“Will do, ma’am.” He courteously bowed down to her. “It’s a pleasure to meet you as well.”

“Chivalry is not dead it seems.” She said, having an arm out for him to grab and get up. “I’ll show you guys to Bebe and Red.” She walked to one of the booths on the sides, to which you two trailed behind her.

“Hey, Red. Hey, Bebe.” Brad greeted, waving to them and taking a seat on the empty side of the table.

“Hi, Brad.” The two of them greeted—Bebe with a bright smile and Red with a nod.

“I’m guessing that’s Ed,” Bebe inquired, pointing to your friend, who shuffled down and sat beside you.

“Mhm.”

“I’m gonna go get a drink. You four chit-chat, ‘kay?” YN interjected.

“Can you get me a refill on this whiskey? I’m all out.” Bebe asked, handing her empty glass to her.

“Gotcha.” She replied, grabbing the glass. ”Red, do you want anything?” The girl replied with a shake of the head. ”Okay.”

“I’m guessing she’s already had something to drink?” Brad said once she left.

“Yup, she downed a Long Island as soon as we got here,” Bebe explained, looking at her phone, presumably texting someone.

“Really? I can barely get through a drink in under half an hour, and she just finishes one whole drink like it’s nothing?”

“That’s our YN.” Red smiled, leaning her body onto Bebe’s shoulder.

“What time did you guys get here, by the way?” Brad asked.

“10:45, I think?” Bebe answered, now redirecting her focus on the two boys.

“That’s pretty early.”

“We had nothing better to do.” Bebe yawned. “What prompted you to bring Ed?”

“Well, this place is a little away from town, but Ed’s apparently been here before. He’s here to accompany me.”

“Cute, so he’s your date?” Red joked.

“I’m more like his plus one, but I’ll take it.” Ed beamed optimistically. ”I’d date Brad any day!”

“Considering it a date, then.”

“Thanks!” He said with a giggle. “I’m gonna go get a drink. You want anything, dude?” Ed offered, turning to Brad.

“You think you can get me a forty?”

“Oh, sure, definitely!” Ed reassured with a strong sense of eagerness as he made his way out of the booth.

Bebe had her back turned from Brad and Red as Ed walked away to grab their drink. As soon as he was out of earshot, she looked back at Brad. “Okay, we’re clear,” she expressed, letting out a sigh. “Brad.”

“Yes?” He responded accordingly, nervous.

The gravity of the people he was surrounded with settled in an instant. Right. He wasn’t just hanging out with some girl’s friends, he was hanging out with possible murderers. He wasn’t sure why, but he couldn’t help but not that Bebe’s stare at him was a deathly one. Red too, but she often had a cold look on her face anyway. No offense to her.

What were they going to do to him this moment? Hopefully nothing too bad. He did gain a little of their trust the last time he was out with them. Right? Agh, he hoped he wasn’t on their bad side.

Maybe it was his anxiousness messing with him, though. The only thinking he seems to have is overthinking anyway.

“YN’s probably gonna forget to ask you this, but you wanna join us on Friday? We’re gonna check on the guy we met up with last time, and you were solid last time. The girl wanted to bring you again.”

“We know that you know we’re some gang or whatever,” Red added.

Huh? What did that mean? Did that mean they knew he was undercover? He’s cooked for sure. It’s over for him now, isn’t it? He completely bombed the operation. Jesus Christ. Where the hell is Kevin now? He was supposed to help Kyle! He seemed to disappear so quick. Ohshitohfuck — abortabortabort! 

“At least a lot of people do anyway. We figured you’re one of them.” Bebe added further onto Bebe’s last statement.

Ah. It’s as if a hundred-kilogram weight was lifted off of Kyle’s chest.

“Ahahah, yeah!” Brad laughed, trying to cover up the tenseness on his shoulder.

“You know, I’m surprised you aren’t scared of us anyways.” Bebe laughed along with him.

“Love knows no bounds.” He joked, raising his arm proudly as he spoke.

“Fuckin’ romantic. Get your corny ass out of here.” Red said, finding herself laughing with the two of them now. Brad fake-scoffed in reply.

“So, are you coming with us or not?” Bebe asked, turning her head a bit to the side.

“Oh, yeah! Sure. I think I’m free.” He accepted, quickly looking through his phone to check his schedule.

