#that's the corries after the war when they meet up with Fox and a situation happens and Fox in his nice clothes tries to fight

I love the breha/bail/fox with no O66 and it super funny to see fox adjust to being a civilian/royalty, especially with the royal guard looking after him (even before the war ends.)
Something I think that is even more funny is the rest of the corries getting this good treatment by the guards and also being just an inept at accepting the help. They're like 'of course fox gets special treatment hes royalty!' But when they get it they're like 'wtf is this? What do i do with this?'
Haha yeah, adjusting to being charge but also...not being in charge? Comes little by little to Fox. The instincts are strong. He tries really hard not to speak to people who are practically his employees like he's an army commander, he thinks it just makes everybody feel weird. But also the Royal Guard is very loyal to him because Fox is loyal to them, at the end of the day!
And yes, it's the "wtf we also get treated like people??" for the rest of the Corries, because no, guys, just because Fox is royalty does not mean that all the good treatment and help goes to him, there isn't like...a limit to it? Okay?
Also after the war the Corrie's REVEL in getting to push Fox behind their backs and act protective because during the war Fox was always at the front everywhere they went but not anymore! He's their Commander forever, sure, but not officially, so he cannot tell them what to do!
#you know at the end of Mulan when Chien-Po just grabs the Emperor and jumps of the building#that's the corries after the war when they meet up with Fox and a situation happens and Fox in his nice clothes tries to fight#they're like nope! and someone just grabs him and throws him over their shoulder and runs lmaoooo#sw#tcw#commander fox#bail/breha/fox#no order 66 au

The Clone Wars 5.18 āThe Jedi Who Knew Too Much' Reaction
I always like trying to spot which characters are in the background of big group scenes like this. So far Iāve spotted 3 admirals (Coburn, Yularen and Tarkin), assorted jedi, Master Sinube, Kit Fisto, Bail Organa and I think thatās Mon Mothma as well.Ā
Oh, hi again Barriss. Fancy seeing you here again! Funny that we keep meeting like this after so long.
I think thatās Ki-Adi-Mundi and Plo next to Barriss.
So, Barriss killed one of her childhood mentors? Iām probably going to collate my thoughts on Barriss at the end of this arc, rather than scattering them across various recaps. But so much of her characterisation here doesnāt make sense and doesnāt feel right, at all.
Iām not sure if I mentioned this in the recaps when Barriss first appeared, but why is she British?
Thereās a shot of 6 beams of light going up from the floor so Iām presuming that means 6 Jedi died in the temple bombings, which seems like an awfully large amount. What were 6 Jedi doing in a hanger of the temple? 1 or 2, maybe 3 at a stretch, makes sense, but 6? Iām guessing this is a story telling decision to make it more impactful, rather than for any logical in-universe reason.
I really despise Tarkin.
Oh, so now the deaths of clones are convenient for you Tarkin. āMilitary matterā my arse.
Who are the military police? Is that not the Coruscant Guard? I know the general fandom take is that the Corries are saddled with having to do everything but is that the case in canon?
Ahsokaās angry attitude is definitely going to come back and bite her in the arse later.
āRemember, revenge is not the Jedi way.ā says the future DARTH VADER
āNothing will ever change.ā FORESHADOWING KLAXON
Ok, Tarkin is getting very close to being up there with Krell and Nolan. His fucking contemptuous finger waggle at Ahsoka. Ugh.
āI assure you that he [Palps] rarely does anything without a strategy.ā Oh, if only you knew Tarkin. Or maybe he does? Hmmm.
Is Barriss a Jedi Knight here or is she still a Padawan? I havenāt seen Luminara anywhere so Iām guessing sheās a Knight by now.
Barriss seems a lot more conflicted and upset than I thought for someone thatās just bombed the Jedi temple and killed a childhood mentor who clearly meant a lot to her. Maybe sheās regretting what sheās done? Hmmm, not sure.
Saleucami! I hope Cut and Suu and the kids are doing ok.
