#that’s on purpose misspelled in case that’s an actual tag

Okay so I've had a few ppl do this tag game and not know what my url is so here's an elaboration :D
(apparently another case of my autistic ass finding like super specific stuff relating to my interests and not realizing it isn't actually common information 😭)
But in case you didn't know my url is a slight misspelling of a name for a family in the Lepidoptera order! (moths & butterflies)
They contain the largest Lepidoptera, and some of the largest living insects overall– a good example would be the Atlas moth, with an impressive wingspan of 24 cm! (larger than the average human hand) which is also probably my all time favorite moth!!!
Anyways my url is based off me going by Moth online (which is also related to my actual name, funnily enough). It's not just for aesthetics bro I am a dedicated Saturniidae and Lepidoptera super fan.
I've a big fascination with (ethical! Always do research before purchasing taxidermy and related items!!) insect pinning as well; I've got a rather small collection I'm currently working on expanding, a few years back I went to a pinning class for a deathshead moth (though I've yet to put it up 💀) and it was really fun!!! I think these animals are genuinely so beautiful and endearing they deserve to have their beauty preserved and shared with the world (especially considering they have such short lifespans) as well as finding the practice of insect pinning for educational purposes fun! Ironically I have an aversion to live insects but still love learning about them! :)
Anyways I hope anyone who follows me/is a mutual and wasn't sure what my url meant finds this helpful! Sorry it kind of turned into a bug ramble
Picture of my collection below the cut!!!
The Atlas (top left) is what got me into collecting, it was a birthday gift from my mom :D

Sorry this isn't a great picture but it's like 3am rn so it's not like the lighting would be any better 😭

Would you be willing to share what extra tone indicators you and your discord server invented? I am fascinated to hear about them!
There are quite a few (we have a whole channel dedicated to them for reference purposes) but I’ll just list some of the ones I find most useful and/or use most often. All examples shown here are real messages from the server.
/flr (for legal reasons, as in "for legal reasons this is a joke.")
basically an extension of /j but more specifically used when talking about activities that are illegal, insinuate the desire to cause harm to self/others, or just generally could get someone in trouble if taken seriously.
Example: "if one of those silly ass motherfuckers says 'boys will be boys' I will personally give them bottom surgery with vintage lawn shears /flr"
/jbnr (joking but not really)
for when things are said in a joking tone but the sentiment is still true, or when the statement is hyperbolic. similar to /hj but somewhat less vague
Example: "i live off of mountain dew and spite /jbnr"
/citation needed (like the wikipedia tag)
for when the statement may or may not be true, but the author doesn't have the time and/or energy to verify, so be skeptical in case it is incorrect. can be used in place of qualifiers like "iirc," "I'm not sure though," or "but don't take my word for it"
Example: "Isn’t Disney like, the fourth greatest supply of explosives in the world? /citation needed"
/lies
for when the statement is untrue. usually used for comedic effect. similar to /j (joking) but specifically for lies. can also be used when a statement was not intended as a lie, but ended up not being true after all.
Example: "starting two new tv shows at 11pm on a monday, this is a good decision /lies"
/sic (as in the latin adverb)
any misspellings or incorrect grammar in this statement are intentional, not typos.
Example: "why is it 80 degrees it's fuckimg NOVEMBER /sic"
/autism, /adhd, and variants
a self-aware nod to the fact that the statement was influenced by the author's neurodivergence
Example: "man i love public transit /autism"
/with love
similar to /genuine or /not mad. for when what you’re saying might seem mean, but it comes from a place of genuine care for the person it’s directed towards
Example: "go microwave a potato or something /with love"
Honorable Mentions:
/context and /clarification
/idk (for when you don't know which tone tags are appropriate)
/unless (a reference to this meme)
/called out (defensive but usually lighthearted. "we know, but hey")
/I don't want to diagnose ppl but what neurotypical person rides a unicycle (this is more of a one-off joke than an actual tone tag but I'm adding it anyway)
#words words words#tone tags#ended up adding more of them than i intended#for context (since this ask is several months old) this discord server has less than twenty people in it#and only around ten or so that are consistently active

AO3 stats project: data provenance
A few years ago, I was curious about some of the characteristics of works posted on the Archive of Our Own, so I scraped some (lots) of data and went about analyzing it. This series of posts describes that analysis. It’s broken down into 7 posts; this is the first one, describing the data set and how it was collected.
The Data | Basic Questions | Fandoms | Tags | Correlations | Kudos | Fun Stuff
Thanks to @eloiserummaging for beta reading these posts; any remaining errors are my own. A Python notebook showing the code I used to make these plots can be found here.
In case you’ve wandered in here without knowing about the Archive of Our Own (aka AO3), here’s a brief primer. It’s a fan-run, nonprofit archive for all kinds of “fan works”--that means fanfiction, but also other media such as fanart, podfic (fanfiction audiobooks), fanvids (audiovisual media), meta (fanwork criticism), etc. The AO3 has a ratings system and a warnings system, but they’re both optional in the sense that you can choose an “abstain” option (“No Rating” or “Choose Not To Use Archive Warnings”, respectively). When you do a search or look at an index page, you can generally see the title, fandom, creator, summary, warnings, rating, category (since many fanworks are romantic/sexual in nature, this is basically either “gen” for no romance, or the gender configuration of the main relationship(s)), language, word count, comment count, kudos count (you leave “kudos” for the author instead of hitting a “like” button), and whether the work is part of a series. On many works, but not all, you can also see the hit count--this is turned on by default, but authors can turn it off. And finally, there are also generally a number of freeform tags. The AO3 has one of the best tagging systems out there, and I’ll make use of that in some later posts.
Before we get into this, I wanted to shout out @destinationtoast, who has been on the fan stats beat for years. Some of what I’m going to show in the next few posts will duplicate work she or others have done. I’m still showing it because our data collection methods are different, and so the answer they get and the answer I get may be different. Redoing some of the analysis means that all the graphs I am showing are self-consistent. But you should really go check out @toastystats and her great masterpost of stuff if you’re interested in this topic.
For my analysis, I collected data by scraping AO3 works pages in most fandoms over a period of several years, skipping large subfandoms so I didn’t duplicate information--e.g., I did not download “Stargate: SG-1” data because all of those works are also included in “Stargate - All Media Types”. I attempted to be kind to the server load by leaving lag times between successive pages and taking frequent breaks, and I also have regularly donated to the OTW, more than enough to offset the cost of my downloads for this project. The total amount of data is well under a single day’s load on the servers, and collected over several years, although I would guess that on my peak downloading days I was probably the #1 user by data volume.
Here’s what the actual collection dates look like:
I grabbed a bunch of stuff in 2015, updated again in 2016, let things lie for 18 months, and then picked back up. So the data set I have contains everything posted in 2017 or earlier that was still available when I collected the data, and most (but not all) of the data posted in 2018 or later.
To avoid re-downloading, if I went back to update a previously-downloaded fandom, I only went back far enough to get to the newest works I’d seen the previous time I downloaded. That means that anything posted before 2016 or so is “frozen” in this data set--it hasn’t had its hits, kudos, or comments updated, and if other changes were made (orphaning, deletion) that is also not captured. If a work moved up in the sort date (for example, if it had a new chapter added), the new data was used instead of the earlier collected data.
I was not logged in, so no private works appear anywhere in this data set. (So you should probably think of this as “stats of public AO3 works” not “stats of AO3 works”--they will probably be different because some fandoms are more likely to privatize their fic than others.) Because I’m not able to get individual permission from authors to show their data, I’ll only be showing aggregate data--the rough cutoff in my head is that I only show data points that represent >1000 works.
I also wanted to download tag information, because the Archive tagging system allows users to choose any tags they like, and then bundles those tags into synonyms in the backend--allowing somebody to misspell a tag “John Waston” instead of “John Watson”, for example, but preserving that they meant “John Watson” for purposes of searching. I downloaded the tag description page for any tag which appears in the data >=500 times and used that data to unify all synonyms of the most-used tags. Tag pages are not redownloaded once downloaded, so tag updates since May 2015 are mostly not represented here, except for a few tags which crossed my lower-cutoff threshold sometime between May 2015 and 2018.
Overall, I downloaded meta-information for 4,337,545 works. I won’t be sharing this dataset because it includes now-deleted works, but if you have a question that a dataset like this could answer, I can try to answer that question, time allowing.

Steak Out -- TiB Drabble
Steak Out
Warnings: Smut. Maybe some plot. Mostly smut. And pie.

Notes: Aaliyah and Dean are stuck on a stake out together. Yes, the misspelling title is on purpose.
Aaliyah traced her knee and leg with an index finger in her attempt to stay focused on the mission. She was well into hour six of a stake out related to the case she and the boys were working on. Dean had gone out for a quick supply run with the promise he wouldn’t be gone long. A rap at a window startled Aaliyah into reaching for her hand gun before recognizing it was Dean.
“Got your choice of energy drinks and other caffeinated beverages,” he said as he slid into the front of Baby. “And of course, pie.”
Aaliyah smirked as she reached for the first of energy drinks. “Apple or cherry?”
“Apple, just like mom used to make.” Dean flipped open the plastic container and pulled out a fork before digging in.
“Don’t think I’ve ever had pie,” Aaliyah let slip before sipping her drink. She panicked a little when Dean seemed to choke on the bite he had just taken.
“Never had pie?”
