get close enough to hurt me again. Maybe I’ll fail and end up in the same position.
All I can do now is keep my distance and not let him get to me. Because I should never let someone make me unhappy. Especially if it’s something they cannot help. I can’t make him want to be around me or start conversations with me. It’s best if I stay away as much as possible.
The Endless Complaints and Threats
From time to time I still wonder why I’m around you. I’ve spent so long wondering if you even wanted me here and that isn’t right. I should know if you want me or if I get boring; if someone better came along.  I felt like you were all that I had and I sacrificed so much just to be with you. You say that you want to be with me and that I’m still your number 1 but I barely see you anymore and when I do you have to leave to go someplace else with her.
I’ve spent so long wondering why I was never good enough for you and then I realised, I never will be. Someone else is always going to be better. I shouldn’t feel like me messaging you is hassling you. Everything I do, I do to make you happy. I’ve spent years infatuated with you yet you’ve probably spent years infatuated with someone else. I feel like I’m wasting my time and energy on someone who will never feel the same way I do. I’m always the one who cares more.
Last night was the first time you’ve threatened physical abuse. I’d never gotten on my knees and begged any faster. I don’t want you to hate me; I love you.
The Refusal of a Rope
He doesn’t know how to help me because, simply, he doesn’t know me.  I slave myself almost every day in trying to understand how he feels, how he reacts and what makes him tick. But he only analyses when I’m happy or excited. He never bothers in identifying my sadness or my upset. This is because he doesn’t care. However, when it comes to her; the story changes for him because, as if by some cruel act of God, he cares.
I cried to him; he lied to me. As if some cruel chain of events looping infinitely, he just kept lying. Anything and everything wasn’t good enough. I’m too clingy yet I ignore him too often. I invade his personal space yet not hugging him makes him angry. I can’t have other friends but if I don’t speak to anyone I’m trying to steal his friends. I love him and he doesn’t love me.
He will never miss me.
 The First Goodbye of Four
Now it’s over and I know how much he lied, I despise him. I never want to see him again. I wish I never went back. He was the biggest mistake of my life. I want to get back to the point where I forgot his middle name and the things he used to say.
After the Fourth 2nd Chance
I’m angry. I’m so angry that it’s getting to the point where explaining how angry I am just doesn’t seem to do it justice. Every time I see his face my blood boils; I get so bitter and full of hatred that it consumes me. I’ve never felt so much hate for one boy in my entire life. He is the worst person I’ve ever met or had interactions with. I’m feeling the sense of not even being able to string together words to express how I feel about him. But I’m trying and although it may be short, I feel like it’ll get a lot off of my chest. One thing I don’t say is that I’m sad.
I’m sad because I loved him with all of my heart and he left me like I was nothing. I’m sad because I trusted him when he lied and believed every word he said. I’m sad because when he told me that he loved me, I sat back and believed it because for some damn reason I believed that he could ever love. I’m sad because even ever everything that happened he never once thought of how it’d make me feel or how he makes me feel. I’m sad because as soon as I was out of the picture, I got replaced almost instantly. I’m sad because I realised that I wasn’t anything to him, Not anything at all. The saddest part is that a piece of me still loves him because he was so much more to me than love. He was everything to me and knowing he doesn’t care for that just breaks my heart every single time.
I can’t even look at him or have anyone say his name because I get so sad and angry at the same time and all the good memories flood back in; leaving me choking for air. All I wish is that I could go back to those times and stay there forever but it all has me wondering was it ever real? Did he ever love me? Did he ever even like me?
To make matters worse, I don’t have closure. I’ve been waiting on the final fight and on the last words but I feel like I’m never going to get it and that haunts me. I don’t miss his lies. I don’t miss his manipulation. I don’t miss his using of me. For some reason, all I seem to be waiting on is for him to bring up one more thing that I’ve done wrong so I can finally fight back.
The Healing
It’s been two years since you broke my heart. I hated you so much and I still do. The burning desire to show you how much I was hurting. I used to relish nothing more than the thought of you seeing me happy and crawling back. This eventually did happen.
Jughead Jones walked into my life and waited patiently. He didn’t force his way in and treat it as if I purposely locked the doors. He waited until I could unlock the door myself which was a while. He wanted to wait because he wanted to make me comfortable.
Having gone from toxicity to floral bouquets and late night calling, I finally found someone who could really love me for me. No ulterior motives or gains in any selfless act he does is a huge difference in comparison to before. It wasn’t easy for me.