Lmao that ominous brass section was not subtle. FOREBODING KLAXON
Why do they have the Venator shipping yards next to the prison?
That shot of the prison felt very Imperial Empire. All stark architecture, sharp shadows, black and white lighting, red flags and giant symbols everywhere. Itās interesting how Imperial iconography and visuals are starting to creep into Republic locations and situations. Something something visual metaphor about the end approaching.
Why is the memorial to the clones outside the prison? Or is this not the prison and is some other building? Is this the same clone memorial that Crosshair and Cody have their little chat in front of in The Bad Batch?
Corries! Wow, they do all match and have exactly the same armour paint.Ā
FOX!
That grumpy āYes?ā spoke volumes.
Fox, can you not cross your arms properly? What was that? Iām guessing it was more of a functional animation limitation than Fox not actually being unable to cross his arms. Insert your own fandom theories here about injuries that Palps inflicted on him while torturing him or similar that meant he can't cross his arms. Maybe he's got Force lightning burns across his back and it's painful and pulls when he moves too much.
The scan has Ahsoka standing there with her arms out but then the next shot of her is with her arms crossed? Continuity, hello?
At āLeave your comlink and lightsabers here.ā Fox gestures down with his index and middle finger outstretched next to each other and oh boy did my mind go straight to the horny bin.
āFollow me.ā Omg Fox did you have to say that in such a low, husky voice? That had a distinct feel of āCome with me if you want to liveā about it. If Fox basically whispered that to me itād be āSir, yes Sir, immediately Sir, however you want me Sir.ā
The reference to the first 4 notes of the Imperial March theme there was pretty damn obvious. I remember reading a really interesting theory that Fox was a prototype for Vader and basically functioned as Palpsā attack dog before he turned Anakin to the Dark Side. I wish I could find it again because it was a fascinating read and might explain the presence of the Imperial March here. The music for the entire scene from when Ahsoka entered the prison was particularly foreboding, which makes sense seeing as itās a prison. However, Iām not entirely sure who the theme is referencing because I donāt think itās Ahsoka and Anakin isnāt here. Or perhaps itās just adding to the general foreboding atmosphere. Itās entirely possible Iām reading too much into this.
Surely there are cameras and microphones recording this information that Letta is telling Ahsoka?
Is Barriss Force choking Letta from outside the prison? If so, then sheās fallen quite a long way to the Dark side because that seems like quite a powerful use of the Force.
That shot from the camera in the cell is definitely going to make it look like Ahsoka is the one choking Letta. And how convenient, the feed from that camera just cut out too.
Lmao Fox didnāt even hesitate. He was ready to fuck shit up.Ā
Oh hey, Fox also duel wields.Ā
Hmmm, Iām not sure how I feel about Fox immediately arresting Ahsoka. I think this is another example of the struggle I have with canon Fox vs fanon Fox. Iām going to have to collate my thoughts on that somewhere as well, probably after the chip conspiracy arc *sobs*. I think Iāve come to the realisation that Iām going to have to treat them as completely separate characters. I adore the version of Fox that the fandom has created. And every time I see the tiny bits of canon Fox that we get, itās almost like a disappointment compared to the depth and layers of fanon Fox, to the point that canon Fox almost feels out of character. I know he doesnāt have any choice in the matter (none of the clones do) and Iām viewing this from an outside perspective looking in. I guess itās more of an interesting conundrum to be aware of.
That shot of the prison felt even more evil Imperial Empire than the first one.
Great, fucking Tarkin again. Accompanied by hints of the Imperial March while marching down a stark corridor with harsh, ominous lighting. Definitely leaning on the Imperial Empire visuals this episode.
Called it. The footage from the cell is being used to frame Ahsoka as choking Letta. And the sound didnāt work either. How convenient.
Called it again. Tarkin using Ahsokaās earlier attitude against her. Attitude doesnāt feel like the right word but itās far too early in the morning and I canāt think of the right one.