Aaliyah shook her head. “Not much food in the house growing up, remember?”
“Here, try a bite,” Dean said with a bite in his mouth.
Aaliyah turned to see him forking a piece of apple pie and turning it around to her. Dean hadn’t been to give up any of his food, especially pie, ever since she had known him. So why would he change it up now? She reached out to take the fork from him, only for him to pull it away. Aaliyah narrowed her eyes at him. Why offer a bite only to take it away? She reached out again, shifting in the reach. Still, Dean refused to give the bite. One more reach …
The kiss was quick enough Aaliyah hadn’t been sure it actually happened. She looked into the dark green eyes that stared back to her mismatched eyes. It happened alright. Aaliyah lunged for Dean, her lips on his. He didn’t pull away, one hand still holding the pie container and the other on her cheek.
“We shouldn’t,” he told her once they parted for a breath.
“Yeah, sure.” Aaliyah returned to the passenger seat, a leg tucked under the other. She searched for the energy drink to find she had dropped it. It was something to clean up when given the chance. She finished off what was left and set the can in the backseat. Her finger picked up the leg tracing from earlier. Keeping her eyes directed to the area she and Dean were staking out, Aaliyah couldn’t keep her mind from the kiss.
She dared to glance over to Dean. He had put the pie up on the dash and stared out the window. A thought popped into Aaliyah’s mind. She reached over for the container even as Dean shot her a look. She ignored the look and removed some of the pie with a couple fingers. With a glance up to Dean, Aaliyah reached out and put what was on her fingers on Dean’s face.
He snapped his head around, his nose flared in mild anger. Aaliyah silenced any verbal argument from him by latching her lips onto his. She shifted to resting on a knee on the seat and a foot on the floorboard. Aaliyah pulled away just enough to see what expression graced Dean’s face. Shock mixed with … something she couldn’t place just yet. Aaliyah teased him by eating the pie she put on his face off.
A calloused hand teased at the hem of her shirt.
Aaliyah pulled away as she lifted her shirt from her body, her head getting stuck for a brief moment. She watched Dean lean over, shifting toward her. She pulled her legs out from under her as he stopped just long enough to strip his own shirt off. It gave her time to shed the sports bra that had seen better days.
Dean worked his way over, settling his hips between her legs.
Aaliyah’s eyelids half fluttered as he started at the spot where her neck merged with a shoulder. She worked her hands over his back as he worked his way down, a hand teasing an already pert nipple and his mouth on the other. Muscles worked away as she grew wet.
Down over her stomach, Dean turned a little as he placed kisses on the scars Aaliyah gained from the werewolf years ago.
“Dean …” she half moaned. Her hands moved between them, unbuckling her belt.
A third hand came in and finished what she started before sliding in. There was little play now as a finger found her bud and circled it.
Aaliyah closed her eyes as her torso rose up on her shoulders. A mouth found the other breast as the hand found the source of her wetness. She kicked off her shoes as her hands located Dean’s pants. She scrambled a little in her haste to open them. She had just managed to pull the zipper down after the button before Dean pulled away. Aaliyah was about to protest when cool air hit her legs. Her pants were a lost thought as her body spazzed when a tongue made contact with her bud.
Her hips moved on their own accord as Dean worked her up to the point of release. Nearly there, she looked down to see Dean freeing himself from his pants. He shifted around, sitting to pull the jeans from his bowlegs.
Aaliyah took in the sight of Dean being fully erect and took the chance. She curled herself around and latched her mouth on Dean’s to prevent him from saying anything before straddling him. He started to fight before relaxing when she straddled him. Aaliyah pulled back just enough to look at him, a question in her eyes. A nod was all she needed. A few small adjustments and she lowered herself onto Dean. Her breath caught a couple times as she sunk down on him.
His arms wrapped around her, holding her close to him. Aaliyah rocked her hips, working both of them. Her head rolled back, revealing her chest to Dean. He planted kisses on her exposed skin, teasing down her valley.
Her release was close, oh so close. Aaliyah fought it off as much as she could.
“Aaliyah.” Dean’s voice had grown husky. “Stop, wait.”
She heard the plea, wanted to feel him in her as she came.
A hip roll.
“Aaliyah.”
Once more. Nearly there. Her arms wrapped around his neck.
“Aal…”
She tightened, her body flooded with dopamine and filled with warm juices. Aaliyah rested her forehead on Dean’s, allowing her body to come down from the high, staying straddled on Dean’s lap. He didn’t fight her off, holding her to him. There was an odd sort of comfort that Aaliyah felt before she finally removed herself from Dean. Her mind moved slow as she moved around the car, gathering her clothes and dressing. She leaned over to Dean and gave him a lingering kiss.
“We’d have to do this more often.”

NPHofRPH’s Sing-Along Glossary of Roleplay Terms
The quintessential dictionary for the new RPer, or the veteran RPer who wants to get caught up on all the new-fangled slang them young folks are using.
(Note: does not actually come with any particular melody, but feel free to make one up as you go and hum it.)
1x1: A roleplay between just two people, you and your partner.
2x2: A roleplay between four characters. Not sure why it’s referred to this way. I guess the characters are all supposed to have paired up by the end of it?
4x4: Wait, are we stilling pairing them up, or can this just be eight characters?
32x32: Apparently we just like dividing by two in this neck of the woods.
Activity Check: A time when the admins go through the characters of a roleplay and make sure that they’re all still posting and haven’t run away from home.
Admin: The manager or moderator of a roleplay group; the one who’s in charge of creating the roleplay and keeping it running.
Angst: Piling on the hurt - usually emotional, sometimes physical - for your character to endure. Really fun. You should try it. Be a malevolent god.
Anon Hate: A message someone sends anonymously detailing why they despise you and what they’ve done to your mother, or threatening you in some way. Honestly, it’s hard to be threatened by that little gray fella with the sunglasses, but okay.
Apartment RP: A roleplay in which all or most of the characters live in a single apartment building.
Application: A description of your character to submit in order to be considered to join a roleplay group. Like a job interview, but not as painful.
Appless RP: A roleplay where you don’t have to fill out an application. Just insert a couple of details about your character onto a little form and you’re in. Quality may vary.
Ask Meme: A post containing a list of questions for others to send to your character.
AU: Alternate universe. This is where the characters of the work are placed in a setting or scenario not present in canon. For example, characters who are superheroes in their canon work meeting as ordinary high school students instead.
Backstory: The events of a character’s life that occurred before the beginning of the roleplay. Doesn’t have to be tragic. Is usually tragic.
Bandom RP: A roleplay in which the characters are in a band. It’s a pun, see. A portmanteau of “band” and “fandom”, I think. I’m assuming. I mean, I’m not a roleplay etymologist or anything.
Bio RP: A roleplay in which a detailed description of the character’s background and personality is required in the application.
Blogroll: A page which displays all the blogs that a user is following.
BroTP: Like an OTP (see below), except for best buddies instead of romantic partners.
Bubble Roleplaying: Roleplaying with only a select few characters or members in a group RP setting and ignoring the others.
Canon: The stuff that the original writer of a work made. For an RP group, this consists of the plot, additional info, and any characters made by the admins intended to be a part of the overall story. For other works, it’s simply everything that occurs in the work.
CBR: Could be related. Two faceclaims who could play biological family members.
Celebrity RP: A roleplay in which you play actual celebrities as characters. These exist for some reason.
Charrie: Short for character. Not to be confused with Carrie, a Stephen King novel in which a girl gets a bit power-crazy with her telekinesis.
City RP: A roleplay in which the plot takes place in a single city as its primary or only setting. Like a town RP, but the buildings are taller.
Closed Starter: A starter made for a particular blog to reply to. Sure, you can still reply to it if it wasn’t intended for you, but it’ll just lead to secondhand embarrassment for all involved.
Contained Theme: A theme that is frightened. It tries to hide from predators by curling up and making itself smaller.
Crackship: A relationship between two characters whose pairing seems unlikely or absurd.
Crackship Gifs: Gifs of two characters edited together so that it appears the characters are interacting with each other.
Crossover: A work consisting of elements from two or more works or fandoms.
Cross-tagging: Tagging a post with related things that are not actually in the post. For example, tagging a picture of Wonder Woman with ‘#superman’. Don’t do this. It’s all of the annoying.
CW: Content Warning. Same as trigger warning. See below.
Defiantly: Definitely, but misspelled.
DM: Dungeon Master. The person who is in charge of - wait, hang on, wrong type of roleplay. Sorry about that. Move along.
Drabble: Technically it’s a story of exactly 100 words, but it’s more used to just refer to a very short standalone piece about a character or characters in a particular single scenario.
Dry Docking: The opposite of shipping. When two characters who are a couple in canon are either broken up or were never together in the first place in your fan work or RP.
Event: In a roleplay group, an occurrence in the story in which all characters can participate. Also can be several days in which the verse is altered, such as a Future Week or other AU.
Exclusive: In a fandom-related independent RP, when the mun will RP with only one version of a particular character. For example, an indie RP playing Hermione Granger only interacts with a single indie Ron Weasley blog, and others who play Ron must go elsewhere.
FxF: A romantic pairing between two female characters, usually in 1x1 roleplay.
Face-chaser: Someone who pursues a roleplay or ship with a character based on their faceclaim instead of their characterization or the writing.
Faceclaim/FC: A real-life person used to represent what a roleplay character looks like.