“Perf. Meet us in front of the hotel at 10 PM, ‘kay?” The blonde smiled—a sharp contrast to her supposed deep stare at him a few moments ago.

“Gotcha.” Brad clicked his tongue, nodding.

“She really likes you, by the way.” Red hummed.

A smile crept up on the edge of his lips. Seems like he was doing his job right, then. He guessed that they haven’t found out that he’s undercover and that YN already likes him. Cool.

“Yeah?”

“Mhm. Don’t do anything funny or do anything stupid, though. You may like her, but she’s still healing.” Red said, tagging on her last statement. Again, Brad received a dirty look from her. Did YN’s friends like him or not?

“Healing? From what?” He asked, a little confused.

“She got back from a pretty bad breakup a little over a month ago,” Bebe explained, eyes drawn back again to her phone.

”If you fuck with her, you fuck with us. Yeah?” Red hissed at him, yet a smug grin on her face.

“She may act pretty reckless sometimes, but at the end of the day, she’s still human. She’s our best friend.” Bebe intervened one more, massaging Red’s shoulders to signal her to calm down.

“Yeah, I got that. It’s not like I’m dating her, though.”

“Yet,” Red mumbled, rolling her eyes.

Their conversation seemed to have dissolved, though. It ended in a quiet nothingness between the three. Kyle couldn’t help but feel a sense of hatred that came from the two. Perhaps they were just looking out for YN? As they said, she can be a wreck sometimes, but she still is their best friend.

A text message quickly swept him off from his thoughts, though.

As soon as his eyes scanned over the text, he looked to see where YN was. How convenient. She wasn’t in sight.

Immediately, a voice sweeps him out of his conversation.

“Damn, Brad!” The voice quickly gathers all three of the people’s attention. “I was joking about Ed looking good, but look! He’s going wild there!”

Quickly, Brad shot his gaze toward Ed, a hint of worry. There he was, Kevin, grinding on some girl. Keep in mind, it hasn’t even been five minutes since the guy deserted Kyle (and he probably hasn’t even had anything to drink yet), and the guy’s here already dry-fucking someone. Christ.

Whatever.

“Dude.” He stared at him disappointingly.

“Aww, your date ditched you.” Red snickered.

“How unfortunate,” Brad replied sarcastically, sighing as he rested his head on the table.

Eventually, Bebe and Red had to leave. Bebe had work to get to the next morning, and Heidi wanted Red home at that moment.

That leaves just you and Brad alone in the booth. You two were sitting right beside each other as the music pumped itself in your ears. Over the few hours you spent here, though, you’ve just learned how to tune it out.

“So that leaves just the two of us, huh?” Brad spoke up as soon as Bebe and Red had exited the room.

“Yeah.”

The empty air filled the silence that was between you two. The club was lively and it only seemed like it was going to just be louder. Despite the noise, you felt a serene quiet between the two of you, funnily enough. It was a quiet that you could find yourself comfortably basking in. Yeah, you could go the whole night by his side in this peacefulness.

And then the silence was disturbed.

You were the one to break it. “I’m gonna go out for a smoke. Do you wanna come?” You motioned your head to point to a door that stood in the back of the club. It lead to an empty alleyway only illuminated by the weak light of an adjacent lampost. He nodded suit and followed your stride outside the busy club.

You didn’t realize how cold it was since, as soon as you stepped outside, the air immediately bit onto your skin. The sensation made you shiver, causing you to bring your palms to your arms to provide some warmth.

Maybe Brad spotted the action because, next thing you know, he was shrugging his jacket off and placing it on your shoulders. You looked back at him curiously. Isn’t this dude a cop supposedly tracking you down? Why does he seem so nice to you? He’s probably just making you like him more, but he didn’t have to do that.

“Thanks.” You smiled, reaching into your bag and pulling out a cigarette and a lighter to light it up.

“Of course.” He returned the grin as you took a long drag from the stick.

“You want one?” He shook his head in reply. “Stand here, second-hand smoke.” You laughed, pulling him to a side farther away from the smoke. The wind passed through you and carried the toxins away from the direction you pulled Brad from.

He mumbled a ‘thank you’, to which you acknowledged with a hum. That wasn’t the only thing he had to say, though. “So, just curious, did you grow up in this town?” Brad scooted closer to YN, making sure to leave a small space for both of them to breathe.