I can look back now and see that I was in a toxic relationship but in the moment you have no idea because they blind you with empty promises and over used phrases. It makes you believe anything that they tell you because you trust that in the end they will still be there loving you even more than before. I couldn’t write enough CV’s or homework’s in the world to make him have even an ounce of compassion for me.
Juggie is different, he sees me as more than a human encyclopaedia or a slave. He sees me as Betty Cooper. That’s all I’ve ever needed to be seen as by someone.
I’m still struggling today, for a long while I stopped believing that love could ever be a thing. My whole heart was with someone else so how could even a percentage of it to anyone else? How could that be fair on them? I thought that all boys would want is sex and favours. That all my life I would only get treated badly.
I was wrong because there are still some guys out there who want to take you for a meal or two before they kiss you and they want to bring you flowers to see your smile. Jughead is one of those guys.
The only words Jughead spoke after he’d found out about Chuck were “You’re not going crazy.” And oddly, that was the most comforting thing I could’ve heard at that stage in my life. I thought that I was the problem; that I was doing something wrong. Jughead showed me that it wasn’t exactly what Chuck manipulated.
A large portion of me still feels like everything is going to turn out wrong. I know now that it’s only what has been drilled into my head because yes, things might go wrong sometimes but if we talk it through and communicate we can make anything work. And if it goes wrong and then it goes wrong but at least I got to spend this time and keep these memories with me forever.
A relationship isn’t lying and manipulation; it’s communication and understanding. The misbelief in this day and age is sickening. I just have to remember that whatever he said to me was wrong. I am not the crazy one.

Twist of Fate - Chapter 10
Just a quick note before the chapter starts, if anyone has any prompts they’d like me to write please send them in! I really love writing what you guys enjoy :)
Read on A03
So that’s how the four of them ended up sat on the couches, wrapped in blankets and watching Christmas movies. They’d already finished the Santa Clause 1 and now they were moving on to Elf. At first, Betty and Jughead had the intention to stay as far away from each other as possible, sitting on the opposite sides of the couch. However, that plan didn’t exactly work. Archie and Veronica got there before the two roommates, forcing them to sit tightly next to each other.
Betty couldn’t stand it anymore. Her body was itching to run for the hills, she didn’t know what had happened in the kitchen. Quite frankly, she didn’t want to know what happened or how Jughead felt. She couldn’t stand hearing him say that it was a mistake or that they were moving too fast. She didn’t want to have the ‘talk’ about the future because the future terrified her.
Speaking of terrified, Archie looked as white as a ghost sat next to Veronica. He was fidgeting nervously, a slight shake in the movements. Veronica seemed to be oblivious, concentrating on Buddy and how he was going to make people believe in Christmas again.
“Archie, can I speak to you in the kitchen?” Betty spoke abruptly. A part of her hoped to stray away from the thoughts spiraling in her head and instead focus on her best friend being proposed to. Jughead stiffened slightly as Archie smiled over at Betty and stood up. “Keep on watching, this won’t take long.” Betty whispered in Veronica’s ear before standing up and following Archie into the next room, closing the door behind them.
“What’s up with Jughead?” Archie asked immediately after the door had shut. Betty was about to respond but he cut her off. “Is it about me proposing? I don’t want to step on his toes, he’s my best friend.” Archie sat himself at the table and holding his head in his hands. “Am I making the right decision here, Betty?” He looked pained at the sound of his own words. This boy was willing to put his whole life on hold to make someone else happy.
“Archie no, of course not. Jughead is so happy that his sister has found a guy like you. He’d rather it was you than anyone else.” Betty sat next to Archie, placing both of her hands flat on the table. “Even then, you can’t put your life on hold for anyone. If this is what your heart wants then when does a couple of years difference do? If you know you’ll still feel the same in 10 years then why not make it official now?” Archie seemed to perk up at her words.
“I’m not sure what to do. How do I even ask? She deserves some huge romantic gesture but I can’t do it without Jug there and I can’t wait any longer.” Archie was stressed, anyone could’ve seen that. Betty’s heart was breaking for him. She knew Veronica wouldn’t care about how grand the gesture is because she was utterly in love with him. Archie pulled out a small black box, cladded with a soft velvet fabric. He twiddled it around in his hands for a few moments.
“Arch, I can promise you that Ronnie does love you. She would follow you to the ends of the Earth. Dare I say, she would live with you in a cardboard box.” Betty chuckled to herself at the thought of her last statement. The primped socialite living in anything smaller than a 3 bedroom apartment in the Upper East Side was absurd. Though, she knows that Ronnie would oblige, her loyalty overrides her materialism.