Faceless Gifs/Images: Gifs or images that can be used in roleplaying regardless of the character’s faceclaim, since a person’s face is not visible or present in the gif or image.
Female Ban: An element in some works of dystopian fiction wherein the government or other higher power attempts to suppress a population by eliminating females and thus making it hard to procreate... Hang on, no, I’ve just been informed that it’s when an RP doesn’t allow any more female characters to be added to the group. Presumably, male bans exist too, but I think that’s just an urban legend.
First Look: A type of review based on a quick glance over the roleplay and what first impressions the reviewer gleaned from it.
Floating Timeline: A concept in roleplay that suggests that events in threads that are being written at a particular time do not necessarily take place in that time in-story. So, if a character has multiple ongoing threads, they are not actually in multiple places at once.
Fluff: Scenes that do not involve any significant obstacle and instead are intended to give the characters time to just have fun and be cute together.
Gif Chat: A type of roleplay thread in which each post is accompanied by a gif to illustrate the character.
Gif Hunt: Collection of gifs gathered from throughout tumblr or from various sources.
Gif Icons: Collection of gifs that are 100x100 pixels in size. Sometimes people make them 90x90 or 75x75 for what I can only assume are unsavory purposes. Don’t let your guard down around those things.
Gif Pack: Collection of gifs in which all of the gifs are made by the person posting the pack, and usually are all from the same source (the same movie, TV episode, etc.)
Godmodding: Collectively refers to powerplaying, metagaming, or both. See below.
Gore: Explicit and/or graphic violence and blood. A challenge to see how many synonyms for “red” you know.
Gossip Blog: A blog affiliated with a roleplay group that talks about and passes judgment on the characters. Sometimes can be fun, if managed well, but often creates all species of drama.
Headcanon: Something that an individual or fandom believes to be true about a story or character, even though it is not shown to be the case in the canon work.
Hiatus: Taking a break from roleplaying due to real life occurrences taking priority. As if anything could be more important than finishing those replies, pfft! The nerve.
IC: In-character. The actions, thoughts, and posts of the character; the stuff that occurs in the roleplay proper.
Icons: Also called static icons, a 100x100 image of the character or faceclaim used to illustrate the character in lieu of gifs.
I’m sorry, what did you say?: An extremely vague starter. For some reason, people keep making this starter, despite it annoying and frustrating people. Like an Alvin and the Chipmunks film.
Independent RP/Indie RP: A roleplay blog or character not associated with any particular established RP group.
IRL: In real life. Don’t worry, you won’t have to use this one often. Nothing ever happens in real life.
Kik: Something that I recently learned is not a dating site, as I had thought. This is all I know.
KRP: A roleplay that uses K-Pop artists as faceclaims exclusively or nearly exclusively. This community has some terminology of its own that I don’t know, but most of it’s similar to the rest of the RPC.
Label: A brief descriptor or trope used to describe a character in an application. Some examples are The Scholar, The Heartbreaker, The Intrepid Reporter, The Lizard Tamer, etc.
Literate RP: An RP that is highly writing-focused and requires longer posts and replies than other roleplays. Despite the misleading name, it is not actually saying that other roleplays are illiterate.
LSRP: Legit Serious Roleplay. Same as Literate RP. Yes, this acronym is ridiculous, just roll with it.
MxM: A romantic pairing between two male characters, usually in 1x1 roleplay.
Magic Anon/M!A: A post for which you invite others to make your character take on a certain trait or action for a select period of time.
Main: In a group, the blog that contains all of the information and updates for the roleplay. Home base, basically.
Manip: A graphic edit of two faceclaims in which they are photoshopped to look like they’re in a picture together.
Mary Sue: A character whose unreasonable ease or difficulty in overcoming obstacles, forming relationships, and/or gaining accolades runs contrary to the intent of the writer and makes it difficult for the reader to get invested in the story or character arc. Also, apparently, a term used to refer to any female character you don’t like.
Mature RP: A roleplay that may contain dark or adult themes, and thus doesn’t allow players under the age of 18. Seriously, if you’re under 18, don’t lie about your age. That’s a dick move.
Meme: A post that features small prompts that others can send in to begin a thread. Elsewhere on the internet, this term refers to drawings of sad frogs.
Metagaming: Letting your character have in-character knowledge that they shouldn’t logically possess, just because the mun has it.
Mod: Another term for admin. We could never settle on one term for them. It’s like the couch vs. sofa dilemma.
Moodboard: A collection of images or gifs used to sum up a character’s personality.
Multifandom: Similar to Crossover, although usually used to refer to a work with elements from three or more works or fandoms.
Multi-Storyline/Multiverse: In independent roleplay, when the character exists in more than one universe at once, such that threads with a character do not impact the events of threads with a different character.
Mumu: Multi-muse. In which a single blog is used to play more than one character.
Mun: The writer/roleplayer. The person who’s controlling the character. You. This is you. Use this power wisely.
Muse: The character that you roleplay. Also, a Greek goddess who presided over the arts, although this definition is usually irrelevant in roleplay.
Musing: Posts that represent the character’s personality, history, or thoughts in someway, such as aesthetic photos, songs, or philosophical rants.
Mutuals: Blogs on tumblr that are both following each other.
MW: Most wanted. A character or faceclaim that admins or members in a group would really like someone to play.
NoTP: When some people think that two characters would make a good couple, and you would like to stab those people with a fork for being so stupid.
Novella: Very long format for roleplaying, in which responses should contain several paragraphs of writing. Don’t worry, you don’t actually have to write a novella; a reply shorter than 20,000 words is still acceptable.
NPC: Non-playable character. A character who is present in the roleplay’s universe, but is not played by any one particular writer.
NPH of RPH: That’s me!
NSFW: Not safe for work. Nudity, sex, graphic violence. Basically, the stuff that you absolutely don’t want to come across while browsing at the public library.
OC: Original character. A character you make that is not part of the canon or not pre-written for the RP group.
One-liner: Roleplay consisting of only a single line or a few short lines. Sometimes referred to as “action roleplay” wherein actions are interspersed with speech. For example: “*Enters the room and throws confetti into the air.* I have arrived!”
OOC: Out of character. Can be used to denote that the writer is currently speaking or posting as themselves, rather than as a character, or be used to point out that a character does not act that way in canon, what are you doing, goddamnit.
Open Character: A pre-made character in a group who is currently not being played by any member of the group.
Open Starter: A starter that any character is allowed to reply to.
Original RP: A roleplay in which the plot and characters come from the admins’ and players’ creations rather than another source.
OTP: One true pairing. The ship that you love more than all the other ships. Except that most people have at least twelve OTPs, so...
OT3: One true threesome. Like an OTP, except there are three people.
Para: Relatively longer posts, consisting of full-bodied paragraphs or multiple paragraphs.
Playby: Another word for Faceclaim. Used more outside of Tumblr. See the couch vs. sofa debate.
Plot Bunny: A story that you would like to play out or see others play out through roleplay.
Plot Drop: A significant detail or event of the overarching story in a group RP that causes some change to the lives of the characters.
Powerplaying: Controlling another player’s character without their permission.
Private: In indie RP, a blog that only interacts with mutuals.
Promo: A post used to advertise a roleplay group or account.
PSD: Photoshop Data file. A type of file that’s designed to be edited on Photoshop or other image editing programs. It comes with the image separated into layers, so that different parts of the image, such as a background, a border, or text, can be edited separately.
Revamped: Extreme Makeover, Roleplay Edition.
RP: Roleplay.
RPA: Roleplay Advice. Like roleplay help, except, I dunno, maybe fewer resources, more questions answered? This one’s falling into disuse a bit. Oh, also Roleplay Assistant.
RPC: Roleplay Community. The group of us weirdos here who roleplay instead of just posting funny text posts and photographs of flowers like normal people. Alternatively, Roleplay Critic, a blog that reviews roleplays.
RPCHA: Um, Roleplay Critic/Helper/Advice. Seems a little over the top, but all right.
RPCW: Roleplay Critic Writer, I guess? I think. Same as roleplay critic. Think it’s used to differentiate from Roleplay Community.
RPG: Roleplay group. A group. That roleplays. Also can mean roleplaying game, or rocket-propelled grenade.
RPH: Roleplay Help. A blog that offers resources and answers questions to help people with roleplaying.
RPO: Roleplay Opinions. A blog that reviews roleplays. It doesn’t count as RPO if you just have opinions; you need to share them with the class.
RPT: Roleplay Talk. A blog that talks about roleplays and the roleplay community.
RPWCTOHA: This doesn’t stand for anything yet, but it’s only a matter of time.
Sample Para: A few paragraphs of your writing you include as an example as your work when you apply for a roleplay group. Do not just copy and paste a passage from Edgar Allen Poe’s “The Cask of Amontillado.” The admins will probably notice.
Secrets RP: A roleplay in which every character has a secret. These secrets are all listed together on a page in the RP, but it’s not revealed which character has which secret; that’s up to the other characters to figure out on their own through interactions.
Selective: For independent RP, when the mun does not roleplay indiscriminately with every blog or character that offers, but rather picks and chooses partners based on personal preference or certain criteria.
Self-insert: A character who is a fictionalized version of the mun/author, with little to no change from their actual self. If they die in the game, they die in real life.
Self-para: When your character wanders away from the group for a bit to engage in their own sidequest or navel-gazing. Good times.
Semi-appless RP: A roleplay that sits on an ever-sliding scale, requiring more detail in an application than an appless RP, but less than a bio RP.