“Well, no. I’m from upstate,” You breathed. It was true. You grew up and lived there for a good part of your life. “I moved here a few years ago. Did you grow up in this town?”

“Oh, yeah. I grew up all my life. I only moved out for college, but I returned here as soon as I graduated.” He smiled to himself as he set he rested his body weight on the wall.

You wondered if he was being honest. I mean, he seemed genuine, but he could have easily lied about that. Although, it doesn’t seem like too personal of a question as well. Maybe telling truth was better.

“So you know this place well?” You asked, shifting your view from the dirty, brick wall to him.

“Like the back of my hand.” He replied, his eyes already on you the whole time. Seeing his gaze on yours, you find yourself smiling

“Well,” you paused to think of the right words to use. ”Has this place always been, for lack of a better word, gloomy?” You asked. 

In your few years of residence here, you noticed that the place seemed to be a ghost town. Well, not completely, but it seemed to be so bleak and dreary. You just wondered, and maybe even hoped, that it was alive at one point.

“I guess not. I mean, crime has always been common here. The town used to be very lively and unique.” You could sense a certain distaste with how he said that last word. You didn’t press on it, though. ”It’s just that people change, you know?”

“Ah, yeah.” You nodded. ”What was it like before then?”

“Well, you know Cartman, right?” You nodded. Cartman, to you, was a friend. You’re well-acquainted with him, and on rare occasions you even get him to do your bidding. Speaking of which, you should probably ask him more about Kyle. “When we were kids—I shit you not—he killed this kid’s parents and fed them to him.”

“No way…” You said, your jaw slightly agape in shock. There is no way that shit was capable of that, especially as a little kid, right?  Maybe it was over something serious. ”Over what?”

“Cause the kid that picked on him, like, he stole 16 dollars and publicly humiliated him in front of the whole town.”

Your jaw seemed to go only lower. Brad found himself laughing at your reaction, amused. So was this kind of fucked-up shit normal to him? “You’re playing. There is no way that’s real.

“It really is!” He rose from his position and laughed along with you. “And get this: there’s this girl who sent her substitute teacher to the sun once.” He added.

“How, why?” 

“My best friend Stan and his girlfriend, Wendy, were together then, yeah? Stan had a crush on our substitute teacher, Ms. Ellen. Wendy got super jealous. When Ms. Ellen said that she was going to be a permanent teacher there, Wendy lost her shit, and so she decided to hire a few people to send her off into the sun.”

“The fuck? You all were kids when that happened?” you spoke. Brad had a knowing nod over your reaction.

“Yeah, there were a lot of other crazy things that happened when we were kids. Aliens, Cthulhu, or ManBearPig, it all felt normal to us honestly.” He smiled to himself. “I used to hate it here cause it seemed like nothing made sense all the time.”

“Let me guess, you were the peacemaker friend, then got tired and gave up on others?” You mused, rocking on your feet as you looked expectantly at him.

“Maybe,” he agreed, giving a brief nod. ”But I’d rather call myself the voice of reason.”

“How so?”

“I’d give ‘Today I learned’ type of speeches growing up, and whenever shit hit the fan, I was often the one to intervene and warn that the idea was stupid.”

“Uhuh,” you murmured at his sentiment, paying no mind to it. Not really a proper reply that said much, just to not leave him hanging on a response all that much. To be courteous, to shorten it all up.

You looked at Brad as if his eyes were somewhere else. ‘Maybe he was a respectable person,’ you thought to yourself. No, he definitely was. It’s just that you wouldn’t normally respect him in the kind of predicament you’re in. Not to say that you’ve been in a situation like this before, no. He just seemed a lot nicer than, you know, most other cops.

You wondered what would have happened if Bebe didn’t tell you that he was some narc. What would have happened? 

You weren’t sure why, but even if Brad was on the hot trail of arresting you for whatever reason, you felt like it was easy to be around him—at least when you’re not trying to play things safe. He seemed compassionate and genuine under the persona he was trying to play.

At the end of the day, though, he’s a guy trying to take you down. You shouldn’t enjoy his company.

“I know you said you’re tough and all, and it’s true I suppose, but you definitely don’t look like it. Have you had any run-ins with the police?” A risky question, but it would either mean he’d lie or get the hint you know. If he was going to with the former, what exactly would he say? In your peripheral, you could spot him tense up a little at your question.