“I want to do it now.” Archie stood himself up. Marching over to the door but stopping when he reached it. He stood for a moment, clutching the black box in his hand. “What do I say?” The red head’s voice cracked slightly, he felt like he was going to throw up. He believes Betty but at the same time he can’t help but expect the worse.
“Follow your heart and let the words come out naturally.” Betty followed Archie’s steps to the door, standing behind him and giving him a slight push. He responded by chuckling nervously. Swinging the door open, the pair walked into the living room to see Ronnie comforting Jughead, who looked incredibly distressed. At first, Betty wanted to run over and ask if he was okay. But she didn’t want to invade his privacy, in case she was the reason why. Would he kick her out?
Betty had become all too used to the apartment. Even if she’d been there just under a month. The huge living room space had been her favourite place to watch TV whilst the fire crackled, illuminating the soft brown aesthetic of the room. The kitchen had been her favourite place to escape and cook. The state of the art appliances made cooking feel so much better as well as the modern black and white coloured design. Everywhere was so beautiful. Being here was easy.
“Ronnie, I have something to say.” Archie puffed his chest out slightly, walking over and pulling Veronica from the couch. She had a shocked expression on her face, stealing a quick glance at Betty who had a huge smirk on her face. Jughead was quick to realize what was happening, so he pulled out his phone and started to record. Luckily, he was quite good at hiding the phone from Veronica’s sight.
“Archie, what is it?” Veronica spoke in a quiet voice, stepping closer to her boyfriend. She didn’t know what he was about to say and she hoped it wasn’t anything bad. She’d just been told what happened between her brother and Betty so all that was on her mind was to see how Betty feels. Jughead really likes her but he’s had a lot of people let him down in his life. It took him a long time to open up to Veronica, for a long time she was sure he wouldn’t. From what he told her only minutes ago, he’s opened up quite a lot. Which for Jughead is very unusual, she made a mental note to talk to their parents tonight.
“I have never loved someone like I love you. Through every fight and every experience we go through you teach me to be a better man. To be the man I want to be.” Archie stared straight into Veronica’s eyes. Her brown orbs were welling slightly at the words he had spoken. Only to be clamped wide open when Archie got on one knee and opened the black box resting in his hand. “Ronnie, I know it’s early but I know in my heart that I’ll still feel this way in 10 years’ time or even 20. Will you make me the happiest man alive and be my wife?”
Veronica let out a small cry that everyone took as a yes and jumped into Archie’s arms. She had never been so sure of something in her life. Archie was special, she’d known that from the first time she met him. To be fair, they were young and Archie was only seen as Jughead’s best friend. Veronica found him attractive, no doubt. But she didn’t want to steal this away from Jughead. That’s why their relationship was a secret in the first place and for good reason. Jughead was upset for a short while but even he could see the chemistry between the two. A connection like that is special.
Archie took the ring from the box and slid it on her finger. The silver band of pale blue diamond’s stood out perfectly on her finger, making her look even more beautiful. Veronica wondered how he had picked such a perfect ring; it really was made for her. Just like her new fiancée.
Jughead sat back and watched the couple as they embraced each other, reciting how much they loved each other. He risked a glance at Betty who had a bright smile on her face that didn’t quite reach her eyes. Her blonde waves were now completely free from its previous pony tail. She had changed into a more comfortable outfit, now matching Veronica who had brought around two matching reindeer onesies for the pair to change in to. Even without trying, Betty was effortlessly beautiful.
Betty hadn’t bothered to look in Jughead’s direction, knowing that she wasn’t ready yet. Right now she wanted to focus on her best friend enjoying the 2nd best day of her life, the wedding coming first obviously. So Betty Cooper did what Betty Cooper does best.
“This calls for a celebration.” Betty unlocked her phone, hitting speed dial. It rang for a few seconds before a very nervous employee picked up on the other line. Veronica’s eyes were still sparkling with joy, even more so because she knew exactly what Betty was doing.
“Hi, could I please have four cookie doughs delivered? Yeah, it’s Betty Cooper.”

The Unlikely Two
From the moment Jughead Jones stepped into Riverdale High, his chosen target was Betty Cooper. Teasing mercilessly and throwing insults, Betty doesn't know how much more she can take. From enemies to something entirely new.
Read on AO3
Jughead Jones was a colossal asshole, Betty had decided. His whole time knowing Betty he had tormented her, purposely provoked her and attempted to ruin every good thing in her life. It was a pain in her ass, she hated him. With a fiery passion in her heart; she hoped that he would get what he deserved one day.
