Hell yeah? Literally why wouldn’t I be pissed that my favorite character who could be saved died? Dabi has one of the most realistic backstories and best characterizations in Mha, actually not only in Mha but Anime/Manga in general and do you know how taboo of topics domestic violence, child abuse and raping are in Japan? Mind you, Japan is a country that has domestic violence normalized in their country as part of marriage and somehow education too. Y’all might think I’m joking but victims of domestic abuse in Japan are struggling very much to this day, but Japanese peoples rarely talks about it because Japan is a “Family Image” oriented society (Endeavor and the Himuras showed it enough me thinks) so they categorically refuse to let people know abuse happens, especially the abusers.

“Oh BuT aLL aBuSeRs DoN’t WaNt It To Be KnOwN”, I know but in Japan it’s normalized to just live through it and that (together with bullying) it’s one of the reasons the suicide rate in Japan is one of the highest globally, hope it helps to get a better grasp on everything I’m trying to say.

Horikoshi has depicted it perfectly, because you know… He lives there and even the final outcome (Rei becoming Enji’s caretaker after years of abuse) it’s very much Japanese style. Which is why the Todoroki family ending it’s wrong and disturbing. Wrong, and disturbing.

And as if one of Enji’s victims becoming his caretaker isn’t enough, one of his other victims had to die because of his actions.

I don’t get why some of you are bending backwards, doing backflips and cartwheels to defend Endeavor just because he’s an Hero like— I’m sorry but he is the depiction of a realistically fact that even if your job (YOUR JOB!) is to save other people, behind closed doors that same person who saves other people can still be a shitty person who’s a curse to his own family, because Endeavor is just Enji Todoroki’s façade.

And he’s a well-written character because the depiction of abuser Horikoshi did of him it’s accurate to reality. Enji is egotistical, narcissistic, greedy, self-centered and selfish, which are all the characteristics that made him physically unable to actually address any of what he did until Dabi’s reveal, despite knowing that he was dead wrong and that together with the fact that he waited almost a decade to apologize to his family, is the reason why I genuinely don’t give a flying fuck about his “redemption”. If sorrow was eating you alive why didn’t you apologize sooner, trash?

Touya never got the closure he deserved, actually none of the Leagues got it and you know why? Because the whole War arc was rushed, you can tell by the way Shigaraki was offed. From a writing standpoint it was laughable, seriously.

What’s even worse is that… Nothing has actually changed in the Hero society despite the fact that nine years have passed, because people like Touya, Shigaraki and Toga will never be actually saved because Heroes have failed miserably to save the prime examples of what’s to be saved.

And no, they weren’t saved because death isn’t salvation for people who want to live, be accepted and loved. You guys that think this way genuinely scare me and I want y’all far away from me.

Like— To sum what I’m trying to say: We can’t cry and hate Mha’s ending because of all this, but some of y’all can cry, kick sheets, throw up, crashout and hate the ending over fucking ships?

The folks who say BNHA is just pro-cop are not looking at the nuance. Gentle's backstory is written as a condemnation of a heavily punitive justice system and a society that snuffs out the dreams of its youth. These below panels make it clear

Gentle was convicted of one minor charge and the consequences were (1) the persecution of his family, (2) the severing of all family ties, (3) a loss of social status and purpose, and (4) years of poverty.

This is a criticism of how those with criminal records are treated in Japanese society. When Horikoshi wants the focus to be systems rather than an individual character, he has a tendency to draw them without faces. Neither the authorities who convicted Gentle nor his parents have faces because they could be anyone. It's a portrayal of how any of their authorities would address a minor offender and how a generic parent would act when faced with that level of social scrutiny.

Horikoshi for sure isn't ACAB, but he was making a critique of a system that doesn't give people second chances and throws them away after one mistake. Based on what comes later with Aoyama and Lady Nagant as well, it's more that Horikoshi was making a centrist call for criminal justice reform.

Hori really thought he could have his cake and eat it too by having societal and familial abuse be (poorly) addressed in his manga but let bakugou slide as a gag character even though he too is an abuser.

As a grown man he should know this but either all abuse matters in your work or none of it does bc now you have people trying to justify bakugou's shitty behavior and piss poor "redemption arc" even though izuku hasn't had his opinion as the victim be given weight on page. And don't get me started on how no adults call him out despite teaching future heroes. "But I admire you anyway," and all that ilk isn't forgiveness and isn't bakugou addressing his past as a bully. It's a bullshit platitude that puts a bandaid over the bleeding bullet wound that is izuku and bakugou's writing (heavy on izuku, that poor boy was shafted in his own gd story)

my takeaway is that touya is a dramatic little shit who loves musical theatre. the dude literally dances around while talking about how his father abused him.

FINISHED WATCHING MHA MOVIE 2: HEROES RISING!!! SPOILERS AHEAD IF YOU HAVENT WATCHED IT

OH MY FUCKING GOD THIS WAS SO GOOD YO HOLY FUCK I LOVE IT AAAAAAAAAAAAA

This was truly My Bakudeku Academia. Watching that final battle felt like a religious experience- as if I was watching the birth of Christ. Holy fuck if that really was the original ending, with Deku passing OFA to Kacchan, and the whole "Oh it actually stayed with Deku and Bkg got amnesia" didn't happen, this would have been a dramatically different story moving forward.

Horikoshi really loves Bakugou- like absolutely no question. The story following this kind of ending would be about him continuing OFA's legacy with the guilt of a thousand suns on his shoulders for "taking away" Izuku's dream. Izuku would have continued the hero course as an actual quirkless student. I would love to see aus of this being canon and continuing their story from there.

I'm guessing Nine here was supposed to be AFO, and he would basically be gone too. Katsuma is perfectly set up to be the next protagonist (I can already imagine him using Cell Regeneration as Super Regeneration- he could become invincible while also healing others. Incredibly amazing quirk).

THEY ALSO MAKE IT ACTUALLY MAKE MORE SENSE HOW THE WHOLE CLASS IS SEPARATED ON AN ISLAND TOGETHER AS A WHOLE CLASS THIS TIME TOO (and not just half like last movie). They even managed to tie it in to AFO, the LoV, and Hero Society. Like it actually feels more grounded and reasonable why the class would be here alone with supervision.

They even add hints of Touya Todoroki with him having a short battle with Endeavor, Hawks spying in the LoV, the HSPC head cameo, and other little things too. Man I loved this fucking movie I would watch it 10 more times right now.

Thanks for the tiktok that was informative.

A lot of people and I have seen a lot of posts, I think mainly from League of villains stans have pointed out how the story is quite pro cop.

I, myself, am very critical of the direction mha takes in its messaging and specifically how it chooses to present the idea of breaking the cycle without really doing so.

You can clearly tell that the last chapter of MHA chapter 430 is supposed to show us society changing and breaking the cycle but honestly that chapter is so similar to the first chapter of mha it almost seems like we made no progress overall in the story.

Izuku's stagnant character and MHA's horrible messaging doesn't help the case of this story not seeming like a pro cop story because in the end the system doesn't change significantly whether that be from children still becoming heroes, the rankings of heroes still exsiting with an even bigger emphasis on people since some have statues and the all might and izuku parallels where both characters are shown to stand and do the same thing while depicting the same flawed ideology that doesn't change. An ideology that harms them and society overall.

I can go on and on but honestly there are a lot of posts on my blog and on the MHA critical side of tumblr that sum up the reasons as to why MHA isn't a great story especially if you look at its messaging and why some may label it as pro cop.