He was a little slow to answer. “Uh, well, just a few times.” Oh? “Nothing too notable. Mostly just speeding tickets and stuff. I don’t really beat people up and stuff like you guys do—no offense.” He said, hastily adding that last part.

His eyes were fixed onto yours, which hadn’t met his. You could hear him faintly lear his throat up and chuckle with nervousness behind it.

“You seemed so scared. What’s the matter, Brad?” You laughed. “Are you actually a narc or something?”

“No. I mean, I would’ve arrested you on-site when you beat that guy up. That is if I were a cop.” He tried playing a cool guy, a confident person, but the tips of his ears were red. “You saw me scare that guy. I don’t think any of South Park’s force has the gut to do that.”

“Yeah, sure.” You hummed.

So I guess Joo Won took Dongshik’s joke of killing Joo Seon more seriously than he would’ve otherwise - is Joo Won suspicious of Dongshik?

when I was reading the ep 1 thoughts on reddit’s on-air thread of ep 1 and 2, someone mentioned they think the supermarket owner did it and had a ton of upvotes - which makes me think it’s true and people upvoted it after it was revealed. but if so, then they made the character who stutters a murderer?

Min Jeong the supermarket owner’s daughter isn’t coming home. based on the spoiler that a father kills his daughter + the theory that the supermarket owner is the murderer... 

Is she the mayor or something? also she reminds me of the mom from Midnight (After looking up on MDL, yes she is. 2 actors I didn’t know were in here but I managed to recognize; her and Lee Do Hyun)

Another person said he wasn’t the killer 20 years ago but maybe is the copycat killer now to get the attention back on this cast - not impossible but hmm. Someone mentioned the Joo Won might actually be trying to uncover something his father did here rather than only being here for Dongshik, which would make sense because that seems like their dynamic and they allude to them both or the father having done something bad.

I see on reddit that there’s the theory that someone had actually left the fingers on Dongshik’s basement table with the blood and so he set up the cameras etc and other stuff to get people to actually investigate the murder, even if he’s the one who’s seemingly at fault at first? 

I don’t know what exactly is going on but it seems like Dongshik knows something that other people don’t and also that he’s planning something like he literally put up the camera, cleaned but left that specific drop of blood untouched, didn’t stop joo won from investigating his basement, etc

Okay if we’re assuming based on spoilers that it really is the supermarket owner Jin Mook who is Min Jeong’s father and adopted brother of Dongshik: does Dongshik suspect him? Know that it’s him? latter probably not but maybe former? He seems suspicious of Jin Mook when he’s around their mother though but he seems touched by the beef now? with Jin Mook visiting him?

Did Park Jeong Je really confess to doing the same thing now as he did 20 years ago? Back then, he’d said he had drunk with Dongshik till dawn and now he’s also saying Dongshik was with him the night Min Jeong went missing 

but this could count for like 20 mins when he was at Dongshik’s home right? so he’s lying this time that he slept at Dongshik’s home... but the next morning Joo Won was there to see Dongshik leave his house, won’t he be like hmm I didn’t see Jeong Je there

So does that mean Jeong Je also lied when he said that he and Dongshik were drinking together that night? And he in fact hadn’t been with Dongshik? these small towns where everybody’s so involved with each other is just wild

why’s all this happening just a few hours before 48, just hold Dongshik for 48 hours and continue on tf - cover the bases in case he’s the culprit but also don’t twist things to keep him after 48 hours

It’s interesting how entangled all these people are and Joo Won is correct to be worried that they’re protecting each other. like Ji Hwa full on knew that Jihoon saw Min Jeong and also saw her with Jeong Je but since one’s her brother and the other’s her trusted friend, she didn’t tell anybody else even though they’re investigating her murder/disappearence

Ep 7: To Catch - 낚다 (Feb 5)

Can’t quite remember when I finished up ep 6 last night but I think it was 6-8pm and now it’s 4pm so it’s been like 20 hours :0 I lasted not watching this ep longer than expected but I think last ep’s cliffhangers wasn’t too bad for me

