@doyoucopypod released episode 4 this week and yikes on bikes there is a LOT happening!! The Dead Zone continues to be baffling and terrifying and the fear in Addison and Liam's voices broke me. I'm so excited to see what comes next!

There was new Technomancy Project this week and I'm still NOT OKAY FROM IT. I thought it'd be a fun zombie episode but noooo I end up crying at my desk because I love Jason so much. My theory doc has been revisited and new info has been updated. I fucking love the Technomancy Project!!!!!!!!!!!

Public release for @malevolentcast episode 34 was last Monday and it's one of the best episodes of Malevolent yet. It was stressful and terrifying and so well executed that it will be spinning in my brain forever

"yeah ram exists because of a programming error basically. also last thursday-ism is real." why does it matter that ram tells tludia the world history if the history is fake??? why did tludia's curse flare up BEFORE hinsher got unthawed if hinsher being alive is the catalyst for it?

i GUESS it fits in with the worldbuilding of restrictions and rules as avenues of power. all power comes at a cost in this world and i think it's GREAT worldbuilding and powerscaling but using it to handwave plot beats kinda blows

on that note the worldbuilding around demons is kind of. yikes. i get they're going for a "forever war" thing but. really had to specify that they're all black huh. is this why tek never shows them onscreen? is hwandaeng embarrassed about this now.

it's not as bad as it could be what with the "both sides suck" approach but damn daljan really fucked up by essentially demoting tink for being anti-racist and not explaining that he'd like tink to teach new knights to be less racist. bcuz all tink is gonna walk away with is "knights are racist". daljan. my man.

i keep talking abt tink (love that bitch!) but i do truly love how fucked the concept of Honor got with him. and ruthless ram is in the later part of the comic. tludia criticizes him by asking if tink had any choice. ram says it was his honor and choice to die. but. tink was blackmailed into working for the malto in the first place. he didnt ever have a choice. choosing to die was his only choice. ESPECIALLY HOW WITH TLUDIA'S BACKSTORY WITH KANDENTIA!! it's paralleled with how kandentia criticzes tludia for stealing, but tludia says it's a priviledge to be so rightous!! not everyone can afford honor! are you gonna tell a starving child to stop stealing because its illegal? are you gonna tell a man being blackmailed into criminality to choose the "right" thing?

honor as a priviledge is a fantastic concept to explore

also on that note. ram. looking back on it he Never really gives people a choice. like obviously, his "negotiation" with the fake mushia. once the peaceful option fails, he just starts threatening her. oh, and how his cowardice is repeated - the people he's leaving aren't ever given a choice either, are they? and from the beginning of the plot, too. what choice does tludia have but to trust him when he's the only one who could possibly cure her fatal curse disease????

and in the end tludia's final actual choice is "life forever or die." like. what choice is that even

at least tludia's desire to keep living no matter what is a long established thing so it makes sense for her to do that

wow the story really has like 2 suicides. first ram and then muitin in the bonus stories. hot diggity

kinda mad hadar's sister plotline didn't really get resolved. where'd she go. i get that hadar's resolution to the plotline is that he gives up on looking for her and starts living for himself, since she never wanted him to find her anyway - but it still stings a little

she probably became a knight. she's not legia's sidekick, is she?? they look a little similar. maybe without the lipstick...

also fucking WILD to have tek things recontextualized

also in tek when zius explains the reason the east and west hate each other so much now realizing he was talking about hadar, tink, and hwashran specifically. i hope hadar shows up in tek at some point. just having the guy who Caused The War, Somewhat there would be hilarious. the smug smirk that launched a thousand ships. (hadar is a riot)

speaking of hinsher!!!! her story is the one that made me sob most (only time i cried at this comic was "gnojes the blacksmith" from the side stories). it's just. auhvrhhr. the human equivalent of hachiko. and at the end of the side story where hinsher steps into the workshop and is greeted by those bearing his name i aurghgfhf

it's really well handled how hinsher reacts to the situation. she's devestated, obviously. that moment when she sees ram and sees he's unchanged and asks him how long it's been but of course he's IMMORTAL but she doesn't know that so she thinks it's been no time at all but it was 500 years i'm. i'm fine

and just like everythinggggg and how she eventually copes by imagining gnojes managed to be happy without her. maybe he found someone else. the conflict of longing and desolation at hearing the name of gnojes continues, but then - he never had any children. he never married. he waited for her.