Tarkin makes understandable points if this was some kind of detached, impersonal debate about an imaginary situation. But itās not. Heās just being a deliberately abusive bastard. Definitely getting up there with Krell and Nolan.
Anakin being very Dark Side there when threatening Fox.
Who is helping Ahsoka escape? Is it Barriss? I donāt think itās Anakin because he arrives after Ahsoka escapes. Plus clones were killed and injured and while we just saw Anakin threaten them and be all very Dark Side about it, I donāt think heās fallen far enough to that level of Sithliness yet.Ā
Utterly unnecessary acrobatics but ok.
āIf you see the target, shoot to kill.ā Oh no, that is some painful foreshadowing right there.
Fucking yes, thank you Rex. Knew we could count on Rex to believe in Ahsoka.Ā
āThen who did?ā Fox asking the question weāre all wondering.
Why is Anakin telling Rex to call security when Fox, the Commander of the Coruscant Guard, is right there? Surely he is the security?
How does Anakin telling Rex to tell security to search the entire base translate to an all-points bulletin on Ahsoka?
You can really tell from Rexās voice how much this is affecting him. How he canāt believe that Ahsoka could do this. It was almost like he didnāt want to issue the order that he had to. Iām really glad that someone apart from Anakin believes Ahsoka, and that itās Rex. Of course we could rely on our king. He canāt actually do anything to help her though. None of the clones can. Theyāre slaves. They have to follow orders. But at least we actually get to see that Rex doesnāt believe Ahsoka is capable of this and that he believes her, and believes in her. Weāve seen Rexās belief and trust in Ahsoka crop up a few times now. The most obvious being his defence of her to Tarkin in the Citadel arc.Ā
Complete switch of tone but Rex, do you ever clean your armour? I know heās busy fighting a war and all that but Iāve noticed his armour being especially dirty in a number of episodes now. Itās particularly noticeable on his bucket. Thatās a lot of gunk and grime across the top of his visor.
Wtf is that giant vehicle and isnāt that just a little bit of overkill for trying to find one Jedi Padawan? I feel like thereās a point about excessive police violence in there somewhere.
So many of the shots of the prison feel very Imperial Empire. Theyād barely have to change anything to make the switch from the Republic to the Empire. Thatās probably the point too.
Grizzer!
Hound sounded distinctly Aussie there. More funkiness happening with the clones' accents.
Thunder and lightning? That is hilariously on the nose.
Clone troopers shooting like stormtroopers. Fanon Fox would not stand for this lack of accuracy from his Corries. He has standards and he expects them to be met.
Jhc they just used a canon to fire on a child. Fuck me that is far too excessive.
āSet weapons to stun.ā The foreshadowing is causing me great, deep pain.
Ahsoka is deflecting stun bolts so Iām guessing the training that happens in episode 5 āPractice Makes Perfectā of Tales of the Jedi has happened already? I wish I could find a resource of where all these episodes happen in the timeline and around which dates they happen as well.
We need to talk about the kama, because I am now utterly befuddled about which clones can get one.Ā
Hound has a kama, but heās an ARF (Advanced Recon Force) Scout Trooper.Ā
The other ARF trooper in the Coruscant Guard also has a kama.Ā
Fox has a kama and heās a clone commander and the Commander of the Coruscant Guard but he isnāt listed as having ARC training.Ā
I think Iāve seen other Corrie Guard commanders with kamaās as well.Ā
Rex, Fives and Echo (and eventually Jesse) all have kama's and they are ARCs.Ā
Cody is a clone commander and The Marshal Commander but he doesnāt have a kama and isnāt listed as having ARC training (I cannot believe that The Marshal Commander Cody doesnāt have ARC training but thatās another point for another time).Ā
Ponds had a kama and was a clone commander but isnāt listed as having ARC training.Ā
Bly is a Marshal Commander and has ARC training and has a kama.Ā
Wolffe is a clone commander and has a kama but isnāt listed as having ARC training (I also canāt believe that Wolffe doesnāt have ARC training either but thatās the same point as Cody so for another time).Ā
Keeli was a captain, not a commander, isnāt listed as having ARC training but did have a kama.Ā
So what decides whether a clone can have a kama or not? I thought it was an ARC thing but clearly not seeing as other clones that arenāt ARCs can have one.