Funnily enough, Jughead was the quarter back for the Riverdale Bulldogs. Meaning that every girl wanted him and every guy wanted to be him. The only person that could come above Jughead was his best friend, Archie Andrews, but he was strictly off limits. Caught in some love spell Betty’s best friend, Veronica Lodge threw onto him.
They weren’t an unlikely pairing. Veronica was the co-head cheerleader of the Riverdale Vixens and Archie was the co-captain for the Riverdale Bulldogs. They were the most expected couple in the entire school. Everyone could see the chemistry between them from the moment that Archie and Jughead had transferred from New York City.
The two boys had been best friends their entire life, ever since Fred had adopted Jughead off of his abusive parents. Though, no one ever knew that story. As far as anyone was concerned, Jughead just took Mary’s maiden name and the two were brothers. No one ever asked for the logic, which was helpful seeing as it was a completely blatant lie.
It didn’t take long for Jughead to sweep in and choose Betty as his victim. Every day giving sly comments about how prude she looked or how her tight pony tail must be why she’s so uptight all of the time. It was silly things but it’s the fact that it was happening every single day. He sat with her at lunch to be with Archie, who was too busy canoodling with Veronica. Leaving the two sworn enemies to bicker and ignore each other for an hour at least every school day.
It was hell for Betty, but not for Jughead. He found a sick comfort in teasing Betty Cooper. At first, he thought it was just because he didn’t like her but he did find himself caring about her from time to time. If anyone else gave Betty grief, Jughead was the first one to jump to her defence. The mixed signals drove Betty crazy, deciding that maybe he just wanted to be the only reason she was miserable.
Nonetheless, he gave it a good go at being nice when people had given Betty a few choice words. He rubbed her back and told her that it was going to be okay. He never knew what to do when she cried, he’d of hated it if he ever pushed her to those limits. The 2 or 3 times he had drove her over the edge were the worst of times.
It wasn’t necessarily Jughead Jones being the problem. He was merely the catalyst of Betty’s emotions. She was almost thankful at times that he would cause an outburst because she got to release her hefty built up frustration. It was some kind of twisted favour.
Betty didn’t have it easy. Her father let his alcoholism get the best of him when her sister, Polly Cooper, had finally left town. She was pregnant and on the run from her mother who was trying to force her to abort the baby. She refused, claiming it was all she had left to live for. That’s where she wasn’t wrong; the Coopers had nothing to live for. Their reputation had been dragged through the mud and back. Redemption was useless.
Jughead hadn’t meant to say it that day. But the words came spilling out and before he knew it Betty had punched him square in the nose and ran away crying. He had no idea what he had done wrong until Veronica decided to tell him a small fraction of what Betty has to go through in her day to day life.
The words that Jughead had said stuck with Betty for a long time. She never forgot to venom in his voice as he deliberately said the words he knew would hurt her the most. She’d never expected that he’d hated her that much. To put someone through so much pain every single day just for a kick? Betty had enough of his baggage.
“Hey, Coops. You’re looking very uptight, as usual.” Jughead caught up with Betty who, having already seen him, was walking at a faster pace than usual down the corridor. He slung his left arm around her shoulder loosely, attempting to take out her pony tail. She’d had enough. Grabbing him by his letterman jacket, Betty tossed him off of her. He fell into a nearby locker.
“Fuck off, Jones.” Betty seethed, kicking his fallen backpack out of the way and walking away. Jughead wanted to be mad, but a part of him found it hot. Betty standing up for herself instead of letting him bully her was way better than actually bullying her. There were a few students stood by their lockers snickering but Jughead didn’t care. He was way too invested in how this would play out, a small smirk etching across his face.
“Hey, B, you okay?” Veronica pulled Betty into a quick hug, taking a note of her tired features. She hadn’t looked like she slept well last night. Sadly, Veronica wasn’t surprised. Constant worrying about Polly often kept Betty up at night, not hearing from your sister for 5 months was tough. It’s still a sore subject.
“I’m good. Just keep Jones away from me.” Betty grumbled, kicking her feet slightly. She couldn’t be around him right now. After everything he’d said yesterday she couldn’t be bothered to deal with him. Especially since things at home were getting worse and worse. Betty’s dad was starting to drunkenly hit her whilst her mother watched from afar. Alice never did have a backbone.