and how hinsher just. she regrets leaving gnojes. she regrets being trapped. she doesn't regret trying to save strangers. because that is her knight's honor. and she does it again, protecting tludia and nephren in the final arc,,,, don't talk to me

AND THEN THE SIDE STORY SHOWS. GNOJES NEVER GAVE UP LOOKING FOR HER. BUT HE FOUND HAPPINESS AGAIN, TOO. in his work. with the children he adopted. he died of old age surrounded by people he loved, who loved him too. but he never stopped missing her. and she'll never stop grieving him

the tragedy is just fucking DELICIOUS okay

do also love how the side stories show that ram is an unreliable narrator. it's really neat to see characters picked up and fleshed out without his viewpoint. like the fuckin plot twist that it was depression era ram who killed suldin and not tisalle. but ram only heard "suldin was killed by his apprentice" and didn't remember doing it, so he assumed tisalle did it. and then killed tisalle for it. fucked up 👍

what more was i saying

waron is way more fucked up than i thought but zius describes her as "predictably unpredictable" so she's just always been like this. how the fuck did the knights reign her in again. kandentia probably kicked her ass and now she just wants to brawl with zius now that her main target is dead. she's fantastic and i love her. she knows EXACTLY what she wants.

the general theme of self sacrifice and making yourself the villain to help others both with ram's actions and the demon knight backstory and waron's short story on how she hates knights kinda makes me think she also does this to establish that not all knights are just? after all, honor is individual, and not all honor will be "good", with waron as a prime example

did she ask nagyunn how he'd kill her just to figure out if he'd be fun to fight

that is. all my thoughts on gilgamesh i can remember at the moment. this post is long and messy but such is customary for me 👍

once again i think gilgamesh is hampered by the early chapters trying to hard to be comedic. once it settles on a tone and as the art improves i started enjoying it way more but with how frontloaded the flashbacks are (even if they pay off in full later!) i definetly wouldn't have been nearly as invested if it weren't for me reading tek first. tek just has a better plot hook with a character with a set goal and a plan to achieve it, whereas the beginning of gilgamesh kinda meanders as the crew sets out to unlock ram's memories, which doesn't really end up significantly changing ram, even. the beginning is too largely incidental to me so tink n the malto as concrete antagonists to outwit and overcome def helped that.

but also the ending feels just. messy. here is god to give us exposition. everything you did was useless. ram's pivot into ending the world suddenly, even if it's to draw out god(?), feels much too abrupt. yes he had the report about tludia and hinsher being somehow connected, and i did find it odd she could understand hadar without using sign language, but that foreshadowing really wasn't enough to even conceive what his plan was, especially since his talk with the fake mushia leaves out the dialogue where he actually gets her to agree. and then it also cuts out the final words tludia gives to ram before he jumps off the cliff.

to be fair tek ALSO does this a lot but it p much is always dialogue that would've been boring and is brought up only when relevant, with the general sense of "i guess they could've talked about this at that point." (main way tek blows it is with jiroon, imo - like, put the scene with nagyunn encouraging her before her death, maybe? so we're not just invested in her in-post? flashbacks work with tink because he already had plenty of build up before dying, and additional context just expands on what we already knew about him. i digress.)

and then the malto mooks who attack tludia and co are literally unnamed and faceless. it would've already been better if pavrin was the one to betray mushia. it was. just some fucking guy! okay!

tldr abt the ending: i dont really get it ¯⁠\⁠_⁠(⁠ツ⁠)⁠_⁠/⁠¯ the midpoint of the comic feels best to me writing wise. overall i enjoyed it though, even if i still like tek more.

dang, now i should totally reread tek for a fourth time, just so i can pick up on every detail gilgamesh expands on or recontextualizes.

like some of these r just for fun (like why daljan is so important to kandentia, since both of them are rather minor characters in tek), and others r kinda bonkers (the dragon has lost some of his mystique now that nephren exists to me)

You just proved my point (btw I am not saying this to be pissy and I dont have problems with people's headcanons but i do have a problem with them if they are portrayed as if they are canon by people, especially if it involves potentially harmful stuff like talking about OCD or ED, so let's go.)