Theyāre mobilising a giant rolling tank thing and gunships to hunt down a child? This is definitely beyond excessive. I know at this point Ahsoka is considered armed and dangerous but sheās also A Child. This just feels completely excessive and cruel. And not that far removed from the Empire, which, again, is probably the point.
And now itās raining. Because of course it is.
āDo not shoot to kill.ā I hate all of this foreshadowing. All of it.
What are these pipelines supposed to be for? Iām guessing not petrol seeing as nothing has exploded yet.
That is a lot of skill from Ahsoka to be able to deflect multiple repeated stun bolts while sprinting flat out.
Did you just really fire on a child with a fucking rocket launcher?!
Oddball, what are you doing? I know youāre just following orders but you donāt have to sound so gleeful about it. Also, why is his helmet yellow? Actually that kind of looks like 212th orange. I thought Oddball was in the 501st? A quick google says heās in the 212th but none of the search results seem particularly definitive or legit. If he is part of the 212th, what is he doing on Coruscant? We saw Obi-Wan on a holocall at the start of the episode talking about going to the Anoat system so presumably the 212th is there, and not on Coruscant?
Is this the first time we see Ahsoka do the move of cutting a hole in the floor with her lightsaber?
Ah, so the pipes are for water. Or at least I think they are.
Anakin is looking particularly conflicted and upset throughout all of this.
TW: Discussion of abuse below. If you want to skip this, it's the section between the three dashes '---'
---
That exchange at the end between Ahsoka and Anakin was very interesting. Anakin is making some fairly reasonable and understandable points, which is intriguing given heās characterised as the opposite of that most of the time. Itās another insight into how complex of a character he is. I think TCW has done a very good job of showing not only the depth and complexity to Anakinās character but also how much more there was to his fall to the Dark Side. He is undoubtedly aggressive, possessive, abusive, and dangerous. Yet heās also being groomed by a monster in a position of power that no one even notices or realises before itās all too late. He was also a slave and had an abusive and traumatic childhood and seems to falling into the pattern of how abusees can often turn into abusers.
Amongst all of this, you can also see how much he cares for those who mean a lot to him. He and Rex are the only ones that believe Ahsoka, but Anakin is the only one in any meaningful position of power with the ability to do something about it. Itās plainly obvious how much he cares for Ahsoka.
However, that care and belief still veers too far into aggression and possession and he continues to cross the line multiple times with unacceptable actions and behaviour. I wonder if he lets Ahsoka go at the end of the episode because he trusts her or because he doesnāt know what to do?
---
Ahsoka was also making wholly valid and understandable points, which I think Anakin knew as well, even as he was trying to convince her to come back. Is this the first time we hear Ahsoka call Anakin by his first name? She usually calls him āMasterā or āSkyguyā and her use of his first name here feels particularly personal and loaded with meaning. Iām glad Ahsoka knows that at least Anakin trusts and believes her, even when no one else does.
I wanted to include this gif because look at Rex looking like James Bond in the background being framed by the pipe.
Then this gif and the two above made me realise another thing about Anakin.
TW: Discussion of abuse and domestic violence below. If you want to skip this, it's the section between the three dashes '---'
---
As much as Anakin cares about Ahsoka and is trying to help her, his possession and controlling is very evident here. The way he said "I would never let anyone hurt you Ahsoka" felt very much like something a domestic abuser would say after hurting their partner. Or what a possessive and controlling domestic abuser would say to their partner. There's a dangerous and desperate edge to it. You can also see Anakin doesn't agree with what Ahsoka is doing and is angry at her for not doing it his way. He thinks his way is the best way to try and fix this and of course he immediately gets pissed as soon as someone doesn't do what he says and follows what he thinks should be done. Anakin is refusing to let Ahsoka go, even while trying to help her. His possession and controlling is still here, even if it isn't as overt as when he's with PadmƩ.