It wasn’t brutal beatings, just slaps and tripping over. She had a few bruises but she’d cover them up for school so that no one could see, attempting to keep up the persona of everything being okay when everyone could see that she was far from okay. Being okay wasn’t a part of Betty’s day to day life. Veronica knew it all.
“Did it happen again?” Veronica caressed Betty’s cheek, tears welling in her eyes as she takes a good look at her best friend. Betty was in pieces, she didn’t look like the same girl she was last year, or even a few months ago. She was losing weight much too fast, she was losing the pink in her skin. It was like watching someone die and still walk around.
Jughead didn’t take this as a hint to stop. He carried on mercilessly making her life hell because he found it funny. He didn’t think that Betty was in danger or that she could ever hate herself. Jughead thinks that Betty has it all and that’s why he gives her shit.
He’d found out about Polly as soon as it happened. Word travels fast when a junior gets pregnant and her boyfriend completely leaves her to fend for herself. Jason Blossom was what Brits would call ‘a bit of a dick’. Betty hated him with a burning passion, so that means that Jughead hated him too.
“I’m fine, V.” Betty lightly pulled Veronica’s hand off of her face, shrugging off any remnants of the past few minutes happening and faking a smile for the audience. That being the students in the corridors, ears wide open ready to absorb any drop of information that they can. It’s how they survive.
High school kids feed off of others misery. It’s like a shark getting their first taste of blood. They won’t stop until they destroy every single thing. Rumours are the most popular of that sort; many got spread after Polly had left. Polly Cooper is pregnant with Jason’s baby? Well who’d of expected that, she’s a slut? They all are, the Coopers are weak.
“Psst! Cooper!” Jughead irritatingly whispered from the row behind Betty in Biology. Of course, she pretended not to hear him. She’s sticking to her word of having nothing to do with him anymore. And she hopes that he will get that hint. “Cooper!” Jughead tried again a little louder this time. Betty relentlessly ignored him, avoiding every single possibility of an encounter.
“What!” Betty yelled whilst stood in front of her locker that was being blocked by none other than Jughead Jones. He clearly wasn’t happy with Betty’s fruitless attempts at avoiding him, so he took it one step further. Refusing to move from her locker until she talked to him, Betty finally budged.
“I only wanted to say that I’m sorry.” Betty almost choked on the air she was breathing in. Not in any of the time Betty had known Jughead, had he ever apologised for anything he’d done. That’s exactly why, standing right there, Betty legitimately choked in shock as Jughead just rolled his eyes.
That was the first time that Jughead had surprised Betty. After that day, he seemed to back off a lot. Whenever Betty walked in the corridor, he remained away from her and respected her wishes. He wanted to renew himself with her, show her that he’s not just an asshole.
Jughead found it hard to talk to people; he usually comes off as arrogant and cocky. He doesn’t intend for that to happen, but it does get him exactly what he wants whenever he wants it. He has 100 girls fawning over his every move and even if he doesn’t want them, he still has them. He was unsure on why Betty didn’t have any guys genuinely interested in her. Jughead thought she was beautiful.
“You look pretty today, Cooper.” Jughead appeared next to Betty, complimenting her with a genuine smile. At first, she wanted to laugh but she knew that his punchline was going to come soon enough. One didn’t come; instead he nudged her arm slightly and stalked off in the opposite direction still smiling. That day, Betty smiled too.
Jughead’s change in behaviour hadn’t gone unnoticed by Archie. His red headed brother mercilessly teased him about his sudden feeling change for Betty who seemed to be warming up to him too. Jughead could only chuckle in response, not denying his quick change.
Veronica was doing the same that night, painting Betty’s nails an electric blue and bringing up Jughead’s behaviour. At first, Betty didn’t have a response.  She truly had no idea what to think about the situation. Jughead had always hated her and now he’s calling her pretty and completely stopping with the rude remarks. She couldn’t lie, she was happy about it.
“Hey, Betts! Wait up!” Betty was walking to school when she heard Jughead call behind her. He looked slightly ruffled but he caught up to her in a flash. Perks of being the quarter back she guessed. His genuine smile was plastered on his face again as he saw Betty beam at his offer, “Can I walk with you?”
This became a regular occurrence for the two; walking to school early in the morning just so they could take their time walking. During the first few mornings, Archie had no idea why Jughead was leaving an hour earlier than usual and refusing a ride. Following him one day, he saw Jughead waiting outside the Cooper household and walking to Riverdale High with his arm around Betty Cooper. Only to quickly drop it if someone walked past or if they made it through the school gates.