Mike only appears 1 time in Max's memory, that is the same as Will. Both Mike and Will appear only 1-2 times in Max's memory montage. That shows us that while they're friends, they are not besties and they're not that close in contrast to what people make it out to be.

Max has the loosest connection to Mike and Will, that's why they don't appear that much in her vision/memory montage that much. That is also why Mike and Will play virtually no role in Max's struggle throughout S4. That is intentional writing choice (aside from other reasons, ofc). They are worried for her and are saddened by her 'death' at the hospital but they spend no time with Max in S4, that is a narrative choice.

It is Lucas, El and Dustin who are there for her the most. Because Lucas is Max's love and El is Max's best friend. Dustin is the second closest friend Max has.

Both Lucas and El appear the most in her memory montages, expected so, since they're the closes two people to Max.

Then it follows Dustin, he appears quite a couple of times. That shows that Dustin is the closest to Max after El and Lucas.

Then Mike and Will appear 1-2 times. That shows us, that yeah, Mike and Will are also Max's friends but they are not that that close to Max. It is simple really. The whole text and the memory montages shows us this.

When I pointed this out and wrote it, my intention wasnt to diss Mike's character, I think that's what people thought my intention was. But no, I am just pointing out what the show tells us. I am saying the same thing about Will too, not because I'm trying to diss Will and Max's friendship. They all are friends, it's just Mike and Will arent that close to Max as people make out to be and that is normal and okay. Mike has the loosest connection to Max out of other party members just like El has the loosest connection to Dustin out of other party members. That's not to say Mike and Max dont care each other or El and Dustin dont care each other. They just arent besties.

i have Thoughts on nancy wheeler. and how she approaches relationships. 

because nancy needs love, everyone does, and she deserves to be loved, and her attachment to family, to friends, to lovers, always tends to be rocky

i think if we’re gonna get into this we gotta start with family. her parents dont really love each other, and there is no trust between them or real loyalty (and her mom was literally about to hook up with an actual high schooler which i’m not gonna get into rn bc thats not what this is about but Yikes)

 her dad is absent, he doesnt support any of his kids, only makes it appear so on the outside. at some point i think karen wheeler might have been closer to her children, nancy more than mike, and nancy has always strove(strived??? striven?????) to gain her mother’s approval and care (as she grows up, this becomes less important to her, as does her relationship with her mother as she realizes she really doesn’t get her and doesn’t care to). her family has never been close, theyve never talked much about feelings, everything is repressed, and everything is for show. their clothing choices, the curfew (because if it was a safety issue i feel like maybe just maybe karen and ted might care a little more or do a little more but they just dont seem to give a shit and the curfew they have/had set is really just to make it look like they do), how they invite people over to their home, etc, it’s all for show. 

and nancy sees display, and proximity, as what is important--with steve, with jonathan, yes, but not just with romantic interests. in season 4 when she gets closer to robin, robin is there and nancy starts to attach to her. steve is there and nancy starts to attach to him again. even eddie to a degree. but now that she and jonathan are so far away, they’re falling apart, even though when they’re together in person it looks like they’re really in love. it’s the proximity and the display that makes her feel more secure because that’s what’s normal for her. 

and nancy wants to protect people she cares about. she does. and she tries to. but it’s not just protecting people, not the same way steve would fight tooth and nail to protect everyone or the way joyce would someone out of a prison, for nancy, it’s about logic and control. she needs to have things under control--part of why she has so many guns. part of why shes so detailed in making plans. part of why she is a lot better at not letting emotion cloud her judgement (even when the issue might require more emotional thought than logical). 

and oh boy i am SOOO off topic arent i

nancy favors control over security. when shes far away from someone the relationship matters less--it’s clear with jonathan but not just with him, you can even see it with how she interacts with her brother. she hardly really even sees him and when they were around each other she did say “hey you should talk to me” but after that they continued to not be around each other and she didn’t try to change that, instead focusing on the people in front of her. 