Semi-hiatus: Like a hiatus, except that you might still show up to the blog on occasion and do a little bit of activity. When your real life is busy, but you’re just that determined to roleplay.
Semi-selective: For independent RP, a blog that’s not quite as selective as a selective blog, but still maintains the right to refuse service to customers should they so choose.
Semi-truck: A truck that’s not as much truck as a regular truck.
Shipping: Holding up hand-puppet versions of two characters and forcing them to make out.
Shoutout: A brief advertisement for a roleplay group (or occasionally other blogs) that can be submitted to the ask box of a help blog.
Skeleton RP: A roleplay in which some details are given for the roles being offered by the group, but the applicant fills in the rest, usually writing the body of the character bio. Alternatively, a roleplay in which every character is literally a skeleton.
Smut: Sex. Doing the do. The horizontal tango. Bumping uglies. Woohooing. Written out in all of its gory detail. Not worth going to jail for, so for the love of all that is holy, don’t do it if you’re under 18.
Starboarding: Shipping a one-sided ship. When you want one character to be in love with another, but don’t necessarily want the feelings to be returned. The most relatable type of ship, honestly. More people should RP it.
Starter: The first post in a thread, one that is used to kick off a scene in roleplaying. Usually, especially in a group, anyone is allowed to reply and start a thread from that point.
Starter Call: A post that people like or reblog in order to request a starter from the person who posted it.
Supernatural RP: A roleplay consisting of paranormal elements such as magical creatures, witchcraft, etc. Not a roleplay about the TV show Supernatural, although I guess such a roleplay would use this tag too. This is a problem the showrunners should have foreseen.
Taken Character: A character in a roleplay group who is currently being played by a group member.
Task: In a group, a (usually optional) prompt or project that can be used for character development.
Thread: The series of posts and replies to said post that make up a scene between characters in a roleplay.
Time Skip: Usually indicated by a line break, this is when a thread moves from one scene to another without covering the time in between.
Town RP: A roleplay in which the plot takes place in a single town as its primary or only setting. Like a city RP, but the buildings are shorter.
Trigger: Something that makes a user anxious, panicky, or otherwise very upset when they see it on their dashboard without warning. Tag these. No, I don’t care if it doesn’t fit your tagging aesthetic, just tag them.
Tumblr: You are here.
TW: Trigger Warning. Used in a tag to indicate that the post contains content that may be a trigger. Please format as “#[trigger] tw”. Not “#tw: [trigger]”, and definitely not “#☾-*.:。-❝✿~~ tw ~~✿&&♛”.
Twitter RP: A roleplay that uses Twitter as its primary platform. Don’t ask me how. I can’t even figure out how to use Twitter for its intended purpose.
Urban RP: A roleplay focused primarily on PoC (person of color) characters in a city setting. Often uses musicians such as hip-hop or rap artists as faceclaims.
UTP: Up to player. An acronym used in skeletons to indicated that part of the bio can be chosen by the applicant.
Verse: Short for universe. A character’s world or timeline.
WID: What I do. A list or page on a help blog that lists what services the blog offers.
X-kit: A browser extension that’s popular within the RPC. It works to make tumblr usable again every time the staff creates a new bug and calls it a feature.

Take a look at this listing of on-line courting recommendation beneath for a number of the foremost Fb fails to keep away from in a brand-new relationship. Vote up the ideas that take advantage of sense, and make sure to tell us what you assume within the remark part.
Friending Too Quickly
The Mistake:
That is the worst.
You simply went in your first date and had an incredible time. You desperately wish to see this particular person once more. And also you’re positive your date feels the identical approach. In spite of everything, you had been speaking and laughing for hours!
The minute your date is over, you whip out your smartphone and attain out to buddy her or him on Fb (or comply with your date on Twitter). It’s the way in which of right now’s social media-dominated world, proper?
Fallacious. It was only one date. Regardless of how magical and rainbow-filled it was for you, perhaps your date was bored out of their thoughts. You don’t know should you’ll ever see this particular person once more. In the event you weren’t already mates on Fb, there’s no purpose to take that step now. Plus, now you’ve simply given your self one thing else to obsess over: “Why hasn’t my buddy request been accepted? Why is it taking so lengthy? Did they even see it?!”
It’s even worse in case your buddy request is accepted, just for there to be no second date. Then you need to determine if and when to unfriend this particular person. Why put your self in that scenario?
In the event you’re not already Fb buddies, friending can wait.
Fb Jealousy
The Mistake:
After a primary date, you begin to marvel should you’re the one potential paramour in your date’s life.
You begin to see images and feedback on Fb in an entire new mild. When photos are posted from an evening when your date mentioned they had been too busy to see you, you begin questioning simply who the opposite individuals in these images are. And why is there somebody who at all times likes your date’s statuses? Positive, they may simply be mates, however why is that this buddy so concerned in your date’s life?
So that you ship them a message on Fb, simply to say hello. However they don’t reply.
So, you textual content them, simply to see in the event that they’ll reply.
However they don’t.
So now you know they’re getting snuggly with this silly, serial status-liker, and also you’re reeling over all of the issues they’re doing collectively that you simply’re not. And after three days of questioning, obsessing, doubting, and obsessing once more over whether or not or not your date is even eager about you, you meet up once more along with your date. You’re making an attempt to play it cool, however you then ask about this particular person on Fb. They provide you a obscure reply, so that you dig deeper. And deeper. And earlier than it, your date confesses it’s a detailed cousin and also you’ve made your self appear like an entire ass.
Now your c hances of a second date are utterly trashed, due to your jealousy from a few Fb likes.
Oops.
Creepily Liking Outdated Fb Pictures
The Mistake:
Jealousy isn’t the one purpose to not scroll via all of your first date’s outdated images, although.
They could be public, however going via them after which liking a scorching image from 2007 constitutes the primary order of creepiness.
Usually, as a rule, don’t “Like” engaging photos of individuals that you simply discover engaging and ultimately wish to find yourself in some form of relationship with. That’s what all of the creepy “Instalikers” are for. Your relationship with that particular person goes deeper, or at the least it (hopefully) will. Go away compliments for once they gown good for you in actual life.
Not Untagging Outdated Pictures That Make You Look Unhealthy
The Mistake: You’re occurring a primary date, and also you’re able to make impression. So that you dress up. You be sure that your hair seems to be nice. You’re prepared to seek out love! Besides you haven’t cleaned up your tagged images on Fb. What’s the very first thing that everybody does earlier than a primary date? Fb stalking. In the event you don’t clear up the detritus that’s littering your Fb profile, the drunken images and inane feedback that you simply’ve gathered over time are ready proper there on your date to see. Regardless of how nicely you bathe, how intently you shave or how nice you scent/look on that first date, you’re going to be your Fb photos on the finish of the evening. Their favorable reminiscence of you may be fueled largely by the visible representations you could have in your Fb web page. So make them a part of your technique. Nobody desires thus far an individual with a set of dreadful toilet-centered selfies on her Fb web page, or somebody who commented about how the film Transformers modified his life. Untag the drunken images and delete the misspelled rants now, earlier than it’s too late!
And as a normal rule, it might be factor to at all times hold these drunken photos off Fb. Nobody actually desires to see you along with your head sunken into the bathroom.
Going Too Far By way of Standing Replace
The Mistake:
You’ve determined to play it cool and never buddy the lady or man you simply had a wonderful first date with. However you’re nonetheless excited in regards to the date – so excited that you need to share your happiness on Fb.
This error can include posting a standing replace saying that you simply simply met the particular person you’re going to marry. Or chances are you’ll make the basic mistake of adjusting your relationship standing from “single” to “in a relationship.”
You might even announce that now you perceive the true that means of affection.
All of these steps are going approach too far, as a result of it was just one date.
There isn’t a approach {that a} first date equals you being in a relationship or lastly understanding what it means to be in love. And even should you actually really feel that your first date shall be your husband or spouse sometime, it is best to nonetheless hold it to your self, as a result of Fb updates are public! In case your date sees your standing change or replace, there isn’t any approach they’ll wish to see you once more. Preserve it to your self, at the least for now.
Determined Remark Interactions
The Mistake:
It’s possible you’ll wish to get the curiosity of one in all your Fb buddies. Possibly you went on one date after which nothing’s occurred since. Or perhaps you’re simply hoping that they’ll lastly comply with exit with you due to your charmingly flirty interactions.
Both approach, you retain an eye fixed out for standing updates out of your goal after which do your greatest to reel them in. Whether or not the flirting is apparent otherwise you strive for an oh-so-casual remark alongside the traces of “You’re taking part in Name of Obligation: Black Ops II this weekend? That’s so humorous, me too,” these flirtation remark makes an attempt usually are not as witty as you assume they’re.
If this particular person desires to go on a primary date, or proceed any form of a romantic relationship with you, they’ll let .
In any other case, nothing you possibly can say by way of a Fb remark will change their minds. Stick with it and also you’ll simply appear like you’re making an attempt approach too exhausting.
Following every thing your date does on Fb
The Mistake:
Say you’re already Fb mates.
After the date, you write a fast message saying how a lot you loved it. Thus far, so good. However Fb has determined to point out you when your message has been learn, so your date received it.