Dongshik and his old partner Sang Yeob were staking out on a guy suspected to have killed 3 women and Sang Yeob died after chasing that guy and getting shot

woahh Dongshik getting revenge for Sang Yeob by capturing the guy, almost shooting him, going for the handcuffs instead, fucker gets cocky and says “heh it was self defense” and that’s how he’ll get out of being responsible for Sang Yeob’s death, so Dongshik just bashes the guy’s skull against the concrete over and over till he dies I’m guessing

ah I did notice Dongshik looking at Min Jeong putting in her password 

Day of Min Jeong’s disappearance again - this time I think we’ll get more of Dongshik’s involvement I guess? how he had the fingers and the phone

so at around 8pm - people are at the meat shop, Jin Mook’s subducing Min Jeong, Jihoon is boutta come to the supermarket but Dongshik is there before him to return Min Jeong’s keychain

hmmm Dongshik puts on his hoodie and runs away when seeing that the supermarket was closed hm - oh I see he actually went on a run I guess?

 it makes sense that Dongshik was soooo out of it when he went to go get barbeque. he really found Min Jeong’s fingers and found out Jin Mook had done it and also mans was saying that Min Jeong was sleeping like a corpse

Dongshik found the burner phone Geum Hwa that used to text Joo Won - so Jin Mook def killed more than just Min Jeong - but did he also kill the girls from 20 years ago and was there anybody other than him

Suchh a good episode but we’re like 44% into the show... 9 eps left... what’s gonna happen omg You know in romance shows, when the couple is together and happy in like ep 9 out of 12, it’s like oh fucking fuck agh something’s gonna go wrong and that’s how it feels for this show. Catching the killer red handed in ep 7 why the fuck? What’s gonna happen for the other 56% of the show?

I hope it reaches new heights and murders my brain and doesn’t become repetitive because unlike Strangers From Hell where the repetitiveness was part of the horror, it’ll just become bland here

ah there are still mysteries such as why did Guem Hwa send those 1s that day. did she really see Dongshik or did she just send that in a panic 

lol Kwon and the audience both grumbling that Joo Won’s father only wants Han Joo Won’s name to be out and public and get special treatment about the arrest (1 joo won name revealed 2 details of case and suspect not revealed 3 lee dongshik’s name not revealed)

What did Chief know? Who helped Jin Mook die? Who killed Chief? etc

Ep 11: To Tighten - 조이다 (Feb 7)

It’s the break between my Tuesday classes and I’m spending that time starting another episode. I’m not even watching Never Let Me Go episode from today (read a few spoilers about it though) and instead watching this ah, I’m a bad student

Also, did Yoo Yeon have her fingers or no? How did she escape Jin Mook? also how is Cheol Moon involved hmm and was it joo won who sent CEO the CCTV clip or someone else? ah fuck i’m mad that I have like 4 more hours of stuff to do before I can watch the next ep

I'm so fucking stupid and only watched 1 ep yesterday because last night i was supposed to do some homework then watch ep 12 of beyond evil but i kept procrastinating for hours upon hours, so i only just finished the work at 12:30 and couldn’t watch another ep. ahh it’s even more annoying that i didn’t even procrastinate by watching an episode because i kept thinking i can’t start an 1h ep, i’ll be starting my work in like 5 minutes! 3 hours later i hadn’t started work nor watched an ep

Poor Yoo Yeon for real; she escaped the car while Jin Mook was dragging the other girl’s body and still got run over so many times and left for dead

we got a glimpse last episode of Yoo Yeong’s death so I thought we know most of the things but they seem to have endless tricks up their sleeves

Ep 13: To Ask - 묻다 (Feb 8)

Oof, no wonder all 3 of the councilwoman, Jin Lee, and Han Chief all ended up seeing Yoo Yeon’s body, they were all together and drinkingright before that. Makes more sense than them all stumbling upon her on their own

so Dongshik did catch the fact that Yoo Yeon can’t have been lying down

ya going back to how Han Gi Hwan closed the case just 4 months after Yoo Yeon’s disappearence

Wonder what the other phone is for though

I wish the ending was juuust a bit more drawn out or not given us an ‘1 year later’ because I need either a bit more of all of them together and Dongshik/Joo Won or I need none of it so that I am solely responsible for my imagination. Like to go from such such such deep emotions during Joo Won arresting Dongshik to this casual, almost detached feeling even though they clearly still care for one another is too much for me. 