Even Veronica knew that something weird was going on. At lunch they weren’t doing their usual bickering. They were sat in silence, texting rapidly on their phones with goofy smirks on their faces. Archie caught Jughead staring at Betty like she was his whole world on more than one occasion.
“Are you dating Jughead?” Veronica blurted out one day to Betty who was laid on Veronica’s couch, cuddled up in a bundle of blankets. Her eyes were glued to the screen for a moment, watching Leonardo DiCaprio intensely for a moment.
“Yes.” Betty spoke slowly; weary of how Veronica would react. Anyone would’ve known that Betty and Jughead were the most unlikely pairing in the world. They used to hate each other with a burning passion. But something in Jughead changed that ended up changing something in Betty too. No one knew that what Jughead saw one night could’ve changed their whole perspective on Betty Cooper.
After screwing up the past few paragraphs, Jughead set his laptop down and decided to take a walk. He found himself walking past the Cooper house, ready to see nothing at all. But what he saw was frightening. Hal Cooper, striking Betty down and screaming at her with his greasy face reddening with every word. Betty stood up, poked her rather in the chest roughly and seethed some words back at him. To which he just walked away.
Jughead watching from afar was difficult. He’d wanted to go in and comfort her as he always did when someone hurt Betty. But seeing her home situation changed his perspective on Betty Cooper. She wasn’t uptight, she wasn’t prude, and she wasn’t a slut. Betty Cooper was a beautiful warrior.
And with that, Jughead made a promise to himself that he wouldn’t save Betty Cooper but he would help her to find the strength to fight her own way out. Not everyone needs a man to save their life; Betty had proved her strength already.  But Jughead’s task was to let her know just how beautiful and just how strong she is.
Betty Cooper is her own hero.

Twist of Fate - Chapter 8
I’m on a roll and I can’t stop
read on AO3
Part 7
“So this is your office, it has the best skyline view of the city and my desk will be right outside. If there’s anything you need just call me in or press the button on the desk to use the intercom. Your meetings and schedules will be on the board next to the couch. I think that’s all, I’ll leave you to get set up.” The tall brunette, Betty had learned was Natalie, told her. Once the door had closed, Betty truly observed the beauty of her office. Jughead had pulled out all of the stops.
The office was increasingly larger than she had originally expected. The dark cream walls meld perfectly with the spruce wood floors. She had her own loveseat couch with a glass coffee table that held a tray of brownies, cookies and a bottle of champagne. There was a flat screen TV on the opposing wall that Betty thought was way too big to be an office TV. Her desk was positioned in front of the wall of windows, showing the most incredible view of Manhattan she had ever seen. Her office PC was an IMac which she had suspected was the case when walking past the rest of the offices. None were this grand.
Her desk was much like her coffee table, though the drawers were matching the spruce wood of the floor. Her chair looked comfy and professional but she couldn’t help but get excited that it was a spinney chair. The whole office was perfect, even better than she had imagined. A stray note was laid in front of her computer with her name sprawled neatly on the front. She placed down the box of things she had brought with her and sat in the chair, opening the note with a slight smile.
‘Miss Cooper. I cannot express enough gratitude that you gave a small corporate man like me such an incredible potential. With your help, the Blue and Gold will be a booming success. I can already tell that you’re going to be an absolute pleasure to work with. Also, can we have curry for dinner please? Much love, Forsythe Jones-Lodge aka your very hungry roommate.
Betty giggled at the note, knowing that he couldn’t have been that hungry since they had a mountain of waffles for breakfast. She was happy that they’d become such good friends recently, Betty feels like she can really be herself around him. Something she had never been able to do with anyone except Kevin and Veronica. Her mother was always good at blocking out the light and keeping everyone in darkness.
“Sorry, Miss Cooper, you have a 10 o’clock with Mr. Jones-Lodge in the conference room. Apparently it’s urgent.” Natalie came around from the corner, a grimace on her face. “I’m a lot more organized than this usually, I promise.” She suddenly smiled and handed Betty a brief. The clock read 9:35 meaning Betty had 20 minutes to read over the brief and rush to the conference room. The conference room was on the 13th floor which was two floors below Betty’s.
The 14th floor was the editors floor, but she had come to learn that Jughead would rather she was on the same floor as him, seeing as she was the lead editor and held more importance than the others. She hated to hear that but being on the 15th floor was incredible, even if it was full of partners and the founder. She did feel important.