When there isn’t a direct reply, you start freaking out. You then begin monitoring every thing she or he is doing on Fb till they reply. Sure, it sounds loopy, however many individuals do it (each female and male). Beginning to date somebody you truly like is sort of actually a hunt.
corporations, locations, eating places, and flicks that your date has preferred, you determine to love a number of of the identical issues.
In spite of everything, it exhibits your first date how a lot you could have in widespread! Now when you could have a second date, you’ll have a lot of issues to speak about.
After all, what’s truly going to occur is that they’ll see you liking every thing they’ve preferred, and also you’ll simply get blocked and unfriended, and there’ll by no means be a second date. Ever.
Stalking your date’s household
The Mistake:
I do know that is like .01% of you on the market that might even think about this, and everyone knows you’re not part of that .01%. However let’s fake that you’re anyway, lets?
Say that you simply’ve restrained your self and never ogled each picture or adopted each standing replace or remark. There’s nonetheless one other method to obsess over your first date’s profile. And this isn’t over.
In spite of everything, there are such a lot of different folks that your date is linked to on Fb: mates, household, classmates, and colleagues. You determine to achieve out to a few of them, telling your self that there’s nothing extra pure than connecting with individuals on a social community. I imply, that’s what they’re for, proper?
Besides these are individuals who you don’t have any different connection to in addition to an individual you went out with as soon as. There isn’t a purpose to buddy them now.
Give it some thought this manner: If this had been actual life, would you begin popping up on the grocery retailer to attempt to run into your date’s mother, or ask how his cousin’s job search goes? If the reply is not any (and the reply ought to be no), then don’t do it on Fb. Particularly after one date. They’ll inform your date about your unusual buddy request. And that’s while you get unfriended by your date.
Oversharing about your date on Fb
The Mistake:
You’re out on a primary date and it’s going nice. Higher than any first date you’ve had probably ever. Your pals could be so joyful for you if they may see you proper now. And wouldn’t it’s good to point out that one classmate who ignored you in highschool that you simply’re now dwelling an thrilling life, full of costly eating places and romantic gestures, and so they missed out by not going to promenade with you?
Plus, this manner your mom will see that you simply’re doing positive dwelling by yourself, and you’re assembly individuals, and she or he ought to cease making an attempt to set you up together with her dentist’s child.
To indicate everybody on Fb how fascinating you’re, you determine to submit a number of particulars of your date. What your date was sporting. The place you went. How the film was. You find yourself posting each single second, step-by-step, till it’s like everybody studying your updates was on the date with you.
Hope having fodder on your Fb feed this one time was value it, as a result of there’s little probability your date will wish to see you once more.
Trigger should you did this, you simply did one thing tremendous creepy. Individuals who come on too sturdy are not often those who make it to the second date.
Too A lot Data About Your Ex on Fb
The Mistake:
You’ve gone on a beautiful first date and prevented all the opposite errors listed right here.
Congratulations! Possibly you gained’t die alone.
However WAIT, your Fb profile nonetheless has tons of feedback and updates about your ex.
How the intercourse was. How badly issues ended. How a lot you continue to hate your ex. The truth is, whilst you’re preparing for this thrilling first date, you possibly can’t resist posting one other remark complaining about your former paramor.
Even when your ex was actually a horrible particular person whose means to annihilate love and belief equals that of the Aztec deity Tezcatlipoca, destroyer of worlds, now your potential new relationship is aware of that hook-up particulars, arguments, and every other interactions are truthful recreation on your Fb wall.
So attempt to lower these out altogether and you ought to be able to exit on a date with anybody of your selecting.
Good luck!

Affiliate Program Settlement: Methods to Create Its Phrases and Circumstances
In case you are organising an associates program, you have to to take time to create an associates program settlement for it. Launching a program with out clear guidelines or insurance policies put in place is at all times an enormous mistake. Our very personal Geno Prussakov warns about it in his publish on frequent associates program setup errors.
Associates program’s settlement — generally additionally referred to as its Phrases of Service, Phrases and Circumstances, or Working Settlement — is the contract regulating your online business relationship along with your associates.
With out it, you’d be giving your associates a free cross to market your model, merchandise, or companies in any approach they see match. In spite of everything, any practices that you don’t explicitly prohibit are, implicitly, permitted.
As a service provider, your aim is to forestall and struggle affiliate fraud, not encourage it. An absence of Phrases of Service settlement might be interpreted as an encouragement of unhealthy affiliate conduct. Moreover, it can more than likely discourage good associates from becoming a member of your program, if not to start with, certainly later down the street. What’s worse, it can value you cash and, probably, hurt your model and popularity.
How do you give you a sound associates program settlement and what ought to a complete settlement cowl? For those who had a very good program supervisor steering your internet affiliate marketing program, you wouldn’t be right here. Skilled associates program managers know the significance of guidelines and insurance policies and don’t have any bother creating and updating them based on the specifics of every program.
Subsequently, one resolution to create a wonderful associates program settlement can be to decide on a reliable and devoted affiliate supervisor and allow them to take over. The opposite resolution is to comply with our step-by-step information under. Earlier than implementing it, don’t forget to review your competitors and modify your technique to the specifics of your online business, business laws, and associates program particulars.
The Full Information to Creating an Affiliate Program Settlement
As talked about above, your associates program settlement will regulate your relationship along with your associates and it’ll lay out every get together’s rights and obligations. As a service provider, you get to place forth the way you need your services or products marketed. Nevertheless, you need to do it in an affiliate-friendly method, and meaning conserving it clear and to the purpose.
Sadly, too many manufacturers mistake being “to the purpose” for “program agreements” which are approach too temporary (or approach too generic) to safeguard them from attainable future abuse. Right here’s one such instance from ShareASale affiliate community:
To be clear, we imagine ShareASale to be one of many indeniable leaders among the many obtainable affiliate monitoring options. Nevertheless, it’s not the community’s function to dictate merchant-specific guidelines. Every affiliate community has its personal working guidelines for associates to comply with throughout the community however particular person program guidelines and insurance policies needs to be outlined in particular person program agreements.
In what follows, we are going to focus on what your program’s phrases of service ought to cowl and the way it is best to strategy it. Take your time on every part, search for examples, and don’t hesitate to ask for our assist when you want it.
For those who haven’t but grabbed a duplicate of Geno’s Affiliate Program Administration: An Hour a Day, now can be a very good time to do it. In addition to offering helpful recommendation on the subject, it additionally features a pattern associates program settlement that you would be able to simply modify to suit your enterprise and program.
Here’s what your program settlement ought to cowl and what it is best to take note of:
I. Foreword
It’s mainly the introduction to your settlement. In it, you guarantee your associates of your good intentions, clarify the aim of the settlement, and invite them to contact you if they’ve any query. Preserve it brief and to the purpose, now not than 200-250 phrases.
II. Phrases and Definitions
In case you are apprehensive that your associates could not absolutely or clearly perceive among the phrases you employ in your settlement, then don’t hesitate to supply the corresponding definitions.
Many main retailers use such lists, and you don’t have anything to lose by doing it. Once more, hold it brief and to the purpose. Your aim is to keep away from misunderstandings, not put collectively an countless glossary.
III. Abstract
The unlucky actuality is that associates don’t at all times learn program insurance policies, particularly when these are lengthy and full of generalities. To encourage studying and minimal compliance, you’ll need to present them with a abstract. Put collectively an inventory of as much as ten sentences explaining:
The kind of content material you don’t want related along with your services or products The kind of associates you’ll not settle for into your program The requirement that associates adjust to FTC’s Endorsement Pointers Behaviors and practices you condemn and penalize, and many others.
This manner, publishers who don’t match the profile will hopefully not apply to affix your program. These genuinely concerned about selling your services or products and who’re afraid of disloyal competitors will possible hold studying.
Earlier than you progress on to the precise affiliate settlement, ensure you emphasize its binding nature. For instance, in his pattern settlement, Geno features a warning to publishers that by making use of to affix the associates program or taking part in it, they’re confirming that they’ve learn the settlement and the corporate’s phrases and circumstances and they comply with be sure by them. FatCow adhered to this observe as effectively.
IV. Enrollment
On this part, you clarify the enrollment/acceptance course of and, particularly, the kind of publishers that ought to not even hassle making use of. Relying on the specifics of your program, you possibly can hold it easy, like Overstock on CJ, or you will get into extra particulars, like Walmart on Rakuten.
Like most retailers, Overstock bans using supplies containing specific intercourse, violence, discrimination, or selling unlawful actions.
Walmart will get into extra particulars and likewise discourages publishers who promote “ponzi”, pyramid, related funding schemes, tobacco, alcohol, or playing. They don’t approve of blogging-only platforms, non-US publishers, incentive and loyalty associates, and anybody keen to share their referral charges with an internet site or group in violation of their standards for publishers.
You recognize your online business higher than anybody, and it’s as much as you to resolve what kind of associations would negatively influence your model. That is the part the place you get to rule out such associations and inform potential associates what to anticipate.
V. Affiliate Disclosure
As you could already know, the Federal Commerce Fee requires anybody endorsing a model, program, or service in alternate for or because of receiving sure advantages to reveal their receiving of the advantages. Associates clearly fall into this class, and also you need yours to adjust to the legislation.
Subsequently, it is smart to incorporate a clause in your settlement requesting that they disclose their standing as your associates. Geno strongly recommends it in his e-book, and most retailers have such clauses of their affiliate agreements.