nancy is a really powerful, intelligent, totally fuckin badass character. and like all the other characters in this show her relationships and attachment styles are influenced by trauma and by societal standards and her family and childhood. she’s beginning to learn different but it’s new to her. and what i think nancy needs is time out of a romantic relationship, with anyone, to learn about security and attachment and love even when you dont see someone and care and sometimes not having control in relationships and i want her to grow into herself and grow into her friends/chosen family without the pressure of conforming to what romance “is supposed to look like”

i dunno if this really made sense i kinda just rambled a lot but i hope at least some of my points got across ok! if u have any thoughts pls lmk id love to hear them :)

There isn't a lot of tea to spill here but basically before the show aired, the two mains were asked to talk about the show in an interview and one of the actors stopped to "clarify" that bl doesn't mean gay and that it's about two straight guys falling in love which is just a very uneducated statement to make and just perpetuates the idea that bl doesn't have to represent the community, it's just about shipper's fantasies. That obviously put off a lot of people from watching the show, me included. I haven't been this enthralled with an episode in a long time.

Are there one or two nitpicks? Absolutely.

Do I wish somethings were not mentioned? A little bit.

Am I glad Alya knows? Out of everyone, she is the second person I wanted Marinette to tell.

(The first one being chat noir, but lets face it, we kind of knew that won't be happening for a while.)

So can Alya salt stop now? Cause Alya CLEARLY showed how much of a motherf***ing boss she is.

Okay so i’ve been seein some ppl say that Spinel and the Diamonds were ignoring Steven’s problems and not giving helpful advice and ngl….i dont agree?? I mean, i kinda get it but tbh i think they did the best they could at addressing Steven’s core issues w/o havin the needed context since it's clear that he hasn't spoken to them since Spinel left so how were they to know how he’s been?

Tbh i think what they had to say wasn't what Steven wanted to hear because it wasn't an easy answer but needed to. I mean for one:

Yellow, without as many words, showed Steven that despite her past cruel actions she is trying to fix it by dedicating time towards those she's wronged. Showing that even the most unforgivable actions can be amended for with effort and dedication, so much so that now, her powers once destructive and anger-driven now have reversed into the ability to heal forms and alter them on command. 

Yellow not only is working to be better, but she has control over her form and that of others. Lol sounds like something Steven could use, huh? 

After all the damage I’ve done, it’s only right to use my powers for a little reconstructive work on the gems I’ve hurt.

Then BLUE, my floaty weed cloud queen had her own hard-hitting advice for Steven. While I can admit the drug clouds are definitely not a solution for Steven’s problems, how Blue arrived there was

Her powers once used to isolate herself and emotionally hurt those around her, were reversed by spending time thinking about her actions and how to hold herself accountable-“i realized i had to make up for my awful behavior!” 

she was able to evaporate her tears into happy clouds and instead focus her energy on the love and positivity in her life like dudes wtf

Then finally! Queen bee White!!!! The wildest Tyrant to ever grace the galaxy has traded in her T-pose for meditation and a $20 Wal-mart yoga mat and it's great!!

If anything, I thought White was one of the most helpful (not only almost dying trying to help Steven, lol) but for how she showed him her power had reversed. She had learned to stop being so controlling and to trust others to the point where she regularly lets those she once enslaved puppet her around for kicks/activism.

In a deeper sense, White who once thought of everyone as “lesser life forms” is now every day allowing those same lifeforms to guide her around to have new experiences and see new perspectives. To show and teach White different ways of being and give a fair voice to all those she interacts with

And she tries to help Steven with that new power, they all do. But in the end, despite being pretty good advice and a blatant show that even unchecked diamond powers can be controlled and used for good with a support system and open communication, Steven rejects it-

He rejects it all because he was recently traumatized. Killed a gem in the last episode, remember? On Top of his already festering trauma from before! That they were all complicit in! Yikes!

none of it, the advice, the song, the perspective was the easy “Oh Why Yes Steven! We as diamonds always go through this rough patch. Here’s ‘X’ to fix it immediately!” that he was clearly hoping for, but instead were all the things he just ran away from.