“Thank you Natalie, and please, call me Betty.” Betty grabbed the brief and sat down on the couch flicking through it. Natalie flashed a smile and went to sit back at her desk. The paper wasn’t as long and boring as Betty had imagined. Mainly it was just introducing a new marketing idea to boost sales over the Christmas period. Betty had a lot of ideas she’d like to voice. She made a quick note of the few and checked the time.
“9:59? Shit!” Betty cussed herself and flew off of the couch, running through the halls and down the stairs, taking note of nothing except which step she had to take next. She made it to the conference room in record time only to find that Jughead was in there alone setting up his laptop. He noticed her presence almost instantly, walking over to welcome her with a warm hug.
“Hey, you’re early.” Jughead gave her a tight squeeze and pulled away, straightening the stray papers on the table. Betty checked the time on her watch seeing that it was 9:52. Confusion racked through her brain until she realized she had been reading the time wrong the entire time before. She sighed heavily, plopping down in the chair next to Jughead’s. He stifled a laugh, sitting in his seat and giving another few taps at his laptop.
“I read my watch wrong.” Betty chuckled and flicked her eyes over to Jughead. “Adding some last touches to the presentation?” Betty wondered, watching him type away eagerly doing God knows what. He stopped abruptly and looked at her, a mix of expression on his face.
“So you can’t tell anyone this, at all. But Archie wants to propose to Ronnie.” Jughead smiled proudly whilst Betty squealed uncontrollably. She couldn’t form any words to say before Jughead carried on. “I helped him pick out a ring a few weeks ago and now he’s creating all these scenarios in his head about Ronnie saying no.” He sighed heavily. Betty peeked a look at the chat, resting her chin on Jughead’s shoulder to get a good view.
Betty was halfway through reading the conversation when the first wave of partners came in. She immediately moved away from Jughead and got all of her ideas ready to talk out her ideas in a thorough and guided manner. However, that was not what the partners had in mind. Every time Betty had tried to speak, someone cut her off with some bad idea that gets shut down 5 minutes later.
Every chance he got, Jughead would encourage Betty to speak over them. Always asking for her input in an idea and smirking when she shut the bad ideas down. He would shush the partners speaking over her and motion her to carry on. Betty found it very endearing but swiftly made it apparent that she could speak over them without his help. And in the end, the partners were amazed by her concepts which led to her idea being the chosen one. With a grin on her face, she walked back to her office and started on her first assignment. What a great start to the day.

Twist of Fate - Chapter 9
I’ve been enjoying updating this too much, I have 3 extra chapters ready to post ;D
Read on AO3
Chapter 8
“We didn’t finish our conversation from earlier today.” Betty walked into Jughead’s office and shut the door behind her. The day had come to a close and Jughead texted Betty telling her to come to his office and they’ll go home together. Jughead jumped slightly at Betty’s entrance, seeing the excitement still racking through her body.
“You can’t tell Archie I told you.” Jughead motioned for Betty to come over and look at his laptop. Archie had written a frantic message about how nervous he was and how he was sure that she was going to think it’s a step too far. Yes they had only been together for a year, but they had a real connection that Archie wanted to consolidate. Betty thought it was very romantic.
“You’re so horrible at giving advice. Scooch up a sec I’m gonna pretend to be you.” Betty sat on Jughead’s knee, already typing out a huge paragraph to Archie about how much Ronnie loved him and how romantic ‘Jughead’ found it. Speaking of Jughead, he sat watching and pointing out things he would never say until he was sure it was undetectable.
“Do you really think it’s that romantic to move that fast?” Jughead asked, genuinely curious. He found it exciting that his sister had found love, yes. But he thought marriage wouldn’t be on the cards for at least a few years. They were only 21 years old. Betty said nothing for a minute, sitting comfortably in Jughead’s lap. Until she started talking.
“I mean, if you know it’s right then there’s no denying it. What’s the point in delaying it for a few years if you know it’s going to happen anyways. Life’s too short to abide by what’s socially acceptable, do what your heart wants and hope that it works out.” Jughead had never heard truer words in his life. Betty was now fully staring at Jughead and he was staring at her. The intensity and electricity between the two was undeniable. Betty was finding it hard to breathe at how close she actually was to him. Much like this morning, being near him made her thoughts fuzzy and her eyes traitorous. Jughead was feeling the same, finding his body leaning closer towards Betty and his face attempting to capture her lips with his own.
This plan was abruptly foiled when the facetime tone rang from Jughead’s laptop. Archie was calling. Jughead sighed heavily but didn’t move away. Betty kissed his cheek before getting up and walking towards Jughead’s couch. Becoming suddenly more interested in something on her phone. Jughead answered the call shortly after to see an extremely nervous looking Archie on the other line.