You’ll be able to comply with the lead of Amazon, and impose a sure phrase on your associates to make use of for disclosure functions. An alternative choice is to create a devoted graphic picture and ask your associates to show it on their web site (see hyperlink to Overstock settlement above).
Nevertheless, since your associates could promote different retailers as effectively, imposing sure phrases or graphic pictures may work towards you. I see no purpose why you wouldn’t depart the wording of the disclosure to them and simply make it clear that:
You advise and request compliance with the FTC tips, a minimum of so far as your services or products are involved. You reserve the correct to terminate your relationship with associates who don’t comply.
VI. Trademark Coverage
As a service provider, you need to deter trademark violators from becoming a member of your associates program. They might be stealing visitors from you, leads and gross sales out of your associates, and, probably, negatively influence your picture and popularity.
To stop that, it’s worthwhile to clearly regulate potential makes use of of your trademark. You’ll need to prohibit any use of your trademark and variations and misspellings of it in paid search campaigns, domains, hidden textual content, supply codes, meta tags, consumer names, app names, and many others.
Any font, colour, and emblem modifications needs to be prohibited as effectively. Your associates ought to solely be allowed to make use of your trademark for expressly approved functions, so long as their use of it doesn’t hurt your pursuits and popularity. Every other makes use of needs to be topic to your prior approval.
For those who verify the affiliate agreements given as examples above (see screenshot from Amazon under), you will notice that every one of them cowl trademark use, some in a couple of part of their settlement. It’s higher to repeat your self than to depart room for interpretation and fraud.
VII. Insurance policies on Promotional Strategies
Until you make clear what advertising and marketing practices you settle for or reject, you’re giving your associates a free cross to do no matter they need with the intention to generate gross sales, leads, or another sorts of actions you reward.
They may present deceptive or false info, promise rewards and incentives your prospects won’t ever see, use a few of their fee to generate false leads, develop cell apps that drive sure in-app actions, and extra.
You need to discourage such kind of practices as a result of they might value your cash, your popularity, and your associates. How do you do it? Create guidelines. They need to cowl a minimum of the next elements:
1. Content material
Make it necessary on your associates to supply readers with clear and correct details about your services or products. Exaggerations result in disappointment and gross sales reversals and hurt your model.
2. Movies
When you have associates who do unboxing or how-to tutorials, create particular guidelines for them, to ensure their advertising and marketing technique aligns with yours and advantages your online business in the long term. You’ll be able to even ask to pre-approve any movies they report or create earlier than they publish it on-line.
three. Coupons and Reductions
It’s as much as you when you settle for coupon associates or not (open or closed coupons coverage), however make it clear in your associates program settlement. FatCow, for instance, doesn’t enable associates to publish refunds, reductions, or credit on their services or products with out their prior written consent given on a case-to-case foundation. Their associates could solely use the coupons and reductions made obtainable to them by means of this system, and any modifications to them are clearly prohibited.
four. Incentivized Site visitors
For those who’re a retail-oriented service provider, you don’t want to ban loyalty associates from becoming a member of your program. Nevertheless, when operating a lead-generating associates program, it’s worthwhile to defend your self and your good associates from rip-off artists who could recruit and pay web customers to order samples, full surveys, or fill in varieties. They could drive many results in your web site, however these leads shall be of poor high quality, will value you a fortune, and can virtually by no means convert into paying prospects.
5. Cellular Apps
Generally, associates use in-app advertisements to drive gross sales and leads. You could need to comply with Amazon’s lead (see their Cellular Utility Coverage) in regulating such practices and approving apps individually, to forestall pressured clicks, copies of your personal app, and different makes an attempt to deceive potential prospects.
6. Paid Search Campaigns
It’s as much as you when you enable paid search campaigns. Some retailers do, some don’t. For those who do, you need to be sure that your associates don’t bid in your trademark, service marks, product names, and another phrases that will enable them to steal visitors and shoppers out of your web site. The least you are able to do is present them with an inventory of key phrases to bid on or to keep away from.
Usually, it is best to present your associates with a beneficiant stock of affiliate creatives or the instruments to generate their advertising and marketing supplies themselves, prohibit any modifications to these supplies, and forbid the creation and use of another supplies with out your prior consent.
7. Different Behaviors
We’ve already lined lots of the practices and behaviors your associates program settlement ought to prohibit. Nevertheless, these are severe points that you simply’ll need to record individually on your associates to have the ability to simply seek advice from them.
Take the time to make an exhaustive record of what you don’t want and permit your associates to do and embody it in your associates program settlement. It’ll hopefully hold fraudsters at bay and earn you the belief and consideration of some good associates.
Walmart has a posh coverage on this sense, addressing not solely normal prohibitions but in addition digital communication and trademark prohibitions. Reviewing their coverage might be a terrific start line so that you can construct yours. Right here’s additionally an instance of how Dinnerly‘s affiliate promotional strategies’ insurance policies are mirrored on Awin (on the time of this publication):
VIII. Affiliate Rights and Obligations
Some retailers will solely cowl affiliate obligations. Others could have totally different clauses that would very effectively match beneath this part. The underside line is that this:
Your associates have the correct to receives a commission for any qualifying actions they ship to you following your program settlement. Relying on the way you run your internet affiliate marketing program, they could have entry to an affiliate account, creatives, and varied instruments and supplies they could use to advertise your services and products. They’ve the duty to conform along with your associates program settlement and another relevant legal guidelines and laws (copyright, mental property, and many others.).
IX. Service provider Rights and Obligations
As a service provider, it’s your proper to:
Monitor how your associates promote your services or products Modify your program settlement when and as you contemplate it applicable Take measures towards associates who don’t adjust to the settlement (You’ll be able to terminate the settlement instantly and, possibly, retain any commissions they could have generated by means of fraudulent actions. We don’t advise resorting to fee cuts to struggle settlement violations however the closing choice is yours.)
Assuming there are not any settlement breaches or fraudulent actions so that you can fear about, you’ve got the duty to pay your associates based on the agreed cost phrases.
X. Relationship of the Events
Some retailers discover it essential to make clear their relationship with their associates. I don’t see any purpose to not embody such a bit in your associates program. You might be mainly clarifying that your associates are unbiased contractors and prohibit them from mentioning or implying different sorts of relationship, be it three way partnership, partnership, illustration, franchise, employment, and many others.
XI. Warranties and Representations
Your associates program settlement ought to stipulate that its coming into impact implies that your associates signify and warrant to you that:
They’ve reviewed, understood, and accepted the settlement as binding Their acceptance of the settlement and participation within the associates program doesn’t violate any violate any legal guidelines, guidelines, laws, court docket orders, decrees, by-laws or incorporation certificates, agreements or devices relevant to them or binding upon their properties or property. They’re the one and unique house owners of their trademark and have the authority to grant you employ of their trademark (if relevant) – See the Indemnification part under. Top Use Cases When to Use 301 Redirects & How to Properly Do It

Warning: Playing with URLs and 301 redirects on a large scale can have a massive negative impact on your site if done improperly. If you don’t feel 100% confident doing things yourself, it’s a better idea to get in touch with an SEO specialist that can approve and help with the modifications.
What Is a 301 Redirect?
Most people know what a 301 redirect is, but just in case, I feel the need to define it.
301 is an HTTP status code. Status codes indicate whether an HTTP request was successful or not or; in other words if a web page works or not. Basically, a 301 redirect is a permanent redirect from one URL to another. There are multiple status codes, some of which you already probably know. 500, for example, indicates a server error, while 404 indicates that a resource doesn’t exist. Status code 200 is the most common one but you probably see it less, because it indicates a successful request (you end up seeing the page instead of any status code, which is good).
Source gomage.com
The 301 status code states that a web resource can be found at a new address. So, for example, if I have page A and I 301 redirect it to page B, if you access page A the browser will automatically take you to page B.
In other words, it’s like moving a page from one address to another.
Why Are 301’s So Important for SEO?
Search engines try to provide the best experience for their users, so they don’t want to display bad resources in their search results. A missing resource is definitely a bad experience for users.
Due to the way they work, it is inevitable that search engines don’t display some 404 pages in their results. The crawler finds new resources and brings them to the indexer. The indexer then indexes the page and it is only after that the ranking process begins.
Once a page was indexed, it gets displayed if you search for it. Also, from time to time, it gets recrawled. Google does this in order to discover if any modifications have been made to the page. However, a page can suddenly vanish. Maybe the owner deleted it, or maybe something bad happened to the server.
During that period between two crawls, a page can be indexed and ranked by Google, leading users to 404 pages.
At some point, Google will figure this out and it will not be pleased. It will eventually remove the 404 pages from the index, but if this issue keeps repeating, it might even view a website as less reliable, because it is wasting crawl budget.
But 404 pages don’t only affect Search Engines. It affects you! Your website, your business and your revenue. If users search for your pages, if they click on your links and these links return a 404, you’ve just lost a client.
Not only that but if you’re the one creating the 404 pages (by accidentally deleting content, for example) you’re also going to lose a lot of link equity if those pages have backlinks pointing to them. 301 redirects can help channel that equity to a new location so that your domain doesn’t lose authority.
Of course, it is inevitable that at some point a site will have 404 errors. In fact, I can create a 404 error right now by linking to a nonexistent page. But that would be bad for me as well. I don’t want to link to 404 pages, because Google will then think that I lead users and search engines to missing resources.
You see, it’s not actually the broken page that matters, but the link that’s pointing to it. As I previously said in another article (and I’m going to quote myself now):
A page doesn’t really exist until another page links to it.
