"I'm failing to understand the relevance of this practice to the birth of Jesus Christ," Cas says, frowning at the wrinkled, torn massacre of wrapping paper strewn across the living room floor. He stretches his legs out and heaves a loud, dramatic sigh. "This is causing stress. It's bad for the baby."

Dean rolls his eyes but doesn't let his focus falter; he's intensely engaged in measuring out the proper length and width of reindeer-and-candy cane wrapping paper needed for Sam's present (a custom-engraved dog tag for Riot). Cas, whose patience has thinned to a mere thread since becoming pregnant, tosses a shimmery silver bow at Dean's head. It gives a surprisingly impressive attempt at flight, then sticks momentarily to Dean's hair, just long enough to break his concentration.

"Cas, could you not?" Dean snaps. He holds up the sheet of wrapping paper and realizes it's cut at a jagged angle. "Fuck it."

"You shouldn't swear in front of the baby," Cas admonishes lightly. Dean shoots him a withering glance, but his annoyance cracks immediately at the sight of his tousle-headed angel, pink-cheeked and glowing. The sweater Amelia knitted (badly) for him barely covers his pregnant belly. Dean drops the scissors and scoots across the floor to kiss Cas's cheek.

"Maybe we'll just use tape and newspapers," Dean says, smiling. "It's not like Sam's gonna care either way. I just figured we could try the wrapping paper thing for once, you know, now that we're gonna be boring Norman Rockwell parents and all."

Cas squints at him. "We are not naming this child Norman Rockwell."

Dean snorts and picks up one of the discarded silver ribbons, wrapping it around Cas's torso. He ties the bow over the angel's stomach, just above his navel.

"But I do think you're going to be an excellent father, Dean," Cas says quietly.

Dean nods and swallows back a decidedly un-manly swell of emotion. "Damn straight," he replies, smoothing down the ribbons crossing and intertwining over his angel and his unborn child.