---
The voice acting throughout TCW has been pretty damn excellent and Ahsoka is no different. Ashley Eckstein did a fantastic job. But it felt like it stepped up another level, particularly in that exchange between Ahsoka and Anakin at the end. There was so much emotion and upset and betrayal in Ahsokaās voice.Ā
There is the subtlest of hints of the Imperial March after Ahsoka jumps and we get a shot of Anakin, Rex and Fox at the mouth of the tunnel, followed by a shot of Ahsoka falling. Itās very subtle, probably the subtlest Iāve heard throughout the whole series but itās definitely there. The intervals between the notes of the Imperial March are very distinct. Again, Iām not sure what itās referencing or emphasising here. Probably Anakin seeing as he does turn into Darth Vader. But like the scene earlier where Ahsoka first enters the prison, it also feels slightly out of place. Usually when the Imperial March turns up, itās fairly clear that itās referring to Anakin, like when he killed Merrik in āVoyage of Temptationā. It could also be a misdirection to make Ahsoka appear to be falling to the Dark side. Though that doesnāt entirely make sense seeing as we know that she didnāt kill Letta and is being set up. Hmmm.Ā
I know itās meant to be a big climactic ending to the episode but couldnāt Anakin just follow Ahsoka and jump down onto the ship that sheās standing on thatās floating down the giant tunnel? And couldnāt Fox just comm some Corries to follow the ship and meet it when it lands? He is the Commander of the Coruscant Guard after all.Ā Ā Ā
That episode was intense and A Lot. And thereās still 2 episodes of this arc to go. Oof.

Squad #4 CloneShipping Big Bang Sneak Peek
Excited to get to share another collaboration for the CSBB! This time with the lovely @flowerparrish and @gallifreyianrosearkytiorsusan
@cloneshippingbigbang
Title: No One Mourns the Wicked Author: @gallifreyianrosearkytiorsusan Read By: @flowerparrish Cover Art By: @flowerparrish Art By: @anstarwar Rating: E, 18+ Pairings: Dogma x Tup Tags: Songfic, Clone Trooper Reconditioning, Tup/Dogma, Clone Trooper OCs, Coruscant Sucks for Corries, CC-1010, Marshall Commander Fox, Reconditioned!Tup, Fox Kills Chancellor Palpatine, Major Character Death (itās Palpatine), Behavioral Control Chips, CloneShipping Big Bang, Tup/Dogma Summary: Tup has been reconditioned before- he had once been a Corrie Medic named Trill. Regardless of who he was and who is now, he has a deep, fierce loyalty to his vodāe and the Republic. He falls in love with fellow Trooper Dogma- thenā¦ Umbara happened and Dogma went away. He meets a Corrie named Specter and feels starts to flourish as the war ends.
Preview below the cut:
So that no one would know what happened, and to adulterate the scene so that it was shown that it was Separatists that had killed the Senator and the... the Corrie vod'e. The Shiny almost felt sick to his stomach, that he had, unknowingly, killed fellow vod'e.
The soft shells had no chance against highly skilled and deadly commandos- and this showed it to him quite clearly. The shiny hunches his shoulders a little and follows after the slicer-engineer and helps them with cleaning up after the mission.
They leave the bodies of the Senator and the vod'e where they lay and then head back to their ship. Their Sargent, then contact Marshall Commander Fox and informing him that his squad will be arriving to take the Senator Thri'kresh to a safer location in two dayās time- their ship is still a couple days out from docking with Coruscant.
The Shiny Commando marvels, while trying not to cry or vomit or scream, about how well his ori'vod and Sargent can lie to the other vod. The Demolitions expert- the most chatty of the three ori'vod'e in Theta Squad tugs him in for a hug.