You can find if your site has 301 error issues by using the CognitiveSEO ToolSet. Use the Site Explorer and search for Broken Pages to find backlinks from other sites to your site that return a 404:
Use the Site Audit to find 404 issues within your own site. You can also view your entire set of 301s and check if they’re all good or pointing where they should.
So, if you find that your site has other sites pointing to 404 pages, you can try to contact the owner to replace the URL or simply do a redirect yourself.
The 301 redirect’s main purpose: to minimize the existence or appearance of missing or broken resources.
When to Use 301 Redirects?
Now we could say that Google and other search engines love 301s, but that doesn’t mean that you should start redirecting everything. 301 redirects should be used with caution and only in specific and necessary cases, as messing things up can have devastating outcomes.
If you don’t find yourself in one of these situations, then you probably shouldn’t be playing with 301s.
1. Right After You Create Your Website
When you launch a new website, one of the first things you should do is redirect all the domains to the preferred version.
There are 4 main versions of your site:
http://yoursite.com
http://www.yoursite.com
https://yoursite.com
https://www.yoursite.com
Naturally, in 2019 you’ll want to have SSL. This will probably be default sometime in the future, who knows. In general, it doesn’t matter if your site is www or non-www but you can go with www just to make sure (helpful for something related to CDNs, images and cookies if your site gets bigger in the future).
In any case, let’s get back on track and state where 301s come in:
Every other version of your site should 301 redirect to the preferred version and it’s also preferable if the redirect is a 1 step process.
So if my preferred version is https://www.yoursite.com, I don’t want http://yoursite.com to redirect first to https://yoursite.com and then to https://www.yoursite.com, but directly to https://www.yoursite.com.
You can easily check this by running a Site Audit in the CognitiveSEO Toolset and implement the changes in Seach Console:
2. When You Move to HTTPS
Many websites still run on HTTP connections. This is risky, especially when dealing with personal data. For example, even a small contact form on your contact page could be susceptible to GDPR infringement if it’s not secure since the data could be intercepted by third parties.
If you’re planning to move your entire site from HTTP to HTTPS, you have to be very careful. I repeat: You have to be very careful.
This can have devastating negative effects if the transition isn’t done properly. By properly, I mean setting up 301 redirects from each HTTP URL to its HTTPS counterpart.
You can check this step by step HTTP to HTTPS migration guide if you want to make sure you get everything right.
3. When You Have Broken Pages
Broken pages and links are actually 404 pages. You should be constantly looking for these types of errors as they can appear at any time, for example, when someone misspells a URL.
Any link pointing from outside your site towards your site that reaches a 404 error should be dealt with. You can find broken links and pages using the CognitiveSEO Toolset, as mentioned above in the article.
The best scenario is to contact the owner and ask them to fix the link. However, this is time-consuming, sometimes inefficient and might even lead to them replacing the link altogether.
You can redirect those 404 links (broken pages) to the most relevant page on your site to fix these issues.
When it comes to internal broken links (links that are broken within your site), ideally you should change those instead of 301 redirecting them. 301 redirects pass link equity, but some of it gets lost during the process, so a direct link is always better.
4. When Deleting Content or Content Is No Longer Useful
Take this with a very very small grain of salt. Sometimes, you might actually want the resource to return a 404. For example, if someone links to some weird URL on your site and it looks like spam, it’s probably not a good idea to redirect that negative equity to one of your good pages.
Now, this is debatable. Some would say that you should always redirect any broken link or resource. Everyone will agree that the best type of redirect is to the most relevant resource possible.
So, for example, if I have a blog about animals and I delete a page about dogs, I don’t just want to redirect it to the Homepage and definitely not want to redirect it to a page about cats.
The proper 301 redirect should always be towards the most relevant page on the website.
But what do you do in case you don’t have any relevant page? Well… the most commonly recommended thing is to redirect to the homepage. However, this comes with a problem:
By displaying a 404, you give the users an answer and also have the chance to show a call to action or at least make them laugh (via design). By redirecting to the homepage, you simply send the users somewhere they didn’t expect to land.
If the user’s intent was to read an article about a topic, he or she will be even more confused by ending up on the homepage of a site than landing on a 404.
So here, a 404 can be a lot more helpful, especially if you add a nice design to it and also a call to action. Here are a couple of examples, maybe even better than in the one above if you have a big website with a lot of 404s:
Sorry, the information you were looking for isn’t here (can be personalized) but:
You can search for other topics here: (followed by a search bar)
Here are some similar topics: (followed by some links)
It’s not such a big deal if your website has 404 errors here and there, but if it’s on a large scale or if they are pages that quality sites link to, then you should redirect them to the most relevant resource.
Also, keep this in mind:
It’s better to return a full 404 than a soft 404, which is a 404 looking page that hides a 200 status code under it.
Soft 404’s sound like a bit of trickery to Google. On one hand you’re telling the user that the resource they’re looking for isn’t there, but on the other hand, you’re telling Google that the page is OK.
5. Changing URLs for Any Reason
In SEO, it’s usually a good idea to never change the URL of a specific resource.
However, if you do need to change it, then you should always 301 redirect the old URL to the new URL. Popular CMS, such as WordPress, even do this automatically. If you change the URL, you can notice that the old one redirects to the new one.
When you change a URL, Google will have to first crawl it, then index it and rank it all over again. This can take time. Setting up a 301 redirect will tell Google that the page isn’t an entirely new page, but actually, an old one that has just moved its address.
For example, you might have a very old website with some very old pages that used to have underlines in the URLs. As you know, dashes are now preferred, so you might want to change https://www.yoursite.com/this_page/ to https://www.yoursite.com/this-page/.
If you do it, make sure to 301 redirect the old page to the new one.
6. When You Redesign / Overhaul a Website
Redesigning or improving a website on a large scale can often end up in deleted pages, moved or rewritten content.
If you’ve removed any pages during a redesign process, make sure you redirect those pages accordingly to the most relevant resource on your site.
Again, big changes on websites can always have negative SEO impacts if certain aspects are not taken into account.
If you’re in the process of redesigning your website or are thinking of doing it in the future, you can always check our website SEO redesign checklist.
7. Fixing Duplicate Content Issues & Dynamic URL Issues
If you have a very big website, especially in the eCommerce field, you’re constantly dealing with duplicate content or dynamic URL issues.
For example, if you have big a set of products both in red and yellow, the use of dynamic URLs might create duplicate or at least very similar content when filtering for either red or yellow.
301 redirects can help with this in certain scenarios, but you can also use Canonical Tags. You can read more details about canonical tags towards the end of this article.
You can check if you have duplicate or similar content issues using the CognitiveSEO Site Audit:
Recommendations regarding this issue can vary from one scenario to another. Due to the fact that this usually also happens on a large scale, with thousands of pages, it’s always better to contact an SEO specialist before making any modifications.
However, if you do have multiple URLs that are almost identical, you can redirect them accordingly to a final version. This can potentially strengthen that page, as it won’t be cannibalized and the link equity from different links, if any, will be sent to that page.
8. Rebranding & Merging Domains
Are you planning to change your domain? Do you have two brand websites and would like to combine them? Then 301 is the way to go.
But don’t make the mistake to just set a simple 301 from one domain to another. Each and every URL must redirect to its new location on the new domain.
Ok, now that we’ve covered the most common and important cases when you should take advantage of 301 redirects, let’s get into how exactly you can set up correct redirects from one URL to another and even from one domain to another.
How to Set Up 301 Redirects
Setting up 301 redirects is actually simple. That is… if you don’t have to set thousands. You can set them up in different ways:
Via Plugins: Setting up redirects via CMS plugins is pretty easy. You can use any redirection plugin / extension / module. Usually, there are two fields, the one with the current URL and the one with the desired URL.
Via .htaccess: Setting up 301 redirects can be done via the .htaccess file on your server.
If you want to redirect from one URL to another, it’s pretty simple. You just have to add:
Redirect 301 /old-URL/ /new-URL/
You can read more on .htaccess redirections here.
Via cPanel: A cPanel redirect can also be used and it’s pretty easy to do on a small scale.
Via Domain Level Redirect: Last but not least, you can set up a domain level redirect from your domain registrar dashboard. This is a good way to redirect especially if you’re merging from one domain to another.
Set two redirect records, one with the host www and another with the host @ each pointing to the new domain and make sure to add a backslash at the end of the domain. S,o if I were to redirect cognitiveseo.com to brandmentions.com, it would look something like this.
Type > Host > Value
Redirect Record > www > brandmentions.com/ Redirect Record > @ > brandmentions.com/
This will redirect all pages to their new counterparts (for example, it will not only redirect cognitiveseo.com to brandmentions.com but also cognitiveseo.com/page to brandmentions.com/page).
How Long Should You Keep a 301 Redirect?
This is actually the question which led us to writing this article:
“When you are moving site or content and make proper 301 redirects (one to one), what is the safe period after which we can consider all possible page juice is passed to new pages and Google deleted it from its index and it’s safe to permanently kill redirects?”
The answer is pretty straight forward:
It is never safe to remove 301 redirects. The best case scenario is keeping them running FOREVER.
Sounds like an evil request, but you’ve heard me right! You have to keep doing it for eternity. Why? Well, really, it depends. But it’s just safer if you never remove the redirects.