“I think I’m going to do it tonight. Ronnie wanted to come over and see Betty so what do you say to helping me plan?” Archie chatted into his phone. Jughead sat up straight, suddenly feeling the same nerves as Archie. “Also, thanks Betty, your advice really helped me.” Archie smugly smiled at Jughead’s shocked expression. Betty could only giggle loudly from the couch in response.
“Okay, okay. Be around ours at 8. We’ll handle dinner.” Jughead shut is laptop, shoving it into his satchel and gathering up a few more things before walking over to Betty and holding out his hand. “You ready to go home?” He asked, not denying the happiness that those words gave him. She took his hand, standing up with her handbag already over her shoulder.
“Always.” She whispered. Jughead couldn’t deny how incredible Betty looked today. Her usual tight ponytail was loosened a little, letting some of her golden locks flow freely. Her make-up was light, showing off how naturally beautiful she really was. She wore a dark blue blazer accompanied with a plain white blouse and matching flared trousers. She looked business savvy and added her own Betty touch. Jughead couldn’t agree more with whatever she was doing.
The ride home wasn’t anything exciting. Though, he felt a lot better getting in his car with Betty instead of by himself. He likes that this would now be an everyday routine. It wasn’t special but Betty made it seem so. As if her presence added a touch of magic to the blandest of things, much like her cooking.
“Okay, you grab the chicken and I’ll cut the onions.” Betty dropped her bag to the floor and walked into the kitchen. She was already halfway through dicing the onion when Jughead walked into the room. Glancing over her shoulder, she realized the look on his face was a little too serious. “Juggie? You okay?” Betty walked over to Jughead slowly, hoping that he wasn’t having second thoughts with Archie and Veronica. He looked up and forced a smile.
“I’m good, let’s get this curry cooked.” Jughead stalked away from Betty, moodily grabbing the chicken and preparing it. Truth is, his mind is spinning right now. He hopes that Betty’s words earlier applied to him. She did kiss his cheek after. Unless she was just being nice. But Betty isn’t like that, she really does care. This morning proved that enough.
Betty obliged and carried on cutting the onions until they had a whole curry prepared. Betty didn’t say much to Jughead in hopes that he would talk to her when he felt like he could, which was just as she was serving up the curry into 4 separate bowls.
“Betts, can I talk to you?” Jughead blurted out. He couldn’t keep it in any longer. He’d never felt this connection with anyone before and he was really hoping she could feel it too. That maybe their friendship could develop into something more, something better. Betty washed out the serving bowl and put it on the draining board before turning around to face Jughead who was now just inches away from her.
“Wait. Juggie, I-uh. I-“ Before Betty could finish, she cut herself off and slammed her lips against Jughead’s. At first, he was shocked. His body racked with energy he didn’t even know he had as he kissed her back with just as much force. Maybe even a little more. He couldn’t stop himself from pulling her closer and kissing her deeper. The feeling something he’d never have imagined in his wildest dreams.
Betty moaned against his lips as he grabbed the back of her thighs and lifted her up onto the counter, their lips never separating once. He stood himself in between her legs, her body flat against his. The thoughts of moving too fast and things going wrong were absent in Betty’s mind. All she could think about was his tongue exploring her mouth and his hands on the small of her back, threatening to move down further. Betty’s fingers were curled in his raven coloured locks, his beanie long forgotten on the kitchen counter.
The pair continued to passionately kiss, only breaking every so often for air. This was too fast but it felt too right. As if their bodies fit together perfectly, not even a drip of air could come between them in this moment. But the ringing of the doorbell could split them apart faster than ever. Amidst their minor rendezvous, Archie and Veronica were right on time, ringing their doorbell and waiting for the polite amount of time before barging in. Luckily for the pair, they’d already had time to look presentable before the couple had walked in.
Ronnie looked incredible, as always. She was wearing a faux black fur coat with a crystal white mid-thigh dress and small black heels. Of course, the white string of pearls wrapped around her neck. Archie matched her, wearing a white button up shirt and black jeans with normal black shoes. He didn’t usually always make an effort, but Veronica encouraged looking business ready always. That was mainly due to some clients calling up in the worst of times.
“Ooo, I love curry!” Archie ran straight to the table, seating himself and digging in. Veronica scolded him lightly before seating herself next to him and staring adoringly. Betty noted the amount of love concentrated in that stare and hoped that one day; she would have that amount of love for someone. Only now, she was hoping it was Jughead.