They watch him- likely monitoring him so he won't do something stupid. The guilt eats at him, the numb, shocking horror of it. Not that he would say a word of this to anyone. Opsec- for one thing, and another... no one wanted to be a vod-killer.. and he is one.
The Corries are scrambling- three squads of Corries- which had been sent to protect Senator Thri'kresh- who had been in a Senatorial hiding house in one of the safer lower levels were all found dead- as well as the Senator.
Trill is one of the medics checking over the dead- and the slicers are going for the coms and hteammatesfootage- which is a bit grainy and shows that Separatist Commando Droids had slain all of their vod'e and the Senator.
Kark. The Chancellor and the Senate are going to be displeased with their failure to protect the Senator, admittedly Senator Thri'kresh wasn't popular for their Outspoken views on wanting a more peaceful resolution and for vod'e protections.
Theta squad comes waltzing over a criticizing them for their failure to protect the Senator and their complaints about how they didn't have a mission anymore and this better not go on their records as a failure- when it was due to the Corries that their mission charge is dead.
At least- that was the Demo expert and the Combat engineer complaining, one of them was silent- if a bit twitchy, while the Sargent was just watching the situation with his arms crossed and disapproval radiating from him.
"Are you going to help us carry out the dead or just bitch at us?" Sargent Byte of the Corries snaps at the complaining Commandos.
"No- it's not our mission duty to carry failures out." The Sargent said coldly as he turned on his heel and left. His squad fofollowedfter their Sargent, the Shiny Commando pausing, looking back at them, before being grabbed by the Demo expert and tugged along with them.

Fox isnāt surprised when he finds someone inside his shitty apartment when he opens the door, not when that someone is Thorn, since he had insisted he gave him and the rest of the Guard - or former Guard you should say - squad a key to it, just as a security measure since he insists on living alone and barely contacts them.
He just went out that day to get some groceries - yes, now instead of guarding assholes for life he just does mundane things like that one - but still, he couldāve warned him that he was going to come.
āHey, Fox!ā he says, smiling warmly at him. Even as the war went on, that smile has never lost its particular shine. How he managed is still a mystery to Fox.
āThorn,ā the other greets him, stepping inside. Despite everything he canāt help an amused huff seeing Thorn all comfortable on his couch. āI see youāve made yourself at home already.ā
āWell, you know, since I was all alone in hereā¦ā Thorn replies, before getting up and dragging Fox into a hug. āIāve missed you, vod.ā
Fox doesnāt like how easily he melts at the contact, but by now heās gotten used to it. He receives so little physical affection that when he actually does itās so intense that he almost cries - almost.
āIāve missed you too.ā
Ā Since heās there, Thorn makes himself useful by helping him with the groceries, putting them in the places they belong to.
āSoā¦ wanna come to 79ās later?ā he asks, closing the fridge but not before taking a bottle of water and drink it like this was his home and he could do anything he wants with no repercussions. Itās all Foxās fault: he let him get away with it at first in the name of hospitality, and now itās gotten out of control. Oh well, itās not like he can order him to stop now - he doesnāt have a rank anymore.
A sigh leaves his lips then. This isnāt the first time Thorn has attempted something like this, but by now he should know how itās going to end.
āNo.ā
Ā If his dry answer fazes Thorn at all, he doesnāt show any sign of it.
āOkay. How about tomorrow?ā
Fox shakes his head. āNo.ā
Now Thornās enthusiasm begins to look a bit deflated, but he still doesnāt lose hope.
āWould you like to come any day this week?ā
āNo.ā
This time a sigh leaves Thornās lips.
āAlright maybe letās not go to 79ās,ā he says, āHow about somewhere else? Dex? You used to love Dex! Or we could go to this nice place Thire told me about--ā
āThorn.ā
āYes?ā
āIām not coming.ā Fox gestures to the other. āIf you want to have fun go, Iām not stopping you. Just leave me out of it.ā
Thorn takes a deep breath.