Overall:

Ah, 17-ish hours passed with this story and characters. 

Interesting how I started the show for one reason (serial killer, who-dun-it) but after Kang Jin Mook’s capture and death, the show seemed to be like a new season but with the same overarching Yoo Yeon plot and became more about politicians and legalities. Yet, it kept me engaged.

The writing of this show was really good, I thought the unravelling was quite good and even when we were a few steps ahead of the main characters as the audience, it didn’t lose the edge and also the characters caught up quickly enough. There may be plot holes but nothing sticks out to me and that’s what’s important. The characters were also really well written and given depth. The acting is great, the directing was soooo good in some places like congrats on this cinematography and directing choices, and the music was good too. 

Also, it’s director and scriptwriter are both women, which is great, especially for this type of series that focuses so much on female victims

I’ve not been feeling romance for the past few weeks but Dongshik/Joo Won did manage to give me intense brain worms. Especially because in the first half, I was more worried about the girls and catching the killer etc and they had an interesting enough dynamic then with the antagonizing but after there wasn’t An Imminent Threat in the 2nd half is when we started getting more of their dynamics and such. They seemed so fucking gay in the text, not subtext, in the last few eps, esp the last episode. I will often look at same gendered friends and be like ah they are madly in love but did this show specifically want me to think of them that way because it sure seemed like it at the end, though I will choose to believe that they will continue to be very close after the show ends and not see each other’s face once a year or something.

Very good, I think I’ll rewatch this sometime and also gonna go read fics. Rewatching will for sure be interesting as I get to see more things, like even at the very first scene, young Kang Jin Mook is seen being asked to move things

@boykujou HIII CLEO!!! yesyes, in contrast to what i said earlier, i think he’s actually pretty good at writing. since he’s so un-expressive about his feelings out loud, he uses writing as a way of expressing himself without actually having to speak it into existence. we love a repressed king. anyways, i’m picturing him spending countless hours writing and then re-writing to make the perfect poem for you. i feel like, at first, it’d be very rough and blunt — the last line of the poem simply being “i like you.” but he gets more and more expressive with each draft.

One page, one kiss (Sirius black x Gn!reader)

Summary: Reader wants to read but Sirius isn’t much of a reader. Maybe kisses can create a good compromise.

Warnings: sooooo things didn’t go as planned and now there’s a steamy kiss, some hand on thigh action and a little hinting at the possibility of other things. That being said I feel like it’s pretty PG13 and sfw so it’s up to you if you want to read it or not. Other than that there aren’t any, everything else is fluff.

Word count: 1119

A/n: So I had a whole outline and everything planned out and then this “steamy” kiss (but it’s not acc steamy, like I don’t want you to get your hopes up) and all sort of came out of nowhere. Sorry about that folks! The kiss per page is a thing that my boyfriend created to motivate me to read cuz I’m not much of a reader (though I really am trying to read more). I feel like there’s always more important things to do than read but once I start I actually really like it. I sort of saw Sirius like me in that sense.

“So what do you want to do today?” Asks Sirius, walking towards you. You lift a finger to tell Sirius to wait as you finish reading your sentence. You then place that finger on the word on your page, saving your place and look up at him.

“Read.” You state simply from the couch.

There’s a stutter in his step. “All day?” He asks, a pure look of shock on his face.

“All day.” You affirm with a small proud smile. Sirius plops on the couch next to you with a heavy sigh.

“What am I to do?” He huffs, throwing his arms in the air and pouting. You smile to yourself, there’s nothing cuter than a pouting Sirius Black. You slide over to him and turn to face him. You push a strand of his hair behind his ear.

“You could read too, you know.” There’s no judgment in your recommendation. Your voice is soft and patient. You know Sirius doesn’t like to read much but you try to encourage him to do things, much like he does for you.

Sirius being Sirius, is dramatic enough to fall onto your lap and cover his eyes, as if trying to hide from the idea of reading. You roll your eyes but you have nothing but adoration for Sirius.

“Aw c’mon Sirius, give it a try.” You nudge him with your elbow. He peaks between his fingers hesitantly. You tickle his chin gently and flash an enticing smile. Sirius doesn’t move, apparently not ticklish. You try to pull his hands away from his eyes instead. He finally gives in and let’s you gently pull them down to his chest. You hold his hands in place, rubbing circles on the back of them.