If it’s just a page with no backlinks and no traffic, you can simply check if the new URL has been indexed and the old URL has been deindexed. You could then remove the 301, as it’s no longer needed. However, if your page does have backlinks (even internal links within your own site), then removing the 301 will result in a 404.
It’s always better to keep them, as long as they don’t create any technical issues with the server, which they shouldn’t.
How NOT to Set 301 Redirects
There are also some things that you must make sure you don’t do when working with redirects!
The worst thing you can do when working with 301 redirects is to create a redirect loop.
Or, you might have seen it before in the form of “This website redirected too many times”. A redirect loop is when Page A redirects to Page B and then Page B redirects back to Page A. I hope you can understand why Google would get frustrated.
It’s also recommended not to do multiple or chain redirects. You can have 2 or 3 if needed, but Google won’t usually follow more than 4 redirects.
Google tries to crawl the web as efficiently as possible. Each site gets a certain ‘crawl budget’. If you waste that on abandoned chain redirects or redirect loops, you can end up having less for other important pages.
So, instead of having:
Page A > 301 > Page B > 301 > Page C > 301 > Page D
You should have:
Page A > 301 > Page D Page B > 301 > Page D Page C > 301 > Page D
Also, when you’re trying to fix broken pages, don’t just redirect everything to the homepage. It won’t necessarily do any harm, but you can maximize effectiveness if you redirect each page to something relevant.
301 Redirect vs. Canonical Tag
People often get confused by canonical tags and 301 redirects because they are sort of similar. So, which one should you use and when?
The canonical tag’s purpose is to tell search engines which page to display without redirecting users to that page.
So, by using a rel=”canonical” tag, Google will see Page A but it will display Page B in the search engines, but when users access Page A (via the site navigation menu or direct URL) they will still see Page A.
Generally, it is better to use 301 redirects when dealing with missing or old content, but it’s probably a better idea to use canonical tags when dealing with dynamic URLs caused duplicate content.
Going back to the example I previously gave (a big set of products both in red and yellow) using a canonical tag can help you let the users browse the site disturbed while telling the search engines which version of the page to display.
Please note that if your pages have searches for both Yellow and Red color, you should keep both the pages indexed. However, if the users only search for the product and never search for colors, then it’s a better idea not to cannibalize the results.
Please read this article about common canonical tag mistakes if you want to learn more about this topic.
Conclusion
301 redirects can be both very helpful and deadly (if used the wrong way). Make sure you properly 301 redirect when encountering any of the cases mentioned above for the best search engine optimization outcomes.
Important things to remember:
Don’t create redirect loops
Always try to redirect to the most relevant page
Try to fix as many broken pages & links as possible
Sometimes, canonical tags are a better option
Have you ever used 301 redirects to fix SEO issues? How did that go for you or your client? Let us know in the comments section! We’re really curious to find out.

What Is a 301 Redirect?
Most people know what a 301 redirect is, but just in case, I feel the need to define it.
301 is a status code. Status codes indicate whether an HTTP request was successful or not or; in other words, if a web page works or not.
Not only that, but if you’re the one creating the 404 pages (by accidentally deleting content, for example) you’re also going to lose a lot of link equity if those pages have backlinks pointing to them. 301 redirects can help channel that equity to a new location, so that your domain doesn’t lose authority.
Of course, it is inevitable that at some point a site will have 404 errors. In fact, I can create a 404 error right now by linking to an nonexistent page.
You can easily check this by running a Site Audit in the CognitiveSEO Toolset:
2. When You Move to HTTPS
Many websites still run on HTTP connections. This is risky, especially when dealing with personal data. For example, even a small contact form on your contact page could be susceptible to GDPR infringement if it’s not secure, since the data could be intercepted by 3rd parties.
If you’re planning to move from HTTP to HTTPS, you have to be very careful. I repeat: You have to be very careful.
This can have devastating negative effects if the transition isn’t done properly. By properly, I mean setting up 301 redirects from each HTTP URL to its HTTPS conterpart.
However, this is time consuming, sometimes inefficient and might even lead to them replacing the link altogether.
Now this is debatable.
Soft 404’s sound like a bit of a trickery to Google. On one hand you’re telling the user that the resource they’re looking for isn’t there, but on the other hand you’re telling Google that the page is OK.
Setting up a 301 redirect will tell Google that the page isn’t an entirely new page, but actually an old one that has just moved its address.
For example, you might have a very old website with some very old pages that used to have underlines in the URLs. As you know, dashes are now preferred, so you might want to change https://www.yoursite.com/this_page/ to https://www.yoursite.com/this-page/.
If you do it, make sure to 301 redirect from the old page to the new one.
Going back to the example I previously gave (a big set of products both in red and yellow) using a canonical tag can help you let the users browse the site disturbed, while telling the search engines which version of the page to display.
Make sure you properly 301 redirect when encountering any of the cases mentioned above for the best SEO outcomes.
Important things to remember:
Don’t create redirect loops
Always try to redirect to the most relevant page
Try to fix as many broken pages & links as possible
Sometimes, canonical tags are a better option

Search Marketing Made Easy With Tips That Help You Succeed
Failing to use the right Search Marketing techniques will mean that very few visitors will ever find your site. Use the tips in this article to start generating more traffic to your website.
Search Engine
To make sure you have a place in search engine results you should have a large amount of keywords, even those that are misspelled, in the area of your site where you put meta tags. The content of your meta tags is what helps the search engine categorize your website and determine how to describe your link to searchers. To demonstrate this, let’s say your site theme is about knives. You could include a variety of related keywords, including: “knives,” “nives”, and “knifes”, along with any other reasonable options you may want to consider.
Be patient for results from Local SEO In Lynchburg VA. Large changes in traffic volume will not immediately happen. On the contrary, it can take several months if your site is fairly new. You need to build your good name, and that takes time.
To boost your PageRank, you have to attract and maintain the visitors on your page. There is evidence that the more time a person is on a site the higher ranked that site will be. There is more and more evidence suggesting that how long a visitor stays on a site affects their PageRank, according to Quantcast scores. When customers can chat, discuss, and interact with each other on your site, they are more likely to stay longer.
Using a product feed will boost your online presence and get more people to your site. These feeds will list details about your products and services, such as images, prices and descriptions. Send these to search engines, as well as sites that compare prices. A feed reader can also help customers subscribe to a feed.
Promote your expertise in your particular field, so your customers are aware of your level of knowledge. It is an effective marketing strategy that can have great rewards. You can do this by starting a website focused around your niche. You can additionally implement search engine optimization strategies to attract as much targeted traffic as possible. Make sure you know exactly what customers are looking for, don’t just guess.
Authoring a blog and commenting on other blogs related to your website’s niche can be a good SEO Marketing technique. Blogs are a great way to move up the search rankings as they are constantly updated: this makes them easy for search engine algorithms to find and rank. Search engines will respond to backlinks by bringing more visitors.
Don’t try using Flash when you’re using a website for Local SEO purposes. Spiders can not read it and it is slow to load. To optimize your website for search engines, you have to have information that’s searchable by them.
Site Map
Including a site map on your website is key to any search engine optimization process. Spiders use the site map to find out information regarding your website. A huge site might require more than a single map. As a guideline, try to stay under 100 links for each map.
Research information about keywords first so you know what to write. You should focus on the correct keywords during website design and you should incorporate your keywords into your titles. Your keywords research will help you ascertain what search words and phrases are being entered by your prospective customers as they look online for products or services like yours. Raise your SEO Services ranking by focusing on these subjects throughout your webpage.
While proofreading is often overlooked, it’s vital to the quality and respectability of all websites. Make sure that all of the information on your site is clearly laid out for your visitors and for search engines. When you have mistakes in your content, search engines will skip over you.
Keep away from spam filters and never use duplicate content. Know that you are possibly using duplicated content without knowing it. Repeating the same product description can save time, but search engines see it as spamming.
Look into using online ads. Do it yourself search engine optimization may sometimes not be enough to see a significant increase in rankings. Advertisers such as these work to increase the number of people visiting your page. Using products such as those from Google can make a huge difference.
Focus on becoming an expert in just one or two aspects of Lynchburg SEO Services right away. New techniques are cropping up every day, but mastering even one will dramatically improve the success of your content.
Use language meta tags if your site is not in English. They can help improve your rankings since they will be found in those foreign language searches.
Try optimizing one page with one specific keyword phrase. Trying to stuff a page with too many keywords will make your content hard to read. It’s better to choose a single topic and provide the best content possible. This will make it more likely that visitors return the site. If your audience is visiting your site often you’ll find that the reward is even greater than that which you gain from search engine optimization!
When buying a new domain, see if your host can redirect your old landing page to the new one. That way, users will be able to use old bookmarks to reach your new site. You can also get redirect pages up on the older domain and that can lead the users there to your new site.
Make sure to configure your hosting company’s server so that it’s case-sensitive for URLS. Having lower case letters in your URL may decrease the chance that visitors end up on your site.
By commenting on relative blogs, you will get increased traffic to your site. Many blog owners will let you drop your link if you leave a comment of substance. If you link your site to irrelevant topics or leave useless comments, you will likely have this privilege revoked. If you know your subject well, it will be easy for you to leave acceptable comments, along with your link, on many blogs.
Internet Businesses
Nobody wants to see his or her own business failing. Many businesses do end up failing, including Internet businesses. However, many Internet businesses actually do succeed because of the vast number of strategies that online businesses can utilize.