āWhy are you so determined to be stuck in your little hole?!ā he asks, exasperation overflowing at every word, āYou have the right to have a life! Nobodyās going to deny you that anymore!ā
Unlike Thorn, Fox isnāt a fool; he knows that his situation is not as easy as he makes it out to be: even if the Clones Rights Bill has been approved, itāll take some time before the rest of the galaxy will see them as actual people, and Fox himself isnāt also exactly loved by his vode.
He doesnāt blame them: he was the one who raised his blaster against one of his own; he didnāt kill him only because he had missed his heart by a small margin.
If he wasnāt exactly well-loved before - it goes with being a Corrie, as they called it - from that point on he became absolutely hated. He doesnāt blame them nor he tries to justify himself, even as he has to admit he doesnāt have many memories of that day in the first place; still, heās not a coward and he refuses to hide behind such a pathetic excuse.
Ā The thing is this: Fox doesnāt belong anywhere anymore; he knows there isnāt a place in which heās welcome.
Itās fine, solitude isnāt that bad, even if it wasnāt supposed to be part of any of their lives, but heās gotten used to it.
Besidesā¦
Ā āI do get out. In fact, I just came home after I got out.ā Itās a weak retort, but someone has to make that point. As expected in fact, Thornās completely unimpressed with that comeback.
āGrocery shopping doesnāt count.ā
āNot just that,ā Fox weakly mutters.
Heās not lying though! Two days ago he got out to meet with Bly! Sure, they have avoided going to 79ās or any other clone created space, but they still saw each other, they still went for a walk, they still talked, they still acted like friends.
Of his old batch, Bly is the one Fox sees most; it used to be Ponds, but thenā¦ Fox doesnāt want to think about that. Apparently Bly has forgotten that his brothers can take care of themselves and has the need to be act like a mother even when thatās totally unnecessary - nevermind how relieved Fox feels when he comes visiting, thatās totally unrelated.
With Wolffe he mostly speaks via comms; they guy is still so busy trying to find a place for the Wolfpack, and although Fox doesnāt blame him - he wouldāve done the same for the Guard - heās glad that his men managed to find it on their own.
Hell, even Cody makes himself known from time to time, even though itās mostly by sending holos from his most recent travels - yes, he always said that he wanted to explore the galaxy after the war, and now the son of a bantha is truly doing it.
Excluding his batch, the only people that remember his existence are Stone and Thire, who make a point to visit when they can, and Thorn, who is the one who bothers him most often.
Ā No matter how you put it, in the end Fox is very much alone.
Itās just self-preservation, nothing more nothing less, really: the Coruscant Guard has always been in a weird spot, because theyāve been looked down by the majority of the vode for not fighting frontline.
Now, with the discovery of Palpatineās true identity, things have only gotten worse because theyāve been suspected of working with him, as if they havenāt been simply other pawns for him to manipulate. Not that they have ever been accused directly - except from some drunk vod at 79ās - but it was easy drawing conclusions with the way they were looked at, or the general distrust that the vode reserved them, like they could still be working against them.
At least Fox has managed to shift the blame around so that instead of āthe Guard worked with Palpatineā people go around saying that only Fox did. His reputation is already damaged beyond repair, so why not? At least the others will get that second chance at life that he knows he wouldnāt get either way.
Deep down, very deep down, he envies them, because they truly are free, unlike him, who will be chained to his past crimes until the day he dies and probably even after - he shivers just thinking about how heāll be remembered by the future generation, if heāll be remembered at all.
Still, it all becomes meaningless in front of the pure joy he feels when they narrate him the last shenanigans they get themselves involved in. They are truly free and happy now, and Fox is happy for them.
Ā ā¦ If sometimes he wishes their places were switched, that he was the one who could live freely as his heart desires, well, thatās something only for him to know and keep secret.
Sometimes he thought about confiding in Thorn, the only one heād ever consider burdening with this stuff, but every time he decides to do he quickly changes his mind; itās not worth it.