A support system, blatant concern for his well being, requests for open honesty, and most importantly-

Attempts to get at the root of the problem. Something Steven himself is just not ready for.  

Which really comes to head when he grabs Spinel, desperate for someone who was once so angry and vengeful and violent to show him the way. And what does she do?

She parrots back his own advice.

Which why? Because it stuck with her. It helped her. It made her see a different perspective and gave her what she needed to move forward. It made Steven furious to hear and he ran from her, thinking she also couldn't help, but Spinel really did confront him with what Steven needs to realize.

He can make a change.

But he has to choose too. He has to ask for help and accept it. He has to be honest, he has to confront his problems if he wants to move forward. He can make it right but to do so, ...he needs to be willing to change.

kara and mon-el were together for two seconds in s2. in s3 he shows back up with a whole wife. he and kara dont even kiss, and he goes back to the future by the end of s3. he doesn’t show back up on the show until a cameo for the 100th in s5 (and now another for the series finale in s6.)

kara and lena on the other hand have had 5 seasons of building a “friendship.” They have fought by each other’s side in every season since Lena showed up in 2x01, building trust, supporting each other, and working together, as a Super and a Luthor, subverting one of the most well known hero/villain rivalries in comic book history.

So if the writers, showrunners, or anyone thinks that Kara should end up with mon, it has nothing to do with the story they have told over 5 seasons and has everything to do with the real life relationship between Mel and Chris. Which would be big yikes.

It’s supercorp or no one for Kara, and the problem I have with a single Kara in the end is the fact that Kara has shown she has a huge capacity for love, and she wants a partner. And they have written that with Lena consistently since the beginning, and even dedicated the 100th episode to supercorp’s history as Kara’s touchstone across the seasons. So to leave Kara single would mean Kara can

have it all, just not love if that means having a relationship with a woman.

Call me a clown but.. supercorp has to be endgame.

something that frustrates me with katara is it feels like her character wasn’t super focused on when zuko first joined the gaang so all we got was her anger until the southern raiders. like yes her anger here makes absolute sense because of everything she’s been through and she’s getting more and more isolated because everyone else is warming up to zuko, but i feel like all we really get to see is those moments of her making icy comments and all that. i totally get that the show doesn’t have as much time to elaborate on that, but i imagine that’s also part of why a lot of people hate so much on katara. at this point, zuko’s actively working to be better while katara ends up a little stuck and indulges her anger for a bit. and that’s fair! she’s 14! everything sorta sucks! i was an absolute nightmare at 14!

it’s interesting when fanfictions expand on her struggling with this dilemma (because yeah… aang Does need to learn firebending but zuko very much hurt katara and the others) and then working towards a point where she can start healing. that part of the show always felt a little rushed to me which sucks bc it’s my favorite (i just really like seeing them get to a point where they’re all friends y’know)

but overall yes it’s absolutely because people tend to hate 14 year old girls no matter what they do which is just… yikes. sorry for the ramble! my roommate and i just finished rewatching atla yesterday so uwu

anyways i can understand this. i think her anger n the way its portrayed is sufficient for Me because i dont really need any further elaboration imo. katara felt used and betrayed by zuko and the direct result of that was aang dying, i dont think she personally needs to struggle with that any more than depicted. she says all this in a lot of scenes and she trusts aang's decision to accept him, but not zuko himself, i think its pretty clear. i actually think the southern raiders addresses it perfectly tho despite the breakneck pace of the last half of s3—i think at that point in the series a lot of katara's anger (post-firebending masters and boiling rock), not just lingering distrust, is focused on the fact that zuko is fire nation. she struggles separating him, the individual, from his colonizing imperialist country, the collective. part of her healing is learning the value of forgiveness... yon ra (is that his name??) is just a pathetic loser and shes better than him and she knows it, so she's ready to forgive zuko as a person after she sees that for herself. she utilizes that kindness and strength on someone who she can see deserves it now. so i dont super see the pace as a reason to Hate-Hate katara to the level some of the fandom do, but i can understand why people would think its rushed considering the amount of time other arcs are given.