You lean down for a short kiss on the lips. Sirius hums and chases your lips as you pull away and sit back up. He pouts again, giving you puppy dog eyes for another kiss.

That’s when you get a wicked idea. You push a finger to Sirius’ lips and smile. “I’ve got an idea.”

Sirius tilts his head, waiting for you to elaborate. “We make a deal. For every page read, you get a kiss.” You propose.

Sirius thinks about it. You know he’s trying to find a loophole. A way he can get kisses without having to crack open a book. You patiently run your hand through his hair, knowing he’ll eventually cave.

“Fine.” He sighs. You try to hide your smile. It’s a delicate victory. He could change his mind anytime. You pick up your wand from the couch armrest and summon Sirius’ book. It takes a while, he probably buried it deep under a pile of clothes.

Sirius settles next to you, opening his book with a sigh. You give him a teasing hum before opening your own book and starting to read.

You flip your page once you’ve finished reading the last sentence and quickly start the new page, engrossed in your story.

“Kiss.” You jump a little, forgetting Sirius was even next to you. You give him a confused look before you remember your deal. You smile softly, gladly accepting a kiss from your boyfriend.

You lean forward and plant a short and sweet kiss to Sirius’ lips. When you pull back, Sirius gives you a triumphant look, happy with his little victory.

The same situation happens again after every page you or Sirius finishes. Soon enough Sirius finishes his first chapter and sits up.

“You know, I worked pretty hard to get to the end of this chapter.” He pauses.

You nod slowly, “yes, and I’m very proud of you for that.” There’s a hint of hesitation in your voice. You know your boyfriend too well to know this is just him recognizing his accomplishment.

“I think it’s only fair I get 15 kisses for finishing the chapter.” He gives you an innocent look but you can see his mischievous smile on the corner of his lips.

You lift your eyebrows and gape at Sirius. You quickly compose yourself and smile. “Is that right?” You taunt.

Sirius nods seriously. He stares into your eyes and doesn’t budge. You try to fight it, your competitive side not wanting to face but eventually you roll your eyes, accepting defeat.

“We’ll I suppose I won’t turn down the opportunity for a few more kisses.” You say with a sarcastic sigh. In seconds Sirius is hovering close to your face. You wrap your arms around his neck and pull him in.

The first couple of kisses are just little pecs on the lips but soon your kisses evolve into open mouthed ones. Sirius brings his hand up to your face and cups your cheek. He places his second hand behind your head and guides you down on the couch so you’re lying down. He props one arm on either side of your head and slips his tongue past your lips. You grab the back of his head and pull him even closer, deepening the kiss.

Thirteen, fourteen, fifteen. You count in your head.

You push on Sirius’ chest and he groans. “That’s fifteen. Back to your book mister.” You say cheekily.

Sirius steps off of you and grabs his book. You sit up and settle back on the couch with your book. Suddenly there’s a warm hand curled around your thigh. He never looks away from his book but there’s a gentle squeeze when you look at him with wide eyes. Maybe reading isn’t the only thing you’ll be doing today after all.

Turns out you were severally wrong. As Sirius goes from page to page and chapter to chapter, the kisses become rushed and almost undesired. You realize Sirius is so hooked in his book that he would rather read than kiss. Eventually he even stops kissing you altogether.

While you do miss the cute little kiss routine, you are happier to see Sirius being so engrossed into his story. It also gives you the chance to read without interruption. Eventually Sirius lays his head in your lap with his book held up above his head. You play with his hair and focus on your own book, sometimes looking down to watch him zoom through his book.

Hours fly past, the both of you lost in your books. You first spot it out of the corner or your eye. Sirius turns another page and you realize he is at the last one of his book. There’s a sudden pride that swells in your chest. Comparing the morning where he was whining about having to read and him now finishing his book.

He suddenly snaps his book shut, breaking the relaxing silence in the room. He sits up and turns to look at you. You open your mouth to comment on how happy you are that he completed a book but he speaks first.

“You owe me 510 kisses.” His face is dead serious. He sits with his book closed on his lap and waits. When you don’t move, feeling quite stunned, he puckers his lips a little and gives you puppy dog eyes.

There’s the Sirius you know. Always finding loopholes in every situation.