Now more than ever he wants to scream, not even at Thorn in particular, just scream, as if all his anguish and problems would disappear just with that. It would be too good to be true
Itās not that he doesnāt want to get out, itās just that he canāt. Itās not safe, itās notā¦
Heās afraid of all the stares heād get, of all the words that would be thrown at him. Normally it wouldnāt phase him - heās used to it - but day by day heās becoming more susceptible to his emotions again; it almost makes him miss that time when he was so detached to seem almost a droid. At least he could get things done back then, not like now that he has to mentally prepare himself to go out at least one day before.
Ā At least now heās free, however, isnāt he?
Technically he could go wherever he wants, could do whatever he wants, if onlyā¦ No, he canāt. People wouldnāt be happy to have him around.
Ā Thorn tries again. Heās gotten so close to Fox that if he was someone else Fox wouldāve already tried to put some distance between them, but with Thorn heās used to it.
āFox, whatās wrong?ā
āI canāt. I--ā Kark, his voice is breaking.
āNobodyās stopping you. In fact, the only one stopping you is yourself, trust me,ā Thorn reassures him. āI know you still feel guilty, but most vode have gotten over it. In the end we were all in a shitty situation. Besides, you did hesitate in the end, didnāt you? Thatās why Fives is still alive and why we discovered who the Sith Lord was.ā
What Thorn is saying makes sense, but this doesnāt mean that itās easy for Fox to accept it; after so much time spent with self-hatred as his only constant companion, he canāt act like he never thought any bad things about himself. Besides, he doubts the rest of the vode really have forgiven him.
Still, Thorn wouldnāt lie about this, because as much as the fool still insists on wanting to cheer him up, he knows that he wonāt accomplish anything by telling lies - actually, heād make things even worse - and thereās still the fact that deep down Fox wants to leave his place, wants to do something with his life, butā¦ itās scary.
Ā āEven if I decide to leave, itāll take time before I can organize anything,ā he says, because itās so much easier saying that rather than to admit that heās the one who needs time.
These last months have been hard for everybody, but nobody talks about how especially hard theyāve been for Fox. Heās just so tired of everything.
Yes, thatās it, heās tired. If he could heād disappear without leaving any trace, but he knows that if he does someone would come searching for him; in the end there are some people that care about him, but at this point Fox wishes they didnāt because it would make his situation easier: he wouldnāt hold onto that love he still scarcely receives anymore, he wouldnāt suffer because itās still so little.
Whose fault is that anyway? Itās his. Itās him the one who keeps pushing people away. Itās just that he craves and hates the attention at the same time, a contradiction that he still hasnāt sorted out.
Ā Heās so focused on trying not to lose it in front of Thorn that he barely notices him moving them to the couch. He does feel it however when he closes his arms around him, when he kisses his forehead, when he says that itās fine, that itās ok, that heās safe.
Fox has gone so long without allowing this kind of softness in his life, but damn he missed it. If he began to let people closer again it might happen more often, but how is he supposed to do it?
Ā He doesnāt know how much time passes before he gathers enough strength to speak. He wonāt lie: staying like this almost makes him want to curl into a ball and fall asleep in the security of Thornās arms, but itās something that Fox would rather avoid, at least for now. Maybe in the future he might be able to let go and actually do it.
āI want to leave,ā he eventually says.
āLeave to where?ā Thorn asks.
āI donāt know, but I want to travel.ā
āWe can do that,ā Thorn replies, smiling at Fox, āWe can do whatever we want.ā
Yes itās true, they canā¦
āYou think Thire and Stone would want to come? It would be nice having the squad back together.ā
āIām sure theyād love it.ā
Fox doesnāt know if Thornās actually right, but itās reassuring to hear him say that.
Ā For now heāll bask in his brotherās warmth for a bit longer. They can plan another time - thereās no rush after all.
The idea of the outside isnāt something heās still entirely comfortable with, but Fox would also be lying if he said that he isnāt looking forward to exploring it. Coruscant is pretty and allā¦ but heās grown tired of it.
He might still not have found his place in the new word, but who knows, maybe thereās hope for him yet.
